(00:05):
There's a professional. Radio.
That's front wheel drive. Have you got anyone you want to
thank? Just myself.
And now I do the after hours, gentlemen.
What would you go for? They see us in there OK, And

(00:28):
because it's not a super duck, it's not automatic.
Perfection comes in the form of 2 letters A&U.
Long away of my Ltd. Welcome to Car Talk.
It's choosing on here on not April 9 NW FM it's me, Maddie J
in the studio with Mr Chad, The Bell online with Mr. David

(00:51):
Prince and special guest in studio Mr Andrew Wrigglesworth.
How are you my friend? It's lovely to be here.
Thank you so much for letting meactually get into the building.
Oh man. Wonderful.
It's so. You know, he jumped, he jumped
the Moat. He he he defeated the guards.
Shane's clattering as the drawbridge is.
Blowing the bridge. It's great to be here.

(01:13):
And we're just talking off air that many years ago my wife and
I would be frequently visiting Northwest FM.
So getting all the fields. Getting all the fields.
Yeah, we did some fundraisers back in the day.
And yeah, it was wonderful time. It's Yeah.
It's like an old friend got to ask you.
Any different? Nothing.

(01:34):
Nothing. We're talking over a decade ago,
probably 11 years ago. Yeah.
Well, yeah, even The funny thingis actually went to go to the
bathroom. I knew exactly where the
switches were and everything. So.
Yeah, so. Probably the same canister of
international roast in the kitchen.
Yes, still there. Yeah.

(01:56):
It it is a it is like a friendlyold place.
It, it feels like, you know, andevery time I come and do this,
do the show here at the studio, it feels like, it feels like a
second home. Yeah.
And everyone that that knows this place, Yeah, I it's the
old, you know, the old little shed that that's, that's a radio
station. But it, but it is.
And it's been serving the community here for a very long
time. So.
And the fact that you've been here many times, like when when

(02:17):
you told me you're like, oh, I've been now like what?
So kind of kind of blew my mind, not gonna lie, but but yeah,
pretty, pretty wild. Good to have you here mate.
Yeah. Thank you so much.
I appreciate it. Good to have you here.
You know, we've got lots to talkabout tonight, especially with
Magma 40th coming up. Yep, huge event it is.

(02:38):
I mean, I mean, we've been talking up on this show for a
very long time, but tonight's the night where we get to
really, really give it, give it the, give it the push.
Yeah, get the guts that are happening.
Absolutely. So yeah, we'll, we will get to
that. We also joined by Scotty Doe.
How are you, Scotty? I'm good.
How is everybody? Hey.
Buddy, good to see you. Hey buddy, lovely to see you as

(03:01):
well. It's been been too long.
I, I know your voice like I, I, I've said to you before, like
every week I'm in the car and it's like days of our lives Car
Talk style. Oh yeah, it is.
I've followed you through those R 31 days and I loved every
minute of it, so it's actually lovely to be in the studio and

(03:22):
be with everyone here. It's awesome.
Mate, we had we had Jim Barlow on a few times and we'll keep
getting back on as the future goes along.
But he's like, I don't know if you if you were there, but when
we were talking with him, he's like, if I close my eyes, he's
just just like listening to the podcast when when we were at

(03:42):
That's a Sakura Picnic, I was. Oh yeah, that's really hard.
Everyone there. You're right.
Yeah. And I remember Scott, he was
just like pissing himself. He was, he was like, yeah, I was
like this. We just this is just how we
talk. This is just how we are.
So no, but but look, it, it is. It is nice to have guests on the
show. You know, we but definitely, you
know, it's very esteemed guests like you, like yourself, Andrew,

(04:05):
because you've put together one of the most.
You know, it's an actually incredible story about how this
is going to become going together, which, which we'll
which we'll get to, but it's just a it's it makes it makes
the car community feel a lot bigger than it is.
And it and it's because, you know, it's an event that's

(04:29):
taking place in a different state to where you are.
Yeah, in a in a location that has been abandoned ish as from
what it was originally. Yeah, definitely.
But getting people from all parts of Australia to to rock up
in the one location, it's, it's a mammoth, mammoth task, mammoth
event. And I just want to commit, you
know, commend you. This is like, I don't know how

(04:50):
you've got this off the ground, you know, and from, from one
man's idea come, you know, come big things.
And I'm, I'm, I'm say I'm proud of you.
Oh, thank you. I'm, I'm very, very lucky that
and yourself included here that I've got a an amazing supportive
team of people that have helped and, and incredible friends and
an incredible wife that's very understanding.

(05:12):
So yeah, it's, it's, it's, it's honestly not just me, it's, it's
a, it's a yeah, it's, it's a big, beautiful group of people.
So yeah. It's, it's a, it's a big thing.
It's, it's a big community. And, you know, I've, I've joined
some of the, some of the Magna pages, Magna Madness and a few
of the other ones. And, and, you know, just seeing

(05:32):
how excited everybody is for it.Yeah, it's, this is like it, it
blew my mind. Like I, I, I went on for like,
Oh yeah, I'll just join. And they're like, yeah, we're
getting the car ready for, for Magna 40, getting this ready for
Magna 40, Magna 40. And I'm like, wow, this is this
is this is legit? Yeah, it's a lovely feeling.
It's I, I, I, you know, I, I can't wait to see you on the
morning of of Magna 40. Yeah, running around like I have

(05:55):
this chunk, but yeah, but. I can't wait to see you on the
next morning. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I, I just want to see, I want to see, you know, you with,
with a big smile and the warmth that, that you, that you give
to, to everybody, but also word of advice from, you know, please
take it in. Yeah, that's, that's the thing

(06:16):
that everyone said, including David said this as well.
It, it's hard to, but yeah, I, Itotally, I totally agree.
You just need to take a minute just to take a breath and just
to soak it in because it's, yeah, I mean, I'm hoping someone
else is going to organise Magna 50 so I can just come along to
just enjoy. But you're right, it's it's I
need to take a minute and just take a breath and and soak it

(06:38):
all in. Absolutely it's it's huge.
So yeah, one at the start of by by saying that, but appreciate
it. But but yeah, Magna 40th huge
events. Andrew, thanks for coming on the
show. No problem.
Just for some context, you live on the other side.
So so you made you made the trick out here.
Yeah. So, so first of all that that
big thanks for that. Totally worth it.

(06:59):
Appreciate it. But tell us a little bit about
like question. I've got a question for you from
the start. How did this come about?
Like, like how did, how did thisone idea of say, Oh yeah, we
should do something for that come into fruition?
Like, like what made you say, you know what?
I'm going to do that. It started with a a cup of
coffee with Mr. David Prince. That's that's that's David's

(07:22):
hiding his head. That is honestly how, yeah, we
had. We have.
We've had many, as we all have in this room and on the podcast,
had coffee dates with Mr. David Prince.
And he's the man that, that shows us the, the, the ways of
their, of, of the road. And it literally was sitting
down and saying, look, the 40th is coming up.

(07:46):
And I, I want it to be more thanjust sort of a few people
hanging out in the car park on aSunday morning.
But I don't know where to start. And David said, well, you know
what? We, you know, I can help you and
we can, we can do this and we can find the right people to
talk to. That's where it started.
It was literally over a cup of coffee.

(08:08):
And from there, just starting toget contacts and starting to ask
people where, where, where, how can we do this?
What what can we do to to make it happen?
That's. Really.
Yeah, that's really as simple asit is.
And I think the wonderful thing about this matter, even if you
don't like Magnus, I think the great thing is, is that it's the

(08:31):
grassroots thing where it startswith a couple of people that
then grows into a few more people and then people start
talking about it on the socials and things like that.
And suddenly you've got the, the, the moment for me was when
I thought this is actually goingto happen is when people started
saying Magna 40. Yeah, before the Magna 40th
celebration. It was actually, it was actually

(08:51):
really nice when people started and hashtagging it and things
like that, which is really cool.I, that's what I thought, OK.
It's actually growing its own legs.
It's actually not about David and I sitting down talking about
Magna's over a coffee is actually taking it well.
It's actually doing its own thing now, which is, which is
what I love. And I, I mean, I from a music
background, so I love it when like a song suddenly grows legs

(09:14):
and it does it's own thing and it it's sort of goes into the
stratosphere. Yeah, that's on a very small
scale what I feel like. Yeah, yeah, Magna 40 is so it's,
it's a lovely thing and even people have reached out to me
online and said, look, you know, never really sort of thought
about Magna's. But I really want to come.
I actually want to come purely to see the, the enthusiasts and

(09:36):
see the, see the excitement behind it.
So yeah, that's, that's, that's,that's what it's all about.
And for me, it's job done. It's, it's a lovely feeling, but
and that's what a community is all about.
No matter what, if it's cars or music or football or whatever,
that's what it should be about. Absolutely.
Like, like we're a Yeah. This is our grand final coming

(09:57):
up next month, isn't it? Yes.
Yes. Well, it's, you know, we're a
month and two days out, Yeah, you know, and.
Oh, thanks for that. Yeah.
Well, sorry, sorry, David Fritz,we're a month and two days out
and you know, in terms of in terms of where this is kind of
like it feels like it's been a long time coming, but also it

(10:18):
feels like it's it's. Going so quickly.
And, you know, and like every time I talk to you like, yeah,
you know, it's happening this that and the other.
And, and but like, I mean, Chad, like you, you even bought a
Magna for this, you know, like it's, it's, it's kind of it's
grown, it's it's grown like to people that wouldn't even be,
you're right, injured, not even into Magnus.

(10:39):
Yeah, like, I didn't even really, I've never even really
driven in a Magna prior to this.I've never known anyone.
I knew someone. But you know, like I, I was
really disconnected from it and just from hearing about it and
just getting like excited I'd, you know, decided to buy one

(10:59):
and, you know, go on this littleadventure and which is, you
know, hit, hit some Rd bumps here and there.
We'll get there. We'll get in there and.
But yeah, it's, you know, I think it is just how you've got
everyone so, like excited about what's coming up.
It's infectious. It's like, yeah.

(11:20):
It's just, I know it's really like rubbed off on me.
I can only speak for myself, butyeah, no, it's been, yeah, it's
been great. Like seeing the stuff that
you've been putting up and and everyone else engaging as well,
which is really cool. I've never really, I'm not sure
I've ever seen any car event where people have gotten so
involved. Yeah.

(11:40):
Like, you get it with cars and coffee and you get it with some
other, I don't know, like specialty car shows.
But like, I don't know, this feels different.
This feels like, you know, someone who might have had a
magnet for 40 years is actually going to bring their car here.
And it's going to be like, you know, I've kept it all this
time, all the time We've looked.I love this thing.
My moments are right, especially.

