You have to go in there.
You're feeling sweaty palms,you're feeling a little bit
self-conscious, a little bitlike who am I going to talk to?
What am I going to say?
Whose business card am I goingto walk away with?
And it's, quite frankly,overwhelming.
You get in there, you don'tknow anyone, everybody looks

like they're in tight circlesand they're closed off, and so
there's no, really there's not aclear way for you to make your
way in and start a conversationwith someone because you don't
know anyone with someone,because you don't know anyone.
That feeling right there, if weadd a specific component that

is called personal branding, cango away in a very, very short
matter.
Now imagine the same scenariowhere you walk in that exact
same room, exact same state ofmind, but as you walk in, people
recognize you.
They say, oh my god, that's thelady that, or that's the man
that, or that's the ceo of, orthat's the person that did.

And then they just look at youin awe and you're actually
invited into circles.
You're invited to go and speakto these people and they're
excited to learn more about yourjourney and the project that
you just realized and the thingsthat you think about at night.
And they're just.
They want to pick your brainand they want to be part of your
circle, or they want to offeropportunities to collaborate, or

they want to order from yourcompany because they get why
your product is so exciting andrevolutionary.
That, my friends, is the powerof personal branding.
Now, think of it that way.
We all know the company Google,but do you actually know the
names of the founders?
I personally don't.
That's something I would haveto Google.

But what about Amazon?
I think we've all heard thename of the founder a time or
two Jeff Bezos, right?
So two very, very successfulcompanies, yet one of them we
can clearly easily tell who theowner is and the CEO is, and the

other one we kind of have tosearch for it.
That's the power of personalbrand.
A lot of founders they want tohide behind the camera.
They don't really want to getknown.
They prefer their brandsgetting known.
But today's episode is aboutcreating a personal brand that's
actually going to serve you and, yes, it's going to require you

stepping out of your comfortzone.
It's going to require you doingthings that you're not used to.
That feels uncomfortable, butin the end, these things will
help you to build a.
Doing things that you're notused to, that feels
uncomfortable, but in the end,these things will help you to
build a personal brand that willmake you recognizable.
That will also help your brandget more deals because of it.

So let's jump into the topic.
Why does it matter to have apersonal brand today?
It matters because there is somuch competition today on the
market for a great paying career.
This is if you're a highprofessional listening to this,
and then I'll jump into thefounder slash, business owner

side.
As a high level professional,you're no longer competing with
people in your city.
With the arrival of work fromhome, people from all cities
across your country can nowapply for your job if it's
available for work from home.

And not only that, but somecompanies even invite people
worldwide to apply.
So when we say the careermarket has become more
competitive, it's not becausepeople are more qualified
locally and maybe they are.
It's not because people aremore qualified locally and maybe

they are, maybe they have morediplomas, but it's actually
because the reach for candidateshas expanded, and we all know
that some countries have unfairaccess to market, so they are
overqualified, but theircountries don't offer the same
level of opportunities, and sowhen they see jobs very
interesting I'll take forexample the Western world,

because we know it's actuallyhappening these companies that
are hiring these talents, theyunderstand that they can pay
these people less and they havesometimes even higher level of
diplomas.
Now, there's little caveats tothis, okay, but bear with me.
So, with that in mind, you haveto find a way to distinguish

yourself, and personal brandingis the best way to do so.
So when you learn to personalbrand, you will be offered under
the market or pocket listingsfor jobs.
People will approach you withjobs that are not yet available
to the public, but they havescattered the world of LinkedIn
(06:25):
or the world of Facebook or anyother social media, and they
have found that you stand out inyour field because you actually
show leadership by showing upin a public way.
So this is why it's mandatorytoday.
Now, the first platform that Iwill really really emphasize on
for career is LinkedIn, ofcourse.

So LinkedIn has now come outwith something new called
collaborative articles.
So the more you post on yourpersonal profile about certain
topics, certain hashtags,certain fields of expertise, you
will start getting invited tocollaborate on these specific
articles.

This is the first way for youto understand that you are now
perceived on that platform as anexpert in your field.
Not everybody gets invited tocollaborate, but the more you
share and the more growth yourLinkedIn has and the more you
will be invited to share yourthoughts.

Now that can get you discoveredby other peers, or it can get
you discovered by other CEOs,founders and company owners that
read these articles, becausethey will see your comment, they
will see your name and they'llbe able to find your profile.
So you want to jump on that,especially if you're job seeking
.
The other thing you don't wantto do on LinkedIn is putting
(07:52):
that little banner looking for ajob.
Now that, in the perception ofmine, screams desperate, and I
know LinkedIn pushes it and itfeels like it's the right thing
to do.
But you're going to have to bevery discerning on what it says
about you online.
So what it says is I can't finda job on my own.
(08:15):
I'm desperate and I'm putting abanner on my head, literally on
my picture, saying help.
You don't want that, especiallyif you're looking for a high
level expertise.
Now it's time to leverage yournetwork.
Now it's time to start buildingvery solid relationships, and
personal branding will help.
There are aspects of personalbranding that can help, both in
(08:40):
business if you're a businessowner or in career development,
and that is showcasingleadership by helping other
people on their LinkedInprofiles or on their Facebook
profiles.
There's a lot of groups you canjoin now in LinkedIn.
You can join groups in Facebookabout your domain of expertise

and by you answering questionsof other peers.
It automatically elevates youas somebody who's knowledgeable.
The other thing you can do isput yourself on the front stage.
The front stage is startbooking public speaking gigs
paid, unpaid, or even when youhave to pay yourself.

