On this episode of Black Geek Energy, we’re joined by the one and only Tyler Hampton, aka Kerobits—cosplayer, educator, dancer, and unapologetic Black geek. From the cosplay floor to the classroom, Tyler has been doing it all, and today she’s bringing that same energy to the mic.

We dive into everything from her HBCU roots and experience as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Tau Beta Sigma, to her cosplay journey post-Ebony Fire and her viral majorette-style anime dance workshop. We talk convention culture, Black cosplay representation, anime favorites, pop culture hot takes, and even throw her into some classic BGE games—including trivia, character recognition, and rapid-fire questions.

If you love My Hero Academia, Sonic the Hedgehog, cosplay controversies, and everything Black and nerdy, this episode is for you. Tune in to hear how Tyler’s turning wigs, flipping critiques, and bringing that con-floor heat—one Pop Step accessory at a time.

(00:06):
All right guys, today on Black Geek Energy we are joined by a
true force in the cosplay scene and beyond.
She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority

(00:27):
Incorporated and Top Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority
Incorporated. She brought the heat as a dancer
for Ebony Fire, and she wraps her alma mater, Hampton

(00:48):
University, with pride, as you see by her hoodie.
When whether she's serving lookson the con floor or bringing
Black girl magic to the nerve first, she's doing it with
grace, power, and of course, precision.
I want everybody to welcome Tyler Hampton, AKA Carol Bits to

(01:11):
the show. Yay that.
Was such an awesome intro my goodness.
OK, Tyler, we usually start out by saying how has your week
been? But I want to do something
special with you because you know, Tyler, we go back, we go

(01:33):
way in the beginning of your college career.
That is crazy, yes. So I want to know, how has life
been since she graduated Hanson?Man, life, life is lifing.

(01:53):
Like adulting is crazy, you know, like just work, paying
bills. It is so different, a whole
different ballpark out here. But I would say it's treating me
fairly well. Thank God you know.
In the meantime, you know the ebbs and flows of adulting.

(02:17):
That's true. That's true.
So Tyler, you know me on a different level than DeMarcus,
who was also in the band he played.
What'd you play? Trombone at Hampson.
So. But you know me.
Oh, look at my shirt. I know I thought I was like.

(02:40):
OK, you know me kind of differently then he does, but I
just want to know what were yourfirst impressions of me being
around Ebony Fire 2 year final impressions of me being around
everything? Oh my God.

(03:02):
What year did y'all meet give us?
A time for me, it was like 2019.I was there for band camp and
Jared wasn't there yet, but the older girls kept telling us
about Jared and I'm like, who isJared?
And then one day we see this guyyou had like you had one of your

(03:28):
Cape outfits. I was just going to say he had a
Cape on, I guarantee it, Yes. And then when we when the girls
were like that's Jared, I was like, oh, that's Jared.
OK. At first, honestly, I feel like
OK, I feel like I was like annoyed with Jared because Jared

(03:49):
was very like he always gave us like critiques.
But like in the long run, it wasactually really helpful because
I feel like what Jared like I don't want to say sometimes
Jared was nitpicky because like Jared saw potential in us so he
wanted us to be the best. SO it was good to like hear his

(04:12):
comments and not get to like butt hurt about it because a lot
of people say 1,000,000 and worse things.
So I feel like Jared was like a good prep for how people.
Are quick to. Criticize.
Yeah. And so, Oh, my, yes, like, I
feel like nowadays, like, when Isee stuff wrong on social media

(04:32):
or like things towards me, I'm like, oh, this really does not
matter because like, Jared taught me how to just kind of
like, whatever, It's whatever, I'm going to keep doing my thing
and I'm going to keep improving. It doesn't matter what anyone
else says. So I feel like in the beginning
it was rough, but like, towards the end, I was like, I
appreciated the lesson. I didn't realize at the time

(04:53):
that Jared was giving. So yeah.
I was just trying to be plenty for real but OK.
Sure. But I'm tired of you were always
so amazingly beautiful when you dance because your lines were
amazing, your kicks, jumps, everything was just efforts

(05:17):
less. And I saw like there was so much
in you personally that I just had to draw out.
And the fact that you tried to get it at every step And when
you and and it was obvious that you were trying.

(05:38):
So Oh my God, you weren't the perfect, the perfect person for
the squad 'cause you worked hard.
It takes hard work, but you worked hard.
You, you showed up to work and you didn't leave until it was
finished. So kudos.

(06:01):
The year. Kudos the year, but and I
definitely see that now with some of the cosplay things that
you are doing. Oh my goodness, I am.
But we'll get to that later. I just got to know what.
DeMarcus, what have you been doing this past week?

(06:24):
Man this past week has been pretty low key.
I didn't play in the pool game like I usually do.
I did have a date Thursday went went to karaoke so that was fun.
What you saying? International players anthem.
And that's what you always sing, right?
Yeah, that's my signature song. They go too.

(06:44):
They right. They know me when I do it and
and I was surprised when I went up there when I went to the
because of the carrier spot. I haven't been to in a long time
in Oakland. And it was like hey man, we
haven't seen you in a while. I was like where you been?
I'm like y'all know me. I was like this means I was
coming too much, but that's pretty much it.
Since then it's been like send that home cleaning up.

(07:06):
You know, I plan to like do my hair later today so.
Oh, so you're going to wash it? Wash it, retwist it, give it up
a little style, whole shebang. Oh, OK, OK, OK.
My previous week has not been eventful.
I cooked a lot, which means I was doing dishes a lot like

(07:31):
yesterday. I've made some lamb chops with
collard greens with ham hocks and those Red Lobster biscuits,
spicy garlic mashed potatoes andI did a Mac and cheese.
So a lot of Yeah, you're. Throwing down in the kitchen.

(07:53):
Hold on, I'm practicing for my rich husband for the one meal
that I'll have to cook him a month because we have cooks.
We have a chef on on standby. So, so, so yeah, I cooked, which
means I've been doing dishes forthe rest of this week because

(08:15):
that was a lot of of dishes. So that was me.
Cooking and doing dishes, I knowgoing to the same jobs.
Yes, and our washing machine doesn't work, so I really have
to do everything. They got you in that, scrubbing

(08:37):
clothes like Cinderella in the tub.
I know I feel like Cinderella. OK, so Tyler, I just want to
know now, 'cause you're a teacher, right?
Yeah. So I just want to know, like, is
there any way that you combine what you do in your free time

(09:01):
with your cosplay to your professional work with the
students? I feel like, like my biggest
example right now was Halloween because I definitely came in a
whole Princess Daisy cosplay because the teachers, the theme

(09:22):
that everyone, all the teachers were doing were Mario characters
and they're like, oh, what are you going to do?
I was like, oh, I'll be like Princess Daisy.
So they were expecting some probably basic thing.
Like. Amazon But no, I came to school.
I had the dress with a little tulle skirt underneath, so it's

(09:43):
puffy. I had my hair like an Afro.
And then it was like, my gosh. And the students were like, God,
Miss Hampton, you're a Princess.So I definitely have like
combined like those types of talents with like the Halloween
at school because I didn't want to feel like it'd be weird if I

(10:05):
like dumbed it down because that's.
Just exactly. My element you.
Should have started doing it like every day.
Like pull them in frisbee. Yeah.
And honestly, now that I can have more of a feel because it's
my first year, like for a specific, I'd say like specific
months that we celebrate. Like I know when we had

(10:27):
something for like Black HistoryMonth, I definitely had like a
natural like Afro look with a fit on.
So if it's not a whole costume, then I can really put on like a
nice outfit. OK, OK.
Like like you could be Miss Frizzle one day.
Yes, Oh my gosh, when we do science and we, you know,
ironically, we did watch the Magic School Bus when it was
talking about the cloud cycle. OK, the old versions are the new

(10:52):
versions. I don't.
Know there was a new version. There's a new version of the new
one. There was a new one on Netflix,
yeah. How'd it do?
How was it? I didn't watch it.
It wasn't like the same because it wasn't, it wasn't Miss
Frizzle. It was like Miss Frizzle's
niece. Oh no.

(11:12):
Oh, yeah. So it was like a whole.
And then the theme song was different.
The theme song was sung by Lin Manuel Miranda, you know, the
person that did Hamilton in the Heights.
OK. Maybe, Maybe.
Yeah. But no, I showed the old ones.
Was it nice at all? It was it.
Was. OK, yeah, OK.