(12:01):
Yeah, my moments are right. Well, it's, it's funny you say
that, David, because like I, my student teacher from about 3
years ago, his name's Luke Grey guy.
He loves old weird stuff and he's he's he's current driver is
a is a Hyundai, gets manual. He loves it.
Anyway, I could have been, we went to the footy and he's a

(12:22):
great photographer and everything and, and he's like,
oh, you know, what are you doingthis holidays?
I'm like, well, look at, you know, just after the holidays,
I'm going to to make the 40th and he's like making the 40th.
And I explained it to him and he's like, he's like, oh dude,
I'm flying over. He.
He. Even bought a T-shirt like
curious, curious and and he's like I said the idea to my wife

(12:48):
and he's got a young kid. He's young son Oscar and and
he's like, he's like, sorry, you're gonna have to you're
gonna have to stay with with your mum this weekend.
I'm going back the 40th like it's.
Wow. And he's because he's actually
originally from Adelaide and, and he's getting all these
Adelaidean friends just to, just, to, just to come in, just
to have a look. That's wonderful.
So, so like, you know, just justfrom that word of mouth, like

(13:09):
it's, it feels like the fact that it's, it's such a, it's a,
it's a, it's a car that's uniquely Australian because it
is, yeah, it is. But but also it's it's kind of
like the unsung hero of the. Australian.
Of the Australian your automotive landscape and I think
that now that it's it's got somerecognition and like and I'll be

(13:30):
honest with you people, some people are like really.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely then. Now, like, holy crap, there's
actually a thing and the love it's getting in like my mate
Luke, that I, that I, you know, that I mentored as a, as a, you
know, as a student teacher, he'son board.
Like his mates are on board. And it was like, Oh yeah, we
have Magnus and this and that and yeah, you.

(13:51):
Know it's the hilarious thing somany people, as you said, what
you're celebrating what you knowand it's like, well, why you
know, why would you do that? And pounds to peanuts they will.
Within a minute they're going. I, I did have a magnet on my
neighbourhood. I remember they bought it and

(14:11):
had the electronic dashboard in it.
Yeah. Everybody knows someone that had
one or, you know, we've got driven to school in one or, you
know, mum and dad had one. Andrew, like you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's true. It's a nice feeling for me
personally. Like it, it's, it's, it's sort
of, it's spilled over to my professional there.
I say professional life like I've been, I remember we were,

(14:34):
we were doing a concert at a theatre in Tamworth and I'm
cheering up my guitar and the sound guy's sorting things out
and he walked over to me like really sort of sort of casually
said, so how are your Magnus going?
That's amazing. And I'd never spoken to him
about Magnus before. It's just, he's sent on socials
and obviously seeing photos of me with them or something.
But this is a guy that does, youknow, big theatre things, big

(14:57):
productions. And he just walked on and said,
Hey, how's your Magna going? And he said, you know, I had, my
mum had one exactly like one of yours.
And then we went on this big spiel and said, Oh, by the way,
we should do a sound check. But this is actually, this is,
we ended up having this massive chat about Magna.
So it's, it's a, it's a, it's a wonderful thing.
Like I said, I, I, I, I never thought I've said this to David

(15:18):
a million times. I never thought in a million
years I'd be organising something like this and talking
to all different people from allwalks of life about Magda.
It's about my weird obsession. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's, that's, yeah, that's it's a lovely thing.
But you know what though? Like I wanna commend you because
no, like it's it's on it and andit isn't an obscure car.

(15:41):
It's it's a well established car, but it's a car that never
got love in terms of in terms oflike notoriety of like your
holdings and stuff. Yeah, and and for most people
with those sort of cars, they kind of just like they've got
their following, but like no oneever does something like that.
Like like, you know, Ford do every all Ford day every.
Year, which is huge, which is a.Small Ford Sunday and and you

(16:05):
know, like, and, and these are massive events for for for those
types of cars, but nobody's donesomething like and like in my
recent memory channel. I don't know if you if you or
you guys aren't like Scotty or anything, but like for like a
specific car that's had, let's be honest, not a lot of love
throughout. Its no from from the from the
general. Public.
Definitely not. You know, and this is this is
actually next level when you think about it.

(16:26):
Yeah, which is lovely. And even though I know a lot of
the enthusiasts in the Magna scene, there's so many other
people, I, I didn't realise how many people were actually really
into it and had had a rally out sitting in their shed or you
know what, one of one. And but that's, that's the
thing. And I get, I'm getting like

(16:46):
daily emails about, oh, I've gotthis and the pulling this out
for Magna 40 or I had this, or Iworked at Mitsubishi and I know
this guy. And that's been a lovely thing
for me. And it's given me, I mean, so
much more information. Like I, I just, yeah, the
knowledge I've been handed basically is, is really lovely.
Check the word you used is is isso appropriate infectious.

(17:10):
Infectious, right? Infectious and and Andrew.
Like a bad disease way I. Was going to say Andrew's
infectious. Like very best possible way you
could get from that, that first, his first little trip to
highball in in his beige waggon where people just lost their
minds over it. You know, it, it was, it was the

(17:33):
perfect venue for that sort of event.
Not that you knew that then. No, but it, it, it just really
sort of lit a fire in people. And and Andrew is very good at
bloody fires in people. He's he's infectious.
And the I, I can remember that coffee too, very well.
And I remember, typical of me, Imean, I've, I've been involved

(17:57):
in organising few events, but atthis stage now I just think,
let's go the easy route. So let's tack on to someone
else's event. Like we don't have to do
everything. So that's where the where the
Adelaide thing came from becauseI said, well, Adelaide Magna
Beta Birdwood. So Beta Birdwood is this huge,
massive car rally that's on every October, goes from Glenelg

(18:20):
to the Bird Bird boating Museum up in the, up in the hills,
Adelaide Hills. And yeah, I mean, first and 2nd
Gen Magna's are eligible for that.
The car's got to be 30 years old.
So I thought, well, I wonder if anyone's ever thought of
actually putting Magna's in it. I mean, Adelaide is Magna.
And as we've found out so many times since, you know, everybody
seems in everyone out of Adelaide, it seems first car was

(18:42):
a Mitsubishi Magna and it's so asecond or third car.
And the the the nostalgia that the whole event's creating, I
think is is given at legs as well.
Yeah, definitely. Well, if, if, if you're
infectious, I'll take Andrew 19.I'll, you know, I'll so I'll,
I'll, I'll have that as happily as you know, I'll get my vaccine

(19:04):
for that. Yeah.
See, it's it's you're right, guys.
It it, it feels, it feels surreal that this has taken off
the way it. Has.
Yeah, definitely. So yeah, yeah, again, it's all
credit to you, you know, like you've, you know, you one man,
one Magna turned this into like. One Man 4.

(19:26):
Magnets 4. Magnets.
Yeah, well, I mean, you only brought one magnet to the first
event and then? Yeah, yeah, he's.
Gotten to meet people and you know, and, and like I wanted to
talk about that too, because like you didn't know David
Prince, you didn't know what we hadn't met, but you know, you,
you just you, what made you rockup that day?
You're like, and and I want to preface this by saying car

(19:47):
things happen and you know, it'sthey're they're cars are like a
key to making things happen. Absolutely.
And a big part of this podcast is because of what happened to a
car. For me, I was telling Trevor
story last week about the Kombi van getting crushed.
I think I might have mentioned it to you guys.
And if it wasn't for that happening, I wouldn't have met
you. I wouldn't have met David.

(20:07):
I wouldn't have met Ed. I wouldn't have met, you know,
Thomas yourself. Absolutely.
These these events happen. These things happen.
I I like it, you know, call it divine intervention or whatever
you want to call it, but like it's, you know, bringing that
card to that highball event thatday, Yeah, I think it changed
your life, like. I 110 million percent like it

(20:29):
was and it was really, it was a,it was a sort of a mutual
friend, but you know, it was actually, no, what I'm saying it
was a friend of mine that he, hesaid I should come along and I
was like, oh, look, I don't think they'll want to have
Magnus at this. He's like, no, no, no, you
should, you should come along. And really I, I'm really ashamed

(20:51):
of myself. I, I remember I drove in and I
literally got out of the car as quickly as I could, locked it
and walked away. And I, and I feel really ashamed
that I actually did. But I was like, oh, you know, I
saw these, you know, amazing Alfa Romeo's coming in lame
again. And I just pulled up and, and
walked away and literally, well, maybe 10 minutes later I was

(21:11):
walking back and this, this friend of mine, Nigel, he's
like, mate, you've got to come back to your car.
You're not going to believe what's happening.
And I had in my head that they were literally picking it up and
like pushing it out the like pushing it out the gates or
something. And I walked back and there was,
there was people were just like cute around it, taking photos.
He said, just take a step back and take this in for a minute

(21:32):
because it's, it's weird. And it's a $600.00 Magna.
Yeah, you know, that's, that's that's you know, and that was
where it all started. And then from there, I met John,
who is one of the main organisers of highball, which
then introduced me to David. David introduced me to you guys.
Yeah. I started listening to the
podcast. You're right.
It's like this. It's like a domino effect in a

(21:56):
positive way. So now, you know, in my in my
40s, I've got this whole new world and whole new range of
amazing friends. Yeah, Yeah.
Which it doesn't happen a lot like it doesn't.
Yeah. So, yeah, life completely
changed from one car show and a $600.00 Magna.
I mean, that's that's kind of, yeah.

(22:17):
I find that just, yeah, I find that amazing because there's not
many things in life that can do that.
And, you know, I've said it before on the show, and I think
you boys would all agree cars are one of those things that
that that can that can do that definitely like that.
They bring people. You know, if I didn't, if I, if
I didn't stop Edward when he wasputting his jacket away, getting
ready to go and say, oh, we're in a 16.

(22:38):
I I wouldn't be here right now with you guys.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, it's just it's it's
crazy how that works and you know, I remember I remember when
your when your mag that was I was there that high board, David
Ed and I were just like, did yousee that?
No like. I'm madly trying to look for the
photos in in my in my phone really which is.

(22:58):
Pretty picky. Because I took photos of it on
that morning. Yeah, 2021 in between lockdowns,
Yeah. So I'm going to say it was.
I remember it was really cold. Yeah.
We found. A 16th of May 2021, that was.
Wow. Yep.
Yeah, it is so. Oh wow.

(23:21):
Oh wow. It's doesn't like my philtre,
but no, that's the car. You had a good spot too, like
you parked it. Yeah, that's so 3.
Photos Three photos. Let's advance Australia.
One of them is. How, how is that?
How? How does that cost 600 bucks?
Like it's too good to be 600. Yeah, it was.

(23:42):
And once again, it was that luckstory.
You know, I, I've been looking for years and years for that
particular car. And I think we spoke about this
when I was the last of the podcast few years ago now.
And just sheer luck, put up a post late at night saying has
anyone got this, this car, what a manual one, want a fuel

(24:03):
injected one, blah, blah, blah. And Michael Taylor wrote back
and said I've got 1 sitting in my shed in Horsham.
It's been sitting in there for five years.
Do you want to come and have a look at it?
If you like it, you can have the600 bucks.
And from there, meeting him, I mean, he's found parts and got
all of my magmas back on the road.
If it wasn't for him, then none of them would be running.

