(00:04):
Welcome aboard bus one. We're on our way to San
Francisco, CA for the West Regional of our annual March
Madness trivia tournament, and we've got some time to kill.
Let's play some trivia. She's 57, hailing from
Indianapolis, IN. We have our four seed, Caroline.
(00:28):
He's 5 foot eight and three quarter inches hailing from
Kokomo, IN. We have our three seed Ethan,
get on your feet. He's 57, hailing from
Cincinnati. Didn't get that.
Right, we have our two seed Calvin.
(00:52):
Too small. Too small.
And finally, he's 6 foot 4 inches separate measurements.
Hailing from Westfield, IN we have our one seed Logan.
I this is a state that one seed.Well, with it being basketball
(01:15):
tournament season in March, we are once again going head to
head to head to head in a March Madness style bracket.
Only the top two performers in today's contest will move on to
the final Four. But don't worry, today's episode
isn't all about basketball. In fact, I'm not even sure what
it's about yet. That's because for this year's
(01:37):
tourney, the contestants have also provided the topics and
trivia questions. Here's how it will work.
Every player has written 4 questions on a mini topic of
their choice. Each question one player will
pose a prepared multiple choice trivia question to the other
three players. The first one to buzz in with
(01:57):
the right answers scores a fieldgoal of two points.
Think you know the answer without the multiple choice?
Then you can take a long shot answer for three points.
But be careful, if you miss a three pointer, your air ball
shot will cost you -1 point for humiliation.
Air. Ball.
(02:24):
And everybody gets free chicken Nuggets, French fries.
And if no one is correct, even with the multiple choice, that's
good defense, which gives the question asker an advantage for
writing such a tough question. There will be 4 quarters with
each player getting a chance to be the question asker 4 times,
(02:46):
but we'll rotate the question asker within the quarters to
keep the scoring opportunities balanced.
As the referee, I'll be keeping a close eye to make sure there's
no funny business on the court. Travelling is OK though.
He's holding a whistle right nowand he's dressed as a referee
(03:06):
for our for our make sure he's. Dressed as referee.
Also. Also, there will be no challenge
question, there'll be no cappingon the court.
No capping on the. First and second highest points
on the board at the end. Will win a trip to the Final
(03:26):
Four in San Antonio, TX in a couple weeks where they will
compete for the title of March Madness Trivia Tournament
champion. Nice.
And with that, let's get into the first quarter.
We do not know the rights to March Madness.
We do not own the rights to March Madness.
We'll say that every time we sayMarch Madness, which we do not
own the rights to. We'll start off with our four
(03:49):
seed Caroline asking her first question, if you wouldn't mind
telling us what your mini topic is?
My mini topic is actually all things ask it all surprise.
Surprise. Everything OK?
All right, First step. The IU Purdue rivalry has
(04:11):
spanned decades, sports and coaching changes.
One of the most well known coaches from the series is Bob
Knight, who's best known today for his infamous chair throw and
ejection 5 minutes into play during the IU Purdue game at
Assembly Hall in February of 1985.
But what was the score from thisgame?
(04:32):
A 8275 Indiana, B 7263 Purdue. C 6664 Purdue or D7770 Indiana
Logan. I'm going to go C6664 Purdue.
(04:53):
That is incorrect. I'm also going to go with.
Well, not C I'm also going to gowith.
See if it pays off for him, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm also going to go with Purdue
winning BI. Think it would be humorous?
(05:13):
B is correct. Let's go.
His name was. 72 Dunk Dunk 3. Purdue Dunk, dunk. 5 foot 8 3/4
Ethan just slam dunk. In B space.
The yeah, 'cause you got it wrong, idiot.
It's like bugs. No, just kidding.
Yeah, that was a good guess. Oh yeah.
(05:42):
Sorry. All right, that one goes to
Ethan. Our next question asker will be
our three seat. Ethan, let's.
Go. So everyone, what do you think
of when you think of March? I know what I think of.
Springtime flowers, yeah. Saint Patrick's Day.
Yeah, Yeah. Green.
