Are
you ready to take bold action
and live a life of brilliance?
Welcome to the bold andbrilliant podcast where women
leaders share inspiring storiesabout daring decisions that
shape their businesses, theirlives, and their careers.
Today, I'm bringing you amessage from my own heart and my
(00:24):
own experience.
Welcome to the Bold andBrilliant Podcast.
Today is a very interesting day.
We are on the eve of the launchof the bold and brilliant
podcast.
This is something I've beenthinking about and imagining for
years.
Ever since I became a speakerabout six years ago, I'm a big
(00:49):
fan of podcasting and of amazingpodcasters, people like Mel
Robbins, Brene Brown, JennaKutcher, marie Forleo.
These women leaders are peoplethat I follow who I've never
met, who I consider my mentorsin business and in life.
(01:14):
I've always imagined being inthe same space as them.
And this is my first foray, myfirst little step into that
world.
It's also a very momentous daybecause it's Monday, January
20th, 2025.
It's inauguration day and it isMartin Luther King jr's
(01:37):
birthday.
These events of today are alittle overwhelming, but what
I'm really excited to share isthat I feel empowered and
emboldened to share my messagewith you because the feeling in
(01:57):
the air out there in the worldhere in the United States.
It's a very mixed bag today.
And what is that allowing me todo?
It makes me think of whatmatters to me, what's important
to me, to my family, to mycommunity.
(02:17):
And the things that areimportant to me is that we share
our stories and that we shareour voices so that everyone can
understand each other better.
Now, being understood takes anopenness from the other side.
And if you're listening to thispodcast, you are the kind of
(02:39):
person who is open to hearingothers stories and perspectives
and understanding people.
So I'm really excited thatyou're here because we're on the
same page.
The way that I look at it, we'rehere to make a difference.
(02:59):
Whatever your politicalperspective, You're here to make
a difference.
We might not agree on what thatdifference should include.
But you love your family, youlove your community, and we're
here to make a difference.
So let's dig in to what I thinkmakes that happen as an
(03:21):
individual, especially a womanleader in business.
I'm going to share with you myframework for being bold in your
life and in your business.
These are four ideas that youcan take and apply.
To whatever you have going on inyour life.
(03:43):
If you have a business, a job, afamily, a partner, a friendship,
any of the above, these willhelp you to be more bold and to
stand up for what you believein.
Let's get into it.
Letter B stands for believe inyourself.
(04:04):
Of course we want to believe inother people, but what do we
need to do to stand up for whatwe believe in?
We have to believe in ourselves.
Believe in yourself means tobelieve that you are making
strong, right decisions for whatmatters to you, for your core
values.
My values include inclusivityauthenticity imagination and
(04:29):
many things that Uplift myselfand the people around me.
When I believe in myself, I'mable to bring those ideas and
that vibe.
To the world around me.
I was talking with my husbandearlier today about a situation
with someone that we know.
(04:50):
And he says, they're just likeyou, they want to support their
kids and help them get to thenext level of their lives, and I
felt really good because he sawme doing the things that really
mattered to me, which is tobelieve in myself and what I
think is right to raise myfamily.
(05:13):
So that was very fun.
Believe in yourself.
Letter O of bold stands for ownyour unique brilliance.
Own your uniqueness.
What is particularly specialabout you?
What quality do you possess?
(05:34):
What skills do you possess?
What do you have that is you?
I am enthusiastic.
I am optimistic.
And I'm also organized andorganized and goal-oriented
which means when I figure outwhat it is that I want, and I
(05:57):
know that I really want thatthing, I'm going to do what I
can to go after it.
This podcast is a perfectexample.
It's been a struggle to find thetime to learn the technology, to
bring the resources togetherover the holiday season.
And that's just passed in thenew year that has just begun.
But I really wanted to make sureto bring these ideas to you as
(06:21):
soon as I could put themtogether myself.
And here we are on the eve oflaunching the podcast so when
you own your unique brilliance, your unique gifts, not only do
you know what they are, if youcan embody that, then you're
going to be able to shine in anysituation that you're in.
(06:45):
Think for a minute, what is itthat you love about yourself?
What qualities do you possess?
Are you supportive?
Are you full of life, biggerthan life, lean into that, own
it for yourself and bring it tothe world.
(07:10):
Letter L of bold stands for leapinto discomfort, leap into
challenges, leap, take the leap.
