Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, I'm excited about this.
I'm excited about all of ourepisodes, but this one's pretty
ridiculous.
So you have this license, you're a professional, you've
been doing something for agazillion years and you know
that you're like cut above therest.
And then you say to yourselfthen what?
It is true that there aremillions of people who are
sitting with a set of expertiseand licenses and just

(00:24):
deliciousness that they havecrafted into what I call mastery
, and at some point you got totake that mastery and do
something else with it, becauseI kind of believe we're either
doing the damn thing or we'renot.
Now, in this episode, you'regoing to hear someone who's deep
inside of our community and Godyou talk about.
What does it mean to faceyourself, face your fears, take

(00:44):
yourself to the next level, reinvent the way you think,
behave, distribute, create anddecide?
I know for the woman, for thehuman, but specifically for the
woman who's sitting outsidethere, who has been on a long
journey and feels that she's atthe end, I'm going to tell you

(01:05):
wait till you hear aboutreinvention and what it means to
get to the next step, rightwhere you are with what you have
.
Hey, you welcome to Build theDamn Thing, a place where myself
, tiffany Largy and our amazingDo the Damn Thing?

(01:29):
Coaches show you how to useyour story to build it all,
whether it's your first sixfigures, your next layer of
multiple six figures, or maybeyou're on your way to a minute.
First, we're going to show youhow to use your story to build a
strong foundation, and then, next, we're going to show you
how to use your story in salesand marketing to clean up the
crots.
And, last but not least, we'regoing to show you how to use

(01:52):
your story to gather people, because the truth of the matter
is that there's nothing strongerthan being connected to people
who just understand you as youare where you are, so you can
stop explaining yourself.
I want to remind you that, nowthat you're here, you are home
and I officially welcome you toour family.

(02:13):
All right, let's get started.
I'm stoked about thisconversation.
I feel like it's like a longoverdue.
People know who you are inpieces, and you're one of the
most fascinating people who'sever who have ever just seen
from afar, and every time I seeyou up close I'm like it's still

(02:34):
amazing.
So tell me, tell me, who areyou.
Who are you?
Let's start there.
Who are you and why are welistening to you?

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Who am I?
Well, I am a hairstylist.
I've been a hairstylist forover 29 years.
I'm a mom, I'm an author, I'm agrandmother.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
You're also an owner, a whole CEO.
You were a hairstylist.
Yes, I now own a hair salon weown a hair salon In Atlanta
Georgia, in Atlanta Georgia.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
I am a competitive bodybuilder.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Listen to me.
Did you guys just hear aboutthat?
Did you hear what this womanjust said?
Did you know that?
Did you know that she was acompetitive?
But I don't want you to thinkit's some play around thing.
I'm talking about the position.
You get it.
I want you to get the visual.
I'm dead serious.
One day I opened up Facebooklike two years ago, and I don't

(03:39):
really spend a lot of time onFacebook but this moment I swear
to you, I see the pose and thisperson on stage and I'm like
who's that?
And then you know, when youmake the picture bigger and
you're like what?
That's?
Charon.
Charon won't play with thesepeople.
She wasn't playing with thesechildren.
And then I looked down in themirror and I was like wait a
second.
I was like who's coaching you?

(04:00):
I was like look at that body.
Come on, charon.
And then I thought to myselfabout the level of intensity,
focus and determination it takesto get to that.
And that's when I becameintrigued about who you were,
because you can't wake up andbecome a bodybuilder.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
No.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
So let's forget about all the rest of this stuff.
How did you decide?
Why did you decide to become abodybuilder?