(11:33):
Well, I guess so, Tyler. This is the point in the show
where we put our listers on to something and we choose anything
in media from podcast, movies, TVI think last or the markets
tried to do a restaurant. So it could really, really,
really be anything but. You shut that down though.

(11:54):
You said I couldn't do my restaurant.
No, I didn't shut it down. You remembered what you wanted
to do from the previous week. I had started in the animated
right? Right, right.
So I. Can't remember the restaurant
so. You lost your chance.
Yeah, you lost your chance, but you can really say anything you

(12:15):
want to put our listeners on to.And this segment is sponsored by
Movie Pass. DeMarcus, can you tell me about
Movie Pass? Of course, Movie Pass is a
subscription based service all about making movie going easier,
more accessible, cheaper, more fun to do because you know,
movie tickets have gotten up to like $20 a ticket and who's,

(12:36):
who's trying to pay that for real?
So MoviePass, you can like cut that in half, even to 1/3,
depending on which tier of, you know, subscription you're trying
to buy. They'll send you your MoviePass
card in the mail. It acts just like a MasterCard
and you can use that card to payfor movie tickets, you know,
just with the, the points that you will get through that movie
Pass subscription. And you know, I use it all the

(13:00):
time. Can't remember the last movie I
went to go see with it, probablyBrave New World.
Yeah, that was a good movie, Yeah.
You saw it too, Yeah. Oh my God, yeah.
I love that. Captain America's Brave New
World. Right.
I, I like, loved it. I bought a shirt.

(13:21):
I bought a Funko Pop. Yeah, wow.
That is my Captain America. That's good.
Like I like, I adore that movie.Yeah, all the black people liked
it. Others.
I also used to go see these thunderbolts.
That's more recent. I saw thunderbolts too.
I saw thunderbolts too. The mental health.

(13:42):
So Oh yeah, we talked about it. How did you like the new
Thunderbolts, Tyler? I liked Thunderbolts.
I like Yelena, like I loved her when she was well, I guess when
I got to know her more in Black Widows movie and her and her
dad, like that whole scene when she's like, she's just trying to

(14:05):
find out like her place in the world.
I'm like, Oh Jesus, this is so this is so real.
And she's like crying and begging to her dad.
I was like, and then like the whole found family aspect
because you know, this is again, this whole thing is a setup for
the next big thing for Marvel. So I don't know I I enjoyed it,

(14:28):
but I enjoyed it 'cause I was there for one person and I ended
up liking the entire cast. OK, who are you?
Who are you there for? You line up.
I'm there for her. OK, OK, OK.
So Tyler, is there anything thatyou want to put them on to?
It's not a movie, it's definitely an anime that I'm

(14:48):
watching right now. You probably heard me talk about
on my story. I know what you gonna say.
Academia Vigilantes I I read themanga like completion.
I was up to date with it and I'mvery happy that it has an anime
out right now. OK, it's so good.
It builds on the world of My Hero Academia because

(15:09):
essentially My Hero Academia Vigilantes is a prequel to all
the events that happened in current My Hero Academia.
So you get to learn more about, of course, the world and some of
the pro heroes like before they were locked in as teachers at
UA. And it definitely gives more

(15:30):
spotlights to like 10 years older brother.
Like, you see how he was, you know, before, you know, I don't
want to spoil for those, but yeah.
And I'm really hoping we get farther.
Like, I like the whole manga gets animated because there are

(15:53):
definitely other people that make surprise appearances.
It's just really good. It's so good.
And I was telling people to readit, but of course people don't
want to read it. And the anime is doing like a
awesome job with adapting it. Like it's changing the pace of
the manga. It's giving it more action.
It stays true to like the art style, but the colors are just

(16:16):
amazing. Like it's it's so good.
Yeah. So.
Good. Yeah, I, I'm definitely loving
that. I'm loving the theme song that
my only time is I thought we were going to be further back.
And so when I saw like where we were in the timeline and all the
people come popping up, because the story that I thought they

(16:40):
were going to tell was how the the the power people that look
like regular humans and then thepower people that look like
animals and clouds and marshmallows.
How there was this, how there was this, yeah, heteromorphs,
how there's this prejudice between like the heteromorphs

(17:01):
and the regular people. So that's what I wanted to see.
But that's not, that's why I want it.
But that's the way I'm getting. I am loving it.
Like I'm loving to see the powers of fall.
I'm loving to get to know these people.
I'm loving this big guy who apparently doesn't have a power.
I don't know. Knuckle duster.

(17:22):
Yes, yes. But yeah, that's a good one.
That's a good one, Tyler. It's it's really good.
It's really good. DeMarcus, do you have anything
you want to put them on to? I've just started watching the
indoor. I just finished the 2nd episode
right before the podcast startedand I'm, I'm on the fence about

(17:42):
it. You know, I, it's because I feel
like I haven't been able to catch on to like the plot.
Like what is going on because itstarts with him.
It starts with him being captured by like this, I guess,
just like random rebel group because he stole this plane,
flies to the other planet, crashes the plane and then like
this random group like captures him and are like, no, you're not

(18:05):
with us. And I'm like, who are these
people? And why are they on this planet?
Why are they holding him hostagelike this, you know?
But he just. And then like in other places,
like the plot line makes more sense.
Like if you when they jump to like what the what the Empire's
doing. I was like, OK, I remember this
lady. I remember she was getting
demoted for whatever reason. Like that all makes sense, but

(18:26):
I'm just like, what is like what's going on with Andor?
And so I haven't gotten the through line yet.
And maybe I just need to watch afew more episodes.
Like he just escaped in the episode I just saw.
So, you know, maybe it's, maybe it's coming, maybe it'll make
sense soon. Yeah, as I said, Andor is too
smart for me. I did not get it.

(18:47):
I watched the whole third seasonand I don't really understand
what happened. I don't even know if I want to
care it it was just too smart for me.
I know people love it and I'm grateful for that, but I need
some force, power, shooting and lightning being shot.
At. Yeah.

(19:09):
So yeah, Andor was fine. I love the first season.
That season was great, but this season I'm not so or that season
I'm not so Keenum. Now.
Are we all going to be in front of our Disney Pluses next week?

(19:30):
By time this is out, it will already be out but for Iron
Hearts. Absolutely, Absolutely.
Yes. Now from what I've seen, because
they've already posted the episode list, it's going to be 6
episodes and these episodes are gonna span two weeks.

(19:55):
So we're in and out, yeah. Wait six episodes over 2 weeks,
so it's gonna be like an episodeevery day or something.
Three weeks, No 3 episodes like that Tuesday or whatever.
Oh. Yeah, OK.
Yeah. OK, so kind of Netflix style,
like they give us a few episodesevery time.
I mean it's not Disney plus style other than Echo what they

(20:18):
do to our minority people. 'Cause they don't believe in us,
they don't think, they don't think our shows will make
numbers. So it's like.
They have to believe with us nowif the Black Panther was the
best thing that they ever. Had Yeah, and it's the same
person. Is the same person.
They think it's a fluke, and they think it's a fluke every

(20:38):
time. Well, as I said, I'm gonna be
right there front and center on my Disney Pluses at 9:00 to
watch. But you know, I just feel bad
for Disney. First, I feel bad 'cause those
people had to wait four years ormore.

(21:00):
Was it 5 years 'cause they they did.
They filmed this right after Wakanda Forever.
Oh, did they? Yeah, it was like back-to-back,
They filmed this stuff back-to-back and they're
releasing it now. So.
But you know, as I said, I'm most excited to see where the
Hood goes and how he 'cause, youknow, in the comics it's a

(21:25):
demon, but they haven't introduced demons yet.
So we're going to see what happens with that.
That's why. I'm I really feel like they try
to play it safe in the MCU and like not introduce too many
different kinds of powered things.
You think so? I think so because we had we had
Thanos in the Cthulhu. But that's like one thing, but

(21:47):
they're like so many other like.Did you say Cthulhu?
Not, I said. I did say Cthulhu, but I meant
the Chitauri. I mean, sorry.
Sorry, that's my bad. I'm sorry.
But yeah, it feels like, I don'tknow, I feel, I feel like the
MCU always tries to like, play it, Slate play, play it safe and

(22:08):
not give us like a true accounting of what these stories
are. I mean, unless you're talking
about all of time being disrupted for Kang and Loki?
I think that was just a that waslike a burn it all.
We starting over. Find the bridge.

