Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thanks for tuning in to the Bring Joy Podcast.
We're in Season 5 and it's allabout baseball.
I'm talking big leagues to thelittle leagues, yankees to the
Conks and everything in between.
I'll share my joy for the gamewith you and, whether you're a
fan of baseball or goodstorytelling, trust me you'll be
entertained and each episodewill bring a little joy to your
day.
So sit back and relax.

(00:21):
Let's do this thing.
Get your pods, pens, cowboysand horns ready.
It's playoff season, baby, andif you don't know, you can ask
somebody or sit for a few andlet me tell you what I know.
High schools across the countryare competing for the top spots
in their state, vying for achance to raise the trophy over
their heads and add statechampion to their resumes, and

(00:44):
their fans wholeheartedlybelieve this is our year.
Hell, yeah, you gotta believe, baby, what he say.
It ain't no thing because it'severything and in the end,

(01:05):
there's no question who's thebest.
So let me go ahead and tip mycap to the team still in it,
most especially to our cousinsup the road the Marathon
Dolphins and the Coral ShoresHurricanes.
I see you making your inauguraltrip to the playoffs and Coach
Joey Dub and Miggy Menendez gottheir clubs ready too.
We did not come this far tojust break down and lose.

(01:27):
Now I'm a winner.
I'm going to win.
I wish you well, but this is myshow and everybody knows me and
the crew rocked at KW from theheart.
We've had a front row seat toquality baseball for 27 games.
That got us here.
But to keep me honest and notlooking ahead too much, let's

(01:48):
look back at the last three winsand set the stage for the 2025
playoff season.
The final regular season gamewas a fun one for the K crew.
We hung a season-high 12 red KsSix for starter senior Vinny
Malene and six more for bigCasey Casper, who stepped in for
relief to earn the win for thegood guys.

(02:09):
Big K was lights out for threein the third innings and had the
Eustace Panthers swinging andmissing, and senior Caden
Pichardo is on fire at the plate.
He, along with Roman Garcia andNelly Ong, have multiple hits
and RBIs, providing the offensefor the series sweep and
launching us into the districttournament.
Royal Kong fans fill the tanksand set the navigation to find

(02:35):
Bayland Jesuit PreparatorySchool, home of the Wolverines
and the tournament host.
Now, that's no neutral site asfar as I'm concerned, I'm going
to let sleeping dogs lie.
But don't get any silly ideas.
17 is taken.
If you know, you know.
Let me get back to the field ofplay.

(02:57):
We were matched up against theSouth Miami Cobras for what
turned out to be the shortestgame of the season.
With the mercy rule going intoeffect, the game was called in
the fifth inning.
Senior JC Lompis-Gormley wasdealing on the mound.
The kid only needed 55 pitches.
Coach Ralphie's a straight-upgenius, converting the infielder
into a starting pitcher.

(03:18):
With the Bayland Stadium underconstruction, conk fans packed
the temporary bleachers incenter field, but it gave us a
great view of our gold gloveoutfielders Kay Maltz, sammy
Holland and Nelly, who showedoff his big league arm with a
throw from right field, gettinga runner out at second base.
Come on, cobras, you playingthe mighty, mighty Conks.
The number one seed the top ofthe heap.

(03:40):
And how about the productionfrom the top of the lineup?
Nelly, cade, roman and Cadenput on a clinic, tagging seven
hits and knocking in 10 of our13 runs on the day, the biggest
was a home run off the bat ofPachardo.
He launched a laser over theleft field wall, bringing the
fans to their feet and giving meflashbacks to when he did the

(04:01):
same thing against CardinalGibbons in the 2024 postseason.
The dominant win made the ridehome scene quick, and we needed
it because Baylen was coming totown to face off for the
district championship game.
Which brings me to those pots, pans, cowbells and horns I was

(04:22):
talking about earlier.
Conks love baseball, especiallyplayoff baseball, and show up at
the recs ready to make somenoise.
I lost count at about 998 fansall proudly rocking that red
conk baseball attire.
The music was pumping from thespeakers while the Conks took an
enthusiastic and purposefulinfield.

(04:42):
The 11-time Conk Cafe wasserving up barbecue, mac and
cheese and, yep, that'sTiffany's key lime pie too.
There's no better atmospherethan at the Rex for playoff
baseball.
And Vinny Moline pitched a gem.
His pitches stayed in the zoneall night, landing in the mitt
wherever catcher Jackie Nilesset up.

(05:02):
Vinny was ready for the momentand we needed him to be, because
Baylen's pitcher had a bignight as well shutting down our
offense, but for one run in thefirst inning that came on a
bases-loaded walk.
The game was a nail-biter andhad fans from both teams on the
edge of our seats anticipating, leaning in, even praying for

(05:23):
that big hit that might blow itopen, but it never came.
Inning after inning, the scoreremained Conks won, wolverines
none.
It's the top of the seventh andthe Conks are three hours away
from the district championshipK-Crews on their feet, clanging
bells and blowing horns.
Those good seats don't comecheap.

(05:43):
We got a job to do.
The heart of the lineup was dueup for Baylynn.
Benny made quick work of theircleanup hitter, sending him down
, looking at a nasty pitch forthe first out, and the crowd got
even louder.
The Rex was rocking.
This is the playoffs.
The next batter gets on base atwhat I'm still calling a

(06:06):
questionable hit by pitch.
Omg, where else would yourather be?
Vinny steps off the mound, wipes the sweat from his arm,
catches his breath, steps up,throws the next pitch and gets a
perfect six, four, three-3double play.
But we couldn't turn it after ahard slide disrupted the throw
to first.
Now there's two outs and thetie and run is still at first.
But I already told you, vinnypitched to Jim.

(06:30):
He gets the next batter to popup to Javi at second Game over.
Conks win, conks win.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
The lead gets mobbed on the mound.
Game over Conks win.
Conks win.
What a performance by Molinehere.
He gets Lopez to pop up to JaviPerez in shallow right field to

(07:02):
end the ball game and in suchdramatic fashion the Cocks hold
on to win, Knock off the win bythe score of 1-0.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Then he ended the night with 8 strikeouts and a
complete game shutout.
Watching him command the moundreminded me of what Coach Doug
Mankiewicz preached about on mylast episode control the
controllables, Control thecontrollables.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Baseball has been saying that for years Control
the things you can't control.
What can you control?
I can control my demeanor, Ican control my breathing and I
can control my process, and thequicker you do that, the quicker
you will be the guy that getsthe game-winning hit more times
than not.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Conk fans will be talking about his performance
for years to come.
But yo pump the brakes.
Don't get all nostalgic on me,we just getting started.
The first round of regionals iscoming to the Rex in the form
of the Satellite Beach Scorpions.
The series is a best of three.
The Conks' winning record hasearned the first two games at
home.
Wins aren't guaranteed, butrequired.

(08:03):
Everyone has a job to do, fromthe players on the field to the
fans across the islands, frombahama village to ocean's edge,
ramrod cudjoe, sugarloaf and bigcop it I'm talking to you too,
it's a red out.
Bring those pots and pans andshow some Conk pride.
First pitch 730.

(08:32):
