(00:05):
There's a professional radio. That's front wheel drive.
Have you got anyone you want to thank?
Just myself. And now I do the after hours,
gentlemen. What would you go for?
They see us in there OK, And because it's not a super duck,

(00:30):
it's not automatic. Perfection comes in the form of
2 letters A&U. Long away of my Ltd.
Welcome to Car Talk. It's true that I'm here in 98.9
NW FM. It's me, Maddie J in the studio
with Mr Alamdeep Singh. Going on, fellas?
Mr Edward Bunting, hello all, and Mr Scotty Do Johnson, How

(00:54):
are you fellas? Hey all doing good.
Thank you. Very good.
Good to see you guys. What's been happening?
Let's get some car updates. Edward Bunting updates with you.
Hello I have two cars in stock akey Rio 2017 and a still the
Ford Focus the Ford Focus developed a slight little
coolant leak, which turned out to be the thermostat housing.

(01:15):
OK that's an easy fix yeah. So I put that in today and just
picked it up It's it's driving better and better so coolant
sorted tick what else? 380 SEL having the transmission
pulled out this week. The box does need to come out to
have something done to it. We think it's a band inside that
snapped or something. So he said it'll be on the road
by the end of this week. But I believe that when I see

(01:36):
it, so I am keen to drive that car.
I did purchase with Mr. David Prince, a Honda CRV 1st Gen 2001
manual Sport. So this is Julia Bag's ABS,
alloy wheels, solid rear wheel cover and the factory sunroof.
It's like, it's like a, it's like that golden goldy metallic

(01:58):
colour. Yeah, cool colour.
That's the hero colour, Yeah, itwas a bit of a hero colour then.
Anyway, we got that and I sort of was like, oh, I don't think
we need this, David. Dave was like, no, we need to
save it anyway. So we did.
The catch with this car, despitehaving a beautiful service
history and everything like that, is the mileage.
It is insanely at 556,000 kilometres, no mean feat.

(02:25):
I mean, and I said I hadn't seenthis car, right.
So I we picked it up Friday lunchtime and I drove it home
that night and I was like, this thing's unbelievable.
It's smooth, revvy, quiet, perfect clutch, perfect gearbox,
air con, cold, everything works. The only thing that doesn't work
is the digital clock in the dash.
The screen's gone. The rest of the car works.

(02:46):
And I was like, if you drove this car and looked at this car,
you would think it had done 100.It's like it's that clean.
The clock just doesn't make sense at 5:56.
But the service books back it uplike it's not, it's not like
it's had another cluster in it or something.
That is it. So yeah, remarkable car.
And goes to show that that Japanese cars of that era, just

(03:07):
how good they are and how they're well looked after, they,
they really do last if you look up to anything they like.
Well, it's not any especially, especially the Japanese kinds of
that era like that. Yeah, that era, it's a good era.
So we've got that one going on that's going for Roadie.
Look at tomorrow. We'll see what that needs.
What else can I tell you? I mean, so what's the plan with

(03:27):
that? Is that a flip or is that a club
plate or is that a oh, look, I don't think either of us need to
keep it. A friend of mine might be
interested. He I had that white CRV exactly
the same a few years back. And I, I sold that to a guy in
the Honda club and he was Devo because the car really wanted
that. And I'm like, well, you didn't
buy it. You gotta say, Ed, I really want
that car and then I'll show it to you.

(03:48):
You know, it's like, I'm not a mind reader.
So this one I rang him and said, now I've got another CRV.
It's really clean. It's got books da, da, da,
because I have any cases done. I'm like, let's not, let's not
focus on that. Let's talk about, I said let's
talk about condition, not Kay's.And I said I'll show it to you
and I'm going to cover up the Speedo.

(04:09):
I want you to judge it based on its condition and then we'll
talk. I said, Needless to say, it will
be cheaper than the other one I had because that had only done
120. So that was a super low model.
I've been driving around in the Merc 300 coupe that's running
very nicely. The only thing, as we said
another time, Matthew, is that there's fuel gauges jammed on

(04:32):
that, you know, like, yeah, theythey get a bit, they get a bit
gunky and stuff. It's in my garage currently and
I need to allocate a little bit of time just to pull out that
float and clean it and have a look.
That sounds like it might be a weekend.
Edward Job. Yeah.
Is that it? So that's that.
So with the back of like they'requite a big socket.

(04:53):
Yeah. In when you when you pull out.
Oh, I hear. Yes.
So I didn't have one that size. So I kind of made it work with a
like a monkey wrench kind of thing or yeah.
And I kind of turned it in and then, yeah, came out.
Yeah, I'll, I'll have a play with that on the weekend.
But yeah, that's what that car needs.
Other than that running very silky smooth.
Lovely as as it should. Like that is that is a lovely

(05:15):
example. How many KS are on that car now?
It's just clocked 160. OK, that's too bad.
It's pretty low, to be fair. Feel good for one of those.
Is that an 80? It's an 89, isn't it?
89? Yeah.
There's one on car sales that's brown on brown just listed and
that's done 60K's, which is insane.

(05:36):
But I, I bought that car with 76on it, OK, when it was about 12
or 13 years old. So it was, I mean, it's I bought
that car in the early 2000s. Jeez, so that's been, yeah,
that's been with us longer than it's been, you know, with the
first owner. But yeah, it's, it's a lovely

(05:58):
machine, very nice engineering in that era.
Well, that I mean that we talk about Benzes from that era,
like, like we talk about the Japanese, you know, golden era,
but that was the Benz golden erafor me.
Like they just, they just did everything right.
Oh yeah. Eighties, 80s and earlier.
Is is is good. Yeah, it's a bit good Benz.
Good Benz. Speaking of another Benz guy,

(06:23):
that's Rob's just joined us. How are you, Rob?
Rob's still coming on in. Coming, coming on in.
We'll, we'll go to you, Alan. I'll update it with you.
Car wise not a lot. I'm finally getting ready to
book the D Max in for a service.Keep getting thrown around by
work, you know, Interstate. So I need to make sure I'm
actually here in Melbourne for the service.

(06:43):
But I will try and get myself a rental car.
Not a rental car, a courtesy car.
Courtesy Car. Courtesy MG, I'm sure from
Essendon. You know, it'd be funny if they
gave me an MUX or something, butthey would.
The rest of the cars are going fine.
I got the opportunity to drive aKia Sportage, this time as my

(07:04):
rental car in Mackay. The little bad thing, The new
Sportage. No, they're not.
So our friend Christian has, I think he's got the one above,
oh, I'm sorry, one below the topof the line range Sportage
current model. And he's got the little the dial
instead of the Prindle. The Prindle.
Yeah, yeah. So that's, that was kind of my
experience with the Sportage prior to this one and it was

(07:25):
nice, you know, I had the heat and cool seat and that sort of
stuff. Christian's one, not not the
rental one. So I was kind of expecting
something similar to that. Obviously this one being the mid
ish range didn't have any of thethe real cool features.
It did have wireless car play, unlike the the Outlander.
Looking at you Mitsubishi. Just that ease of connecting

(07:48):
your your phone up right. I was only driving about like 10
minutes down the road between work and the hotel, but still,
you know, you still want to connect up your phone.
You want to have your maps on, especially when you want to go
out to the one food location there is in Mackay near the near
the workshops. Pretty good.
I think it had more guts than the Outlander.
Not that I would ever floor a rental car.

