(00:28):
Hello and welcome Bright Suns rising Moons to wherever you are
in the world. My name is Rachel.
I'm Jen. So Jen, I I heard you had a hard
time getting onto the podcast recording today, so I need to
know what happened. Yeah, I can't even begin to
describe the shit show that is my wife at the moment, but
(00:51):
Rachel knows this. My phone wasn't working like
over the weekend I had like 2 days where it was just straight
up off. And the reason being there's
something wrong with my chargingport and it's it's like saying
there's debris in there. It's not.
There's something like physically wrong with the
charging port. I'm a cheap ass bitch and don't
have a wireless charger, so I just couldn't charge my phone.
(01:15):
And so when you were like, I can't record tonight, I was
like, well, thank God because the only way I'm communicating
with people is if I'm at home. And thank goodness I have a
drawing iPad that can connect toWi-Fi.
But I was like, if, if my mom's texting me, she's just going to
assume I'm dead because just like silence on my end.
(01:35):
No. So this has a point.
But my phone is, you know how I generally record the podcast and
I worked it out and I like went and got a cheap wireless charger
and it works fine. And I was like, I am so put
together. I am just so ready for art
recording. And then I forgot about the fact
that my microphone plugs into myphone into the port that's not.
(02:01):
Working. So I plugged it in with all the
enthusiasm in the world, Rachel and then no light came on and I,
I honestly got stared at it withthe dead eyed look you've ever
seen. And it was like, you got to be
shitting me. And this was that, you know, 5
minutes to go. And I was like, OK, that's fine,
I'll test out the iPad. I didn't want to test it out
(02:23):
last minute. That's why I haven't really done
it. But I was like, that's OK,
that's fine. So I was like, OK, I'm going to
go download the Riverside app, Rachel.
It legitimately, I've never seenan app take so long to download
before. And I sat there and the blue bar
was going so slow as I just watched the time get further and
(02:44):
further away. And I was like, I don't know
what to do. And then I got mad and just
logged onto the website and I was like, it's fine, I'll do it
on the website. And every time a little pop up
would be like, do you want to use the app?
And I was like, no thanks. And then when you hit record,
it's like, surprise bitch, you can only record on iPad if you
have the app. And I was like, are you kidding
(03:09):
me? And I have no method of holding
my iPad in place. So I will take a beautiful
picture for you of the absolutely abominable setup that
I have going on right now to keep this in place.
So for the listeners, I guess ifyou hear a random crashing noise
at some point during this, it's because I've accidentally taken
(03:31):
my hand off of the books that are keeping my iPad in place
right now. The bottom of my bookshelf is
just a disaster because I've been blindly reaching behind me
and just grabbing books and I just, you know, it's perfect.
I actually had chosen this cup before all of this happened.
It's my Mustafar cup for the listeners.
And you know what? That's how I feel right now and
(03:52):
just a hot crash fire of feelings.
So that's that's me getting ready for the podcast and I'm so
sorry. I'm a billion for Slade.
I know the listeners don't know, but you know, you know.
All 15 minutes late. Oh no.
Oh my God, I was just like, I just need something to feel put
together and I it's not happening.
(04:13):
No, I'm so sorry. I can't believe your phone is
being so annoying and then also I can't believe it took 17
minutes to download on your never.
Had take as long as this tech what never and I know that it's
a big apps, so that's my bad. You know, I just didn't think it
was going to take that long. And it was, Yeah.
The whole thing was just like one thing after another.
(04:36):
And now we're here. And I felt like that was such a
good introduction to who I am asa person.
And I mean, everyone knows you're Rachel now, but who are
we together? Together, collectively, we are
the bitches of death. Amir.
We are a print media podcast andwe are currently go going over
at the High Republic, but more specifically we're going over
(04:57):
the mainline comic by Kevin Scott, issues 9 and 10.
Yeah. I am so excited about this.
We have been looking forward to telling these stories for a
while now because we took a little pause between, so being
able to talk about the last episode, we talked about 6
through 8. I think about that, right?
(05:18):
And then today we're talking 9 and 10, kind of rounding out
that story that we took such a long break between the first
couple of issues and I'm, I'm soexcited to see where it's going.
It's so good, it's so good. It's so, so good.
I cannot wait to talk about it. But we can, kind of, because we
always do a Star Wars news segment first.
Well, that's right, Star Wars news.
(05:38):
I have a couple of comic things to talk about, yes, including I
read Han Solo The Hunt for the Falcon comic, and I really
enjoyed it. It's basically in a nutshell.
Ahan is going through a middle life crisis.
So pictures you sent me just like sent me into a crash out.
(05:59):
Yeah, it's so funny. He's like Idol realizing the
glory of the good old smuggling days.
And of course, like, how else can he go about doing that while
he needs the Millennium Falcon? However, the Millennium Falcon
is missing, so he has to go and find it.
One of my favorite is that he reaches out to Lando and he's
like, hey, you can help me, right?
(06:19):
And Lando's like, Nah, those days are over for me.
Like good luck. Lando's like I'm still betting
on Leia coming to me, you know, at this point.
He does. He kind of even like, asked Han.
Like, hey, when's the last time you guys talked?
