Today I'm your host, samanthaBell, and this is the Brilliant
Business, beautiful Life podcast.

(00:46):
Are you ready for the businessand life of your dreams?
Let's get started.
Today is the third episode inour Startup Success series, a
series of five talks all aboutstarting up your business.
We're focusing right at thevery beginning of your
entrepreneurial journey, andtoday I want to address some

(01:07):
common concerns women have whenthey're deciding to start a
business or not start Now.
I asked you to think about theword obstacle and what it made
you think or feel when you hearthat word, and if you're like
most people, the word obstacleimmediately makes you feel

(01:28):
negative or feel despondent, orthat something is going to be
too hard, or that it's just notgoing to be a good situation.
So I need to stop you there.
If this is how you naturallyfeel when you hear the word
obstacle or when you facechallenges, it's time to reframe
your thinking.

(01:49):
Every successful entrepreneurfaces challenges and obstacles
on a daily basis, every singleday, but what they don't do is
let those challenges hold themback.
So you need to start thinkinglike an entrepreneur, embrace
this positive, forward thinking, entrepreneurial mindset, and

(02:13):
when you do, you are settingyourself up for success.
You can transform all thosenegative thoughts and feelings
into more positive ones, likecuriosity and possibility.
Everything comes down to mindset.
The success of your businesshinges on your mindset.
You can have the best servicesin the world, the best products

(02:34):
in the world, the best website, the best marketing, the best
everything, but if your mindsetis not an entrepreneurial
mindset, where it is gearedtowards curiosity, possibility,
making things happen, you're notgoing to succeed.
It all starts with your mindset.
So that's what I want toaddress here today Reframing how

(02:57):
you think about obstacles.
We want to put you on the pathto success.
So if you've ever dreamed ofleaving in the night to five,
starting your business, livinglife on your terms.
You, like a lot of otherambitious women, you've got a
powerful dream.
It's a driving force.

(03:17):
You've got passion.
You've got vision anddetermination.
But alongside all thosewonderful things, you've also
got some doubts and naggingquestions that are just holding
you back.
So we want to stop you holdingyourself back, because that's a
fear based response, it's not apositive one and it's never

(03:39):
going to get you anywhere good.
So we are going to learn how toconquer your obstacles, how to
get onto the full path ofentrepreneurial potential, how
to embrace challenge and switchit on its head and make it
something really positive foryou, because an entrepreneur

(04:02):
always looks at problems asopportunities, and that's what
you need to start doing too, ifthis is the right journey for
you.
One of the biggest fears peoplehave is the fear of the unknown,
and a significant barrier toentrepreneurship is that fear.
When you start a business, itfeels like you're stepping into

(04:24):
uncharted territory, and that'sbecause you are.
You're thinking what if I makea mistake?
What if I fail?
What if it doesn't work out?
Well, it's time to stopthinking that way.
You need to stop going intopanic mode where everything's
out of control and going intoentrepreneur mode, where
everything's an opportunity.

(04:44):
What if you make a mistake?
Well, that's not a bad thing.
That's actually a good thing.
Mistakes are there for a reasonthey help you grow, they help
you learn, they help you getbetter.
If you don't make mistakes, youdon't improve, you don't grow,
you don't move forward.
So make mistakes.
I encourage you to makemistakes, because it's only

(05:06):
going to improve you and yourservices and how you do things.
What if you fail?
Well, what if you fail?
You get back up and you tryagain.
Failure is like mistakes.
You need to fail to grow andget better.
So fail, fall down, get back up, retry it, get on the horse and
make things better.

(05:27):
You learn when you fail.
You learn when you makemistakes, so it's nothing to be
scared of.
They're actually opportunitiesfor you to get better and to
grow and make your business thesuccess that it needs to be.
So, instead of thinking aboutuncertainty or the fear of the
unknown being a bad thing, startto shift your thinking and

(05:51):
think of it as an opportunity,as a good thing that's going to
help you in your business.
This mindset is such a powerfulally on your journey to success
.
Another obstacle for a lot ofwomen is having a lack of
clarity.
So you might have a reallyvague idea of what you want to

(06:13):
achieve, but having a lack ofclarity can make your progress
stop.
Successful entrepreneurs knowthat having a crystal clear
vision is the compass thatguides all of their decisions.
If you are lacking clarity, that's a good thing.
You can actually turn thataround and make it a positive