(22:28):
Right, All right guys, I want toput them onto a comic that I
read. I read the first issue because I
could not find a second issue. It's called They Chose Violence.
It's about 3 professional black women from HBCU who decide that

(22:48):
they're in like, OK, I like magic in my stuff.
And this has no magic is they talk about, they from HBCU, they
talk about they jobs and then they're talking about the
injustices that black people seein the world.
Like, you know, Mon Avery, Brianna Taylor, all those

(23:12):
things. And one girl, she actually was
going to do something with computers.
So she changed her major to legal or law because of the
injustice. And later on down the line, she
saw another killing in her hometown.
And she was like, we got to do something.
So they all say, OK, let's start.

(23:33):
Let's, let's start talking aboutlet's be about it.
And then they become serial killers and they start killing
these white people. And like, it was like it was
like, 'cause this thing is like 22 pages, right?
12 pages is the back story. 5 pages is the OR.

(23:55):
Three pages is been talking about it. 2 pages is the
montage. 6 pages is them slaughtering people like
different ways that white peoplecan die by other people.
My God. And then 2 pages is the
cliffhanger which is crazy. The cliffhanger is crazy while I

(24:19):
was scaring everywhere to see where I can buy the second book
but the second. Book that's not out yet.
No, it came out on the 16th and I need to find it.
Amazon didn't have it yet, but everybody needs to go ahead and
read this book because these people get their revenge in Star
fashion. They they aren't messing around

(24:43):
here. They are not messing around.
And the lawyer who don't press the Ivan industry sue W for
prosecution office for Florida. And they all supposed to be like
very professional. And then they shave off all
their hair and they go on this killing spree.

(25:06):
And it's so like you're turning the page.
Like what? And then afterwards one gets a
fancy dinner, one goes on a shopping spree, one goes on a
strip club. And it's so crazy.
And then you get to the final page.
The final page makes you want toread this book more.
I'm trying to tell you. So they chose violence.

(25:30):
I don't know how many white stores is going to have this
because I don't really think it's white good for white people
to have it. But it's a very good block book.
It probably is probably one of the books they want to burn in
Florida. But are you looking it up,
Tyler? I am.

(25:51):
I haven't. I just saved it on my.
Sorry. Yeah, you're good.
You're good, you're good. I wrote it down too.
Please, please, please get Day chose violence because that
story is crazy. It is crazy.
OK, OK. All right, DeMarcus, do we have

(26:14):
an activity for today? We do have an activity, and it's
an easy one. It has pictures.
Yeah. All right.
So for those of those of you whoare listening for the first
time, the way games work on Black Energy is DeMarcus comes
up with the games, He comes up with the answers.
He decides who wins and who loses, so he decides who's

(26:35):
right, who's wrong. And it's like it's a
dictatorship, not a, not a don'twant to hear no back talk.
I say you're wrong, you're wrong.
That's it. OK.
And that's that's just for me because he usually likes to
embarrass me in front of our guest so.
I choose games that that lean that definitely learn more

(26:57):
toward whatever topic we're talking about today.
And when we have guests, obviously it's going to need to
work for the guests. So today's game is called, Hey,
that's cosplay. What I'm going to do is show you
all pictures of cosplayers and all you have to do is just tell
me who they are dressed as. Easy peasy, right?
Because cosplayers always stick like super true to like the

(27:18):
character and all their traits that make them like really
recognizable, right? Sure.
OK, I like the smile that came after that sentence to have to
be the hardest thing ever. Yeah, it is 'cause that that's
that's how he is. That's the most.
Obscure character. It's going to be like a 80s

(27:40):
animated. Yeah, no.
No, no, no, no. They're going to be like really
good. Like you guys can be like, oh, I
know immediately who these people are.
Get my. Brain together.
Jerry is sharing. Do I have sharing permissions?
Yeah, I. Do look at you Jerry, you never
have the permissions ready. So Marcus, don't punish me for

(28:03):
that. I'm not, I'm not, I'm just
trying to make sure this is whatI want.
I'm sharing one screen so I can see everything my sidebar here.
All right, actually, they'll do up there.

(28:26):
OK. OK, yeah, I'll see the screen.
Yes. Yes.
All right, great. I'm thinking the number for what
in 10? 4. 3.
Answer. The number was 8.
Jerry, you're going to go first.Who is this person?

(28:46):
Well, this person. Dressed as?
Who is this person cosplaying? Oh yeah, this person is
cosplaying as one of Carol bits.My favorite cosplay that she did
Shanley. Excellent, Jerry C Easy.
Yeah. I feel like the games always

(29:06):
start out this way, like they'rethey're the games are always
easy and like people start overthinking halfway through
but. Well, and also I'm a gay
millennial, so we always pick Chumley when we played Street
Fighter. I did have a big chumley phase
back in my day. The only person that came close
was E Honda. Let me see if I can.

(29:31):
What do you mean? What do I mean?
The only person that came close with the Honda.
Yeah. Like that's the only a person I
I played with as much as 2. Weeks.
Oh OK, I'm not the same, that's how weird.
All right #2 who is this person Tyler?
That is Luigi. Absolutely back there for Luigi

(29:54):
you got please y'all see you. Tyler, did you get a switch too?
Not. Yet.
I need that one game that's like, you know what, gonna get
it? I'm trying to hold out 'cause it
is like $500. What game they don't like?

(30:15):
I mean, I know they're making a new, they're making a new game
for Splatoon. I'm like, yeah, and then the
game are like $80 each, so. Yes, again.
And then there's tax and tariffs, so.
Hard to justify it, at least in this very moment.

(30:35):
It is. It is for one game.
It's just not for. The Doctor Khan Country Games
didn't do it for you that. That it looks cool.
I'm like, this is my like one thing from it.
I really wish they did announce like, baby Pauline so soon.

(30:56):
I was really hoping that that could have just been a surprise
in the game. But I understand marketing.
They need people to get the game.
But I was like, oh, that would have been just something cool to
like, find out. Like if I watched someone play
it and I saw that, I'll be like,Oh yeah, I got to play it
myself. Yeah.
Fair enough. Fair enough.
OK. And I also was looking for Kunti

(31:17):
Kong when I. They should've.
They whoever made that meme, I'mgonna find you because that was
not fair. Yeah, that.
Should have been Kunty Kong. Now her name, Her name is like
Poppy Kong I'm. Like crazy.
I gotta look that up. I haven't heard of Kunty Kong.

(31:39):
When I say like when I saw the character, I'm like oh wow,
she's so kunty. And then see the.
Picture I was like Oh my God, her name is Kunty Kong.
Like yes. Yes, yes.
OK, next one number three, back to you, Jared.
Who is this person? Sinister.
Absolutely, Mr. Sinister, another point in your follow.

(32:03):
Now I'm starting to wish I had chosen my harder, harder people,
harder characters to recognize #4.
That is Luffy from. One piece?
Yep. Don't second guess yourself.
That's exactly. Who it is?
I was like the indicator is always the hat, so that was the.
First, Yeah, without the hat. Without the hat is like, what?

(32:26):
Wait a minute. All right #5 Jared.
Oh, that's moon night. Moon night When will we get
another season? Of that's what I'm asking 'cause
they ended on that cliffhanger. So I hope we.
Did another one. I hope they don't do it like
family other so that they actually did have like love

(32:47):
crafting for love. Cat crunches number six.
There are two people here. Half a point, half a point for
each one. So that's Peter Pan and
Tinkerbell. One time.
She got the pose down right. Right y'all are neck and neck

(33:10):
going into #7 Jerry, who is this?
I. Feel like he's pretty
recognizable, the little the little baby in his hands gives
him. I feel like gives him away.

(33:30):
No. All right, probably you want to
try to steal the plumbing. No, I mean, I'm going to guess
you're. Thinking you're thinking.
OK, OK, Period. I'm going to say this is
Roseanne Barr. Wow.
From Roseanne show No. OK, who is it?

(33:55):
Tyler, you must say so sorry this bit.
I don't think I can figure that out either.
This is Peter Pettigrew from Harry Potter.
I've only seen those movies oncethat is in theaters at midnight,
so. Oh wow, you know you don't.

(34:16):
You don't watch all the Harry Potter moving over again during
Harry Potter season. I haven't yet, but I made before
the the show comes on. This is going to be a show.
On HBO do I guess why are you under a rock like every episode
and. I depend on you to to tell me to
tell me these things. Give him the current events.