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Well, I think it started probably about 11 years
ago.
I began to write downeverything that I wanted to do
in my life that I had just beenputting off, and since I grew up
as an athlete, I just alwayswas into competition and sports

(04:48):
and I would watch this TV show Ithink it was American
Gladiators and I always wantedto do some type of competition
like that.
Really yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Yeah, so hold on.
So when you were making yourbucket list, you were like
bodybuilder period.
Yes, really.
Yeah, that's so fascinating.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yeah, and so for years and years, I kept putting
it off, I kept putting it offand then all of a sudden, I was
just like, OK, well, I'm justgoing to do it.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
I'm going to do it.
Yeah, how long did it take you?
I mean, I'm sure you alreadyhad an amazing body before that.
But bodybuilding is somethingtotally different, totally
different.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Well, I did something pretty, I guess miraculous and
unusual, because I decided thatI was going to compete in the
competition in January, and thatwas the decision that I made in
the competition was actually amarch.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
So you said you had 60 days.
Pretty much you know what thatsounds about right Now.
Here's why this is significantto me.
Not because for the listenerfamily bestie, I want to be
clear.
I'm not interested necessarilyin you making a decision to
become a bodybuilder, but I am.
I do want you to ask yourselfhow much discipline do I have?
What am I willing to do rightnow, even if the deadline for it

(06:11):
is right around the corner?
And I'm going to tell you whenI see these pictures, I know for
a fact that she did the damnthing in 60 days.
Part of the reason why we needto make some moves is because we
just need to prove things toourselves.
Was it a motive of like for youof just proving something to
yourself?

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Yeah, I was going through a lot in my personal
life at the time and yeah, so Ijust pretty much had to, like,
transmute that energy.
It was a lot of anger that Ihad built up, so I had to do
something to transmute theenergy and then just make myself
proud of me.
And yeah so, you're right, itdefinitely took a lot of

(06:54):
determination and focus.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Were you like in the gym?
I'm just, I'm super nosy.
Were you like in the gym fivedays a week, kind of a thing.
Do you even go to the gym andwe're going to become a
bodybuilder?
What happens?

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Oh, yeah, you have to know you have to eat all the
time.
And really, yeah, it was maybe.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
I should be.
I'm halfway there.
What was?

Speaker 2 (07:13):
that it's like a all day process of negotiating what
your meals are going to be andwhen you're going to have that.
I felt like all I did was thinkabout food.
Really, yeah, and it was aseven day a week commitment,
doing morning workouts andevening workouts Got it, so I
would go work out at six o'clockin the morning.

(07:36):
And then that was a two hourworkout.
Go to work, stand on my feetall day and work out and then go
work out after work.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
So you have to eat a lot of food because of the fact
you're burning a lot of calories, correct?

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Got it yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Oh, ok, so we can work out.
So you know what I'm like.
Wait a second.
So I'm halfway there with theeating.
So I mean, I am halfway therewith the eating, so I'm proud of
it.
Ok, so you begin to bodybuildand you get on stage.
Your end to our competition.

(08:09):
Here's what I love about this.
For me, you're not reallybuilding anything for yourself
unless you get to showcase whatyou're doing.
I feel like people often andtell me if you agree.
I feel like we say, ok, I'mgoing to do this thing, I'm
doing it for me, but then we'redoing it in private.
Yeah, but you can't really bechallenged or your back can't be
against the wall or you can'treally prove anything unless

(08:30):
there's something on the otherside, and I guess the right word
is competition.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Yeah, there has to be some competition.
It does, and I think that isthe missing piece.
When people they want to dosomething, they have a goal in
mind.
Yeah, the thing that makes youpush forward, I feel like, is
having a deadline on that goaland then being able to celebrate

(08:55):
it with yourself or somebodyelse, and that makes it, makes
that dream like real by havingthat deadline.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
You know it reminds me of a principle I live by it's
what, by when.
So everything I do or it evenyou know Coaching and stuff.
The number one thing I want toknow is okay, great, we're gonna
do that awesome by when?
Because if I know the what, butI don't have the when, there's
no deadline for me.
If there's no deadline, it'snot real.
And even like in projects, ideas, I won't take on anything

(09:25):
unless there's a deadline,because I don't want to be in
the building phase forever.
Mm-hmm, like you know, like I'mworking on it now.
Yeah, I won't work in it for 45days.
Done out, I want to work, Idon't mind working on for four
years, but I want to have adeadline.
So, okay, you, I know I'vespent a lot of time on
bodybuilding, but there's threethings that are really important
to me.
In order to like build the nextversion of ourselves with our

(09:48):
licenses, with our expertise, with our Money, with our, our
family, children, whatever itmight be, we actually have to
build a foundation withinourselves.
And as I think about all thethings you've accomplished, I
know for a fact that a good partof it is what you've, what you
laid down in that time when youwere like, hey, I got this
bucket list or I got this listof things I know I got to do.