And Han has no idea what he's talking about.
I know I just love this concept of Han reliving what he calls
(06:43):
the good old days, which is codespeak for before I had my wife
and kids. So you know what, Han?
It just gave up middle finger tothe imaginary person.
I love you so much, but you're aterrible, terrible husband and a
terrible father. Love you though.
Better, yeah. So I'll be interested to see how
(07:05):
his character progresses. If it progresses, I hope it
progresses. So yeah, just issue 1 came out
and the other comic that I read was Tales from the Night Lens.
This one's by Kevin Scott as well.
This comic was fantastic. It's Obi Wan and Anakin go to
Ryloth and they encounter A mysterious like ghostly entity
(07:25):
called the Night Lander. And it's like the spooky thing
that wants to come back to, you know, the living realm.
And of course that means inhabiting somebody's body and a
very ghostly typical things. Yes, it's great.
And it was lots of fun. I love it.
I love the art for it. The art was so beautiful.
(07:46):
Love I cannot wait to read that.I'm just excited for Star Wars
horror cuz we need more of it inour lives.
Absolutely, and then the only other one that I have after that
is the new Mandalorian and Grogutrailer that dropped today.
I, I was out late last night, soI slept in today.
(08:07):
I have this day off. It's not a normal work day off
for most people. And so I was like groggily
opening up my phone and looked at all of the messages about
this trailer and I was just like, wow, what?
And it was like maybe 2 hours prior and I was like Oh my God.
And it just like exploded. Every.
Yeah, it really did, but looks amazing.
(08:29):
What I especially love about Star Wars trailers is that they
don't tell you anything about the story.
It's literally like pretty things.
And yeah, like ATATS on a mountainside and Grogu swimming
through water and. But like, other other than that,
I could not tell you at all whatthe plot is other than they go
(08:53):
on adventures. What did you think?
I've really liked it. I was excited for it.
It came at a really weird time in the world.
So I was kind of laughing like the joke now is that Disney was
trying to do a like force thing where they were like, you saw
nothing about our down to fascism.
Look at this shiny mandolin burger trailer.
(09:15):
And you know why it's seemingly things are starting to turn
around and work out. We'll see.
They better work it out before this movie comes out because I
really want to go see it in theaters and they need to stop
with the fucking around. So hopefully they worked that
out because it looked super great and it made me really
excited and it took me back to Star Wars Celebration Japan.
Yeah, definitely. Yeah.
(09:36):
So good. So that was great.
Any more news on your end? That is it for me.
Well, that leaves me with one thing which is for the best
because we know how I can go offon the Star Wars news for 20
minutes. This is perfect for you.
And IA new coral species was discovered in the tropical
Pacific. It's deep sea, super hairy
(09:58):
looking and so they named it their scientific name or its
scientific name is Eridogorgia Chewbacca, the Chewbacca coral.
So I am. I'm obsessed with it.
So good. Go look it up.
You don't have to remember the scientific name.
Just put Chewbacca coral and it will, it will pop up and you can
(10:18):
see what it looks like. It's so cool.
It's so perfectly named. Love, love, love.
That is so cool. Yeah, I love that.
Is it brown too or is it just like?
No, I mean, you know how the deep sea is so like everything
it's going to be 1 of like 2 colors and it's whitish looking.
Or at least in the photos it looked whitish looking.
Yeah, yeah. It's a good one, yeah.
(10:41):
Well, I think with that, we're going to, we're going to get
into it. We're doing it.
What? What are we talking about?
What issue are we going through? So this is issue #9 And this is
called Chapter 5 Death on ShinkuStation.
And I was like, I already don't like that, not at all.
(11:02):
I did not look at the artist. Are they different for this?
Issue Yeah, the artist is Laura Braga and the colorist is Jim
Campbell. Well, fantastic job because this
is such a wonderfully drawn issue, but we have a nice little
new scroll to talk about. You want to go for this one and
I'll do the next one. Yeah, that's fine.
(11:23):
Yeah, OK. To save a child strong in the
Force, Jedi Master Keeve Trenis and her team have staged A
daring rescue. Breaking into Baron Boulin's
secret base, Lorna Dee, Tay Saric and troubled Trandosha and
Master Skier came face to face with the Baron, Sinister
Children of the Storm. Lorna got away, escaping with
(11:46):
the child, only to be brought down by the Baron.
Surgically augmented Nameless, the former Tempest runner's life
was saved by Keep the Jedi facing her fear by decapitating
the Eater of the Forest. But with time running out for
Tay and Skier, Lorna has delivered another bombshell.
She has set explosive devices throughout the station.
(12:08):
Baron Boulin is going down, but Tay and Skier will go down with
them. What a scroll.
I know. They've done such good jobs on
those for these issues, like it's just a perfect summary of
everything that's happened. So we deeply appreciate.
It absolutely. Yeah, things aren't going great.
(12:29):
Keith is like, you know what, Lorna?
I'm going to go save Skier and Tay, you take the child, the
Yukon child, back to the Ataraxia.
Naturally, in true Jedi style, Tarek and Sarah show up because
they completely ignore keeps command to stay on the ship
because that's what Jedi do. And I like that.
