Tiera Strand, a 25-year-old mother from Austin, Texas, vanished on April 16, 2023, after a night out on Sixth Street with friends. As she worked to complete her GED, Tiera dreamed of joining the Navy to forge a better future for herself and her daughter, despite her family's expectation that she would follow a path in cosmetology.
That evening, Tiera and her friends stopped by the Mooseknuckle Pub in the "Dirty Sixth" district. Surveillance footage captures her involvement in a heated fight, first inside the bar and then outside, where a group of women attacked her. Witnesses last saw her running away barefoot, leaving behind her purse, shoes, and phone. One friend caught a glimpse of her heading toward Trinity Street but quickly lost track of her.
Five days later, authorities discovered her body 70 miles away near Temple, Texas. The autopsy raised more questions than answers—no visible signs of trauma, no drugs in her system, only alcohol present. Decomposition likely concealed any evidence of injury. With an official cause of death still undetermined, investigators now treat the case as a homicide, deepening the mystery surrounding Tiera's disappearance.

The Burden
The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole.