(06:35):
simply by sitting with it.
What are you unclear about?
Have a conversation withyourself, get your note pad out,
start jotting down some ideas.
What are the areas you don'tknow?
What are you unclear about?
Is there something you need tolearn?
Is there a step that you'vemissed?
Is there a different way ofdoing something that you're

(06:58):
already doing?
You know?
Really dig into what are youunclear about and you might find
you're actually not unclear atall.
You're just scared.
If it's scared, if that's whatyou're feeling, is well, you can
just shift your thinking andthink it's natural to feel
scared.
That's nothing to be scared of.
That's actually somethingthat's going to make you take

(07:20):
being bold, imperfect action, which is going to push you
forwards.
So, again, start reframing yourmindset and embrace everything
as being a positive way to moveforwards.
Get clear on your vision, anddoing that is going to actually
allow you to remove things thatdon't serve you or your business

(07:43):
and really focus on the thingsthat you do.
So lack of clarity is a goodthing.
It allows you to really defineyour vision and get precise on
what it is you want and getclear on how you're going to
make it happen, and then youwill have that crystal clear
vision that all the successfulentrepreneurs have.

(08:07):
Another obstacle is overwhelmand information overload, so you
want to cut through all thenoise.
There is so much informationoverload out there.
It is a real challenge.
There's the constant feed onyour social media webinars,
courses, downloads, people thatyou talk to, family and friends.

(08:28):
They're all telling you this iswhat you need, this is what you
need.
This is the next great thing, and it can really be confusing.
To overcome that, step back.
Remain focused on what yourvision is, why you've started,
who your ideal client is, and gofrom there.
Cut out the white noise, takecontrol.

(08:49):
You can hear all the other bitsand pieces.
You can quickly look atsomething and think, no, that's
not aligned with my business.
I put it aside.
It might work for others, butit may not be right for you.
So this is where you need tostart being a little more
strategic in your thinking andjust cut out the fluff.
Keep what matters to you, keepwhat matters to your business,

(09:10):
keep clear on your vision andyour clients and you can't go
wrong.
Another obstacle is financialconcerns.
Again, very negativeconnotation, very downward
emotions using the word concerns, but finances can be a big
source of anxiety.
When you're just starting out.

(09:31):
You've got questions about yourstartup costs, your revenue
projections, all the bits andpieces that you need to pay for
in your business, and it couldpotentially keep you up at night
.
So, instead of worrying, justput a plan into place.
I recommended in the lastepisode that you start your
business as a side hustle sothat you can get really strong

(09:55):
in your finances with theprotection of having your nine
to five job.
So that alleviates all thefinancial stress.
It alleviates all the worryabout where is the money going
to come from when you're just inthat startup mode.
So be smart Really, do the workupfront to set you up in a good

(10:16):
way for the long term and allthat stress and anxiety and
overwhelm is just going to meltaway.
So see, there's always a way ofrethinking about things and
doing a different action to geta better result.
That's what you need to startdoing if you're going to be an
entrepreneur.

(10:37):
Another obstacle women alwayssay and this should probably be
number one on the list is Idon't have time.
Well, I'm sorry, but I don'thave time does not fly.
How much time do you spendscrolling on Instagram or
Facebook every day?
I guarantee you're on there fora minimum of half an hour a day

(10:59):
.
Imagine if you redirected thathalf an hour a day into working
on your business.
Every half an hour you work onyour business, you are moving
forwards.
Every half an hour you spend onyour social media, you're
staying stuck.
So what matters to you Socialmedia or your business comes

(11:20):
down to making a decision, doesn't it?
So you might be aspiring tostart your business.
You might already be reallybusy.
You might be balancing yourwork, your nine to five, your
family commitments, yourpersonal commitments, and you
might be thinking I just reallydon't have the time.
But believe me, there arepockets of time in your day that

(11:43):
are not being utilized, andit's amazing how much you can do
in a short, focused period oftime.
That is going to really moveyou forward.
So you've got to start analyzingyour time.
Have a look at your scheduleand really work out do I not
have any time or do I just thinkI don't have any time?

(12:05):
And then you can start plottingout where you have available
time.
It might only be 10 minutes, but 10 minutes doing something
positive for your business isgoing to move you forwards,
rather than 10 minutes wastedfapping around doing nothing.
So it really again comes downto making a decision what

(12:26):
matters to you 10 minutessitting on the couch or 10
minutes working on your business?
Entrepreneurs are thinking allthe time.
They're making opportunitiesout of everything.
So if you feel you don't havethe time, do a time audit
Seriously, sit down and analyzeyour time.