Lorna, they take off. Lorna tries to take the kid to
(12:50):
the Atarax and she runs into ourfavorite gooey flutter friend or
Belan who immediately guilt trips her into not being he
does. He's like, why are you going
back to Ataraxia again? The last time you did this,
you're fleeing Starlight Beacon.Like we know how that ended.
It's like, it's so good. And I feel like Lorna's got her
(13:10):
pride, you know what I mean? So I feel like he knew exactly
what to say to like force her todo the right way.
Well it's really not her fault, right?
Keith told Lorna to take the child to the anorexia.
So I mean, Lorna could play the oh I'm just following orders and
protecting the Yokom child. But she doesn't.
(13:31):
So Lorna decides that today she's going to save the day this
time. Love it.
Lorna. Meanwhile, Reek has captured Tay
and Skier, and when he offers them up to Bulin, Bulin is
pissed. He's like, I don't want these
two. Bulin calls them dried out
geriatrics with little connection to the force.
Like, Ouch. I was so offended on their
(13:52):
behalf. I was like, how dare you?
Yeah, and then of course, like Boulin takes the hand of Cyberis
and puts it on and then uses it to electrocute tape, which
pisses Skier off. And he's somehow able he's
somehow able to get out of his binds.
And then at that point he runs into the room and force pushes
(14:15):
her CAC and hit tar back of these names are just ridiculous.
I know. Atar creates this illusion of
Kiev as this little girl and she's terrified and really tries
to make Kiev scared and feel vulnerable and luckily Scoot
comes to the rescue and zaps Atar and they'll lose and
(14:37):
shatters. Thank goodness for Scoot.
I know totally. This is so interesting because
at this point they're all like, you know, ready to go.
And Skier tells Baron these experiments are a violation of
the Force. And Baron, of course, is like, I
think the Jedi or a violation ofthe Force.
(14:57):
So take that. And he tries to shock Skier with
the glove. But Skier has a like, I am no
Jedi moment that I super loved because he gets a hold of the
glove. And I was like, oh, it's over.
It's over for Baron Bulan now. But I mean, everyone's worried
about this, right? Because Skier's mind is already
not doing well, and the glove does not help with that.
(15:18):
So she tries to tell him like no, don't give in to the rage,
and he shoves her to the ground.Yeah, I can't believe Skier
shoved Keeve down. That was awful.
Also does Baron have like a humiliation kink?
Because I feel like he saw this and was like, actually, so
Skier, do you want to like go with me?
(15:42):
A humiliation kink but also understanding for weaknesses and
is very manipulative. He's learned a lot from mother
Alicia. Yes, he has.
And yeah, this ends up with kindof a shocker because I thought
Skier was going to be like fuck off, But that's not what
happened. Skier actually kind of is
(16:05):
thinking about it right. Yeah.
Like he takes a minute and I waslike, what are you thinking
about? And Keeve is just looking on
like what's going to happen. And I did not like this feeling
I was left with at the end of this little bit.
No, because Bulan is able to pinpoint is especially what
skiers going through and understands that Skier no longer
has this connection to the forceand how he wants it back and
(16:27):
how. And Bulan explains to Skier that
he's the only one that can help him reconnect the force again.
And skiers in a position of vulnerability because he's got
this hand of Sybaris on him and like that, like darkness that's
overpowering his mind. So he's really especially not
thinking clearly here. I know it made me so nervous.
(16:48):
Obviously we don't get in the media answer to what's happening
as we move on to the next story, right?
Yeah, Orblin is coming over to Sarah and Tarek.
How they must return to the Ataraxia, but both of them are
like, no, no, we're almost done disarming explosives,
everything's going to be fine. Of course, the calm is cut short
and we see Reek and his Namelessstanding over Tarek and Sarat,
(17:09):
and both of them are cowering infear.
Also, what's behind? Reek.
What is behind Reek? A fucking decapitated nameless.
Oh yes. The one that he's decapitated
and it's not in a pile dead. It's like standing up behind
(17:31):
them alive. Apparently namelesses don't need
heads to survive. Well, like Reek said, something
about masters doing great, whatever.
So Barry's done something to make this thing be able to exist
without a head. This is not good, Rachel,
because prior to this they were able to do some decapitation and
hope for the best and it would stay down and now it's not.
(17:54):
No. So this is not good.
They can just exist without a damn head.
Yeah, the the zombie nameless are here.
It looks horrifying. It looks straight out of
Stranger Things. Oh yeah. 100% just like a This
is just gross. Yeah, it's just like a vortex
where his head should be. It's so gross, but I kind of
(18:15):
loved. It Yeah, I did write that note.
The decapitated Nameless is still running around, and Tarek
tries to fight through the effects of the Nameless because
they know that they didn't finish disarming the explosives.
Harry goes. What do you mean explosives?
What? What were you talking about
Right before one goes off in thevery room that they're in?
(18:35):
Naturally. Of course I love the the visual
of Rick and the Nameless going flying.
It was so good. So funny.
You get such a clear picture of the decapitated one just flying
through the air and it made me laugh.
It's so good, so good. Yeah, of course, more of the
station comes collapsing down and poor Qatar is going through
(18:57):
the rubble and finds Urkac has died.