(06:07):
Easter. This is this is not for points,
this is just for me. Well, I'm a little disappointed
nobody said Women's History Month.
That's my question. Right.
March is about madness, but alsoabout women because they're
(06:28):
awesome. Question one from women's
History Month. What is the annual theme of
Women's History Month? This year, a moving forward
together, women educating and inspiring generations was
(06:50):
everybody. Laughing.
Yeah. Logan, why are you laughing?
Because he hates women. I can't believe we're here.
We were just talking about basketball, OK?
B women's history promises to keep CA patchwork of many lives
(07:14):
or D celebrating women of character, courage, and
commitment did. You say all of them did.
You say? Calvin, you're the first one.
I would like to lock in D. Unfortunately.
That sounded the most inspiring for oh.
That is sweet though, that. Is sweet though.
(07:35):
Not this year. Not this year.
Maybe next year well. Did you make these up or did you
look at past things? No, I thought it would be
disrespectful to make them up soit's past ones.
They all. Say you're next a it feels.
That's what I was gonna say. Is correct.
(07:57):
Damn it. See.
Ohh, nice work. How?
Just gone with it when I asked. How?
What was it? What was that one?
It was a moving forward together, women educating and
inspiring generations. Wow.
That's a great theme. All right, that's a tough fact
(08:18):
to follow. Calvin, what is your?
Topic. Well, I suppose it's appropriate
to transition into Board of the Rings at this point.
Nice, nice, nice. So good luck everybody.
You ever gonna mess right? Or Ballers.
Good luck, Ballers. In order to enter the minds of
(08:41):
Moria, I want you to fill in theblank here.
Speak. Blank and enter.
Is it a? Logan has buzzed, buzzed.
Logan has buzzed in for a three-point shot.
The. The word you're looking for is
friend. Logan, that is our first 3
pointer. Logan never make that motion
(09:04):
again. It.
Actually was a swish I saw it. Yeah, it went in.
Three points. Okay, well done.
That is the end of our first quarter, believe it or.
Not. Never mind, it's not.
(09:27):
I forgot, Logan says. To it you got a bunch of beat in
here. Logan, what is your topic?
Well, when you guys think of March, what's the first thing
you think? Women's history market.
Women's history market. The the answer I'm looking for
is balls of any type, all types of balls.
Balls of any type. Balls of any type.
(09:49):
All types of balls. All types of sports balls.
There we go. I was going to do all types of
balls, but there's just too manyfacts about sports balls.
So the big balls outside target are not part of this.
Stay tuned. That's.
Not a no. The first question is which
(10:12):
civilization is believed to haveinvented the first rubber ball?
Oh, Calvin's got to be locked. In.
The first OK, is it the Mayan? Civilization.
It is not the Mayan civilization.
Calvin, with the air ball, sendshim to -1.
(10:39):
All right, so your choices are athe Aztecs, B the Olmecs, C the
Incas, or D the Mayans. Oh, he wiped one off the board.
Ethan's up. Logan I'm going to go with
Aztecs because they loved sacrificing people from sports
(11:00):
games. That is incorrect.
I like I like your thought process there, even if it is
inaccurate probably. Can you remind me?
What the other two were. The other two were B the Olmecs
(11:20):
and C the Incas. I'm gonna.
Go with C, the Incas. That was some solid defense
right there. That was so solid defense.
You know, I should have gone with Olmecs because O is nice
and round. Yeah, it's very Boboba the.
Olmecs it's. What?
It's. Booba, booba, OK.
(11:41):
Aztecs Kiki. Yeah, Aztecs is Kiki.
For the listeners at home. There's nothing that can help.
There's that can help. Believe.
Now. Sex is Kiki, olmex is buba.
What I mean, it explains it's. Two online I.
Think you mean what are you talking?
About this is a like a psychology experiment thing.
(12:05):
I don't. Think it.
Is. No.
It is it is. What about in psych class?
It's just like, do you associatethis with Buba or Kiki and
typically things that are like like round or like soft vibe
arbooba and things that are likesharp or sudden vibe.