(24:26):
Another one would be on a club plate or anything like that.
So it's once again it's that it's yeah, domino effect of
meeting him. Therefore, buying other cars
goes on from there. You know so.
Tell us about him. So so where does where's he in
the realm of Bagnar? Like it's really so X tech or
anything. So Michael Taylor is his name

(24:47):
and he lives out in Jung, which is on the outskirts of Horsham.
Yeah. It's basically you turn you as
you're driving. When you drive through Horsham,
you do a left hand turn which takes you onto Adelaide, You do
a right hand turn onto the Heinty Hwy.
It's like just barren, kind of like a few farm houses and
broken up Rd. If you drive sort of 20

(25:08):
kilometres up the Hengee Hwy, his house is on a hill and you
just see Sigmas and Magna's sitting on the top of this hill
and 1 Ford Capri. Yeah.
And so it's so basically Michaelis a mechanic and being a

(25:29):
originally a Chrysler guy, then went on to Sigmas, went on to
Magna's and went on to three 80s.
And so he's been very loyal and all the way through, I mean,
even now, I mean he recommends anyone in the district by
Tritons or Pajeros and things like that.
So yeah, yeah. And so I mean, he's the he's the

(25:49):
go to guy. There was apparently another guy
up in Horsham that was a a Magnaguru and Michael like sort of
learned his tools are traded through this other guy who's
quite elderly now and retired. So, yeah.
And I mean, we, I remember the first phone call when I called
up about about the, the car, thebeige 1, I think the phone

(26:11):
conversation went for three hours.
Well, and by the end of it, I mean, I said, look, I think I've
got a friend here for life. And because we were just just
back and forth talking about it and, and he was telling me about
all the things that he's done. And so he's, he's originally,
he's really my, my go to guy as far as trying to find parts or
just asking for advice. The annoying thing is it is

(26:33):
Melbourne to Horsham. I've done a lot of those drives
and that's the tricky part. But even if he just recommends
things and I can try and find itin Melbourne.
But yeah, he's, I mean, he's really been the, the whole core
reason that all of my cars are running and he's found the
weirdest, hardest parts for themas well.
And I'm currently going through a bit of an ordeal with another

(26:57):
Magna just trying to get parts for it before Magna 40 and the
issue the original issue we had was the transmission had gone.
Good luck trying to find a transmission for ATM magnet from
1985 and they changed. Apparently they changed the the
casing and the plugs for them in1986.
So trying to find one year of a car and he found one in a

(27:21):
paddock in another car that had been reconditioned and it had
like 10,000 KS and the owner said well can I pay you to get
rid of it? So we've got a free transmission
for it, bolted it in and it's running like a dream.
So we've we've almost got that one through a roadworthy with
free parts. So yeah.
So, Chad, have you been notifiedabout this man?

(27:43):
I have heard about it from you, I think.
And then I spoke to Andrew and then I believe you and checked
with with him to see if he had any parts or TS and no luck,
unfortunately. But yeah, he does sound like a
like an urban legend, like just just the guy who lives in the
hills that has Magna's maybe you.

(28:05):
And how old is he? Sorry, Zinni.
'S, yeah. Like so he's probably about you
in about 15 years. Basically, yeah.
Plan to move to Horsham, guys. So that's all I know.
A place. That's that is funny.
Well, we'll have to get we have to get yours there.
Try like that. That's that needs to happen.

(28:27):
It's yeah. I mean, it's, it's, I have some
leads and I'm just working through them.
So yeah, I'm, I'm, yeah. Trying to do my best to make the
one month and two day deadline at this point, yeah.
We'll, we'll make it all right. And the event.
Let's talk about the event now. Magna Forty 18th of October.

(28:47):
Yep, Tonsley. Park.
Tonsley Park. Yep.
Tell us about it, who's involved, what's the day looking
like? You know, give us, give us a bit
of the run now. Sure, and I'll let David take
over some of this as well because I think he'll explain it
a lot better than I will actually, but I'll start it off.
So basically it's it's, it's basically like a cars and
coffee, but dedicated to Magnus and Varadas.

(29:11):
We've had a ticket link up for nearly six months now, which is
now closed. So originally the, the sort of
predicted amount of cars was I had a meeting with Mitsubishi
Motors Australia who are kindly backing us and, and, and helping
out, which has been amazing. I predicted 40 cars.

(29:34):
Everyone at the meeting laughed at me.
And so you're not going to get 40 cars at that event.
We closed it at 1:20. Well.
And I've got a waiting list of 35 cars and I'm getting daily
emails from other people saying is there any way you can put me
on that long waiting list? So I mean, look, people drop

(29:55):
out, you know, and come and go. But look, I, I predict with
people dropping out and all thatsort of stuff, there's
definitely going to be, if they're not inside the actual
building, because we've got an allocated area of the, of the
original Chrysler Mitsubishi building, there's going to be a
bit at least 130 cars. Yeah.

(30:15):
And this is all generations of, of Magnus and Varadas.
So we're going right back to 985.
I mean, the most incredible thing is that there's currently
25 first generation Magnus that are signed up, which I didn't
think would. I've never seen so many to
actually see them all together. I think I think you are.
Going to be googly eyed my friend.

(30:37):
Yeah, I think, I think David, you'll be running around with
box, a box of tissues. I think there's something like
I, I just, you know, to, to I think be such an emotional
experience. So yeah, so we've got, we're
fully, fully, fully beyond fullybooked.
But yeah, on the day it's a lockin event.
So cars will start coming to, I guess for a load in from 9:00.

(31:00):
The actual event is between 10:00 AM and 1:30, which is
really cool. The great thing is thanks to
people like yourself, Matt, who have helped us with designing
and stickers and everything. Everyone's going to have like
show bags. We've got, yes, stickers.
A good friend of ours who's an incredible Magna guru, Paul GAT,

(31:24):
You've probably seen him online.Yeah, mainly sharing Simpsons
memes. Yeah.
But his knowledge, yeah, his knowledge is, is out of this
world. And he's made these incredible,
like 3D, like printed magma, 40Krings.
So everyone, everyone gets an ice cream.
So we we've all, we'll all have one each participation ribbon.

(31:46):
Yes. Yes.
So when we come in we we've got a media wall.
So we've got a professional photographer, a really great
guy, Patrick Jackson, who works for retro rides and he does a
heap of different stuff online like car content.
He did a great story on Madden 40 a few months ago and took

(32:07):
some photos and stuff of my cars.
So he's going to be taking photos.
So everyone, every single car will have like a professional
photo when it comes in. So, yeah, because that's
something that I, I mean, I think highball's really, really
good that most cars get a photo taken.
But I, I have been to other shows and I won't mention names
that I've literally seen people walk along and take photos of

(32:30):
all the high end cars and then see a Magna, a Laser and a Camry
and literally skip those cars and then go to the Porsche.
It's just traffic. It's just traffic.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so I was determined that
every single person at least cansay, well, I've got a
professional photo of my car. That's awesome.
So yeah, we've got this six metre long media wall, it's

(32:50):
currently sitting in my living room so we've got to organise
that. You've got a very patient.
Line very, very patient beyond, beyond the St and from there
basically, yeah, we've got this is David's idea to have the cars
lined up like the end of the production line.
So we've got first generations in a line, we've got second

(33:11):
generations, third majority of the space will be taken up with
third generation cars. We've got like I think there's
like 15 rally arts. Wow, that's 20V RXS like really.
Yeah, a lot of sort of modified stuff as well, which would be
great. So that's kind of the main set
up there, which which would be really nice.
Yeah, that'd be cool, David. So the.

(33:32):
Historic Historic Trust SA have come to the party as well
because The Who who actually runwhen you first contacted them
around the beta bird would of course the the fellow that runs
at Dane Wilder, a lovely bloke who is involved with Historic
Trust SA has his grandfather's Magna that his grandfather
bought new so that there's there's little connections

(33:55):
everywhere all over the place inin on the ground in Adelaide.
So yeah, I mean for those that don't know I mean this the
Thompson Park is actually where the cars were manufactured and
where the cars are going to be displayed is actually the the
final production line. So it's it's not only is it a
cool really cool space, it's nowoccupied by Flinders University

(34:15):
and a lot of tech start up companies and the like.
But but yeah, it's got a real historical, historic connection
as well to the, to the area, thecity of Marion.
And also, you know, a lot of thepeople live around there were
involved in it. I think when production shut
down, there was a lot of, you know, sadness and a lot of

(34:37):
people feeling around it. But now, you know, 20 years on,
I, I really feel that's been replaced by nostalgia and just
the comments you're getting definitely from, from your from
your posts. Magnet turns 40 on Facebook.
It's brilliant the number of people that worked there that
said, oh, these were great years, you know, and, and
they'll be there on the day, youknow, I mean, we've, we've,

(34:59):
we've got 100 and 2000 and 30 cars actually coming to the
event. But there'll be a lot more
people than that there. I think there'll be a lot more
people. Yeah, who want to just come and
reminisce and have a look. There's a great cafe that's
going to be opening on on site on the day.
Three little pods is opening up for us and yeah, we've got a

(35:21):
number of people coming to to speak.
Andrew can fill you in with withthose as well.
And we're actually getting a bitof bit of media interest as
well, which is really encouraging too.
And then of course on the Sundaythe the cars that are are
eligible. I think we've got about 20 cars
actually into the beta bird, I think.

(35:43):
Andrew, Yeah. I think it's, I think it's a 20
now, yeah. Yeah.
But there'll actually be a separate Magnum meet on that
Sunday for like third generationpeople if they want to get.
I think that they're planning, I've got a couple of other S
Australian guys organising it. I think they might be going out
to like Wilonga or like out to the wine region and they can,

(36:06):
yeah, go out there or come to Beta Bird would.
Sadly the cars aren't eligible but at least it gives all those
people that have travelled like I mean a lot of guys are coming
from QLD. Yeah, but there's.
Two guys coming from WA. The drop driving across.
One guys driving, the other guy I saw online, he's trying to
organise like a trailer hire oneway from Perth to Tonsley Park.

(36:34):
Wow. So yeah, what people are
serious? I mean, I thought we had a tough
going from Vic. Yeah, with, with, with a close
estate. Yeah, exactly.
Yeah. So, yeah, it's, it's, it's just
kind of it's, it's absolutely. It's just, it's nuts.
It's yeah. Interesting sign, but we'll let
the cat out of the bag. I actually put a post up today

(36:55):
that we have a very, very special guest coming.
So Ed Ordinsky is actually goingto be at Magna 40 and hang out
with everyone. That's an incredible get.
Yeah. And for those who don't know Ed,
he's had like nearly 40 years ofrally championships.

(37:16):
I mean, there's a photo that popped up the other day that he
was driving, even driving Peter Brock's VP Commodore, like he
was showing Peter Brock because I think Peter Brock before,
well, he when he passed away, hewas getting into rally.
Yeah, yeah. Ed was a part of helping him or
helping him train or retrain for, for rally.
Well, so it's just he's just hadhis, you know, he mainly raced

(37:39):
Evos and VR fours and things like that.
But he was also behind a lot of the development with the rally
art and with the VRX and things like that.
So I had a hour and a half conversation with him and he's
like, look, I, he said, I've seen online and I've just seen
how it's grown and just been a natural, just enthusiast event.