Get on that stage.
Anybody that is elevated on thestage is automatically seen as
a leader.
So get on stage.
If you don't have any expertisein public speaking, you can get
some courses.
You can join toastmasters andgroups like that representations
that actually help people gainthose skills.
(09:46):
The first thing that I wouldsuggest is to start filming
yourself at home.
This is actually how Ipersonally got started.
I, to this day, have over 1000videos on Facebook.
I have this podcast you'rewatching.
We're launching a YouTubechannel and, um, I have so many
(10:07):
videos that I've done myself.
Now we make videos with ourteam, but starting by filming
yourself in just a tripod andyour cell phone and just
practicing to make your thoughtsvery, very concise, funnel them
into a goal or funnel them intoan argument you want to share
with people and things like that.

It's going to be very, veryhelpful and that's a skill that
is developed by beating on yourcraft over and over and over
again.
So it just takes a little bitof self-motivation to get
started, but once you have yourfirst 10, 20, 30 videos under
your belt which you don't evenhave to post if you don't want
to, you're going to startgetting more and more

comfortable with the idea of itall and, yeah, that's going to
help.
So the next thing you want to dois you can put yourself on a
digital stage.
One of the best ways that Iencourage people to do is to
apply to be a guest on a podcast.

So this is just fun ways thatyou can elevate your presence,
elevate your expertise by beingon stage.
Online, you can also createyour own Facebook group.
So by being a owner or afounder of a Facebook group and
inviting people to be part ofthe group, you are in charge in

control of the narrative, of theconversations, of the topics
and of the stream of thoughtsthat automatically puts you on
the scene.
You can go live every singleweek.
You can host webinars.
You can host online events.
That also puts you on the stage.
Another way you can put yourselfon the stage is through

personal events.
So this summer, I've comeacross a lot of invitations on
events hosted in a branch way,hosted on a boat.
I'm going to an event soon thatis in a spa.
So by inviting people into aspecific space where you host

the event, you are automaticallyposting yourself as a leader.

All right, we're going to talkabout two different personal
brand stories.
One of them led to a major failand the other one led to major

success.
So let's start with the badnews.
We all remember having thatyellow wristband in the
beginning of the 2000s.
It was called Live Strong andthat little wristband was the
one that made me so happy, was arepresentation of perseverance
(13:48):
and grit and overcomingobstacles.
And you've guessed it, I'mtalking about Lance Armstrong.
He won seven Tour de France and, if you guys don't know, that's
the cycling competition,olympic level, cycling
competition in France for men.
He won seven times while beinga cancer survivor, and he
(14:14):
started his own foundationcalled Live Strong, and this man
was the representation ofperseverance, grit and
incredible power.
That was his personal brand,which extended to his companies
and to his overall image.
Now there was a major scandalafter he retired.
(14:35):
After doing some research, itwas found out that he was
actually doping and that'sillegal in the Olympics.
So he admitted to it and he wasstripped of his titles.
Now he could have turned thisinto a major comeback if he
(15:00):
would have shown redemption.
You know, we've all seen thoseYouTubers make public apologies.
These celebrities make publicstatements and kind of flip the
narrative around.
The Kardashians are actuallygreat at doing that.
But unfortunately he didn't.
He vanished and we almost neverheard of him at that level ever
(15:25):
again.
Now this can happen when youbuild your personal brand to a
certain level.
They say that it's hardest tomaintain the crown than to get
up to it.
You have to be media trained,you have to be understanding of
public perception, but that'swhen you get to having millions
(15:47):
and millions of people followingyou and following your every
move and analyzing everythingthat you do.
So we're not gonna get thereyet, but we may get to that.
So it's just to keep in mind tomake sure that you continue
continue portraying the samelevel of branding style across
(16:11):
the entire field of yourdifferent brands, or extension
of your personal brand.
The next brand we're going totalk about is a woman called Mel
Robbins.
Now I came across Mel Robbinsfrom one of her successful TED
Talks.
She was on the big stage andshe made a whole conversation.
(16:35):
I can't even remember what shewas talking about, but it was
super interesting.
And she used the last fiveminutes of that talk to talk
about one tip that she gaveherself, which is the five
second rule.
So I'm not going to go intodepths about it, but I highly
encourage looking at her tedtalk because from that ted talk
(16:58):
she talks about this one tipshe's using.
She talks about the power of thebrain and analyzing the brain
and everything and how we aremotivated to do the things that
we do, and she said that sherealized by counting backwards
five, four, three, two, one andthen doing the thing that she's
about to be doing like jumpingout of bed in the morning, or it
(17:21):
could be writing a specificblog article or filling out a
form, or just like sending anemail.
By counting backwards like thisand taking action right away
after the last second, it wasproven that she could go ahead
and do whatever she was about todo without any resistance from
the brain, and that specificfive minutes of that TED talk
(17:44):
went viral.
People loved it to a pointwhere they became obsessed with
it.
I mean, people were talkingabout, they were, they were
resharing her videos and thingslike that.
And she jumped on that wave andshe wrote a book called the
five second rule, which is justthat little part of it.

