Speaker 1 (00:21):
Hello, Hello, Hello, welcome to another episode of Brahlah While Black.
This is your Thursday episode of brah Bah While Black.
And it would be hilarious if this was the second
time that I was recording this because I recorded thirty
minutes on mute last time. That would be hilarious. But
that's not the case. Actually, that never happened. That would
(00:42):
actually be really like stupid of me not to check
to see if the mic was on and be completely
confused when I can't get it to work. I would
never do something like that, especially as a rookie. And
I would never then decide to write down all around
(01:03):
me to make sure that the mic is on from
now on, because that would just be common sense, you know.
Naturally as a professional on podcast you you would you
would check to see if the mic is on, right.
(01:25):
But the good thing about hypothetically recording something for the
second time is that you're a lot more informed and
you can hit all the points that you wanted to
hit that first time. Right, So here we go. Yeah,
So how are you guys? How has your week been?
It is almost over with, y'all. I don't even know
(01:46):
what time y'all getting this episode, but it will definitely
be Thursday, because you know this was This was not
the second time I had to record something. Yeah, that
would be crazy. I hope that your week has been grand.
We are in the end game now, baby. It's October.
(02:08):
Miss Taylor Swift's album is coming out tomorrow. Congratulations and
shout out to my Caucasian family. I hope that y'all
have the time of your life. I hope that this
is old Taylor so I can enjoy some of it too.
I hope that maybe she brings some of Red Taylor back,
(02:32):
like I read some Even if she decides to do
a little bit of speak Now Taylor, I would absolutely
love that. But nonetheless, even if it's not for me,
because not everything is for everyone. I am excited that
people are excited about this, so I hope that you
guys are having the time of your life preparing for
(02:55):
Taylor Swift Eve. I actually will be doing the show
tomorrow and putting it out on Friday, so I'll have
the time to kind of like go through it and
see if there's any flavor in it for me personally.
I know that there are events across the nation in
movie theaters to celebrate the life of a showgirl. So
(03:17):
I'm excited. Baby is engaged, Baby got her rights back.
Baby is a billionaire. There are no ethical billionaires, even
mine in your faves, because what do you need a
billion dollars for unless you're a person of color because
you're technically a five hundred millionaire because you had to
(03:38):
work twice as hard for half as much, so it
doesn't count many. Yeah, I hope the album is good tomorrow,
you guys. I also am still a young thug fan.
I don't care what he did. Y'all didn't have any
sympathy for Jericha when he did all that shit to Jericha,
(04:00):
So why should we have all this sympathy for Mariah Sorry,
you did the same treatment that because Jericho wasn't an
artist that you know in love and a light skinned woman,
she doesn't get the the and she held thug down
before and during when he was thug. So his new album,
(04:24):
I wouldn't say that it's amazing, but it's it's pretty good.
I uh won't get too deep into that. But should
I to him swag too? I have listened to, but
I haven't gotten into, you know, into it the way
that I got into swag One yet because I think
(04:45):
I'm still digesting swag one. Like when you put Marvin
Winen's on a Justin Biever album, it just becomes a different, spiritual,
you know kind of thing. He announced that he is
performing at Cochella. Me and my he talked about this.
Good for him. He would be a great super Bowl performer.
(05:06):
But we don't need that right now. We need Bad
Bunny Baby, We need ben Needo Baby. We need the
owner of get performing. Shout out to everyone in South Florida.
You know if you know, you know, you know, you know,
you know, we need the owner of Get Go performing
(05:28):
at the super Bowl. Like Baby, I'm a dust up
on my dual lingo. My hair is gonna be curly.
You see how I You see how I'm in my
Alt girl era because it's October. I mean I did
get this hair due in September, but you see how
I'm in my Alt girl hair right now. In February,
I will be pulled a Ricken and the words of
(05:50):
Ts Madison poored a Ricken that day, like I don't care.
I don't even want him to say hello baby. Open
it with Olah, Open it with a remix of swab
of mine. Okay, open it like baby, show out. I
(06:13):
am so excited for bad Buddy, but this is not
that kind of episode. This is gonna be actually a
nerdier episode. So if you're not into nerdy stuff, just
leave me on play, put me on on one, and
just let the rest of this episode play out so
I can get the downloads. Help me out. I'm independent,
love you, thank you. Uh, we're gonna be talking about
some nerdy stuff. First of all, let's get into where
(06:36):
we're going. We go into the comic shop. We go
into the comic shop. Where we're going. We're going to
the comic shop. Uh. There's this woman, her name is Cheyenne.