(38:01):
He said, I, I want to be a part of it.
He said, what, what can I do? And I said, we'll look in the
perfect world, would you like tosay a few words?
And he said, yeah, you, you tellme when and I'll be there.
And we've been messaging back and forth, you know, my mate Ed
and, and he's been saying, look, yeah.
What? You best.
Friend, my best friend, you knowwhat, what can we?
What can we do? So it's it's it's a wonderful

(38:23):
thing. And yeah, once again, just
hopefully adding something else to the event that that people
will enjoy. I really.
Like that? Sorry, Andrew.
Sorry, Mehdi, you're just missing a tiny little snippet
that's very important in that story is that Mitsubishi
actually gave you access to a lot of their archival
information and and videos and films and stuff.

(38:43):
And you posted a video on on theon the Magnet 40 page of Ed
rallying ATR, a pre production TR sedan and, and someone tagged
him in it and he saw it and that's where it all started sort
of thing. That's when he sort of knew what
was happening and going on. So, you know, he's, that was,

(39:07):
that was how, that was how that little snippet came about.
Yeah, and the great thing was I was I was actually chatting to
Ed about it and he said he said I started going to car shows.
He said after you posted that video and he said people saying,
hey Ed, we didn't realise that you were doing all this.
And they and they were re that his friends were re sharing that
video over and over and over again.

(39:28):
So it's been shared like a quitea few 1000 times.
I think it's had like 40,000 views.
Let's see, I've never gone viralbefore, but that video of Ed
drifting of a TR prototype. And I said, how did you like, do
you remember the day? And he said, yeah, he said
basically we we got was somewhere like the back blocks

(39:50):
of the Adelaide Hills. And they said, oh, Ed, look,
they just want you to drive. And he said, well, what like
like a Family Guy or give me to drive it hard.
And they said, well, how about we do one take you just driving
it normally? And then just absolutely Fang
the thing out of it. And he said, OK, so they did one
take of him driving it sort of conservatively, and then they

(40:11):
did another one where he absolutely went, let it RIP.
And they said, cool, do you wantto go for a coffee?
Yeah. OK, cool.
So they had it knocked over and he was home in time for a
morning coffee. And if you watch that footage, I
mean, which way he has. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's yeah.
He's not Yeah. So.
So it's, it's great to hear the the back story and that he
remembered. Yeah.
I mean 1991 he did that one so. And that was a 4 cylinder.

(40:35):
He's not getting his hands on myV6 waggon.
Yeah. Yeah, but it was great that he
commented. And the lovely thing was there
was quite a few Magna gurus, Paul Gad as well, who, who
actually tagged Ed and said Ed, please drift my Magna.
So yeah. So yeah, it's it's, it's a

(40:57):
wonderful thing to have it involved and and lovely to chat
to someone so professional and so enthusiastic about it.
So yeah. Yeah, like that's, that's,
that's a huge get. I wonder if he was involved in
the in the all wheel drive programme like, you know, with,
with the, with the because he was, he was in some of the, you
know, what's it called the advertisements at the time.

(41:19):
Well, he did that ad that was banned because it was the one
between the comparison between the Falcon Commodore and so that
was actually banned on TV. But if you watch it, it's
actually a driving that. So I think he was behind the
development of it, but he certainly he said that when they
were looking. How did he explain it?
They had to give a top speed of it for for for Germany,

(41:43):
apparently because they wanted to send it to Germany and they
have to like for the specs for compliance or whatever you
however you want to say it. So he had to drive it and read
redline it to see what the top speed was.
And so they actually got Ed to do all that.
Yeah, all that work for them. So pretty, pretty amazing.

(42:04):
Can I just say what a nanny state?
Yeah. Like to ban that out.
It's not even that bad. Like, it's it's.
Yeah. Anyway, yeah, I mean, Scott,
he's got his he's always got histinfoil hat on.
Yeah, but what? What what are your thoughts,
Scotty? Are you a nanny state A. 100% is
Victoria's the worst. But dude, that's an amazing guy.

(42:28):
I can't wait to. I can't actually see him in
person. Yeah, I think there'll be quite
a queue of people that want to chat to him.
And yeah, I mean, I actually originally said to him, I said,
look, I don't want to take up too much of your time.
If you want to come at a specific time and then do a
little speech and go. He said no, no.
He said, well, when does it start?
I said, well, all the cars will will hopefully be in by 10:00,

(42:48):
so I'll just come. And you said, can I get a coffee
and I'll just just wander aroundand have a chat to some people.
And they said I can make a speech before the end of the
event. And he said, he said, I'll sort
of base it around my my time obviously with Mitsubishi and
with Magnes and the development I was behind.
And he said, and if there's any questions, he said, great.

(43:10):
And then I said I'll, I'll, I'llget off the mic, you know, so.
You wouldn't need chat and I with black uniforms glasses to
yeah security, you know securityis just sorry guys.
Yeah, you can't. Sorry.
Yeah, definitely. Meanwhile, him and I just
fangirling. Try not to try not to do it.

(43:33):
Yeah, no. So, so that's a huge get event
SA massive get like the the yeah, that's so they're they're
doing, they're helping you out with public liability and all
that. They've helped out with public
liability as, as David said, Dane has been incredible because
I've had to. I've been so lost with knowing
all the red tape stuff which I've never had to deal with this

(43:55):
sort of thing before. So Dane organises major events
in SA, not just car events like Beta Bird would.
But he does like he he was organising, they restored the
Priscilla Queen of the deserts, like the bus.
Yeah, yeah. So he, they did this big like
sort of like revealed it when itwas all done.
And so he was involved in tryingto get the logistics of driving

(44:18):
and across certain part of SA and like so he does all really
odd stuff as well. And he said look, email me
anytime. What's our meetings?
David and I have gone to SA and had meetings with with Dane and
with Mitsubishi Motors Australia.
And he's always been really positive and he's always said

(44:40):
just you throw me all your ideasand I can see if we can make it
happen. So even to the point that we
were hoping to get the original TM prototype that's currently
sitting in the National Museum. And he's like, he, he actually,
he pushed so much that we were very, very close.
But the problem is it sits on a podium.

(45:01):
You'd have to move. He said you'd have to move 20
cars to get to it. And it's not running.
And but we got to the point thatwe were discussing getting on a
truck, how to do it, how, you know, how many of us could push
it into the building. I was going to talk to you guys
about that as well. But yeah, luckily we have to do
that. But I mean, that's he's like I
said to him, look, I think it's impossible.

(45:23):
He said, well, let's just reallytry.
And we, I mean, look, unfortunately it is impossible.
But the fact that he tried to make that happen, I think that's
a you've got the right people onyour side.
As I said before, I'm lucky I'vegot people like Dane and David
and you guys that are like, let's just let's just go for it
and see as much as as much as wecan get done.

(45:43):
Let's let's do it A. 100%. So yeah, very, very lucky.
And Mitsubishi Australia. Mitsubishi Motors Australia.
Yep. Obviously, big corporate, big
Corp. Yep.
Were they in the same veil? Were they OK with?
Were they like, Oh yeah, that sounds like a grader?
Or were they kind of bit more conservative because carbons can

(46:04):
be quite conservative? With with what they mean,
absolutely. I mean, I'm, I'm sure David
feels the same way. They've they've been really
supportive, right. And they've given me access to
all this incredible archives. Yeah, footage and taking
meetings with me when especiallywhen like really when you
thinking corporate, I'd be at the absolute bottom of the

(46:25):
barrel of things that they have to worry about.
They still took the time out. Adam Davis at Mitsubishi Motors,
he is taking the time out to to listen to to me, to listen to
David, all of that back and forth emails like I said,
meetings in person and online. So it's been a lot, yeah, a lot

(46:45):
of support, which has been great.
And yeah, I was surprised as well.
But they've they've backed it and they've really tried and to
the point that we've actually got dr.com dot AU involved.
And that is because of of Adam basically liaising with them and
then getting David and I in touch with with dr.com dot AU

(47:08):
and they're supplying a car to come up on a convoy with us.
So basically dr.com dot AU will come up with us on the convoy to
South Australia. We'll have a support vehicle of
a of an Outlander or something just in case, you know,
something needs to be repaired and and then the whole event

(47:28):
will be should be on channel 93AW and drive.
We'll do little snippet videos along the way of us hopefully
not with Magna's overheating or anything like that.
It'll be positive stuff could begreat.
Yeah. But the great thing is I mean
that's that's Mitsubishi behind it and and funding it as well,

(47:49):
which is a huge help. That's massive.
Yeah. Like the fact that you got them
on board. No.
Especially with a car that they haven't had in production for
coming on 20 years. Yeah, it's 06.
They had production didn't. Mean that it's oh oh five yeah,
05 yeah. So.

(48:10):
Yeah, yeah, that's massive. Yeah, yeah, that, that's huge.
And and the fact that they've still, you know, they've backed
in and yeah, but if you find a bit of backed now, I'll always
say. It does dovetail nicely with
it's 45 years since Mitsubishi Motors was established in
Australia and and it's interesting all of the legacy

(48:31):
brands that that we have in Australia, all the established,
you know, particularly Japanese based brands that they have a
history in Australia that a lot of the new Chinese brands don't
have. So they're really trying to
leverage that. So it dovetails nicely into
their 45th anniversary celebrations as well.
I mean, I mean, I guess like when we've talked about it

(48:51):
before, but that's why like brands like Subaru, I know it's
a Magna show, but, but, but super like I've done really well
in this country because they they, they really rely on their
heritage and they've done that in their advertising campaigns.
Absolutely. And, and I think, I think that's
for them, like people that buy Subarus will continue to buy
Subarus. You know, yeah, absolutely.
It's a, it's a great thing. And if Mitsubishi won't want to
lean into their their heritage and so, you know, this is what

(49:14):
we did, what we, you know, people be like, Oh yeah, I
remember the man. Oh, my dad had a Magna.
Or listen, no, I might go to theMitsubishi dealership and have a
yeah, absolutely. You know, I'm after a new car
and. Yeah, yeah.
So yeah, absolutely. It's things that they need to
do. Sorry, sorry, John.
It's things that they need to dobecause you know, it it, it is
important. Yeah, I, I totally agree.
But it's looks sadly, yeah, a lot of corporate companies if

(49:36):
even if they're not cars, they're just not interested.
Absolutely. We've been lucky with this that
going into a meeting like that, I found it ridiculously
intimidating and overwhelming because I'm like, I'm just an
enthusiast just to just to hack, you know, like guitar.
Yeah, speaking to to these high end guys.
And I mean, thanks once again toDavid for giving me the

(49:59):
confidence and then having Davidthere as well.
Absolutely. That we I think we sold it well.
Yeah. So, yeah.
So again, massive get yeah, for the fact that they're on board.
Any other big events happening on the on the day and any other
things that are that are that are coming up coming about?
Because I know you said you've got, you've got the bags with
with stickers, you've got EdwardDinski, you've got them on

(50:21):
board, you've got the coffee shop open.
Yep, we'll also have each generation Magna all the
commercials. I've spent many many hours but
lots of fun compiling them all together.
So we've got ATV screen will be running at the back in out of
the back of my beige waggon on loop on loop throughout the

(50:43):
entire event. Yes, yeah, yeah.
And we've also got the the Tonsley pod, as David was
talking about. It's just kind of it's like a
sort of a funky looking portable.
Yeah, yeah. And it's got like, it's like a,
there's desks and it's got ATV screen and everything.
And we're going to have a lot ofthe archive footage running on

(51:06):
loop as well throughout the throughout the event.
So that was something else. I had lots of fun, many, many
late nights, but geez, it was fun to decide what should I put
on? You know, that that was that was
incredible to be able to do that.
So we'll have that running as well.
So, you know, if you need a bit of a break from all the magnas
in the main area, you can go into the Tonsley pod and just

(51:28):
chill out and watch magnas on video instead.
It's. You get Magnus of all
directions, yeah. It doesn't get any better.
Yeah, you're getting that. You're getting comic of the
again. Yeah, all of those ads, yes,
yeah. Yeah, it's it's, it's all
happening at Back to 40th Ladiesand.
Gentlemen, you consider a bird of grass?
Yeah. So, yeah, and then what we'll

(51:51):
have is after the event, obviously there's a bit of pack
down time and everything, but weare organising like a just a
really casual get together that night, the Saturday night at a,
A, a venue fairly close by that we're to be to be advised.
But we're David and I'm going togo and check it out next week
just to make sure it's up to Magna Standard.