In my five years of taking psychclasses, I have never.
(12:26):
Don't work. I guarantee this has come up.
You must have been asleep, not. Any of my psych classes but go
off. I guess that's why he's.
Rough. I know Ball.
Don't make me blow the whistle. The whistle's Kiki.
Whistle is very Kiki. Well, that's the end of the
(12:47):
first quarter for sure this time.
And with that good defense, Logan has shut out his
opponents. He's in the lead with a three
pointer. 3 points for Logan. Caroline and Ethan are tied at 2
and Calvin has a hole of -1 he'sgot to climb out of.
What do I get for a good defense?
Something about advantage. Yeah, your advantage is no one
(13:07):
else scored points on that. Oh.
Nephew so. That's an advantage.
I guess the. Advantage is that points no one
else got. Logan does not accept.
Well, that brings us to our second quarter.
So let's head back to Caroline for her second question.
(13:28):
My second question I have which of these options is not a rule
change in college basketball? This year, or like ever?
Ever. So no, we have trouble with the
what is versus what is not. So you're picking the one that
doesn't fit. From the 1967 and 1968 season,
(13:52):
the dunk was made illegal duringthe game and warm up, but was
made legal again during game time only in 7677 and again in
warmups starting in 2015. 2016 B.
Coaching during timeouts was illegal from 19101911 to the
19481949 season. C Until the 19 2019 21 season,
(14:19):
players could climb the padded walls of the gym in an attempt
to get closer to the basket and score.
And. D The shot clock was previously
50 seconds, being officially changed to 30 seconds in 2015.
We've. Got Ethan with the first Buzz
you. Can see Logan thinking the
wheels are are turning. Ethan, what do you got?
(14:42):
There's a few of those that are too crazy to pick.
I love the idea of players climbing the foam pattern, so
I'm not going to pick that one, but instead I'm going to go with
D, the shot clock being changed.D is correct.
Damn it. Snatched it.
So the shot clock was first introduced in the 1980 five 1986
(15:04):
season at 45 seconds is changed to 35 seconds the 9394 season
and again to the 30 seconds thatwe know today in 20/15/2016.
Nice. Well done.
All right, Ethan, it is now yourturn to ask another Women's
History Month question. I'm so excited for this Alec
(15:24):
Question 2 for me, or I don't know what question it is
generally, but who was the 1st president to recognize Women's
History Week? The week part is important
because it started as a day moveto week.
Now we got month A Richard Nixon, B John F Kennedy, C
(15:50):
Ronald Reagan or D Jimmy Carter.Logan post up.
Going with my boy Nixon. While he was.
While he was famous for other things, it wasn't women I guess.
(16:13):
Caroline, you're up. I want to say Jimmy Carter
probably introduced Women's History Month.
I'm going to go with JFK. Not JFK.
Not JFK, rats and Calvin. Final chance with the 5050.
It's a 5050. I've got Ronald Reagan and I've
got Jimmy Carter. That's right.
(16:34):
My heart tells me Jimmy Carter. That's right, Calvin.
My. Heart.
Sees you, I was going to bait you into that for a little bit
and be like, well sorry, that's not true.
And then I was going to come back with, but my mind says.
(16:56):
But it doesn't matter, I got thepoint.
He's just going to try to trick us like there's no capping on
the court, Calvin. Oh, capping on the court,
Calvin. Well.
That way so me don't make me Kiki.
You don't. OK, Calvin gets 2 points and now
he's on the board officially with one point.
All right, in Calvin, it is now your turn to ask another Lord of
(17:17):
the Rings question. Oh my gosh.
Yes, yes, yes. Well, I would like to award two
or three points. We'll see.
What is the name? Gandalf is known to the elves?
Is it A Thorin, B Glorfandel, C Celleborn or D Mithrandier?
(17:42):
We got Ethan in first. Since I don't know, I'm going to
go with a. Yes, and for.
Everybody else in Ethan's shoes right now a was Thorin, and
Thorin is incorrect. I haven't read the books, but
(18:05):
I've seen the movies. I I want to go with Dee.