(34:38):
Keep me here. For.
DeMarcus needs a downloading appon his phone.
Or just subscribe to The Hollywood Reporter and just read
the headline. But do you even check your
e-mail? I do, but it's most like stop
and stuff. Oh my God I just got So what?
Sure, alright #8 Tyler. This one actually is hard and a

(35:02):
little bit of more of an obscurecharacter, so I'm willing to
give a hint. Oh man, is is this person from
like a comic or show like you say?
Yeah, I'll tell you where where they're from.

(35:23):
This person is from a movie. I'm trying to think because if
you can give me the movie, I'll give you the point.
So I know this is a hard 1. So what kind of hit can I give
you? This is a movie about a little,
a little boy. Let me see.

(35:47):
Yeah, 'cause I just want to givean accurate description.
So it's about a little boy who'sleft out stolen, who's a baby
and he's on the quest to defeat his his mother's twin sisters

(36:13):
and his ominous grandfather, theMoon King, who is responsible
for stealing his left eye. And he has like a monkey
sidekick and also like a beetle man hybrid I.
Didn't see this. It's like, I don't think I know
this one. There you you, you don't have a

(36:33):
guess or. Yeah, Wednesday, Adams.
Alright, I hate. When I hate when Jerry guesses
Tyler. Do you have a guess for the
movie or the character? Nah, OK.
It's OK. This is sister from Kugo and the
two strings. Oh, you know, that's, that was a

(36:56):
like a stop motion, right? Yeah.
There's some people that made Coraline.
Yeah, yeah. Yes, OK, I think.
A little more here. You never saw Cuckoo on the twin
St. It's not a bad movie, not about
you should give it a watch. Alright, Jared #9 who is this
person? That is a spider character from

(37:23):
the spider verse in the movie. She was spider woman OK, played
by Issa Rae. Excellent.
Excellent. Alright #10 Tyler, who is this?
Oh, my God. But she's from the boys.
Yeah. Oh, it's so bad that I'm looking

(37:44):
at her name. Oh, no, that's so bad.
So she dates Huey. You know exactly who she is
like. I know, but her?
Name. Starlight.

(38:05):
Yes, it is Starlight excellent job and right now y'all are tied
and I anticipated a tie. So there is an 11th question.
Let's see how we want to do this.
All right, There is a raise handfeature in Zoom.
So whoever raises their hand first is who will get to answer

(38:28):
the question first, but the other person will have the
chance to steal after the first makes their guests.
Does that make sense? How do you raise your hand?
What? Great question.
Great question. Looking for it.
Oh OK, it's it's when you click the react.

(38:51):
Yeah, there's a OK, I can't see it 'cause I'm sharing my screen,
that's what it is. But there's a reacting and then
it should be a raise hand there. You see it, Tyler?
I see play chime for raise hand and recognize hand gestures.
If I if I hit react will it justshow something?
No, no, no. It's not another big React and
it gives you some options. Oh yeah, OK, I see it.

(39:15):
OK. Y'all want to give a practice
round? Raising your hand now.
OK. All right.
OK, good. Pop my hand.
OK. All right.
Yeah, and it and it and it jumped into the top of the
screen, so I'll be able to know who raised their hand first
immediately. OK.
Are we prepared? Yes, yes.
Right. Who is this person?

(39:40):
Jared, you're already up there. That is Oh my God, I know who
this is. That's the Joker.
Yeah, that's that's the Joker. You.
Gonna be more specific. That's the Joker when he is
Bruce Wayne and he was he, he had a dose of the Joker serum

(40:04):
and he turned into the Joker. So that's and.
They and they call him what? We don't call him the Joker.
That's who he is, you bastard. Oh, oh, that laughs.
Something about that laughs. The the the something that

(40:28):
laughs, right? The the the that that laughs or
something. Close enough.
I will. I will give it to you and Jared.
That makes you our winner with five points.
This last person is the Batman Who Laughs.

(40:49):
The Batman Who Laughs. See, I only had Joker, but I'm
like, no, he's going to ask me for something specific.
So I'm like, hold on. I would have definitely been
more gracious with you because Iknow Jared talks about this
character a lot. So that's why that's why I gave
him very little, very little wiggle room.
But no, that was a great job. That was that was neck and neck.

(41:10):
It's usually it's closed when wehave a guest on.
Great job, great job. Next time, next time we'll have
you on. I'll I'll sway it more in your
favor. Tyler No.
It's OK that. Was so fun.
Oh my God. OK, Well, Tyler, you have been

(41:30):
going to a lot of these cons recently.
I know you have some more that you're going to, but there has
been some controversy at the black con recently.
Can you just tell me what happened at the con?
I think it was blurry con or something in Texas or somewhere.

(41:53):
Dream con. Dream Con and the omegas found
each other and were happening and then this guy on there was
recording. It was like, why can't black
people ever go around without people or without them acting a
fool or something? Or yeah, it was crazy.

(42:13):
You've seen. A fraternity before What's
going? On SO, can you kind of tell me
what happened 'cause you were there right it?
Was yeah, I was at Dreamcon. Honestly, I don't know.
It was really crazy because evenat Dreamcon there was a whole
HBCU in D9 meet up. And I'm also like a part of this

(42:36):
group called the Blurred 9 whereit's like we're actively
collecting black nerds who are part of the Divine 9.
Because our whole thing is like we before we had the letters, we
were nerds. And you know, when you meet
people that are in the same organization as you, of course
you're going to get excited. You're in a like, it's like a

(42:58):
whole little party. Like you just want to celebrate
with them and do your one too. And it's not like they were in
the way. They were quite literally like
in a corner doing their own thing.
And of course people are just going to be mad because there's
a whole thing with like, again, not thinking people in the The

(43:19):
Divine 9 are nerds or just maybethey tried to be in the
organization, they didn't get in.
And then they hold like some resentment or they just hold
resentment toward the org itselfor whatever reason.
I don't know, like no one got hurt.
Like, I don't really know what they're saying or like be
outraged. It was literally just like them

(43:40):
having fun. It's not like they're in a
crowded space and they moved people out of the way to do
their thing. It wasn't like a Holland party.
No, no, it's not like they just create a circle in the middle of
the dance floor. They were just literally to
themselves on the side, excited to see other cues that are nerds

(44:01):
'cause we don't like when we go to cons, we don't outwardly wear
like our pair. We're in costumes, right?
So unless you like, tell someonethat you're a part of something,
then it's like Oh my God, me too.
Were were they in? Were all the cubes that were
like hopping in that instance? Were they in cosplay?
Yeah. They were.

(44:22):
Yeah, they were. They were all in costumes.
No one had any speck of Nalia on.
Them nothing would have been an issue if they did because.
But yeah, because I hear a lot that, well, the the sentiment
that I've been seeing a lot, it's kind of you kind of alluded
to is that like a lot of a lot of geeks, a lot of nerds, they
are, they feel offended because anime and cosplay and geek the

(44:45):
most becoming like cool and mainstream.
And it wasn't cool growing up. And we had to, like, hide in the
shadows and watch anime and like, search for it online,
like, put our Yuvio carts at thebottom of the book bag.
Like I know and I understand. Like I I would be teased in
middle school for liking anime. And just because I'm AKA now

(45:09):
doesn't mean that I didn't experience what it was like to
be bullied for liking anime, right?
Like I like before learning all this info for my work, I was
learning anime openings in the Japanese.
Like please, I'm, I'm a nerd. Yeah, I'm just a nerd with
letters now. I learned, I learned some social

(45:30):
skills along the way. Now, how big is Dreamcon?
Like when you go there, 'cause I'm trying to see what's the
space small or is it like a little space or, you know, why
was it such an outrage for this person to be recording it with
his cell phone and then to post it with him saying on that?

