Speaker 1 (00:01):
In a country this big, you need a few rest stops.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
We've got some of the most isolated roadhouses in the world,
hundreds of kilometers from the nearest communities wherever you're pulling over.
From the iconic pink roadhouse in Udnadatta to flash inner
city servos, there's nothing more comforting after hours on the road.
And there's one thing they've all got in common, bloody
good grub. I'm a Malta Kawa missus brainfuel great of

(00:31):
his stories from the Road, fueled by Ample, Australia's own.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Roadhouse.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Food has come a long way since I was a kid.
I always liked obviously, big fat, greasy chips and a
dripping ice cream that my parents just loved on the
car seats. Not exactly five food group stuff, but you know,
it was the seventies.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
But that's me. I'm not your modern day foodie type.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Alice zzlovskis She's written cookbooks, it's a regular TV guest
and has her own food range, but she still rates
resttop grub.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
I'm Alice Aslavsky, author of In Praise of Vege and
road tripper from way back. I grew up as a
road tripper. My parents are just prolific road trippers. Every
road trip memory is wrapped up in some little place
that we had to stop along the way because we
ran out of snacks. The best pit stop snacks are

(01:27):
the ones that don't leave a mark on the car.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Like I said, Alice is a connoisseur.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Nuts it good, a salt and vinegar, ruffle, pizza shapes,
chicken shapes, start, acute shapes, oh, tropical fruit. I would
choose the Ba Marie option. Why not? Who dares wins?

Speaker 1 (01:44):
See what I mean?

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Reindeer pastrami.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, eating great food doesn't have to mean going to
a fancy restaurant.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
I get really excited, you know, if I see some
saucy looking stir fried vegetables in the Ba Marie.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
In far North Queensland, some roadhouses have fresh mangoes. Head
into New South Wales farm country and you might find
a steak on your plate.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
The options are endless.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
L cheese, very good, a banana.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Whether you're stopping somewhere brand new or calling into an
old favorite, the rest stop is an essential part of
any holiday.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
What I hope is that people are seeking to create
memories at every point in their road trip, even if
it's just stopping over to have a snack, I hope
that they're thinking, what new adventure can I take.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
From visiting roadhouses or whatever your journey, ampole is the
fuel that gets you there. Make sure you follow our

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
