(00:05):
There's a professional radio. There was this front wheel drive
so. Have you got anyone you want to
thank? Just myself and now I do the
after hours, gentlemen. What would you go for?
They see us in there. OK, and because it's not a super
(00:29):
duck. What it is, it's not.
Automatic perfection comes in the form of 2 letters A&U.
Long live my Ltd. Welcome to Carl to get shoes out
here at 98.9 NW Affirm. It's me, Maddie J online with Mr
Edward Bunting, Mr Dave Prince and Mr Scorido Johnson.
(00:51):
How are you gentlemen? Hello.
Thank you all good, good. B.
Greetings to you. How are you, Matthew?
Good. I've been waiting for someone to
ask me how I've been and. We all care, Matthew.
We all care. Thank you.
We don't care. Get on with it, Matthew.
Move on with it. Tickety Boo.
Yeah, Tickety Boo. No, I'm good.
(01:13):
I'm good. Thank you for asking.
Edward. Eduardo.
How have you guys been? Edward Bunting?
You were first on tonight. How are you going?
Yes, Edward is quite well personlike you know like a School
Report could pay more attention during English.
Yeah, no, quite good. In terms of hang on, is this how
are you or is this car updates? You can lead it into how are you
(01:35):
into car updates, that's fine. Well, I think let's be
efficient. Let's just do car updates.
So where did we get to last time?
I bought. A Triton.
Did I mention that last time you.
Did. Yep.
So OK, we've talked about the Triton I bought last week.
Maybe the one you haven't heard about is a Hyundai Gets.
(01:57):
It's my first ever gets. Great car.
They are a good car. It gets a good gets.
It gets. Now of course when one buys
something from an auction, you don't get the chance to sort of
drive it necessarily. My friend did have a walk around
a few cars including this one and said no, it looks pretty
(02:17):
tidy, you know. Now this is a 50,000 kilometre
jet, so this has not done a lot of KS 07 model so.
What's that the? Big Block 1.6.
Yeah, 1.6 big block, Yeah. So 50,000 K manual, 2 door gets
1.6. So I thought, oh, that's a good
(02:37):
thing. And I picked it up on Friday
about lunchtime. And the guy who sort of brings
them around to the office where you picked them up said, oh, the
clutch is pretty high, It might need an adjustment.
And I'm thinking it won't need an adjustment, it will need a
clutch. So I got in it.
My God, it is the worst clutch I've ever experienced, though.
(03:02):
It's so worn, you know, the, the, the gripping and then not
gripping like when it's fully out, you know, so it's sort of
like grip and then not gripping then gripping down here.
I was telling David this early today.
So I, I crawled it out of Mannheim and started to drive
home and then thought, oh man, I've got to go up the Westgate.
(03:24):
How's this going to go? This.
This is not going to go well. And I thought if it dies on the
Westgate, there's no service lane.
I was just sort of projecting Vadnais, but I stuck to the left
lane, third gear and just feathered it up there.
And I thought I'm moving forwardas long as I'm moving.
I was doing like 45. There's trucks right behind me,
really getting annoyed. But once I got to the top, I was
(03:45):
able to sort of scoot down the other side.
And then I decided to take Kingsway because that's less
risky than the tunnel. I thought if it dies on the the
slow creep out of the tunnel, I'm screwed, so I made it home
and then very quickly packed it and didn't touch it again.
But that I just thought yeah normally you'd drive it.
Now the clutch is a bit worn. None.
(04:06):
This thing is gone you. Know who's owned that car
originally, right? Well, I know it it it's one lady
owner. She's in every receipt right up
till recently and I'm guessing she's a little older and I think
she's ridden the hell out of that.
I would have said so. Yeah, 'cause to to kill a clutch
in 50,000. You're doing quite well.
Was that a undercover car? No, no, it wasn't just I don't
(04:31):
know if that was traded in somewhere or or if she stopped
driving or who knows, but it butit's got an amazing service
issue. Every service in the book, every
receipt in the book, you know, like it's all there.
And ironically, at the last service, which is in Feb this
year, not that long ago, you know, you read the service,
changed the oil, the spark plugs, did this, did this, did
this. This was at my car or somewhere.
(04:53):
No mention of clutch, not a mention.
And I thought surely in 800 kilometres it's dunce from then
to now, you know, surely it would have been worn then and
they would have said we recommend you do a clutch unless
they didn't drive it, which it can happen.
(05:14):
You know, I thought, don't know test drive or anything.
I just found that strange. I'm almost tempted to ring them
and just be like, hey, report anything on this car at all.
Like it's, it's the worst I've ever felt.
So anyway, so that'll be gettinga clutch next week.
What's the plan with this car? Like I said.
This is just a buy and sell, then I'll then I'll sort of
(05:34):
advertise it and yeah, on we roll.
I like a guess that's a few. It's really tidy.
It's that light metallic blue and you know, 2 keys, factory
mats, original radio, like it's a, it's a tiny little thing.
Good little runner for someone. That one.
The Triton got a detail today. I lost the E Class for about a
(05:55):
week because it went to my parents on, they borrowed it and
then they both got COVID so theycouldn't come back.
And then and then it was sort ofjust offline for a while.
I had to sort of delay the roadworthy check on that till
next week. What else have I done?
I put new headlights in the Triton rather than having the
Polish. Sometimes you can go online and
just find them quite cheap. So for $189 I think it was for
(06:19):
the pair. I got 2 brand new headlights
delivered to my home and yeah, pretty easy to pull the old ones
out the bin and makes a big difference to the there's so
many old cars just really look abit average in the front because
of the lights. The Swift, I sold the little
auto Swift, 59 messages on that car.
(06:41):
So an auto Swift at reasonable money with the road.
He's a very good seller. And I think the Moke, I went to
drive the Moke on Sunday becausethe sun was out and as I backed
it out of the garage, I sort of was walking up to the front of
it and I thought, oh, there's a few drips coming from underneath
there. What, pray tell, is that liquid?
I thought it was coolant, but it's not, it's petrol.
(07:04):
And I'll increase that to the petrol pump, which is mechanical
on the back of the motor and oneof the, you know, there's an
inlet hose and an, and an outletside or whatever. 1 of it was
spewing out from the end of one of them.
And I thought it was actually from the top of the pump itself.
But I really do think it's the hose.
And so I've got to just chop a bit off that, you know, to get
rid of the split sort of and reattach.
(07:25):
And that should solve it. I think I did ring the MIC guy
and sort of describe the pump and he said, yeah, I think, I
think it'll be that. Yeah.
That's an easy fix. That's an easy fix even I can do
that. That's my car updates.
I think nothing else rings a bell.
(07:46):
Very good, David Prince. Updates with me.
I've been enjoying using the N1 more the last couple of weeks
while I've been batching. That's become my go to car.
I've got the ZRV tucked up in the driveway.
Had that serviced for $199 driveway no more to pay cut
(08:07):
price you know Service plan 199 so that's done. 30,000 KS now
30. Jeez, that's racked him up.
Yeah, 30 terracing how? Long have you had that?
It'll be two years in September.Oh, OK.
(08:27):
September had a call from the Volkswagen dealership actually,
who sold me the Caddy four and three quarter years ago to make
an appointment to discuss my options at the end of my
options. When does the lease come up?
Not till December, but yeah, they're getting in early I
(08:49):
suppose. Probably.
And what if David in the financial year I'm I'm guessing,
yeah, yeah. What are you?
Thinking David, will you continue in the Caddy?
I can tell you David would have said.
My officers are. I've never bought a caddy again,
but that's. Well, I think he will, because
there's not much else. There's not much else.
You're completely correct. I'm not spending $55,000 on a
(09:10):
new new van, though it's going to be close to 55 for what I've
got now. The only advantage is that
mine's still worth not much short of what I paid for it,
which is crazy given that it's it's only done 65,000 KS.
How many? How much more warranty has it
got? It well, it's that expires in
December as well. Yes.
(09:34):
So I went into one Volkswagen dealer.
It's a tough one because the, like you say, the price of the
new one is sort of exorbitantly more, yeah, not really worth it.
And yet you don't want to be in one out of warranty either.
Sort of a tough position to be wedged into.
It is. It is, but I I assumed this was
coming. I've still got a question mark
(09:55):
over the squeaky earbox. I've talked to a couple of
aftermarket places that say yeah, we can change the oil in
them. The dealer won't change the oil.
I've even asked if they'll do it, you know, and I'll pay for
it. But no, no, no, you don't need
to. They're sealed for life.
Yeah. Well, their life is very short,
so change. Correct, correct.
Define life. Define life.
(10:18):
Define life. So yeah, I'll see what they have
to say, but you know, I think there's a residual 9 grand or
something. So that's basically what it
loaned me at the end of the end of it.
But it's probably worth close to30.
So you know I'm if I could find something interesting to replace
it with. Maybe a Japanese import van?
(10:41):
I wondered about that I could buy a nearly new K car and a new
nearly new nvan what it was, butis it big enough?
It would be big enough. You'd do that.
You know you wouldn't, you can'tseal off the the compartment
from the paints and all that sort of stuff, which some people
(11:02):
who have driven my caddy have said, well you can't do it now
either, but there is a bulkhead in it to separate the.
But you could you could have a custom something put in that
someone would do that for. Me, absolutely.
Yeah, it's not as. Easy I would.
Need a fibreglass and rubber rubber seal around the edge?
Nice matter, doesn't matter. A bit of fabrication.
(11:25):
Yeah, yeah. Where's Rob when you're leading?
So yeah, anyway, I'll, I'll tossaround a few options.
I don't actually mind just paying it out and keeping it for
another 12 months and just see what happens.
Famous last word. You did that last time and you
had some big bills. No, no, no.
I sort of Oh no, no, no. Last year I had a five year
lease with a three year warranty.
(11:46):
This one, I had a five year warranty with a five year lease.
That's why it's still under warranty.
So yeah, I mean, if I did get rid of it in the next few
months, it would still have factory warranty.
So what was just? Retire and don't need a van.
Well, that might be one of the considerations, so you know.
Even better, just alleviate thatwhole problem all together.
(12:09):
You just want him all to yourself, Edward, so he can do
all your work. Yeah, it would be handy having
David more available, yes. It would.
It would. And I'll come to you.
You know I can come to you. Nice, but probably the highlight
of my my my week car wise was a quick trip to Adelaide.