(45:53):
Dreamcon That Convention Center was huge.
It was a big space. Like different days are of
course going to be more crowded.Like on Friday it's not as
crowded as Saturday. Everyone's there, so maybe it
feels like a little space. And then Sunday there's barely
anyone there because people are like going home and that's the

(46:15):
last day of the con. But that's like Convention
Center is ridiculously big. And this was my first dream con.
So people were saying they likedit more this year since it's at
a, it's at a whole new venue compared to the old venue, it
was smaller. So again, like they were not
bumping into anyone. Like you can see the lack of

(46:39):
people around them in that videofor them to be able to just do
their stuff. Yeah, yeah, it looked like they
had faith chamber. I'm I didn't see why it was such
a big deal. I mean, just black people being
black, Like, yeah, are you done what this is about?
Yes. And it's like how we, we're in

(46:59):
a, we're trying to have like a safe space.
How are you going to kick us outof this safe space?
We're a part of this. Space what yo I I just think
people like when they, when theyfind their geekdom, they they
just, they start gatekeeping it as hard as they can.
They don't want other people to enjoy it.
And I don't understand that when, like in middle school,

(47:20):
when I was getting into anime, Idragged all of my friends with
me because it's like, if I'm into it, I need you guys to be
as equally obsessed with it as Iam, like.
I love somebody, yes. And it's like anime and like all
like geekdom. I feel like geekdom is like a
really cool thing. Like once you really sit down
and just get into that media that you like.

(47:42):
I don't understand gatekeeping. I really don't.
Maybe that's why I just don't. So you have done the costume of
many many a popular figure. So what were some of your

(48:02):
favorite cosplays so far? I would say one of my favorite
cosplays so far is it's a it's atie between 2:00.
Almost 3 now because I'm starting to like another one a
bit more. It's SpongeBob SquarePants.

(48:24):
Yeah. Cosplaying SpongeBob for rapper
The Rapper. Yes.
And I'm starting to like my Shadow the Hedgehog cosplay a
lot more. OK.
And yeah, those are like the topthree.
SpongeBob Parappa and Shout the Hedgehog.
Those are my faves right now. Now you really like for rapper

(48:46):
the rapper. So did you do?
Did you play this game as a child?
No I did not. I don't play for rapper as a
kid. I like just watched.
I don't even remember. No I watched a YouTube play it
and he wasn't doing a good job so I watched a no commentary
video to see how it's supposed to be played and then from there

(49:08):
I saw oomjammer Lammy the secondpreppa game and then learned how
there's like albums for the respective games.
So I just like dove into the world.
Recently I have played it and I basically like, since I know the
music so well, I just like spendrun through the game, except the

(49:31):
fourth stage because it was really buggy.
But other than that, like recently, that was like my first
time actually playing the game. But yeah, I'm so obsessed with
you. So you like the game?
I do I I just like the whole world around it because it's
like the I also did a whole little video essay about the

(49:51):
second game and how it has a bigtheme on maturing.
It's. Just a good game.
I got obsessed. I have never played the Rapido
rapper. Wow, I know.
Period. I know.
Got to play it. I I played the Rapido rapper.
I never beat the game because I never owned it but I played it

(50:13):
at like friends houses. Nice.
I just remember he'll be like, there's one part where he's like
in a restaurant and it's like, flip the burger.
Yeah, hey, I let this man go at all.
Oh my God, yeah, that's the second game.
You it it was no, because I don't want to like harp on prop
the rapper because I can becauselike from the first game to the

(50:35):
second game was such a big like mind you, the first game came
out. I wasn't even born yet.
And the second game out the the second game came out around the
year I was born. So this is like I'm talking as
if I remember when it came out. No, I've got this second-half of
it. Oh, you can.

(50:56):
And I always want to say you canharp on anything you want to
harp on. But.
But yeah, for rapper, the rapper, it was a good 'cause I
do remember the first thing whenit came out and I was like, that
looks fine. I want to play and I never, I
never got to. So yeah.
Good if you want to get. To the world of rhythm games.

(51:16):
Yes, get into rhythm games. Rhythm games are so good.
I love rhythm games. Or there was Guitar Hero.
There was correct. Tyler, so you have been to Dream
Con and you've been to the whitePeople Cons.

(51:38):
Can you say what some of the differences are between the two?
Well, I think the obvious thing is just the demographic that's
there. So I said I was talking to a
friend about it and it's like atcons regard like regardless

(52:01):
you'll get over stimulated because there's a lot of people.
But when I go to like a predominantly white con and I'm
over stimulated, I'm like, I'm not not vibing.
I want to go home. But if I'm over stimulated at a
predominantly black convention, I'm like, it's OK, you know,
black people are here so I'll befine.
It's definitely a different vibe.
Like I think the two predominantly Black cons I've

(52:23):
been to so far are blurred con and Dream Con, and it just feels
very safe to be there. And it's cool to see.
Like, you know, other Black people run panels, host parties,
be in the vendors. It just feels, it just feels

(52:43):
nice. It's just a nice feeling.
It's like a nice little homecoming.
Like you're excited to see otherpeople in costume that look like
you. So of course I'm gonna get
excited. And then there's a lot of
connections. Like I met a lot of people and
like a lot of Instagram mutuals, like we're cool because I met
them there. And it's like now we actively

(53:06):
look for each other if we go to like predominantly white
conventions. Cause like we get it.
Like it's the like a safe, a safe feeling, want, familiarity
wherever we go. Absolutely.
So I guess is, is there a difference of like what you're
seeing cosplayed at the predominantly white con versus a

(53:28):
predominantly black con? Oh yeah, so like at Blur con I
saw a whole cosplay for like Shanane from Martin.
You're not going to do it from Martin predominantly white con.
There's so many cons like at like predominantly only black
conventions where it's just likereferences of like black culture

(53:48):
and of course, like famous characters in black culture at
predominantly white cons. It's, you know, your typical
like someone be like idols or like Vocaloids for like other
like comic book characters. Just, you know, the usuals that
you would expect. See 50,000 Naruto within 100.

(54:12):
Yeah, yes. So recently you did AI don't, I
don't know what you call it, butyou call it a.
It was a majorette style dance. Oh yes, yeah, I said.
It was called the rhythms of anime, a major or major dance

(54:33):
experience. And I loved that you did that.
How was that when you were, you know, going in there?
There was a huge crowd. Go Tigers.
I was so shocked. I'm like downplaying like no
one's going to come, it's OK, ifat least five people come then
it'll be a success. Like it was really fun and I'm

(54:58):
happy to combine both like animeand like dance, especially since
there's a lot of anime openings just songs from like anime OS TS
that are good like dancing songs.
It was good. I taught 2 I think I taught like
2 stands and we danced to like aband arrangement of Cowboy Bebop

(55:24):
the that opening and Giorno Giovanna's theme from JoJo
Bizarre Adventures part five. OK, it was cool.
Like it was so it was so cool and everyone had fun.
I had a lot of people come like afterwards saying like they want
me to do it at because I did this at blurred con.

(55:45):
They want me to do it at future blurred cons and they feel like
they got to have their like majorette experience because
they didn't do it in college. But there was someone there who
did major at an HBCU and I'm so sad that I'm like blanking on
the name Tomb cuz we had a wholetalk about it cuz she's like,
yeah. It gave me like it's like a

(56:05):
flashback. And even when she was doing it,
when she would finish the dance move, she would finish.
However they finished at her school.
I was like, nice to see you. I see you.
It was so cool. So I definitely like after that
I'm like submitting it to like other conventions because.
Oh nice it. Was a nice it was a nice time.

(56:26):
Is it is that is that tough to do?
Is that tough to get like because I imagine nothing like
that had been done before? Is it tough to get that onto the
schedule at a con? I don't know if it was at least
for their end. I don't know if it was tough,
but on my end it wasn't because it was like not something new I

(56:47):
was doing. Like I've, I've dance.
It's just like and I teach, so two things I can do, which is
great. Let me just ask you this.
There are a lot of things like you just post on your story.
Something about some guy at a con that was not being very

(57:15):
hospitable when he was around people.
He kept coming in, he kept saying weird things to some of
the girls that were there. He just wasn't very a fun person
to be around. So is that something that you

(57:38):
get often, 'cause I do hear a lot of stories like that where
girls are in cosplay and, and women and they are, you know,
not being treated fairly. So is that something that you
also get? Is that something that you see
often? Yes, I do see it often.
And when I do see it, I try my best to step in to like, hey,

(58:03):
are you OK? I always ask are you OK?
And if they're fine then I like leave it alone.
I feel like I'm fortunate to nothave that many experiences
because it can get scared like someone following you and you're
so making you uncomfortable. But if I don't, if someone
approaches me and I don't know them, then I'm already like

(58:25):
cautious on how I interact with them to avoid, you know,
situations like that. So if they're like, oh, like
nice costume, I'm like, thank you.
And then I'm going to keep it pushing.
But it's different compared to someone I do know, whether I,
you know, met them online or like I've met them at a previous
convention. I already know that I can like,

(58:46):
interact with you in a certain way.
So it's scary. It's scary.
Yeah, it sounds scary, but do you see that happening, you
know, at the black cons and the white cons evenly?
Yes, Dang, I creepy people are going to be everywhere.

