Hello from the Amplifying newsroom. I'm Tomorrow Cartwright. The federal
government is hailing it's handling off the economy after reducing
the deficit by around eighteen billion dollars. The deficit for
last fin year has come in at ten billion, thanks
largely to a surge in company and income tax. Finance
Minister Katie Gallaher says getting the budget back in shape

has been their top priority.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
We've sought year by year to improve the budget to
ensure that well. We delivered two surpluses and in this
deficit year we've significantly lower the deficit.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
The Greens are calling for Optus's license to be reviewed
off the back of the latest triple zero outage. The
outage this time affecting the Illawarra. It follows another outage
earlier this month across several states that's been linked to
at least three deaths. Senator Sarah Hanson Young says it's
not good enough.

This company does not deserve any more chances. It's time
to review license and to put in place an immediate expert,
an independent expert to oversee their operations.

At least four people have been killed and eight others
injured after an attack at a Michigan church. The suspect
accused of driving a vehicle into the Church of Jesus
Christ and Latter day Saints before opening fire and setting
the building alight. The gunmen shot dead by authorities. We're
being invited to have our say on the Canberra Liberals'
own proposed coercive control bill. Opposition leader Leanne Cassley says

the private member's bill, which was voted down last year,
will be introduced to the Assembly in the next sitting
week in October. It comes after the Act government last
week announced legislation will be introduced by mid next year
to make coercive control a standalone offence in the Capitol. Act.

where properties aren't locked up properly. The advice is if
you're away for more than a few days, get someone
