Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello from the Amplifying Newsroom. I'm Ashley Nolan. Police have
released details of churches a man charged with sexual offenses
against a child was associated with in the late nineteen
eighties and nineteen nineties. Police say the fifty nine year
old New South Wales man was known to frequent multiple
church groups and regularly attend church community events. Investigations have

(00:24):
revealed the man was associated with Tagrinong Alliance Church in
Woniassa Citney Mission Church in the City, O'Connor Uniting Church
and Capital Christian Church in Philip, as well as the
Ferry Garden in Tagrinong. He was also a swimming instructor.
The man has been charged with multiple sexual offenses, including

(00:44):
seven counts of active indecency and five counts of sexual
intercourse with a child under ten years. The Chief Minister
starts a trade mission in Thailand today before heading to Singapore.
The week long Asian mission will look at investment opportunities
into Canberra. Andrew Ba says Thailand is a key market.
The ACT is seeking to strengthen ties with and promote

(01:07):
Canmebra's strengths in our tourism and university sectors. While he's
looking to expand on strong existing ties with Singapore through
tourism and aviation partnerships, as well as trade opportunities and
inquiry into barriers and opportunities for participation in community sports
in the Act will be on in the Assembly today.

(01:29):
The committee will look into things like how to improve
participation rates and better access to community sports facilities. Craig
Wallace from Advocacy for Inclusion says more needs to be
done for Cambra's young people with disability.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
So many people would just really sort of tell us
that their local community oval or playing field doesn't have
things like pathways to get them onto the grounds, that
the spectator seating can be quite inaccessible and poor, that
the disability toilets aren't available, that there's no kind of parking.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
It will now cost you on average six hundred and
eighty dollars to rent a place in Canberra. That's up
two point eight percent compared to a year ago. Cotality
economist Caitlin Ezzi says Canberra is the fifth most expensive
city to rent in across the nation.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Canberra's unit sector has been a much stronger increase in
rents compared to houses, with rent rising about three point
four percent over the past year compared to about the
two point six percent rise scene in house rents.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
It's about to become easier to get to Europe for Canberans,
with Kata Airways bringing back their daily flights out of
Canberra from December two. A Boeing Triple seven will operate
the flights, which will go via Melbourne to Doha and
on to connect to more than one hundred and seventy
destinations through the Kata Hub. And Alicia Paine has welcomed

(02:49):
her new baby. The Member for Canberra and her husband
Ben welcomed son Joseph on Saturday morning at Centenary Hospital.
Both mother and baby are doing well. Joseph is Mss
Payne's third child and that's the latest to news. We'll
have another update for you right here later today
