Today I'm your host, samanthaBell, and this is the Brilliant

(00:27):
Business, beautiful Life podcast.
Are you ready for the businessand life of your dreams?
Let's get started, because Istarted the Brilliant Business,
beautiful Life podcast to helpwomen build the business and
life of their dreams.
This week on the podcast, I'mstarting a five part series
called Startup Success, and it'sspecifically for women who have

(00:50):
not started their business yet, because not everyone is at the
same stage of business, and partof my mission is to also
support women who are in theearly dreaming stages, because
you've got to start somewhereand sometimes you just need a
little bit of extra help.
I'm super passionate aboutgetting women out of a life that

(01:11):
they just put up with and intoa life they love, so I hope that
the next five episodes aregoing to help you do just that
if you're at the stage whereyou're just starting to think
about starting your own onlinebusiness, so let's jump into
making the leap to freedom froman employee to an entrepreneur,

(01:36):
and it really is a dream worthchasing.
So if you're in a nine to fivejob, working for a set salary
and you're getting two to fourweeks, and you'll leave each
year a few days a year whereyour employer allows you to take
time off if you're sick, whereyou have to ask permission to
leave early to go and pick upyour kids or go to a doctor's

(01:57):
appointment, you probably feellike your time is not your own,
that every day you arecontrolled, you're constrained
and you're told what you have todo.
And most likely, every morningyou wake up feeling trapped,
feeling hopeless and frustratedby the same nine to five grind

(02:21):
and you think to yourself well, that's just life, isn't it?
But do you ever dream of more?
Do you ever daydream about alife where you jump out of bed
with excitement because you lovewhat you do, a life where your
income isn't limited to whatyour employer is prepared to pay

(02:41):
you, but where you have thepotential to earn as much money
as you've ever dreamed of, whereyour time isn't spent building
someone else's dreams butnurturing your own, where you
can go pick up your kids go tothe hairdresser or go to the
movies whenever you like.

(03:02):
Well, if that sounds like you, you're not alone.
So many women find themselveswondering what am I doing with
my life?
And they want far more thanjust a paycheck at the end of
the month.
They crave to be creative, tohave a sense of fulfillment, and
they've got a big desire tomake a difference in their lives

(03:24):
, in their kids' lives, even inthe world Plus.
They want the freedom to livetheir life however they want to,
and their daydreams they takethem off to a place of
possibility and incredible joyand deep satisfaction.
Now, that's a dream worthchasing, isn't it?
And it doesn't just have to bea fantasy.

(03:47):
It doesn't have to stay a dream.
If this sounds like you, you'redreaming of having the life of
an entrepreneur, and it's ajourney to true freedom and
fulfillment, and it really hasthe potential to change your
life in ways you cannot evenimagine right now.

(04:08):
I used to be stuck in thecorporate world, wasting my life
away building the dreams andthe profit margins of other
people and corporations, but oneday, enough was enough.
I had wished and dreamed aboutmy dream life for so long that
it was finally time for me tostop dreaming and start doing.

(04:28):
And it was after oneparticularly gruesome day at
work where, yet again, I had putin so much time and effort but
nothing was ever enough.
They just kept wanting more andmore of me.
You know, I was even workingback to 10 pm some nights and
they still wanted more.
The more I gave, the more theywanted.

(04:49):
They were just insatiable formy skill set and my time and it
was sucking the life out of me,sucking my soul.
And it was actually a day wheresomething very simple happened.
It wasn't a big event, but itwas actually literally the straw
that broke the camel's back.

(05:10):
Someone said something verysimple and it was simply
something like Samantha can dothat.
And for so long I had beenputting all my creative energy,
all my skills and knowledge thatI had honed and developed and
studied for over 30 years tomake their business amazing.

(05:31):
And I finally realized theywere just takers.
They were taking way too muchfrom me, but I had been allowing
it.
I had stayed there, allowingthem to treat me in this way and
to just keep expecting more andmore and more blood, sweat and
tears from me.
I became resentful andfrustrated.

(05:52):
And then it was in that momentwhen someone said to me or said
about me oh, samantha can dothat.
That frustration and exhaustionand resentment I was feeling
told me it's time this stops.
It was in that moment, whensomeone casually put another
thing on my plate, as that wastheir right, that I made the

(06:16):
decision that my time was nowand I left.
It was the best decision of mylife.
Instead of wishing and dreaming,I actually stepped out of the
rat race into my CEO shoes andfollowed my own path to my
freedom and my independence.
Now I have the joy of waking upevery single morning with a

(06:41):
smile on my face because I lovewhat I do.
I've actually got a life wheremy income potential is limitless
, where my time is spentbringing my own dreams to life,
where I can help other womenachieve their dreams and enjoy
the rewards of designing my ownlife instead of having it
designed for me.