(08:09):
No one would ever do that. Who does that?
No one would ever take a rental car and give the beans.
No, but you don't win any races. But it's still faster than the
Outlander. So if you're considering it,
once again, you're looking for one of those.
You know everyone buys SUV family cars.
I'd go the Kia. I really like the Sportage.
Yeah, You know, I thought I've test driven the top of the

(08:29):
range, one of the current shape.Great.
Yeah. And again, they're similar sized
cars, right? For some reason, the Outlander
felt bulkier. It it's the outer and I, I was
just about to say that the outerkind of body skin just feels
big. Yeah, Yeah.
But the interiors pretty much feel, yeah, similar.
They feel very similar. Yeah, because I wasn't like, I
didn't feel like inside. I was in a smaller car pool, but

(08:52):
on the outside, I'm like, this feels really like more
manageable again. And I'm going to an Outlander
from a Dmax. It shouldn't feel bulkier than a
Dmax, but it's what they do. They do.
Yeah. So, you know, it's maybe you'll
get something this time when I head to Mackay again this
Sunday. We'll see what kind of car they
give me. I'm I'm going to bet it's
probably going to be one of the two cars at this point.
I don't think they've got that big of a variety, but you never

(09:13):
know. Yeah, you never know.
They could give me one of their Hiluxes or something for the
mines. OK?
I'm just like, Oh yeah, I'll take that.
You know, if you've got nothing else available.
You know mate. Go go over the hill towards
mines. Yes, that's been my kind of car
driving week and all right, Sportage, I did drive in support
mode, which is again another thing.
The Outlander didn't have a support mode, and it just kind

(09:35):
of keeps you on that lower gear.Yeah, a little bit of harsh
acceleration. Give a bit more Revs.
Yeah, so again, that's why you never buy a rental car.
Ladies and gentlemen, don't buy an X rental car.
I'm one of the milder drivers I reckon, given given how people
treat rental cars. Well, there's a person on the
show that's got a rental. Got an X rental car.
Looking at you, Edward Bunting. Yeah, the Wasp, Yeah, that's the

(09:59):
Wasp was originally owned by Thrifty Rental Cars in
Queensland. I don't understand why they
would have picked the top of therange model for like a rental
car. No.
Sense maybe? It's their proof.
I'd love to think it was driven by the manager, but it probably
wasn't. It was probably fanged.

(10:20):
Speaking of that car that's getting Tommy's coming out on
Sunday, We're doing the rocker gaskets on that.
So that's that's getting the final bit of work done on
Sunday. Hopefully no hiccups.
Yeah, very nice manifold off on that.
Yes, I know Matthew, all too old.
Yes, we're trying to get you before.
Rob, can you hear us? I can hear you all there.

(10:43):
You go, we'll talk about Mercedes.
And we're like from 1 Mercedes guy to another Mercedes guy.
You're you're here. Technology, I tell you, it just
doesn't work when you want it towork.
Technology. Technology.
Maybe you getting a bit too old there, Rob.
No, I I'm getting too old, but I've got my son over here, the
computer tech working away at the computer look, trying to get
it going. All these computers look.

(11:05):
You're telling me all those computers and you couldn't get,
you couldn't log on? Couldn't log on.
I couldn't. I couldn't AirDrop your the link
get on through my phone anyway. You're here now.
You're going to make it work, Harley, Make it work.
Make it work. He's trying.
He's trying. Updates with you actually.
Sorry before we get to this. Before we do get to Rob Nathan

(11:26):
would like to mention that an honourable mention to the Alan
Mobile, which is no longer the Alan Mobile because the number
place don't exist on it. It's now Nathans SX4.
It is nearing because it's 100,000 kilometres.
Is it not done 100,000 kilometres?
That's a low Mila. Yeah.
So it is. What?
It's a 2008 I think. I remember when you came to

(11:47):
school in that car, yeah. Yeah.
Geez, nice little That's a good car, that Essex four.
Yeah, and available car. Yeah, Nathan's had the 100K
service done. I think it cost him about. 1100.
Dollars. Yeah.
Tommy Bolt and everything. Well, it's got a timing chain.
It's not a chain. OK, so I expected.
To be main motor. But he did do because I guess

(12:07):
his mechanics, all the one he did, the two tyres did a battery
and stuff. Yeah, I said to him.
I said if he had not said yes tothe parts already, I said, let
me price them out at work so I can get you, because now I also
am the parts man. Are you a parts man too?
He's a parts man now. I'm not, I'm not officially a
parts man, but. What at super cheap or somewhere
else? No, no, it's still at ABT but we
also have corporate accounts with a few parts supplies like

(12:30):
Napa and cool drive and everything else.
You get me? Can you get me?
Parts I can try. You gotta you gotta make it
worth my while, Mr Ed. Yeah, I will.
I will. Yeah.
Very good, I'll trade in that the Honda Jazz to you, and then
you give me someone else nicer. You can trade it in on the Rio.
The downgrade Rob updates with you.

(12:53):
Not much, just playing musical cars got Harley just bucking
around. Harley's E36 AMG got his tail
lights working. Just starting up some cars
driving them C. 63 still around.The C63 still around?
Yeah, that's all been detailed and minor dints cleaned up and

(13:15):
whatnot, but no bites. I don't know it's got any money.
It's a bit like that out there was I was I saying when I sold
the Triton and the Mazda 2 recently, the little Mazda, they
were the more recent cars I've sold.
One was 6900 the Mazda and one was 7800 the Triton, right.
So similar value cars. The people who bought them both

(13:37):
financed those cars. Well, you, you know, I was
surprised that you would think that someone in that market
buying something of that value would, would just be paying cash
for that. But no, they both finance them.
So that goes to show you that, you know, for a lot of people,
he really, he really is tight out there.
Like, you know, this is paycheckto paycheck style living.

(13:58):
And, and they're both good cars and they hopefully they have
good run out of them. But yeah, that's the reality.
So not everyone has even 6 grandlying around to zip into a car.
Well, we're gonna get to Scotty.Scotty's update.
Sorry, Scotty. Sorry, Scotty, Sorry.
Oh it's OK, mine will be pretty quick anyway, nothing overly
exciting coming on from my end. I washed the blade on the

(14:24):
weekend because it's been filthyfrom the weather and obviously
it's raining. Happens every single time.
Comes up really nice actually though when once you clean it, I
think it's that the because it'snot just a flat kind of white
colours that Pearl, it's a Pearlwhite.
So comes up really nice. It does.

(14:45):
Went through, did the interior and cleaned up the leather and
got that all nice and soft againso it's a nice comfy spot to be
in. It's had a lot of AUS in that
chair, Scott. Well, yeah.
And that's, that's it. That's that's all I've done.
I've just been too busy chippingaway at trying to finish this

(15:08):
shed. How is how is shed talk going?
Rob's excited for that. It's it's up.
It's up, OK, The shed's up. It's.
Up, shed's up, just got to be, you know, a few extra screws and
that put in because we just roughly put in a few just so it
holds and line it up nicely and then dine a bolt Australian.

(15:30):
Nice. Since it's raining today I had a
look. No leaks.
Good leak in anywhere, so that'sgood.
How much silicon did you use? None.
Oh, OK, I mean. No silicon done at all at the
moment and there's no leaks. There's no drips coming in
anywhere. The annoying thing is we had
trouble well nearing the end andyou got to put the doors on.

(15:54):
So you got the front frame and then there's a 22 doors open up
and we put one door on and put the other, sit the other door
down and it's out by about 40 mil and like it's overlapping by
40 mil. I'm like, how is this even
possible? We've used all the panels.
There's no other panels. It's three memes by 2.2.

(16:14):
Like how is this even possible? And it turns out some of the
pieces are 40 mil. The door's 40 mil shorter.
So we used a 40 mil. Well, it's like 740 mil piece
that should have been on one of the sides that uses a 780 mil
piece. Do you have to take it all

(16:35):
apart? No, I only had to take out,
slide out one piece and just swap it over, which is good.
Yeah, they don't mark it. So we didn't know.
We didn't know it was going to be different sizes because it
looks exactly the same. It's the same height, same
everything. It's just out by 40 mil which
you're not going to catch with your eye.
No. So now it's now it's all good.

(16:57):
Yep, all good. Updates with me.
I had a bit of a productive weekend and week.
I got ordered all my parts with the Camry that I needed.
So needed the brake lines, needed the engine mounts, needed
the rock hover gaskets, the inlet manifold gasket, the lower
control Bush to sway bar Bush. So that that's ordered that and

(17:23):
I'm going to put a set of plugs in it because when the inlet
manifolds off, it's just easy tochange the rear plugs.
So I'm going to put a set of plugs in that as well.
That's Metafold off, Matt. Metafold off.
Yeah, it is Metafold off. Yeah.
If you've got small hands and like, you know, like kind of
dinky hands like I do, you can, you can make it work.
Try to talk, rub talk. He's he's he's, he's swearing
in. That's.