(10:10):
You didn't just go like youcould have been doing the easier
thing, like I would have done, which would be like I'm gonna
clean up my closet, you know, oryou know like I'm gonna get a
new wardrobe, or something likethat.
You were like, no, I'm gonna bein the gym for four hours a day
, seven days a week.
That's 30 at what I could.
I walked down the street Anhour ago for ten minutes and I
was tired.
You get it, yeah.
So you said I'm gonna go all in, and I think I.

(10:33):
What I love the most is thatyou went all in for yourself.
Mm-hmm and by going to a gym,you challenge yourself to show
up.
So, in order to is it fair tosay that in order to do that
thing, you have to build thefoundation in ourselves.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Oh, absolutely, and you have to get support, mm-hmm.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
It was.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
It was easy for me to Get up and go to the gym
because I knew I had somebodythat meeting me there that was
gonna support me in my goal.
I think a lot of times we feellike we have these bold,
audacious Goals and we havenobody to help, support us to
get to the end result and we welose hope and focus Because we

(11:20):
haven't found that right personto help to take us to where we
want to go when you say that youhad someone meet you and I
agree with you we lose hope andfocus two things.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
When you say you had someone, did you pay somebody?
Was it like a?
Was it like a personal?

Speaker 2 (11:38):
trainer.
Yes, I had a personal trainer,mm-hmm.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
You know I haven't.
I had a per.
You know it's funny you saythis.
You know I got sick last yearand One of the things I've been
asking myself in my health gamebecause all of that year was
just doctors, endless doctors, and the more doctors I went to
and the more hospital stays Irealized that none of them cared
about me.
They cared about finding theResult in what I felt like was a

(12:05):
win for them.
Yeah does that make any?

Speaker 2 (12:07):
sense.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Anybody here.
I'm saying like I felt like allthese doctors they were seeing
me miss lorikey, da-da-da-da-da.
But you know, like after dr 30or needle 100, I remember being
by myself in a waiting room andfeeling this sadness slash
weight and I was like I don'tthink any of these people
actually care about me.
I think that they care aboutthe win that they could have and

(12:33):
I remember asking myself whenwas the one time that I really
really like had someone whocared about me?
And it's when I had a personaltrainer.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Hmm.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
I had a personal trainer who's actually one of
our coaches in the do the damnthing world and he came into my
world maybe about four years agoand it's wild because I'll
never forget him Sayingsomething to me.
Hey, it was an exchange.
And he was like, oh, so likeyou're strong?
And I was like, oh, I'm superstrong, you know, I walk towards

(13:04):
30 minutes a day and I duringcelery every morning is that
what I tell him?
And he's like, oh, that'samazing.
But I wasn't looking for apersonal trainer and I don't
think he knew that I was gonnabecome his client, mm-hmm.
But then he goes, so you'restrong.
And I was like, yeah, and hegoes.
Okay, great, I want you to situp and down the chair like this
for a minute.

(13:24):
It was the most simplest taskabout strength and and in
essence, I was just moving mybody in a repetitive motion for
a minute and I remember going.
I'm gonna do that one, Isuppose.
Are you serious?
It's the wildest thing.
I'm in this house.
I brought my kids to thiscompound in Florida.
We're hanging out there.
I've snuck out of Californiaand I'm wearing like a you know

(13:47):
sports bra and tights, because Ithink with all my roles.
I'd you have to get the visualtogether and I'm standing
outside, I think I'm cute, hairpulled up, and I'm like and I
remember getting to like second21.
I'm like, and then he looks atme as he's still going and he
goes strong, right, right.
You know, and it was the firstmoment that I really understood

(14:10):
something for myself that I justI feel like I heard you say
there's a big difference betweenwhat we believe is our strength
and what our actual strength isand what it could be.
And in that moment I, honestly,I wasn't looking to lose weight
.
I have never I want everyone toknow, I really don't ever look

(14:30):
to lose weight.
I have this crazy idea abouthow I just look good, no matter
what you know.
And but at that moment heshowed me how weak I was and I
saw an opportunity not to becomefit but to become strong.
And then I asked a memberasking myself that night cause?
I was actually pissed off, I wasannoyed.