Um, she was booked on all thesepodcasts, on the all these
shows on TV and online, and shebecame one of the best paid
public speakers in the worldfrom that five minutes of a TED
Talk.
So that's the power of personalbranding when you capitalize on
(18:28):
it, you double down on it.
She didn't write a book on thephilosophy of nature and the
growth of trees.
She wrote a book on the exacttopic she went viral for, in the
exact same words that she usedfor her talk and the TED talk.
If you look at it the last timeI checked, it's not even called
the five second rule, so you'renot going to find it under that
(18:50):
, but you're going to find itunder another topic, and that
part right here is calledpersonal branding.
When you capitalize on that, itcan get you to places you've
never, ever, ever imagined.
We have a few clients.
We've done that for.
One of them is an amazing womanwhich is now the first black
(19:13):
president of the Chamber ofCommerce of Montreal.
She's doing a tremendous job.
She's the first one in 400years of existence and we worked
a lot on personal branding.
We did a lot of her videos.
She had a photograph photograph.
We manage her social medias andthe perception of the public.
(19:33):
We even ran some campaigns forsome of her brands that that are
linked to her personal brand.
So it was just really abeautiful exercise to see how
somebody who's already masteringsomething behind the scenes,
when you just put a certaintwist in their image and you
(19:54):
showcase the elements of theirpersonality or elements of who
they are that really reallyencapsulates all the magnitude
of the talent that they have,and you just put a spotlight on
these specific points, you canimpact public perception in a
(20:16):
way that that's all they'regoing to see and it creates kind
of a cognitive bias where, ifthey have other parts of
themselves that are less good,you won't see them because
you're going to be kind ofoutshined by the points that
we've highlighted consciously.
(20:36):
So the power of personalbranding is also about not
giving everything away aboutyourself, but it's also about
just focusing on the parts ofyourself that you want people to
remember, because a thing thatI see online right now is that
people want to trauma dumponline and they say, ok, now I
(20:57):
have to talk about all mytraumas.
I have to share my most deep,dark secrets, my family secrets.
I have to share everything sothat people can connect with me,
and I'm here to say that iswhat I said.
Like trauma dumping, it's notactually personal branding.
You don't have to air yourdirty laundry and share all of
(21:18):
your skeletons in your closets.
Secrets exist for a reason.
Okay, let's bring that back alittle bit.
Let's bring back secrets,because the things that I've
come across online are justinsane.
So when you have that in mind,start talking about the things
you want people to rememberabout you.
(21:39):
Start using the power ofstorytelling to really showcase
aspects of yourself through thestories that you tell.
So if you want to showcase thatyou're somebody generous,
you're not going to talk abouthow you're amazing and generous.
That's just self-suiting.
(22:01):
That's going to come across thewrong way.
What you want to do is tell astory where either yourself were
part of a specific foundationand not even the amount that you
gave but how it was amazing tosee the impact that this
foundation had and how it wasjust life-changing for the
people.
(22:21):
They're gonna relate the storyyou talk about to you being at
that foundation, therefore beinga donor or a donator.
I'm French, my brain is notright now, but they're going to
associate the qualities of thepeople you talk about in your
(22:42):
stories to your qualities.
That's actually anothercognitive bias from human beings
actually another cognitive biasfrom human beings.
So, even if you talk aboutsomeone else in a positive way,
they will start to put theaspects of the main character on
(23:02):
you because you tell that story.
It's really a weird thing thathappens, and I'm sure there's
like a million stories orresearch around that that's
already been made that I'm justkind of putting together for you
guys today.
So start using the power of theimagination, start putting
(23:23):
yourself on the main stage,start getting more seen, getting
more heard, getting more felt,and start giving yourself
permission to shine.
Okay, step out of your shell.
If you're always at home, go tonetworking events, get to know
people, get to care about people, because when we care about
(23:48):
others, they start caring aboutus.
That's something that weunconsciously do.
When we do something forsomeone else, we start liking
them more, and so if you caninvolve people into your world
and you can give themopportunities to meet others and
give them opportunities toconnect and give them
(24:08):
opportunities to meet others andgive them opportunities to
connect and give themopportunities to be seen and
heard, they will, in return, see, hear you and and connect with
you in a more profound andamazing way, because it's just a
law of reciprocity.
They're gonna want to give backto you in some kind of way.
So this is how you can start tobuild your personal brand.
