Remember that show With host MelAllen?
Me and my childhood bestieTricia watched that show every
Saturday morning.
Then would head out on ourbikes looking for a game to join
.
We'd always find one.
Well, here's my nod to theclassic show.

(00:46):
Only, this episode is more likelast week in baseball.
I knew it was going to be agood week when it started, with
me shagging balls for myfour-year-old nephew at the park
.
I know right, Be still my heartand wait for it.
He squares up lefty at theplate.
I don't know what hand hethrows with, cuz he's not

(01:07):
interested in playing catch.
He just wants to hit dingersand I'm good with that.
I'll tell him, like I tellRoman Garcia and Sammy Holland
you hit it, I'll go get it.
We're off to a good start, right, but stick around until
the end, because I'm going towalk it off with Augie Davila.
But there's ground to coverbefore we get to the recs.

(01:30):
Spring training is officiallyunderway, with all Major League
players joining their teams andreturning to the parks, Most
notably Juan Soto, who signedthe richest contract in sports
history $765 million with theMets.
Yeah, Brother man didn't wantto be a Yankee, so now he's a
Met, A very wealthy Met, but aMet.

(01:52):
So, on behalf of all Yankeefans, thanks for coming and
thanks for leaving.
We'll see you around the way,and we don't even have to wait
until the regular season.
The crosstown rivals will faceeach other on March 24th.
Mark your calendars, and ifBoone is any kind of skipper,
he'll make sure Garrett Colegets a start.
Our best against their best.

(02:14):
In other Yankee news, HalSteinbrenner held a press
conference to announce theYankees were adjusting the
policy regarding facial hair.
Yankee players can now wearwell-groomed beards.
Immediately, there were memeson the internet with Derek, the
all-time Captain Jeter, with anAI-enhanced beard.
Don't, okay.
Somebody call Elon Musk andhave him ban all Derek Jeter

(02:37):
beard memes ASAP.
Is anything sacred anymore?
Devin Williams, the new Yankeecloser, has always worn a full
beard and is one of many playerswho advised the boss man on the
topic, saying beards wereimportant to players.
Really, Beards, Okay, whatever.
Just promise me you guysunderstand.

(02:58):
Well-groomed means you washingit with soap and water.
And, gentlemen, one more thingJust because you can doesn't
mean you should.
Matter of fact, why don't wewait till you get back to the
Bronx, take a walk throughMonument Park and see what the
babe and the mick have to say?
I know you get me started.
I'll talk all day about theYankees, but let's do that.
Next episode I'll bring on mypal, lifetime Yankee fan, Cookie

(03:21):
Charres, and we'll give ourtake on the 2025 Yankee season
and how we expect our boys torespond to the World Series loss
to the Dodgers.
Okay, I said it, we lost to theDodgers.
I might need to get used totalking about the Dodgers,
because here's the thing KeyWest native son, Anthony Knowles
is a rising star in theorganization.

(03:42):
I told you last episode keep aneye on Knowles is a rising star
in the organization.
I told you last episode keep aneye on Knowles.
The kid got the call to work aninning on opening day against
the Cubs, Two ground balls and apop-up.
Even superstar Mookie Bettsgave Tone some love.
And as Teosca Hernandez wascatching the third out, the TV
guy says an impressiveseven-inning pitch for the pride
of Key West, Antonio Knowles.

(04:04):
Go ahead, make me stand up andsalute the TV as I replay the
inning.
What 20, 25 times, who'scounting?
The Dodger Daily websitefeatured Antonio's inning with a
complimentary caption that inpart said Tones is absolutely an
elite human being and has a tonof potential.
He goes on to say I'm not goingto hide it, he's one of my

(04:27):
favorites to root for.
Well, Mr Dodger Daily, join theKey West Conga Line because the
entire island is rooting forthe kid, because the entire
island is rooting for the kid.
The college baseball season isalso underway, which means it's
time to kick in that ESPN Plussubscription to catch all the
college action.
If you're a baseball fan andnot following college baseball,

(04:49):
who are you really?
I've recently become a StetsonHatties fan, but always love the
Knowles and expect them to goback to Omaha this summer along
with Felix Ong and the FloridaGators.
But I'll definitely befollowing the teams of Jacob
Burnham, Lucky Barroso, JackHaggerd and all the Conch
Baseball alumni playing collegebaseball.
And the Lady Conchs alumni arewell represented at the college

(05:13):
level.
Also, Congratulations to BellaPerez.
In her second year with FIU,she hit the Panthers' first home
run of the season and checkthis out the 2025 Lady Conks
were in the stands to see it.
How cool is that?
Even cooler, the Lady Conksturned a triple play during
their away game.
Way to be heads up.
Tavon and Shiloh.

