(00:05):
There's a professional. Radio.
That's front wheel drive. Have you got anyone you want to
thank? Just myself and now I do the
after hours, gentlemen. What would you go for?
They see us in. There OK, and because it's not a
(00:28):
super duck, it's not automatic. Perfection comes in the form of
2 letters A&U. Long away of my Ltd.
Robin a car so I guess choose iton here in nine April 9 NW FM
It's me, Maddie J in the studio by myself tonight.
I know Alan here but online withMr Scottido Johnson, Mr Edward
(00:51):
Bunting and Mr. David Prince. How are you, gentlemen?
Very well, Thank you. Hello, everyone.
Yes, good. Hello.
Doing well, thank you. It's.
Good. Good to see you guys.
You Matthew, I'm doing very well.
Thank you, Edward Bunting. Very.
Cool, it's good. Good to hear.
Doing very, very well. As good as good as I can be,
Edward. As good as it can be so.
It can be good. So yeah, that that's, that's
(01:13):
always good. Let's crack on with some car
updates. Edward Bunting.
It's been a while since we've seen you.
Yeah, a couple of weeks. You've been in the abyss.
Yeah, been on on Tuesday nights, but car updates, where were we
last time I sold a few things. I don't think I've been on since
I sold a few things. So the Ford Focus, the little
33,000 K hatch went on car sales.
(01:35):
I put that on and marketplace. I first couple of days nothing,
you know, very quiet and I thought I might have this for a
while and then all of a sudden, you know, bang, bang, bang.
You know, a few decent enquiriescame through sort of all in one
hit from both mediums at cocktails and and a bit of
Facebook. And yeah, first to see, we'll
buy, you know, a guy from the country bought that as his
(01:55):
little run around and I actuallydrove it down to sort of Seaford
and met him there near his relative's house and handed it
over and got the train home. Oh, wow.
The only problem was slightly before that, I'd been at the
Wrecker getting a, a grill for the CRV that is currently in
stock. And so I was carrying this big
grill and I thought, oh, I'll just have to carry that on the
train. My friends were laughing at me
(02:18):
when I was talking to them on the phone.
Like, so you're traipsing aroundSeaford station with a grill in
your hand. I'm like, that's right.
Yeah, I'm guessing. I probably didn't look at a
place in Seaford. You know that's how they roll.
Was that one of the fancy news stations?
No, this is a very old station. Oh, OK, no, very old school, but
(02:39):
but nice. I like the amenities there.
There was a cafe nearby that I, I did dine at prior to getting
on the train, so I sold the Focus the next day.
I sold the Kia Rio that I had instock, the little 17 Rio with 35
KS on it. That was very fortuitous.
I really, I had a couple of enquiries on that, but not as
much as the focus. And the guy that rang me up on
(03:00):
that, he's, he had the exact same car that had just been
written off and he's just replacing it.
So, oh really. And except he's a dump, double
the K's. And so that worked out quite
nicely. I was like, Yep, you can have
it. What else did I have floating
around? I've well the CRV has been,
we've talked about that I think on the on another podcast.
(03:21):
So I'm driving around in that currently.
It's had a new windscreen in it.The Wasp Verada has had both
rocket cover gaskets done and the distributor seal done.
It's had a wheel alignment. It's had a new windscreen
yesterday. So it is looking and I gave it a
Washington. It's looking pretty good, pretty
(03:42):
good. It's it has developed, I think a
leak from the left hand steeringrack boot.
So we'll see how we go with that.
It might need some more surgery before it gets a road waiting.
I just was like, oh, I'm in so deep with this thing now I just
have to keep going. Just you can't, you can't stop
now. You know, I drove the Moke
that's oh that had its new fuel pump fitted by my Moke friend.
(04:06):
So I paid him some money to comeand do that.
So I drove that on the weekend in sunshine.
So that's that's, you know, driving as well as it ever did.
However, it is leaking reasonably from I think it's the
rear main seal because it's coming out of the hole in the
bottom of the gearbox and the rear main seal is the only seal
up above that. So yeah, the mocha, I had a look
(04:29):
at that and because there's a little puddle on the ground and
I was like, oh, it doesn't usually do that, but it it is
now. So I was hoping taking for a
drive would sort of, you know, reseal the seal and you wouldn't
need to pull the motor and gearbox out.
But yeah, it's yeah, like you can still drive it.
It's just it's just got a half decent leak.
So it's joining some of my othercars that have got half decent
(04:50):
leaks. Leaky Friends.
Leaky friends, as, as you say, David Prince.
Safety feature. Safety feature.
Anyway, that's that. I still haven't pulled the
petrol tank sending unit out of the Merck coop.
I've just been dealing with these other things, but I'll get
to that this week, I think. And the and the the Wasp will go
in to have its rear bumper and mirror caps painted this week as
(05:13):
well. Maybe tomorrow morning I'll drop
that off in. Yellow.
In. Lalo CRV.
I did put the said grill from the 20 that it was carrying onto
the CRV. Replaced the front fog light on
the CRV with the one I got from the Wrecker.
What else? I think that's it for con news.
Actually, another box of parts arrived for that today.
(05:33):
Another three parts. I thought that all worked.
What you picked up the other day.
Wow, but another another box arrived with, I think sway bar
Ling Well, I'll. Be needing those, David.
I'll be dropping him in tomorrow, Edward.
Oh, thank you so much. All right, you're coming past
Anyway, I'll. Be in the area.
Oh, good, good. OK.
Thank you. Was that from Rockauto David?
(05:55):
It was. What are you?
I had AI had a delivery from Rockauto this morning as well.
Big our new best friends. Very nice.
They've always been good friends, I know.
I know. Love it.
I did a job for a workshop in Melbourne the other day and they
had a Lexus SC430IN. Oh.
Yeah, electric hardtop roof thing that looked a bit like a
(06:17):
bloated Porsche boxer. Yeah.
Yeah, I remember them. They and he said, oh, you know,
the guy got one of the seats done in this car and said, Oh
yeah, that's fine, I can do that.
He said he's throwing some moneyat it.
I've just given him a bill for 8grand.
Oh my God. And he's doing that.
I said, oh, the Bush is gone, everything's gone.
And yeah, they're so hard to find bits for.
(06:38):
I said, have you ever tried a place called Rock Auto?
I don't know what you're talkingabout.
Oh, I don't buy parts from America, You know, I don't, I
don't want to do that. They'll be the wrong really.
One of those today's selling America compared to here.
I mean, they would. They saw bucket loads over
there. I so I said I will.
Yeah, that's up to you. Oh no.
So and so from Peters source me something or rather.
(07:00):
It is the worst. You know, exactly.
So yeah, I just thought, OK. Who is this this customer?
Will remain unnamed. Oh, OK moment.
But but yeah, I it's it's not worth, you know, what's that
expression? Casting pills before swine, you
know, like it's just yeah, yeah,we know that.
(07:21):
We know where to go here. Try and advise and educate
people the right thing to do and.
But unless some people don't want to be educated, so that's
all right. Hey, more.
Yep, like you, I mean, it's all but also too like, you know, us
plus gentlemen, we're we're kindof in the fray.
Like like what we we know where we can, we know where we can
(07:41):
get, you know, decent pricing from and, and how to get parts.
But like, but there's some there's some mechanics that just
like like I can't get it, sorry mate, can't do it.
Can't get it mate, can't do it. Can't do it.
Am I pretty? That's what we said.
Am I pretty? Ada can't do it.
Yeah, yeah, COVID. Boys, it got COVID.
I can't. What's got COVID?
(08:01):
That's. The line.
That's the line I get so. Yeah, but anyway, so yeah, so
that that's your car updates Edward wanting.
