Speaker 1 (00:00):
The truth is fear
hates movement.
That's one of our philosophieshere at Do the Damn Thing is
that fear hates movement.
And the truth is that whenyou're in movement you are
tricking your mind, you aredistracting your mind from the
fear that it's trying to feed on.
You know, I've heard people saythat fear is not the enemy, and
(00:26):
I completely believe that it'sthe fear that actually is the
motivator If you're toocomfortable, if you feel at ease
and you don't have a sense ofnervousness or a sense of what I
call excitement.
What I call excitement becauseif you actually truly look at
(00:47):
the feeling of nerves or thefeeling of nerves and excitement
are actually the same feeling.
We just label them different.
So if you think about whenyou're nervous, you get the
butterflies in your stomach andyou kind of feel nauseous.
And there are times that youare excited about something and
with that excitement you havethe butterflies and sometimes
you feel a little bit of likenauseousness inside.
They're the same feelings butwe choose to label them
(01:10):
different things to help uscategorize whether we're going
to hold back or whether we'reactually going to be moved
forward in joy and excitement.
Fear if you are not feeling asense of that excitement, that
nervousness, and you feelcomfortable in where you are,
(01:33):
then you're not growing.
I remember my dad used to tellme if you're not growing, you're
falling behind, because theworld is constantly moving
forward.
Look at how we are in ai today.
I mean that for that for sure.
If you're not embracingtechnology, if you're not
learning the new, the directionof where, like, ai is going,
then you're falling behind.
(01:54):
I used to laugh and tease mydad just my parents in general
when we would talk abouttechnology and they were like ah
, you know, we used to do itlike this and why you got this
and this phone.
You know, I don't know how towork this stupid thing he uses
other words but I don't know howto work this stupid thing.
(02:15):
And I would tell him.
I said, dad, I said this is,this is where we're going.
Like, you have to learn.
You don't have to learn all ofit, you don't have to use all of
it, but you need need to beable to stay up to date with
things, because the world isconstantly changing.
Thoughts and beliefs arechanging as more knowledge is
(02:37):
out there, people are makingdifferent moves.
Fear is not your enemy.
Inaction is actually your enemy.
Inaction is actually your enemy.
When you don't make any movementin your life, if you don't move
towards your dreams, if youdon't do the damn thing in the
relationship, if you don't dothe damn thing in your health,
(02:58):
if you don't do the damn thingin your finances, if you don't
do the damn thing in goingthrough and getting stronger in
your spirituality, whatever thatmay be, it's actually staying
stuck and being in the sameplace.
If you look at your life rightnow and you're in the same place
that you were a year ago, thenyou have not grown in the last
(03:19):
year.
If you are part of a coachingprogram or you are working with
a community and you are in thesame place.
If you've invested thousands ofdollars, hundreds of dollars,
twenty eight dollars, and yourlife is in the same place and
you have not it given thatprogram, that coach, that thing,
(03:40):
the opportunity to grow, because you have been stuck in
fear.
When we're stuck in fear, it'sbecause we're holding on to the
(04:00):
past.
We're holding on to the past,we're holding on to an
experience, whether it caused uspain, it caused us financial
loss, it may have caused us tolose some people in our life,
but we get stuck in fear, andsometimes that fear is grounded
way in our story in the past, from something that happened as
(04:22):
a child, and so we don't takethe risk, we don't go through
and we don't give ourselves theopportunity to grow, to try
version one to mess up, becausewe're holding on to the past,
which means if we're holding onto the past, then you can't be
present to the future of whereyou are right now.
(04:43):
If you're holding on to who youused to be, then that means
that you're not paying attentionto where you are right now.
And damn it.
I know that you have done a lotof work in your life.
I know that you have put a lotof effort, I know that you have
made decisions that have pissedpeople off, and the truth is you
should be making more of those.
You should be taking biggerrisks.
(05:05):
Fear hates movement is not onlya statement, but it's a way of
us being.
There are times when I sit backand either I'm writing content,
or I have to write an email, orI'm writing a script for
something that we're doing, andI sit back and I'm like the
(05:34):
internet went out.
It says no internet connectionShit.
That's what happens.
Kayla, do you have internet?
(05:55):
Lower this so that I can seethe band.
(06:18):
We got full bars.
Which one are you connected to?
No, I know, never mind, I'llanswer my own question.
So stop, just stop.
It's still recording.
Yeah, it's still recording.
Do you know where I left off?
You said I don't know.
(06:41):
The pair hates moving.
I got it.
I'll just pick up from here.
You're going to have to edit.
Fear hates movement is not justa statement.
It's a way of being, it's thetruth, it's the opportunity for
(07:02):
you to nope.
Fear hates movement is not justa statement.
It's a way of being.