(05:35):
The Conkball 12U team, coachedby Miguel Gonzalez, hit the road
to compete in a perfect gametournament.
The young ballers wentundefeated in five games.
They brought home a trophy andplenty of experience as they
prepared for this summer's tripsto Cooperstown.
Back at home, there was plentyof action at the recs.
Let's start with a doubleheaderfor our JV team.

(05:56):
The young squad typically hasto rough it on the road, so I
was excited to watch them playat home.
They swung the bats withpurpose and won both games.
I'll call out Christian Mastersfor the inside the park home
run.
You gotta hit it far and runfast to make that happen.
The varsity Kongs came into theweekend feeling confident after

(06:17):
winning the regular seasonopener against two ABF Academy
teams out of Homestead andHialeah.
The Conks put up 19 runs.
The big highlight was Sammystaying hot at the plate,
including a home run to centerfield.
And the sophomore sensationsNellie Ong, Roman and Augie
tagged triples on the weekend.
Sophomore sensations Nelly Ong,Roman and Augie tagged triples

(06:38):
on the weekend.
Vinny Moline and ChristianKoppel got the starts and
combined with the bullpen, wehung 20 Ks.
The Conchs played clean defense, no errors.
The sweep earned the milestone400th win for Coach Ralph
Henriquez.
Congratulations, Coach.
Coach, the Miami ChristianVictors came into town carrying

(07:00):
a lot of hype from the SouthFlorida baseball writers.
Well, we play good teams forbreakfast.
I know I know too much, toosoon, but it's Friday night at
the Rex and what's Mike Stacksay?
Key West, Florida.
The Key West calls we ready,Mile zero, bottom of the map,
home to the Rex.
You know we about that actionAll right.

(07:21):
Well, it didn't work out likewe planned it, so I'm going to
fast forward and skip thedetails.
We lost a two-run lead and thegame in the seventh inning took
home a heartbreaking loss.
But Saturday night we came backready to play.
Roman set the tone early, crushing a home run to left
field.
He knew it as soon as he hit it.
We all did and rose to our feetand watched the ball fly over

(07:44):
the fence until we couldn't seeit anymore.
Somebody call Aaron Judge andask him how to measure that exit
velocity.
We had a two-run lead goinginto the fourth and our pitchers
lost their touch and couldn'tfind the strike, allowing three
runs to score and the victorstake the lead.
Then Cruz control Holmes tookover on the mound, threw three

(08:08):
scoreless innings, keeping histeam in the game.
But their pitcher was equallyimpressive with multiple release
points.
Had the umpire mesmerized andthe conch batters guessing.
We hadn't scored since thesecond.
So we're heading into thebottom of the seventh.
Miami Christian 4, Conchs 3.
Need I remind you this team hashard and no quit?

(08:28):
Jackson Bernhardt comes in as apitch hitter.
He works a walk after a toughnine pitch at bat.
Nelly flies out for out numberone.
Then Showtime.
K Maltz lines a single.
Now we looking at runners onfirst and second.
With Roman due up.
He welcomes their new pitchertagging a single up the middle,
scoring to Speedy Bernhardt.

(08:48):
And we all nodded up before apiece.
Here we go, Key West.
Here we go.
Kaden Pichardo flies out forthe second out.
Now Sammy and all hisconfidence steps to the plate.
A bass rap right here.
Run scores and we go home, orhe gets out and we play extras.
No pressure really.
Well, they decide tointentionally walk Holland to

(09:10):
face Augie.
Now the bases are juiced withtwo outs, Got a ball game.
Need a ball player?
Augie falls behind in the count.
He steps out of the box, gets asign from coach I'm not trying
to steal signs, but I'm prettysure he gave him the hit, the
damn ball sign.
Augie agrees, steps back in thepitcher, takes his sweet time

(09:37):
to deliver the pitch.
If there was a 22nd clock inhigh school, like the pros,
there'd be a major violation.
Augie's feet are firm in hisstance but he's loading that bat
to time the pitch.
Finally, what looks to me likea fastball comes his way and
Augie drills it.
Conchs runners take off forhome.
The left fielder and the centerfielder make their jumps toward
each other and the ball, but itsails over the head into the

(09:57):
gap for a double scoring.
Two Conks win, Conchs, win.
There's pandemonium at the recs, the conks on the field and in
the stands mob each other.
There's hugs, high fives andback flips.
The K crew was pumped up and inno hurry to head home, so we
stuck around and continuedcelebrating high-fiving moms,

(10:18):
dads, aunts, cousins, anyone whohad a cheesy grin like us while
we waited to congratulate theteam.
I realize this season is justgetting started and it's more of
a marathon than a sprint, but Ialso realize you shouldn't ever
contain your joy.
Eventually we headed out and myfriend K Crew Mark says to me

(10:39):
sometimes I have to pinch myselfand remember this is high
school baseball.
Yes, sir, my friend at itsfinest, as Mel Allen used to say
, that's all for now.