That's me, Yeah. No more for me.
We're also joined by Rob Zdai. How are you, Rob?
Rob Zdai, how are you all? Good mate.
Thank you. With the CEO in it just started
(08:23):
car updates. David Prince updates with you.
OK, get this right. OK, we're getting this.
Yes. So Ed.
Seen it I don't know any of you others have seen it.
I I had my garage an 85 Honda Accord hatchback belonged to a a
good friend of mine. We found a new car I'm I've been
(08:44):
offered to help get rid of the other one.
So I thought, oh, I'd better check day for a roadworthy.
That car has is 40 years old. It's done 105,000 KS for
roadworthy. It needs wiper blades, a clutch
rubber. On the pedal.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, A.
Rubber on the on the on the clutch pedal.
(09:05):
Yeah. Oh damn.
One more thing. What was the?
Other thing, one more thing. It'll come to me.
It'll come to me. One more thing.
So, so insignificant. It's it's ridiculous.
Wow, Sorry. And and an engine wash because
it they recommend doing the rocket cover, the sump and the
dizzy seal. That's fine.
(09:25):
I can do that. They're simple, you know.
Yeah, I can also then paint the the rocket cover, but how's that
for? A 40 year old car.
Oh, so they recommend doing it, but you didn't have to do those?
Things no, no, that weren't thatdidn't have to do the ferro to
it, but they'd want they'd want the engine washed out.
I can tell there, there's, there, there is an oil leak
somewhere, but obviously that leaking oil on the ground.
(09:47):
So no, no, that's right. Yeah.
It's a safety feature. That is.
Very good. I mean, it's been very well
serviced that carpet. As we know, servicing doesn't
equate to being roadworthy necessarily.
Correct, correct. So if if just give me the report
yeah and it's 3 items that are required for road.
Oh damn, I'll have to look on myphone in a SEC what the other
one was. But but yeah, I just thought
(10:08):
that was nuts. Yeah, yes.
I. Was all ready to, you know, bang
onto rock auto again and try andyou know, find if they've got
anything for 85 accords, which is, you know, getting will be.
Even need. To find any, yeah, but but yeah,
I thought that was pretty impressive, very impressive.
Absolutely. Yeah.
That's that's, that's remarkable, actually.
(10:29):
I don't know what the what the thing for what the regulation
around the age of tyres is. I think they're about 7 years
old, the tyres on this. Oh, that's fine.
That's fine. Yeah.
And then of course, they've doneno K's.
You know, they've it's only done105 in 40 years.
So, yeah. So yeah, I thought that that was
(10:50):
pretty cool, I thought. But still no no sale on that car
yet through the. No, no, no, we've I've still,
still in need. But you know, I said, well look,
I'll check, check and find out what it needs.
Yeah, yeah. And and just so we wear forearm
just forewarned, you know, and then we know what we've got to
do. Yeah.
So when I picked up the 88 accord from the neighbours
garage, I mentioned that one. That's that's gone to have start
(11:15):
to have the work done on that wewould.
That's also a Rockwell order because they sold a gazillion of
them over there. Is that running?
Not yet, no, no, there's a couple of cars ahead of it, but
that's in, it's in the, it's in the queue.
OK, cover. That's the main thing.
But but because that we extracted the car out of that
garage that I had some lovely garage space.
(11:35):
So I negotiated to have two carsin there.
I was in there one. Or two.
So the Grand Prix Civic is in there and the N1 because they
were the easiest to sort of pop over there, but unfortunately
they're not living there and I didn't have access to the
garage. So now the cord's been dropped
down to I think the 85 cord was in the garage.
(11:58):
So now that's been was going down on Monday.
On Sunday afternoon I I saw my neighbour was at the house so I
quickly messaged him and said ohyou know, should get those cars
out of your garage. He said, Oh no hurry at all.
I said Oh well can I? He said you can leave them here
as long as you like, we don't need the garage.
And I thought oh oh oh, and thenI thought I missed the M1.
(12:19):
I want to drive the M1. Yeah.
You know you need a key to the garage.
Just get a key I. Haven't got a key to the garage?
Why won't they give you a key? You met them.
Security. Security is very important.
Of course. Is it OK if I just get?
One out and leave one in there said yeah, no problem at all.
So he used the key, open the garage.
I got the N1 back into my garage, yes.
(12:40):
So now I've got it back and all is right with the world.
I feel the world feels a better place.
But if I want to take the the Grand Prix for a Fang, we've got
to wait for the planets to align.
Correct, correct. But they will, they will.
I mean, he's there most weekendsand he said anytime, just ring
me and I'll I'll come over and, and, and and he's he's out, he's
in there the same suburb probably, you know, for 2-5
(13:02):
minutes away. Is that, Oh, OK, not hard, but
but yeah, I mean, I don't want to just, you know, disturb it
anytime, but there could be, youknow, if there's a chance of a
long term. Long term rental is what you
need there. Erect anyway, so that's good.
Oh and I was working at a E dealer in the eastern suburbs
today at the Honda dealer, Eastern Honda and I was working
(13:24):
on a car which was actually a cherry, which is a bit of
concerning. They're now cherry Doncaster as
well as eastern Honda. So I was working on this cherry
and this guy came home and said,oh, what are you doing?
A mechanic guy, Asian fellow. I, I I thought incorrectly that
he was Chinese because it I said, oh, you cherry tech.
He said, Oh no, no, no, no Honda, Honda tech.
(13:46):
I said. He said I'm Japanese.
I worked at Honda in Japan. Well, wow.
Did you really? He said yeah, yeah, yeah.
So he said I love Australia and I've come and I've found this
job and I said, oh, you know, doyou, you like Honda?
Oh, I love Honda. I said, what do you have?
Did you have, do you have a Honda?
He said, Oh yes. And he has a first Gen Civic Rs.
Oh wow. Oh.
(14:06):
Wow. And so you gotta yeah, show me
all the photos of his dark metallic green first Gen city.
Rs with a boot. 2 door with a boot.
That's a special car that's. A That's a really interesting.
Car area Serious 1 And I said, oh, I have I have a Honda.
I have, well, I have a few Hondas, I said.
He said, oh really, I'd love to.See them?
(14:27):
I said. This could take a.
While yeah, just. Stud scrolling.
Yeah, there was lots of Sagoy going on.
It was. It was very.
Oy, that's. Oy, it was.
It was a very funny. He liked your Hondas.
He did he was very impressed andhe's I saw the N1 and the and
the scamp together. His eyes nearly popped out of
(14:48):
his head. It was silly.
It's funny, you didn't put this with what was in the phone, you
know, didn't sort of figure thatwell, you.
Wouldn't, I mean you're driving a Volkswagen Caddy repairing a
Cherry. And I look like sort of go.
That guy's into Hondas. It's not, you know.
Correct, Correct. So yeah, it's good to hear.
It's like the time I was on AI was on a Zoom call with a work
(15:12):
colleague in New Zealand. Well, a loose work colleague,
this sort of, you know, sister company sort of thing.
And I'd met him on quite a few calls.
He's a young guy and he's 20s sort of thing.
And he's, he's got a Porsche andsomething else.
He's quite into his cars and he's imported a few from Japan.
And somewhere about the third phone call, I'm.
I'm there with a mutual colleague and, and this guy
(15:32):
goes, he goes, oh, you know, you're a bit of a car guy, Ed.
You know, you went to cars. I'm like, I suppose you could
say that, you know, he goes, oh,do you, do you have any cars?
And I said, yeah, I've got a few.
Oh, well, what have you got? And I just went and I got this.
And by the time I got to sort ofthe fifth one, he's just like,
like looking at me like, yeah, Ithink you're a car guy.
(15:54):
And. I was like.