She has raised a Kickstarter fun of I think it
was over two hundred thousand dollars to start a comic
book series that's on YouTube. It's called awkward Virgo TV.
(06:58):
So everyone makes sure you subscribe to awkward Virgo TV
and make sure that you are watching the episodes or
if it's not your cup of tea, which I can't imagine,
because if you like Abbot Elementary, then you like that.
Maybe I want to talk about Abbot tomorrow. If yeah, tomorrow,
for sure. She kicks out her fun because she wanted
to make a show about basically a black woman who
(07:22):
is literally owning a comic shop, and that is gold
because black people love nerdy shit too. And I was
reading this interview with Complex Geek. I think it's called
I don't know. It was a slide show that she
(07:42):
collaborated with them on, and it was like she got
nose from networks that she was pitching to because they
didn't think that black people would understand the references black
people who play all day, black people who make nothing
but references. Black culture is literally nothing but references, especially
(08:11):
when you are roasting people, when you are cussing someone out,
when you are dissing someone, the first thing they do
is go in their geek bag and say that the
person looks like a cartoon character. Have you never sat
down and like really listened to Black people and what
(08:35):
they say when they're joking, when they get mad, like hello,
the amount of times Star Wars gets referenced the amount
of times in my life anytime someone that got into
a fight, they'll be like, what is this power ranger
ass and a good doing? Like what do you mean
(08:56):
that black people wouldn't understand or support geeks culture. We
are a geek culture just as we are everything else,
or even if we aren't necessarily because we don't get
nearly enough representation. We are literally people who are forced
to We're one of the only cultures who are forced
(09:17):
to watch other people's animations and designs and movies and
not see anyone that looks like us. But we're able
to still sit there and get to know this anime,
(09:37):
get to know this cartoon, get to know this manga,
get to know these books, get to know whatever it
is and still reference it and make it relevant to
black culture. So that was the craziest thing from that interview. Guys,
literally insane, as I was like talking about how black
people aren't a monolith and we can be interested in
(09:59):
multiple and we would actually also be interested in nerdy
things threads, which you guys know, I'm all up and
down threads and a lot of people that come on
here who are also black who are also into nerdy things.
Shout out to my cousin Kendrick. Definitely make sure you
(10:24):
are downloading with Kendrick Tucker. Obviously following with Kendrick Tucker
with I cannot buy Kendrick Tucker. I'm saying it like
this because I know he gonna beat my ass for
not texting him for a few days. But I'm going
through like a lot right now, and we always disappear
on each other and we like have that understanding. But
(10:45):
after this, like I'm gonna have to text her now.
I want to face the music, baby, because I just
watched Fantastic four, which is nerdy. But Lenna, get back
to my point. I literally just like was talking about
how black people and I wasn't even just talking about
myself and Aaron and Kendrick and Raven even are talking
(11:10):
about how like we love nerdy stuff, we love comic books,
we love superheroes, we love you. Hear it all the time.
And I was interrupted because Threads actually invited us to
collab on a post where they are shouting out people
who all talk about TV on Threads because they've introduced
(11:34):
a new feature called community, and it's basically like these
little communities that you can enter and you talk about
whether it's TV threads, whether it is Marvel threads, DC threads,
or Superhero threads. There are different categories that you can
enter and it's available for some people, but it's rolling
(11:54):
out slowly and you can talk about these specific things.
So if you want to get away from certain talks
and you want to just talk about, like, for example,
nerdy stuff all day, you can with communities. So shout
out to Threads who has acknowledged us. It's such a
blessing to be acknowledged with along with Aaron, because we
(12:18):
love nerdy stuff. And that brings me to The Comic Shop,
which is a show on YouTube that started from a
Kickstarter campaign and it's about a black woman that co
owns a comic shop with one of her best friends
and it is hilarious. It comes out every Friday at
eleven am two pm EST. And I just finished binging
(12:39):
the last three episodes and I can see big things
for this show. The last three episodes also like included
so many different funny like references. I love the T
shirts to fashion mean things. If you are a comic
book nerd, you would be able to probably identify some
(13:00):
of the comics. I personally can't because I'm more into
I wouldn't say comic books. I'm more into super heroes.
And that is a little bit new for me because
it's only been since twenty twenty since I started taking
it seriously, and I ain't really really started taking it
seriously till like twenty twenty three. And I still stand
by halle Berry's Catwoman being the best catwoman. Zoe Kravitz
(13:26):
is also pretty good. Michelle Pfeiffer is a great catwoman,
don't get me wrong, But like for me personally, halle
Berry was camp. It was comic bookie. It was who
needs ba this is not? Is it called Batman or
is it called Catwoman? Love Ryan Bailey though, but yeah,
So they were saying that the black community would not
(13:48):
understand the references, so she decided to put her on YouTube.