I flew over to Adelaide on Friday morning to meet with Mr
(12:33):
Andrew Ricklesworth, he and and his blue wife Laura, who had
arranged a meeting with the headof Public relations from
Mitsubishi and a fellow who is Ipresume, Historic Trust, SA I
think they call it, who run the Beta Birdwood and also run all
sorts of events tied into S Australian Government
(12:56):
Department. That's tied into running events
of historical significance, which, as it turns out, Magna 40
is an event of historical significance.
Is it really? It is.
We had an on site meeting at theTonsley Innovation District,
which is the old factory which has been really interestingly
(13:19):
repurposed. There's a very large space,
about 1600 square metres. Undercover or outdoors?
Undercover. So is that what we're going to
be indoors? Indoors, yes, there's there's a
great, there's a like a looks almost like a portable classroom
in the middle. It's quite funkily styled and
(13:40):
designed. And that's the Tonsley pod,
which has a big screen in it forvideo presentations, seats about
30 or 40 people. So yeah, the meeting, you'd say.
Very, very. Productive indeed.
So all the things are moving forwards towards October 18th,
(14:01):
19th and then Saturday morning we had breakfast and jumped in
Camille, the Camry, the 2002 waggon, that's Andrew's everyday
transport that turned over 400,000 K's A.
Click. On the way over and just drove
home without without the slightest hesitation.
(14:22):
It's a Camry. It's a Camry, it's a Camry.
And what what KS are on it when he got it 60 something, I think,
yeah. 60 he's got it 16 years and they had 60 on it when he
bought it. Wow, wow, that's.
X Children's Hospital car, I think he said it was.
Yeah. But, you know, like a fleet car
sort of thing. And he bought it from Chadstone
Toyota. Yeah.
(14:45):
So sorry. I saw a 2 tone V6 one of those
yesterday on a club plate. I'm like far out.
That's wow. And that's a 4 cylinder, isn't
it David? He's cut.
Yes, yeah. Yeah.
So it's a two point. 2 two, yeah.
Yeah, 2.2. Yeah, but I drove some of the
(15:08):
way and, and Laura drove some ofthe way and Andrew drove some of
the way and the the trip just whipped fast.
Mind you, we were compiling a Magna 40 playlist for the event
and going through the top top 100 Australian songs of 1985
through to about 1991. So we've done the first six
years of the playlist. OK, that was a lot of fun.
(15:30):
I got to say, some absolute crackers in there.
So yeah, no. But really, really good weekend,
great company and fantastic. Oh, we stayed, we stayed at the,
there's a Mantra Hotel in the, in the in the air in the
innovation district. Yeah.
So it's literally a minute's walk to the to where the event's
(15:51):
being held. So perfect.
There'll be there are some roomsavailable there if people
haven't made other. Arrangements I've.
Booked the Magna frat house. The Magna frat house.
I know, I know. Yeah.
Frat frat. House is sorted.
Lovely, lovely. So, yeah, Corey.
Me. Mr Turbo Terry is joining.
(16:13):
Turbo Terry, this is unheard. Of Mr Turbo Terry himself.
Anthony, how you doing? Three years.
Not too bad lads, I exist. Turbo Terry, this is like, this
is like some sort of mirage I'm seeing.
The stars of a line, Mr Bunting. How rare to have you on Car
Talk? Busy man these days, busy man.
(16:34):
Evidently. How we all been going, guys, How
we all been doing. Yeah, Good, good, good.
Good. Good.
Getting some sleep. Yeah, yeah, I can't complain.
She's little one's actually beena been a sleeping machine of
recent. The other night she end up doing
from 6:00 PM to 11:00 AM with a handful of dream feeds in there.
(16:54):
Wow. Yeah.
So I am taking it and rolling with it at the moment.
Got a little little baby camera going for the moment while Jess
is doing having a bit of a fee which has been down for probably
the last hour and a half. Excellent, I've.
Got a lovely shift at 5:00 AM tomorrow morning, so I'm going
(17:16):
to be off to sleep in the in theshort times, but unfortunately I
can't delve into details on thatone.
That one there's something for for another time, for the more
interesting events that's not onthe public broadcasting is.
It to do with the mushroom. Not quite, but some people will
(17:39):
get some nice awakenings. Ah, Yep.
Yep, Yep. Yep, Yep, Yep.
Long as it's not my. House.
Ah look, you know I can always make a quick detour for.
I ain't done nothing. I ain't done nothing.
Yeah, that's, that's what they all say.
That's what they all say. I swear, I swear.
We're just in. We're just in car updates
(18:02):
currently. We're up to now.
Scotty Scotty updates with you. No real car updates.
I gave the blade a wash, but it was kind of pointless.
Yeah. After today and our parking lot
is kind of gravelly mud, so that'll flicked up.
That'll flicked up and dirtied it again.
(18:22):
So that was pretty annoying. Played golf on Sunday.
Not really car stuff, but you know.
I was going to say you need to get there in a said vehicle.
Yeah, yeah, it was a nice drive. That back Rd's getting a little
bit bumpy, though. They need to patch that up a bit
so it wasn't as fun as it usually is.
(18:43):
From where? To where?
Heading up to water end. From Sunbury.
Yeah. Yeah, so I go the back, go to
the back roads, and that way youcan go to like Hanging Rock and
Mount Macedon and stuff. So no freeways or anything.
I don't take the freeway. Yeah.
And yeah, it's just getting a little bit rough around there.
I think the roads, potholes popping up everywhere, need to
(19:06):
patch them up. But it's still a nice drive.
It's really nice view and everything so.
You know what? I.
Mean where the where the held out and I'm.
I'm hearing Mayor Scotty needs to needs to make an appearance
and say hey, listen. I think it may be more road
work, Scotty, more than anythingelse.
You got to be more effective. It's like, just get out there,
fix it, do something, do something.
(19:28):
But then if you get them to do Rd works, it'll be closed for a
couple of years. Yeah.
True. That's just with signage.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, They do that to fix
any kind of issues, yeah. There's huge industry in making
rough road ahead signs. Yeah, a guy with the school with
(19:48):
was driving on this road and andhe misused like it, it was just
the for the 40 signage for the road works for a good six months
and nothing was getting done. So he's like, no, I'm going to
go, I don't care. I'm going to do 80 kilometres
per hour. And the one time we did 80 KS
and now he got pulled over and lost his licence and he's like,
they haven't done any road works.
Nothing's happened in six months, so.
He wasn't very happy with with that, so yeah, but no, I I
(20:11):
understood his frustration quitewell.
Near Water Gardens, there was near an intersection, there's
this big, big dip that sunk in and they just had a sign there
for so long that just said careful dip, didn't bother
fixing or anything and it was pretty bad.
I mean, if you tried to go at just normal speed, the speed
(20:33):
limit, it would do some damage. But yeah, they just had that
sign up. That was it.
I. Thought you'd be careful of the
dip mate. That's it.
Just be careful of the dip. No fixing took them forever.
The sign's gone now and it's. Yeah, I guess it's fixed.
Probably won't last very long though.
Yeah, never does. But you know, tinfoil hat on,
yeah? They're on.
(20:55):
Yeah, I reckon they do it on purpose so they can go back,
keep getting that, keep getting that money, so they fix it, you
know, not the best on purpose. So they get to go back and fix
it again in, you know, 12 monthstime.
So it's an ongoing cycle. So they've always got work.
Absolutely. Guarantee I'll keep mine on.
(21:20):
So in the 31 going well. Going.
Around, I haven't driven it. It's been sitting there for a
bit. Oh, I did get I did get one of
these my new Speedo. Hey.
So it's people listening in. It looks like a the very first
Game Boy. So it looks like one of those
(21:42):
and it's Speedo. Yep, I put one in my car and
it's great. It's it's awesome.
Be better than the heads up one that's in there at the moment
that's just hard to read and everything.
So this will be much better. Yeah.
So I'll plug that one in soon and then, yeah, take it for
another drive. Very nice, Mr Terry.
(22:02):
Not really much on the way of updates, you know, Crown's still
breathing, so that's a start. Territories doing territory
things and it's chugging along, still making its Choo Choo
noises, still drinking like a fish.
Yeah, not really. Not really anything in the way
of car updates. Again, still, still hunting
around for for options and considerations later on down the
(22:25):
track. The most recent one was there
was AV 60 that popped up in the T8 variant, which was pretty,
pretty solid deal for 2019. And you know, unfortunately that
one there is already already gone.
That was snapped up pretty quickly.
It had like 70,000 KS and that was like 46 ish thereabouts.
(22:52):
Other than that, there's, I guess this is, this is, this is
probably actually something which can be a topic I think
that I sort of throw in there and it can maybe, maybe Ed can
sort of answer this one with hisBillings in dealing with cars
and everything going on. But the topic can be why do
dealers do this when you've got a car, which is when you've got
(23:13):
a car and a watch list? They keep dropping the price.
There's an XC90 at the moment that I'm keeping an eye on,
which was down AT49999 drive away and they've re bumped the
price back up to 54, triple 9. And time and time and time again
(23:34):
you see them where they always just go in cycles.
They drop back and drop back anddrop back.
They've been sitting there for ages.
And then it's always sporadically they're like, we'll
just bump up the price by 5-6 grand for the sake of it.
The reason I think the reason why they've done that is because
it's not there so long. They've got, they've had to pay
the repayment on it. And so they're like, well.
(23:55):
It owes us more now. Oh, I'm, I'm sure it is, but I
mean, again, it's, it's trying to get blood from a stone sort
of situation. If nobody's going to buy it at
the 49, why the fuck are they going to buy it at?
Why the hell are they going to buy it for another 5 grand on
top of it? It's just a little bit a little
bit bizarre and that. I must admit I I wouldn't do
(24:15):
that unless there would become really good reason like, oh,
I've placed all the tyres and the gearboxes, I don't know.
Yeah, I could understand something like that if that was
the case, which would then lead you to have more questions about
the car than anything else. I mean, I even remember it was
probably a good two or three years ago when I was having a
(24:37):
look at the BMW 750IL one that was an auction house that was
initially at like 14 or 15 grand.
And sorry, no, it was in an auction house that sold in the
end for 12 grand. A dealer ended up listing it for
like, 1516. And I was interested in it at
about that point. But again, you know, as it
(24:59):
always is, it's just not never the right time.
And then all of a sudden they jumped it up to like 38.