(52:12):
But it's, it's quite, it's closeby anyway, so and that's just
open for whoever's available cancome along.
We'll definitely have details and everything up online and you
know that'd. Be a good location because it's
the if you find a better backed better built car and yeah you
know that's you didn't buy it Yeah so so you definitely yeah

(52:33):
what's the guy's name? He was head of Mitsuchini was
saying that it always, every time I.
So it's Tom Phillips. Tom Phillips.
That's it. Yeah.
Tom Phillips. He's in his chair and he's like,
if you find it like you, you buyit.
I'm like, well, Jake's a crazy theory.
That's his car. His actual car will be at the
event as well. Yeah, as a friend of mine who
actually owns his car and throughout the years he before

(52:56):
Tom passed away, he actually worked.
This guy's lovely guy, James Harris, who's he's coming up and
he just happened to be looking in the his blog book and he's
like, hang on a minute. T Phillips, he's looking at the
his service records like that's so Mitsubishi Motors Australia.
He's like, so he actually reached out to Tommy.
He's like, yeah, that's my car. It's one of one.

(53:19):
It's got like it's a rare interior for the actual model
and everything. So what?
Yeah. Yeah, you need colour combo and.
Weird, Yeah, David's Cena. It's it's a weird sort of colour
combo. It's like they didn't do, it's a
it's a TL Magna, but it's got like it's really, really high
spec and with the sunroof and yeah, but Tom said I want this,

(53:40):
this, this, this, this. And they said, well, no worries
Mr. Phillips, we'll make it for you.
And it's, it still exists. It's Immaculate.
And James has done an incrediblejob to to look after it.
So that car will be there as well, which is great.
Chad imagine finding imagine finding like a one of one.
Like, does that even exist in any other really?

(54:02):
I mean, I'm sure it does, but like in a weird Australian car
it's pretty probably a pretty hard.
Yeah, but. Like how bold would you be?
Like I'm the boss. Build it, you know you.
Know like. I want that and do it like it's
what are you going to say no to the boss?
Like definitely. That's I don't know if I send

(54:22):
you guys a story, but like I want to send it to David.
Did this one guy in in the 60s wanted wanted to it's in
America. Wanted to wanted a waggon.
Yeah, there was a Galaxy waggon or something and, and and but
wanted it with the big engine and and and and a manual and
they said it can't be done. But if you if you try, if you
send a letter to this to this guy, he might allow for you.

(54:45):
Yeah. And he sends gets any gets gets
a message back. And it's from Lee, Iacocca said.
Yep, if you put that through thedoor for you, it's like a one of
one car. Like it's it's not not a story
that I wanna see this car. Yeah, yeah, it's, it's it's
impressive. Yeah, I'll definitely be pointed
out. It's it's an impressive car and
incredible history. I mean, yeah, yeah.
I, I met James at a like a Magnum Madness meet up.

(55:07):
I think it was just before Christmas a few years ago, and
he started telling me the story and I just couldn't believe it.
And he said, look, and he was showing me all the documentation
and he showed me the emails backand forth with Tom.
And yeah, it's. It exists.
Yeah. How did how did he how did he
get it like, like what happened there?
He. He just bought it.
He always liked that particular model, but he said just sheer

(55:30):
luck that he bought the car at adecent price from a car yard
many years ago. Oh, you're hot.
Yeah. It was just sitting like in a
car yard in, in Footscray. And he said, oh, you know, it's
a good price. It's like kilometres.
I really like that model. It was a magma guy anyway, And
he said he bought it. And then he just, he said, you
know, as we do when we buy a car, we sit there for hours
going through the books and trying to work out where the

(55:53):
people that they still live there.
So you can go and tell them I got your car and all that sort
of stuff. And, and he was going through it
going hang on a minute. So, yeah, he said it was just
sheer luck that he said, I like the car.
I bought it purely because that was a model that I wanted to
have and it was the right price and good condition, blah, blah,
blah. And it was just the the absolute

(56:15):
cherry on top was the fact that it was Tom Phillips's personal
car. That's one, yeah.
It's amazing. Like even the car yard happened
to keep the books so that he wasable to chase it all back
because, you know, car yards probably just throw those in the
bin. Yeah, yeah, for the most part.
But yeah, that's so bloody awesome.
Yeah, just, I mean just sheer luck, yeah.
That's like so it's a one of onecolour as well.

(56:37):
One of one colour trim, yeah. What colour is it?
How do you describe it, David? It's, it's a really, it's a deep
burgundy, yeah, with a beige leather interior.
Wow. Because the burgundy cars I
think only came usually came with grey.
Right. So, so was the colour, is it, is

(56:57):
it a standard colour or was it that, that was like a rare
option for him? Well, apparently for him, that's
that's what I mean. I'm just purely going by what
James, I I feel off. I don't know a lot about the
later, like the TL. I mean I'm a first Gen astron
engined man of. Art.
Six man 2. .6 all the way, but but I'm going purely by what I

(57:17):
mean, James would know, but he said look, yeah, it's it's a
slightly different colour. And if you look at the VIN
number as well, it's like, you know, within the code there,
it's like, you know, 001. Yeah, yeah.
So, yeah. So that it's a slightly
different colour. And like David said, like the
interior, yeah, it's a kind of abeigey sort of colour, which

(57:38):
usually it wasn't as grey or black, I think.
And so is it a? Major of a verada.
It's a it's a all wheel drive verada.
OK, Yeah. But it's got different rims on
it from the normal ones. Like it's a real kind of it's
Frankenmagna, all the parts thatthat that that Tom wanted.
So yeah. Wow, that's cool.

(57:59):
It's pretty amazing. Imagine, imagine being on the
line working in that like building that car be like oh
it's the boss's card or not. Yeah, if you didn't like him,
make like big rattle in the interior, Yeah.
Where is this bloody hell come from?
I said if, I said these be if you find a better car, yeah.
Buy. It I'm going down to the Ford
dealership that that's a cool story.

(58:21):
Yeah, look, I, I, I mean, and there's, I mean, lots of stories
like that that you'll, everyone will will hear about on the day.
Yeah, hopefully we haven't spoken.
And I was hoping maybe he might be online tonight, Mr Bunting
might go around and have a chat to owners as well on the day.
But we'll, we'll have to sweet talk him and get him to do that
as well. Absolutely.

(58:42):
Absolutely, it's all our lovely Car Talk friends that are that
are making the the trick over. We're really excited to have you
along and you'll have a high visjacket on on the day in a
lanyard because we, we, we, we would really appreciate a bit of
help organising and parking more.
Than happy to. More than happy to help.
Thank you guys. You know, it's AI might feel
like I might feel important for a change, you know, so it's,

(59:08):
it's like, but they say when youwhen you got a high vis you're
important, you can go. Anywhere it's true, it's it's
very true. When Shad rocks up with his high
vis and his jumper, like I'm like.
Like you can walk into like the Formula One, for example.
Yeah, yeah. Just walk into the pit line and
we're like, yeah, I'm here to work.
What do you what do? You want?
What do you want? Oh yeah, or, or if you got a
ladder. Yeah, like you're walking in

(59:29):
with that. Yeah, yeah, just just yeah.
I'll buzz you through, mate. I'll be.
Yeah, that'll be something Scotty would do, I reckon.
I've thought about it, especially at the at the Grand
Prix, you know, where the photographers get to go up
really high. Yeah, Yeah.
And they're up there and I see it's kind of empty.
It's like, I just want to such agood view from up there.

(59:51):
I just want to just we're a highvis of some sort and he's like,
yeah, I'm just just heading up and just maintenance or
something. Just give it a go.
I'll. Tell you what, Scotty, I'll I'll
design you a a high vis with with, you know, press on it like
for the back, you know, and thenlike a.
That's all I need to get anywhere then.
Absolutely. You'd be like, just Oh yeah, no

(01:00:11):
worries. This way man.
Because there's so. Many cool spots I could end up.
I know if if you stand next to Max you're just taking a photo.
I'm here to interview you Max that.
Would be funny actually. Andrew, Speaking of Speaking of
merch, Andrew, that you you probably should do a shout out

(01:00:32):
for the merchandise link. Absolutely, yes.
So we do have some incredible merchandise that that Mister
Janina's have kindly helped us do and the designs are amazing.
I think if you go via, we do have it on on the on the Magna
page. But if you go via the car tour.

(01:00:53):
Yeah, it's on there as well. Yeah, you can.
You can even choose what colour you want and it's even like a
custom bit. Have you seen that?
I have, yeah. Where you can, I think like
change the. Bits and pieces.
Bits and pieces of it or something and make it smaller or
bigger or. You can.
You can make it a bit more unique.
Yeah. Wow.
Which is, which is kind of cool, but it's been, it's been

(01:01:14):
popular. Yeah, it's really lovely.
And I've had so many I've I've actually, I'm compiling once
again. I'm into all my compiling stuff
now, compiling all these photos of people wearing them that have
been sending me like really positive, beautiful messages.
Awesome. And I'll send it all your way.
I mean, if it wasn't for you, we.
Wouldn't have it. So it's, yeah, it's amazing.
So yeah, we're really grateful. And they they do look

(01:01:36):
incredible. And a massive bonus is, I mean,
the actual T-shirt is really good quality of stuff that yeah,
I was relieved. That was my next question
because like, I've ordered mine, but I haven't received it yet
and I spoke to my mate Luke. I'm like, how's the quality?
He's like, oh, it's great I'm like yeah, OK, good.
Well, that's good. It's good to know.
Yeah, so the. Tote bags are great.
I I haven't ordered a cap yet but if I don't know if anyone

(01:01:58):
has anyone ordered a cap? I haven't ordered a cap, David.
I haven't yet, but I will be. Yeah, but it's yeah, all
amazing, positive reviews. Everyone loves the design.
So yeah, we're, we're all very, very grateful.
So thank you so much, Maddie. No.
Absolutely, absolutely. I'm happy to help with that.
And you're happy to be part of it because it's like this is
like it's this type of stuff that excites me.