It's hilarious. It includes a lot of people that are
famous from the Internet already. I know that in one
episode they were playing dungeons and Dragons. Well, first, the
first episode has Christina Ariel on it, which is the
reason that I know about it. So shout out to Christina.
She is what I want to be when I grew up.
(14:10):
The only thing is I live in Florida, so I
don't think that I will have these opportunities and I
wouldn't be able to move because my whole life is here.
It's hard to explain. Yeah, I'm here, I'm here, but
maybe one day, who knows, You never know what might happen.
But Christina Ariel, I'm I'm a big fan of hers.
I'm interested in whatever she does. She was on the
(14:31):
first episode, and then there's an episode where they played
dungeons and dragons for this guy's birthday that works there
at the shop. And Kiera Please. Y'all know Kiera Please
from Instagram, from cosplay, maybe from a Netflix podcast, maybe
just being a content creator in general. Kiera was on
the show and I'm a huge fan of hers and
(14:54):
Snitchery these I don't know if Snitcheri's real name, but
I know I think that I would hope that Kira
Please's real name is Kierra. But Kiera and Citchery period
best black women cause players like insane. They're on a
level that I wish that I could be one day.
And maybe it's because I'm too scared to do what
(15:17):
they did, which is literally just start with what they
have and then build their way up. So maybe, I
don't know, we'll see you by the end of the month.
It's also how the funds is looking. But at the
same time, they use what they got They had talent
though also and they also had each other. So I
don't really have someone who's into causeplay in that way.
But Kierra Please was on an episode. Christina Ariel was
on an episode. The cast is solid, it's hilarious. They
(15:41):
have pop culture references. It is something that anyone can enjoy.
It reminds me of a elementary And the main character, Stephanie,
she actually sounds like Issa Ray Like, she sounds exactly
like her. It's so funny. It's so proud of that.
So please support that if you can. I just want
to bring that to your attention. And then I wanted
(16:02):
to talk a little bit about jen V. Gen V
is a spin off of The Boys. Y'all know that
we covered it in the past. I don't know if
we did it week to week, but I know that
both me and Aaron talked about it. But this last episode,
(16:24):
like every episode has been because I did a three
episode drop at the beginning. Then it's been weekly since
this is episode I believe five, and I'm already thinking about, uh,
when this ends, we're gonna have the way what another
two years? Uh for another you know? Like well, no,
(16:44):
because The Boys has already filmed it. It comes out
next year and it's gonna probably head straight into the boys.
But still, Sajan b it's so good. So it's about
this blood bender. She is black. She's a girl from
Sabrinana teenage, which she is a blood bender, that's her superpower.
She killed her parents when she got her period, and
(17:06):
she was separated from her sister. So since the first
season she's been going to this university that is pretty
fucked up, and in this last episode we finally find out,
like well, we finally meet her sister. And it's basically
this entire season has been based like kind of on
X Men. The god that's the main antagonist I guess
(17:28):
you'd call him is both Charles Xavier and Magneto at
the same time. Like his powers are like Charles, but
his mission is like Magneto, and basically he just wants
superhuman supremacy. He basically just wants I think that maybe
(17:48):
he might either want to use her as his next
body because basically it's Arian and Grande's ex boyfriend bach
Me and bach Listen, Nanessa Nessa, I've got something to
confess the reason why. Okay, I will say he ate that.
(18:09):
I'll give him that, but I don't like what he
did to his baby mama, but that listen nessa anyways,
So he is playing Thomas Godowkin. This is Godkin University.
This is a guy that was basically like an inventor,
a scientist in the fifties or sixties. And he is
burnt up baby toasted like a pop tart, a burnt
one level five that you forgot about because he just
(18:33):
wanted to get it nice and melty and crispy, and
it was a strawberry and look shake one and it's
hard to find strawberry and look shape pop tarts. Anyways. Okay,
so he's burnt up, and he's using his son's body
to basically be in his body, and he's training Marie
to use her powers. And I don't want to give
(18:54):
it away because I want you to actually watch the
show because y'all heard us cover the boys, right, should
already be on GENV baby, and my goodness, he killed
her sister to see if she could bring her back.
So we have just realized that Marie not only can
(19:18):
blood bit because she was made to be more powerful
than Homelander, who's the most powerful soup on the planet,
but she can also revive someone from death. Black Woman.