(14:52):
I wasn't like, oh my gosh, Iwas like this motherfucker I
don't know why you should seehow much I was talking.
I was like I don't know who thefuck you think you are and I'm
Tiffany motherfucking largi, like I was, but I had to own the
fact that I wasn't strong.
I feel like when you said to me, when you said, hey, and I know
I'm taking a long time, butthis hits home for me as a human

(15:14):
, but really as a woman Like wedon't really realize how weak we
are and then when we have thattiny moment where we feel
weakness, we try other ways orbusyness to cover it up.
But what you just told remindedme of we actually just need to
sit down and get to the work, the actual strengthening work,
and that it's hard and it's alsorewarding.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Very rewarding.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
You said something else important which was like
you.
You were like I didn't do italone.
That's why I asked you, causeI'm like I don't think I would
have gotten to this level ofstrength had I not brought him
into my life.
I have friends, yeah, I havepeople at home.
I was walking 20 minutes a day,If you ask me if I could lift
something, you know, but mostpeople that are around you.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
They're not really going to challenge you Bingo.
They're going to sign on yourlimitations and when you start
to complain about something, they join in on the complaining,
versus like giving you asolution on how to take you
higher.
And that's what's great abouthaving you know some type of
coach where they can see outsideof your limitations and help

(16:24):
push you, and sometimes theythey believe in you more than
you.
You believe in yourself.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Then you believe in yourself.
You know, co-signing Everybodyaround you doesn't challenge you
and even though this episode isnot about that, this I'm going
to get into the things she'saccomplished in just a moment.
But she's right, and this is anexpert who has just said
something super powerful thepeople around you will co-sign,
they will enable you, they willgo oh, your foot's hurting or

(16:54):
your tire, why don't you comeinside and rest?
I remember when this coach andhis coach Ryan coach Ryan was
like listen, if that wore youout, I'll see you tomorrow, and
I remember being angry.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
We're going to do it again.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
That's exactly it.
And he showed up the next dayand he was like listen, the
people around you can do thisfor a minute and you can't do it
for 30 seconds.
I'm pretty sure we have aproblem, and I remember feeling
angry as I was doing the thingshe was asking me to do, because
there was no equipment, therewas no dumbbells, but it's these

(17:34):
simple movements for thisperiod of time, I could not do
them, and I became angry withmyself.
I was like this is probably whythese things haven't happened.
This is why I've been playingso small over here, because this
mirrored other areas of my life.
That was the hardest thing forme to own.
So there comes a moment, though, when you make a decision right
, you make a decision to be allin, and for me, I made a

(17:57):
decision to be all in.
I couldn't just fool aroundwith him for a little bit.
I was like great, you're onboard, you better fucking get me
together.
And you got to get me together, whatever that is, and I'm going
to be open, because that's theother part.
If you're not open, then you'regoing to resist, and then it's
a problem.
I became completely open andmiserable as I went through the
process of getting stronger.

(18:18):
I looked at myself 30 dayslater and I was a different
person.
At what point did you realizethat you had gotten there or
that you were different?