Yeah, Yeah. And I sent them a message and I
said, hey, guys, look, I've beenwatching this for like, the last
six months. I'm interested in it, but I just
want to know what's actually being done to justify the
increase of, of all this money. And their response was just,
(25:22):
yeah, no, it's actually a collectible car.
So we just, nothing's been done to it.
We just want to increase the price.
But if you look at what happened, it caused you to
contact them and that's probablywhat they want.
Yeah, it causes me to contact them, but it doesn't cause me to
buy the car, which I think that's really what they want.
(25:44):
But they might then get you in based on that and sell it to you
back at 18990 or something. You know, sometimes I'll just do
it to, yeah, I suppose get a just have something happen, some
sort of action on it, you know, whether it's quizzical or what.
But. Yeah, yeah.
Might be that. It was it was on Gumtree.
So I mean you can always expect the quality that there is there,
(26:07):
but you should still. The IL on Gumtree What?
What what go wrong with? That oh look, don't get me
wrong, it was had the full books, had all the insurance and
outs and everything for it even managed to find the original
auction listing that had all thesame details as well.
Interior was Immaculate. It had I think in the end it was
(26:28):
like 140,000 KS and it looked like it was genuine 140,000 KS
sort of car. I think that was a was, it was a
79 or an 80 as well. So in 19791980 it just looked
like it had been just sat in story the full time, which
obviously is problematic in itself.
(26:49):
You can imagine all the rubbers are going to be perished in
that. But you know what could go wrong
with the five litre V12 from Europe in the 80s?
You're a brave man. Yeah.
There's something about them, and it was the clamshell bonnet
as well. So I mean that just added to it.
(27:11):
They're a cool car. They're like, there's no denying
they're a cool car, but you're abrave man, Anthony.
Dumb, a lot of would say. You would you do the work on it
yourself? Can you?
Can you? Are you that mechanical
aptitude? I was in like just changing all
the rubbers and whatnot in the car.
(27:32):
Look, probably not, but you knowit would really be.
I would still consider it if forhow little lower drive a car and
again, obviously you're absolutely.
Sorry, go on. Yeah, I was going to say,
obviously it's an absolutely calculated sort of situation of
things and it's not going to be a daily car.
(27:52):
You know, even for the for the Crown, I think in the time that
I've had that which has now beenseven or eight years, I think
I've done 7000 KS. So I mean, it would literally be
seldom used, and given that it'san old V12 Beamer, you would
have to drive it so seldomly in case something went wrong.
(28:12):
But you're absolutely running the Golub with anything like
that. Well, if anything goes wrong,
you're like I said said with with R129 SLS, it's 2 grand.
It just like it starts, starts at 2 grand.
It's it's. Two.
Yeah, yeah. So if you just don't drive it
and just stare at it a lot, you're fine.
(28:33):
Yeah. Yeah, correct.
It's a lovely thing to stare at.I totally agree with that.
Absolutely beautiful thing to stare at.
Occasionally turn over and then just hope like hell that nothing
breaks in the interim. Absolutely.
So, yeah. But territory's good though,
yeah? Yeah, territory's good still,
still doing its thing. I think it's probably got
(28:56):
another 4 or 5000 KS for the next service.
The only other things I'm considering at the moment, which
I need to probably still finish up is again, when I, whenever I
have time, whenever that exists,is redoing that bit of the cut
and Polish on the crown's roof to try and get some of that
oxidisation, which has sort of gone on with it for ages.
(29:16):
But just try and put a bit of shine back into it and a bit of
protection on it. And then look, I said I've, I've
had the crown for a long time. It's it's probably time to sort
of move it on, but you know, tryand at least neaten it up a
little bit more than what it is,all things considered.
And again, there's not very manyroyal salons that are floating
(29:38):
around from the 80s and even less that have their sellers
have an entire garage for the dismantle ground in there
either. And I mean, mind you as well,
I've still got the, the spare engine and transmission, which
is sitting up at my mechanics, which I haven't, I haven't
spoken to him. Probably probably should give
him a call because he's been sitting there for over 12 months
(29:58):
now. But he, he was going to going to
see if he could get to turnover because it got probably about
2/3 of a wave of rotation and got, got stuck on something.
So it's either going to be a bigpaperweight or it, it could be a
value. But I mean, that had, I think it
was 170,000 KS. So I mean it's better than 310
that the shells got on it, you know, even if the even if the
(30:22):
engines cooked to still have a spare trans and still something
decent. Yeah, you know, extra extra
parts, extra selling points. Nice.
Nice now very good. What about you, Maddie?
Updates with me. What have I done?
I've been a really I've been really flat out I I've picked up
(30:42):
the MR2, so I've been driving that driving that around the
laser hit 350,000 cars. I don't know if I mentioned that
on the show, but I think I mentioned.
Yes. And last week the I've owned the
Fiesta. Not 4. 100 so can't get too
excited. It's not for that.
And not. Sorry, so sorry, Andrew, it's
(31:04):
not. So I've from yesterday
officially earned the the Fiestafor three years.
Like I was like, what the hell. Wow. 3.
Years that's gone quick. That's gone quick.
So, so yeah, to that that's. And and and how many times have
you driven it or is it more juststill Steph driving?
Steph drives out a lot more thanI.
Do so, yeah. Yeah.
(31:24):
Except for the steps back and then stuff like that.
So yeah, I. How many case is that done in
three years? It's just hit 10,000 case, so
OK. Yeah.
Yeah, it's, it's driven a few times a week and it's, it's, you
know, it's nice. I, I drove the Typhoon on
Saturday. I haven't driven that in a while
and took that out and I kind of fell in love with it again
(31:44):
because I was, I was just kind of like, oh, I was just sitting
there and then I drive it and I'm like, oh, This is why I like
this car. So that was good to give it,
give it a nice burn. And yeah, got her on the boost
and it was like, Oh yeah, that'sit's surprisingly quick that
car. So it reminds me of like, I
don't you know it because it's actually quite smooth.
(32:07):
It doesn't feel the speed it's doing when I look down at the
Speedo and you're well over 100 and you're like, OK, I probably
should, you know, kind of ease back off that now.
But when it does it in six gear and you don't have to drop a
gear, you know, it's just it's it feels really it it feels way
faster than it should be. So you say, yeah, that was good.
Gave it a good run. Enjoyed that.
(32:30):
And that's pretty much it on my car Updates now, gentlemen.
Now Eddie Bunting in particular was not here when we've done
this last The Who bought this when new.
And I mean to to do 1. I think Anthony, you've played
around at this, sort of you've played around, David, you've
played around at this. I'm excited.
(32:50):
I'm excited for this so. Every answer is Ed Bunting.
Every answer is. Yeah, I've never bought a new
car in my life. Every car that you purchased is
deemed as a new car. Well it's new to me, but exactly
I don't think I'll ever buy a new car.
I really honestly don't see everand any reason why I would.
(33:11):
There are less and less that youaspire to, that's for sure.
Oh, it's not. Even that, it's just, you know,
even if there's something I want, like a Jimmy, I would love
a new Jimmy, but I would go and find a new Jimmy that's three
years old, that's done for 2000 K and save myself 10 grand like
that. I would always do that.
Never be a brand new dealership straight brand new.
(33:33):
I don't think so. There's.
Too much depreciation on it unless you got, you know again
company car sort of situation ofthings.
I've driven plenty of new cars because I had them as work cars
for many years there, but but I've never gone and bought a new
car and I yeah, it'd have to be something like pretty special
for me to consider doing that. Yeah, I bought the one that I've
(33:57):
that I wanted and I said, well, this is this would be it.
And it wasn't, it was pricey, but it wasn't like ridiculously
expensive. And I'm like, you know what?
I'm happy that I that I that made that purchase.
So yeah, it's if it was anythingmore, I would have been lucky
enough so, but but then again, when I was looking, the second
(34:18):
hand ones were more than the more than the when they were
new. So I was like, well, that's but
anyway, the first one is a car that Edwin Bunting has owned at
one point and oh, for a long time, this car was the only one
of this brand he owned. So Edward, when was The Who
bought? I'm going to ask you all
actually, who bought a Ford Taurus gear brand new and when
(34:42):
was the last time you've seen one?
I cannot remember the last time I've seen one, but but who
bought them new? Now Ford's selling point for
this car was it didn't have needto have a major service for
about 150,000 KS when it had to have its time belt done.
That was their that was their kind of look, look at look at
how good our selling point is that you you only have to do oil
(35:03):
and philtre until until then. That's not you know, you're
struggling with. That's the selling point when
who bought these new because this is meant to be the the
Falcon replacement. Remember, like this is that they
brought here to to to say that this is going to going to
replace your. Waters.
Your your Falcon. Who bought it new and when was
the last time that you guys haveseen one?
(35:25):
I couldn't tell you when I saw one last, probably.
I. Owned.
Who would have bought that new? They weren't specific.
They weren't particularly cheap. No, they were pricing.
A gear A Taurus gear was what inin the 50s?
I want to double check that. I want to Fact Check that while
you guys get. Fact checked that I think it
would have been bought by certainly no one at Oh, no,
(35:50):
look, it might have been someoneat Ford might have gotten one
because they got such a heavy discount they thought, oh,
bugger it, you know? And they had them, a lot of them
lying around, and they sold them.
Yeah, and they would have offered them to staff, you know,
55 grand Taurus gear might have been, you know, 32 to staff and
you might go, oh, bugger it. I'll, I'll, I'll have that.
I'll have that for the wife who would have bought it new.
(36:12):
I think the the skew would have been male.
I think the skew would have beenmale who didn't know cars and
who was bamboozled by the curvy panels and the fact that had.
Wanted something a little bit sporty making quote unquote.
Like someone who's talked themselves into it from the
(36:33):
suburbs. I don't think it would have been
a city dweller, I think it wouldhave been outer suburban and
they would have seen good value compared to an Ltd or a or a
fair lane and a bit more modern maybe.
So I'm going to say 50 plus yearold living in outer suburban
Melbourne with no sense of tasteor style whatsoever.
(36:55):
That's. A good one, yeah.
And and male. That's what I would have said.
Oh, you see, you see, I'd be, I'd go different on that.
I'd, I'd say that it would be. I said I think there would have
been a high percentage of femaleowners.
Really. Because they were the premium,
but they'll market it as a premium Ford at the time, but
(37:18):
smaller than like an Ltd and or a fair lane one of those sort of
cars. So you and it was a bit more
exclusive, not there weren't as many of them around.
Oh, there weren't as many, that's true.
And they came in like metallic, metallic mushroom.