(12:47):
Be real.
Look at what you do for yourwork.
Look at you know the traveltime that's involved in getting
to and from your work.
Look at what you do for thefamily, for yourself, and find
the gaps.
Are there things you're doingthat you don't need to do?
Or are there things you'redoing that could be done on a
different day at a differenttime?

(13:08):
That's going to free up an hour.
Here and there.
You know there's going to betime gaps where you can focus on
your business.
Like I said, even if it's 10minutes, 20 minutes, half an
hour, that half an hour is spentbeautifully if it's on your
business, moving things forward, rather than watching TV,

(13:32):
scrolling on Instagram or justsitting staring at the ceiling.
So you probably have a lot moretime than you think you do.
So do a time audit and figurethat out.
Another obstacle I think Itouched on it before is a fear
of failure and, like I saidearlier, embrace failure as an
opportunity.

(13:52):
It's a stepping stone that'sgoing to move you forwards.
You want to fail, you want tomuck up, because in the mucking
up that's when you find the gold.
You find new ways of doingthings, better ways of doing
things, faster ways of doingthings, cheaper ways of doing
things.
You need to fail, you need tofall down and get back up again.

(14:16):
Fear of failure is a reallypowerful emotion and it can
literally paralyze you.
So many people are so scared offailure or so scared of being
called a failure or considered afailure that they won't do
anything, they won't take action, they won't start something

(14:37):
that is their heart's desire, because they're worried about
what other people will say orthink Now, don't let the
opinions of other people stopyou from doing what you love.
That's just craziness, I mean,it's your life, it's not their
life.
Who cares what their opinion is?
And if their opinion isnegative, you don't need to

(14:58):
listen to it.
So choose what you listen to,choose what you embrace, and
start embracing failure as anopportunity, because that's what
it is, and I guarantee.
In business.
You are going to fail.
You are going to fail it Littlethings, you're going to fail it
.
Big things, you're going tofail it All sorts of things but

(15:20):
every single failure is movingyou forwards to greatness.
So embrace your failure.
Wipe out the white noise.
Don't listen to the naysayersand just get in and do it and
trust yourself.
Another obstacle is women feelscared about building a business

(15:40):
on their own.
They don't want to do it ontheir own because they don't
know what they're doing or howto do it or why, and I get that.
That's a real, genuine fear.
But the way you can make it anopportunity is by building a
support system around you.
Start connecting with mentors, start feeling out other local

(16:02):
business owners, startnetworking, build your
connections, createrelationships.
Build that support systemaround you.
You'll also most likely have afriend or a colleague, or even a
cousin or different relativethat just gets what you're doing
or gets why you're doing it.

(16:24):
They may not have any businessexperience, but they know you
and they know your passion andthey know that you are so
capable of this that they aregoing to be in your corner every
step of the way, cheering youon.
You want to really surroundyourself with people like that.
There are so many people whowon't understand what you're

(16:45):
doing.
They won't know why does shewant to do this?
Isn't that crazy?
Shouldn't she just stay in anine to five?
That'd be so much easier.
Those people don't get it.
You don't want to surroundyourself with people that don't
get it.
You can still love them andhave them in your life, but you
don't want to rely on them tosupport you emotionally in your

(17:07):
business.
You need to choose wisely whoyou take advice from, who you
listen to and who you spend yourtime with in relation to your
business.
So make some good choices there.
Build a beautiful communityaround you and you won't be
alone.
You'll just be powerful andable to just leap to new heights

(17:29):
.
They'll ask you now how do youfeel about the word obstacle?
Is it still really negative oris it more of an opportunity?
It's really important that youstart reframing how you think
about that word.
Challenges, obstacles, anythingnegative, I can't, I won't.

(17:51):
There's a big differencebetween I can't and I won't.
I can't is being a victim.
I won't is making a choice.
So you need to start makingchoices, and making smart
choices for yourself, and youcan overcome anything.
You can do anything if it'swhat you really want.

(18:13):
If this entrepreneurial journeyis for you, you'll know it deep
within your soul, you'll feelit.
It'll just be a burning desireand even though you're scared,
even though you've got fears, even though you've got questions
, you're going to startembracing that entrepreneurial
mindset and start doing itanyway.

(18:35):
You're going to start lookingat those obstacles as
opportunities and I reallyencourage you to start learning
and growing and just exploringthat.
It will change the way you feel.
It will change the way youapproach life.
It's so powerful.
The last thing I'll say is Iwant you to remember that

obstacles are not roadblocks, they are nothing to be scared of
.

challenge you overcome bringsyou one step closer to your