Thanks for the accolade, but very same sort of thing, just
very, very funny like we just hadn't talked about that topic.
So it it. Didn't come up.
Hadn't come up and he's like, what?
Yeah. Yeah, we're not car guys.
We're just hoarders. Yeah.
Collectors Collective. No, no, no, no.
(16:14):
Rob. You're creator.
I've got to correct you. We're not hoarders, we're
collectors. Hoarder collect everything
collective they collect. We just like car stuff and cars
so. I'm particular even about what
cars I will collect and car stuff, OK, you know, a hoarder
who sees a bit of plastic in thestreet and goes, oh, use that
(16:34):
one day, you know, and and sort of way at their house and they
have goat tracks, you know, to walk through the house through
goat tracks. I've gone down that deep hole,
Rob. I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm holding onto
that, that explanation. Yeah, OK.
All right. Just as long as I don't see our
garages. We all have our guilty pleasure
(16:57):
garage. Yes.
Absolutely we do. Well, who are we?
Up to so I think we're up to Scotty Scott.
Me, before I jump into my updates, I noticed David you
were away last week. From the podcast.
Yeah. True.
Was. I no, no you.
(17:17):
No, you weren't. That was it the previous week.
Previous week The previous week the.
Previous week, Where were you? Oh.
Scott, that's a bit personal. David can't talk about his
mistress live on air. I was at a car club committee
meeting. And you're the president.
(17:40):
Oh, that, That was the yes, yes,I was elected the president
again. Congratulations.
Yeah. Congratulations.
Oh, congratulations. Or, well, it was I had.
Someone on there? I had someone on the inside that
was there and was listening in to some of these policies and
(18:01):
things that you want to bring in.
It's pretty radical. Oh, so to start off, he wants
everyone to call him El Presidente.
I don't know what's going on there.
He he wants stickers and caps made up that all say make Hondas
(18:21):
great again, which was odd because I thought they kind of
are great anyway, so I don't buthey, he wants everyone to have
those and wear those everywhere. It's the.
It's the it's the MAGA. It's Maha.
Yeah, it's. MAGA.
Yeah. Sounds like the name of the
Middle Eastern restaurant. Yeah, it does.
It's it's my grandma. It's my auntie's name actually.
(18:45):
Denny's got you need to bring offerings to your leader every
medium. Wow.
It's a. Preferably Honda related or
Japanese related things so you got to bring offerings to him as
well. It's too.
Kind of weird the. Power has gone through his head.
He has. Certainly.
Runk with Pete. But he's thinking about keeping
(19:07):
people fit, so on Fridays he's bringing in Jazzercise Fridays.
Which would make sense because fit in Japan.
So there you go. Yeah, that's.
Right. He wants to bring in some
Jazzercise Fridays and bring in the Accord Accord, a binding
treaty that all disputes in the club must be settled inside a
(19:30):
Honda Accord like. Yeah, there's.
There's a few things that he's doing so.
And that's just the prelude. Yeah, because wait.
For his final concerto. Yeah, where are they?
Made in Kyoto. Kyoto.
Where, where, where? What made?
The Hondas, the main ones. They're not in Kyoto, sadly.
(19:53):
Yeah, I wish they were perfect city then, wouldn't it So.
So that's just a few things thathe's been up to now, right?
I'll keep you posted if there's anything else new happening.
Scotty snitches at it again. Yeah, it's.
He's back, ladies and gentlemen,he's back.
(20:15):
In a while. Have you been working on that
one all week, Scotty? I thought of it a while ago, it
just came back to me today. David Prince, your comments
please. Yes.
Comments No comment. No comment.
Solid. My people will get back to you.
Yeah. Oh, to have people, that'd be
(20:37):
great. He's got his little, he's got
his little minions now he can just like he can just do things.
Yeah, You know, not much changes, I don't think, but I
think I was doing the same stuff.
I. Guess I can move into my car
updates now. Yes, I had my fun on Sunday.
I did. I did something that brought the
(20:59):
weather today. Oh, I washed the car.
I did, silly. Me, I washed it.
Silly me, don't bother. I wasn't going to.
But I've got this. I'm pretty sure it's a first
world problem, but there's this tree at work and even if I don't
park near it, pretty far away from it, but somehow I still get
(21:22):
like SAP that will drop on it and also it's starting to bloom
and gets covered in pollen and stuff on it too now from this
tree. So it's just kind of bugs me.
So I've. Parked away from the tree.
I did. I parked away from it.
It still happens. I don't know how it's getting
(21:44):
over there. It's.
Just. Drives me nuts.
But yeah, first of all problems I guess.
I mean, my solution is to chop down the tree, but I don't think
they'll do that well. I.
Mean, I mean, I mean that let's be honest, that's like the, you
know, that's the mainly solution.
Just just just just get rid of it so you can.
You can definitely do that. Yep.
(22:06):
And then I thought I'd better goover and see how the 31's doing.
It's just sitting there chillingand I did have an idea of what I
wanted to do and that was actually fix that side mirror
properly because I was going to get the tech screws and put it
in there properly because it's where it snaps.
It's all plastic and plastic sucks and it gets old and I just
(22:32):
got completely sidetracked, which happens quite often and I
completely forgot to do it. So it's still kind of sitting
there and not really held on very well.
I ended up just kind of letting the car run for a bit and
fiddling around with all these other things.
And I got that thing, you know, I told you last week to for the
(22:53):
fenders, whatever it's called, Idon't know, I can't remember
what it's called. Guard Roller.
Yeah, Guard Roller. I don't know why I keep feeling
it. I keep getting Fender stuck in
my head. Fender's like American all.
Right. Well, Fender, sure, yeah.
Yeah, I'm like, what the hell? But anyway, that stuck in my
head. And then I opened the box and I
say you got to assemble the whole bloody thing.
(23:14):
I'm like, what the hell? And then the instructions isn't
even like instructions. It's just a picture.
You know when you get the it's when you get a picture of say
the brake calliper and stay expand it like break it apart so
you can see all the different part numbers for all the bits.
(23:37):
That's the instruction was that.So I've got to try and decipher
this in the expanded form and shrink it down.
So realise and figure out what part goes where because none of
the parts bolts and that were labelled.
So it's gives you a picture and you go OK and then you see it
(23:58):
down the bottom and it just sayswhat it's called, not the length
or anything. And there's like multiple ones
of very similar lengths. What the hell that was?
That was quite fun. The whole the grill.
What the hell is that? Yeah.
It's just so stupid, the picturethat they gave you.
(24:20):
That's a nice looking car roll. Why doesn't mine look like that?
It's all upside down and wonky, just like, what the hell?
That's not going to roll anything.
It won't even roll down my driveway.
So that that was that. But I finally did it.
And then by the end, I just put it in the passenger seat for
(24:40):
now. It's like, that's another day
now. Yeah, I've built it.
I'll roll it out later so then Idon't have to worry about the
scraping and stuff anymore. And then I was driving home and
I realised, Oh yeah, the whole reason I was going there was to
do the side mirror. Yeah.
(25:00):
You need a list in your phone. You do.
Yeah. Yeah, I thought my brain was
good enough, but it gets distracted too easily.
ADHD. The gear boot sorted.
No, not yet. Not yet.
Zip ties. Yeah, I like that idea.
Thank you very much for that. That is what I shall do.
That's you Scotty Rob. Updates with you.
(25:23):
Well, my colleague went to Noosafor holidays.
She used her house up there and she had to get rid of her car
and it was a Golf for convertible and she couldn't get
rid of it so she gave it away for $200.
Wow. And it had low KS on it.
They had just on 100,000 KS on it.
It was, she was the second ownershe's had it from.
(25:46):
You know, I was like 2 years oldwhen she had it.