I feel like I've heard that before.
That's what I was going to. See Caroline that is 2 points.
Smithereen deer is. Sorry, Logan.
Well done, Caroline, pulling that one out, all right.
Logan on the Trees episode 2. John asked a question about the
(18:28):
ants and I just guessed. Caroline really good guessing
Lord of the Rings lore. He's like, what happened to
them? It's.
Easy to predict, it comes naturally to her.
It's innate. I'm.
A nerd at heart. All right, Logan, give us your
ball question. OK, so you guys know billiards
balls? Yeah.
(18:51):
What? Color is the 13 ball anyone?
Great question. I'm supposed to be.
Multiple choice. It is multiple choice.
I'm just giving time if anybody knows the answer.
OK, I'm going to go to multiple choice.
I'm thinking about it. A Is it candy red and white?
(19:13):
B Is it purple and white? C Is it orange and white or D is
it dark red and white? All right, Ethan's in first.
I have this odd feeling that it's orange and white.
You should listen to your odd feelings more often.
(19:33):
It is orange and white. Let's go.
I have this. Odd feeling.
It's orange and white. I'm saying before, actually, All
right, well, that was the buzzerfor halftime.
At the end of the first half. Everybody's on the board.
(19:56):
We've got Calvin with one point,Logan with three points,
Caroline with four points, but Ethan's in the lead with six
points. All right, let's go to our
halftime audience question. Well, that does it for the half
in the West Regional of the Bus 1 March Madness trivia tourney.
Still plenty of game left to seewho will earn their ticket to
(20:17):
the Final Four in San Antonio. Ain't that right, Rich?
That's exactly right, Alec. And you know, these are some
fierce competitors. They all had to know a lot of
trivia even to get to this point.
I wouldn't write any of them offjust yet.
That's a great point, Rich. You know, just because you're
seated higher does not guaranteeyou'll move on.
And, you know, that's something we even asked our audience in
(20:38):
last week's audience question. We were wondering who out there
knew the four one seeds in this year's NCAA Tournament.
The first one to write in with the four one seeds, Duke,
Auburn, Houston and Florida was Mr. NYLT, an all time leader in
audience question scoring. Another W for Mr. NYLT, but this
week we're really wondering who knows?
(20:59):
Ball? That's right, we've got an
audience question based on the big concrete balls outside of a
Target. These balls are actually just
branded bollards to prevent vehicles from driving into the
store. But how much do they weigh
again? How much does a target ball
weigh? Closest wins on this one, folks.
Write in your weight guesses in the comments on Spotify, YouTube
(21:21):
or on this week's Instagram postfor a chance at earning a point.
I bet they're pretty heavy, Al. Well, what?
But wouldn't you take Rich? Guilty.
All right, that's enough messingaround here on the sidelines.
Let's get back to the second-half of the West Regional
matchup, only on Bus 1 Trivia. All right, we're back from
(21:45):
halftime. Let's get started with our third
quarter. We are once again ready for
Caroline to ask another question.
Some believe that March Madness reigned supreme in the world of
college basketball, wishing thatthe national championship was a
federal holiday. I don't know if this is actually
(22:05):
true, so don't quote me on it. There are other holidays that we
recognize practically no reason at all.
Which of these, quote UN quote, national holidays does not take
place during the March Madness tournament?
This year it's from March 18th through April 7th.
We have a National Near Miss Daycommemorating the day the Earth
(22:30):
almost got hit by asteroid 4581 Aslepius in 1989.
Nice, nice. B National.
Joe Day. C National.
Wait, that's. Awesome.
C National Girl Me Too Day or D or D National Big Wind Day,
(23:00):
which commemorates the recordingof the highest natural wind gust
measured on the Earth's surface. This is awesome.
Wow. I'm just going to go with option
A, the Near Miss Day, because ifthat asteroid had actually hit
us, then we want to be celebrating any of these
holidays. So true A.
(23:22):
Is unfortunately incorrect. It's celebrated on March 23rd,
which is during the tournament. But it was only it was like the
size of a mountain, you know, nobiggie's behind and it it only
came within 500,000 miles of us.So, like, we're good.
