never expected to ever be theJewish party Maven, but 4400
parties and 26 years later, I amindeed an expert at Jewish
parties. I am fiercely committedto helping the best vendors,
book more parties in thisamazing, lucrative and

(00:46):
incredibly loyal Jewish market.
So let's go. Have you heard thequote? Life is 10% what happens
to us and 90%? How will youreact to it? How are you
reacting to COVID? What are youdoing to grow your business this
week? Well, you're showing uphere, which means that you are
still learning still working tounderstand more about your new

(01:09):
Jewish clients. Yes, your newJewish clients today? Yes, COVID
is still here. But if you lookat all this free time as an
opportunity, you'll open up to awhole bunch of new options.
Whatever is out there might beeven better than what you had
before. That part's up to you.

(01:34):
Fun fact. Did you know that inAmerica, there are nearly 7
million Jewish people. That's alot of weddings and Bar Mitzvah
celebrations. Jewish people knowhow to party like rock stars.
They have the most epic parties.
Here's some more stats for you.
If you're wondering if youshould get into the Jewish

(01:56):
market. There are 48,000 Jewishweddings every year. 30% of
Americans have college degrees.
But 60% of Jewish adults arecollege graduates. Only 10% of
American adults have advanceddegrees. But 30% of Jewish
adults have advanced degrees. Wehave some smart clients. Jewish

(02:17):
people have an amazing sense ofhumor, too. Did you hear the
joke about the first Jewishpresident? His mother was
sitting in the front row of theinauguration ceremony. She looks
over at the woman sitting nextto her and says, See that man up
there about to become president.
His brother's a doctor. Alright, let's get back to business. Why

(02:40):
should you trust me? As I said,I've helped over 4400 Jewish
celebrations. Yes, you heardthat right. 4400 parties. So
I've learned a thing or twoabout Jewish parties. And still,
after 26 years, I learnedsomething new, nearly every
party. So if you already booklots of Jewish parties, good for

(03:02):
you. There's still likelysomething in each and every
podcast for you. If you are newto the Jewish party market, then
this podcast is just a startingpoint. Welcome. Stick with me,
and we will grow your business.
COVID is coming to an end. Myphone's been ringing. Clients
are calling to book parties inJune and July and August. People

(03:23):
are so very excited to becelebrating again. As happens
almost every week, a clientasked me yesterday, who's the
best photographer who's the bestvenue. As always, I explained to
my client that having someonewho understands their Jewish
customs is huge. It's reallyimportant. You only get five

(03:44):
hours to celebrate. There is noredo. There is no retake. If you
fail to capture those importantphotos, there is no option to go
back and get it later. Towardthe end of this podcast. I will
talk about how to get you on theJewish party mavens certified
vendor list churching. So thankyou for listening to this

(04:07):
podcast to learn some moreJewish vocabulary. This week is
called Word of the Week. Solet's get started with our new
word. hora. We will do this theJewish party Maven way. We will
say it we will see it and we'llsave it in your brain by using
it. Like I said this week's wordis hora. As with any use Yiddish

(04:27):
word, it has several spellings.
But the most common spelling ish for Harold over orange are for
re A for apple hora. h o r athumb people say horos Some
people say hora, h o r r h itall means the same thing. So see

(04:50):
it with me. hora hora horabecause this is actually a
dance. I'm going to go into myDJ friends again. Add a little
louder. hora. Yep,you got this. So what is a hora?
Well, it's certainly not aCanadian Lady of the evening. A
hoary a hora is a customaryIsraeli dance, in which the

(05:15):
guests form a circle and linkhands around the couple. I've
had several DJs over the pastyears invite people to come and
do the the hoorah. Oh, you gotto get this one, right. If
you're going to work a Jewishwedding, you need to know how to
do the hora. So step two, let'ssee it. I told you, we would say
it, see it, save it. Now thatyou know how to say it is time

(05:38):
to see it. You can do this. Haveyou ever played those memory
games where you visualizesomething so you can remember it
later? Stay with me here. Thisis an important skill.
visualization can be really fun.
It works best when you visualizeobjects that have personal
meaning to you. But here on thispodcast, I'll give you the cues.

(06:00):
So picture this, clear yourbrain and picture this. You're
nervous. worse. You're scared.
In fact, you are horrified. Allof the guests at your wedding
are going to dance in a circlearound you and lift you up in a
chair. You are horrified. Imean, hora FIDE, horrified. Can
you remember that? Going up in achair is horror fighting to you

(06:21):
see how easy that was? Justthink of the horror and how
horrified you will be raised upin that chair when everybody's
dancing around you. Don't worry,I got a freebie to help you
remember this week's Word andmore. Check out the show notes
to get my powerful cheat sheet.

(06:42):
A Jewish party mavens 12 Jewishwords at the best vendors now.
Now step three, let's save it,save it in your brain by using
it. The hora is a traditionalIsraeli dance performed at
almost every Jewish wedding.
Guests form a circle and holdhands while dancing around the
new couple. Most times when thecouple are lowered in those

(07:03):
chairs, the groom's parents getraised next, then come the
bride's parents. Sometimes evensiblings get raised in those
chairs. As a venue. It's reallyimportant to have chairs with
arms for the horror. I've seenway too many brides or grooms
fall out of the chairs as guestsare dancing around. Those chairs
should be lightweight, butstrong and sturdy. with arms to
clust internet consideredknotted together in the corners

(07:26):
and draped over those chairs.
The couple hold on tightly tothose napkins when they're
lifted unevenly in the chairs.
As a band, it's important tounderstand the pace of the hora
The most common song is having agala. It starts out slow and
ramps up quickly. You willlikely need to play the role of
emcee directing guests to formcircles and go left or right. It

(07:47):
should be fun. You'll also haveto read the crowd to determine
when to end the horror filmweddings have a three minute
horror film lots of weddingshave a 12 minute horror film 30
minute horror, it all depends onthe crowd. I once worked with a
band who had never performed thehora they started the music way
too slow, and it was terriblyawkward for everyone.

(08:11):
Eventually, of course, they gotup to speed. But then they quit
way too soon. Way too soon. Justas the crowd was getting going.
The family was verydisappointed. They don't get a
second chance. Just because theband didn't take the time to
learn the Jewish traditionscorrectly. They put a big damper
on that celebration. You mylisteners can do better. Thank

(08:32):
you for being here. Let's wrapthis up. This week's word is
horror. Say it horror. See ityou will be horrified to be
lifted into the chair. Save itdance the horror in circles
around the new couple as youraise them up in the air in
tears. Mazel Tov. You learned anew word, and you're one step

(08:55):
closer to gaining the trust ofyour new Jewish clients. Yes,

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
