Filed in 2019, the lawsuit claimed that Spotify streamed Eminem’s music without proper authorization. However, the court ruled in favor of Spotify, primarily because 8 Mile Style did not send a cease and desist letter despite having years to address the issue. Harris believes this decision was justified, as the publisher missed opportunities to voice their concerns if there were legitimate grounds for the lawsuit. He expresses hope that such frivolous lawsuits will decrease in the future but acknowledges the need for accountability among streaming services.