(19:39):
It's crazy. It's crazy the way she finds out, it's
crazy the way she does it. It's crazy that they
took that risk. And then when you see, Oh, I'm sorry,
I gotta spoil this, when you see who's behind it,
Sister Sage from The Boys, her freaky ass is back
on the show. Her freaky ass is hunching the shell
of a human that Tom's Kodokin has telepathically taken over,
(20:08):
and it's insane to watch. That girl is a freak
in the best way. So shout out to that actress, like,
maybe one day I'll be would have talked to her.
I don't know, anything's possible. You guys trying to be delusional.
Gen V is so good. It just makes me sad
every time they talk about Andre because he passed away
in real life in a motorcycle accident right as they
(20:30):
were filming season two, and it's just hard to even
think about because he was also so fine. He's also
from Sabrina the Teenage, which that was on Netflix. That's
a good spooky watch. It's scarier than Wednesday. You think
Wednesday Evil Wednesday Show ain't got nothing Sabrina the Teenage
(20:53):
witch child and I don't know if I mean that
in a good way or a bad way, but yeah,
I just didn't know what I was getting into when
I was watching Sipping at the Teenage, which because I
was just following it from Riverdale, I just thought it
was a little Riverdale spin off and that shit. They
surefooled me, but I stayed with it because that's just
(21:13):
the kind of person I am. Anyways, last nerdy thing
I want will not last, but next to last, because
it's a little I'm really trying to keep this to
a bite because I want to go and watch The
Golden Bachelor, which I told y'all to watch because he
is a black man, insane to think about. And I
(21:35):
want to watch Dancing with the Stars, and I want
to rewatch Abbed Elementary, and I obviously need to catch
up on Miami. Anyways, of Peacemaker is so good, which
is what we got posted about on the Threads collab
(21:55):
that we will have on our Instagram. I was talking
about Peacemaker on Threads because James Gunn does a watch
on Threads. I think the Monday after Peacemaker airs and
this was literally just for shits and giggles because I
can't really talk to people on Instagram about it because
(22:15):
they don't really watch Peacemaker. But I was like, I'm
going to force, I'm going to find my community, and
I went to threads and I tweeted at the same
time that James Gunn was tweeting and Jennifer Holland, who
plays Hardcore, which I thought her name was hard to
Core for the longest time, and they made a hilarious
(22:35):
joke in the episode about how a lot of people
thought that her name was hardcore and it comes on
tonight too. Actually, oh my god, so much to watch.
That's why I love the Fall. You guys, you don't understand. Okay,
So Peacemaker is so good. He is now realizing that
he is in the bad place. He is on Earth X,
which apparently I don't even know why this exists. I
(22:56):
guess I won't question it. Earth X is the place
where the Nazis are, and there's apparently also even a
Nazi superman, but they haven't confirmed it yet at least,
and I hope that we don't see a Nazi superman
because that would really hurt my feelings. After after seeing
The Sweetheart Baby, David corn sweat as a nice because
(23:16):
I'm a punk raka, Yes, I am like a corny ass,
like real Superman Superman. That would really tear me apart
to see a Nazi Superman like I don't. I don't
think that they should do that, but we got to
see Lex Luthor. I tweeted about it, not tweeted. Ooh,
threaded about it. Twitter doesn't exist, but yeah, I threaded
(23:38):
about it and talked about it. Jennifer Holland, the actress
that plays Hardcore, She liked some of the threads. I
would love to talk to her. I'd love to talk
to James Gunn about some stuff because he also spoke
to the actress. The Oscar winning actress Danielle Brooks who
plays in Peacemakers. She plays this wholesome character called ads
(23:58):
at a Bayo Leota at Abayo, and she ends the
episode by running away because she I don't even know
why she would go for that walk, but she decides
to go for a walk on Earth X and this
is apparently where they have everybody locked away, everyone of
color locked away, because I noticed that shit straight off
(24:20):
and she is literally ending the episode running away from
Peacemaker's brother Keith, who is dead in the other reality
but is alive in this reality. And James Gunn spoke
with Danielle Brooks about the script because he wanted to
handle it a certain way. So should you do you
(24:42):
should speak to a black woman to see how this
would work and see how you should approach it and
all that, because that is very scary and very triggering
because that is actually and obviously they they filmed this
last year, so they obviously didn't know how bad things
(25:03):
would be this year, but that is not far off
from reality. When you are a black person in a
completely white neighborhood in America, depends on the white neighborhood obviously,
because you know, I live in a predominantly white well,
I don't know, because I live in a Jewish neighborhood,
(25:24):
so they're also downtrodden a little bit too. They know
what it feels like and they are like the neighborhood
that I live in is like Jewish and Hispanic and
also black, so it's pretty mixed. But I have been
(25:44):
onto the other side, which is Davy, and Davy is
a part where they still have those Southern flags, the
Conservative flags hanging and it is giving Mallory. It smells
like Jim Crow and the words of Mallory and you
just want to take off running. But can you run
(26:05):
fast enough? That's what we're going to find out on
this new episode of Peacemakers. So that's a pretty good
show because you get to see John Cena in a
completely different light. He's on his last tour as a wrestler.
