disillusionment, the quietresolve to just sit back, grab a
glass of wine or coffee andwatch everything burn down
around us.

We have been through a lot overthe past few months.

let me ask you this what if wecould channel this moment of
stillness into strategy?
What if we could protect ourpeace and prepare ourselves to
move forward with audacity andprecision?
What if we could do that?
I think it would really changeeverything.

the fight.
That's not my goal.
You've earned your pause.
Take a pause, protect yourpeace, do all the things.
But I am here to challenge youto think about what's next.
How can we use this time toreposition ourselves, to refine
our strategy and really preparefor the opportunities that are

going to come?
Because, whether we like it ornot, the world is still moving
and, in all honesty, we got tomove with it.
So my hope is that by the endof this episode, you will feel
equipped to approach this shiftin landscape with more clarity

and confidence, and that's oneof the reasons why I wanted to
wrap up our mini series talkingabout where we go now, because,
to be honest with you guys, Ihave been really pondering that
question.

They say the odds are stackedagainst us as women, especially

But rather than wait for a seatat the table that may never
come, what if we build our owntables?
What if we channeled ourtalents into guiding each other
towards the success we deserve?

So, if you're just tuning in tothe Black Girls Consulting
Podcast, I'm your host, drAngelina Davis, and I want to
welcome you to this mini series.
This is a three-part series thatI have been doing that's
(03:20):
focused on being able totransform our collective trauma
post-election.
If you're tuning from outsideof the US, then we had an
election recently.
It caused a lot of upheaval fora number of different reasons,
and we've been talking about howto navigate much of what has
transpired and how we moveforward in the face of what may
(03:41):
feel like a sense of betrayal,in a way that allows us to
succeed even greater than wehave before, and this miniseries
has gone through the variousstages of grief and trauma.
We talked about the aspect,like I said, of betrayal.
We have talked about how toovercome that and come out on
the other side, and now many ofus are at this period where we
(04:05):
are really at a level ofacceptance, where we are
starting to figure it all out,recognizing that, listen, it is
what it is right, and many of usare sitting in this space with
even maybe I would say a littlebit of detachment, and that's
okay.
There's nothing wrong with that.
I can admit that I'm there too,but when we really step back
(04:28):
from the emotional labor of itall, of the struggle, it doesn't
mean that we have to give up.
What it does mean, though, isthat we need to be good about
prioritizing our energy movingforward, and I will say that
there's a lot of power in beingable to do that.
So, instead of just sittingback and being still, we need to
still have movement.
(04:48):
Sitting back doesn't mean thatwe don't do anything right.
This moment of pause can reallybe our opportunity to quietly
build, to lay the foundation forwhat's coming next, and we
don't need to do that with a lotof urgency.
We are not doom and glooming it.
There shouldn't be a sense offear or overwhelm, but I want us
(05:09):
to tap into a sense of clarityand intentionality, because this
isn't about jumping back intothe fray.
It is about asking ourselveswhat is it that we can do right
now to prepare for our next move?
The world may not be ready tomeet us where we are Listen.
We're accepting that.
We know we have work to do.
Things are much bigger than youand I.
(05:32):
There is a lot of room forchange and, prayerfully, all
that will be coming.
But despite all of that, whatdoes it mean if we don't give up
on our goals?
What would it mean if we wereable to come out on the other
side of all of this stronger,more financially stable and
(05:57):
secure, and with the ability tohave impacted and changed the
landscape of our industry?
All of that is still in ourhands.
We can definitely do all ofthat.
All of that.
So I want to talk about thattoday and I want us to put our
thinking hats on and beopen-minded when it comes to a
(06:17):
lot of this discussion.
One of the first realizations Ihad and where I want to start,
is that this whole electioncycle was really proof of power,
the power that we have.
Oftentimes, we get stuck inwhat many will call imposter
syndrome when we begin toquestion our qualifications.
(06:38):
We question what we know, wequestion whether or not we have
what it takes to succeed.
Clients and even a number ofcolleagues talk about their
struggles submitting theirresponse to request for
proposals and they get feedbackthat may be vastly different
from their colleagues, andthey're looking at it and
they're thinking to themselves.
I feel like I'm better prepared, I feel like I know more, I
(07:01):
feel like I offer a betterservice, I'm doing more, I'm