(17:43):
Probably good that. Did you just say the F word in
Auslan? Yes, I see.
I think I think possibly go back, go back to your phone.
Rob you. I think you might be you might
be better there. You've had you're having a few
little issues here. So yeah, so that is that then.
Anyway, then I I know for a roadworthy like it didn't need

(18:06):
super amounts of work and they needed a few things, but but
nothing major. And the guy that had a quick
look over at first said it's actually not too bad.
So the exhaust is done, the radiator is done.
But then he, he, so yeah, but it's got a crack in the
windshield and, and it's not like A5 centimetre crack where
you can kind of get away with itand get it fixed.
This is, you know, from one sideto about the middle it's, and

(18:26):
it's at the bottom, it's underneath the underneath the
wipe. So it's actually out of the
vision of of the eye, but but you can see it.
Now you you got a quote. From O'Brien's, let's say.
Yes. How much was that, Maddie?
So I'm glad you guys are sittingdown.
They quoted me $980 to replace my windshield in the Camry, in

(18:49):
an SV 21 Camry. I was, I was just, I actually
laughed. I'm like, I just like, I was
audibly loud with my life because it was just, it was
ridiculous. They're trying to Sally everyone
calibrating the cameras and you're like, what camera is it?
It's a 98. I'll get back to that story
actually, because it's quite funny.
So then I called around and thenanother place was like 450 or

(19:10):
420 bucks and another place was 380.
And I'm like, I see there's justlike a lot for an old Camry.
Like like really it's just a piece of glass.
And I get there's a bit of labour involved.
But yeah, so then I called the Bunting who has got a, he's got
a guy, he's always got a guy. He's he goes guess what?
I've got quoted for a windscreenand I'm like 0440 and he goes

(19:32):
950 and I'm like what? But I wasn't surprised that it
was O'Brien's they really they really know how to wrought
windscreens. I sort of thought it might be in
the two, the high tubes or low 30s.
But what generally you got my guy and it was low.
Yeah, wasn't it? Yeah.
So like I said, anything on the 300 I think is reasonable for

(19:53):
for that because it's an older car, I guess the glass is harder
to come by etcetera. But anything on the three, I
thought that's a reasonable price.
He quoted me 242 installed. Beautiful.
And I'm like happy days. Let's let's book that in.
Then today I get a call from O'Brien's again.
Hi. Hey, just just just checking in
about going up on that quote on your quote, you know, would you

(20:14):
like to go ahead with it? I'm like, oh, look, I'm still,
I'm still thinking about it. Oh, I did not.
They're like, look, we can probably do you a little bit
better on the price. I'm like, oh, OK, a bit better.
OK. Well, if you can get it to 200
flat, then I'll use you. Yeah.
Use you. Yeah, yeah.
So, so that was, that was a, that was a quick phone call and
I, I just couldn't, I couldn't believe like the difference in

(20:35):
price. It's just, it was staggering,
you know, half essentially the price of the car, you know, for,
for what is a piece of glass. So, yeah, so glad I but I'll be
bringing that over to Edward's Sunday evening.
I look forward to seeing it and having to thrive.
Yes, Well, you'll have to use a trade play.

(20:57):
I have one of those because it'll be after hours.
Edward, I will use that. Yes.
I'm gonna bang that baby all night.
Yeah, you can do that, Edward. You can do that.
Get it up on. V6 Power.
That camera are gonna get real well acquainted V6 quad
camshaft. Thank you very much.
You're gonna put one? Of those plastic sheets on the

(21:17):
seat, by the way, Dad's talking. It is a silky spirit little V6
though it is. It is great.
So I drove it today because I dropped it off to to my mechanic
to get those items fitted to thecar.
So I said to him, you know, I need to have a back by Friday.
He's like it'll be done by tomorrow, which is even even

(21:38):
good. So I'll pick that up.
Should be a true drive a lot better with new engine mounts.
That's that's for sure because they were the engine just feels
like it was, you know, about to jump out of the car.
So we'll do that. That'll go to your place.
And then after that, so it's next week.
It's going to go back to that place, get the road where they
ticked off and then it should beready for ready for

(21:59):
registration. So on Sunday, on Sunday, I gave
the interior a little bit of a clean.
I didn't get a chance to bistle the seats just yet.
The back seats don't need don't need up at the front.
You got to be a bit of, you know, got a bit of a human,
human grot vacuum vacuumed it out.
Pretty terrible vacuum. I'm not going to lie.
It was wouldn't wouldn't suck anything if it couldn't suck
anything off the material and the correct yes, that's that's

(22:21):
correct. What what vacuum?
Whose vacuum were you using? I was using a stick vac that
didn't even have any attachmentsbecause I was at I was at my
mum's place and she couldn't find her vacuum and this vacuum
was terrible. If you want, you can borrow a
Ryobi wet dry vac that's got a dent in it from a forklift.
Ask me where it is. I'm assuming your place.

(22:42):
So that was really, it wasn't myhappiest moment because I should
have brought my vacuum with me. But anyway that that was done.
Then I then I realised I'd left the lights on in the car because
I was, I had the doors open and then the battery ran flat.
So I had to jump it today when Idrove it off to the mechanics.
But that's OK. But yeah, start starts great.
Well, from a cold start, it's got a bit, it doesn't really

(23:04):
like a cold start at the moment and it's just sounds like it
starts great, starts bad on the in a, in a cold.
But as soon as it starts after that it's good.
So, so that's always that. That's fine.
What's it doing as in just cranking more than it should
Yeah, it just cranks. It just cranks so and then it
just crank crank, crank, crank, crank, crank, crank, crank,
crank injected. Obviously it is fuel injected.

(23:25):
That is correct. So some cold start mechanism
that's not yeah. I spoke to the guys and then
they reckon it's just the the idle speed controller, you know
at you know, cold they can be but when it's warm it's happy
days even started fine. It's only when it's like really
cold it it doesn't really like areally cold start, but apart
from that it's, it's pretty fine.

(23:47):
It actually rips like it, it I drove it today and I, I put my
boot into it and yeah, it was itit goes all right.
So they took it there and they're like, this is a time
capsule. Like it's, it's quite literally
an old man's car. And I'm like, yeah, I know.
So, so they were, they were actually kind of excited to, to
they've, they've actually never had seen a, a like a, you know,

(24:07):
fully imported, fully imported, one of those like they've,
they've never seen one, but let alone worked on them.
So I said, well, there you go, here it is, here it is.
But then he also proceeded to tell me he's like, well, you've
got a lot of old cars. I know a guy that's always
shooting films in Australia. He's always after casting
periods. I'll give him your number
because he could always put something in there.
So, and I was like, well, I knowsome other people that can, that

(24:28):
can, that can be part of that. Depending on the genre of film,
we could find something. Absolutely, absolutely.
So just on that note, I got a little highlight.
So a friend rang me yesterday talking about, what was he
talking about? He's got a Merc.
Like I helped him bite a few years ago.
It's a current shape or the C Class before the current
1205205. Yeah, he's got 205.

(24:51):
And he was like, oh, it's got some sensor.
And I said, look, go see this guy.
And then I was asking about his son who's our family friend of
ours, but I haven't seen the sonin quite some years and said,
oh, what's he up to? And he goes, oh, he's doing this
music editing because he's actually working with an
Australian director at the moment.
They, they work really well together.
I'm like, Oh yeah, he goes, haveyou seen the film Malcolm?

(25:12):
And I'm like, uh huh. I'm like Nadia TASS.
And he's like, that's right. And I'm like, she did the big
steel, which is my all time favourite.
So yeah, my family friend knows Nadia TASS.
Oh dude, I'm like, let's just keep that in the back burner cuz
that could be a podcast. That could be a special Ed

(25:35):
introduction. That could be something I don't
know what. Absolutely, absolutely.
I'm like, that's a cool connection.
It can be, it can be. We're not even going to talk.
It's just going to just going tospeak, speak to this guest.
No, just yeah, just don't know what that's anyway.
So I thought that was a cool connection anyway.
That's that's that's really cool.
So yeah, that's that. And I think that's pretty much
it on my updates. I'm at the Ducket because he's

(25:56):
got a committee meeting here tonight.
So we're going to get on with our topic of this evening, which
is which cars should have had a hot version.
And we we kind of touched on this last week because we
mentioned the Jazz. The Jazz should have had a hot
Jazz. There should have been like a
yeah, there should have been, there should have been like a
really cool fast little Jazz which would have taken it up to
the Fiesta STS and the, you know, 2O8 Gtis that and that

(26:19):
would have been like the Honda City Turbo, you know, modern day
do that to a Jazz. Absolutely, yeah, absolutely.
I just don't know why Honda never did a hot Jazz like it, it
was crying after one. It's got a great chassis.
They used the Nugget Nationals like crazy.
You know, people mod them like crazy.
They've they've, you know, the aftermarket's quite good.

