With neurodivergence, autism and Asperger Syndrome on the rise, there is much confusion about how to integrate these ‘diffabilities’ into a workable social model. Not fitting into our old neurotypical models of social behaviours and expectations can cause much trauma and emotional pain for those on the spectrum. Stress and anxiety can push them into alcohol and substance abuse, which means special gifts and talents may be lost.