He's like our friend is gone. As Baron Boo is like, I don't
care. Baron Boo is like, Get Me Out of
this. Yeah.
With you. Yeah.
So Baron Boulin calls all of theSri Karai to him so that they
(19:20):
could all escape to the shuttle, which is named the Dalnan.
Don loves that. Name.
I loved that so much. I also loved that his little
call to the Nameless was like a button on the side of his
headpiece. It's very much like Sicaris.
Sicaris didn't have it on his head, but he had like a little
(19:40):
remote control. Right.
Yeah, so cool. I like, I love this character in
terms of like he does cool stuff.
It's just all evil. Oh totally, and I'm really
curious about the mechanism on how that clicker control button
works for the yes. Yeah, we go back to the
situation where Baron is about to evacuate, right?
(20:02):
So naturally he's like, Skier, you coming, buddy?
And much to everyone elses surprise, including me while I
was reading it and Keeves absolute sadness, skier runs
after Baron Bulan. I was so shocked by this.
What is scary? Too.
I was like, I know the hand and all that, like I get it.
(20:22):
I'm just sad. I'm so sad just especially
because all the work that Keith did to get to this point and to
find Skier and rescue him and gothrough all of the measures and
only for Skier to take this opportunity and say no thank
you. I'm.
And peace after. Bullet instead, and I guess
(20:42):
they're friends now. OK, whatever.
Weirdest bromance ever, I know. Yeah.
We move over to Orblin and Lornaas they're walking aboard the
Ataraxia just as the Nile station explodes again, and
Lorna looks at the explosion andgoes, oh, I guess the twins
didn't make it. She's just.
So casual, yeah. So.
(21:04):
Lorna Girl. Laughs so hard at that.
What am I reading? I have my notes.
Orblin reassures Lorna that he'sgot it covered.
Got what covered? I think he means like the
station not exploding because hehas repaired Q4 and Q4 is
(21:25):
holding the station together. Oh, that's right, right.
Yes, I totally forgot about that.
I'm like, what? What's being covered?
Oh yes. But you can't cover anything.
You're made of goo. I know exactly Orblin is somehow
able to keep the station together because the station is
within the Ataraxius tractor beams.
(21:47):
Does that work like that? That's the exact thought I had
when I read it and I was thinking, you know what it does
now? OK, OK.
I love it. Yeah, yeah, of course, though.
Like as they're like trying to hold this station together, they
notice a Nile ship flying away from the station.
And they're all like, of course this is Baron Bull and he's
getting away. And Lorna goes and rushes after
(22:10):
them. And I love that she the whole
time she's just complaining about how they're doing the
right thing and how it takes so much work and effort and how
does anybody get anything done around here?
I mean, OK, hear me out. I kind of like sometimes I've
complained about this before. The Jedi sometimes just takes so
long to get shit done because they're going round and round
(22:33):
and round in moral circles. And so sometimes it does help to
have a completely immoral person.
And this person just happens to be Lorna, who is like, you know
what, I'm going to get shit donewhile you guys are doing
whatever you're doing you. Know.
Yeah. Meanwhile, Sarah is waking up
(22:53):
after being knocked unconscious from the explosion, and they
quickly realized that they can'tsense Tarek.
I felt like the worst pain in mychest reading this.
I did. Too, I was like, no Tarek.
And especially because they look, they turn to their side
and they see that there's this giant hole in the station.
(23:14):
So I was like, Oh my God, Tarek was like fell down.
This is it. They're gone.
Oh yeah. Like it was my assumption,
right? It's like as soon as they can't
feel each other, like one of them is gone.
That's the kind of bond they have.
They know when the other person's alive or not.
It's so sad. It's so sad.
(23:35):
Yeah. Sarah calms and Keeve to let her
know that Tarek is gone, so she tells them to head to the
Ataraxia. So then Keeve updates Orbolin
that they're all heading back tothe Ataraxia, but skiers not
coming with them because he's gone with Bolin.
And then in chimes this voice onthe comms saying that Keith
(23:57):
gives up too easily and it's Lorna D on none other than a
Jedi Vector. Lorna.
What is she doing on a Jedi Vector?
There's no way she can pilot that.
I know it's one of those where I'm like, we all know this, but
Lorna obviously did not when shemade this decision.
But yeah. Vectors have to have a light
(24:19):
Saber for them to work right? Yeah, and on top of that, you
need to have some kind of force sense to like, bond with the
ship, right, So that it actuallyworks for you.
Lorna has -500 force abilities. And definitely no lightsabers at
the moment, nor the knowledge that she needs one in order to
(24:39):
work this thing. Lorna's like, how do I use the
cannon fires? And they're like, you need a
lightsaber? She's like gosh Dang it.
It is, yeah. Lorna then crashes the poor Jedi
Vector straight into the Nile ship, just as this Nile ship
goes into lightspeed. Yep, and Keith tried like I
(25:03):
loved that Keith didn't just go like bye, you know, keep trying
to tell her to eject right before she crashed into the ship
and Lorna, we get this like panel of Lorna realizing it is
too late for that me Thanks and yeah, boom.