(59:07):
It's no matter where you go, no matter what they look like,
there are going to be creepy people that invade a space,
which is really sad to say. That's why sometimes I feel like
I'm always like on the the defense, like I don't want to
ever interact with that or have people interact with that, but
it's just it happens everywhere. So it's like inevitable, which

(59:31):
is again, really sad to say. Yeah, you know, like just come
for a cons. I didn't have a question.
So is it so I know the the bad rap that cons get a lie aside
from like folks being previouslythey're they're like musty and
it has that been your experience?
No, I was hoping you'd be like, Oh no, that's not true.

(59:52):
No. Your face.
Because and not it's like, I don't understand why people
stink. Like I get it.
Like I don't. Understand why people.
Stink, like, I like, you know, the climate, you're in a hot
costume, but there's no shame infreshening up.

(01:00:15):
Yeah, I personally have like a stick of deodorant with me
'cause I don't want to be stinky.
Like I don't not. Me.
That is, and it's like at. All Oh my God, yeah, that's that
is what I hear the most for how is today the people that stay
like in France. Jesus, I was thinking.

(01:00:38):
We. Have like like places to freshen
up at the con. It's like, oh, here is like a
bathroom or a locker room or here is where you can cause I've
been to, I went to Coachella andthey were like giving out like
soap. Wow.
Yeah, Like when you went to the showers and you went to the
bathroom or whatever, they were like giving out like soap and
ditchener and shampoo and all this other stuff.

(01:01:00):
Is is there anything similar at the cons?
No, we just got a bathroom, but maybe we need to start setting
up some showers. What?
No, it's all I got is the bathroom.
I don't know, like you smell yourself.
Like I'm conscious about how I like smell, especially if I'm
going to be near people. So if I feel like I'm sneaking a
little bit, I'm going to excuse myself and.

(01:01:24):
Yeah. And then I'll come back.
Yeah, especially like dancing and everything.
Oh my goodness. Yeah, it's OK.
And these cons are often like, you know, in the, in like the
Southern states there, you know,Virginia, Texas, Atlanta, you
know, California, it's they're not in cold places, so.
It's hot. We need to like prepare

(01:01:46):
accordingly. OK Tyler, so one of the most
interesting things about you is that you do have a boyfriend and
he also is a cosplayer. So what is that like to have
some big strong man around you? You, Charlie and he ride you

(01:02:12):
right there. Like what you doing?
It is nice, but like again to the topic earlier, like creepy
people coming up to you, I feel like that's a bit less because I
have like the guard dog with me.It is really nice and it's funny
because he didn't cosplay beforelike meeting me.

(01:02:35):
He always wanted to, but I'd like dragged him into this world
because he's like, he showed interest, which of course of
someone shows interest and cost when I'm going to be like, yeah,
do it, Yeah. So I am an enabler, right?
How you start? Yeah, it's really.
Yeah, you know, it could be worse things, but I'm making

(01:02:56):
well, I'm not making he. I inspired this man to.
There you go, dress up. So yeah, that looks fun to have
a good boyfriend, to be always around you and like the things
that you like. So I have another question.
It's probably my last question less than Marcus wants to ask
something. What is your most expensive

(01:03:20):
cosplay that you've done so far?My most expensive this.
And you know what? This isn't even a cosplay I wear
anymore. I haven't done this since 2015.
Oh wow. Yeah, it was a yeah, it's kind

(01:03:45):
of I, I said I would because thethe character, so the character
and whoever listens to this, I'msorry to give you this jump
scare. He's from an anime called
Hetalia. And Hetalia is basically an
anime where it teaches you abouthistory, typically world history
with well through the countries, but other countries are

(01:04:09):
personified humans. It's a comedy.
It's pretty good. Like each episode is 5 minutes.
So it's like genuinely an easy binge if you ever decide to get
into it. OK, but my the character, I
cosplayed his name. It's America because I am, I am
American. Yeah, I am American.

(01:04:33):
I guess. I guess.
But yeah, it was that cosplay was around like 200.
Yeah, but it was like good quality.
It was on eBay. I saw.
Nowadays it's like more. And I'm like, yeah, I'm glad I

(01:04:54):
got when I did 10 years ago. I don't wear it. 200 black
American dollars. Yeah.
No, that's a really cheap price for a cosplay though.
Yeah, I mean, I've heard, yeah, some people drive like almost
1000 on some I'm like. Yeah, my, my, my younger
brother's a furry and so when hetells me about like going to

(01:05:16):
furry con and stuff. That no, you got to be rich.
To be a furry, you got to be rich.
Especially you got a little pants inside your inside the
suit so you don't overheat. They, it's like their costumes.
I like, I have a lot of respect for like people that have like
the fur suits because those likethey make designs, they figure
out what they want to look like.Sometimes their eyes move.

(01:05:39):
It's so much that gets built into it.
I'm like, this looks better thanlike mascot characters at Disney
World. Crazy.
This could be a mascot for sports team.
Yes. I honestly if sports teams
really tapped in with furries tolike, really represents their
characters, that could just takethings up like 10 notches.

(01:06:00):
Yeah. I would go to the sports ball
games. Sports ball games.
I would really go. I mean the only one I like is
Ellie. Have you seen Ellie the
Elephant? Yes, New York.
Liberty. Liberty.
New York. OK, Tyler, this is.

(01:06:21):
I have I have more questions. OK, go ahead.
And math. So for folks listen out there
who may be interested in cosplaythe way your boyfriend was, the
way Jared is, can you give them a quick overview of how to get
started? You know where where can they
begin their cosplay? This.

(01:06:43):
Whenever someone's like, oh, I want to get into it, I'm like,
OK, what character? And then they say character, I'm
like, OK, go online, look up a costume.
Like just look how look how the character is.
And if you have a vision for that character, whether it's
like you want to buy it, you want to make it your own, just

(01:07:04):
start formulating that. And then once you got all that
stuff figured out, all the bits and pieces, then just go for it.
Just go for it. Just do it.
Just do it. Do it.
Just do it. You have an idea, just do it.
And I always. Say people.
Need No, just it doesn't matter. It it literally doesn't matter.

(01:07:25):
And if you need resources for like where to get things like
either costumes or wigs or things to get props, then of
course, like I will help as muchas I can.
Or just I say hey, go on Reddit because everyone on Reddit has
the answers for some for some reason.
So you so for your cosplay, do you like buy an entire costume

(01:07:49):
or do you just buy pieces and then put it together yourself?
Or are you? Are you up?
Yeah. Are you up?
Late nights like sewing a vest together.
It depends on the costume. I do want to invest in a sewing
machine because I want to cosplay pop set for my hero
vigilantes. And that whole process I

(01:08:12):
eventually got like the base costume, but I'm going to make
the accessories. But yeah, so some some costumes
I'll buy the whole thing. So like spider bite, I bought
that whole suit because I have no expertise to make my own
spider suit yet. But for a cosplay like
SpongeBob, I like bought a blouse, bought the yellow vest,

(01:08:37):
got the socks, I got them all separately.
I also cosplayed dot from Animaniacs and I remember going
to a Halloween store and it was like donkey ears and they were
Gray. So I got that.
I got some blue fabric dye, got a random sunflower and I like
assembled her ears like that. So it it really depends on the

(01:09:01):
costume or the character. That's I like that because I
always feel like the cosplays I've done have been like, I buy
the whole costume one, one thing.
And there's no shame in that. There is absolutely no shame in
that. Yeah, and but the ones, but the,
the cosplays are always better when like the person that's like
taking the time to like assemblethe costume, assemble the pieces

(01:09:23):
like you bought, you bought someears, the item black added a
flower. Like even that little bit of
effort turns out way better thanjust like the Amazon out the box
costume. Because I'm what I had to end up
doing for one of them is I bought like 3 different ones and
I had to like grab different size pieces out each box to make
my whole costume and then returnthose stuff I didn't need.

(01:09:44):
And and you know, like also sometimes with assembling,
thrifting is also like a good option because truly you can,
you never know what you could find the thrift store.
And even if it's like an idea ofwhat you can make it into, like
still get it. And then of course you have that
moment of building it into whatever it is for the costume.