(01:02:20):
Yeah, it's it's it's really good.
Yeah. But you can find the merch on on
all your on all your pages on Magna turns 40.
Yes, Facebook. Yes.
I think on your Instagram as well.
Yeah, and I've shared it wherever I can.
So I've sort of shared it acrossvarious Magna pages, like Magna
Madness, and there's a TMTNTP Magna page for all those guys.

(01:02:46):
Yeah, on my personal stuff, obviously.
Yeah, through the Car Talk page and everything as well.
So yeah. Absolutely.
Like it's, it's, it's doing well.
Like people are really liking it.
I would, I would preface, try get it before 2 weeks before the
ship, before the thing could be it does take them about four or
five days to process them because like then it's not just
the ones that they're making, they're making, you know, 400

(01:03:07):
million other companies. Yeah, so and they just gets put
in order bang, bang, bang, bang. And then they'll they make them
as they go. So yeah, if you want to get up
before Magna 40th, get in there now, ish.
Yep. Because because now it's under a
month, Give yourself, I'd say give yourself three weeks, but
two weeks is should be. Sure.
Fingers crossed should be enough, but yeah, definitely a

(01:03:29):
lot of the early people I've seen like.
Because they won't be available at the event.
No, it's correct. That is correct that would that
would not be available at the event.
Because we'll be too busy havingfun to be, Yeah, selling.
Definitely. Too busy discussing all the,
all, all the, all the Astrons and all the, you know, all the,

(01:03:50):
all the goods, the good Magna and Varada Varada Biz.
But yeah, yeah, finally merged there.
And it'd be good to just to see how many people would be like
walking around wearing the Magnashirts.
Yeah, really cool. Absolutely.
There'll be a lot of them guaranteed.
I think, I think we could even possibly do like a little QR
code if they want to buy it, if they see it, like, oh, that's
really cool. We can definitely.
Yeah. You know, when they're at the
show. Yeah.
Yeah, that's a great idea. Yeah.

(01:04:11):
So like they can, you can have AQR code to that and they can,
they can, Yeah, I didn't get one, but I'll get one there.
So yeah. So, so, so that'd be pretty
cool. But yeah, no, I was happy to
help with that and, and glad, glad to see the the positive
response. Yeah.
It's been, yeah, absolutely wonderful.
Yeah. So any other things about the
day that's that's happening or is that that's pretty much the.

(01:04:32):
That's, I mean, that's the I think I've, I think I've covered
it. David, have I missed?
Yeah. Have you done a brilliant job?
I think. Look, I mean, the most important
thing is it is very I'm. Exhausted already if it's just
from the description. Definitely.
I mean, look, it's it ultimatelyonce we get the cars in there,
it is a really chilled event. There will be some, you know,
music running in the background that is period correct?

(01:04:56):
Yes. We had great fun on a trip back
from Adelaide doing a Magna 40 playlist.
Playlist. Yeah, we we haven't finished it
yet. David.
So I don't know and that is still a bit to do.
I think we're up to 1990. 5 was it?
I think, yeah, 1985 to 1995, we've done so fast.
So we've got another decade to go.
So that'll that'll be running. So yeah, it'll be kind of a

(01:05:20):
mismatch of noise on the day. So you'll have, you know,
carmaker of the year again, running over and over and over
and over again. Please consider and all that.
Then you'll have the Tonsley podrunning with all the the archive
stuff. And then you'll have, you know,
the Bengals in the background. And yeah, So it'll, it'll, yeah,

(01:05:41):
I, I look, I really hope everyone has a great time.
And yeah, it's going to be wonderful to to look back and
go, well, you know, this was just from enthusiasts and, and
supportive friends and, and partners, so.
I'm so excited to come. My partner's coming.
She's she's excited for. She's bringing her brother and
his kids are coming as well. Wonderful.

(01:06:03):
So like, yeah, they're, they're,they're all coming.
And yeah, like, there's so many people that are, like I said, my
friend Luke. Like, yeah.
He's making the trip across justto.
That's wonderful just to come. So, but Speaking of music, you
know, I was thinking like with music from that era, we can we
can talk about we can replace the, the a word of the, the song
with the word Magna. Yeah.
So, you know, we can we can do. Heaven is a place on Magna.

(01:06:24):
Yeah, we can do. I love.
It we can, we can do. All these different things are
running in my head like yeah, just just replace them with.
Magna, I've got the Magna's disease.
Yeah, that's OK. That's good.
That'll work. So yeah, but.
But Speaking of music, for thoseof you who don't know, on the

(01:06:45):
podcast, you are an incredible musician.
Thank you, mate. An incredible artist.
You and your wife are, are very, very talented individuals.
If I had that sort of talent with music, I'd be I'd be a I'd
be a happier man. But the leaving Willows been
around for a very long time, been doing great things.
You said you'd come here and performed and and yeah, yeah.

(01:07:06):
And did things. You've been all around the world
as a musician. You've brought in your guitar.
Yes. And you know, I'm assuming
you're wanting to give us some, some of those exploits.
Yeah, I thought if it's OK with you guys, I'll do the car quiz
tonight. It's slightly different to how
you usually do it, but I hope that it works.
We'll we'll find out. But basically I've got 10

(01:07:30):
questions and I'll what I'll do is I'll play snippets from car
commercials and you have to guess what the car is.
Awesome. Yeah, yeah, 100.
Percent extra points. Know the song, Yeah, if some of
them are jingles, I'll play a little snippets of, but if it's
actually a song to actually extra point, I thought for if

(01:07:50):
you know the song as well, how does that sound?
Absolutely, yeah. Amazing.
It sounds good. Chad and I are now going to be,
like, punching on. But it's.
Yeah. So.
So what what we'll do, because obviously we're in a bit of a
tight studio. We'll get you to take your mic
round that way round. OK, I'll get up the score sheet.

(01:08:12):
Yep. For those listeners at home,
Andrew's brought in this lovely acoustic guitar.
Has he got a name? Has he got a name?
Your guitar. This one doesn't and I I feel
awful. Everything else in my life has
names. No, it's.
It's the old hack. The the old hack.
Yeah. So we've got four players
tonight, myself, David Prince, Scotty Doe and the one and only

(01:08:36):
Chad Debell, who are battling itout for tonight's obviously
bragging rights. I mean, I mean, these are the
important questions we need answers, aren't they?
Yes, the the question everyone the whole world is asking about.
All right, so we've never done this before.
We've never had a library. It's pretty cool.

(01:08:57):
You're breaking new grounds. This is a Car Talk first, isn't
it? Live music on on.
It is. On Car Talk.
It is a Car Talk 1st and so you know, we, we we're normally very
conservative with our with our with our quiz.
No, Insta is usually, but you are and he has an incredible

(01:09:18):
musician and an incredible obviously an incredible human
because because you're because, because you're you've organised
back back in the 40th. Thank you man.
But Andrew Rigglesworth, this isyour quiz.
You're the quiz master. Please take it away.
Thank you. So as I said, I'm going to play
little snippets of commercial. I mean a lot of those car

(01:09:38):
commercials, what they'll do is they'll like play the intro part
to a song, cut out the verse, jump to the chorus.
So I'm going to play a little snippet.
I can, if you need, I can play alittle bit more.
I can give you some little sort of sort of pointers if you need
in the right direction. But I'm going to play yeah, a
little bit. So this is question number one.

(01:10:00):
Are you taking? So I want to say do.
We buzz in or do we wait for youto play the Jingle?
Well, that's a good question. Maybe.
I mean, what you've done before is you always buzz in the tube.
So how about we do that? I'll attempt.
I'll attempt to listen while I'mplaying.
All right. OK, you ready?
So this is question number one. OK, so this is an ad.
All right, here we go. Matthew, that was in a Hyundai

(01:10:25):
ad. Yep, Rev. I don't know the name
of something. I know it's like Rev it up, Rev
it up. I don't know the name of the
song though, but it's I know where that's from now.
What, So it's a Hyundai? Yeah, it's a.
Hyundai ads. Yep, half a point.
Half a point. I don't know the name of the
song though, but it was it was in.
It was a 90s commercial. They had it for their like excel
and sonatas and things. Yep, but I can't remember the

(01:10:48):
name of the song. OK.
So anyone else? So we, it's, it's the Hyundai,
it's the Hyundai XL. That was the main commercial.
Yeah, David. I think it's called drive, isn't
it? Incorrect.
You're close. You're definitely close.
Anyone. No, no, it's not called drive.
I know it. No.
Yeah, sing it. Sing it in your head.

(01:11:08):
David Scotty. Or or Chad, I'm.
Rubbish at this I'm I'm like, I'm yeah, I'm really bad at.
Pencils Scott Scott Ride. Close.
Oh, that's what I thought it was.
That's one. Yeah, I thought it.
Was because I just sung it through my head.
Then I was like, yeah. Doing a play there so that that

(01:11:30):
chorus is like she said, That's right.
Rev it up. Rev it up in the morning, right?
I don't know the name. I know the song, but I don't
know the name of the song. So, yeah, so it's should I,
should I tell you? Yeah.
OK, so we've got it's the Hyundai XL from 1994.

(01:11:51):
It's Rev It Up by Jerry Harrison.
OK. Wonder well.
Yeah, but it was on Goal 104 allthe time.
Yeah, it was the Hyundai XL and I think yeah, they had the
Sonata as well, I think. I think they they might have,
you know, like I remember, I remember in a clip, I remember
the XL being there. Yeah, and.

(01:12:12):
It's like the whole world spinning.
Like yeah, like the the. Yeah, I know the and.
There's like, like horses and stuff coming around and yeah.
I remember that ad because my uncle bought A-95 XL brand and
it's and every time I said, oh, that's that song, you know, put
the two and two together from the ad.
Yeah, I was, I was a sick child.So yeah, OK, I'll take .5.

(01:12:35):
Yeah, we'll go. With.
You all right? So question #2 All right, so
this is another song. OK, so we need to guess what
What ad? What Car?
This was a car ad. This was from.
Oh yeah. Toyota Corolla?

(01:12:55):
Yes, it's got a weird name. The song.
It does, yeah. It's.
Tony, it's a. Toyota Corolla it's.
Oh jeez, can I buzz in? It's like.
Psalm 37 or it's like, it's likea weird name.
I'll take .5 for the for the forthe Corolla.

(01:13:16):
OK, Scott's next. Scott's next, I think.
Scott's dying to blur. Yeah, that's it.
Perfect. Oh.
So he gets the full point in theseries because he named the song
and the artist. Or how should Yeah, so I think.
What we can do is we can do. A point, point.
Yeah, a point for the car and a point for the song.
Yeah, we'll go with. That is that cool .5?
H are we gonna put 5H? We put .5 H for both components.

(01:13:39):
Yep, yeah. Did this song as a performance
in primary school with with withmade like made up fake
instruments that we made out of cardboard.
Yeah, it was so cool. So.
What Corolla was it? It was like the the.

(01:14:04):
So 1999. Yeah.
Blobby shape, yeah. Yeah, yeah, and for like 1 year
they had those really round lights and then they then they
did the facelift very quickly because everyone hated them.
Yeah. So that's yeah.
So question. Yeah, yeah.
So yeah, it's very cool. Question #3 this is a tough one.