It's a way of being, it's a wayof showing up when you make
movement.
If you think about it like, there are times that I sit back
sometimes and I'm maybe writinga script, or I'm writing some
emails, or I am looking at ourproduction, and my mind gets
(07:27):
stuck in all of the details, allof the logistics, all of the
self-talk that's coming, thegood, the bad and the negative
self-talk, and all of thechit-chat.
I have this committee in myhead and all of them want to
give their ideas and their pointof view all at the same time.
And there are times that I feelstuck and I sit, sit back, and
(07:50):
I have to shift where I am atthe moment.
I have to physically get up andmove, move around, go for a
walk.
Here I do the damn thing.
In our office and at the storyagency, we're constantly going
for walks and doing what we dowalk and talks so that we can be
in movement, so that our mindsare free and we're not stuck in
(08:11):
this hamster wheel the hamsterwheel that a lot of times is in
the past.
I remember hearing this analogy.
It was actually at a churchservice, of all places, where
this pastor was teaching about.
It was actually at a churchservice of all places, where
this pastor was teaching about.
(08:31):
He said if you ever look atyour car, your windshield is
wide, your windshield is big sothat you can see the direction
that you're going, but your rearview mirror is very small, so
that you have a glimpse of whathappened and where your past was
.
Because back there is whereyour lessons are.
(08:51):
Back there is where yourlearnings are, your stories.
That's where your stories are,the things that helped mold you
and created you, and they'reimportant.
Your story is the number onething that you have that nobody
else has, nobody in your market, nobody in your life has your
(09:13):
story.
They don't have the experiences, they don't have the learnings,
they don't have the momentsthat you made decisions of doing
the damn thing when it made nosense.
What combines us as a humanity,as a society, is that, although
(09:35):
the experiences look different, our emotions of that are the
same, and that's why, when weshare our story, we share our
truth.
We still, even though somebodyhas never had our experience,
they can still relate to thatbecause you talk to the emotion.
You share the emotion of themoment.
The truth of my story is thatfor six and a half years I had
(09:58):
created this habit of usingalcohol and using drugs.
I was on crystal meth.
For six and a half years I lostmy spirit.
I lost my soul.
I was in such this place of notloving myself, of not owning my
truth, that I would numb myselfthrough drinking, through drugs
(10:20):
.
I lived in LA and was inHollywood, and so there was this
nightlife and this perceptionof happiness that Hollywood
brings to you.
But the truth is I didn't lovemyself and I didn't own my truth
.
And because I didn't own mytruth and I didn't like how I
was showing up, I would drink, Iwould get high, I'd have sex,
(10:45):
looking for love in all thewrong places Because I wasn't
happy with me, I wasn't owningmy truth, I wasn't showing up
for me.
It was actually going throughand making movement that began
(11:12):
to change things Movement inthinking, movement in
physicality.
One of the greatest things isthat if you're not happy in
where you are in life, look atyour environment.
Who are the people that you'rearound?
What are the things that you'reconsuming?
(11:33):
The books, the music, thetelevision shows that you're
consuming?
The books, the music, thetelevision shows.
I rarely watch any TV showsanymore because it's such trash.
I hate that we're feeding thismoment of anger.
I don't watch the news veryoften because I don't want to
see the ugliness that's in there.
(11:54):
And the more that peopleconsume it, the more that they
begin to live in that emotion ofwhatever they're watching.
When you think about television, television is telling a vision,
television, television.
(12:15):
And when you turn on atelevision, you watch a channel
that is channeling a message.
And when you turn on and youwatch that particular channel,
whether it be a Fox News, cnn,tbt or TNT, whatever that
(12:37):
channel is you begin to watchtheir programming and they begin
to program your mind, theybegin to program your beliefs.
They begin to program you tobelieve what you're watching on
the television.
So they give you the vision youtune into the channel and then
(12:58):
they begin to program you.
I want you to right now take ainventory.
What are you watching?
What music are you listening to?
What type of content do youwatch on social media?
Who are you listening to?
(13:22):
Shit?
Even as you listen to me, I'msharing a message.
I'm sharing a vision, because Isee the vision of you doing the
damn thing and living the lifethat you truly want.
It's a choice.
You have to make a cleardecision what do you want in
(13:46):
your life?
And then you go through and youconsume the content that
actually gets you into thedirection that you want.
Fear hates movement because itstops you from being stuck.
It gets you present.
(14:10):
Fear doesn't want you to be inthe moment.
Fear doesn't want you to be inwhat's possible.
Fear is actually a really greatthing.
Fear proves and is evidencethat something is different or
(14:35):
something is going to change Inyour life.
Right now.
I want you to take the inventoryof where are you?
What are you consuming?
Who are the people that you'rearound?