And I was like, so we're just dropping our characters like
flies. I know they really said say
(25:25):
goodbye to. Everybody.
No one's making it through this comment.
I know. Thanks, Gavin.
Oh yeah, he calls for Lorna and gets no answer because Lorna is
in a bunch of pieces. All is not lost though, even
though they lost Tarek and Lornaand technically Skier, the
(25:49):
tracker that Lorna placed on theYacom girl originally starts
broadcasting on a Jedi frequency, and it's coming from
Boolean ship. Yeah, there's only so many
people who would have originallyhad access to that tracker to
get it off of the girl, and thenwho also made it on to Boo and
(26:11):
ship. So methinks maybe we were
doubting Skier a little. Too much?
Yeah. Was that your impression at the
end of this comic? Oh yeah, it's got to be skier,
right? I really at this point, I was
like, I really hope so because Ilove him and I don't want him to
be just like all the way in the dark.
Oh yeah, totally. I like that concept.
(26:33):
That Skier would have taken thisopportunity to try and find more
of Baron Boulin's layers or maybe head base.
So I don't know. I guess we'll see what happens
with Skier next. I know for someone who's like
out of his mind, if, if that's like what's happening, he's got
some great long term planning skills while he's fighting
(26:55):
through this. I'm like, I'm so proud of you.
Yeah. All right, well, with that, that
was the end of that issue. Loved it.
I thought it was great. This one has a much happier
sounding title, right? Yeah, it yes, I agree.
I didn't. Say dead anymore so as as long.
(27:16):
As the word dead isn't in there,I think we're doing OK.
This one is called Chapter 6, Jedi Lost and Found.
And I was like, OK, this could mean multiple things.
So we'll see what's we'll see what's going to happen.
I'm ready for your oh God. Reading of this disaster struck
(27:37):
when Keith Trinis and her crew encountered Baron Boulin in the
heart of the Occlusion zone. Tarek, one of the Katabi Bond
twins, was lost when Boulin Station went down, wrecked by
explosives set by former Nihil Lorna D But the biggest shock
came when Kiev's master, the troubled Tran Ocean Jedi skier,
chose to leave with the barren. Not even D could stop Boulin
(28:00):
from escaping, her stolen Jedi Vector crashing into the barren
ship before Boulin could make the leap to hyperspace.
But even as Keeve found herself mourning, worn as lost, a homing
signal was detected coming from Baron's fleeing Storm cruiser.
Is this why Skier went with Bulan?
So he could lead them to Baron'slair.
(28:23):
The artist is Jim Toe, colorist is Jim Campbell.
I know double gyms. Do we start off this comic issue
with the a panel of the Ataraxian hyperspace following
this homing signal? And what I want to know is, is
(28:44):
them following this homing signal the same thing as
hyperspace tracking? Girl we are on the same
wavelength. I'm so glad also thought that.
I was so confused like how is this working?
I love the thought because this does happen in history, right?
Sometimes where it's like major advancements get lost during
(29:06):
things like war, famine, disease, whatever.
And I'm wondering if that's whathappened here is like all the
things that happen after the High Republic information like
hyperspace tracking might have been lost.
OK, OK. And I was like, I don't know how
else we would explain that because this sounds like
hyperspace tracking. It does, but also sounds like,
(29:27):
at least with the sequels, that hyperspace tracking is
exceptionally difficult. This sounds like they just put a
homie beacon on a little girl and was like good luck no one
else has tried this before. That's what killed me.
I was like, is this just, like anormal thing?
And that's why it seems so easy.Like this is a very established
thing, whereas like, it's just alost art by the time we get to
(29:49):
the sequel. So the First order is like,
we're so advanced and smart. Yeah, and it turns out that
literally everyone did this in the.
Maybe these are special beacons that utilize the old ex droids
or something? I like that.
I like it. OK, OK.
But yeah, I love that. We both were like, wait a damn
(30:09):
minute. Like, this is bizarre.
He's like, they're in hyperspaceand they're literally like,
there's the signal up ahead. I laughed and I could hear like
Rosa's voice in my head being like what the fuck?
I know, totally. I love that.
Also Kiev is talking. She seems to be like rambling
(30:30):
about how she's so sure that thesignals coming from skier but no
one else is convinced. They're all like no skier has
left because he has chosen to join the dark side.
She cannot accept this. No, she can't.
So yeah, they drop out of hyperspace in an asteroid field.
(30:50):
What are the odds? Just put really in a freaking
asteroid field. It can't be Star Wars without an
asteroid field. Something being hidden.
You got to find it. Yeah, no sign of the ship.
They were hyperspace tracking, right?
And no way to like heat source detect a ship through the
asteroid field. What is?
(31:11):
What is with these asteroid fields?
It's like the ultimate like a stupid rock, no offense she
owed, can just like completely overtake any technology in Star
Wars. I know there's just too many
rocks in space. Well Keith tells Q4 to take over
piloting and she tells Orbolin and Sarah to come with her and
(31:32):
they get on a vector and Keith is like insisting she can feel
skier even though his connectionto the force is almost non
existent. And I think everybody else in
the vector is like, sure Jan, I know.
Do you think that she still has a connection to him even though
he's no longer connected to the Force I?