I used to have L stand for lean, lean into challenges.
And you know, that's a littlepassive.
(07:30):
You're gonna lean toward them.
No, I don't want you to lean.
I want you to bend your kneesand give it all you've got and
leap into what you want.
Even if it's scary, even ifyou've never done it before,
even if you have no idea whatyou're doing, give it a try.
(07:50):
When you take a risk, most ofthe risks these days here in the
21st century I mean, yes, youcould leap out of an airplane
and something could go wrong andyou could die.
Most of the things we're talkingabout are leaps from an
emotional standpoint, wherewe're afraid of being judged or
thought less than or unworthy.
(08:13):
The thing inside us that keepsus held back is old like caveman
days where we thought that therewas a saber toothed tiger
outside that cave and we wantedto stay in the safety zone of
our cave.
But you know what?
If you leap out that caveopening, there's no tiger there.
You're not gonna die.
(08:34):
What's the worst that couldhappen is you could be
embarrassed.
You could feel judged.
You could, imagine.
What everyone else is thinkingof you.
When you imagine what they'rethinking of you, you don't know,
you don't know what they'reactually thinking.
And why do we put so much weighton what other people think of us
(08:58):
leap into the discomfort ofstanding your ground of
believing in what you want andgoing after it, regardless of if
you have any idea how to do it,get help.
We.
are afraid to ask for helpsometimes, but even more scary
(09:19):
than asking for help isaccepting help.
Does that hit anyone?
Feel emboldened to ask for helpand accept that help.
We are not meant to do this lifealone.
Leap into the discomfort ofgoing after what you want.
(09:43):
And finally, D stands for dreambig and then dream bigger
because when you can dream big,you can achieve big.
If you dream small, not onlywill you achieve small, but you
might not achieve at all becausewhat you're doing is just
(10:03):
staying safe.
Not taking action at all.
That would be nice, but that'smore of a fantasy, and
imagining.
And that's not like that dreamthat's in your gut that you
deserve to have because it'sthere within you.
So let's go after it.
(10:25):
It wouldn't be there if itweren't for a reason.
What dream do you have that youjust have no idea?
It sounds impossible.
Have you ever told myself, no,there's no way that I could do
that.
I can't.
That's not going to happen.
Even though somewhere inside youthought but it would be really
cool if it did.
(10:48):
What if it did happen?
What would life be like?
What would be different for you?
I had a mentor many years agowho did this.
I was invited to go to an eventacross the country.
I had two little kids, soloparent.
(11:09):
And she said, What if you went, what would it look like?
Wow.
Take off work.
I'd have to do this air flight.
I'd have to have someone watchmy kids.
I'd have to do this and that.
And it's impossible.
Well, is it really impossible oris it just maybe a little
overwhelming and you need tobreak it down?
(11:32):
And so I did break it down andthought, wow, I could ask for
those days off.
I have vacation.
They'll live at work without mefor a couple of days.
This was before I was coachingand working a job.
I came up with a way to leveragemy family's support to really
(11:52):
tell myself, really what it camedown to was deciding that it was
something that I really wanted.
And when I made that decision, the dream became a goal, right?
That's what goals are, is whenyour dream becomes a decision
(12:14):
when you make a decision relatedto your dream now you have a
goal to go after.
I went to that event and itchanged my life.
This is actually how I became afull-time coach so I'm telling
you dream big.
Dream even bigger.
Don't shortchange what dream isin your head.
(12:35):
Don't tell yourself it's toobig, no, dream big and then
bigger so you can achieve big.
Is that exciting?
Believe in yourself.
Own what's unique about you.
Leap into the discomfort of theunknown and Dream Big so you can
(12:57):
achieve big.
Today of all days, This is a daywhere we can imagine what is for
us.
How do we want the world to takeshape?
What do we want ourrelationships around us to be
like?
How do we want to support thepeople who need help?
(13:17):
How do we want to lift up thepeople who are crushed?
How do we want to become theabsolute best version of
ourselves in our lives, in ourbusinesses, in our communities,
in the worlD?
My friends, this is how wechange the world.
(13:38):
We believe in ourselves, we ownthe things we bring to the
world, we leap through thediscomfort to implement the
things we are imagining in ourlives, because we know that the
things we're imagining will helpother people, they will help
ourselves, they will help ourfamilies, and we will all live a
(14:00):
more bold and brilliant life asa result.
