surprises. Presents for everybody. We got, glen karen
glasses to actually use for our tasting this
time from care. No. I guess. What's the
story behind skyler? Wait. There's some mistake because
mine is not engraved. You get tom. There's
a lot of commitment that comes with en
ing glass and. And I wasn't ready to

haven't got your name right yet. So
you have an earth, I guess, the name
Jim Yet. I guess, I guess it's a
good thing. I didn't get.

So fern Glen Karen glasses,
if if you're out there, if you've if
you've ever never heard of War. Yeah. If

you've never heard of them before. They're they're
meant to enhance the experience of tasting whiskey.
So what they do, They're little bulbous at
the bottom, They kinda come up to a
to a
more of a...
I don't know. I guess you'd say it's
a flute
sn.
Okay. It's that how we would say that.
Our tapered neck, I guess you could say,

but what it is is with with the
bulb at the bottom and then the tapered
neck that it comes up to, that helps
kinda capture a lot of those. Smells, the
aroma that we talk about, all those things
that we look for when we're looking for
a good whiskey when you when you hear
people say oh, I get you know, I
get fruit or I get dried leather or
I get the rye or that kind of
thing. So that's what it's meant to to

do and help. And then it has a
a little flare rim on it too
that the nice thing about that flare rim.
And you know, interestingly, I've I've I've done
this before. We were we're gonna taste some
whiskey back during in Covid to, help,
Mike Kelly get some stuff in at beach
liquor.
And
we ran out of whiskey glasses. So I

ended up with a brandy glass.
And so everybody's talking about how, you know,
the smell that they got out of everything.
Oh, it smells like this. It smells like
that. Whiskey And I'm just dying every time
I try to take a sniff. I mean,
all I can sub smell is pure alcohol.
And again, it's because of the design of
the brandy glass. Right? It's it's designed to
come in and keep all of those aroma
in the brandy needs, the Cognac, all of

that, all in there, so you can smell
them. And Glen Karen
kind of flares at the top
around the ram that helps blow off the,
those alcohol vapor.
Alright, that I had a robert and Was

They they were killing me, man. They were
kidding
now the the wide bowl at the bottom
allows you to, get some of the swirling,

so you can really appreciate the the color,
the vis,
all of those types of things. And then
again, very solid base at the bottom,
and really why the the solid base and
the tapering on it is it's meant to
you should hold it. By by the bottom
base, not not by the neck tom. I
thought it that was so I didn't break
it. I thought I was saw didn't tip
over because the more permanent drink the harder

rate is to say glass down. That's for.
That's hard. I should hold Tom by nick.
Just wow.
But but anyway, The bottom is it it's
you to hold it that way, so that
your hands not actually warming the whiskey as
you try to drink it. Because as we've
as we've talked about with different whiskey and
stuff, for the temperature of the whiskey can
actually change the taste of it. Right? Some

of the con that are in there,
your the heat just from your hand can
overheat, make them evaporate.
That's why you don't wanna put an ice
cube in immediately because the ice cube
lowering the temperature can actually solidify some of
those and actually pull them out of the
flavor profile. So there you go. There's your
there's your little bit of a lesson today.

for for anybody looking for them, you can

not terribly expensive.
Lord knows. I did not spend a much
of money on these guys.

choice for Bourbon. It's used by master blenders,

Great for single malt and irish whiskey as
well. Any of those types of whiskey where
you wanna get those complex flavors and everything
in. They're about 4 and a half inches
tall, and it comes in
in some variations, you can either get lead
crystal lead free crystal
or there's even some soda lime glass. Out
there that where they have the Glen Karen.

And some people can argue the different type
of glass wear can change the taste as
well and blah blah, But let's face it,
y'all don't. Y'all have palettes like that. So

stuff like that. Yeah. I. I thought it

was pretty cool. He was showing it to
me the other day. Basically, you you take
pictures of of the labels. And then it
tells you, hey, like this is common.
You know, this is usually what you can
find it for. Hey, this one's rare, or
this one's a unicorn. Like, it's, you know,
really hard to find kind of a thing.
Yeah unicorn. Yeah. And then it gives you
the, the the part that I didn't like
about it quickly is then it it estimate

the value of your entire collections. Yeah. And
I I just don't want anybody know now
quite shake cost.
It's And I certainly don't wanna scan the
empty bottles to realize how much I've spent.
It doesn't share that from it. You never
remove the bottles.

You know, the bad thing about rum is
the the headache that comes along That that
sugar. It's a lot of sugar. Yeah. Exactly.
So as much as I like the rum,
I do have to limit it. Because III

And then Skyler, I know he's drinking more
bourbon every day. I, you know, I constantly
get reports from him. He comes in all

night. That's gonna say I'm to making purchase

Now, I'd I drink Bourbon when he's telling

Tom, I brought back a couple of models
of rum from Columbia. Did you can try
banana 1 and they regular. Let's dig in.

we call it Bourbon with the boys, but
we can call and rum too. Yeah.
1 night. Every now and again. Yeah. I
gotta tell you know, a little bit of
time that I sent. Spent down in Central
America. The rum down there is freaking phenomenal.
Some of them could. Yeah. Yeah. Some of
them are fantastic. Because that phenomenal with like,
a capital?
I I didn't go to fantastic.