(07:02):
It's wonderful, and this is thelife of an entrepreneur, and
you can have that life too.
All you have to do is decidethat it's what you want.
Now there's an entrepreneurialspirit inside most people.
It's that little voice thatwhispers to you.
Isn't there more to life thanthis.
What else can I do?

(07:23):
And it keeps pointing youtowards your dreams and it
really stokes the fire in yourbelly that's burning to make a
difference, to create somethingmeaningful and to live your life
with purpose.
It really fills you withexcitement, you get butterflies
in your stomach and feel giddywith all the possibilities and
you can actually feel thefreedom as intoxicating.

(07:45):
And that's your entrepreneurialspirit telling you it's time to
lift the lid off your box, toget out of those four walls that
are stifling you and holdingyou captive.
And, oh, my goodness, it is thebest feeling and something you
need to listen to.
If the call is strong enoughand if you do embrace this

(08:05):
spirit of adventure and promise,it's the first step towards
transitioning from being anemployee stuck in that horrible
nine to five grind and insteadbecoming an entrepreneur who
really lives their life theirown way, on their own terms.

(08:26):
Now, my definition of anentrepreneur is someone who
takes life by the horns, whosays get lost to convention and
not only believes their visionbut pursues it passionately,
relentlessly, because they knowin their soul that this is what
they're meant for.
Entrepreneurs live with hope, they dream big and they make it

(08:50):
happen, and to me, that is anentrepreneur, and for me and
many others, it's the only wayto live.
Now don't get me wrong.
The entrepreneurial journeyisn't a walk in the park.
It is not for the faint-hearted, but it's a journey worth
taking if your dreams meanenough to you.
It's about embracing yourspirit of innovation, becoming

(09:13):
resilient and keeping yourpassion burning bright, even
when it's really hard, becausethere's gonna be really hard
times.
Entrepreneurs dare to dream big.
They take big risks.
They persevere through all thechallenges because you're gonna
get thrown curveballs and youwon't see them coming and you
need a really good, quick arm tocatch those balls and redirect

(09:37):
them where you want them to go.
Entrepreneurship is all aboutbreaking free and stepping into
a world where you call the shots.
It's amazing.
So just imagine a life whereyou're not an employee but an
entrepreneur.
You're an explorer ofopportunities and the creator of

(09:58):
your dreams.
Embracing the entrepreneurialspirit means seeing potential
where others see obstacles.
It's about having the courageto pursue your vision, even when
it feels daunting.
The journey will have its upsand downs and some days you will
second guess yourself andwonder what the heck you're on

(10:20):
this ride for.
But even with all the hard work, and it takes a tremendous
amount of work, especially inthe beginning, and all the
frustration, because nothinggood comes without some
challenges along the way.
Entrepreneurship is the mostpowerful and magical journeys
you can travel, and when youembrace your entrepreneurial

(10:41):
spirit, you'll discover anewfound sense of purpose.
You will enjoy creative andlife freedoms that you can't
even imagine right now.
When you choose to step awayfrom the rules of the corporate
world and stop being a corporatehostage, you will then have the
freedom to innovate, to createand to shape your own destiny,

(11:04):
and it's liberating knowing thatall your efforts are building
your dreams and not someoneelse's.
Now, freedom it means differentthings to different people.
For some, it's all aboutfinancial independence.
For others, it's about havingthe time and the space they need
to go after their passions topursue their goals.
For other people, it's livingthe laptop lifestyle, so they

(11:27):
can work while they travelwherever their heart desires.
Defining freedom and what itmeans to you is an important
part of your entrepreneurialjourney, because it can serve as
a kind of lighthouse in theocean of days.
It's what will drive youforward, keep you motivated

(11:47):
during those tough times Imentioned, and it will help to
keep you focused and treadingthe right path to success for
you.
So take some time to reflect onwhat freedom means to you.
Write down your thoughts, yourdreams and your goals and go
deep on this.
Once you define what freedommeans to you, it'll be that

(12:07):
little carrot that keeps yougoing, or the lighthouse that I
mentioned.
And when you get off trackbecause you will, this isn't a
perfect journey you can look atyour freedom goal and step back
onto the right path and stayaway from what's pulling you off
course, I like to actuallytranslate my freedom goals into

(12:28):
a dream board so that I've got alovely visual reminder that I
look at every single day.
I've actually got it sitting onmy desk so that whenever I'm
working, at any second throughthe day, I can look at it and
what it says to me is this iswhere you're heading.
Isn't it amazing?
And it just energizes me andinstantly gets me back on track,

(12:49):
and any negative thoughts thatI was feeling before looking at
it they go.
It just vibes me up in thepositive, strong way I need and
reminds me of why I'm doing whatI'm doing and where I'm headed.
Having that visual reminder isjust so incredibly powerful, so

(13:12):
I encourage you to do that Now.
Taking the first steps towardsbecoming an entrepreneur and
starting your own business canalso be scary.
You might have some doubts andfears and you will most likely
have a whole lot of questions, which is completely normal.
But remember, every successfulentrepreneur, no matter how
fantastic they are, they allstarted where you are right now.