The only thing it needed was a set of tyres and some brake pads
and she got rid of it for $200.00.
So I missed out on a bargain, I thought.
And that's a what year? What year was that?
That's a 2003. Convertible Golf.
Convertible Golf. So that looked a bit round and
blunt, yeah. Yeah, they were a nice looking
(26:08):
car, Yeah. Yeah, when they had decent
wheels on them, the factory wheels were too small, but.
So I'll, I'll be kicking myself for not, I'm missing out on
that. But anyway, obviously she didn't
let me know, she let everyone else know, but I wasn't in the
meeting that morning. So anyway, missed out on a car.
Yeah. The Voxy.
(26:29):
You're probably better off without it, Rob.
It was a manual too. Oh, that's a shame.
Yeah, I know. Anyway, so I'm still driving my
Ranger around. I went for a trip down in
Geelong in my Ranger, my Ranger Sport.
This is about 12 point somethinglitres per 100 on the highway,
which I'm not very good I thought.
(26:50):
Thirsty girl. Did you feel that anger starting
to kick in? No, not yet.
No, no, that's OK. It's all good.
Has your. Case manager gotten back to you.
Anger comes from Ranger. Renga, oh Renga, renga.
I don't feel the anger from the Renga, but I've been driving
that around. It's it's actually in the right
(27:11):
car. It doesn't make any noises.
There's no diff noises, no squeaks.
It's it's it's yeah, quite comfortable to drive.
But went to get the Mercedes outon the weekend, the the 380 SCC
to so the guy can start paintingit, but he still hasn't done
(27:33):
anything. So that's pretty much my
disappointment with cars this week.
What about the transit? What happened to the transit?
Well they said they replaced thediff twice and and when I got
third time. Storm winds when you decelerate
between 95 down to about 70 kilometres an hour.
So you can. Hear that whirling noise as as
(27:53):
you let go of the accelerator and they reckon that's normal
because I I've removed the barrier so I can hear it and if
you'll put the barrier back up Ican't hear it.
So I said, well, if I put earplugs in I won't be able to
hear it either. But that that's still there.
They reckon it's no just that's typical of that car and that's
what they do so. But you're going to sell that
anyway, yeah. Well, I'm not happy with it.
(28:14):
So yeah, I'll end up selling it.Yeah.
I'm. I'm not going to fit it out.
I need to have problems with it,yeah.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so and the diff slips when
it's cold, but they reckon it's not the diff, the gearbox slips
when it's cold. And they're saying that the the
the gearbox is usual with intolerance of slippage when
it's cold, and that's fine. That's that's a joke.
That's ridiculous. Don't worry, that's not normal.
(28:38):
It shouldn't slip. It's a gearbox.
They're not meant to slip. Yeah.
Yeah. Well, it does.
It's probably a variable transmission or something.
You know, it's one of those you.Yeah, Nissan gearboxes in it or
something, I don't know. I think you need a Toyota, Rob.
Yeah. Toyota don't make vans that
size. I think I'd have to go.
(28:59):
I. Assume you they don't make they
don't make the high roof vans and I want a high roof van that
I can fit out. Hyundai Staria.
You know what, I've actually went to Jayco a few weeks back
and I saw a Fiat sunny year and a half old.
It's sorry. No.
(29:21):
No, don't do it. No warranty.
Yeah, no, it still doesn't make it good.
Brands that had a warranty too. Yeah, it doesn't make it.
Just go buy a good. Car, yeah, but if you buy a good
car, you've got to pay three times as much as they're not
necessarily good sometimes. Not being a tight ass.
Or buy a second hand camper van. What with 200?
Well, with three 400,000 kilometres on it.
(29:43):
It's all right. Land Cruiser.
Land Cruiser 100 will do 809 hundred a minute.
That's. A Land Cruiser.
That's not a camper van. That's a that's a $4.
There's good camper vans out there.
Surely there's one out there that's already been done.
That's good. Yeah, and then you're paying
130,000. Then you might as well buy a new
one for 1:50. All right, I've got a better
idea, Rob. I've got a better idea.
Stop. It stop it.
(30:04):
Stop fighting. It's just disgusting, David,
it's. Disgusting.
It's not a fight, it's it's a constructive.
How about this, you drive your 380 SEC and you stay in motels.
That's a bummer. King of the.
Woods. Yeah, we're right.
So out in the middle of nowhere,we're going to sleep in the 380
SEC. In the motel.
(30:25):
You stay in the motels. You don't always have motels
well. You don't want to be staying on
the side of the road. Anything could happen, people
could come and attack. Yeah, like in Wolf Creek or
something like that. OK, OK. 380.
Motel, there's your answer. All right.
Or 380 with roof racks. Factory roof racks.
(30:47):
You can get them and the the hard shell rooftop tent like
I've. Already got the rooftop box for
all 10. Done.
Done. Done.
Done. That it looks you shouldn't.
That's. Sick though, a cars and coffee
would win cars and coffee. Yeah.
It's like having a 911 Porsche with the the tent on the roof,
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Exactly. All right, well, I've got some
(31:08):
ideas now, so I'm. Ideas.
Get something more reliable and. What a caravan just by going by
5 Grand Caravan. Look at the Acton caravan
around. What sort of caravan are you
going to buy for five grand? You can get in.
You'd be lucky to find a 6.4 trailer for that price.
Marketplaces. Yeah.
You just dung a caravan on the Ranger and you're done.
(31:31):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, true, true.
I've got the the Ranger Rock I Ican steal off my son you.
Can, yeah. And that's, that's actually not
a bad car that's been going realgood.
He's he's clocked up more close to 40,000 KS on that in two
years I reckon. Oh wow.
OK. And you know, touch wood made in
Africa. And yeah, it seems to be going
(31:55):
all right. So yeah, I'll I'll see what I
do. But if I could sell it, I'll
I'll sell it. But it is handy.
It's great to have a van. I really enjoy having a van.
You could just go down to the Bunnings and put your strips of
timber in. When you're doing a bit of a
Renault and you know you pick upall your stuff around the house
and take it down its hip and it's so handy, it is one of the
(32:16):
best things around. You know, with the K truck too.
Or K truck would be awesome. 4 wheel drive one.
Yeah, yeah. Not awesome on the highway
though. Yeah, I know.
But you know what? It's the the journey, not the
destination. OK, I'll give you a call 4 hours
into your trip up to Sydney and see how you go with that.
(32:39):
Get Me Out of here. I want my 380 SEC with the
rooftop down I. Was I was OK with the Jimmy,
even they got blown around down the highway, but my wife, my son
hated it. I liked you in a Jimmy.
I thought you in a Jimmy was wasall right.
I thought it was all right. I didn't mind it.
I didn't mind it. You can't have, you can't have
too many cars. I've got, I've got.
(33:01):
Currently I've only got 7 cars in the driveway and another
three inside. That's just enough.
Surely one of them will take youaround Australia.
That's right, Amarok. Yeah.
There you go. The Ranger.
Oh, C 63, I think I might take your C63.
Yeah, do that. Yeah, I reckon that'd be
awesome. Expensive.
(33:22):
Get there fast. Yeah.
There's not enough fuel across the null where you'd have to
carry fuel. Oh.
His car's pretty good on fuel, actually.
Is it? Yeah, it's not bad.
I've got like at 12 speed. Oh, if you start going fast, you
start spurning. You've been cruising along.
I think it does less than 13 litres.
Is it Harley? Yeah. 30 litres per hundred,
(33:43):
Yeah. Yeah.
It's not bad if I guess for thatit's not too bad.
It's not bad for AV 8, all right.
Matthew, what about your cars? What are you doing?
Yes. All right, so updates with me.
