What if the fatigue, brain fog, and mood swings you've been told are "normal aging" actually have a solution? Hope King, owner of Southern Magnolia Health and Wellness, LLC, joins us to reveal why hormone replacement therapy might be the missing piece in your wellness puzzle.

Hope shares her journey from traditional nursing to founding her own practice where patients receive up to 60 minutes of dedicated attention rather than the rushed visits typical in insurance-driven healthcare. "I really wanted to get to spend time with our patients and not see 30+ patients a day feeling like I wasn't making a difference," she explains, highlighting why she adopted a cash-based model that prioritizes relationship-building over volume.

As a certified specialist in advanced bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, Hope has witnessed remarkable transformations. One male patient "didn't realize how horrible he felt until he started treatment," while a female patient exclaimed that hormone therapy "made me feel like I did in my twenties." Beyond symptom relief, proper hormone balance significantly reduces risks of serious conditions like heart disease, dementia, and osteoporosis. Hope explores how environmental factors are causing hormone issues in increasingly younger populations and offers practical advice on anti-inflammatory nutrition and strength training to complement medical treatment.

Perhaps most compelling are the stories of patients who've been dismissed by multiple doctors despite debilitating symptoms, only to discover their issues stemmed from hormone imbalances all along. "She feels the best she's felt in at least 10 years," Hope shares about one such patient, "and she was just so grateful to us for taking the time to listen and validate how she felt."

Ready to explore whether hormone therapy might help you feel like yourself again? Contact Southern Magnolia Health at 386-260-2653 or visit southernmagnoliahealth.com to learn more about their patient-centered approach to wellness.

She's the owner of SouthernMagnolia Health and Wellness LLC

(00:21):
.
Man, that's a mouthful.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
I know, I should have thought about that when I
created the name.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
No, it's actually a good name.
So good morning, how are youdoing?

Speaker 2 (00:32):
I'm doing well.
How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
I can't complain Another beautiful day, right.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah, absolutely.

free to comment as well.
With that being said, we'regoing to go jump right in.
Get to know Hope a little bitHope.
Can you kind of share with ourlisteners a little bit about
your background?

Speaker 2 (00:59):
So my background is I graduated with an RN in 2002.
Most of my career I spentworking in pediatrics, labor and
delivery and then one nightwhen I was at work, me and my
friend were like let's go tonurse practitioner school and
continue our education.
So I became a nursepractitioner in December of 2017

(01:21):
.
And since then I have beenworking in primary care and
created our own business.
About five years ago, onceGovernor DeSantis signed that
nurse practitioners could beautonomous, we went ahead and
opened our business because Ireally wanted to get to spend

(01:41):
time with our patients and notsee 30 plus patients a day and
feel like I wasn't making adifference.
So I've been in primary careand we've kind of dug deep and
opened more of a wellnessholistic practice.
And that's where my focus hasbegun really focusing in on
trying to get to the root causeof diseases and hormone balance

(02:04):
with hormone replacement therapy.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
That's awesome.
I want to talk about hormonereplacement therapy here in a
minute, but you said somethingvery important that I took away
from that.
It's time with patients.
Can you kind of elaborate onthat?
What does that look like?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
So in the traditional model of care, insurance kind
of dictates the way that we carefor our patients and you only
have a certain amount of timewith each patient and in order
to complete your day, they kindof fill your schedule, max it
out, and you don't really get tosit there and have
conversations with people.
And the way that I try to do itat my practice is and it varies

(02:44):
based on what they're there forbut the goal is that I really
get to know our patients and getto know their histories, get to
know their family life.
You know there's a lot to itand we want to build
relationships.
So we try to do longerappointment times.
Initial visits can be up to 60minutes, even longer.

(03:04):
It really just depends on theneed for our patients.
And then, of course, there'ssome people that come in and
they're like they want to be inand out real quick and that's
fair too.
But I just know for metraditional medicine wasn't
working and you know that's whywe don't take insurance at my
practice.
We are a cash based businessand it has nothing to do with

(03:29):
you know.
Oh, we don't want to takeinsurance, but we don't want
them to dictate how we care forour patients.
I want to be able to take careof the person and really spend
time with them.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
That's interesting and actually well stated With.
I guess with technology, withthe change in the medical
industry, do you see that thisis something that a lot of
medical professionals are goingdown this road in the industry
itself?

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Absolutely out an email to all her patients
stating she's no longer takinginsurance and that she is doing
concierge based and you willhave to pay a yearly premium to
see her.
And I understand why she'sdoing it.
I know a lot of people wereupset with that because they
were used to the traditionalmodel of insurance.
You know, we still want ourpatients to have insurance and

(04:21):
use it for hospitalizations, useit for their medications, but
we want to be able to trulyspend time with them.
So, absolutely, I see there's abig change in this.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
It's like every industry is always evolving
right.
It's always changing rightBased on what services they're
offering and what the marketdictates.
So let's talk about hormonereplacement therapy.
Let's go down that road alittle bit.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
So that's kind of been a passion.
And last year I becamecertified in advanced
bioidentical hormone replacement, meaning that I took a bunch of
education hours Specifically, for that was 80 hours Prior to
that.
I've done multiple courses init.
It's become a passion because Iknow that the reason why things

(05:08):
are happening for people can berelated to hormones, whether
it's your thyroid, whether yourinsulin resistance and you're
not losing weight, whetheryou're feeling fatigued.
You know, for our guystestosterone replacement is huge
.
I, one of my patients, told methat he didn't realize how
horrible he felt until hestarted on it.