(26:40):
You know, they're quite stealth. They're reliable, they're fun to
drive. You know, they should have been
a hot little version of that car.
So it got me thinking like one of the cars should have had a
hot version now, Scotty, said David Matiz in the in the chat
earlier today. Imagine a hot day with Matiz.
That would have been that would have been so funny.
Well, that would be quite hot. I mean, the standard Matiz
wasn't very good That that that engine was a bit of a wheezy

(27:01):
nothingness 3 cylinder, but, youknow, suck a turbo on it and
give it some rims and a bit of suspension and, you know, yeah,
why not? Yeah.
Would you agree with that, Scotty?
Yeah, that Matiz would be like this crazy little zippy thing,
just hammering around 10 with some cool racing stripes.
Just imagine. We'll do.

(27:23):
We'll do a quick test for Rob. Rob can hear us.
Yes, can hear you, Rob. Wow.
What talking, Rob? What?
What did you change? Oh, the MacBook settings
someone. I must have hit the speaker
buttons and they're trying to find the right speaker again.
Anyway, it's I'm here. We got your back, Rob.
So we're talking about hot, hot versions of cars that that
should have existed. So you guys are all about the

(27:46):
materials. So we've talked about the Jazz
talked about the materials, but what other ones should have
happened? What hot version should have
should have happened? Did they ever do a hot version
of the Lexus? The original little IS they did
a 300, but that was that was that was a 2.
Naturally, I spread A2J wasn't exactly a performance sedan.

(28:06):
They did do like a concept in America of they called it the IS
4:30 where they put in the V8 that they the with the with the
manual gearbox. It was kind of Lexus backed with
that. Yeah, that Cusco good chassis
that would have lent itself to ahotter version, I think.
That would have been cool. So I think that the first Gen IS
absolutely like an IS430 in thatfirst Gen would be epically

(28:30):
good. Yeah.
Even if they did like a turbo 2Jversion like the shredder of the
Super like that would have, thatwould have wouldn't have taken
taken much to get going. And people have done it ever
since. So, so, yeah, I think that would
have been, yeah, it's an opportunity missed, I think.
Imagine a rear wheel drive Toyota Orion in manual.

(28:52):
Yeah, that would. Yeah.
Well, they never, they never offered the Orion as a manual.
And if they, if they would have, that would have been bloody
awesome because they offered, they offered magnetism as
manuals. Imagine a TIDOL drive Orion
manual, Orion supercharged. Supercharged.
V6 turbo straight 6. 2 The otherway around. 2JZ. 2JZ dude,

(29:17):
imagine a 2JZ Orion. That'll be sick.
Oops. Sorry, even basic ones, you
know, like the BRZS and 80 Sixers, they even though they're
they've got sort of a sort of a abstract version, they haven't
really got something that's, youknow, wide body big, you know,
skirts, turbo, nothing like that.

(29:41):
It was more of a premium, like there was a premium package and
I think that just did like interior stuff.
And on the later ones you could get the TID pack with the with
the bigger, you know, Brembo brakes and all that sort of
stuff, body kit and that. But it was just like same thing,
but no more power. You know what I mean?
Like, and and that that car was crying out for like a like a
turbo version or a you know, like the the hot version of it.

(30:04):
And even though it was kind of ahottish car in, you know, that
for years people think, oh, you know, the hot 1's coming, the
hot 1's coming, it never happened.
So, yeah, I agree with you guys.I think.
I think that's a that's a great one.
Rob. Edwin.
Edwin. Edwin, you owned one.
I thought, I thought should havehad a hot.

(30:24):
They should have had a hot Mazdatwo.
Yeah, that's true, isn't it? Like you had the Swift Sport.
Yeah, yeah, because the Master 2that I mean that little one I
just had that was a genuinely a fun little peppy 1.5.
That was a great car to drive. And do you know why can I, can
I? That same chassis is the chassis

(30:45):
of the Fiesta estate. Is it really?
It is the same platform yeah. So they you know, it was all
there they could have used Fiesta St stuff and yeah that
that little snappy gear shift, it sort of comes out of the
dash, you know, quite a short throw.
So I I really enjoyed hanging that messed around on all these
things at cracker. But you're right yeah, that that

(31:06):
chassis it'd need better suspension because it was a bit
uppity, you know, a bit more buoyingy buoyingy than say a
Swift. But if that had the right
suspension and wheels and and yeah, a little turbo on the 1.5,
that'd be great car. Even if I had the the previous
Gen Fiesta 1.6 turbo, which is yeah, you know that that would
have been absolutely great. That would have been a cracking

(31:28):
car. Yep, I had a.
Hot version of the Swift many years ago.
They did the GTI and then they had the Swift Sports.
It's GDI was the original Hot 1 and then they always had sports
like with every generation. They've had a sport, but power.
Not really. It's not really they're better
than the standard, but they're not amazing.

(31:48):
Yeah, I mean, they set the worldon fire.
But but at least it was a hot 1 like they had they had a hot,
hot version of it. But yeah, I think the Mazza 2
see the Mazza 2 and the Jazz were just crying out forever for
for a hot version of those. Imagine, imagine a little race
series with a hot Jazz, a hot a hot Mazza 2 and hot Fiesta St

(32:08):
and and all these there would have been it would have been a
phenomenal little series to to watch.
That would have been great. Agree.
Even if the even if the the Jazzjust had a little bit slightly
bigger engine with a, with a screaming VTEC engine like that
would have been that would have been yeah.
Something so it would be PicantoBarrage and Jazz A. 100% you you

(32:30):
wanted to get a modified A modified mirage?
That's another one. They never did a hot mirage, did
they? Did do a sports version of 1.
Yeah. A sport.
Sports. What was that?
A sticker? A decal sticker package.
Yeah. Seats interior a little bit
weird. That one I had a few years ago
was white ordo with blue cloth but that had BMR stickers on it

(32:54):
like in some graphics and I always thought it was because it
came from build Mitsubishi. I thought it was build
Mitsubishi racing or something, but it it was a factory thing.
You know, they they bought it with those stickers on it so
well in Japan you could get those mirages with like hotter
engines like like you get like ahot Hodge version of them, you
know, twin Cam engines and two litres.

(33:14):
And also one point out, I think like very similar to a proton
saturated GTI, which is kind of what it is really, you know,
they made them they made them quite quick and fun.
So. And like, yeah, Mercedes do a
hot SUV. What about a hot Vitara or
chimney or sorry, hot? Something like that.

(33:34):
Well, over with you on that. Remember, Robert, we're talking
ages ago on this podcast how I'dwatched a YouTube clip of that.
Who's that guy who does barn fines or something?
I forget his name. Jason's barn fines or something.
John, the Late Break Show something.
Yeah, yeah. Johnny.
Johnny Smith. So he'd gone and driven a
chimney that had been done over by the UK firm that does over

(33:57):
like Land Rovers and Range Rovers.
It had Alcantara roof liner. It had been supercharged it like
full leather, you know, heated seats been put in it like it had
really been luxoid up. And he just said it was
phenomenal. You know, the the the power and
the the and it was a lot quieterbecause they put more sound in
it that would have been heavier, but quieter and more grunty

(34:19):
because because that's somethingthat's always been lacking in a
Jimmy and just grunt. Just Grant, give it Grant.
It's all it needs really. And it's the perfect car.
I think. I still haven't driven one.
I really, I was talking to Tommytoday and we're saying we really
need to just go rent one for theweekend and and really have a
good play in it. Absolutely.
I want to I want to get familiarwith the gymney before you make

(34:42):
your mind up, Edward. Oh, I've made my mind up.
Well, I will own one at some point.
Not not right now, but it will happen.
It'll have. Of course it will happen.
About $10,000 cheaper. Yeah, then then my own one,
they're getting into the low 20snow, OK.
Like, you know, some of the highmileage ones are 23 sort of
thing. There was 1.

(35:02):
I don't know if you guys saw it,It was in Queensland and it it
came on and it was like 12 or 13grand and it was the current
shape done a few KS and I thought, why the hell is that so
cheap? And I thought, I know why.
It's been on a beach. Yeah, and it's got a rusted
chassis or something. Fraser on.
Yeah, that's because when I was on Fraser, I saw them for rent

(35:25):
on Fraser and I thought it's gotto be something that's just at
the end of its, well, maybe not the end of its life, but it's
got the startings of corrosion, you know.
But yeah, could buy that for their farm and pretty nice farm
car. Yeah.
What about you, Scotty? Hyundai XL.
Oh, good one. Yeah, they liked that one.
Yeah, they never really did that, did they?

(35:46):
Oh, they had the twin Cam one, but it wasn't really hot.
No, just said twin Cam on the boot lid I think.
If they have a racing series of them now, like they could have
easily done something pretty cool for the road.
Yeah, back. In the day, because that was
that was popular. Like they were everywhere.