Like purple and. Green.
And Yep. Yep, I was.
(37:39):
I was doing work for bibs to walk forward in queue when they
were released. I I can remember them clearly as
being and. What were your thoughts when you
walked up to the first? Hideous.
Hideous. Yeah, they, they, the the pre
delivery guys were not a fan of them either, but they, they also
had that American cache, you know, they're actually, you
(38:00):
know, Ford's an American company.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. From.
America, but the fact they're a bit smaller, maybe it was Q, you
know, in the eastern suburbs andthey they sorry they.
Weren't 42 they. Were 45 grand. 45 grand.
OK. Yeah.
I just think, I think it was marketed as something a little
bit special and a bit upmarket from the from the local
(38:23):
offerings because it was a full import from America.
Yes. The only thing I'll say about
it, just having a look at a couple of snaps of them, did
anybody realise they came in a waggon variant?
They did not here, not here, no,no, no, but I'm just looking at
that was in the in the Japanese market.
Of course they did. They told us all that, but it it
(38:45):
they had the, what's the, the Mercuria pillion passenger seats
that face the wrong way, the oh,yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Seats, yeah, yeah. They had those set up for it as
well. It does look much better in a
waggon. I will say than no I agree.
(39:06):
It's one of those cars that did did, but we weren't lucky enough
to get the Wags. Yeah, yeah, this, this dumpy
looking thing that had been leftout in the sun too long.
That's basically. Guys, have you heard the
original, the original ad campaign for like the first
tourist, the Jelly Bean when it came out, No.
I probably have I, but I I distinctly remember forgetting
(39:29):
it. Oh, it was brilliant.
It's now there's a North American car.
That's that's exactly what we'vebeen waiting for.
Toys for us tourists that is. Guys, just be singing and have
you driven. I'll send it to you guys at the
end. It's it's actually quite funny,
but like, like the more. American.
Car. The first, the first like
(39:50):
generation of the tour. Well, the first, you know, two
first generation past the facelift weren't a bad looking
car. They were actually and they were
they were they were quite a revelation that changed car
design. And then this one came out,
which is the one we got. And I don't know like what
happened, like what they were onfor that for that to happen
because. You know, there weren't such a
(40:11):
sales success because, because, because Taurus actually saved
Ford, which is, which is a bit of a bit of trivia for you guys.
It's a car that saved, saved thecompany because they they were,
they were in all sorts of strife.
And Neil, it's just, it's remembered as Australians.
It's remembered terribly becauseit's that's the car we got.
And, and they weren't very reliable and they were, they
(40:33):
weren't really, they want a goodcar.
But every time I've seen, I've seen a neat one, it's an old,
it's always been an old lady that's gotten out of it, that's
driving, that's driving the car.And it's got, it's got a dash
man on it and it's got this and it's got that Lady.
It's been after. And it was clearly someone was
probably their last car or retirement car for me.
And they've got it on a good on a good on a good deal because
(40:56):
Ford couldn't sell them. They were just sitting at the at
the at the showroom. That's who who I kind of
gathered would would have boughtthat car as a last car.
It was your, it was your grandma's car and your
grandfathers car A. Retirement.
Retirement Car. It was a retirement car.
Yeah, it's the car they bought when they went for a Fairland.
But the got the dealer was like, look, Fairlands a bit big for
(41:18):
your love. Look, you know you want
something smaller and and then let's have a look at this.
Have a look at this one. This is we've got, we've only
got 3 left of these. We've had these three for the
last eight months, but. And then there's a, there's a
big factory bonus on them. You know, they're really wanting
to promote the North American cars out here.
Yeah. They they would have done an Ed
Bunting Ed Bunting special and they would have basically said,
(41:42):
you know, you, you don't wanna you don't want to bloody the a
fair land or an Ltd. You want this.
And that's how they got in the door.
And and to be fair, Ford did that to me years ago when I when
I was looking at my for my typhoon moms like, oh, this is
we had an afternoon. We walked into the Ford
dealership and I'm like, oh, I'mlooking at a GCC Turbo.
(42:02):
And the guy looked at me. He's like, mate, that's an old
man's car, You don't want that. You want a Focus ST?
I'm like, no, I want a GCC Turbo.
Well, and he's like, yeah, don'twant that.
He's like, look, come over here, test drive this, have a look at
it. And I was like, oh God, here we
go. Back when I went to get my dad's
Pajero, you know, well, look, look at the Middle East and see
what dealer stock was around. I walked into one dealer and I
(42:23):
said I want to talk to you aboutPajeros.
And he goes, oh, the Pajero or the Pajero Sport?
And I said I'll pretend I didn'thear that.
There's only one we're talking about.
He's like Fairpoint. Absolutely.
The. Proper pajero please.
The other one is not proper. So that's who I think bought.
(42:45):
I ended up with a Taurus becauselike or or would have been a a
yuppie in the 90s who wanted a premium ish car and they ended
up with a Taurus. I don't remember the last time
I've seen one. Honestly I can't recall seeing
one on the road in years and years, but I was kind of
(43:08):
thinking the people that bought them is a a salesman.
He's got his phone clipped to his belt.
He. Does, yeah.
And he's, he's on a mission. You know, he does a lot of
driving, a lot of sales. That's all he does.
He's always on the phone. He's got something really shit,
(43:30):
like like toilet paper or something.
There's something, just something really mundane.
Yeah, vacuum cleaner bags. Yeah, you know, before Dyson
came in with the with the bagless stuff, you know, it was
all about vacuum cleaner bags. That'll be big sale point.
That's what he sold. He's got his phone here clipped
(43:50):
on and deals like, yeah, come onin, I'll show you this.
And he's he's on the phone though.
He's like, no, wait, wait a minute, because he's making his
important call. He's got one of those dove grey
vinyl jackets on that. Phone busy man, he needs a car
that will get in places because he's got to do a lot of
travelling and he's got to be comfortable though and he'll
(44:12):
listen whatever the dealer says he's.
A salesperson. Not no clue.
No clue. So yeah.
We've got no, no clue style, nothing.
No. It's a statement.
Lived alone, lives alone. Yeah, in the basement.
And then and then whatever the dealer says, he just regurgitate
(44:34):
that picture. Anyone that will listen and he's
got to just reply to everyone hemeets.
What's that car? Oh, it's a tour.
He has to justify it all. Yeah, exactly what was just
whole word for word? He just regurgitates that.
Straight back American. Yeah, this is the number one
selling car in America. Sure.
Yeah, Yeah. Did You Know?
(44:55):
This in the. Ltd, more features.
Absolutely. Oh, I did test drive a Falcon.
It was nowhere near as comfortable.
You. Don't have to service it to
150,000. Yeah, I don't even have to worry
about servicing and I do so muchdriving selling my my vacuum
cleaner bags. Can I tell you I sell vacuum
cleaner bags? Have a look in my boot.
(45:19):
Yeah, I've got these ones. For Dyson's, this one's his.
For Hoovers, this one's the best.
Have a look at this one. I.
Mean there's more room in this boot than a Falcon.
Did I tell you I test drove a Falcon?
No one knew as. Good as this car.
He would have got stitched up onall the paint protection stuff
too, because no ladies want to look at this guy.
(45:41):
Yeah, when the minute the aftermarket lady pays a little
bit of attention to him, you know, David's gesturing in a
lewd manner. He.
Got minged lesbians. He got minged.
So the minute the aftermarket lady calls him some attention,
he's he buys everything. The Scotch guarding, the paint
protection, the window tin. He gets the lot.
(46:02):
Nice. Factory mats.
He looks, he looks at her and goes.
I'll need the Scotch guarding owing.
And she and she laughs so long because she has to, because she
wants the 3000 package to be sold.
One of mine, really. In some mind, she's.
Thinking yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Never. Mind, she's throwing up.
Yeah, he hasn't reached target. For the world 2 with a 10 foot
(46:24):
Taurus, yeah. Yeah, so that's what I was
picturing, Jersey. Who bought a Taurus?
I'm in the same same bat as as Scotty, to be honest, So I did
pick to the business salesman. He he just beat me to it.
But I I I don't know whether youcould get any more accurate for
a description of it. It really does.
(46:47):
To sum up to AT, no, that's. That's.
So I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to jump on board with
what he's saying. But yeah, that's that's the most
accurate buyer I think of the whole mix.
When was the last time you guys had seen one?
I haven't seen one in a very long time.
I kind of, I can't even rememberthe last time I've seen one.
So that's that's how long it's been.
(47:09):
OK, the last time we did this I actually saw one the next day,
so I'll send you all a photo tomorrow.
Yeah, that's true. They're all going to start
popping out of the woodwork now, yeah?
I dare someone to buy Taurus, put on club plates, bring it to
cars and coffee. You'd win cars and coffee.
If you found a mint one, you'd win you.
(47:29):
You don't do it. We just look at Emil's Chrysler
Neon at the last time or. That was cool, that.
Went off well. I was actually going to say that
they do really give Chrysler Neon.
Vibes they really want. Sorry they.
They really do give Chrysler neon vibes.
Oh yes, yes, of styling and design for the Yankees.
(47:51):
Like I looked at that the tourist and it's like it screams
crossing the eye. Yeah, in saying that, I can say
that because I did drive a crossing the end for my first
car, which was my brother's car.Yeah, I did, I did yeah.
That was that had a had a bit ofpaint problems and was rolling
around in in undercoat grey. Very classy styling.
(48:15):
Interesting story behind that one though, is that that was
during the rice affair. So it was completely riced out
with a spoiler and body kit and everything like that too for
good measure. But when when we end up getting
rid of the car it was I think weend up being just like one of
(48:35):
the car pickup places or whatever else it was.
But the three speed automatic was deemed more valuable than
the 5 speed manual. So I think, I think like the guy
was like, oh, you know, I'll give you 800 bucks for it
thinking it was an order. And then Kate was like, oh it's
manual and give me 500 bucks. It's just like mate, just take
(49:00):
the car. Yeah.
That's fine by Neon. Yeah, yeah, that that car had a
lot of stories. Drove up to Mount Bulla, the
rear boat ended up freezing openand we had a a rope that was
going from the rear boot hatch through to the back seat and the
passenger had to hold the boot down.
(49:20):
I'm pretty sure that same snow trip was after it was rattle
cans and my brother left a spraycan in the engine Bay and we
didn't realise till we got home that the spray can was still in
the engine Bay and somehow it didn't explode.
Fair effort. It's a fair effort.