How can I forget? We're.
Good. When was that near miss?
(23:44):
1989. OK.
Ethan. So just to clarify for me this
is a which one is not question. Correct.
Which of these holidays does notfall within March Madness of
this year? Got it.
What was D again? National Big Win Day.
It can't be that big. Because you know about that
(24:05):
anything you're gonna. Go with D.
It's wind. Wind D OH.
Yeah, I think they. Must know a lot about wind.
Oh my God, National. Wind Day is celebrated on April
(24:26):
12th. It celebrates the Mount
Washington Observatory recordingthe natural wind gusts that we
know of. We don't really know of it.
That's 231 mph. It was logged on April 12th,
1934 pretty well. What?
Where was that? Where did that happen at?
(24:48):
Mount Washington Observatory. Oh, where is that?
That might not even. Be they got blown away they
don't exist. Gusty.
They got taken out by that asteroid.
Gusty, All right, that with thatwindy question, we are on to
(25:10):
Ethan for another Women's Month History Month question.
Thanks for the full intro there,Alec.
Yeah, my question, So not to call anybody out, but which
sorry. I'm blocking it.
I'm blocking Moss. Which of the following states
(25:34):
was not one of the 1st 14 statesto declare March Women's History
Month before it was officially declared in 1987?
We have a Florida B Ohio C Wisconsin.
(25:58):
Sorry, somebody buzzed in. Oh, but I didn't see it.
Who was it? It was me.
Calvin, he's going for it for a three pointer.
As a resident of Cincinnati, OH,that feels like kind of an Ohio
thing to do, so I'll say B Ohio. That's right.
(26:19):
Ohio. That's Ohio 3.
Pointer. Gosh, he's behind the line.
I saw. All right.
And with that, can you? Play on that.
Can we see if it's totally put you?
Online, No it's not. Within the final two minutes,
the scores table. Calling the play and.
It's not within the final two minutes of the game.
(26:40):
We don't have to review every scoring play, OK?
Dang. Calvin, you are up for another
Lord of the Rings question. Yes.
So here in quarter three, what race is Smeagol?
Logan posting up for another 3. Logan.
(27:02):
He's a Hobbit. I feel like I'm just serving
Logan up at this point. Smeagol is a Hobbit we.
Cannot be giving this away to Logan.
I'm the one seed guys. He's the one seed for reason.
That's going to get mad. I've answered two questions
right. I'm.
(27:22):
Mad. I'm mad right now. 3 pointers
on. Calvin's question.
All right, and Logan, it's time for your.
Ball question yes. Back to balls.
Back to balls, yes, Sorry, it's just so many ball questions.
What is What is the maximum number of holes or indentations
(27:47):
allowed in a professional bowling ball?
Oh. Is it a 5B3, C8 or D12 all
right? Ethan well, you know, if you
(28:09):
turn 8 on its side, it's like Infinity.
So I'm going to go with that. No reason.
No reason really. Just likes the shape of it.
That's not correct. Ohh, really interesting and
(28:30):
shocks you guess Caroline, you're up I.
I'm gonna go with the standard 3because I feel like if you're a
professional, you've worked withthe ball enough and fit the ball
that it it's like yours. Yeah.
Fits your fingers. Right.
And you'd think that, but that'snot the case.
Well, that's. Stupid.
(28:51):
That's how you can have. More holes.
You can have more holes if you want, but how many more?
Not be allowed. Well, I believe the question
also specified holes or indentations.
Correct. So can you just design a ball
that you know you hold on one side, but it's got other
indentations on the other side? Yeah. 12 seems crazy so I'm
(29:15):
going to go with 12. That was some good defense right
there, guys, no. 1 knows enough about balls.
Not a big, not a big ball group. Not a big.
This group does not know ball. I wouldn't say so.
The correct answer was 5, which is the number of fingers you
have on one hand by the way. I still don't know why that's
(29:39):
helpful though. That seems horrible to.
Put all. Five fingers in a bowling ball.