(36:07):
They were selling well. So yeah, I don't know.
Well, you'd be the one for because like I was going to say,
the Hyundai gets, they should have a hot gets.
Oh, yes, yes. You mentioned this last week,
maybe about the Honda Civic as well.
There's real no ultra premium onthe Civic.
Well, there's they got the like the type R, which is like the
like the, the hot, the real hot version.

(36:29):
But then there's like kind of nothing in between really, isn't
we, we never, oh, I mean, you get that now.
But in those older civics, we never got a super hot 1.
Like there was the IR or something.
But yeah, we got the VTR. Yeah, but I'm with you.
I'm with you, Scotty. Imagine a hot a hot little
Excel. Would it competed well?
See, here's the thing, they did the S coupe scoop turbo.

(36:50):
They did a turbo version of that.
They did a hot one of that, which wasn't really that hot.
But wasn't that turbo engine in a in an excel be great?
Would. Have been great fun, I agree.
It's fair to say that the smaller cars are getting very
airtime here with the hot versions.
Not not so much big yeah, well, well a lot of bigger stuffs
quite often they did have a hotter version.

(37:13):
I mean the TI like we talked about earlier TID at your end
that had a hot version. Even Magna had a Magna had a
sporty VRX, but then it had a real hot you know, rally art.
The Fords and Holdens had their their you know, ones even like
the big Germans like in your M5.So if you stand in sedan and
stuff, you know, like that was you know your hot 5 Series and
etcetera, etcetera. But you know, other, other cars

(37:35):
that that were crying out for a,for a hot version.
I mean, we've touched on on the little nugget versions and I
guess they're Nuggets for a reason because they're, you
know, they're meant to be cheap and, and cheerful.
But you know, I think you're right.
Like the early that first Gen ISsaid.
That's a classic example of one that needed one.
I thought like the last prelude, like it was a, you know, the

(37:56):
VTIR, you know, they went prettywell, but like it could have
just it could have been, it could have looked a little bit
hot. I could have had a bit more, a
bit more oomph, I think, and then it would have been that
would have made like a like theycould have made a Type R version
of it. I meant to.
Say you're thinking of bringing back.
Yeah, have a type R version of it instead a. 100% yeah,
absolutely. Because like even with the new

(38:17):
one, it's just coming out with the automatic only and
everyone's like, well this is going to be crying out for a
Type R, you know, like that, that that needs to happen.
So, so stuff like that, even though there were sporty coupes
that there wasn't a real hot version of it that all that we
got anyway. What are some other examples?
Gentlemen, yeah, I'm trying to think there's just so many
larger cars, but they've got something already.

(38:39):
As you said, Ford's Holdens, they've already got everything.
Europeans were pretty good at the hot versions, like OK,
Jerry's had your M3, the Mercs had their AMG or their V8
versions. It's more that little stuff.
Yeah that cheaper into the market.
Is there anything mid size, likeeven your Mazda threes, you

(39:00):
know, had the SP23 or SP25 that was that that that that in MPs,
yeah. And MPs, yeah.
So they that's a hot 1. They did do that.
I was thinking like the last generation MR2, the Mark 3 they
never had that. That was only a friggin yeah,

(39:24):
auto neat thing I was saying wasn't it auto sequential thing
that we got here in Australia? They did come out as a manual
overseas, but they came with thebasic Corolla engine or one ZZ.
But imagine if that with that had the Corolla Sportivo 2 ZZ
engine, you know, but you're gonna you know why you want that
is a sports car. Won't you make that sporty?
I agree like they didn't that's the engine.
Isn't it still with that's stillcorrect.

(39:44):
Yep, and everyone takes out the original ones and puts it and
all these poor little Corolla Sportivos having their hearts
ripped out to get them to get replaced in in Toyota MR2's
because that's the engine it should have come with in the 1st
place. So, so yeah like they, they, you
know, even even with sports cars, they didn't really, really
some like have some like hot versions of them.
So yeah, that for me was was andeveryone, everyone talks about

(40:08):
Aussie delivered ones of those. They were always disappointed.
Like, yeah, like it was it handled really, really well, but
they didn't really do it even. Even Mazda did something with
the MX5 like they offered a turbocharged version, you know,
in the in the mid 2000s, well, early, early 2000's, the SE and
the SP versions. But but even then, they haven't
really had a hot inverter commaslike a, you know, a track, a
track ready MX5 as as per SE. I mean, they have had like, you

(40:30):
know, track editions and stuff, but not really like the like a
hotted version of that. And yeah, it's it's a bit of a
shame, but even going back, Rob,here's one for you, P-76.
They never they they never really had a like the tiger
Flora was just kind of a stickerpack really, wasn't it?
There wasn't it wasn't really it.
Wasn't LSD diff. Oh OK, how did LSD go there?
That's something. Oh, back in that back in its

(40:53):
day, that was. Hot man.
Electric. Electric aerial.
Oh, OK, OK. Our steering standard.
Woo. It even had reclining seats in
it. Nice talking, but they were
about to build a hot hatch and that was the four 7 coupe
tortoise. So they were.

(41:14):
Going to actually they were preparing it for Bathurst
apparently. And it's.
Never happened. The company went belly up before
they could launch it and they crushed hundreds of the shells.
We were on the production line and I think about 10 or so cars
survived. Yeah, and they're with stupid
money these days. I.

(41:34):
Don't know. I don't know what they're worth,
whether they're worth stupid money or what, but they were
never ADR complied so. So how are they like?
Because I've seen some like withplates driving around, like, how
is that? What if it be need?
Or suppose an engineered sign off.
Yeah, that would, that would have been really bloody hard to

(41:54):
to kind of organise. But they were about to build 1,
but yeah, it never got there. Yeah, I was just, I don't know,
the Toyota Corolla AE86, Yeah. Yeah, Yeah, we didn't get the
hot one of that. It was we didn't get the hot one
in Japan I think wasn't there. Yeah.
So they got the full twin Cam 4AG engine in in this.
We only got the four AC, which is the carby single Cam, you

(42:17):
know, in, you know, not injectedin, you know, non LSD, just just
the base base spec kind of kind of car.
And for the remainder ones that are, unless it's like a grandpa
spec, they've all been, you know, made into a hot hottish
version. But like it was never, it was
never a fast car, but it was always, you know, it always had

(42:38):
a bit more, you know, it was a bit of a kind of like a like a
like a zippy car more more than anything else.
But any other ones, Scotty? What are the ones that should
have had a real hot version? What about the Sonata?
The Sonata, the luxury car. You know which which car they
haven't got a hot version of is the the current mini coupe is

(43:00):
that could put an M2 motor in itor something.
Yeah, they could, huh? No, they got the JCWS and all
that stuff. Yeah, it's a JCW, but it's not
super. Pretty quick.
Are they? Yeah, they're quick, but they're
like, they're not stupid quick. They're very fun to drive.
They're they're amazingly engaging.
If you haven't driven one, highly recommend.

(43:20):
No M2. Yeah, not everything's about M2,
M2M Schmoon chassis, you know, like a decent chassis that
doesn't have a hot version. Yeah, it's hard because like a
good handling car at Rio. I'm driving that's quite good.

(43:43):
Yeah, the Yeah, there hasn't been a hot Rio.
Do you remember when they did that WRX version like the like
the the Rio de Janeiro? Yeah, the de Janeiro.
Yeah, the de Janeiro, the hot one.
Yeah, that's a that's a cool 1. And I remember that were years
ago, they compared the this Surido XSTI to the the Subarido
X look alike. Rio had like gold wheels, blue

(44:04):
paint job, big spoiler. And it was quite funny.
But yeah, they've never had a hot Rio, which is weird because,
you know, it's kind of similar to an I-30, right?
So like it's similar chassis andthere's a hot I-30.
It's an I-30 in Rio. It's smaller, a little bit
smaller, but it's, you can stillget the same 2 litre, I think.
So you can make that work. Yeah, you're right.

(44:27):
I call it the Rio de Janeiro, like the, the, the hot version.
Yeah, instead of the end the thethe de Janeiro version that
that'd be that'd be. Kind of cool hot hatches like
the Golf Gtis. You know they've got a Golf R
and an in line. There's still no a like a, a 45
or. Yeah, the Golf R, that's as high

(44:50):
as you go, isn't it? Yeah, yeah.
And like, it's a it's a hot version, but like, they're
getting into like, hypercar territory, you know, like that.
That's getting into like the real, real fast version.
How much is the Golf on now? Always 80 grand, I think at 80
grand, I think they're not a cheap car.
Like, Jesus, that's expensive, isn't it?
Like, that's a lot of money for an unreliable golf match.