(01:14:24):
So I feel like if anyone can getit, you should have a full point
because I'm going to, it's actually not a song.
I'm actually going to play the Jingle.
OK, this is made for the ad, right?
This was actually this this Jingle was written specifically
for this commercial. OK, OK.
So yeah, All right. Here we go, Matthew.
That's easy. Hey Charger.

(01:14:45):
Yeah, yeah. That's what was that.
I thought that would be really. Hard.
I've listened to that numerous times.
My mate's got a VJ charger and we always.
Do HRG. Oh wow.
Should I just play it for? Yeah, sorry, this is this is the
actual. It's actually usually played on
a flute. Yeah.

(01:15:14):
Key change. Hey, Charger.
Hey Charger, I saw. To.
This day I think that is the best Australian coyote of all.
Time. Oh, it's incredible.
It's incredible. That was actually Laura's
because I was trying to compile,so she's like, you should do the

(01:15:35):
charger out. I said well it's not a flute,
but I'll try. And work it out.
Do your exploits like go to flute usage?
Or. Yeah, I'll go and brought a
recorder in. Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, bring out the old recorder.
Well done Maddie. That was.
I thought that one would be a. Was out of the.

(01:15:56):
Bag, I told you I'm a sick individual.
My wife says I'm autistic and I understand why.
Like it's, it's stuff like. This.
She might be on something. You're a teacher too, man, you
know. Awesome.
All right, question #4 OK. Chad.

(01:16:18):
Chad. Chad.
This is for the VZ SS Ute. Yep.
And it's Thunderstruck by AC, Yeah.
Well done. Well.
Job Chad. Well done.
Well done, mate. That was great.
All right. That's the only one I'm gonna
get, I reckon. Chad's like Chad.
That was a great ad too, that. Was great.

(01:16:43):
Great ad yeah, yeah, good one. Great song.
Great song, awesome song. All right, so question #5 all
right, so I'm actually, I might just sing a little bit of this
as well because it's sort of a hard 1 otherwise to hear what
it's from. OK, so sound like this, you're

(01:17:04):
on your own. You do as you please, having so
much fun, going to last. Your reason.
After all said and done, are youstill having fun?
Yeah, I can remember the ad. I can't remember the ad.
Should I give you a bit of a hint?

(01:17:24):
Is it? I'll complain again.
Can I? Ask for the.
Euro yeah. Decade.
Yep. So it's 2000s.
Yep. This is this is a tough one that
the I thought the Charger 1 and this one would be the the tricky
yeah, I can play it again. Yeah.
Do it all the time. Yeah, yeah, true.

(01:17:45):
Can you do is it please? Having so much fun gonna last
you reason. After all said and done, are you
still having fun? I want.
To say it'd. BE AI can give you another hint
if you like. Sure, European.
It's a European. Car so.

(01:18:09):
Not Australian. That one threw me off, yeah.
Damage. That's me.
For six. So, David, you said you remember
the ad. I remember the ad Can I can I
say Peugeot? Incorrect.
Incorrect. Definitely.
Obviously European. Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's. That's what I thought of.

(01:18:31):
Is it called still still having fun?
Yep. No, it was.
Probably David. Yeah.
Thank you. What if I get the band?
I know the band. Oh yeah, yeah, OK What's what's
the band? Scotty.
Eagle eye Cherry. Yep, it is.
There you go. Well done Scotty.
Should we see the car? Got that one on my playlist.

(01:18:52):
It's a good song, isn't? It Yeah, it is.
Yeah. They got a couple good songs
actually. Yeah, that's safe tonight as
well. See.
Yes, yeah, I love that one. It's.
Eagle eye Cherry. Yeah, I.
Wanna say something really obscure?
Yeah, it's a tough one. I'm trying to think what else I

(01:19:14):
can. I can say that.
Country. Possibly Germany.
Germany, OK, you actually. Know Volkswagen Golf?
Incorrect. Anyone else want to have a go
chance to get a? Chance to I'm going to say Audi.
Incorrect. It's tough one, I know.

(01:19:37):
I. Want to go like Renault Scenic?
Incorrect. I like the specificity.
Specificity. That's not the right word.
I like how specific you were, Chad, you you went in
specifically scenic. Should I, should I let the cat
out of the bag? All right, so it's the Mercedes

(01:19:59):
Benz C Class C Class. OK, if you.
Remember the ad it was on TV a lot at the time.
Is it all where you him and his wife in the.
Car. Then yeah, and he got this.
Playing in the background, yeah. And they're smiling at each
other and they've just spent like $80,000.
On AC class, so it was a silver.C Class too, yes.

(01:20:22):
Yep, exactly right. What?
What area is that? Like 20?
22203. 2. 03, Yeah, yeah. So there you go.
Yeah. I'm so that was question. 4 So
that was question 5. So we're going to give a score.
Check, because that's the halfway point.
Yep, Chad won. David .5 Scotty won.
Myself on 2. So anybody's game, gentlemen.
Anybody's game? All right, here we go.

(01:20:44):
So this is a question number six, Matthew.
For territory. Yeah, amazing.
By something, Lloyd. Yep, Yep.
You've always got it. You've always got it.
Alex Lloyd. Alex Lloyd, Correct.
Well done. That was a banger of an that's.

(01:21:07):
A great song and great. Song yeah, I'll just quickly
play it for it because it's a really cool it's.
A. Beautiful like.

(01:21:29):
Beautiful song. It's actually a.
Beautiful. Song.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's such. A sweet you know, like he says,
you know you. Didn't make well.
Like we didn't make things. We were amazing.
We were amazing things. Yeah.
It's a beautiful song. Actually, it's a really cool
what? About happening here.
There's actually an amazing, there you go, amazing, that
Australian story, Australian story about Alex Lloyd that came

(01:21:52):
out a couple of weeks ago. It's worth the watch.
I'm not going to give it away, but he's been to sort of hell
and back, OK. Yeah, because he was like, he
came out with that, like with that song.
Yeah, it was huge, massive, hugeone.
Yep. And then.
All of a sudden, like it was just like a lights which he was.
Born. Yep.
If you watch if you watch it, it'll all make sense why he
disappeared. So yeah.

(01:22:14):
OK. Yeah, question #7 OK, this one's
hard to play on the guitar, but I'll try.
All right, so. But.
It's OK, here we go. David.
Yes, David. It's it's the Holden Rodeo.

(01:22:36):
Yes. And it's.
I don't know it's the Spanish name of the song, but it was
something 1 tonne, 1 tonne a man.
Yeah, exactly right. Yeah.
And it's actually a traditional Cuban song.
So I there you go, actually findthe original writer.

(01:22:57):
But it's been covered so many times over the years.
Yeah, that's cool. But yeah, but I mean, they
obviously they, they changed thewords to one time rodeo.
Yeah. One time rodeo.
They sing it all out of tune as well.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wonderful.
Wonderful, yeah. Thorna.
Rodeo. Well done, David that.

(01:23:18):
Was a good one. This is question #8.
All right, here we go. Matthew, Oh, David Cordia.
Yes. And they changed the words to
courtier. They did, yes.
But the song's called. Gloria, Gloria, well done.

(01:23:39):
Yeah, bye. Bye it.
Was a bye, yeah. It's another one hit wonder so
if you can get this 10. No, that's a bit harsh.
So if anyone else can get. It I'll give them .5 because I
don't. Know David?
Who is Laura Branigan? Yes, well done, David.
She was kind of a one hit wonder, wasn't she?
Like she was? Makes you rest in fish.

(01:24:02):
No longer with her, sadly. She's pretty brutal.
She was all right. Put a cracker of a song.
It's a great song and I mean that whenever I sadly, whenever
I hear that song, the original song, I'm automatically going
Cordia. Yeah, yeah.
Scordia Romeo. OK, question #9 OK, here we go.

(01:24:35):
Now I don't know if this is the remake of the original, but is
it a 7 nation army? No, correct.
OK. Yeah, that is the.
Eurythmics. Yep.
Oh, of course. It's complete from the song and

(01:24:55):
the song, yeah. Come on Maddie, let's go.
Come on, give. Me to play it again or I know
that was I. Just I just it's oh, Jesus
Christ. What?
Are we doing what I made of this?
Come on, come on, I. Can play it again.
For you play it again. I'll.
I'll sing it in my head. And sweet dreams I made, I made

(01:25:18):
of these, yeah. So we've got the song, we we
need the car. It's not for.
A. Whole marine is it?
No. Correct, I'll.
Take the point. Five.
Yeah. Anyone else?
Should I start giving some little?
I can't think of the car. OK, I can't think of the car
that came with that song. OK.
What about I'll give you the eraactually I'll give you I'll give

(01:25:41):
you the year. So it's 2017.
Oh, OK. Yep, OK.
I mean the song came out in the 80s but but it was reused for
this commercial. Jeez, I can't recall any light
year. Ads.
Ad even. Yeah, that would.
Have that song. OK, where's?

(01:26:01):
Ed He's a big. Eddie Leonard, Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, I, I, I that's sort of, yeah.
I was hoping that Ed would be ontonight because I think he
would, he would do well. OK, I'll, I'll give another
little hint. Well, hopefully a big hint.
A Japanese car. I can play it again for you.
It's basically on the ad. They actually just loop that.

(01:26:31):
David, was it Subaru? No.
Incorrect. Please tell me it wasn't Honda.
Anyone else I'm. Scotty Yes.
When did the new super come out?It wasn't that far back, was it?
No. Yeah.

(01:26:52):
OK, no, well, I. Mean Earth dreams are coming to
mind from Honda. I'm sorry Scott.
I mean Scott is left. Scott is the last one left to
tell the. Guess I'm gonna say Toyota.
Incorrect. What was it?
OK, so it was the Honda Civic. Honda Civic.

(01:27:12):
David Prince has got to take offhis shirt.
Oh. No, he's.
He's done. He's out.
Hang up the keys mate. Hopeless hopes so. 2017, David,
what? What model would that be for
Honda Civic? I actually didn't have that
written down for a point. Yeah. 10th Gen I think.
Point 5.5. Yeah, 10th Gen 2017, OK.

(01:27:37):
So the final, the final question.
So this is, it's not for a car commercial, it is for an
organisation that have cars involved, OK.
Hopefully that when I play this it makes sense at the moment.
I know it sounds very vague. Let me just let me, let me just
play it for you and see if you you recognise it.

(01:27:59):
That's. A.
TAC Yes, Oh yes. Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep.
Yep, who and who's a boy I know.I know, I know.
I'll let David go in next. Yeah, for that one, as soon as
I'll keep kicking myself because.
It's like. I'll take the point. 5 for the

(01:28:23):
name of the song. And it's here actually, but I
don't. I don't know who.
Yep, I can't remember. Who did it, David?
Is it R.E.M.? Yep, correct.
But. It was, yeah.
Yeah, gentlemen, that concludes the car quiz.
I just like that is. Brilliant.
That's very. Good.
Very, very cool, Andrew. Like creative way of doing that,
yeah. Wonder what he's going to do for
us next week? It was a lot of fun to actually

(01:28:47):
put it together and to to find commercials.
There's so many great car commercials, but try to find a
way of just being able to play it on the acoustic.
A lot of them just didn't work. So I'd sort of go back to the
drawing board and go cool, this one works like some of them are
no brainers like the like song. Yeah, amazing.
Yeah, easy to do the blur one that's played on guitar.