That was the point. Yeah.
What So today, we're gonna come back after
the break. We're gonna get to that break
right now. But today, we're doing a old
forester statesman. This 1 I came right out
of the
collection right over to my right.
We'll talk a little bit about it. It

is a it is a straight bourbon.
It's, you, been around forever. Old forester is
1 of those brown brands that dates back
to 18 seventies. So right after the civil
war made it through prohibition and all those
fun things. But We'll talk more about it
right after
after this break.

so anyway, in our in our little glen
karen's there. Now, 1 thing we were talking
about at at break if you wanna get
real fancy about it when you pour it,
you get a little glass.

Like a glass lens or Eye to put
on on top of it to kinda capture
everything in there and just kinda hold some
of those aroma in and everything. So you
get that first. But
anyway, it's, again, old forester. This is
this came out July 20 17 and and
and ongoing releases.
I'm not sure the bottle that I have
here today says what

(12:48):
what year
production this was.
But it is
it it's distilled only by,
Brown Foreman, which is the company there.
Is proof at about 95 proof. Now the
master bill is 72 percent corn,
18 percent rye and in 10 percent malt

(13:08):
barley. So
from that match bill, you know, right away.
It should be a little
little sweet, that rye is gonna give it
some of that peppery fresh cut grass.
Fill and everything. But
if you guys want to, go ahead take
a take a little sniff, tell us tell
us what you think, whoever wants to jump
up there.
That's good. I like that.

(13:31):
Mh Good flavors. Yeah. What do you. What
do you get what do you get off
of it anything? I mean, like in immediately,
I noticed that? Wow like a cherry and
a brown sugar little like yellow of. With
the smell, I get a little pepper. I'm
haven't tasted it yet, but I get very
peppery, but I do see the I do
see the cherry, Do smell the little cherry
there. Yeah. Yeah. Anybody get get anything up

(13:52):
else from it from... If the Gym gets
his nose in that glass anymore. He's gonna
on. So so that's what you... What you
should do is you wanna you wanna tip
it at about 24
24, 25 degrees. Right? And then get your
nose just 24.
That sounds like 27.
27 back.
If you pour in your lap, that's 90
back up.

(14:14):
K.
But this board kit.
Yeah. Yeah. Sure. Poured all over the new
board Skyline.
That's that's.
Yeah. I
I get in. Caramel. Yeah. Ton of caramel.
A lot of caramel. I get I get
a lot of brown sugar, cherry, I, like,
dark cheer. Even you can get a little

(14:34):
bit of the yolk in there. Anybody tasted
it yet?
About 4 times. Yeah. Yeah. I done yet?
Oh, wow.
And good good little hug at and. You
you definitely get
more of the
of the cherry and sugar

(14:54):
in the in the top of that palate.
Like there definitely tastes much sweeter than it
smells to me. It does. Yeah. It smells
like it's gonna be very high rice,
peppery, but when you taste it, it's nice
and sweet and smooth.
Yeah. It's I mean, I even get a
little more
like banana and caramel.

(15:18):
You guys are...
It's right along. Like,
hearing you describe. It's like a rock. That's
what I would. I was just seeing you're
laughing. I mean, the vanilla, the brown sugar,
the banana, the caramel. Yeah. Now that finish
though, it's it definitely tells you. It's not
a rom with that finish ring. It does.
It jumps in there.
But it it it tastes good. I mean,

(15:39):
it's got a good taste to it. I
don't get.
I think gold Forester gets a bad name
sometimes. I don't wanna say bad name, but
It's just... It's been around so long. It's
like your grand dad drinking everything else. But
they are all good. Yeah. But your grand
dad drank it for 2 dollars a buy.
Right? That's true.
Well, you can drink it for free in
the Delta Sky lounge to.

(15:59):
Hey. And now, tom, if you had to
pick 1 adjective to describe this.
You have something you'd go with. It's not
fantastic. Yeah. That's the window
That's fantastic.
Alright. Now I did I did also get
the Glen Karen pipe at. Right? So I
get the pipe there. If you wanna use
that, you can drop a thought that was

(16:21):
for something else. No. No. It's wanna a
crack.
I use that to drop to hit a
couple of drops of water into it, the
water helps
dissipate a little bit of the alcohol and
let you get to some of those phones
more. So you... Why would you want that?
Well, again, it brings out some of the
flavors a little bit. So if you wanna
give that a try I can't really... Well,

(16:42):
I see it or reach it. I'm not
I've not seen it used. So there's a
there's a small hole in the side here.
Okay. Right? So what you do is you
you dip it in the water, you can
put your finger over the hole. If I
can... I'm trying to reach over my computer
and do this at the same time. You'll
be And then what you do is you
just pull your finger back to allow just
a couple of drops in,

(17:04):
and then
Yeah. There you go. Okay.
And so those couple of drops of water
will dis again. It did kinda just soften
the ethanol a little bit, alcohol in it.
Sometimes it allows more flavors to come out.
And now if you don't have 1 of
these at home, you can always use some
turkey pastry. Yeah. An eyed drop her or
turkey based. Yeah on Yeah. All the all
the all the things work to drip those

(17:25):
keys over the top of it. Some people
stick their finger in it and flick a
little bit of water. And I'm not getting.
Some people, you know, because it's considered to
flick a water. That's that's way they used
to hit it back in the day.
You know, I'm I'm probably gonna need to
order some more pipe at, so we don't
have to pass this around and the seeing
the error of those ways, again. Yeah. Using
somebody else's pipe.