performing at a higher level,but, whatever reason, I still
need to get this certification.
I don't have this degree or Idon't have this recognition, and
therefore I wasn't able to landthe contract that I wanted and,
in all honesty, that's neverbeen the case, really right.
(07:26):
We can just look at what's goingon right now when it comes to
politics and our government,without going into great detail.
Let's just be honest.
We are watching so many peopleend up in positions of power
that don't have thequalifications, they don't have
the knowledge or the expertise,and they're still there, and
(07:46):
this is really nothing new.
It has never been the case thatyou needed another degree.
It has never been the case thatyou needed another degree,
certification or any other typeof document to validate your
brilliance.
You didn't need anyone toco-sign that.
You have already done the workand that work really does speak
for itself.
I know, sometimes it may notfeel like it and people may make
(08:06):
you feel as if it's somethingdifferent, but in all actuality,
that has never been the case.
Think of one thing you've beenholding back on because you
feared what someone may say orhow they may judge.
You Think of that thing, andnow I want you to think about
(08:27):
what would have happened if youjust went for it, because what I
want us to step into right nowis a new level of audacity.
Now, audacity isn't about justbeing reckless and being out
there thinking that you know itall and not putting in the work,
but audacity really is aboutknowing your worth and moving
(08:47):
accordingly, because the thingthat we have to remember is that
old systems might not recognizeyour power, but guess what?
It doesn't mean that powerdoesn't exist.
You have the tools to buildsomething great, something that
reflects your values and yourvision and your leadership.
You have that already.
You have that experience, youhave that knowledge, you have
(09:10):
that brilliance.
You don't need anybody tovalidate that.
You have enough.
I don't want to hear it anymoreyou second guessing and
questioning whether or not youare well-prepared.
You are.
Now, if you want to do extrabecause you need the knowledge
or you feel as if it will helpyou in your work totally
(09:32):
different conversation.
But to be able to check off abox.
No, we're not doing that.
You don't need to do that, andI think you have more than
enough evidence right now toknow that is the case Now.
The second thing is that ourlandscape has changed, and
because the landscape haschanged, we have to change with
(09:52):
it.
We have to be able to adapt andthink about this most when
we're talking about diversity,equity and inclusion, funding of
those initiatives and howeverybody was so engaged with
making sure we had moreequitable workspaces and that we
had an environment that wasmore inclusive, even if it was
(10:16):
by name.
There was some level of beliefthat this needed to be pursued,
and now we see the rules areshifting.
That now it's a bad word.
It's almost like a slur thatyou hear on the news, right, and
I want you to know that if youhave dedicated your life's work
in that area, it's stillimportant, it still deserves to
(10:39):
be supported, it still isimportant to many people out
there and that your business,that your consulting practice,
is still going to thrive.
While that is the case, thisdoes still mean that we have to
be strategic.
We need to think about how wecan navigate that change, how we
can take stock of what'sactually happening and change
(11:02):
our approach to it, andsometimes it's going to mean
that we need to repositionourselves.
Maybe it does mean that we needto pivot to some extent, but
although this pivot can happen,it can be very small.
It may be a shift in yourmessaging, or maybe a shift here
and there.
It could be a big stepaltogether, but the point is
(11:24):
that, more than likely, we'regoing to have to adjust, and so
I want us to do this with a veryopen mind.
It doesn't mean that we have tochange our focus and our
mission and our goals.
We just need to remain fixatedon what the end result is, that
we want, and then be flexible onhow we get there, because
(11:47):
pivoting, making a strategicadjustment, repositioning those
things are not about abandoningyour vision.
It's just about stayingflexible, being willing to adapt
, and really the most successfulbusinesses and leaders and
movements aren't the ones thatresist the change.
They're the ones that actuallyadapt and still navigate further
(12:07):
to get to the end result.
So, while this new landscape maybe a little scary, while it can
make you question some of whatyou have been doing and
wondering whether or not you'rehitting a brick wall.
You may get frustrated with howsome people may be responding
Not all.
I do want to stress that Notall.
You may be somewhat frustratedin how things are changing, but
(12:31):
know that you have control.
You have the ability to makeadjustments so that you can
still win in this space.