(31:58):
This is very philosophical. I just don't.
Can you really 100%? Like not a single little atom of
you left is connected to the force?
Like, I don't know if I believe that's even possible.
I know we have instances of people cutting themselves off
from the force, whatever, but like there still has to be a
string there between you and theforce, right?
(32:18):
Because all these people that have done this come back to it
at some point. And if the string was cut, you
wouldn't be able to do that. So like I feel like cutting off
the force or being cut off from the force, whatever, it doesn't
work like 100%. Like I don't think that's what
it's doing. So I'm wondering if she's just
got like the final little stringof skier is attached to the
(32:39):
force is attached to her. Yeah, I think that speaks a lot
about the master apprentice bondto and how that even though
Skier is cut off from the force because of his sickness, that
she can still connect to him. Yeah.
Too So I agree with Keeve, she can sense gear.
(33:03):
I love her like never give up attitude.
She reminds me of Ray. I feel like in that way, who's
very like, no, we're. It's so good.
And this made me laugh because again, nobody else understands
what's going on. But naturally, she just drives
into a hole in the asteroid, random hole.
(33:24):
And I was like, this is going tobe so embarrassing if there's
nothing in there. Luckily, a hidden facility
appears, so she's right. She was right, yeah.
And even more strangely, they suddenly get access codes to
enter the facility. Like it's so crazy.
Wow. A mysterious benefactor, I think
(33:46):
it's helping put it. I like that someone, I think
it's Tay is like, Are you sure it's not a trap?
Oh my God, yeah. I can't believe I completely
neglected to say that Tay is also on this ride.
I think I didn't mention that atall.
Don't worry, Tay is Tay is here.He was not left back on the
ship. I just forgot to say he was
here. Yeah, they they all exit out of
(34:07):
their shuttle. Kiev and Orblin are immediately
hit by the effects of the Nameless, so they know that
Bulan is somewhere nearby. Of course, the group decides to
split up. Kiev and Orblin head to find
Skier, while Tay and Sarat scoutout the facility to kind of see
what everyone is up to in this area.
Great idea. You know how I split up?
(34:31):
Of course, that's when Tay notices that the Yokom girl has
followed them. And it's so cute, like they
decide that she can't stay on the shuttle.
So Tay puts her on his shoulders.
And it's like, you're coming with me and it's going to
protect her. I can't.
It's really I don't. Something about that image was
just too cute for words. It's so cute.
(34:55):
Well, thankfully Sarah, Tae and the Yukon girl hear creepy
noises. That's not the thankfully part,
but they're at a corner and theyrun right into Lorna and Tarek.
Our two dead people are not dead.
Right, two out of three. Recovery right now is looking
pretty good. So that's impressive.
(35:16):
It's impressive for the High Republic.
I know. So yeah, I am kind of shook if
Tarek is in fact not dead, and neither is Lorna, and thank
goodness because I love both of them.
Mile poor Orbaland is not feeling great.
And Keev is like, that's OK because that means we're on the
right path. And I was like, girls, I don't
(35:38):
think you and I don't think you're using the word right path
correctly. I don't know, I mean.
She's not wrong. It means she's going in the
right direction, The right. Direction, but also the stupid
direction. I'm like I know we technically
need to save skier like I know that.
So now I feel like I sound like Lorna but it's the nameless like
(36:01):
I. Don't know.
I know. Honestly, it probably should
have been Tay. Just take.
Just take and Lorna by themselves.
Well, yeah, now that we have Lorna, now that we know that
Lorna's alive. Yeah, true.
What are two Jedi going to do against a who knows how many
nameless are in this room? Exactly, I was like this is so
(36:23):
dumb. I know.
They get to a room where they see Bulan shocking skier as he's
chained to a table. I'm telling you, there's some
weird dumb shit going on with Bulan.
I'm so, so sorry. With the the EBO.
I, you know, it all ties together.
(36:47):
There's nowhere better to buy. Weird chains and hot topics.
Keeve and Orbelin are not in a condition to fight.
So like, again, they've arrived and it's like, oh, we can't
really do anything. Orbelin acknowledges this.
Keeve does not. She's like, oh, I've got this.
And yeah, but Orblin has to, like, hold her back.
(37:10):
And they watch the rest of what's happening.
And there's this moment where Boulin stops and asks Skier if
he's ready to proceed. I was like, what does this mean?
Nope, Nope. Skier's like, yes.
And then. And then the Nameless jumps onto
Skier and wraps its tentacles around Skier's face and is about
to feed. Yeah, I peed a little.
(37:32):
Nope. Why would you?
Agree to this. I'm so confused.
Don't kink shrink. Do you like, are you suicidal?
This is some auto erotic asphyxiation shit.
OK, OK. She's getting darker and darker.
It really, it really is. Steve is not a fan though.
No, Keeve does not consent to being part of this.
(37:54):
And like, jumps into action eventhough she's not doing well
because the nameless and the nameless leaps onto her.
And I was like oh shit. And Skier breaks through his
chains to save her. What?
I know he couldn't do it for himself, but as soon as he saw
that he was in trouble, it's like he found this strength
(38:16):
inside of himself and I was like.