(45:12):
Yeah, it's arguably too much money, to be honest with you.
Yeah, I'm not spending yeah no, I don't think I I would be
either. Any last ones before we get to
the what about a hot van? Did anyone do a hot van like
like you know what that that newHyundai I what is it called?
Staria Staria. I actually like the Staria

(45:32):
that's an all wheel drive. Not all of them I think, but the
the turbo diesels are an all wheel drive.
Imagine if you had a hot one of that that was a bit lower, with
dark windows and some bling magsand you know, some cool graphics
on it. That is it all dry.
That wouldn't be a bad thing. Transit customer for Coyote
Motor in it. No, Rob.

(45:54):
Yeah, why? Did it go because in the 70s hot
vans were big? Bring back panel vans more than
vans, but bring back hot vans. Yeah, that'd be all.
I'm with you on that, a hot van is something that that could
have been really fun. Rage your mags on Astaria with
the right Navy blue paint. Bit of bit of pink graphic

(46:15):
that's kind of. Cool, a lot of guys have been
dumping their Hiluxes and putting LS's in them.
How about a hot dumped Hilux? Yeah, I was, yeah, absolutely.
You know, all these. But if he's saying they're not
attracted, don't Jack it up, putit down, put it down like, you
know, they're not, they're not attracting the the meatheads in
there, you know, in their RangerRaptors and stuff.
So like if if Ranger can do a Raptor Hilux can surely do it

(46:38):
like a like a like a hot a hot Hilux like like that's it's been
crying out for that car for like, you know, like you can put
you know, I don't know, put likea a modern 2J in it or something
like, you know, put something fast in it because because it's
the if the rap that can prove that can sell, then then it can
crutch can. All right, so so yeah, I think a
hot Hilux would be would be kindof cool.
A hot NAV, hot Navarro, like, but like, you know, like

(47:00):
probably hot like, which I wish I with actual power, not, you
know, not just, you know, jackedup with, you know, looking like
it's, you know, it's a monster actually making it making it a
monster, make it back. It's claims because it's they're
quite they're not very fast, arethey?
So I think that would that wouldbe like any one of those things,
because like at the moment, you know, they they're the biggest

(47:22):
selling cars in in the country. You know, there's there's more
of those than anything else. So why don't they do?
Why don't they do more hot versions of like if if they can
sell a million Raptors to peoplewho are idiots and spending 100
grand Raptors, my brother included, you know you can
surely you can surely flog off a90 grand hot now of 90 grand hot
Hilux. Should they should throw the 400

(47:45):
zip motor in it? Correct.
Absolutely. That's three litre again, very
similar to the rap, the twin turbo V6.
Yeah, that'd be cool. Yep.
And there is a market for it because there's guys converting
the Coyotes into ranges and theyused to the LS Colorado.
So obviously there's a bit of a a call for it.

(48:09):
Absolutely. Now I think there's also a call
for like, you know, your SUVs because, because people are, you
know, I mean they're buying, butlike, do you remember when when
they had a 200 kilowasp killer Wasps?
Yeah, in the Rav 4, the Rav 4 like that was a that was a hot
Rav 4. That was a, you know, fast Rav
4. Why don't they do something like
that today, like another hot Rav4?
You know, that'd that'd be cool.Yeah, forget this hybrid economy

(48:31):
bullshit. Give us a hot Rav.
Absolutely give us a hot Rav that can actually, you know,
because like if what do you callit?
The Rav 4 something. Raging Rav.
Right, the raging Rav. Oh, I like that Rav 4.
Lava. Lava.
They're all in red. They're lowered.
What motor would they have? I don't even have the 2 GRV 6.

(48:51):
Like, like the Orion V6. Orion V6, The supercharger or
something. Yeah, why not?
That's been done. So, you know, the driver can
take it absolutely easy. Yeah, piss off the black leather
factory panoramic roof. Yep, lowered.
Decent sound system lowered. Yeah.
Now we're getting somewhere. Yeah.
I you know, it's, it should be done.

(49:13):
If these cars are, you know, yougot to think cars like, for
example, you know, the Falcons and Commodores, they always had
a hot version. So like, but you know, even if
you weren't buying a hot version, you could always say,
Oh yeah, that, you know, that there's a hot version of my car,
you know, for sale. Like it was, it was an
aspirational version of it for me.
A Rav 4 is so uninspired. Like it's an uninspiring car.

(49:34):
And I'm what it's a selling car.Yeah, it's a, it's a good car,
but it doesn't it, but it doesn't do anything like
everything, anything. Well, like it just it just does
everything OK. And for me, like that car should
have been, you know, like if they want to say, well, you can
get this one in a lowered, more powerful version that's, you
know, that's more fun to drive, like like Hyundai, Hyundai can
do it if they can do it with theKona, you know, and and make a

(49:56):
hot kerner Kerner in which is not that much slower than a than
an I-30 and around a race track.Surely they can do it with a
with a freaking, you know. GR.
Rev AGR Rev Yeah, like a like a,a GRM.
Yeah, that'll be sick. Even if they put the even if
they put the three cylinder turbo in it like that, that'd
still be great. Oh my God, I drive a Morizzo

(50:21):
LBX. You know, that's a Lexus thing
in Japan before it came to Australia.
That thing ripped like blue and that's that's kind of rough
fourish size. So I was like this also Corolla
Cross size. But that drivetrain in in
anything would be would be remarkably quick.
So, yeah, I think, I think they're missing the, they're
missing the ball. But again, the Lexus 1's not

(50:43):
really selling too well. But then again, it is quite, it
is quite a pricey car. I think if they, if they
marketed it right and said, you know, we can, we can do a hot, a
hot Rev, I think that's, you know, that'd be something to, to
consider. Do you think that we needed some
hot versions of Saab back in theday?
There were hot versions. They did the vegan.
Vegan. Yeah, they did the vegan.

(51:05):
I like the vegan. I'd actually I'd if I'd consider
owning a vegan if if they, if you could find one, if you can
find one. Yeah, and the parts aren't
ridiculously hard to get, but I've always had a soft spot for
Saab. Like they were just Saab was a
do you, do you guys think Saab was misunderstood or they were
just they just went over here. Yeah, Australians didn't you.

(51:27):
Mainstream Australians didn't get Saabs.
You had to be a bit special. That's because the mainstream
Australians bought Saab convertibles that weren't great,
that leaked and had issues. But a but a vegan's a cool car.
I like a vegan. I've driven a vegan.
That was that was talk steer allwrapped in a car body that was
insane talks to you. Was it quick?

(51:48):
It was quite quick if you but you know, getting the power down
was a struggle and just wanted to change lanes the whole time.
You really had to have put your hands on the wheel when you were
giving it boot. Yeah, just like the jet fighter.
Yeah, but it's based on wasn't. There a hot waggon version of a
Saab. Yeah, you could get some like

(52:11):
some hot turbo turbo waggon Saabs, you'd like gryphons and
things. I think the vegan was the
hottest, though. Vegan was their their their
hottest version. I I would agree with you there.
They're also the they did you know like the Swede Swede speed
was was a was a was a kind of a big thing for a while and it's
not doesn't really exist anymoreOh I can though I'm a fan yeah

(52:31):
What about a hot Renault 16? Well they did that that's called
the Renault 16TX TX. Oh OK.
We never got the TX here in Australia, but that was a
slightly larger capacity motor. Was that injected as well?
No, not injected, but it was a 5speed box, power windows,
sunroof, you know Yeah, a littlebit more powerful engine.

(52:55):
So it was TX. My friend has one, but you know
I wouldn't exactly. It was hot for the 70s maybe,
but it was not exactly hot. We'll have to we'll have to
revisit this. With what?
What Car shouldn't have had a hot version?
Yeah. What Car had a hot version?
They should have left a little moon.
The Pintara TRX springs. Yeah, just leave it as a

(53:17):
Pintara. Good advice.
All right well, we'll move on tothe car quiz.
Which I'm just been kindly offered to be done by the lovely
Rob Zadai. Rob, you're doing the car quiz
today. I felt I was trying to go
through questions a bit. I felt like we've touched on a
lot of them, so bear with me if we've come across again before.

(53:38):
My memory sucks, so it's all right.
Anyway, I try to sort of find something different and made it
a bit tougher, so all right. So a bit.
Tougher start. Let's go.
I've got ready to go for you so.What was the the chassis code
for the legendary BMWE 46-M3 CSL?
Chassis code for it. Yeah.