(13:35):
Most of them didn't even haveexperience in what they wanted
to do.
So look at Richard Branson.
Did he have any experience inbuilding a record label or
running an airline or going intospace when he started?
No, none.
His first business was actuallya magazine called Student,

(13:56):
which he started when he was 16years old.
It was much later that hestarted Virgin Records and
Virgin Atlantic Airlines andthen, after going into the
travel industry, he sort of wentdown the path of rail travel
and into aerospace, but hehadn't.
The point I'm making is hehadn't done any of those things
before he started and, to behonest, he probably had no idea

(14:21):
that one day he'd be doing allthese things.
And that's becauseentrepreneurship is an
evolutionary journey.
It grows and takes you on newand unexpected paths, and that
happens because you're socreative and because you're open
to new opportunities and youcan't possibly foresee all the

(14:44):
amazing things that are plannedfor your future, that are coming
for you.
You just have to know thatopportunities are there, waiting
for you, and you need to beopen to them and recognise them
when they come your way.
Richard Branson is a bit of aninspiration to me, and it's

(15:04):
because he's a truemulti-passionate entrepreneur.
Most of the entrepreneurs Iknow are multi-passionate I am
myself and so it's highlyrelatable.
I love how curious he is andreally tackles life with joy and
focuses on possibilities andcreating opportunity.

(15:24):
They're the hallmarks of agreat entrepreneur.
So you don't have to be anexpert.
You do not have to have 30years of experience behind you.
What you do need is awillingness to learn and to grow
and to be open to all thoseamazing opportunities that are
in your future that you don'tknow about yet.
You need to try and seek themout and when they come to you,

(15:47):
just have a think about it, givethem a go.
You need to be able to getknocked down and you need to be
able to bounce back up and havean unshakable belief in yourself
and in your abilities, becauseeverything else can be learned,
it can be outsourced, you canwork it out.
There's plenty of ways to get towhat you need.
There's actually nothing youcan't do.

(16:10):
There is nothing you can't do.
All you need is to take thatleap of faith, embrace the
uncertainty because it's alluncertain and trust yourself,
and once you jump in, you'll getthe experience you need, you'll
build your confidence andskills and one day, the fear and
hesitancy it'll be gone andinstead you'll have all this

(16:32):
excitement for your future andthe opportunities that are
circling around you, and beforeyou know it, you'll be the
expert in your field and willhave an amazing business and
life that you adore.
It's so exciting and you knowthere's so many insanely
successful entrepreneurs in theworld in every industry or niche

(16:55):
you can imagine, and it's easyto see where they are now and
think that you could neverachieve what they have.
But when you think that way, stop.
You don't have to scratch thesurface very hard to find that
most of those extremelysuccessful entrepreneurs didn't
have it all together when theystarted.
They didn't look at anyone'sstory, they started from scratch

(17:18):
.
They had bags of bravado, theyhad enthusiasm, but they sure
did make a lot of mistakes alongthe way, didn't they?
And it's their mistakes thatquite often led to their
greatest achievements.
Now, this might sound weird, butI hope you make mistakes in
your entrepreneurial journey, because that's where the deep

(17:39):
growth comes from.
When you make mistakes, yourbrain becomes more elastic.
It opens up new pathways so youcan learn and grow and improve
and do it better next time.
And even though it may not feelvery good to make mistakes
particularly when you're in thatmoment, what they do is bring

(17:59):
you closer to your goals.
Mistakes progress you.
They move you forwards if youchoose to learn from them.
So they're really an integralpart of your journey.
You can't avoid mistakes.
You will make them.
It's inevitable.
It doesn't matter that you'regoing to make mistakes.
What matters is how you respondto them.

(18:20):
You don't need to be perfect.
Perfectionism is overrated andI call it the killer of dreams
so dream killer and it justcauses you unnecessary anxiety
and stress.
So, instead of feeling stressedor anxious about making a
mistake, embrace your mistakes, love them and look at them as an

(18:42):
opportunity.
Because that's the mindset ofan entrepreneur they look for
opportunity.
So when you do make a mistake,to make it an opportunity, what
you need to do is have a reallygood look at what happened.
Think about what were youtrying to do and what went wrong
, and when did it go wrong.

(19:02):
Why did it go wrong?
What could have prevented that?
Was there another option andwhy didn't you take it?
Also, what could have happenedif you took a different course
of action?
All these insights areincredibly valuable and if you
ask yourself these questions, you'll be able to learn from

(19:23):
them and next time createsomething entiling you or
something that's even better foryou and your clients.
So part of your entrepreneurialjourney is to be kind to
yourself, expect mistakes anduse them as an opportunity,
because that's what greatentrepreneurs do Now.

(19:46):