Are you around people that aredreamers?
(14:55):
Are you around people that aredoing the damn thing in their
life?
Are you sitting back with thepeople that are stuck, the
people that haven't made anymoves in their life?
They're in the same job,complaining.
Now, if you're in a job thatyou love and that's feeding your
soul and your spirit, then yes,in other areas I'm sure that
they've made movement.
But if you're around peoplethat are in the same job and you
(15:18):
go to dinner with them and allthey do is complain about how
much they hate it and the peoplethat they work with and they
just can't wait till Fridaycomes around or that they get
their paycheck and they can goout and they can go drink and
they can numb themselves andforget about what they're doing,
that's not the people that youwant to be around.
If you're trying to grow andmake movement in your life, what
(15:43):
city do you live?
What town do you live in?
Are they people that areholding you back, that don't
understand that there's a wholeworld out there, don't
understand that there's a wholeworld out there?
I remember when I, when I grewup in LA and in junior high and
high school I attended thissmall town up in Kern County and
(16:09):
I remember when I first movedup there it was like there were
people who had never even heardof like Los Angeles and maybe
they've heard of it from likemovies and things like that but
they had no idea of what'spossible out there, like they
had never experienced LosAngeles.
And to me it was great.
It's like everything the movieswere out there, the beach was
out there, there's tallbuildings, there's life and
(16:31):
energy.
And to them they only knew thissmall town of growing up in the
beautiful mountains ofTehachapi and watching this
gorgeous sunset and being onthese apple orchards.
And you know, they were used tothe small town life, to be in a
(17:01):
city, to see a different way ofliving, and it shocked me.
Now, mind you, I had never seenso many cows on one property.
I'd never seen so many otherthings like that.
So this small town was a newexperience for me as well.
But when you look at yourenvironment, does your
environment and the place thatyou live and the places that you
go, does it feed your soul?
Does it keep you moving forward?
(17:21):
Does it help you get to thethings that you say you want to
get to Making movement in yourlife is going to piss people off
, because you're going to havepeople that just don't
understand.
They don't get it.
Either they don't get it orthey don't want to get it.
(17:42):
Like they've been exposed to anew idea but they choose not to.
They choose to stay stuck.
They choose to stay here.
Too often, we're comfortable inour discomfort that we'll choose
to stay there versus steppinginto something that's unknown
and this unknown happiness orthis unknown growth.
(18:04):
I know what it's like to bepissed off.
I know what it's like to beangry.
I know what it's like to behurt.
I know what it's like to becheated on.
I know what it's like to betaken advantage of and yes, it
sucks and yes it hurts, but shit, I know it.
So I'm going to stay hereversus actually looking at
what's possible.
On the other end, if I do this, you're telling me, if I go over
(18:32):
here, I might find happiness.
You're telling me that if Imake the decision or I begin to
tell my story and I clear outthe people that are not in my
life, you're telling me that Ican be happier.
What, what?
It's a different story thanwhat's over here, and so we sit
here, we're like, nope, I'mgonna stay right here, versus
(18:53):
giving yourself the opportunityto see something different, to
live in something different.
Fear wants us to be here.
The truth is, fear is a way ofprotecting ourselves, because
(19:20):
there's a possibility of gettinghurt by doing something
different, and our brain iswired so that we don't get hurt,
so that we don't feel the pain.
It's just like when we teach akid don't touch the hot stove.
It really only takes one or twotimes of touching the hot stove
and you realize, ah, that's hot, and you don't do it again.
(19:40):
Or, if you're like me, whenyou're cooking tortillas in an
open flame, you do it real quick, you flip it real fast so that
you don't burn yourself.
Your brain is wired to helpprotect you and so it keeps you
in that fear.
It keeps you in this moment ofdon't do that because you're
going to get hurt.
(20:01):
And the truth is that whenyou're doing the damn thing,
there are moments that you aregoing to get hurt.
And the truth is that whenyou're doing the damn thing,
there are moments that you aregoing to feel.
You're going to feel growth, and we may label it as pain.
Yeah, it's going to hurt.
Yeah, there are going to besome people that we have to let
go of.
Yeah, there are going to besome relationships that we're to
(20:24):
let go of.
Yeah, there are going to besome relationships that we're
going to need to end.
Yes, it may require us to closea business that we've been
building.
Yes, it's going to require usto move into a different
location, but by making thatmovement, you're going to get to
(20:46):
the happiness, to the joy andto the peace of mind that you
deserve, that I believe Godcreated you, created me, created
us all to experience.
Stop making excuses, stopliving in your past.
Bring your past with you, butremember that the view and the
(21:08):
rear view mirror is small, butyour windshield to the future is
so wide.
And so, and do the damn thing, and remember fear hates movement
.