(17:46):
It's really
bad warm. Just filled. Bad for terrible. Yeah.
You know, I'm really just trying to class
the place up what I know tom that's
trying trying to do that here. Color coded
pipe, please.
So I know which 1 is mine. I
definitely feel like you changed it. It definitely
changed it. Yeah.
And now I'm thinking we need... 2 glen
carrots because I'd like to have the 1

back with an outlook 2 drops water to
compare them back and forth. And I'm sure
you want that 1 engraved to you. Yes.

I learned something the other day about taste
and whiskey and bourbon and stuff like that

you know, if the harsh is something that
you don't like.
Once you've once you've tasted it, don't take
a breath right away.
Go ahead and swallow it and
exhale.
And that way, you won't get that harsh
that you get sometimes with the whiskey and
the bourbon. Mh. No. I didn't know that

I haven't thought about that, but certainly makes

I I gotta tell you this is it's
not bad. You you look at it. It's
got a a nice good mahogany color in
it. It it got some good legs on
it. If you, give it a little swirl.
You can kinda give it a swirl and

then kinda tilt it to the side and
watch it, watch it run down, you'll see
there's some nice
long legs in there. Now Skyler, if you
keep putting water in it, those legs aren't
gonna work. But, I got, like, 1 on
times so Trying to launch it burned down
my throat breath.

Yeah. Was been ways easier here. And something
you don't really think about. But because of
the small amount that we're actually in these
classes.

Yeah. It's certainly taste smoother than it smells
though. Yeah. Yeah. It's, you know, again, at
95 proof, you're not expecting it to be
much. Now.
I'm not a proof chief sir. We've got
a few friends that are with taser that
it's, you know, all about... It's gotta be
a hundred and 20 per proved to be
at bourbon.
Good good bourbon it's just good bourbon. That's
right. It concur. You know, I I said

around... I I used to have a bottle
of old carter here.
Because somebody brought it as a gift, and
I didn't didn't really realize what it was,
just tasted it and thought it was excellent
So started telling all my friends. Hey, y'all
should come over here and try some of
this. This stuff is really great and about
my third glass in on the bottle.
I realized it was, like, a hundred and
30 plus p.

And I said, oh, man, I'm gonna have
to buy another 1 of these to have
everybody come over and taste it, looked it
up online and found out it. It was
about a 700 dollar model.
The immediate texted everybody and went none lied.
It's gonna say, Let me guess. You didn't
buy a bottle yet. They no. I did
not. I did not. That was that was
a wonderful gift, and absolutely. But that's what

ended. And it is how gone on to
to the great bourbon. Hall in the sky.
Yeah. So
1 thing you don't find around here is
a bunch of full bourbon glasses waiting to
her bourbon bottles waiting to be drink. So
well, Scott, where where are we on time?
I think we're we're we're kinda getting there
for, like, we're out ready to wrap this
thing Yeah. It is it about that time?

So, guys, any any final thoughts on the,
Old Forester.
Retail price is about 55 bucks on this
1, So it's not gonna break the bank.
It's good. Good middle of the road pricing
wise. Apparently Bobby does work in radio anymore.
I said it wasn't a bad price for
Bourbon, but
and my kid, you know, he if he
wants to go to college, he's gonna get

(21:37):
a scholarship. So yeah we got. You... You
not touching a decent bottle mer in front
of.
50 dollars. With with a few exceptions out
there There are some exceptions out there, but
thanks, Brandon.
Yeah.
Thanks. I remember when you a bottle the
bourbon for 20 to 40 bucks. Yes. Now
it's yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's 50, But there's

no inflation. No inflation. No. No age statement
on... This 1 again, we know that it
was
first released in July 20 17. It's an
ongoing release.
It's estimated to be somewhere around a 5
or 6 year. I I gotta tell you
for... I think for the depth and the
complexity that it is,
I don't see it. I it's it's definitely
gotta be, you know, it's over 4 years.

I know. I wouldn't be surprised if it
was a 7 year old. Like Said I've
not been disappointed with a single old forester
from their their standard 1. It is a
20 dollar bottle Yeah. To their, yeah a
hundred and 15 dollar bottle or a hundred
and 30 dollar bottle. They're all good. Yeah.
Some them are hotter than others, they have
a little different profile, but they're all good.
Yeah. So
we'll go around the table. We'll start with

you, Tom is would you buy it yes
or no? So can you buy something you
have again? Yeah. Absolutely. I like it. Yeah.
It's sounds good. Got a good time a
model in my collection, and I well. What?