They're not normally holes. They can be holes, but normally
they're just indentations that you can use like put your hand
to grip. But they can be holes if you
want them to be holes. That's kind of gross, man.
I was getting. I literally this was my thought
process. I was like OK, they can probably
(30:01):
bowl with two hands if they want, which would be 10, but
some people have 6 fingers and they're very so the.
Maximum to be inclusive is. 12 Oh man.
The accessibility game. People that had six fingers on
both. Yeah, we get.
(30:22):
Off with. Professional bowling right now
with. Both.
Hands, you're not being very inclusive.
That's awesome. Now all I can think about is
that one video, the guy who whenhe won just went, Oh yeah, I
think you are right. That's right.
All right. Well, you could say that was a
(30:43):
gutterball from everyone else onthat.
And that brings us to the end ofour third quarter.
Another advantage from Logan if he chooses to recognize it that
way. Our score update at the end of
the third quarter. With only one quarter to go,
we've got a tie. Kale, Calvin and Caroline both
have 4, Logan has 6 and Ethan's on top with eight.
(31:09):
So a close game a. Very close game.
Hey, I'm. Calling him No, I'm not going to
say that yet. Overtime would be safe.
I I'm hoping we go into overtime, otherwise I wrote
these questions for nothing. OK, we've got the fourth quarter
happening now. Caroline, give us your final
(31:29):
question. College basketball is home to
top tier meltdowns from coaches, players, and fans alike.
From Bob Knight's iconic chair throw, Fran Mccaffrey's Francon
alert system, and Dan Hurley's overall attitude, some people
just need to take a chill pill. That being said, when were mood
(31:50):
stabilizers first approved for use in the US by the FDA?
Oh, I thought you were going to say 4 coaches.
Like no, for general use mood stabilizers approved by the FDA.
Like in general in the US? Yep, FDA.
Yeah, let. Me, give you a minute to think
if anybody wants to take a shot.Yeah, too many years to choose
(32:11):
from. Yeah.
I have a couple in mind. OK so here are the options.
We have a 1954 B 1970 C 1817 or D1966 Ethan.
(32:38):
In my research for Women's history, I I learned about.
Sorry, are you making an assumption that we need
stabilizers? No, no, let me finish, Let me
finish, Let me finish. I learned.
No idea about the whistle. Don't call it technical.
Let me, let me. I learned that the pill was
(33:03):
approved in 1960, so my thought process is perhaps 1970 would be
a similar time frame. And not 1966.
No, no, not 1966. OK, so you'd be.
Correct. What?
The hell Oh. My God, you all left Awful he.
(33:24):
Said he had a few, a couple of. Months you all left. 1970 was
when lithium specifically was approved for use in the US, but
1817 was when lithium was first found in Australian and Chilean
mines. The effects were recognized
later in that same century, but it wasn't approved for public
(33:46):
use, having been tested and everything until 1970.
Lithium. Wait, Lithium?
Lithium like the element. Yeah, yeah.
If you're bipolar, they give youlithium.
Yep. Just like Dan Hurley, lithium,
like the metal. Wait.
That's crazy. It sounds like that doesn't
sound real. Lithium minor you think it's?
(34:07):
Metal. You're telling me lithium miners
are mad, Jill? Like what?
Their mood is so stable. That's crazy.
All right. I don't have a transition,
Ethan. Turn.
I'll take it from there. The. 19th Amendment, which
(34:32):
granted women the right to vote, was signed into law on August
26th, 1920, but at the time, a number of other laws prohibited
many women from voting. Still, it wasn't until 1965
until President Lyndon B Johnsonassigned the Voting Rights Act
(34:52):
into law, and then all women or all the discretionary tactics
were outlawed. Basically.
Black. And which of these things were
not invented? This is a not question before
this so that the date to it the history.
(35:13):
No, OK, no history life in therefor.
Anything. Yeah, I just wanted to throw
that in there. It's on my mind.
So yeah, the year was 1965. Which of these things was not
invented beforehand? A.
The video disc. B basic programming language.