Yeah, there were. There were lots of, lots of
stories of that, of snow troops up there and and problems.
(49:42):
Somehow the Neon got there and back.
Good car, good car, next car. Next car.
Who bought the Honda CRZ That's.12 people.
Yeah, not many people. Correct.
No, it was and letting you guys know this was a wheels car of
(50:03):
the year, you know. It was 2012.
This was a car that that was like a spiritual as A to a CRX,
which in itself wasn't a massiveseller overseas was was quite a
good seller, but it in it was a spiritual success, but it wasn't
a proper successor to to the CRXand I and I think that's what
(50:23):
hurt it in a in a lot of ways. But who bought a CRZ new?
It might have captured a couple of CRX buyers.
Yeah. I think a couple of them would
have would have found their way over into a CRZ.
Even though it wasn't quite as sporty, it was still pretty
sleek. And you know, it was the
(50:44):
littlest offering at the time byHonda.
It wasn't cheap. No, not super cheap.
The hybrid technology in it was a bit ahead of its time.
So you might have got some engineering types of going. 0
hybrid battery electric. Oh yeah, I think the skew might
have been more female than male on a CRZ.
(51:07):
Yeah, I would agree with that. Especially if you would do this.
I actually had one guy when I was doing my apprenticeship that
was he drove the CRZ to and fromsite, it was his Mrs Carr and he
was boasting about the economy that was on it.
And rightly so. They were very economical,
(51:28):
right? Yeah.
Yeah, no, I remember he would, he would just, yeah, just keep
going on about it for the economy and whatnot.
Like he was driving from, I think he was out out West
somewhere and driving to Dandenong each time and it was
just like, it's just a no brainer for me to take this
instead of the other. Yeah, but they they would have
been super economical. Absolutely.
(51:52):
Very good chassis, Yeah, very good chassis.
And they're they're really kind of drive.
But it would be a younger person, you know, it's probably
sort of a probably sort of a young professional lady, maybe
sort of 40 ish, 35 ish, got a bit of coin, you know, grew up
on a Civic maybe, or maybe ACRX and then and then went and went,
(52:13):
Oh yeah, that's sporty. And I don't have kids.
I don't have to worry about being practical.
I'm having that lives in Windsoror sort of like, you know,
Richmond, maybe Cremorne and youknow, it came in some good
colours and it's the quality that they'd known from their
(52:33):
Civic. You know, it was probably, I
don't know if it would have attracted non Honda buyers.
It might it might have mainly been loyal Honda buyers who sort
of stepped into it. You know, you know who those
buyers are now and what they're buying.
They're buying Velosters. Velocity, are they?
No, they're not that. I think they're, I think that
same demographic you've just described all in velocities
(52:56):
these days. Really.
So you're, you're saying that demographic, I would almost put
it down to like a retail manager.
I could see in the CRZ more where it's like, yeah, it's a
little bit, you know, it, it's I'm talking low level retail
manager, not talking like. You're not talking someone
that's running Myer. Important.
(53:17):
No, no, exactly like I'm. I'm talking like.
Food like you might you might a few days a week manage a a
Coogee jumper store or something.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Something like that, or a Esprit
or something like. That.
What's that like? You know what's that like, gas
man? Valley Girl, Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Something in that sort of
(53:39):
category is like a as a manager, like I could see them rolling
around, you know? And they were.
They might have been comparing it maybe to a Celica.
Yeah, but but Celica's already done by that point, so.
Was that all over and out by that point?
Well and over well and true theyhave.
Compared it to I'm, I'm just. Thinking, yeah, what?
What would? It be Astra turbo coupe or
(54:00):
something? It was either between the CR Z
or the Astra Coupe. How much were they they?
Were in the 30s. Yeah, I was going to say 38 so.
Oh, OK. So when did they come out,
David? Were they 2012?
Yeah. Yeah, 2012 to, you know,
20/16/17 they went, yeah. The last of them, yeah, they
(54:22):
upped the spec and the glass hadthe panoramic roof and things
like the reverse camera. The early cast didn't have the
reverse camera instance. They look similar.
They look similar to the Insight.
Yeah, they do like a like a three door Insight instead of A5
door Insight. Yeah, yeah.
So at the time, Honda had four hybrids on sale, well before
(54:45):
Toyota. Civic hybrid?
The CRZ hybrid. Yes, the insight.
And the Jazz? When was the jazz hybrid?
Yeah, yeah, GGD. Yeah.
Had 12 or 18 months, they brought them in but they
couldn't sell them. They're only like 1 litre per
(55:05):
hundred KS more economical than the regular.
One. I've never seen one.
They've got clear tail lights, that's the easiest way to tell
them. Wow, I've never seen one they.
Got a bit of blue in the lights. Are they though?
Yeah, yeah. So there's not many running
around to those not. Many they've got a different
grill too and I think the blue bits in the grill I think from
(55:26):
memory. Wow.
Interesting. Yeah, like you got to think what
else was around at the time. You know if, if that was 30 or
38 grand, right? This is 20/12/2013 And it would
you would people are considered a hot hatch or or like a like a
warmer. Not a hot hatch.
Like, you know, you got to thinkwhat what else there's there
(55:51):
would have been, you know, polo.I mean, I'm just trying what
would it be compared to like a Polo GTI Fiesta St, a Suzuki
Swift sport like, and they were all well, well, truly cheaper.
So I don't know like that that'sit.
It you're right. It's got to be what was its
competition? It's I don't know.
I don't know what it be me monitored against.
And I guess that's why it probably didn't sell that well.
(56:11):
Well, and the other part of the the the part of the other reason
why another reason they didn't sell well was the seat was
basically an afterthought. Useless, yeah, and and
completely useless. So they really are two seater
car. All right, so so you're saying
Anthony, a sales a sales manageror or a store manager of like a
(56:33):
of an Esprit or a or a valley girl bought that Edward saying
35 to 40 professional woman. I'm I'm sort.
Of agreeing with Anthony though,I think yeah, professional, but
yeah, they'll like I'll go with the retail, the retail outlet,
David Gripps. Yeah, I, I liked Ed's take a
(56:54):
little earlier on the the sort of ticky sort of guy that
thought, oh mate, you know, thisis a bit, this is hybrid and,
and, and sporty. You know, there was not a lot of
the Prius wasn't particularly sporty.
So yeah, it was a a bit of a different take on that.
I. Think the new Prius looks so
good I should really like the new the rest.
(57:17):
I'm thinking like a middle management office lady.
She doesn't have the money to get up to that Mercedes, so
she's got to go for that middle because she still wants that two
seater. You want that 2 seater vibe
because the two seater, just twodoor, you know, 2 seater just
(57:37):
kind of shows that you know, you're spending a bit of money.
It's sporty, it stands out. That's kind of what she's asking
is. She a bit of a power dresser,
like she might have worn a a brass buttoned power suit jacket
or. You know, definitely, yeah, but
just not at the top level yet where she sees her high, right?
(57:57):
David intimating shoulder pads, yes.
I think. Where she sees the higher ups
rock up to work in their Mercedes and things like that,
she's like, oh, not there yet, but you know, I could still get
something that looks sporty and as a 2 door and stands out.
And as you said, she's probably driven Hondas before or was
(58:19):
told, oh, drive, you know, get aHonda, They're reliable and
something. So she's kind of stuck to that
until she can work her way up the work way up the corporate
ladder and get herself that Mercedes SL she wants.
She's. A gay class.
As well. I I think to add to that, I
think she is a receptionist at Aat a Ray White.
(58:43):
Let's take reception yeah they don't earn silly money you know
it's so expensive these cars, you know got a one to one bubble
all the. And here's the reason why.
All the people I work driving Benzes and and Beamers and she's
she rocked up in here, let's say1 to one bubble.
And they're like, look, it's a bad look for the company.
(59:04):
If you if you rock up with that, get yourself a nice car, but
you've got this amount of money. And so so she's went and bought
that and because it was, it looks pretty posh.
It's a Honda. It's not.
Yeah. I think that's how she ended up
with with her. Cut above.
Cut above. I think the automatic sold a lot
more than the manual. From from yeah.
Yeah. So, but yeah, again.
(59:26):
One Matthew, What's the next one?
Next one is who bought a Holden Calibra.
Oh, pretty. Pretty much the same as what
we've just described. First guy.
Yeah, the first guy Calibra, Calibra that more guys car or
(59:46):
girls car, I would maybe say more guys coming.
I was thinking guy. Yeah, because it had a Holden
badge. Yeah, Holden badge.
It was a. Euro so.
And. Yep, if you had a bit of
European heritage about you, it was like buying a bit of a
Eurosports car but had a Holden badge so it was what was called.
(01:00:07):
Now, so what's happened is dad'sdad's senior graduate university
and he's like, he's like, I wanna buy your car, wanna buy
your Holden. And he's he that's a storage
Holden man. He's he's got his VL Calais.
Gotta be, gotta be a yeah Aussieman.
Well, even it's not an Aussie branded.
He's got his VL Calais, you know, really original 6, just
the 6th order because he's a, you know, he's a he's, he's a
(01:00:28):
frugal man. He didn't want the V8.
So and he says we're gonna, we're gonna as a as a gift for
finishing university, for finishing your arts degree,
because that you know, that's, that's gonna get you nowhere.
Went and bought him to the wholeinitials that said, here you go
pick your colour. It's gonna be red or red because
they were all bloody red. Yeah, they were red or white,
weren't they? Yeah.
And. Yeah, I remember years and years
(01:00:48):
ago at Target I saw a white one.Yeah.
And he's like, I'm going to buy you a, you're going to have a
Holden and he's like sporty coupe calibra, you know,
finishing uni for me, that's a uni gift car.
You got that for finishing uni? So.
So his old man bought a friend for finishing uni.
And then did he keep it long or did or did he did he get rid of
(01:01:09):
it well? He had to get rid of it soon
after because he got his partnerknocked up and then now they've
got. What did they buy an an
adventurer? No, Well, it's see, that's too
long. That's too long.
After that, I think, I think he would have bought a.
He would have tried to do the the whole family thing and
bought a. Vectra.
Maybe they got a Vectra hatch? 80 series.
(01:01:31):
Vector waggon. Vector Waggon.
Waggon yeah, 'cause it sort of looked a bit like the Calibra in
the mirrors. It still had a a a hint of
Calibra about it. Well it's it's Calibra based I
think. Yeah, yeah.