I got my Camry roadworthy yesterday so it is kind of
roadworthy and we get plates on Friday.
(34:05):
Who are you going through Club Bridge with for that?
Just the the standard one that Inormally go with.
Oh, OK. Because I haven't don't have a
Hyundai in my name yet, so I can't go through the Hunter
Club. Very.
They've got very strict rules and President would uphold that.
Mister El Presidente. Yeah, exactly.
Thanks, David. Lucy Goosey.
No more ballyhoo. Edward, you.
(34:25):
It's because of you. The rules change from what?
I've heard. That is true.
I broke the system, you did. So, yeah, that's going to get
done on Friday. So Mom's actually got a day in
lieu. So she's she's going to do that
for me. So thanks mom for for that.
Going to take that down. Yeah, look, it didn't need too
(34:46):
much. They were actually, you know, it
was, it was quite, they were quite impressed with, you know,
with the car that's up for so long that it didn't need super
amounts of work. The bill got the bill.
You know, it wasn't the cheapest, but it wasn't
expensive. It wasn't. 1800.
No, no, we knew. It was 1200 it.
Was 1100 bucks yeah so that's that's including getting my air
(35:08):
con fix too so there's I got freezing called air con what's
up so air con fix. What was wrong with the air con?
They just needed a gas like likethey, they bought the guy out
and the guy tested, had no leaks.
He's like, he just just needed agas.
So I think they converted it from one to the other to like to
the new gas and then yeah, so did that.
(35:30):
And then obviously all the little jobs that are needed and
yeah, yeah, it's good driving it.
The auto air control valve is not great so on a cold start
doesn't really like one of thoseso they'll have to get one of
those at some point. I ordered a new.
It's needed cleaning because mine just needed a clean.
They cleaned it out, but it's still.
(35:51):
Not OK. Yeah, it's still not all right.
And, and, and they said that to me.
They're like, well, we can cleanit and, and they did, but it's
not great. But I've got a new, I've got a
new dizzy cap and rota that camein today from the States because
you, you cannot buy them in Australia anymore because that's
just, but it's also, I ended up buying 2 rotors because my,
because when they took my distributor apart to replace the
(36:13):
seal they, they gather once overthey said, yeah, you need a
rotor button because it's pretty, it's pretty hard.
It so that's got, well, I've gotto put that in.
I can do that. That's, that's, that's not,
that's not too hard of a job. What else?
What else I need windshield, which which got done.
And then yeah, yeah, it drives, it drives really, really well.
Like, you know, it's, it surprised me how good that car
(36:35):
drives. I drove it home last night after
picking it up and then I drove it today to drop it off to my
mom so she can get it sorted forFriday and it just just wafts
about really nicely. It's you know, it, it drives
really, really well. I had to put a thermostat in it
as well, but I do, as I said mentioned last week on the show,
I need, I need, I've, I've ordered hoses for it.
So heater hoses and radiator hoses, just because they're
(36:56):
really old and crusty and decided to show a bit of
staining and he's like, look, weput new clamps on it.
It'll be fine. But for your peace of your Peace
of Mind, just just put some new hoses on it just to just to be
safe and you know, happy, happy motoring essentially.
Nice. So I've ordered those through my
work. They, they had to get custom
made because they don't, they don't carry them.
(37:16):
So like you just tell them whichones and then they'll, they'll
make them for you. And so they're, they should be
here at some point this week. But yeah, apart from that, it's,
that's ready to go. And I'm going to take it for a
nice burn on Saturday to The Wreckers somewhere.
I haven't decided yet, but I'm going to give it its first
christening of a bit of a drive to Danny Nong so.
Pick me up on the way. Yeah, sounds good.
(37:38):
Sounds good. Anyone.
You're more than welcome to comein there to come in the Camry.
I also got my Camry chicken. If you guys remember from the
from the from the old Camry ads,the you order those.
Yeah, I found one online. Well, a good friend, Andrew
Roosworth found one and now he'she's got he's in a seat belt in
the back of the car, so he's. I've got a feeling indeed.
(38:00):
I got a feeling, I got a feelingchicken.
It's even got on a Toyota Motor Motor Company of Australia and
then, then underneath mainland China.
But but still, it it's, it was, yeah.
It's, it's a genuine piece from the late 80s, early 90s.
So, so yeah, I think that that'sa nice little kind of addition,
getting it ready for classic Japan, which which Edward, we
(38:21):
can talk about tonight because you weren't here last week to
discuss. I wasn't here last week.
Matthews had this silly, harebrained idea of parking our
three Toyotas in some sort of group formation.
Oh, there'll be 4 with Andrew Wigglesworth.
He's in. Oh Wiggles is in.
OK, so 4 Toyotas to recreate a showroom circa 1989, I think so,
(38:44):
you know, my Tarrago was still the shape in 89.
The the Camry Matthews Camry's just got tick.
The MR2's an 86, so I know 8888.Yeah, 88.
So that that sort of fits in. And what's wriggles is 1 the
Camry waggon. Yeah, yeah.
Is a 90 or 91 maybe. I think it's a 1, might be 89.
(39:06):
89 or 90? Yeah.
Yeah, yeah. So.
So we could we could have those four in a bit of a formation,
but then Matthews going a step further and wants to, wants to
have a sign on the front of eachcar that says the dealership
name, which is of course Ed Matthews Toyota.
I mean that that fits, right? Absolutely.
And actually I when he said it, I was like, it actually sounds
like a dealership. Yeah, it does at Matthews
(39:28):
Toyota. Yeah, I've.
I've made, I've made the logo there.
That's. Really.
The logo? Yeah.
And, and then I said, well, if you're creating a bit of a
dealership, we've got to put up some flags, so we have to get
those. And then I said, well, you need
the Ming mole, you know, someonewho's going to have big 80s hair
and sell you window tints and stuff.
It's sort of a desk. And he goes, yeah, we'll roam
(39:50):
around dressed like sales consultants in like, bad grey
suits with thin ties. And then and then George with
long socks. Yeah, yeah, shorts, long socks
and then Steph is has agreed to be our aftercare consultant.
He has get wear a big wig. With a low cut top and and and
(40:11):
promote the window tints and thepaint protected and this is this
is all happening when December or November sometime.
Last day in November I think it is.
It's yeah, last Sunday in November.
November OK, so it's being held. It's at a different place this
time, isn't it? The Cruden farm.
Cruden farm, yes. Down at down Murdoch's property,
yes. The 30th Sunday the 30th of
(40:33):
November. Cruden Farm, Well, that will be,
yeah, a joyous event. It'd be fun, like we're going to
try and put some table like, youknow, a couple tables and some
pot plants and. I reckon big rub couple of big
rubber plants from Bruffy. Yeah, rubber plants.
Yeah, you might have to arrange that.
Matthew Bruffy doesn't probably want to deal with me anymore
(40:54):
after last time and some of his plants didn't make it back to
the nursery. Oh, OK.
Yes. Not my fault.
OK, I will. I will figure something out
there. So yeah, that is that.
That's the idea. So, so Ed Matthews Toyota, it's
it's got it's got a ring to it. I think it works.
(41:16):
I think it sounds like a like a dealership.
So, you know, if it's got a motor, bring it to Ed Matthews
Toyota. Is that our slogan?
I think, I think we can make that work, sure.
It's got a motor. Bring it to Ed Matthews Toyota.
So, yeah, so and I've just been collecting some paraphernalia
and stuff. So I'm planning to like do like
(41:37):
photocopy some of the some of the brochures and things of the
of the cars of that era. So kind of make it look.
You have a brochure giveaway copies.