(05:28):
He said he was depressed, anxious, couldn't concentrate.
And then I had one of ourfemale patients the other day
come in and she's like you, mademe feel like I did when I was
in my twenties and honestly, those results you know, not
everybody's going to feel thesame way, but it definitely
changes and we know that women, what we didn't know before we

(05:52):
always thought that heartdisease was a killer of men and
we didn't realize that it's alsoa killer of women and it's one
of the biggest killer of womenand it's a lot to do with our
estrogen levels depleting andour hormones depleting.
So definitely significant riskfactors for you know, bone loss,
dementia, even heart disease.
So I I found that treatinghormones changes the path for a

(06:15):
lot of diseases and can beextremely beneficial for our
patients.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Wow, Interesting.
So let's talk about what canour listeners that are maybe
experiencing this?
What can they do?
Of course, they can hire aprofessional, but what are some
of the things they can do to tryto prevent?
You know what I mean?
There's not necessarilyprevention.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Of course there are supplements out there that can
help you eliminate symptoms, butit's not going to get to the
reason.
And the reason is because as weage, we decline.
So you think about every decadethat you live you're having
declining in your hormones.
So what can be done?
We also know that there are alot of factors as far as the

(07:04):
environment that can affect it,and that's why we're seeing, you
know, men who are in theirtwenties, thirties, with lower
testosterone levels, like wedidn't see that before.
Um, one of the things thatpeople can do to help is
anti-inflammatory nutrition andyou know there's, there's guides
online that you can look forfor anti-inflammatory nutrition.
It's a huge key overall health.

(07:27):
But sometimes you know theyneed to come in, they need to be
evaluated, they need to getthat full blood work panel, they
need to really see what's goingon and then they can be guided
on how to address what's goingon.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
So this is something that can be cured or something
that takes time.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
So it's going to take time.
Am I going to tell you thatyou're going to be cured?
No, because it's not a diseasethat you're going to be cured
from.
Once you start hormonereplacement therapy and then
let's just say you stop takingit, you're going to go back to
feeling the way that you didbefore because those hormones
aren't there anymore.
You're not getting them.
So other things that can beaddressed whether you know

(08:07):
there's other things in yourblood work that need help with
and maybe we're going to giveyou supplements to get those
levels raised up yes, thosethings can be fixed with proper
nutrition supplements.
Um, you know, even exercise.
Exercise is key for, um, youknow, for midlife it is key.
Strength training People don'trealize how important it is.
Um, you absolutely need to dothat.

(08:28):
So, and that's really just tohelp you later in life.
So that way, if you, you'restronger, your bones are good,
your muscles are good.
So that way, if you do have afall, you know, you're hopefully
going to protect yourself.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
That's great advice.
Yeah, and people don't realize.
You know, I've talked to a fewpeople in reference to strength
training as you get older and itis important and I'm glad that
you kind of shared with ourlisteners that point so let's
talk about there's got to be astory, and I don't need to know
the customer's name, don'tmention the name, but there's

(09:04):
got to be one that kind ofstands out and I always ask this
question is there one patient, not a customer, but a patient?
That really kind of was likewow, thank you so much.
You know, hope for for what youdo.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
There is and it's.
It's happened quite a few timesand it was kind of a joke the
other day when one of mypatients was sitting in the
waiting room which I try not tohave people sitting in the
waiting room, which I try not tohave people sitting in the
waiting room but I was withanother patient, so our waiting
room is essentially there foraesthetics but he was sitting
there and another patient walkedin and he was like oh, you come

(09:39):
here too.
He's like wow, everybody comesand sees Hope.
So there's circles of friendsand then they start referring
each other.
The stories are essentially youknow one of our female patients
.
She came in with brain fog, fatigue, going to multiple

(10:00):
doctors and them telling herthat she's fine, your blood
works fine.
She did not feel fine.
She did not feel good.
She did not feel good, she feltlike she was losing her mind.
And when she came in to see us,you know I took the time, I
listened.
I have a huge intake thatpeople have to fill out.
It gets to know them, goesthrough all their health

(10:26):
questions, and then I take thatinformation and then I decide
what I'm going to order forblood work.
So come to find out.
She had issues not only withher estrogen, her progesterone,
her testosterone, but also herthyroid, and everybody kept
telling her there is nothingwrong with your thyroid.
Well, she has now been onmedication, probably about six
months.
She feels the best she's feltin at least 10 years, and she

(10:49):
was just so grateful to us fortaking the time to listen and
validate how she felt.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
That's awesome.
So how does that make you feelwhen you hear that story?
I love it.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
I love it.
It makes me feel good.
It's definitely rewarding.
You know, as I told you before,I was a labor and delivery
nurse in the past, so we alwayshad the reward of delivering
babies and now I get the rewardof making people feel better,
and I couldn't do that intraditional medicine.
You know, one of the doctorstold me go in the room, you only
have time to address threeproblems, and a lot of times

(11:24):
there's a lot more than threeproblems that we need to address
.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Well Hope.
You know it's such it'sexciting for you to be able to
share your story, your business, your services that you provide.
I know we talked abouthomeowner replacement therapy
and it seems like that'ssomething that's top of mind of
everyone you know, wanting tolearn more about that now.
Can you provide, as we wrap up,can you provide a phone number

(11:50):