Oh, gotta get the waggon. But still European, still got a
lot of features. All the features so that's
that's who in my eyes bought your hot your Calibra uni
(01:01:52):
students as a gift I. Can I can point out where there
is one I don't know? Oh, there is one.
Yeah, so, so I haven't seen, I haven't seen one in a very long
time. All the ones I've been seeing
was so clapped out that were just that were just had it.
I don't know how. The last 1 I actually probably
saw was when I was paying for mymy my club permit at at the club
(01:02:14):
and the guy rocks up and he was,he wanted to get his car put on
to a club plate and it was a black hole in Calibra.
And he's like, do I put Opal in the in the thing or do I put a
hold and the guy's like it's registered as a hold and put on.
He's like, but it's actually an Opal.
He's like, you put it as any. He was just sending the.
Argument with the guy. I'm like, I just want to pay for
this and go like, like you're just sending the argument with
the guy at the counter. You don't argue with what
(01:02:34):
Vicroads have you just you just go along and yeah.
So yeah. The last ones were actually
turbo 4 wheel drive I think too with.
Turbo 4 wheel drive, Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
You've got AV 6 and you could have got that.
That's right. Yeah, Yeah, yeah.
That would have hassle. These are all these are all real
sort of quirky cars. I mean, I'm I'm on board with
the Honda more than the other two as cars, but.
(01:02:55):
Can I do the next car? Sure.
Absolutely. A AR spider.
Oh, like one of the 90s ones or early 2000s?
Yeah, 90 slash early 2000s. That's a real estate agents car.
Well, that's that's what it was.No, because they can't fit
their. Clients in the backseat.
(01:03:16):
Yeah, and they still need their clients.
That's true. Alpha Spider, I reckon.
I mean, they had beautiful Chrome in inlet manifolds on
them up the bonnet and they kindof would, the pedals were a
little offset, but I, I drove a couple when I knew and they, you
know, they, they're fun. I reckon you would be the buyer.
(01:03:40):
5050 split there. I reckon you would have got, you
would have got a bit of both, male, female in that car, you
know, the slick back, sort of like little Italian boy would
have liked it. Yeah.
And you know, Carla, the 35 yearold who'd stepped out of a base
(01:04:01):
model LS Integra in the early 90s, Carla thought that it was,
yeah, pretty special. Because they were.
European sports, they looked. Pretty exotic, yeah?
I actually really like them. I've always liked them there.
They've been there've been a carthat I've always had or you
know, if I would, if I was crazyand had an endless amounts of
money and you know, I'd do it because like I think they're a
(01:04:22):
cool looking car, but I I, yeah,I wouldn't do one.
Like I, I prefer the GTV at the end of the the the hard top
version of it, but the spider inin yeah, I don't know.
She don't mind the idea of Carlabecause because you know, she
wants to make her, her Italian parents proud, you know, and and
something you can park on Lygon.Street and be and be, you know.
(01:04:42):
Yeah. Lygon St.
And what does Carla do? She runs in a she with her
friend. She runs an events company.
They do, they do sort of marketing launches and events
around town and she's got a teamof people, you know,
photographers and set designs and stuff that she sort of calls
(01:05:03):
upon to pull these events together.
But she's the Co director of thecompany.
Yeah. And she seats, she was sold on
the red seats and they were veryred seats in those.
Well, they were, yeah. I'm going to go with a little
bit of a different thought and I'm gonna go with midlife
(01:05:26):
crisis, divorced dad who has balding.
With some. Chunk going for him and he's
trying to be younger than what he is.
Yeah, yeah, he's, his hair is receding and he has a slight
gut. Yeah.
(01:05:47):
And he would. And.
And. You you could still, you know,
get some grease off the off the top of the hair as well.
Yeah, he is a shine going to it.He would look daggy in a in a
Falcon or a Commodore. And he thought, no, this is
going to improve my chance. I'm going to get, I'm going to,
I'm going to be more attractive in this Italian sports car.
(01:06:07):
Yeah, like I could even see him wearing like that, sort of bit
of a tanned, tanned suit sort ofsetup.
Maybe I could? Not.
And he might go so far as to carry a European carry all.
Yeah, you look, I I was actuallythinking that he was going to be
wearing like the tan shorts as well, like the the the blazer
(01:06:29):
over the top, but like the tan shorts and what?
Does he do for work? What does he do for work?
Turbo Terry? This guy.
That's the real kicker. What would he do for work?
Maybe it's something really mundane and this is just a
desperate cry for help, for attention.
Is he? Yeah.
I, I I. Think it's just going to be just
(01:06:50):
going to be a punch in the numbers. 9 to 5 office.
Yeah, yeah, I reckon. It's a desk.
It's just a desk job. He's just behind a computer.
Yeah. But he doesn't know what he
does. He just rocks up there.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, all these. Colleagues are like, oh, he
thinks he's so European with that car.
He thinks he's so special with that blood dam he.
Drives it like this too. He's he's heads up, he's always
(01:07:12):
he's looking down on everyone else while he's driving it too.
He just looks down. He's.
Definitely * gazing and he's gotand he put an Italian, you know
the, the, the Italian sticker like you know when you go to to
Europe. Yeah, yeah, he's got that on
the. Back he's got the Italian.
The Italian. One on on the and he's got an
Alfa key ring and he loves putting the keys on the table so
everyone can see the key ring sothey know what he drives.
(01:07:33):
Absolutely. That's got to.
Be in the bowl, hoping. Yeah.
Hoping, praying, wishing. Can I can?
I just send a shout out. Can I just send a shout out to
long term friend of the show, MrMichael Green who has a silver
Alpha GTV Got a spider which is Immaculate and a gorgeous thing.
(01:07:58):
I think it's one of Pin and Farina's designs that age
particularly well. I think I still they still look
good, yes. I would, I think the GTV looked
better than the spider actually.I don't think Alpha have made
anything. Yeah, GCP is better, yeah.
GTP is better, but I don't thinkAlpha has made anything better
looking sense. It's a big call, but that's my
(01:08:18):
that's that was the last good car.
Good. Well, this, this extreme
profiling, Michael, is not aimedto be derogatory towards you in
any way. For meeting purposes.
Only meeting. Purposes only.
What's the guy's name? This clerical worker who thinks
he's an Adonis, what's his name?It would be an Adonis.
(01:08:39):
I know his name is Paul, but he likes sometimes when he's out
with girls to pronounce it. Paolo.
Yeah, Paolo. Or or or a Giovanni.
Yeah, he's really John, but he'll introduce himself as
Giovanni to the to the to the suitors.
Yeah. Yes.
Talks about going to Italy all the time, but he's never been.
(01:09:00):
Never. Actually been.
Oh, Italy. Italy's great in the summer.
Yeah. Oh, you must get to Tuscany.
And he he loves going to Lygon Street because he feels so
Italian on a hot night driving the the Spider.
Absolutely, yeah. Really.
(01:09:21):
It's all pasta fucking for the kilometre.
Yeah, it's all the same, you know.
Yeah. But did he taste the difference?
Exotic And he likes ordering coffee like he'll, he was, he
was an early adopter of orderinga coffee that was not just a
cappuccino. Like, you know, I'll have a a
piccolo or a macchiato. So you know, something something
(01:09:43):
before anyone else ordered it inthe early 2000s.
They didn't know what it was, but he was ordering it there
because he saw it in a magazine once and thought it sounded.
Like so you want a small coffee?People looking and I want like
if he tried it on at the Westfield Plaza, they would look
at him strangely. But in life they they bring him
his order. They know, they know they.
(01:10:05):
Know I was. Going to say his ideal woman
would be would be more because she has dreams of going to Capri
Capri. I think he actually still lives
with his mum. He has a car.
He definitely has a car bra on the front of it too.
(01:10:31):
This is my favourite. Edwin, is this your favourite
segment like this? Yeah, I love it.
I love it. I spend my life profiling
people. That's great all.
Right. We're going to need the second
part of that question. When was the last time you saw
it? I haven't seen a convertible one
of these in a very long time. But I've you still do see the
(01:10:51):
GTV's here and there. I've probably seen the GTV's but
a lot more overall, but I honestly can't remember the last
time I've seen a spider. No, I can't remember the last
time I saw one either. Couldn't tell you.
Go on. I was at a show or a month or so
ago and there were a few there because it was an alpha show.
Speak. That'll do it.
(01:11:12):
Yeah. Yeah, that's right.
How? Most of them made it.
No, do you the the the takeaway food thing was powered by a
Honda generator. I took a photo of that as well.
At least the food would have been the right temperature,
unlike the Cars A. Little bit hot, all right?
(01:11:35):
What's next quiz? Are we quiz?
Yeah, we'll get into the quiz. I've got a few more on on my
list, but. We'll save them for another
episode. Yeah, we got to save them.
We'll keep it. We don't want to run out, They
don't want to run out. They're great.
I think he likes it too much. I.
Think this on this guy. I'll need to run for my siestas
(01:11:58):
tune, so yeah, go go to the nexttopic, go to the quiz.
Yeah, quiz it is. So we did need to.
Enter all this stuff in right into into chat AI yeah that
we've made it'll. Come up with a picture of him.
Yeah, so we can see. Someone is doing burnouts in the
car park yard. I'm hoping that they don't run
(01:12:20):
into my car because I know my luck.
Do you need to go and check I? Want to go check I'll be back in
a? Laser.
Strike, yeah. We'll just talk amongst
ourselves so you can edit this bit out.
He's a. Walk in the Black Forest by.
Now next car Ford Laser 2 Yes. That's it in black.
(01:12:43):
In black. Manual black.
Who would buy it? Go.
Kirby, someone that's like, obsessed.
Scarily obsessed, hears any noises in the car and he's like
got to fix it and stuff and. Oh, exactly that.
It's got a dust inside the car and things just.
(01:13:04):
It's got met on, met on, met on.Met radio show too, I think, and
they're. Also and.
He's got his, he's got his own podcast for sure.
And they're. A bit delusional, they sort of
think it's like a Ferrari Daytona or something, but really
it's a it's just a Blazer with fog lights.
But it starts. Every time you turn the key,
which a Ferrari Daytona may not necessarily.
(01:13:25):
True. But that's why, you know, it's
got the mats on the mats and it's got the paint, ceramic and
all the stuff on it. But really it's like deck chairs
on the Titanic. It's just a laser that's on
what's on mats. It's going to be great when he
chooses to really listen throughthis.