Correct, yes, correct. So so that that'll be that'll be
part of the event. So yeah, it should be it should
be a bit more fun, but more details to come on that as it
happens, gentlemen, I can prettymuch get on my car updates,
gentlemen. Yeah, tonight's topic.
I know Edward loves these. Who bought that new is a, is a,
(42:01):
is a topic that that we're becoming quite, you know,
familiar with. I know, I know Edward's a bit
bit of a, you know, not a stereotyper, but a stereotyper
in terms of who bought that. Yeah, extreme personality.
Vehicular Profiling. Correct correct.
I I thought they all started following this guy on on
(42:21):
Instagram because he's he's actually he's a he's a car
dealer himself, but he he like profiles all these all these
customers are coming there and and he's like, yeah, you you
want this car you want for this and a best price of course yeah
and he. Just yeah.
So it's it, it got me thinking like we haven't done it in a
while. So so we're bringing it back.
So the first one I'm going to bring today is something someone
(42:42):
that part of the crew has he's done on tonight is a Ford
Territory Turbo. So they were quite expensive
when they were new. They weren't, they weren't
cheap. Like when I remember when we
were looking at at Territory andI was like to that I'll just
wait for the turbo, what's coming?
Wait for the turbo. We waited for the turbo and then
he freaked out how expensive it was.
He's like, I don't need a turbo.What for?
(43:02):
What do I need this for? And I'm like, yeah, but it's,
you know, it'd be faster. So then he proceeded to say, no,
we're not buying that. And because and it was quite a
substantial amount of money morefor a territory gear.
How much more was it like another 10 or I think it.
Was almost 10 grand like it was it was quite, it was quite
considerably expensive. I think it was five.
It was it was close to 10, I think from memory.
I have to double check that. But it was a it was a big jump.
(43:24):
It was a big jump to what? To, to my dad's gear.
So. So that was Yeah, you know,
again, there's another step up from.
That where do you stop? You got to stop somewhere with
this stuff. So.
What year did the turbo come out?
O 6 is when is when the turbo came out.
So who bought out of like I meanit was they didn't sell many of
(43:46):
them like that. That's actually quite a rare
car, even more as the F6 territory which is like good
luck fighting one. But who bought them when they
were new? I mean, I've got my idea.
Well, it surely would. Have been someone who had an XR6
turbo Falcon, you know, but needed the extra room you know,
(44:07):
had a maybe or two Yep Yep, you know got to get the seven
seater. Yeah, that is true.
And but they didn't want to get out of their Fords.
Mate, Yep, I'm with. Dick.
Yeah, I'm with you on that. I think they would have, they
would have said, you know, I really like this drivetrain or,
you know, and I'm and I want to stick to stick to a Ford.
And but I also, I think the typeof person that bought a
(44:28):
territory turbo also liked to kind of drive.
I think because territories didn't drive like you stand at
SUV like they they drove like a like a car.
Yeah, correct. So I think, you know, I mean, I
remember seeing on a lot of a lot of people, you know, in some
more affluent areas having them when they were new.
And I had a customer come in and, and he'd just given it to
his son. But the, but the dad was, was
(44:48):
like, he was like, you know, very well to do, man.
He's like, and he had some really nice stuff.
And he's like, yeah, this has been my daddy for the last, you
know, 15 years. I've owned the car and, you
know, I bought a new best car I've ever had that you you've
got on on and I'm like, and thisguy's got Porsches and stuff.
I'm like. And the fact that he was saying
in the territory turbo was, was a bit, was a bit, you know, bit
kind of surprising. He's like, oh, I'm giving it to
(45:09):
my son. Yeah, I'm I'm with you with on
that one. David Prince.
What about you, Ed? Oh.
I think it the buyer would definitely be a bias towards a
male buyer. I think, you know, out of
suburban somewhat cashed up tradie type, you know, it may
have been, you know, the partnerthat drove the car, but I feel
(45:33):
like it was the husband who chose the car.
David Prince is on the money these he probably had a history
with Fords and yeah, you know, you're not you're not getting
someone jumping over from holding necessarily to that.
It's probably a probably a Ford history and and maybe maybe
wanted the XR6 turbo with the XR8.
(45:53):
But but oh, you can't fit the family.
So hey, here's this is a perfectthing, and it's a bit of
something for everyone. Bit of a compromise.
Yeah. Shane from Wheelers Hill.
Let's see what have bought it. Yeah, a cashed up electrician
trainee. Yep.
Age. Age 45 and up.
Yeah, Yeah, well, maybe a bit younger.
(46:15):
Age maybe 38. Yeah, spot on.
There he goes. So Scotty, would you agree with
that, that that doesn't type of person?
I bought 1. Yeah, I was thinking, I, I can't
picture a business person in one.
No yuppie would be in it. It would be mainly towards you,
a cashed up tradie probably as you said, it could be.
(46:39):
I could easily see a family, a dad that's just all of a sudden
figured out that his wife has got twins on the way. 6 turbo.
He looks outside and goes, oh Exo 6 Turbo has to go and makes
that beautiful compromise because all of a sudden he sees
on TV the territory Turbo ad do.You guys remember that ad?
(47:03):
That was a great ad. It was like eating sports cars
for breakfast. Yeah, Yeah, that's right.
Yeah. That was a great ad.
Imagine a mileage on those things that would have been
fantastic. That guys are like you wouldn't
believe. Yeah, they weren't exactly fuel
efficient. Rob, that's what Turbo Terry
says. It's a gun.
Absolutely, but again, he puts his foot down a lot in it so.
(47:24):
Yeah, it. Doesn't make a difference.
Put a jet ski on it and it's even worse.
Didn't they come with a jet ski on the back?
That's right, they did. Pretty.
Much standard. Yeah, Yeah.
Standard accessory jet ski at the back.
I want to add to that. I also think, you know, the
people they would have bought that because like territories in
(47:46):
general were kind of bought by everybody in in in They were
very popular when they were knewand like a lot of old couples
bought them to tow their caravans and things and and you
know, so but they always bought like your base TX or TS.
But yeah, in terms of like like the turbo specific model.
Yeah, I think you guys are rightbanging the money.
Someone that had either had an excess turbo had to upgrade or
(48:07):
wanted to buy a car for the misses that when you know, you
could, you know, drive on the weekend.
And yeah, I think I think that'sa great a great choice.
Next one who bought a velocity turbo?
Lost single mum Single mum. They're quite propsy.
I don't think single mums could afford a velocity.
(48:28):
Yeah. They were married.
They're single, they were married, they got a payout
payout. And they went, I'm going to go
and buy a sports car. Yeah.
And they went and got a Velocityturbo turbo.
And it's really cool because it's got 3 doors, of course, for
my kid. You know, it's like a coupe in a
sports car, but it's still a hatch.
(48:48):
It's still practical but really sporty and you know, no one
knows what it is and I really like that because I'm individual
and so the car needs to represent me 100.
Percent. Absolutely.
What's there? You go, you bang on again.
I no wonder why you sell cars. You know your target,
Democratics. And what's her name?
(49:11):
We've got Shane in the territory.
What's Sally? Sally.
Sally. And where does she hail from in
Melbourne? Coburg.
From COVID, he didn't. He didn't even.
He didn't even flinches. Like.
COVID What colour did she buy? Yellow.
(49:35):
That's funny. No, it's yeah.
The, the velocity turbo, it's, it's an interesting car because
it's it, I think it's, it's a car with a bit of an identity
crisis one, but two, it's not really a sports car.
It's it's kind of like a warmishhatch.
Yeah. You know, it's, it's, it's not
even a little hot hatch in, in, in the the grand scheme of
(49:57):
things, but. I think the same buyer that
bought that later would have bought the Hyundai Tiburon
before that. That's.
Correct. No.