(54:00):
No, it's not E46 of of. E46 dash something?
Oh, OK, see, don't actually knowthat.
Matthew E-406-3. No, no.
Are you on the right track, Scotty?
Is it just like Dash 3 CSL? No.

(54:23):
I just got the engine code stuckon my head.
Yeah, S 50 was it, S 54 wasn't. It so is it?
Well, I'm not sure of the enginecode, but the the actual chassis
code. What's?
The engine code stuck on my head.
I never sold one, all right. It was Dash 2S2S.

(54:45):
There you go, 2 S Yeah, that wasthen.
That was a chassis code for the M3 CSL I.
Wonder what that stands for? I have one in the showroom Ed.
There was one that got brought in while we were there for a
very short time. It was the MD knew the owner or
something like that. But OK.
No, we didn't. We didn't have them really.

(55:05):
They were an old car or older car by then.
Yeah. That's true.
This one I'll go closest to, it's probably a bit more.
Not if no one really knows theirFerraris all that well.
I don't think so. But what was the compression
ratio of the naturally aspiratedF-136-V8 engine in the 458
Italia? Matthew.

(55:27):
Go, Matthew. I'm going to say 14 to 1.
Yeah. All right.
Well, closest to. Really. 14 One Scott, 12 to one
close. What'd you say, Scott?
12. 12, 15. I'll give it to Scotty's 12.5 to
1. Oh, OK, that one.

(55:50):
Yeah. There you go, Scotty.
Well done. All right, all right.
So the next one, which car used the Cam back aerodynamic design
principle in their rare profile of their vehicles?
Cam back. Or the Cam back.
Never even heard of that, it's Cam back.
Sounds vaguely familiar. KA double MB ACK Cam back.

(56:13):
Cam back. Go on it, Audi.
No. What you're thinking though.
There are two manufacturers, onein the early days and one later
in the naughties. Aerodynamic design principle.
Yeah, I've heard of it. It's kind of like the
Hoffmeister kink. Yeah, that sort of thing.
I want to say. Matthew VW.

(56:35):
No, no. OK, Scotty.
I was thinking them and I didn'thave a backup.
Did, did you guys mention something earlier on with maybe
No, I'll, I'll, I'll no, that's all right.
But there's one specific answer.I'm going to say Saab.

(56:56):
No, everyone's out. Everyone's out.
The Toyota Prius. Really.
Yeah, and also the BMW 328 Coop.OK and Coop.
Oh, that thing. Yeah, All right.
That's no points yet anyway. So Scotty on one, he's leading

(57:17):
up so. He's on one of the three
questions. Or might or might throw some
more questions in there. What was the first car to
feature dual clutch transmission?
Matthew. What's the good one?
I should notice it was the Audi TT.
It's not what I've researched, but.
OK. But you're on the right sort of

(57:37):
track. I know it was the first mass
produced car to have a have a dual clutch.
I know that but. Scotty it.
Don't know, could be any number of things.
Throw it out there, Mike. Have a guess.
Porsche. Again, on the right track, the
right group, but wrong car. So it's a Volkswagen Audi Group,

(58:03):
gentlemen. I think I'm in the car, yes.
Like a Volkswagen Golf. Got it.
Yeah, it's a, it's a, it was a golf R32, I think.
So I'll give you a wow. 5 each. How's that?
.5 each. I'll take that and I'll get .25

(58:23):
for being in the right. Group No.
All right, so that was that one.The next one, what was the drag
coefficient of the original AudiA2 1.2 TDI?
Original A2. Yeah.

(58:46):
It's like it's like a kind of like a tall, high little A1
looking thing. It's it's a weird look.
We never got them, but they're, they were very, they're kind of
like a, they're a bit of a collector's item now actually,
I'm going to go O .32. All right, closest to. 0.32 Yep,
I'm going to go Matthew. I want to go 0.40.

(59:10):
I'm going to go is 0.5. Eds.
The closest is .25. That's quite low.
Wow. Yep, I want to this one say
Scotty Question. What was the exact displacement
of the RB26DE TT engine? Matthew.
Skyline. So, Matthew. 2.6 litre.

(59:34):
Or I'll go closest to Oh no exact CC's.
Oh, you're exact CC's. OK, 2589.
All right, 2598. And Scotty.

(59:55):
I think that's what it is. Thought is on the money on that
one. What I.
Researched. How long Scott?
Two point 2.573. Scotty, you're the closest to
6-8. Oh OK, Scotty is the chocolate.

(01:00:15):
That was luck that that one was luck, I thought.
I thought Ed was on the money. Yeah, because it's the eight.
Yeah, so it was. Yeah, he went 98 when it was a
68. So.
All right, So what #7 which car manufacturer developed the Sky
ActiveX compression ignition? Matthew.
I heard Matthew that was that would be Mazuda.

(01:00:36):
Yeah. So what I was going to say.
First cut, first in first serve.Yeah, whatever.
That was an easy one, I thought. But anyway, what was the first
car to use carbon ceramic brakesin a production model?
Ed. Go on, Ed BMW.
Again, not what my research tells me.
In the production model Matthew Lamborghini Aventador.

(01:01:01):
No. Scott.
On that path there Ed Scott. No, I thought it was the the
McLaren SLR. It's actually Ferrari and it's,
to be specific, in Enzo. Oh really?
Enzo is the other person. Yeah, First one to yeah, have
production carbon brakes. There you go.

(01:01:23):
Which car holds a record for thefastest lap?
Well, we had a Nurburring one last time and Nurburring notch,
what are they called? Launch light or a production
vehicle. As of 2023, The Record. 3.
Production Production is Matthew.
Yeah, go, Matthew. GT3RS.
No. I'm glad you said that because I

(01:01:46):
was going to say that one. And it's not, it's not your,
it's a select car, and not everyone could buy one.
Yeah, it'd be a Ferrari of some, some some description, I'd say.
So I'll, I'll put everyone back in on it, but no, it's not a
Ferrari. OK, probably don't like the post

(01:02:07):
times, do they gentlemen? They like to so.
Is there a pagani of some sort? No, no.
Matthew, is it a McLaren? McLaren P1.
You're all on the right track, but it's a similar sort of car.
But not. They'll do budging.

(01:02:29):
No, I don't know. Tomorrow out.
Mercedes AMG One. You're right.
I didn't know that was 2023. It's two years now.
Bloody hell, time flies. Yes, when you have fun.
All right. What was the name of the the
torque vectoring system used in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X?

(01:02:51):
Matthew. Matthew.
Active your control. Not what I thought.
I thought it was that, but it's not what it's saying.
Is it the Avcs? On the right track.
Dang it, that's all I can remember.
AVCS. Do you think anyone that's owned

(01:03:12):
an EVO on this on this show? So you should I own one that is
true. I haven't owned an EVO 10, but
I've. Only with the Super select the
Super select two all. Drive in all close so it's the
Super all wheel drive controls so it's the S dash AWC.
So it does have the word super in it .5. .5 to Ed Yeah.

(01:03:36):
I'll take it, I'll take it. Oh Jesus, a close game.
Mad on 1.5, Audi on 2.5 and Ed on 1.5.
So we're down to. I reckon we'll do two more
questions here. Which company developed the CARB
emission standard in the US? This is a really stupid one.

(01:04:02):
It's called the ARB Emission Standards in the US.
Company started. It the company not, is not an
auto vehicle company. So I can tell you that.
So that's that's a clue and it'sdeveloped on the in the western
part of the US. Through California.
Yeah, a vehicle company by the looks of things.

(01:04:24):
So the emission standard developed by.
I reckon it's too difficult that.
One Is it smog? The smog.
Well, this is, it's all related to that and it's actually looks
like some sort of EPA, but in the US and there and there's a
special, there was a name for him it's called CARB and, and,
and, and that's what CARB standsfor.
So it's California ARB, CARB, which is acronym for who they

(01:04:50):
are CARB AIR and then it's RB. Gemini.
No. RB Regulating Board.
Oh yeah, you're on the right track there.
California Air Regulation Board, that's what I would have said
that. So I'll give you .5 if no one
gets closer. California Air California Air

(01:05:14):
Rights Association. It was actually a resource
board, so I'll give it to Bill. I'll take that.
It's a crappy one. It's I just thought, you know
what, I'll throw it in there. The last question.
So wait, let's go. Mehdi on 2, Scotty on 2.5 Ed on
one point 5C anyone? 'S game.