Yeah, yeah. And no one else quite
understands what the hell he's on about with this thing.
I bet he's probably got a typhoon too or something.
(01:13:47):
Oh yeah, definitely. And and there may be a laser
just for good measure. Yeah, he.
Just pulls out the typhoon so hemakes makes him feel big again.
Yeah, feels a bit masked when hewants to, but he likes a little
hatch that's good for shopping. Little, little fierce, you know,
maybe the shop bags could be green as well.
(01:14:09):
And we're. Back.
Yeah, we're back. Sorry guys, There was you could
never guess what cars, but therewas two cars having having some
fun out there. One of the least most, you know,
burnout cars you'd expect. A Ford Ka No.
Close though. AR Spider.
No, it was a Toyota Life and a Toyota Echo.
(01:14:30):
They were. They were doing burnouts.
Nice. Echo has to be a rental.
Having a turf war, what's going on?
Hopefully you've chewed them away.
Moving on, I'm. Good picturing.
Just go shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot up the front.
(01:14:51):
So David Prince has currently written the quiz for us tonight.
I wasn't able to. Quiz That means Matt's going to
win. Let's just call it now.
David Prince. Sceptic.
Just just get to it before if we.
Had reality now can I just checkmy buzzer?
Ed. I didn't hear it, sorry.
Say dude, try again. No.
I didn't get that a little louder.
Like you said, it's not like yousaid, Matt.
(01:15:12):
Yeah, came through with Matt. I'm telling you, this thing's
rigged and called shenanigans, you dirty boys.
Where's Alan? Where's Alan when I need him for
support? OK, here we go.
That's where he is, so he's in downs.
Where is he? Townsville.
Townsville. They're doing.
There work for parts and stuff. You drive up in a truck, they.
(01:15:33):
Flopped. They flopped this time.
So oh. Nice.
OK, there you go. We ready to go, we all.
Ready to go? Mate, you've got your big hand.
Matthew all ready to go mate. Question 1.
Lexus of this week announced theLM500H ultra luxury people
mover. It's priced at a barmy $220,950.
(01:15:56):
How many seats does it have? Ed.
Ed 8. 8. Incorrect.
Matthew, I'm I think you're gonna have captain's chairs at
that price. I'm gonna say 6.
Incorrect. OK.
Cool, Scott. Oh, I'm gonna.
Go 7. That'd be incorrect to about
(01:16:18):
Jerry I. Think I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go
10. That would be incorrect as well.
It actually has four seats. What?
So it's 55. $1000 a seat, yes. That's.
That's its selling point, so Google it went later.
LM500H ultra luxury. Is that including the front two
(01:16:41):
seats like the drivers and the and?
The front two seats, so the rearis just two like first class.
I've I've just done a Google it has a 48 inch ultra wide display
in the back of the car. There you go.
That's why there are no extra seats.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Question. 2 is pretty pretty mundane, but you've got to get a
(01:17:04):
mundane one or two in. The Volkswagen have just
released the third generation Tiguan mid size SUV.
How many engine options are there?
Ed. Ed.
Bree. Correct.
Listen. Bonus question.
Yep. In kilowatts, what are the three
designations? I don't know.
(01:17:27):
Matthew. Matthew.
So do you want me to name all three of them?
Well. A point for each.
I'm going to say 105, a 174 and for the R line or R 20, no 225.
(01:17:48):
Incorrect. None of them are right, sorry.
Yeah, that's fair. And.
Yep. I'll go for the bonus.
I'll go gonna go a little bit more than that.
That 105 I'll round up to 110. Yep, one point. 01 point, OK.
Hey, 274, I'm gonna say 140 and then 190.
(01:18:17):
Incorrect and incorrect take. Take the 1:00.
Absolutely you will. Scotty all.
Right. I'm going to say 145 and the
other one's going to be a one 186.
(01:18:40):
Incorrect, sadly. It's a 110A-150 and A195
kilowatt. Oh yeah, I've been a 195.
It's a bit of a shame, yeah. That's disappointing.
Yep, talking about Power Question 3, this is Mercedes
have just released a new performance flagship sedan
called the Mercedes Amge 53 Hybrid Auto Plus.
(01:19:07):
What is the combined output of its 3 litre turbocharged 6 with
its 120 kilowatt electric motor nearest to get to the point?
Power output. In kilowatts, yes.
Ed. Ed. 500 and.
Two. I bet 2.
Matthew. It doesn't matter because you'll
(01:19:30):
get a turn. Go for a mat.
I'm going to say 734. Scotty, sorry, that's.
Not, I was going to say like 468I'm.
Going to say 520. OK, Scotty's right, 450
(01:19:52):
kilowatts. OK, there you go, Scotty.
Hold on. 71034 was a little optimistic man.
I realised as soon as I said youdidn't say 6363 is the big dog,
that's he said the 55 and I was like, ah, OK, I've.
Yeah, 53. If Brabus got their hands on it,
then maybe. That's right.
Take it to OK, another another bonus question for it.
(01:20:16):
Now what? Was the answer how many?
How many kilowatts? Was it 4?
150. Who got it right?
It's only got 468. OK.
That's rookie. That's rookie numbers.
That's that's that's. I think it's a bit light on
personally. That probably explains the
price. So do you want to go closest to
for the price? Matthew Yeah, 280-6286.
(01:20:41):
K. Yep.
I would just go 200. 200 and I got.
The lower side. Ed 302. 302, Yeah, yeah.
So that's a 5 litre Falcon engine to you.
Thank you very much the. Windsor. 3O2 mate.
(01:21:01):
I'm going to say 250. 250 all good guesses, Anthony.
You're $100 off. It's 189 dollars, 900 dollars,
$199,900. It's a bargain.
Bargain. I'll give you guys a score.
(01:21:24):
Check. It is only the 53.
I'll negotiate on the 302, you know.
I'll give you guys a score check.
Edward one, Scotty 1, Anthony 2 myself.
Get the score or Matthew. Matthew's good.
Don't worry, he'll come back, Don't worry.
He always does question 4A. Romeo has gone back to their
roots for the name of the new baby SUV that's going to be
(01:21:49):
released locally in the third quarter of this year.
It fits just under the Tanale, which is under the still view.
I call that the toenail. I know a lot of people do.
So this is a smaller than the Tanale and it what's it going to
be called? Is it?
(01:22:10):
Is it a name that they've had before?
I would take that from the the entrance direction.
I think it's the fingernail. The fingernail.
'Cause they're smaller, that's right.
That's. Right.
Incorrect. Not correct.
Not correct. No.
(01:22:30):
Not surprisingly, no. Oh.
Jeez. I'm Beno.
I wish I was, that'd be awesome. No increase Maddie and Scotty.
I wouldn't be able to guess. I don't know.
Matthew the Piccola Corsa. I don't know like.
Piccolo No, no, no good. Scotty not guessing.
(01:22:54):
No, no. The junior.
Junior. Yeah, cool.
I say that it's close enough to the Bambino.
Junior. Coming.
Is that full electric or a hybrid?
OK. There you go, Question 5.
Which model did Holden debut? The Calais nameplate that they
(01:23:17):
lasted. Matthew.
It it was first. Thank you, Toby, for recognising
that. Yes.
Do you feel? Just answer the damn question.
I'm really going to string this out a little bit now, Matt, just
revel in the glory. The Calais nameplate I'll
probably get it wrong, I think came out in the VL.
(01:23:42):
Ink, Matthew. Matthew.
That'll be the VK. That would be correct.
Oh, they did it earlier. VK 1984 Bonus question, what was
the name of the top spec Toyota Lexan version of the Commodore?
Oh. Ed they did a Lexan Newport.
(01:24:04):
Correct. Version.
Bonus bonus question, why was itcalled the Newport?
Ed. Ed I.
Don't know, I'll take a stab. He was called a Newport after
(01:24:25):
the suburb Newport Overseas because it's an exclusive
suburb. .5 You'll get .5 for that.
OK. Over the other side of What did
you mean Newport near Williamstown?
I mean an exclusive suburb called Newport, which could be
Ivan. If it could, Well, now, yeah,
(01:24:48):
given the prices now. That's right, yeah.
It's. Fine.
PBD please No. OK, No one else got any idea?
No, no. Newport, RI was where Australia
won the Americas Cup. OK, Yeah.
It's a designer of the winged keel that.
OK, exclusive in Lexan, I said it was exclusive.
(01:25:10):
Yeah, I know, but that's not notthe reason.
It was poor Newport. Do I still get half a point?
Yeah, I think you got half. OK oh that's I thought you
rescinded my half. So high, high maintenance.
In my goodness, this is this is outrageous.
Score check. Please Maddie, score check.
Scotty myself would want a piece, Anthony currently second
(01:25:31):
on two and Edward currently leading on 2.5.
That .5 got him just just a 2. Point. 5.
It could be a Discovery diesel, I could be a Vectra.
You could be a Vectra. Yeah, I could be a Subaru
Liberty heritage. Hold that thought.
Hold that thought. OK, actually 6 Most cars have a
warning time to alert the driverto various conditions, like
(01:25:55):
leaving a door open, a receipt built, not being fastened.
Well, the headlight's theft enough, the car's turned off.
What's significant about the chime in a Honda?
Matthew. Matthew got in first.
It is Morse code for for H. Correct.
Did you know that too? Hang.
On Say that again. It's Morse code.
It's like it is like when you leave the key and it it does
(01:26:19):
that charm and it's actually Morse code for.
HI, never knew that neither. Did I chill some?
There you go, Matthew. You're a guru, that's what you
want. For H.
Yeah, that's a. Well I've had unders that go do.
Do do. That's not Morse code.
That's the headlight reminder itthat's not the Morse code.
(01:26:41):
It's it's the key when you leaveit in the key in the.
Ignition the key. It's 4 beeps.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And.
Why is it Morse code for H? Because it's Honda.
I mean, is anyone on a submarinesort of picking up that all
(01:27:02):
these keys have been left somewhere?
Or what's going on? Why are they doing that?
I'm pretty sure in Hyundai in intheir Kona they don't have the H
badge for for the for Hyundai they've got 4 dots and that's
Morse code as well for for H forfor.
Who's? Using all this Morse code.
Morse code. No one since about the 40s I
think. Basically, question signals.
(01:27:27):
What question? It's 1994 and you're needing to
choose the colour of your new car.
You've got a new company car. Amongst others you can choose
from Sarajevo white, Alaska blue.
Ed. Ed.