Oh, you reckon Tiburon? Yeah.
Tiburon, yeah. They trade it up to the Tiburon.
Yeah, they now. The Tiburon is.
Before the Veloster. Yeah, that's what I mean.
They traded up to sorry to the Volts.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, they took the.
(50:18):
They they really wanted like a what was this oaf?
I got Salika the last of the Salikas.
They they really wanted Salika, but their trading was appalling
on the. On the 2 words they went back to
Hyundai and got a Veloster. I know a person that bought 1
brand new and she Veloster, the Veloster Turbo brand new.
Yeah, she's a young professionalsingle.
(50:40):
Yeah, no, kids bought the dual clutch one because, you know,
she she thought it was a bit of a sports car and then that got
written off recently and now she's bought a a new Kona.
But but the the Veloster was it's.
How would you explain this? It's an ugly bucket of shit that
no one should buy. Yeah, besides that it's, I just
(51:01):
feel like it was a car that was made for people that just
didn't, that wanted image over over care.
And. And that's that, that car
personifies that. And, and people who want an
image, look at my, look at my fancy Veloster with, you know,
with three like 2 doors on one side.
And you know, they, they wanted to, to have that, you know, that
kind of impression. But it's not really a good car.
(51:23):
Like it's, it's, they don't really do anything well.
But in their defence, I mean, itwas, it was an interpretation.
It was like it was. There are lots of other
manufacturers doing the same thing, you know.
Absolutely like. Package that was deemed sporty,
but it wasn't particularly sporty.
Correct. Like it it for me, you know, I'm
I'm thinking of who they would have marketed it against and
(51:44):
like Ciz comes to mind. But then again, Ciz was a bit
more ticky in the form of like. Hybrid, yeah.
Hybrid Yeah. So, so I'm like, well, it wasn't
going into that. The hot hatches of the time had
moved on. So like there was really, you
know, like your GT is and stuff were a bit more pricey.
Your Polo GT is and stuff were abit more focused.
(52:05):
So like it kind of was in a league of its own really.
It was just kind of its own thing.
Yeah, but but they sold tonnes of them.
Like the the you know, and and you 99.9% of times you see a
woman driving, which I'm not stereotyping or anything, but
but you know, it is, it is the case.
So so Sally from Coburg bought abright yellow Velocity Turbo.
(52:28):
Yeah. So Edward and Rob are on board
with that, David. We're in agreeance.
David, Scotty. David, you agree?
I can't say no to that. I would have thought that that I
would have thought the name might have ended in Ian like you
know. Marlene, Arlene, Charlene or
Marlene Raileen, Raileen, Raileen.
Yeah, that. But but I'll, I'll go with
(52:48):
Sally. I'm happy to.
And I I the only other thing I'dsay is that she might have
ordered in red, not yellow. All right, I.
Would have said black. All black.
OK. Oh.
Yeah, yeah. All right, who's the next man?
What? What's the next car?
Well. Next one is what I've just
bought. Who bought a Camry V6 when they
went in and in my eyes I think they were all old people.
(53:10):
I think the president of the Bowling Club would have bought
1. Correct, correct.
I wanted the Crusader in a dreamscenario, but just no need for
the size, you know? This is basically all the
features of the Crusader in a bit shrunken down and a bit more
modern because oh, not necessarynear sorry, no, 89 was 89 was
(53:32):
the new crusader, which was real.
That was beautiful, glamorous machine, but they would have
just gone, which you just just don't need the size of it.
So let's how about we go to the V6 Camry and it's fully
imported. You know they would have.
They would have banged on to their neighbours about it being
fully imported, whereas the other ones are made here.
Yeah, that's right. You know the.
Fully imported Japanese one that's the better one that's.
(53:53):
That's the, but like it still did.
Like I remember, I remember thisyears ago when I, when I was a
kid, my dad was trying to get insurance for, I remember this
phone call like it was yesterdayand he's like, I don't know what
it is. It just says V6.
But, but I think it's an Ultima because it's got all the Ultima
stuff and the, and the, and the lady on on, on Amy, he was
speaking. He she's like, she's like, I
don't know what it is. You have to bring the car down.
So we had to drive the car down to their head office in in it
(54:18):
was in a Preston at the time andthey didn't even know what it
was They come out and with that, with that, you know, their
their. Book of Cars.
Yeah, yeah. And their, their clipboards and
they're looking at they're like, yeah, we don't know what this is
like. It was, it was, it was the
weirdest thing. I remember sitting in the car,
It was, it was a bit of a familyhousing.
We all went it We all went. But.
Seriously, a glasses guy back there didn't have it logged, but
(54:40):
like, yeah, so all right, so you're you're you're president
of your of your Bowlers Club whouse his retirement.
I didn't want the size of the Crusader.
Doing pretty well for themselves.
The Captain. Yeah, yeah, and but wanted to,
wanted people to think about being sensible with their money,
but you know, went for the expensive one because most
people wouldn't have known. That's right.
(55:01):
And you know, wanted to buy Australian made, maybe support
the industry even though this one's imported.
But yeah. Yeah, yeah.
So it was all it was a bit a bitfor look's sake, you know, like
he wanted to look on the down low, but he wasn't prepared to
forego that the nice little extra features in the what can
T. Find the.
Control on the cruise, control on the power windows.
(55:22):
Yes, yes. Yeah, totally opposite.
It was sales Rep and their man had a Camry back in those days.
Yeah, but not this one. Not.
Not not the top of the line V. 60 no, this, this is the top
line V6, not this wasn't a salesreps car.
No, no, the base can be made here.
The sales reps car, absolutely. Wow, yes.
(55:43):
But not not the V6 sedan, right?Rob, were you at, were you
working a Toyota at that time? I was working a Toyota at that
time, yeah. Do you?
Remember what do you remember when they were?
New The Rock should know I do I.Remember going out in the
company cars on on Friday night doing a few skids were.
(56:05):
They good times. And these were the guys in in
the office too, so they're the ones who got all the cars.
They're the ones who brought allthe cars home all the time.
Did you only ever drive the the plain Janus?
You know the four cylinders. Yeah, pretty much what was made
here. Yeah.
Yeah. So stuff that we used to drive,
they used to give out to the, the the managers and and no cars
(56:28):
within the plant, Yeah. Yeah.
Because that, that's the thing, you know, these things never
went near the plant. You know, they, they came in and
went to deals and sold. And there wouldn't have been
that many like that. It would have been pricey and
they wouldn't have, like we said, week, I think they're 31
grand, I think new. Which is 10 just like.
A10 grand more than a than a base model.
Camera than a base yeah it's it's it's a lot.
(56:49):
It's it's another third of the car again to get the V6.
So I'd I'd love to know how manythey ended up selling here, but
I don't think it had been that many.
No, I don't think so either. What about you, Scotty?
Yeah, definitely. Someone that was the owner of a
Bowling Club and you know, you'dsee on the back parcel shelf
(57:11):
will be his hat and box of tissues will be there too.
Absolutely. That's what I can.
That's what I can. Picture Frank Sinatra and Billie
Holiday tapes, maybe in the console.
Yeah, definitely saying, you know, I remember 8 tracks, but
you know Dean. Martin Dean.
Dean Martin. Yeah.
Good old Dean. Martin.
Yeah. Who wants the luxuries?
(57:34):
So went for the top of the range.
And you don't need 3 litres, so they went 2.5 litres in in your
because 33 litres is too much for a for a for a car.
Yeah, that's ridiculous. In the crusader, so you know,
but you still want a bit of overtaking power when you're
when you're on the freeway and you know, you, you get 2V6.