(01:10:06):
But if it's at the end of the day, if you make it your own,
like whether you bought it, you didn't buy it, you made it
yourself, it's still your own, right?
It's still your own creation. Absolutely.
OK, yeah, One more question. You get a lot of in your in your
own cosplay. Have you gotten a lot of like,
oh, that character is not black? That character shit, it is not

(01:10:30):
supposed to look the way they look when you do it.
You're not supposed to do that character because of the way you
look. Yes, I do.
I don't talk about it. I've talked about it recently
because I cosplayed a character named Hazel Wells from Fairly
Odd Parents, A New Wish, which is like a reboot of the old

(01:10:50):
Fairlait Parents people. Well, people have told me I look
like a character named Frisk from Undertale, and it's like,
yes, they are very similar clothwise.
I'm getting a lot of comments where people are saying like the
N word for that character. Yeah, I just, I had to make a

(01:11:10):
lot of words hidden and it's like, whatever.
And then I remember people wouldsay that same thing about my
SpongeBob, and I'm like Spongebob's yellow.
It doesn't matter. It's right, he's a sponge.
But yeah, I do get that. But I'm not a black one.
Yeah, like. I try not to harp on it too much

(01:11:32):
because like, at the end of the day, people on the Internet are
just people on the Internet and they'll try to tear you down.
So like, I do get it, but it's like, OK, you can say whatever
you want, but like, I'm still cosplaying this character.
Exactly. They're gonna be black today.
Yeah, they're gonna be black today.
Exactly. OK, So you passed the interview

(01:11:55):
session. What we're going through now is
the quick fire session. So Tyler, what we do is we are
going to ask you 17 questions based on our previous episodes
and you can just answer with theanswers, usually one word.

(01:12:16):
But if you want to give us a more in depth, you know,
explanation of your answer. So Are you ready?
Yes. All right, number one, who is

(01:12:36):
the gayest Disney villain? Wow, I think that's bad that my
first thing was Scar knowing good and well it was the aura, I

(01:12:57):
don't know why. Oh, I know why.
I definitely know why it's got. A final answer.
OK, no explanation. All right, So what is your next
fun cosplay? Well you said pop step, but have

(01:13:18):
you been looking into Beyond popstep for your next cosplay?
Yes I like I have like 3 people lined up like pops up Momo from
danda Dan and Hesge from Sakamoto days.

(01:13:40):
Oh, OK, OK. Who is your favorite side
character in Sonic? Amy.
OK. Amy Rose.
OK, that's a good answer. That's a good answer.

(01:14:00):
What is the best anime to get into as a first timer?
Full Metal Alchemist, I'll say from my Alchemist Brotherhood
because 2003 it's a whole different process because the
manga wasn't completed at the time.
So it's does not have a can likea Canon ending, but it's still

(01:14:23):
very good storytelling and the characters are very good.
Like they're they're characterized a bit differently,
but Full Metal Alchemist, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood,
both. See, I'm with your Full Metal
Alchemist, that is one of the best anime of all times.
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhoodis one of the worst animes of

(01:14:46):
all. Absolutely.
Not. Hate it?
Brotherhood. Is brotherhood.
I've never heard someone say that they hated brotherhood
because I'm always fighting for my life to tell people that 2003
is good. Yeah, because the reason why you
don't find anybody, because all these people, they not real,

(01:15:06):
they watch anime when it came onto Toonami, so they went on the
Internet like me. And that is?
True searching searching lookingat these pre Reddit websites to
find the next anime. So no they found this stuff on

(01:15:26):
on what's it called? Tsunami.
So they are Tsunami 5. These two are Tsunami anime
heads. If you weren't looking up an
anime name, Part 1 of episode. Five, then you.
Don't, don't talk to me. Thank you if.
You wasn't risking your grandma's computer.
No, almost pirate is. Thank you.

(01:15:47):
Thank you. So that's where we went.
Through like 3 computers at minebetween anime and limewire.
Limewire was the best, OK, but Fullmetal Arkham's brotherhood
is amazing. I love how they where they took
the characters. You really got to see the people
in the fight that were fighting like it was so amazing.

(01:16:10):
So Fullmetal Arkham's is my favorite.
All right. Would you rather be a werewolf
or a vampire? I would rather be a werewolf.
As they were the answer too. A lot of people like like get
stuck on this question. They have to like, really think
about it. Because I I say no vampire

(01:16:33):
because I don't want the sun to be like the thing that ends me.
OK, OK, living single or girlfriends.
Oh, living single and say livingsingle.

(01:16:57):
Yeah. Girlfriends was just a toxic
show. Yes, it was and that show it
annoyed me to not, I don't say annoyed, but like it was just
that the friend group and the dynamic I was like how are you
guys still girlfriends? They weren't.
They don't even know the name ofyour son.

(01:17:18):
Like what? Yeah, living single all the way.
So who is your favorite rapper turned into an actor?
Let me say Ice Cube. OK, OK, Ice Cube.

(01:17:39):
Let's say Ice T for a second. I was like, wait a minute.
Yeah, huge, huge, huge transformation.
OK, whose side are you on, Professor X or Magneto?

(01:18:03):
If I say Professor X, will I getjumped?
No, we're just going to end thispodcast right here.
Thank you so much. No, I.
Understand we're being on Professor X side because I was
also a Professor X guy for a very long time, most of my life.
Yeah, sorry, I'm sorry. He's a horrible person, he's a

(01:18:25):
horrible human being, and he's the reason why the X-Men have to
go through what they got. No, not the X-Men.
All of Mutant Khan OK aliens come to earth.
It's your job to make them love movies.
What do you make them watch? Love movies, not the human race.

(01:18:51):
Movies. Well, no, no, no, no, no.
I'll say make them love the human race, not love movies.
With the movie. Yeah, you have to use a movie to
make them love the human race. Oh.
That's much harder. Is it biased to say sinners so
they like black people? Oh, no, just go ahead and say

(01:19:11):
homicide. That's your I'm.
Gonna say sinners. Yeah, I need them to like us,
you know, before they get influenced.
Yeah, yeah, Europeans are good at influencing.
Surprising you didn't say alien or Predator.

(01:19:34):
Nah, Nah. OK.
Oh, we can kill these folks. Now you don't.
Want to get a no idea? We don't want to get no ideas.
OK, what is the best cosplay that you have ever seen?

(01:19:56):
One of my mutuals cosplayed a gingerbread Black Panther like
he was in a ginger, like it was a suit and it was like a little
gingerbread. Wow.
That I feel like that I was like, that was awesome.
That sounds awesome. It really does.

(01:20:17):
A gingerbread Black Panther. I love, I love cosplay matchups
like that. Me too.
I saw I saw 1A pimp named Iron Man and I was like, I gotta, I
gotta do that cosplay one day. A pimp named Iron Man.
Yeah, and I am remembering. I don't.

(01:20:37):
Yeah, I I feel like I've seen divine 9 Power Rangers.
Yo that would be so dope. OK, OK, what is your favorite
adults cartoon that's not anime?South Park, Yes, I love South

(01:21:02):
Park. I was a it sounds bad to say I
was a South Park kid 'cause I definitely stumbled upon that in
the 5th grade. But yeah, I really like South
Park. Me too, I wish they still had
ATV show instead of whatever they're doing with Paramount
Plus in those little movies, vignettes, whatever they're
called. It really like this whole thing
with Paramount really upsets me,especially since they're moving

(01:21:25):
somewhere. I don't know if it's back.
I I don't know, I think it's like all the episodes are gonna
be on Paramount because it was like the show was on Max and
only their specials was on Paramount.
But since they're doing this shift, they're taking away more
episodes and there's already like a handful of banned
episodes from South Park already.
So it's like combating the wholethe whole thing with South Park

(01:21:49):
is they're trying to fight against censorship, but now it's
like we're losing that message, which upsets me.
But hey, I don't give them moneylike the big execs do, so.
All right, who's your favorite, Cosmo or Wanda?

(01:22:11):
They're two halves of one whole idiot.
Wanda. Wanda.
OK, so she can be silly, but she, you know, she still gets
stuff done. Yes, I was.
I was thinking the same thing. Who is your favorite black
character? Who isn't black?

(01:22:35):
Hiccolo from Dragon Ball. OK, OK, OK.
What movie or TV show that is upcoming is on your must watch
list? Ironheart.
OK, OK. Do you want to see Fantastic

(01:22:56):
Four? New I do.
I do want to see Fantastic Four.First steps.
Yeah. Yeah, that movie, it's going to
be interesting. That's I have the same like I'm
this is going to be interesting and I'm just going to go in and
just erase the two other movies we had.