I want us to focus on that, sodon't be afraid of making
adjustments.
This is the time to do it.
Like I said, this is all abouttaking that quiet action.
(12:52):
We don't need to make a bigannouncement, a big to-do about
it.
You don't need to make a poston LinkedIn or on any other
social media channel.
You don't have to revamp yourwebsite into something different
.
Just make the shift, make theadjustments necessary for your
business to still succeed inthis new environment, in this
(13:12):
new landscape.
And then the last point I wantto make is that the one thing
the election cycle did and it'sbeen uncomfortable to navigate
is that it stripped away thefacade.
We're in a space right nowwhere we can see people's values
and beliefs and attentions alot more clearly now, probably
(13:34):
more clearly than we've everseen, at least in our lifetimes.
And while that transparency canbe uncomfortable and unsettling
and disappointing, it is alsovery powerful.
Why?
Because when you know whatothers stand, you can actually
make the necessary adjustments.
You can craft messaging andstrategies that truly do
(13:56):
resonate with what matters mostto people and I know you may be
thinking that I don't want toresonate with someone who is so
vastly different from my beliefsand core values.
And that is a lot easier to dowhen you're thinking about
one-on-one consulting or maybeeven working with a smaller
business.
But when you get into thesecorporate environments and
(14:18):
enterprises, there are going tobe a lot of people at that table
and they're going to all thinkdifferently.
They're going to all lookdifferently and guess what?
You're going to use that toyour advantage.
And the thing about thistransparency is that it's going
to help you see who you aretalking to and then what you
need to say.
You will better know who you'retrying to reach, what they care
(14:39):
about and how you can meet themwhere they are without
compromising your values.
I like to remind clients all thetime is that when you go into a
conversation in the meeting atthe corporate level and you may
even be pitching your servicesor whatever it may be you're
going to have people at thattable that disagree with you,
(15:02):
that are going to be opposed toworking with you, and you have
to still win them over.
You have to still present it ina way that, even if you don't
win them over, you win everybodyelse over in the room.
Therefore, they move forward.
You're going to have to stillwork with that person that may
feel some kind of way about youwalking in a room.
I've told the story many timesbefore about me having a client
(15:28):
before that I had to serve andconsult with, and I walked in
and they saw my black face andmy curly hair and I could see
the shock on their face and theywere not interested nor excited
that I was there as a blackfemale.
But, in all honesty, guess whatI had to do?
(15:49):
I had to still do the job.
I had to still show up and dothe work.
So there is going to be thosedifficult moments, especially
when you're working at thathigher level.
You're not going to alwaysappeal to everyone, but I want
you to focus on connectingdeeply with the people that
align with your mission and yourvision and then know how to
(16:13):
navigate those individuals thatdon't see eye to eye, and the
great part about it is that nowthere's a little bit more
transparency, you know a littlebit more about who may not
necessarily be on your team atthat table.
That's actually a powerfulthing to have.
Transparency is powerful.
I don't want you to look at itas a disadvantage.
(16:35):
It is actually literally aroadmap telling you what you
need to do, who you need to talkto and what you need to say.
So use it to craft yourarguments, your pitches, use it
to create the initiatives.
That's going to resonate withall the stakeholders at the
table.
I want you to use it to youradvantage, because that right
there is going to be one of themost powerful assets that you
(16:57):
have.
It's going to be your abilityto turn this transparency into
power, and I'm telling you it isextremely powerful if you use
it in the right way.
So when I think about where wego now, I don't just think about
us being at a standstill.
I actually see us using this asan opportunity to recalibrate,
(17:21):
to prepare to move forward withpurpose and power, because the
truth is that the world is goingto keep moving.
Whether or not we're ready isgoing to keep moving, but the
question is are we going to beready to meet the moment when it
comes.
So here's my challenge I wantyou to use this time wisely I do
(17:43):

I want you to build.
I want you to strategize.
I want you to move withaudacity.
You can do that while youprotect your peace.
I want you to move withaudacity.
You can do that while youprotect your peace.
I want you to do all thesethings because when the next
opportunity comes and it willcome, it's definitely going to
come you want to be ready toclaim it.

That's what we have to do rightnow.
That's what we do next.
That's where it's going.