(35:37):
C Lava lamp or D Hand held calculator, Alvin.
This is just a shot in the. Car waiting too long?
But Lava Lamp feels like the Crazy 1 and that's what I'm
going to go with. They had lava lamps.
They were watching those orbs float.
Sorry. Sorry.
(36:02):
I love those. Sorry.
I love lamp. I love lamp.
Nathan, by video disc do you mean CD?
Yeah, I use ChatGPT. I don't know video disc is video
disc is different. Or is it OK?
My bad. Like video, DVD, digital video,
(36:23):
disc? Isn't that what DVD is?
I think so. I think DVD.
OK, that was tripping me up for a bit.
What was the last option again? Handheld calculator.
I'm going to go with the the video disc.
They had video discs unfortunately.
Interesting. Logan, you have the basic
programming language or handheldcalculator.
(36:44):
The basic programming language or the handheld calculator,
1965. That's right, I'm.
Going to go the handheld calculator.
That's right, Logan, they did not have those.
Let's go. Losers.
In the math up here and on theirlittle things.
And I think, I think the video disk thing, like somehow I don't
(37:07):
know how I've seen like it's like the size of a vinyl record
and it's like a video disk. Yeah, they have vinyl.
I have heard of that, but I was trying to look it up to see what
you mean by videodisc because itcould mean several different.
Things. Yeah, that's why I was confused.
Do you know what? The first thing I was thinking
of was like the big vinyl disc that did video.
(37:28):
And coding or whatever. I'm showing a picture that
looked like Logan and. You're saying it was something?
Oh, OK, You can. Yeah.
The concept of storing video on vinyl like discs.
It emerged in the 1960s. Wow.
That's right. I had 1963.
There you go. Specifically.
All right, so that one goes to. Logan three-way tie, right?
No, Ethan just got two points before that.
(37:52):
Dang, it is not a three-way tie.Well, I don't know Logan.
You just got that one, didn't you?
Yeah. So it's a two way tie and then
Ethan's winning. Right.
No, you're ahead of There's no nobody's tie.
Calvin and Caroline are still tied at 4:00.
Oh. Ethan has 10 and Logan has 8.
All right, sorry. I was winning by more than I
thought. He you had six points because
(38:13):
you had two threes before that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He's a three-point shooter. And with that mini score update,
we're the the timers running outon on this episode.
Calvin, it's time for your finalquestion.
All right, throwing up another question here.
Logan's been able to three-pointthese, so I need everyone else
(38:33):
this. Is bad.
This is bad. What is the name of the spider
that captures Frodo? Is it A Aragog B, Arachne, C,
Aridney, D. Oh, we got Ethan buzzed in.
Ethan. Well, I've one of the reasons I
(38:54):
buzzed in early is because I didn't want to get Logan taking
a taking a shot at this. So I'm putting it up early.
I'm going to go with Aragog because it sounds cool.
Aragog, I agree sounds cool, butunfortunately that is not the
answer I'm. Looking I'm leaving the door
(39:15):
open. Can you read that last option,
Kevin? Option D Shelob.
All right, now she's Logan. Sorry.
She. She loved on my it's she loved
though. Yes.
(39:39):
That. Is a love with that Logan ties
Ethan at 10. Points.
Oh, it's a it's a close game. And use some overtime.
All right. Oh, except I can't win.
Logan cannot score points. Yeah, Ethan can.
What is the last second here? Ethan can win this right now,
(40:03):
otherwise it's going into overtime.
Logan is your final ball question.
All right, we're talking about sports balls.
We're talking about the smallestsports ball.
What is the smallest professional sport ball?
Is it A the squash ball? Is it B the golf ball?
(40:23):
Is it C the table tennis ball? Or is it D the bocce ball?
Jack. Ethan buzzed in.
Ethan. 'S first.
Oh oh, I'm picturing. I'm like thinking about holding
them. I don't know picture about
picture holding them, yes. I'm I'm not holding them all at
(40:46):
once because I would drop them but.
Which is smallest when you hold them in your head.