(01:29:09):
The Hyundai XL 1 was great fun because that's actually played
on an electric guitar thunderstruction thing.
But some of the other ones like. The Rodeo 1 was really hard.
Didn't have maracas handy. No, I didn't, no.
So it was actually a lot of fun to do it.
So not good enough where? Was the flute, yeah.
Next, Next one. Next podcast.

(01:29:29):
Yeah. Yeah.
But thanks for letting me do that.
I've actually always wanted to do that.
Oh, brilliant. So thank you.
Yeah. That's awesome.
I mean, the points don't matter.You're.
The winner of. Tonight, So who, who won?
They're all winners. They're.
All winners. They're all winners.
So score check, Chad and Scotty are on one, David on 123, myself

(01:29:54):
on 12345. I would.
Like to thank Maddie. I would like to thank Alex
Lloyd, yeah. I would like to thank.
I'd like to thank all the car companies involved, but most of
all I'd like to thank you Andrew, because that was that
was. Arguably the best quiz we've

(01:30:15):
ever had. Thank you mate.
Appreciate. It that's arguably, definitely
the the greatest and and we've had some crackers.
Yeah, you've had some amazing ones.
But that, that you know, you know, bringing in, bringing the
guitar in and, and, and having you go, oh, brilliant.
So, so, so honestly, mate, that that you're a star.
Big, big honour for me to do it,so thank you.
Thanks guys. I'll have to get my my, my, my

(01:30:36):
old piano books out and start. So let's start with some
learning again. I've got I've got to be able to
top you somehow. That's it.
Because like, all my quizzes aregoing to suck now.
You're just going to rock out with the triangle.
It's the song. It's the song, guys.

(01:30:58):
You'll just hear David like bring back.
But no mate, that was, that was a good time.
That was the only good laugh. So thanks so much guys.
I really appreciate you letting me come in and I'm sorry, I I
sort of took over the podcast talk, not at all all things
Magnus, but. Really appreciate yeah, all your

(01:31:19):
support. And I mean, I, I, I genuinely
mean this, I listen to the podcast every single week.
So it's it's a real highlight ofthe morning and afternoon for
me. Driving to work, driving home.
We've had a bad day. I put the podcast on and
listened to you guys. It's always fun.
So thank you that. Means.
The water, yeah, it's really kind, man.

(01:31:39):
I mean, yeah, it's like we just do this and it's, you know, it's
a bit of a. You know, just killing time on a
Tuesday night. Or yeah, but it's just so
genuine. Well, that's the thing.
I, I, I think you, it's, it's clear to the listeners that you
guys are just great mates that just talk cars and all the
knowledge that you've all got. I mean, it's, it's I've, I've,

(01:32:00):
I've learnt so much. I mean, I've my, my knowledge of
cars is very, very specific to. Yeah.
Maggie's and Camry's, basically.So I, I've yeah, the, the amount
of like the, the, the learning curve for me has been amazing
so. Yes, it's, you know, it's people
like you, those, you know, the reason we do the show.
I mean the whole idea behind thewhole premise behind the show.

(01:32:23):
And when Scotty and I became good mates at work because we
just on our shift, we do no workuntil cars.
Yeah. And that was pretty much the
extent. You'd be.
You'd be actually doing the workand.
What was it? The closing routine And you'd be
fixing everything and up. And I'm just following you
around talking crap. I don't know what I was meant to

(01:32:45):
be doing. I can't remember what my job
was. Managing.
Boss managing. Or doing something, I don't
know, but I'm just too busy talking to Matt while he's.
Fixing up the whole book area orwherever he might be, and I'm
just talking. But like like stuff like that
and like I talked to like otherwise you've been on the

(01:33:05):
show and you who have families and like couple on Tuesdays,
like good friends of Adam and Adam Grasso and and James and
all those people who who like you trendsetted on the show,
even I mean Adam's a big, big part of the reason why the show
exists. Because definitely.
Because, because we'd be catching up for like, you know,
for a drink or something and or,you know, going out for dinner.
And we'd be just hours just talking like this, just.

(01:33:26):
Just just. Yeah, it's wonderful.
Yeah, we're. Like why don't we actually just
record us doing? It.
Yeah, absolutely. And our first episodes were
horrific because we're like, OK,we've got to be structured,
we've got to do this. We've got to do.
That, yeah. I think, I think finding that
the balance of just like, you know what, let's just be
ourselves and just talk. Absolutely.
You know, like we've got our basic, you know, cut updates and
the topic and the quiz, but likeit's just still us just mainly

(01:33:49):
talking. Yeah, absolutely.
And and if people want to listento that, like that's.
But people do, people do. That's that's the fantastic
thing. So yeah, keep it up.
It's just amazing. Appreciate it.
Mate love to have you back Andrew.
Oh, you look, it'd be great. I'll start working on the car
quiz. Can you please bring in a
triangle for school? Yes, I will.

(01:34:09):
Yeah. All right, Scott, it's for you.
Ting. Ting.
Yeah. No, but Adrian, we'll have to
get you back on. We'll have to get a, we'll have
to do a Magna 40th recap. Yeah, absolutely.
I think that'd be. Great.
Yeah, postponed that 40th, I think that'll I don't want to
talk about it until then. I think that'll be really cool.
I was even thinking like bringing like just my recorder

(01:34:31):
and just recording some parts ofthe of the event.
Yeah. Brilliant and just just just
walking around. Hey, Andrew, you know, like and
just add it into like a special.Do it like a little special
podcast. Sounds good.
Which you know, which would be fun for the day so.
But mate, thank you so much for taking the time out.
No problem. Yeah, for coming out this way.
Well, good. Thanks for listening to the

(01:34:51):
show. Yeah, I love it.
It's it's pretty much you and mymom.
No, I'm kidding and and no, but honestly, it's I'm glad.
I'm glad to have helped you on this journey with with, with my.
Yeah. And I'm sorry, honoured that
you, that you'd ask us to, to bepart of it.
Yeah, it's gonna be, it's gonna be wonderful.
And it's been a great process sofar, so.

(01:35:15):
It's all up from here. Like, yeah, it's a business end
again, just just like, you know,I mean, I'm not, I think, you
know, I'm not going to step on David's wisdom here, but but
just just enjoy it. Yeah.
Like I know you'll be running around, but just take a step
back and be like. Soak it in.
Soak it in. Yeah, absolutely.
Sorry. I.
Think I think that's that's a big thing.

(01:35:35):
Thank you. But anyway, I think we're I
think that's a podcast. Yeah, yeah, let's give some
plugs. You want any plugs?
Obviously make the 40th so 18th of.
So it's, yeah, so it's Saturday the 18th of October at Tonsley
Park. It's the Tonsley Innovation
District. If you type that in, it'll come
up in the on the Google Maps andall that stuff.

(01:35:55):
Obviously it's in South Australia.
And yeah, we're basically the the actual show is kicking off
at 10:00 and we'll be there until 1:30, probably a bit
after, but cars will start rolling in from 9:00.
And you know, all our sports aregoing to be there so you can
come say hi. But also, you know, if you see

(01:36:16):
Andrew, please, please thank youfor his efforts because it's a,
it's a, it's a mammoth task. And you know, you deserve, you
deserve all the thanks you get for it because it's thanks, man.
It's really put the light on for, for, for, for this car.
So thank you. It's great.
It's appreciate it. I honestly can't wait.
I think Steph's just had enough of me talking about yeah over
the past. Yeah.
Sorry, but that it'll be great. Looking forward to it.

(01:36:39):
So yeah, it plays for your musicas well, because like, you're an
incredible musician. Like people just heard you play
some incredible. Music.
Oh yeah, we have. We can go to
theweepingwillows.com dot AU andit's got gig guide and videos
and free music. That's the case these days.
On the spotifies and all that sort of stuff.
So yeah. Are there still tickets

(01:37:00):
available for November, Andrew? Yes, yes, we do have a we.
We these days Sally, don't do many Melbourne shows.
We used to, we used to play 5 or6 nights a week, but we've got a
rare Melbourne show at Chapel off Chapel, so it's November the
24th. Tomorrow's, as you know, payday
for us. All right, yeah, I'm going to

(01:37:22):
buy my ticket tomorrow, so that'll that'll.
Be great. Thank you.
David's wisdom. I've got, I've got, I've got a
pillar tonight, I think. I think we've talked a bit about
it tonight. You need to celebrate life and
you need to celebrate your friends.
And I'd like to wish Maddie JA very happy birthday for

(01:37:45):
tomorrow, you mate. Happy birthday.
Cheers. Yes, thank you.
Thank you. That's all 30.
Four years young. The 34th trip around the sun.
So it's funny, Steph, Steph gaveme, gave me like a box last
night of a of, of like the little gifts and stuff.
And she's like, because I know you'll be.

(01:38:06):
Too pre birthday presents. That's cool.
She's like, I know you'll be toobusy tonight and tomorrow I'm at
work. And then her and Pam got this.
They watched this show. What's it called?
Somewhere I turned pretty. So so she's like, we won't be
doing anything until that's finished.
So she's like, just I want to get this in now before, before,
before it's over. I'm like, OK.
Can I talk to her about that show?

(01:38:26):
I watch it too. Yeah, by all means.
I'm, I've got sucked into it. I've, I've watched it and I'm
waiting for the last episode. That's tomorrow here.
It's honestly like, I, I mean, Ican't deny I've kind of like, I
was like, what is this crap? And then yeah, and I'd be like,
so who's the one that cheated? And now I'm hashtag Team Conrad,
but. It's all about Conrad, yeah.

(01:38:47):
Conrad But yeah, it's it's it's it's it's quite it's quite a
funny show, but I will be makingsure I will be out doing doing
something at that at that point in time.
But thank you, David. That's really long.
Thank you, gentlemen, for the for the birthday wishes.
No problem. Chad's deliveries delivering to
a place in the U. Yeah, order it and I'll make
sure it gets there or something.Chad's magnet T-shirts, I mean.

(01:39:08):
If you've got a transmission or please let us know.
If you've got a transmission forTS Magna locally in Melbourne,
that'd be great. I'm taking all applicants and
yeah, we'll, you know, make it work or something.
We're going to talk about getting your parts for the other
bits, so we'll all get that done.
Scotty's golf tip of the week. I don't have a golf tip of the

(01:39:28):
week today. I just want to say thank you to
Andrew for coming onto the show.No problem.
So it was awesome. The quiz was awesome and just I
would be given an event that he's put together for.
Not for just Mitsubishi power event, but something so specific
because you you were talking about, you know, you have all

(01:39:50):
four day. Yeah.
And that's of course that's going to be big.
That's a lot of cars, you know, but you don't have things like
an all Falcon day or anything like that that pops up.
So to have something like an allmagnet day that everybody can
relate to. And I don't ever really consider
it as. You know a super expensive car,

(01:40:13):
but when you see one and you seeit nice and clean and original,
it just sparks something in any person that's into cars, you can
relate to that, and I think that's what's drawn in so many
people. It's bigger, it's called
passion. And that's, that's what we all
have. That's why we we do this a.

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