(01:23:17):
Just. Fresh.
I feel like they've made the fintech support even wider for
this new removed. Even.
Whiter, even whiter. Yes, yes.
Well, I mean, then I'm more excited because if they're even
whiter, that means that Reed Witchard is probably going to be

(01:23:40):
even eviler, so he's going to belike he is in the comic books,
which is why that just excited me more.
Since they're even wider, he'll be more colonial, which is more
true to nature. All right, what is your favorite
anime opening of all time? It's it's called Melissa and

(01:24:10):
it's from Full Metal Alchemist 2003.
It's from a group called Porno Graffiti.
I know porno graffiti, yeah. Yes, they made a They did the
first opening in My Hero Academia.
The day has. Come a lot of different
openings. I think they've done some artful
stuff too, right? Yeah.
Yeah, I love, I love that fan. I love that opening.

(01:24:32):
OK, OK, OK. Who is?
Oh. And I will be sending this to
Brent. Who is your favorite HBCU dance
squad that is not Ebony Fire? Can I plead the fifth?

(01:24:54):
No. No.
Oh and cat squad, I liked how they did the whole different.
They they danced. They also did flag.

(01:25:15):
I don't know if they also did petwine.
I had a friend on the squad, youknow, they cool.
I love them. Jerry, I think you think you
muted now 'cause we can't hear you.
There we. Hear you now, there you are.
I don't want to hear him laugh at me.
Right, He was cackling, wouldn'the?
He was. Cackling.
Over there. Wow.

(01:25:36):
OK, no, that's a safe answer. Yes.
All right, it's. OK, I I went through media
training with you guys. I remember my media training.
OK, when you. Fire your head Media training.
Wow, just. It was serious up in there.

(01:25:58):
Just just just play your horn. That's.
All I want to do. Kendrick Lamar or Drake?
Which side are? You, Kendrick, Kendrick Lamar.
I saw his concert. I saw him in Scissor GNX tour.
I am with Kendrick. How was the concert it?

(01:26:21):
Was so good. It was like like from, of course
you know, him rapping to the singing, the whole like their
backup dancers. They were so good.
Dancers are really good. What city did you?
See him in. In in, in Jersey.
Then it was at the MetLife Stadium.

(01:26:41):
OK, nice. You live in Jersey?
Yes, OK, it was good and like the the visuals were good.
He had like some like videos of like them in like a
confessional. It was shoot.
He played songs that featured Drake.
And I was like, oh. Yeah.

(01:27:04):
It was good, it was good. And he he did euphoria.
I wasn't expecting to do euphoria like that.
That was. Yeah.
So good. But yeah, Kendrick.
Yes. Did you see Beyoncé when she was
up there? No, because I spent money on
Kendrick and Tyler, The Creator.Next month I do not have Beyoncé

(01:27:27):
time, Beyoncé money. Yeah, we always have Beyoncé
time. It's Beyoncé.
Yes, we only have Beyoncé time, but Beyoncé money.
Yeah, that's a good friend. It's it's a good show though,
and it's she's worth every cent,but I ain't got it.
Absolutely, I and I want just don't believe it, but if I want
like a good seat because if it'sa Beyoncé show I want, I mean

(01:27:50):
any concert naturally I would like a good seat, especially
since she puts a lot of time andcraft into her stuff.
I need to be in the pit. I need to be in the pit.
I'm going to be in the pit, yeah.
And then there's the outfit thatyou have to wear.
It's just a lot, yes. OK, Tyler, so all the people out

(01:28:14):
there, you can e-mail your questions to
blackgeekenergy@gmail.com. You can all social media.
We're on spill, Instagram, Facebook, Blue Sky, TikTok,
YouTube, Twitch and Threads. Black Geek energy.
We are on Twitter at BGE under score pod.
You can listen to me play life with Marvel 1619.

(01:28:41):
We have two episodes up now. DeMarcus, have you heard the
first episode? Yeah.
I'm still working my way throughit.
Yeah. It's like, it's like a four hour
episode, ain't it? It's three hours.
Same old OK, still long as shit and it's on and it's like on
Twitch so it's not like one of my most convenient listening

(01:29:02):
things. OK, well you listen to all the
Critical Role and that's like. 'Cause it's on YouTube and
Spotify, Like I can just play itwhile I'm at.
Work and Dwight is that you alsoknow that we have a Patreon.
Yes, I did. I knew we had a Patreon.
Did you know it was only $3 a month?
Yes, well, if you do it not on Apple then it's $2.00 of course.

(01:29:28):
Did you know that that's only $0.10 a day?
I mean, that's math. So, I mean, you know, I went to
college and I graduated from college, so you could have.
Figured it out, but you didn't know it until I said it.
OK, yeah, I mean, cool. Fair enough.
Yeah. And hopefully coming soon we
will have an Etsy store. So hopefully, if I can ever sit

(01:29:54):
down to do it, then that'll be our next thing.
So another link and Tyler Karabits, where can they find
you at? You can find me on TikTok, Blue
Sky, Twitter, it's Kerabits, KEROBITS.

(01:30:18):
You can also find me on YouTube under Karabits and on Twitch
Instagram I am it's dot carabitsso ITS dot carabits because
someone took regular care of it so I lost my continuity is.
That a reference to like chabits.
No, Well, no. OK, I did well.

(01:30:42):
My favorite Sonia characters, Carol P and Carol means frog.
I love frogs and bits is actually kind of homage to like
my old Internet alias. It was a pH burgers.
So we're like, oh, like you bitea burger.
So like, let's just keep a little bit of that in there.

(01:31:02):
I don't want to be a pH burgers anymore.
OK, OK, OK. I remember that username.
OK, that's high. Tyler, you have been an amazing
guest. I have to say.
It's been so good watching you grow, watching you explore these

(01:31:22):
new frontiers and flourish in your new frontiers.
You were always a beautiful, gorgeous, well trained dancer
and I see that throughout your whole life now, even with your
cosplay, You know what? You want you execute it

(01:31:43):
perfectly and you succeed just like you're dancing.
So kudos to you and these peoplethat be saying this stuff.
Don't let them get you down. Just know that I can always say
worse. So if I'm not saying worse then

(01:32:05):
it doesn't even matter. Like please, at least I didn't
say it. But yes Tyler, you are a great
guest and we have to have you back sometime 'cause I wanna
hear. This is so fun.
Oh, this is a very. This is.
Fun do it is. Yes, yes, yes.

(01:32:28):
So the Marcus, do you have any final words?
Man, cosplay is great. I've only just gotten into it in
the past few years myself. You know, I'll be taking a lot
of notes from an old veteran, not that you're old, but you
know, you're you're a veteran inthe game, a lot of wisdom.
So I'll be I'll be following andwatching.
I'll be following and watching for some pick up some little

(01:32:50):
tidbits. And you know, hopefully there,
hopefully sometime in the future, there's going to be a
BGE cosplay. Yes, well.
What? What are you going to go as?
We can do Rick and Morty. I have a my next cosplay that
I'm going to do is Mellie Otis from 7:00 Daily Sins.
OK. I'm going to be doing that at

(01:33:12):
oh, what's it called? Anime.
It's an anime con in San Jose, not Fannie Mae, but it's a
different one. OK.
So yeah. So Jeremy, it's it's whoever you
want to do. We can do like a Rick and Morty.
We can do 2 out of the five Power Rangers.
Who am I going to be with Rick and Morty?
Neither one of those people. You can be Jerry.

(01:33:35):
I can see you doing, Jerry. Not a Jerry.
Is that a homophobic joke duringpride month?
No. No.
That's how we know you don't watch Rick and Morty.
We'll pick something. Else I do watch Rick and Morty.
I thought. I thought Jerry was that mermaid
man guy. No.
But you know who I want to Causeway us first?

(01:33:57):
Who? I'd say this like every So you
don't ever listen. I want to be the old 1945 Robin
with just the briefs, the tight little thing, the tight little
vest and the half cave. I can be Nightwing then, if
you're because that's a Dick, that's.

(01:34:18):
Is that a Dick Grayson Robin? So we're both going to be Dicks.
But. Jerry, does the dad OK?
Everybody have a good have a good day.
Thank you for listening. The mic is on my nerves.

(01:34:39):
I'm not Jerry. All right, y'all, thank you
Tyler again for coming on. Thank you for having me.