I know. Meanwhile, Bulin is not pleased.
His little session was interrupted.
It was, yeah. We get a really interesting
reunion between Sarah and Tarek.Sarah is so relieved to see
Tarek, but they're also confusedbecause they can no longer
(38:39):
longer sense their force bond. And Tarek explains that it's
because they were in so much pain and they wanted to spare
Sarah from all of that. So like you can see a Sarah kind
of go, OK, like I understand why, but there it seems like
they're also like mulling it over too.
Yeah, because it it becomes obvious kind of just by the way
(39:01):
Sarah is reacting that they didn't know that was a thing
that either of them knew how to do.
Oh yeah. And I like that.
They catch themselves and they say we and then they eventually
stop and they go. I was shocked that this
happened. Yeah, Oh goodness, that seems
like it's going to be a conversation for later.
Yeah, because you would also imagine that if Sarah and Tarek
(39:25):
reunited that their force bond would like remerge, but that
doesn't seem to be the case. Nope, this has been a long time
coming, but interesting moment to choose for this to kind of
come to fruition after they're being reunited from one
supposedly dying. It's it's interesting.
We get an explanation as to whathappens and how Tarek and Lorna
(39:47):
are alive. Apparently after the explosion
Tarek followed Bulin onto his ship and then eventually they
helped Lorna get onto the ship and how they both sent the homie
beacon for the Ataraxia to follow them.
Not Skier. Sorry, Keeve.
Sorry, but I mean in fairness, this is a good other
alternative. So it's true.
(40:09):
Lorna's doing something stupid out of VAT again.
Well, what's? Lorna doing so, there's
something or someone in this batand she's 100% trying to open
it. And I was like, Lorna, stop
doing this. But it was Tarek's idea.
(40:30):
It's true. I just wish she would use a
little more discretion about what's in the bat.
You know what I mean? More discretion, yeah.
Like, is this something that canattack us?
Is this something that's alive 'cause it's like, remember last
time how thought that thing was dead and then it wasn't?
What if she had gotten that one open?
(40:50):
That's fair, that's fair. Well, they'll, they say that
they're rescuing someone that yeah, some force sensitive
person who was being experimented on was left behind
in this large VAT and how both of them wanted to rescue, I
mean, Tarek was supposed to rescue this person.
Yes. I'm just so paranoid of Bouin's
(41:11):
experiments because it's like Sicarus is technically an
experiment. We see how that turned out, you
know what I mean? So I was expecting this thing to
pop up and just like try to killall of them.
Oh, totally. Well, we don't have a really
good track record of any nice experimentations, right?
There's HITAR, that's crazy, or CAC, also crazy.
Yep. And Skier is kind of like
(41:32):
joining their ranks. And also crazy.
Also in the middle of all of this, we have this moment where
Sarat kind of acknowledges that they're a little upset that
Tarek knows how to close the bond, and this results in Tarek
admitting they've wanted to do it for a while so they could
have their own space. Their own mind though, I feel
(41:53):
like that's so important. It is I it's like I get where
both of them are coming from, but at some point Sarah, it's
going to have to accept this. They can't force Tarek to
continue to share her mind with them.
Absolutely. And we've seen Sarah and Tarek
have this. Like many, many fights, they
(42:14):
very clearly think very differently now and I'm sure
that must be so exhausting to deal with this.
Like, almost like you're arguingwith yourself all the time.
All the time having someone elsein your head, Like, absolutely.
Not that's contrasting everything that you say.
Yep. Or just like not feeling like
you have any of your own autonomy.
(42:35):
It's like even if you agree, just like I just want it to be
my decision and like my thoughtsa new idea.
Totally. One wants blue milk, the other
wants green milk. At least they're not like
conjoined so they can each enjoythe milk that they want.
They just have to hear each other argue about it.
(42:58):
Yeah. So I guess we find out that the
thing in the VAT right is an experiment that was left behind
for some reason because Hattar took all the other experiments
and left. I'm like, why did they leave
this one behind? Well, we found out pretty
quickly because Lorna opens up the bat and it's dead.
(43:19):
I. Don't know why that was so
funny. I swear we're not like the most
morbid but like. It's really sad.
It's. Sad.
It's just the way that Lorna reacted to it because she like
was opening it up to like save this thing, right?
And I was like, Lorna cares and then they like plop out dead and
(43:42):
she's like, I don't care, whatever.
She definitely pretends to not care.
And then I also was the we don'tknow what species it is but
it'll look very similar to Lorna's ex-girlfriend.
I don't know if they're actually.
So to me, I felt like it hit a little bit too close to home.
Well, that makes sense. Yeah.
Yeah, I did not even catch that.I mean, we know Inside though
(44:06):
Lorna's a bit of a softy cuz theYukon girl comes running for her
and hugs her. It's so cute.
And Lorna embraces it. It's not like child hugging me,
you know. She like, really leans.
Into it. So cute.
Meanwhile, Keith goes to attack Bulin with her lightsaber, but
(44:28):
unfortunately Skier gets right in front of him.
Like gosh Dang it Skier, why areyou protecting this man?
Stop it. And Skier tells Kee that this
isn't the way and how she's not in her right mind.
