Speaker 0 (00:00):
Welcome to another
episode of Boost your Visibility
.
Thanks so much for being here.
Today we're going to talk aboutfive hard truths, and I come to
you with this podcast becausethese are common themes that I
run into as I'm working withsmall business owners and social
media managers.
They're things that I've workedwith myself, worked through to
(00:20):
get from overwhelm to moreproductive, ultimately having
more time at the end of the dayso you can actually have a life.
That's my main goal with goingthrough this list of five ways
that you might be holdingyourself back and five ways that
you may be getting in your ownway.
So, number one when you look atyour marketing, your social
media you know Instagram, facebook, all of your posts are
(00:42):
they Canva creations andannouncements?
Are they just pictures ofwhat's new in your store?
Are they simply pictures ofsales and that kind of thing?
Because if that's the case,it's not about you.
That's the title for this.
Number one is it's not aboutyou, it's about your customers
(01:03):
and we lose sight of that.
The busier we get, the deeperwe get into our business.
We just need to get messagesout there and we lose sight of
the fact that Sarah is out there, you know as an amazing
customer who happens to love topurchase scarves and rather than
just showing a photo, how doesthat work in Sarah's life?
(01:23):
Can she tie it around her neck?
Is it something that you knowis a cool sleeve, sort of a
scarf?
Is it a hair tie?
Are you showing the featuresand benefits of your product or
service so that people canrelate?
If your best customer's name isJeff and you own HVAC company,
is Jeff going to respond if yousimply put out we do free spring
(01:49):
prep for AC, or is it gonna be?
Let's take this off your hands, make it like easier.
We'll make sure that your airconditioning is ready to go for
that first warm day.
Do you see how I did that?
You just reverse it from.
What our instinct is is to justget the message out there of
what we offer, but flip it intomake it about the customer and
make it really relatable.
(02:09):
That's where the goal is.
Number two proactive versusreactive.
A lot of things that we do inbusiness especially when, a it's
really busy and B if numbersare down, we maybe don't have as
many leads or feet in the dooris to get reactive with our
marketing.
Throw out a sale, let's do asale right away.
Let's do a whole week ofspecials rather than slow it
(02:30):
down to speed it up, meaning.
Let's look at, maybe, where thegaps and cracks are that are
preventing people from coming in.
Maybe there's a little problemon the website that we didn't
see.
Is there something that,marketing-wise, that is a trend
right now that we should hoponto?
Are photos doing better onFacebook than on Instagram?
Maybe we need to do more ofthat, which, by the way, right
(02:53):
now, in this moment, photos aredoing almost as well as reels on
Facebook.
On Instagram, it's morecarousel posts and reels that
are performing the best.
It's a little bonus, okay.
So number three is and this is atough one can you lift your
head up to see what's actuallygoing on around you in your
business, or are you too deep init?
Are you too deep in yourbusiness to really just see what
(03:17):
needs to be done on a biggerscale?
Maybe who you need to have inplace that you don't know?
You haven't even realized?
Are you not taking the time offthat you should Although I know
it's easier said than done,it's gotta be said if you're not
rested and at your best, howcan you be at your best for your
business and all the peoplethat you impact, whether it's
(03:38):
employees or customers orpotential customers.
People are very smart and theysee when someone is, you know,
not feeling their best ormarketing is kind of sluggish,
people pick up on the undertones.
Even if you don't show yourface or have your voice on any
of your marketing, people knowit.
You create the joy, you createthe sparkle.
(04:00):
You're the one that brings thatinto your brand voice and if
you're too deep in your business, you can't.
So maybe it's time for a day ora weekend off.
Maybe it's time to delegatesome tasks to someone else just
for a few days, so that you cantake a breather, just think
about it and if there's any wayyou can do it, I highly
recommend it.
That leads to number four ishaving the humility to identify
(04:24):
when you're overwhelmed and sayit and do something about it,
and to learn If you are not atfull overwhelm and there are
other areas that you need towear the hat.
To learn how to do something.
You need to have the humilityto face it, to accept that maybe
you don't know it all, althoughas business owners, I know we
all I'm guilty of it.
We all like to think we know itall.
(04:45):
We have the answers.
Yep, I know.
Yep, I know.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, you don'thave to know it all, and it's
important.
It's actually critical to thesurvival of your business to
identify when you don't know itall and you need to find other
resources to bring in or to tapinto to be able to do a better
job.
Whether it's a social mediamanager, whether it's a graphic
(05:06):
designer, maybe it's cleaning, maybe somebody needs to come in
once a week and just do a deepcleaning of your space.
Maybe it's at home, havinggroceries delivered, rather than
taking those two hours to getin the car, go get your
groceries, pick them up, bringthem home, put them away.
So are there areas that you canfind the humility to admit that
you need a little help and tryto find ways to make that happen
(05:29):
.
Number five is delegating.
Delegating sounds easy if youhave, you know, a big business,
but to someone like me, it'smostly just me or to a small
business, someone that I knowhas three employees, it's not
easy to delegate becauseeverybody's at their capacity of
what they can do in a day.
That's where a virtualassistant comes in and the best,
(05:51):
smartest decision that I evermade was to hire a VA for video
editing.
Video is where I got stuck themost.
I was way deep in trying to doall of my other tasks, do them
well and try to learn and dovideo editing, which, even if
you're at the top of your gameas a video editor, it takes time
(06:12):
, and that's time that took awayfrom me being able to do things
like this, where I'm able toreach more people and help more
people, which is my North Star,my number one thing that I want
to do is to be able to help morepeople like myself and like you
.
So delegating is a part ofhumility and if you think that
it's time to delegate, don'thesitate.
I wish that I would have hired aVA two years ago and I just
(06:36):
felt like you know the money, all that goes with it.
Is it going to take a lot of mytime to train this person, the
person that is editing thisvideo?
His name is Jesse and he'samazing and he's so good that he
helps me to stay organized andaccountable.
So there are benefits to havinga counterpart or some help in
other areas and that takes theoverwhelm away and helps you to
(06:59):
be much more productive.
I hope this was helpful.
If you think that it has been,I hope you follow this channel.
I hope that you subscribe tothe podcast, leave a comment and
give a review if you wouldn'tmind, and I look forward to
talking to you in the nextepisode of Boost your Visibility
