Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up y'all?
Dj EST another episode ofHonest Wedding Advice right here
, 2025.
We are in February and todayI'm talking about a DJ
performance.
Does a DJ really need toperform at your wedding or does
a DJ need to play the rightmusic?
It's a huge question.
A lot of people are paying for aDJ to go out there and set

(00:20):
their soundtrack for theirupcoming event or their event
that they're having that night, depending upon what part of the
planning process and stagingprocess you're in.
Most djs you know they juststand back there and they're
behind a facade and they pushsome buttons and you hear what's
going on and you dance and it'ssort of like I don't want to
use the word spotify or applemusic because that's not what it

(00:43):
is but they're back thereputting together a soundtrack
for your day and you are thecenterpiece of that soundtrack.
Then there are what we callperformance DJs and those are
the DJs that either don't use afacade or stand out in front of
their facade so you can seeeverything that they're doing,
and those DJs are usually mixedturntablist or guys who use

(01:06):
control vinyl or guys who usemotorized platters and are out
there and you can kind of seewhat they're doing as they're
doing it.
So it's a more of a.
It's more of a show than it is.
You know, like last night Iwatched the grammys and if you
guys did catch the grammys lastnight, there are singers but
there are accompanying dancersto go along with what's going on

(01:28):
.
Now some people just stand upthere and they play their
instruments, like Billie Eilishwas amazing.
She doesn't need dancers, that's just who she is and she's
beloved because of it.
But you know, between likeDolce and and Sabrina Carpenter
and Chapel Rowan last night, youknow a lot of what they did was
a show.
You know that big pink ponythat pink pony club skit

(01:52):
wouldn't have been the samewithout that big pink pony out
there.
Dolce's Dolce lookalikes thatwere everywhere were amazing.
And Sabrina Carpenter's funny1930s vibe that came all the way
up to the 2025 vibe and all ofher dancers and how they
incorporated everything intothat, like that was so wretched.
I mean that that was justratchet, that was just cool, you

(02:13):
know, I mean so there are a lotof different ways to go about
this and it just depends on youand what you're looking for for
your DJ or from your DJ.
You know you can have a guy thatcomes out there or or a girl
sorry that comes out there andputs on a show and is part of
your show and it's sort of likea performance where you're
watching something andexperiencing something at the

(02:33):
same time and you're a part ofsomething.
Or you can be on the dancefloor and there's somebody back
there who's DJing, but it's notreally a piece of what's going
on in front of you.
So it's like having a band orhaving a front man and they're
not really contributing to yourdance floor or to your vibe
other than musically and acouple of things on the
microphone, versus guys who comeout there and dance around with

(02:53):
you and spin records and andare really part of your show and
their difference between aperformance DJ and I don't know
what the word is.
I mean I don't want to say aregular DJ, because that's not
true, it's not really it'scalled a regular DJ.
But you know, when you go to afestival overseas and you see
somebody like Deadmau5 or theSwedish House Mafia or DJs from

(03:17):
Mars or guys like that or evenlike Diplo, like you see a show,
I mean it is a show thatthey're putting on, where a guy
like Jazzy Jeff, god man, jazzyJeff, I'm from Philly.
I mean, that is God to us.
You know he is more of a.
You know he's just a guy thatjust plays great music, knows

(03:37):
how to mix, and he's not outthere dancing around.
I mean, he's just jazzy fuckingjeff.
I mean that's what he had willsmith for, or vice versa, that's
what will smith had jazzy jefffor.
You know, I'm the dj, I'm therapper, I'm the mc, I'm the dj.
So you know, it just depends onwhat you're looking for.
I am a perform, I.
I am a performance dj, Iperform.
Now.

(03:58):
Can I be a behind the thefacade dj?
Absolutely so.
I am what we would call in thefootball field, um, or a
football game, cause the Eaglesand chiefs are coming up Diehard
Eagles, fango birds.
Uh, you know I can hand theball off, I can throw a bomb
down the field, I can manage agame, um, I could take the game
over.
You know, I am multiversal.

(04:20):
I am the Heisman trophy winningum, starting first round draft
pick.
That's me, and that's onlybecause of my skill set.
You know trent dilfer in back in2000, if you guys remember this
, uh, when the baltimore ravenswon the super bowl.
He didn't have to do muchexcept manage the ball.
You know, their defense dideverything and trent sort of won
the super bowl just by notfumbling.

(04:41):
And, um, he was really good atnot fumbling.
I mean mean, his job was tocall snaps, hand the ball over,
dump and ditch and not drop iton the ground.
And that's what he did and theywon a Super Bowl because of it.
So there are numerous ways ofgetting to the finish line.
It's just a matter of whatyou're looking for at your event

(05:01):
and how you want that DJ to getto that checkered flag.
So great advice, I.