Like you're 1 to talk. Right.
That's Rich coming from you. Yeah, Keev asked Skier why he's
protecting Bulin, and rather than letting Skier talk, Bulin
(44:51):
answers for him, which I hate. Yep, Bulin explains how the Jedi
are useless and only Bulin was able to help Skier reconnect to
the Force. I was like this guy, OK?
I know manipulation one O 1. Exactly.
Keeve then addresses Skier and asked if this is true and Skier
(45:12):
just shouts no a couple times and then admits to not feeling
anything. No.
Can you imagine about to be eaten by a nameless and not feel
anything? No, I really can't.
That's horrendous. Like his mind is obviously not
in a good place. And I like that Keeve tells
(45:36):
Skier that it's because Bullen is lying.
And as she's telling Skier this, she's also force choking Bullen
at the same time. And it's so great.
Like, yes, take Bullen down. But no, Bullen still has the
wherewithal to press his fancy nameless controlling button
that's on his head and the nameless come running and
(45:57):
pounces right onto Keeve. Yeah, I hate everything about
this. Like, Skier is still in his mind
enough to like, beg Bulin not tomake him choose between them.
But Bulin's like, you have to choose if you want to be a nigh
hill. And if you choose Kiev, you're
(46:17):
never going to know the force again.
And it's like, what a what a predicament for poor Skier to be
in. Oh my God, I know.
And like. Meanwhile they're having this
conversation. Keith is starting to turn to
dust. She's got flakes on the on her
face and she's crying out for Skier to help, but Skier ignores
(46:39):
her cries and just tells Bulin that he can do what he must.
I was. Like I was so upset.
What? Keith is just going to die.
Yeah, I was like, OK, so this ishow we're ending this.
Really. Thank God I was so like oh
anxious the entire time this washappening.
Yeah, and then Skier gets back onto the exam table, and Boulin
(47:04):
is about to reconnect Skier to his machinery.
But then Skier snatches Boulin'snameless, controlling headpiece
and puts it on his own head. Hey.
And kicks the shit out of. Here, Yeah, Bullet goes flying.
It's so good like. Skier is large, OK Bullet's not
(47:24):
small either, though. He's not, but I feel like Boulin
is like a twink and Skier is a bear, you know?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he puts the headpiece on
and tells the nameless to go after a new target.
Love it. Yeah, love, love, love.
OK Keev is so much better than both of us, though, because Keev
(47:46):
was like, that's not the right thing to do.
Like he just freaking let him have one thing.
I know the skier listens and he's able to guide the nameless
to run as far away from his friends as possible and they
take off headless, nameless and all.
Although I do want to see how this headless nameless is still
able to eat. Right.
(48:07):
Is it just the gross like hole opens up and starts sucking the
force out? Like when does it get its head
back if it eats the force enough?
Yeah, it's an. Interesting concept.
I hope we see this decapitated nameless again because I want
answers. Yeah.
But yeah, everything's fine and right now, right?
(48:30):
Because the whole gang reunites. But of course Skier is in this
really weird ish place still andit's just feeling unsure if he
can ever return to the Jedi Order, if he can ever even
return to Khorasan, right? But I like Keeve's point and she
(48:51):
says that they're going to welcome them back because they
have a prisoner that will turn the tide against Marky on Row.
Love it. I love, love, love.
This is why I like, I do try to be like, hey, if it's
overwhelming you can just read these novels or whatever, but
(49:11):
this is the kind of shit you miss if you don't read the
comics. This is a major moment in this.
Story. I agree.
And it's such great storytellingfrom the perspective of like,
what are these Jedi doing out inthe occlusion zone and how their
connection to the Force is like, impacted by the nameless?
And it's so fascinating. It is.
(49:32):
I love it. This is such a great set of
issues. Yeah, I did notice that when
Keeve got up after being like partially husked by the
Nameless, it looked like the husk pieces were falling off her
face, as if like maybe she was healing somehow.
Did you catch that? I did.
And I wondered, like, does it goin layers?
Like it only got to the top layer of her skin, so then it
(49:55):
just flaked off? Or is she actually, like,
purposely doing that? Yeah, I thought that was cool.
I was like, OK. I have so many questions.
Maybe they just didn't want to draw her with holes in her face
from you. Oh no, it's.
So dark. Yeah, my favorite thing was the
(50:17):
little note at the end that saysto be continued in The Tempest
breaker. Yay.
I'm so excited to go back with this gang in the future.
That will not be our next episode unfortunately, but.
It should be our next, next episode, right?
Because yes, we're going into Seeds of right.
(50:39):
Am I doing that right, Storm? Seeds of the Storm Nigh Hill.
We're talking about an audio book.
What is the audio book? Let me look this up.
I know I can never remember either, there's so many names
and they're all like semi similar.
Yeah, it's Seeds of Starlight, but totally.
Yeah, I doubted myself. But yeah, that's going to be our
(51:01):
next episode. We're going to get into that.
I'm really excited to see where that story goes.
That's probably going to be an entirely different gang than
this one. So we'll take a break from all
of these lovely people and hopefully get back to them
sometime soon. But for now, we're really
excited to continue the story onin phase three.