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Well, I feel like I'm always striving to get there.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
Yeah, but you've had big milestones though.
I mean you've had milestoneswhere you can go okay, I did
that, and then that happened.
I mean, you just bought abusiness and I haven't even
gotten there yet, but do youknow anything about this?
Let's not underestimate howmany licensed professionals
there are in all categories, whether it's hair, real estate,

(18:59):
doctor, who have had theirlicense for decades and have not
gotten past having theirlicense.
And again to the person who hastheir license, I'm not knocking
it, but I meet so many of themwho say I would just like to do
more.
More doesn't necessarily meanI'm gonna own a business to make

(19:20):
more money.
It's like more I wannachallenge myself.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Yeah, well, I mean, I just feel like that's a part of
my DNA, because I grew up beinga challenging child, always
asking tons of questions.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
I was a challenging child.
You weren't a challenging child.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
I was so curious.
I was asking too many questionsof adults where they would just
tell me like go stay in thechild's place, like I could see
you doing that too yeah.
I got in trouble a lot becauseI just never was happy with the
status quo, and this is howwe've done it for so long.

(20:00):
We're gonna keep doing it likethis.
Well, what if there is adifferent way to do it?
And that is like one of thethings that I enjoy about being
a hairstylist and behind a chair, because I do get to interact
with different people fromdifferent backgrounds so I can

(20:20):
see the way people think and howmany different opportunities
they have, and that just opensme up to a whole new world of
possibilities for myself.
And I just I gotta keep growing, because if you're not growing,
you can't just be complacentLike you're either growing or

(20:42):
you're dying period.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
Yes, that is correct 100%.
So we make this decision.
Does the world rally around youwhen you decide you're gonna
buy this salon, when you'regonna up your game Like does
money fall from the sky?
Does your sugar daddy show up?

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Well, I want you to pass me passes my number to him
if you find one.
I wanna say people, I have thisphilosophy.
Like I, pretty much I'll makedecisions and I have learned
that, you know, not everybody ison your team, so I make sure

(21:26):
that I am communicating with thepeople that I know that are
gonna support me.
And it's funny, when you make adecision like the universe God,
whatever you wanna call it isgonna start supplying things
that you need to make it happenTotally, and all you gotta do is

(21:48):
just start with making adecision and making one move,
cause once you get clear on thatdecision, other things start to
happen.
And it's not that you don't getany challenges with it, but
things just start appearing andbecause you've shown that you
are committed to what you wantin your cause in your goal.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
Okay, tell me this if you had three things, that you
would three things to the personwho's like I think it's time
that I do this thing that I'vebeen thinking about.
I need to build this thing.
I need to stop what I'm doing.
I make a right turn and go sitdown and build the damn thing.
There were three things thatyou would say to that person
right now.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
First, I would say be clear about what it is that you
want.
Sit down with yourself and makea list of the things.
That's what sparked my decisionto go on a bodybuilding.
I just made a list ofeverything that I wanted to do.
I started making those thingshappen.

(22:54):
I would say just sit down withyourself and make a list of
unbiased lists.
Don't get distracted by otherpeople's opinions.
Just focus on what it is thatyou really want in your heart.
A lot of times, I just feellike we know what we're supposed
to be doing at a very young age.

(23:16):
We just need to go back tothose things that made us happy,
the things that we enjoyeddoing when we were in fourth and
fifth grade.
Those are the things that helpus to identify our gifts and
what our purpose is.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
So don't take those for granted.
And those are the things weshould start building.
Yeah, yes, I love thatAbsolutely.
Sharon Hamner people, dun, dun,dun dun.
I love this client corner.
I am a fan, so I have sharedthis.
I want you to go stalk her.

(23:56):
She is knee deep and the do thedamn thing community, but I am
a fan of her work, her workethic, her consistency and all
of the neat things and, honestto God, I am like front row
waiting to see.
I am like that with excitementand, most importantly, if there
was one question that you werelike, like if there was one

(24:20):
question that you could ask, sharon, I want you to think of
what your biggest challenge iswhat hasn't happened, what's not
on your list and the amount ofprocrastination that you've
allotted yourself in room thatyou don't have.
I can't wait to see you next onbuild the damn thing.
I hope that you start toimplement something that you've

(24:41):
heard in the next 24 hoursbecause, truthfully, if you take
just one of the things that shetalked about, you could be done
in 30 days or less.
See, ya, I hope that episodewas amazing for you and you are
closer to building the damnthing.
I can't wait to hear what yourthoughts were what part you
loved and the action that you'regonna go take, because the