(01:05:36):
Anyone's game really. So what was the exact bore and
stroke of a Honda KA or sorry K28 engine?
So what's the exact bore and stroke of the Honda K28 or K20?
It's a very hard. This is probably the hardest
because we've ever had, genuinely.
The reason why I wanted this like is because I thought Dave

(01:05:56):
would be on today, but he's not.So all right, No, no one don't.
I'll give it, I'll give it 28 mil bore and I should know,
sorry, not 28 engine, I'll say. It's a square bore. 54

(01:06:17):
millimetre bore let's. Go to closest.
Too. I'll go, I'll go 54 millimetres.
I'm going to go 86 millimetres. Ed, you're right.
Really. 86 on the dot. 86 on thedot well.
No, take that wait. Wait, we've got we've got a tie
breaker here and Maddie, I'll figure out.

(01:06:39):
Your I'm done. I'm done.
Jeez, these are tough questions, aren't they?
They're. Very tough.
This is the toughest. I'll do I'll do I'll do a real
easy 1. So that way we'll get it over
and done with. It's it's a this car thing.
This car brand sounds like it could be a three pointed star in
disguise. That's a crippled Ed.
Oh, in disguise? I was going to say the Sanyon

(01:07:01):
chairman like that's a Merck in disguise.
A3 pointed * is the clue in disguise.
Oh, first time in disguise. It runs, Yeah.
Go on. Everyone's gonna have my bad.
No, I'm out. But I'm just trying to think
what what what it is because it's it's between.
It sounds like it could be a three pointed star in disguise,
so that's a cryptic question. This three pointed star.

(01:07:26):
This is again, you know, again. I've got an idea now.
I've got an idea. No, you can go.
That's that's all. Right.
Now, Scott, I think Ed had a go at it.
Yeah, I had a go. You.
You have a go first. Oh, OK.
And then we just go back around again.
Yeah, I'm going to say Mercedes. No, Mercedes is the three point

(01:07:46):
star. Yeah, it's a clue.
Edward, your hand. I was going to say like
picturing the physical star, youknow, in disguise.
Could it be like a like a Chrysler that sort of got 5
things on the star? You're on the right track, so.
It's not Chrysler then. OK, the the tumbleweed goes

(01:08:07):
across the Yeah, I thought it was an.
Easy 1 to it's it's easy becauseI see it, because I I I know the
answer, but. So picture you picture the star.
What would disguise the star? You know more.
It's more a three pointed star sort of star.
It looks like a three pointed star, but it's not.
It's it's in disguise. So cryptic.

(01:08:28):
All right, tell us, Rob all. Right, there's a the three
diamonds Mitsubishi. Oh yeah.
All right, let's go another one because we've got to break this
tie this. Well, this one's a hard one too,
but I'll, I'll read it out. This car's brand name could be
mistaken for a musical instrument.
If you know your musical instrument to anyone.
Well, I know some. Yeah, you know a.

(01:08:49):
Few. Oh, I, I I I know, I know this.
I know this one, but I can't sayit.
Why? Because.
I'm out. I, I you say it or go to another
question. I've got plenty of questions.
How? Why are you?
Out. Why are you out?
Because I Because I It's you between the vibrator.
Oh, it's me and Scott. Sorry.
I thought it was being you. All right, Scott, let's get down

(01:09:10):
to business here. I don't know.
Piano. No.
Guitar. So it's not a common instrument.
Glockenspiel Was it a car being.Called bongo drums.
Well, there was a master bongo. There was a master bongo.

(01:09:32):
Yeah, that would have been a good one.
So it's not that the brand name, the brand name brand.
Name give up. Yeah.
Lancer. What's that like?
That. Well, that's the what's.
The musical instrument? That's a Lancia.
Lancia the Lancer is a is an instrument.
Is it? Apparently this brand could be

(01:09:55):
mistaken. This brand could be mistaken for
a precious metal. That's an easy one.
Gold, Gold. No.
Precious metal What? Was the what was the question?
So this car brand's name could be mistaken for a precious
metal. OK, I'm running through precious

(01:10:17):
metals but I can't think. And it and it could also be
mistaken. This also sounds like it could
be like a name of the Roman God of speed.
So it's the same same car. So the the brand's name sounds
like it could be a Roman God of speed or mistaken for a precious
metal. Scott, just give it to Scott,

(01:10:40):
right? It's Mercury.
Mercury, yeah. Mercury.
All right, I'll do a real easy 1so I can just the first one in.
First one. This car's brand name sounds
like it could be a fast feline. Yeah.
It's got. There we go.
What else, Scotty? Scotty on 3.5 wins, yeah.

(01:11:03):
Well done Scotty. Anyone here to thank Scotty?
It was. I tried to make it harder, but
because that was just something too easy.
If I went anyway, it was probably too hard for a for a
Tuesday night. Yeah, but I'm never listening to
your quiz again, Rob. I know I I feel bad.

(01:11:24):
Can't deal with it. Don't feel bad, it was good
anyway. Thanks.
I like some of the questions in that I I can't even, I wouldn't
even thank myself. It was just I was.
Surprises of limitation this time.
I wouldn't even thank myself forthat.
No, no. I just think, I just think it's

(01:11:46):
over. Thank you, Rob.
That was good. Annoying because once you said
them I was like Oh my God. Yeah, how could I be so dumb?
Yeah, I'm just thinking of like precious metals.
I'm thinking of like, oh titanium silver.
Mercury. I was like, oh, it's Mercury, it
has to be Mercury. I'm like, surely they're going

(01:12:08):
to get that. But anyway, I'm.
Glad you were out Maddie, because he would have just
blitzed it again. In the end, I would have got a
few of the last ones. What on Scotty?
So you you've thanked nobody. Rob, thanks for doing the quiz.
Let's I think that's a podcast generally.
Let's get into some plugs. Rob's doing it.

(01:12:28):
He's firefighting, electrical, all the above.
He's doing it. Rob's doing it.
Edward Bunting. Anything on what you want to
plug? Yeah.
Rio for sale 2017 Ford Focus forsale 2004 prices Bedwood.
Both have done the same case 34,000.
There you go. Very good, Very good.
Rio 17800 drive away. You want to pay 5990 drive away.

(01:12:50):
I don't want to pay Scotty Golf to be the week.
And golf to be the week is a lotof people moving to their
hybrids using the hybrid clubs these days.
They're freezes. Very, very fashionable or
something. If if you're having complete
trouble in hitting these hybrid clubs like I am and I can't use

(01:13:11):
them at all and I prefer to use my extremely old 3 iron, have a
look at utility irons. They're they don't all normal
clubs go down to about four ironnow, so you don't get anything
lower, but now they're called utility irons.
So they're your utility. Utility iron in a three and even

(01:13:34):
a 2. If you are.
So if you're still happy with your longer irons and you picked
up a hybrid because everyone else did and you can't hit it
for shit like me, after just so many times I just can't hit this
bloody thing. Only once once have I hit one
good shot with it out of like somany so and then I just pick up

(01:13:58):
my really old 3 iron and just and smacking them all.
So yeah, have a look at those utility irons.
Utility. Technology in them, yeah.

Something I like with work, yes.Definitely.
Over. Do they do you nerd noises?
Yeah, absolutely. Let's do it.
We work it when we want to do the want to do the blade.
Yes, we're going to do the bladeas well .2 yes, absolutely.
So I'm thinking. Of talking in Japanese when you
press some buttons. It is ecado how's?

(01:15:07):
Scottish. It's got to do with the IT says
I, I swear it says every time. If you start it up first thing
in a new day, I swear it says what day it is or something.
It's got nothing to do with the ETC card, because the sound's
not coming out of that, it's actually coming out of the
speakers. Maybe you should pull.
Like ETC cards because it's separate.

(01:15:28):
Yeah, I'm gonna, I really want to because it sounds like it's
something different almost everyday.
I'm like, she could say that last time, but there's a volume
button that's on the ETC card that you can press and that
doesn't, that doesn't come out of the speaker, that it comes
out of the actual unit itself. That's why it's like 2 separate
things and like what are you seeing?

(01:15:51):
So these are the answers, the questions we need answers to.
So you need to you know. Yeah, I need to know.
Well, these holidays we'll do, we'll do the blade and then
we're going to do we're going todo one of your cars, Rob as

Yeah, doing with headphones on though.
Yes. Really.
What's even better, it gives youthe fizz.
The fizz. Oh, OK.
Yeah. And how's all right, Jenna?

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