In my head, the ping pong ball is the smallest.
Suck it, Ethan. That's wrong.
No, no, no. Brick.
No. All right.
Brick, brick. Well, we'll let this play out.
(41:09):
Caroline, what is your answer? I'm going to go with the bocce
ball, Jack, because I feel like the squash ball is big enough to
like it. It has to be heavy, kind of like
a tennis ball to hit against thewall.
So I feel like it has to be bigger to disperse more of the
weight. So you said the Jack?
Yeah, the bocce ball Jack. That's wrong.
(41:30):
It's not the Jack. Man the defense on Logan's
questions. Well, they got some kind of
advantage instead. You get enough.
You do. You literally do okay Calvin,
your dad do a 5050 on this, yes?I've been in this situation
before. Between squash balls or tennis
(41:51):
balls or golf balls. Golf balls and squash balls.
I'm gonna say the squash ball. Squash ball is correct.
It is. It is smaller than a golf ball
by like 2mm, yeah. And I could tell when I hold
them in my hands, I know that's 2mm shorter.
(42:12):
Smaller. Play squash ball on a regular
basis. That's sick.
He's a squash. Really.
He's a squash guy. He's a squash.
Squash, Squash, all right, And Calvin scores the final basket
of the game. He throws in a layup just as
time expires. He ends with six points.
Caroline ends with four points. Nice showing to both of you.
But Ethan and Logan are tied at 10.
(42:36):
So technically, as two people move on, we don't even have to
go into overtime because you go,you go through the time, go in
overtime if you want. To it feels.
It feels wrong not to. Do it true.
All right, these questions. Let's hear the official winner
(42:58):
of the episode. Hopefully we'll settle this in
overtime. The overtime topic is too close
to call, finishes, all right? It's too close to call.
It's too close to go. All right.
Question one of overtime. Overtime question one.
In racing sports, a dead heat occurs when a clear winner
(43:20):
cannot be determined and playersare awarded a tie.
Dead heats are very rare since the advent of advanced timing
mechanisms. But in which sport are they
still a fairly common occurrence?
A Horse racing. B Formula 1C swimming or D Track
(43:43):
events. Ethan's buzzed in.
My initial thought was horse racing.
I don't know if I want to stick with that, but that's probably
what I'm going to say, All right?
Horse racing is incorrect, Dang it.
They are pretty darn rare in horse racing since since there's
(44:04):
like digital photo finishes and stuff now.
I have a. Yeah, but there's digital photo
finishes for every sport. Yeah.
Yeah, it's true. They're all.
But there are some timing differences in different sports.
OK, so the other options were Track events, Formula One or.
Swimming is the last one. Swimming.
(44:25):
I'm gonna go swimming because itmay be hard to tell underwater.
That's what I would have. That was my second guess.
That is correct. Swimming still has a fairly
number of dead heats because they only measure to the 100th
of a second. The official time stops at the
100th of a second. So it's pretty common for you
(44:46):
them to still tie. And it's supposedly because
there's can be a difference in the length of the pool from lane
to lane. So to account for that, like
over a long race, it really addsup.
So to account for that they justsay we're only rounding to the
hundredths place. Interesting.
Just be a tie if not. That's interesting.
(45:09):
Do you think it's? Programmed the sensors and the
walls to that. But it wouldn't solve the issue
of the lanes being a little bit longer or shorter.
Like if your pool is just a little bit not parallel over the
course of like 50 laps or in a long race, then that person gets
a pretty big advantage. Or you could just build the pool
right? What happened?
(45:31):
Everybody gave forward an Olympic sized pool, Logan.
You're right. Or just a really strong swimmer
that like slowly dents in the wall every time like they turn
off. Yeah, maybe every time they got
to go a little. Further, every time.
Yeah, that's what my old pool islike, actually.
He was kicking off really hard, that old pool.
(45:52):
All right. Well, with that, Logan is the
outright victor in the West Regional of March Madness.
Shooting on all you guys. But Logan and Ethan will both
move on to the Final Four in SanAntonio.
Congratulations, I'll see you later.