It's BMW. No, it's not interesting.
I'll continue with my colour. OK, sorry.
Continue. Monarch Blue and Stardust
(01:27:50):
silver. Now these these aren't all the
colours you could get it in. You said curbs are red before.
I did. That's BMW.
Well, it's also another mate too.
Holden. You couldn't get Sarajevo white
or an Alaska blue BMW. I think I think it might be
Holden me. Yeah, Matthew, I was going to
(01:28:10):
say it'd, you'd be looking at a Commodore.
That would be incorrect, I said.Hang on, is it Holden there,
David? It's not a Holden, no.
Oh, because Stardust Silver, I think that was on Astros.
I think they pinched the name, Ithink bit of movement around,
but I thought this, this, yeah, this collection of five.
(01:28:32):
I could give you another 3 or 4 colours that they came in but
that would be please. Oh, they'll give it away.
OK, give. It away, yeah.
I like this game, this colour game.
This is a good one give. It away.
Turbo Terry Scott, come on, comeon.
Sarajevo rings a bell. No 1990.
(01:28:52):
Can you? Is it Opal?
Is it Opal? No, it's not a.
In the US like. AI know, I know what it is.
It's OK. Why?
Why should I give you a hint that no one else has got?
Yeah, that's question shenanigan.
Look. I, I, I was, I was throwing it
(01:29:12):
out there to try and be inclusive for everybody being in
the same boat. Thank you.
Don't, don't go your police talkwith me.
There's three people are out. You're out.
You're out, Terry. You're.
Out. No one didn't.
The third person was out. Fuck.
It go Mitsubishi. Correct.
(01:29:35):
They're all colours available onthe Mitsubishi Magna along with
as as we have that's. Yeah, see, that would have given
it away. What about?
What about Cascade Blue? Sorry, Calapso calapso calapso
blue. Blue cascade Blue.
Scottie Scotty won myself two at2.5, currently in lead, Anthony
(01:29:57):
on three. Whoa, look at that.
OK, question eight. This year, 2025 as we all know,
marks the 40th anniversary of the Mitsubishi Magna.
What other important anniversarydoes it mark for Mitsubishi in
Australia? Matthew.
Matthew. Is it 50 years in Australia?
(01:30:19):
No, it's the 45th anniversary ofsomething.
OK. Significant that they're going
to be celebrating it. It's like it's going to be some
like maybe Rally Championship orsomething like that.
Good guess. I like what you like your
thinking in. OK, OK.
No. No, OK.
(01:30:40):
Got nothing want. To go Scotty.
No, got nothing. OK, it also makes 45 years.
Mitsubishi Motors acquired Chrysler Australia.
OK, Yeah. Sigmas were priceless to begin
with. They.
Were, yeah. Became Mitsubishi in 1980.
(01:31:03):
OK. Chrysler.
Sure. Chrysler sure.
Question 9. What does WRX stand for?
Matthew, look at that. World Rally Experimental.
Correct. Yes, I thought that you thought
you might get that. So for the last question, it's
anybody's game except Scotty. Yay, I got faith in the Scotty
(01:31:27):
still. Ed can win, Anthony can win and
myself could possibly win. So Anthony and I are tied and Ed
could take the chocolates if youcould jump both of us.
Do you feel like I'm going to try and?
Screw you all and get this one right.
Go Scotty in 1995. In autumn of 1995, Four Wheeler
magazine compared 4/4 wheel drives that were on sale in
(01:31:48):
Australia. They said this about one of
them. The turbocharged an intercooled
2.8 litre diesel is incredibly tractable.
Ed. Matthew.
Anthony, that was me. That was me.
Yeah, it. Was Yeah, I heard you.
You got me first. Ishi Pajero.
Correct. I knew it was.
Already going to be the Pajero as soon as you started on that
(01:32:10):
one there. And I'm like, is it going to be
what is the car? What?
Like I just wanted more of the question.
I knew what it was. Wow, what?
Is that was very good. Score check Scotty won Anthony
myself on three and tonight's winner by A Bee's Wizard is
(01:32:31):
Edward Bunting on 3.5. Yay 2.8 Yay.
Well done. Never late in the 2.8 early oh,
you will be late in that engine it's very quick it's.
Very slow, yeah. I, I was considering buying a, a
short wheelbase Pajero actually for a long time after I bought
(01:32:53):
the crown. So I'm like, that's good.
Mom used to have a a Pajero as the family car.
Dad had the crown. So I was like screw it, I got a
short wheelbase progera for goodmeasure at a tempo.
DI think we went, we went to look at one there, it wasn't
very. Yeah, that, that was tempting.
That one too. That was really considering.
(01:33:13):
Thanks for the one the quiz, David Prince.
It was a good quiz. Good quiz.
Yeah, we like that. Very good quick.
I like the paint colours. Yeah.
Can we have that? Can we bring back the paint?
Colours I'm a little bit. We can have some green and rapid
and citric acid. And.
(01:33:34):
All these cool cool, cool colourdams.
Commodore. Hold Commodore.
I have the coolest. It's the coolest book that I
bought for a dollar from A1 Turner Trash and Treasure years
and years ago. And it's a dualist pink guide
from like the 50s, basically going through to about 2000.
So all it's got the paint codes for every manufacturer and and
(01:33:58):
the names of the colours. So Oh my goodness, I can't wait
for the X squeeze. It's going to be great.
Bring that out. Tiger Mica and that's Commodore.
That's a. Commodore colour correct
hothouse. Comedy.
That's Torana, isn't it? It's that's, that's it's
Commodore. The VY isn't it?
Vy Yep, correct. Or her screen might.
(01:34:20):
Yep. There's limelight.
What's Limelight? Limelight don't know charger.
Charger. There we go.
I know someone that's got a limelight charger he chat.
Hey Charger. I went for the same person.
What a great ad campaign. Hey charger like like it's
still, it's still tested, it's still the test of time.
Like people when you when you talk about charges, they still
(01:34:42):
think hey charger like, well, then we're going to do an
episode about like the best car campaigns that have been done.
We haven't we've touched on ads,we haven't done the best
campaigns. And I think I think hey charge
probably have to have to be top three.
It was. It was outstanding.
Yeah. Anyway, I think that's AI.
Think that's a podcast, gents? Thank you.
Thanks all. Any plugs?
(01:35:04):
Scotty Doe's golf tip of the week.
Yeah, just before the golf tip of the week.
You're talking about Morse codesbefore.
Yeah. Alfa Romeo have won two with
their car. It goes, It goes.
Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep.
Yes, there is. Oh, we got it.
(01:35:25):
You got it. Oh, that's funny, that's for
sure. Golf tip of the week is
seriously do some warm ups and stretches because I went out on
Sunday and far out, it took me abit to get into the swing.
(01:35:46):
It was just like a rubber band that was about to snap.
It took a bit to get to get warmed up.
Need to oil those joints. So yeah, put some, you know.
Just. WD40 in your joints and you
should be, you should be fine then.
But you just before you know, remember you're not, you're not
(01:36:08):
18 anymore, so you can't just get out there and start running
or whatever it might be. Exercise.
You need to warm up your joints first.
So stretch, stretch, and stretchsome more.
Nice. Can't.
Can't understand that when I felt I bowled my first ball of
the cricket season for last season I didn't stretch a warm
up and I thought I threw my arm out of my socket yeah yeah.
(01:36:32):
So I was very sore than than forthe next week.
But yeah warm up. It just give a bit of a stretch,
even if it's a little bit, you know all about that Scotty
that's we're getting old these days, gentlemen.
So we got to no. I wouldn't.
Dry me a river. Got to get loose.
Mr Toby Terry, any plugs with you?
(01:36:52):
Look, no plugs, but I want to actually just do a follow on
question for the quiz talking about pajeros and there's going
to be a bonus questionnaire, this one just for shits and gigs
talking about pajeros. There was a variance that was
specifically ran as part of a rally raid sort of situation.
(01:37:18):
Two part question is 1 what was the requirement for it to
qualify and Part 2 what was the event?
Matthew, I want to say they needed to sell a certain amount
of cars to make them, to homologate them.
Correct. So what what is?
What is the number of vehicles that was required?
(01:37:38):
I'd probably say 2000 and I was going to say it's for the Paris,
Paris to Dakar, Dakar. Yeah, it was.
Thought it was Dakar. Yeah.
So Dakar is right, but the number is wrong?
Yeah. ON500500 Dakar, Yes.
Yeah. 400. 500 all right, that'swas 500.
(01:37:58):
Keep going, keep going one. 1000.
So the the total, total actual amount that was produced was
2500, but that was again still that sort of requirement sides
of things. But yeah, again, I've always
considered the Evo Pajero as a really funky looking little car.
(01:38:20):
They're a cool thing, there's. A handful of them that are still
fighting around at the moment they're for for sale and they're
still ridiculous, but they are again Evo running gear behind
Pajero with Recaro so. So.
Cool. You need an engine to put in it,
Yeah. You think you'd just throw the.
You'd think you'd just throw theEVO engine in it and boost it
(01:38:41):
up. Yeah, well, I mean, it's still a
3.56 out of it, but they're justso give me like Malou boisterous
vibes. Yeah, I can see that.
Yeah, they are a very, very, very cool car and I think.
There's 2 for sale at the momenton car sales, one with 137,000
(01:39:03):
KS 55 and the other one which has 135 for 64.
Yeah, I wouldn't really expensive for Pajero, but that
again you're paying for rarity at that point.
And. David, Prince Edward Bunting,
anything you guys would like to plug before we finish?
Yeah, I've got some cars for sale.
So I sold the Swift automatic. Yep.
(01:39:25):
So coming up will be Triton dualcab with the Pajero Motor 3.2
manual. Coming up will be Mercedes E350
Sedan Elegance and coming up will be the Hyundai Getz with a
new clutch. What are we after for the gets
Edward? Our Gonna Getz is gonna be like
5/9/90. OK, Yeah.
(01:39:47):
What if they mention this podcast?
6. 990. 5/9/80. Yeah, oh, there you go.
You get 10 bucks off so make sure you mention this podcast.
I'll save yourself a whole $10. I'll have to see what the
repairs cost first before I commit to a price, but I'm I'm
thinking I think it'll be somewhere around 5/9/90.
(01:40:08):
Yeah, that's bad. That'll be day, won't it?
Oh hi, I'm ringing about the carthat was on the past.
Yeah, I'll, I'll eat my hat if that ever happens.