I knew him as a wrestler first, obviously thought that
I was going to marry him. Caroed a John Cena
backpack in high school because that was just my man,
(26:25):
my man, my man. I did not give a fuck, Like,
look at me. Some people look at me and they're like,
I can't really figure her out because she, especially with
this hair, you can kind of tell that I'm a
little bit alt and a little bit nerdy with this hair.
But if I have my regular hair and then my
makeup is done, you're like, oh, that's just like a
(26:46):
staink gass, like brower bitch. Basically. Then I open my
mouth and it's like, oh, she's one of those girls
who want to be white. It's not like a white girl.
And then I open my mouth and it's like, no,
I'm just a human person who is a black woman
that has many interests. And lastly, guys, they got me,
(27:07):
they got me, they got me. I went from K
Pop demon Hunters to business Proposal on Netflix to the
Flagrant Flower Blooms with Dignity on Netflix. I don't even
know how I got there. And then now I find
myself on crunchy roll and this is not even a
(27:29):
paid ad. Baby, they don't even know I exist. But
hopefully they might be able to see this and give me, like,
at least a sponsorship. I would love to have a
crunchy roll sponsorship, but at least just give me a
free profile. But I found out if you go on
a best Buy you can get a crunchy roll free
trial for a month for zero dollars in zero cents.
(27:51):
If you sign up for crunchy roll right now, you
will get a seven day free trial and then you'll
get charged. But if you go through best Buy, you
can get one for zero dollars and zero sense. So
I am literally watching anime. There's this one called My
Dress Up Darling, and it's literally about this really nice
(28:11):
boy and this really nice girl. But the girl is popular,
and it's just a xenax for the soul, Like it's
something that you put on in the background. You can
pay attention to it if you want to. If you
don't want to, you don't have to. I've gotten over
to the subs and dubs and all that. You know,
I gotten over it, Like it's fine. I can listen
to dubbed audio now and not care that it doesn't
(28:33):
match the words. But it's an anime, so it doesn't
really matter. And it's just so wholesome. It's about this
guy who makes dolls because his grandfather made dolls, and
he has been bullied for making dolls, even though they're beautiful,
like beautiful, beautiful dolls, like beautiful gowns. But anyways, and
(28:55):
this girl, she's a cosplayer, so she enlists him with
helping her with her cosplay. And you learn so much
about cosplay in this one show, like how people literally
change the shape of their face, how people buy professional makeup,
how people set up lighting and camera angles and change
(29:17):
into like because if you see serious cousplayers, not just costumers,
which is me, like I would be a costumer. Serious
cosplayer is maybe a hot glue gun and some fabric
and they are that character. And it's the same thing
with the girls on drag Race. Shout out to the
girls who can sew no tea, no shade. But they
have all these tricks and things that you don't know
(29:40):
that when you see a professional Cause player and you're like, oh,
that's how you have turned into this character it's called
my dress up darling. It is so wholesome, it's so sweet.
It's so interesting, especially if you have ever been into
cosplay or want to get into cosplay, or just want
to learn more about cosplay. You learn a lot from that.
Like she Cause plays so many different characters and it
(30:04):
is so cool, and then I want to, you know,
find another one that is just very calming. They tease
each other with a lot of respect. It's very foreign
to me. It's different from the animation here. The closest
animation of American animation I can say is probably, and
because it's based on the comic book again is Invincible.
(30:24):
I remember that one episode of Invincible where they go
to the convention and they talk about how in certain
animations they do this and do that, and they'll just
put you know, they'll put their mouths off screen, or
they'll turn the character to the back so they don't
have to draw out things, or they'll pan over a
scene and no one is actually moving, but it looks
(30:47):
like they're moving. Invincible is the closest thing that I've
seen it that. But yeah, you guys definitely check that out.
I love you so much. I will be back literally
tomorrow to talk to you tomorrow. So I hope you
enjoyed this. If you did not, I will be back
tomorrow to talk about and a ray of other things.
Make watch Abbot, Elementary, watch Peacemaker, watch The Real HOUSEWIVESE
and I love you, Bye,