But here's the question. Mitsubishi sold a crap tonne
(57:55):
more varieties of, you know, similar era, you know, well,
early 90s, you know, which is, which was a pretty much a
similar size. But they always marketed that
car towards the, you know, the professionals, you know, in
their in their suits and things. But every time I saw one being
driven, it was by it was by an old couple as well.
Do you reckon that was the same demographic for that car?
(58:17):
I think verada. Well, I had more of AI.
Think Verada had a younger demographic.
You know, Verada was a bit more edgy in the styling and a bit
more contemporary because, you know, you didn't have Veradas
in, well, you didn't have them in 89.
No, you didn't. It was still only Magna, and it
was Magna Elite was as high, as high as you went.
So Verada only came in with the next shape in like 91, I think.
(58:42):
And that's close. Yeah, it was Verada 92.
Yeah, late night like, sorry, no, Late 9119 into 92, yeah.
Yeah, that's right. Dave 91 I was there, I remember
and the I think it was just sucha really cool modern swoopy, you
know, what's the word I want sort of, you know, sinuous
(59:03):
design or something. The, the little SV 21 Camry with
AV6 slapped in it was pretty boxy and old and conservative
that had come out in 87. And so, you know, this is 5 five
years newer or 4 four or five years newer.
And Verada was sort of a, a bigger, wider, more luxurious
car. So I think, I think it appealed
(59:26):
to younger people. I think it would have been real
conservative buyers buying that Camry, yeah, versus a Verada
buyer. But I think to the the the
Mitsubishi, they they would looklike more Shopkins, Padme,
Commodore and Falcon. Yeah, given the size of them,
the relative size of them. Which is what spawned the wide
body Camry. But but in 89, you know, there
(59:49):
was no wide body Camry. There was no Verada, you know,
it was you're in those smaller sort of more petite cars.
And I think I think too, if anyone was looking at a top of
the line Magna Elite versus yourCamry V6 mat, the size of the
Magna, the interior space of theMagna maybe would have won over
a younger demographic. The Camry Camry is probably
(01:00:12):
bought by people who who didn't mind the narrow body or the the
the slightly less leg room and stuff.
You know, well, I want to. Add to that.
Mix of the home apps. I'd say so, David, I'd say hence
the older demographic. Hints had left home and we
didn't need. We came out of a Mazda 626 from
(01:00:33):
83. No Kingswood.
No Kingswood. Outside in 89 Kingswood buyers
were still buying Commodores. They were in a VN.
We answer Molina. No, I think they had a Kingswood
from new and their kids have hadkids and they're like they
wanted to downside. So I think I'm with you, Robin
(01:00:53):
now, and I think that's that's agood point.
But I want to say that the Magnaslash Varada always had like a
cool factor in comparison to a Camry.
Like cameras have never been cool, like ever.
Which is, Which is I? I hate to say it, but it's true.
Yeah, a bit daggier, yeah. Yeah.
So, you know, whereas I think, Ithink that's where the Varada
(01:01:13):
kind of, you know, and and the Varadas always looked good like,
you know, like a, you know, likea first general, first general,
you know, preface. I mean, face it, you know
Varada, they were a good lookingcar.
Like they, they still are good. They're they're quite handsome.
You know, it's whereas a Camry just always kind of, you know,
you kind of just OK, well, I mean, what did motor V6 have
like a different, different front of rear, you know, bars
(01:01:36):
and A and a lip And again, that's pretty much what if and
some badging. Otherwise you wouldn't really be
able to tell. So I guess, I guess they did try
to to differentiate them a little bit more in that
instance. The last one for this evening
before we get to the car quiz. Is.
Is who bought a a Holden Monaro when they like a like the the
(01:01:57):
remake Holden Monaro in 2000 and2001.
Too well. That's easy, you reckon?
Oh yeah, I. Reckon it.
Was it was, it was your massive cashed up bogans and they were
frothing over that. As soon as that came out, they
were, they quickly sold all their SSS and got rid of those
(01:02:21):
and like, oh, go straight to a Monaro.
It was your FIFO workers. Yeah, people and hands on it.
Yeah. It was your other, your other
collectors that like to, you know, I guess you're a little
bit older demographic that collected your special editions
(01:02:42):
of, of cars and things. And when they saw that kind of
Monaro jumped on it, it was yourones that probably reminiscing
when they might have had one when they were younger as well.
Yeah, you know, could have had the HQHK, whatever it might have
been back then. Move from that point of view.
Yeah. And kind of saw, oh, new Monaro
(01:03:02):
Bang jumped on it. So I feel like it's more than
one demographic that jumped on it.
Now remember, this is a world cartoon.
Yeah. So this got sold in the in the
UK and it got sold in. America.
It was a hideously. Chevrolet or Pontiac over there?
It was a Pontiac in, in in the the United States of freedom and
(01:03:22):
it was a Vox Vauxhall in, in in the UK.
And but I think in each of thosedemographics, they were all
different buyers. So like I, I don't think in in
America, you know, it was sold to invert like a redneck over
there, you know, like a like ourequivalent to our burger.
I think, I think that they were more marketed towards, you know,
(01:03:44):
a bit more of a driver's car because like at the time America
couldn't. Get through the American stuff
that will probably. It's a great driver's car.
Yeah, yeah. And, and then and that's what,
you know, I remember what ratingI think it was.
It wasn't, not the icoker, it was Bob Lutz.
He, he tried to bring it over there and it was a big, there
was a big catastrophe about bringing it over there and, and
(01:04:05):
you know, and it wasn't, it wasn't a big seller, it wasn't a
great seller rule, but in, but in the UK, you know, it was, it
was marketed as like a like a cheaper, you know, version of
like a like a MMM three or something, you know, a lot more
powerful for a lot less money. So I.
Think it did well. Sorry.
I don't think it did well in England and America because I
(01:04:27):
know America didn't like it because it was under the Pontiac
GTO name and they didn't want toborrow of it.
And then it was Vauxhall VXR. And I think the Vauxhall name
isn't that great over there. And they're all kind of, I guess
(01:04:50):
European snobs, which you would be because I mean, it's the
prices over there aren't that bad compared to here for what
they can get. And they just stuck with their M
threes and things like that. Then going for a Vauxhall
because of the the name. A maid of my son in law is John,
(01:05:15):
who lives over there. G'day Sean, if you're listening.
Hi, Sean. He loves.
His VXR all. Right.
OK, he's got one over there. Yeah, yeah, he loves it.
It'll. Be a Yeah, it's, I mean, it'd be
like nothing else on the road there really.
Because like, they didn't reallyhave anything else that was that
was similar. And I remember Top Gear used to
love them and they used to rave about them.
Over there. Yeah, they did.
(01:05:35):
Yes, you. Know and they're like why would
you buy anything else when you can buy this for 1/4 of the
price it does everything those can do but better.
So yeah, they they do always get, they always got a good rap
over there, but they were never, they were never a big seller in
my memory of when who who boughtthem when they were new was
because I remember Africa. I graduated primary school the
(01:05:56):
first year that came out, I believe.
And the one of the graduation cards was a bright yellow
Monaro. And the guy that got out of it
was a full gym junkie tatted up.But like, you know, like full
tanned, you know that kind, you know, you know what I'm talking
about. The ones that have moved into AM
(01:06:16):
GS now, correct? The ones that are, though,
absolutely AM GS, you know, yeah, he's sold his.
He's no longer he's no longer part of that fraternity.
Edward Butler, but he used tatted.
Anyway, that's another story. And yeah, it's yeah, I always
remember, I remember standing next to him and looking up at
the guy and the guy was like 400feet tall.
(01:06:38):
I'm like, Oh my God. And he got out of the he had to
like hunch out to get out of thecar and he's just standing
there, like with his arms, you know, like to the side like
this. So they were kind of for me that
like that's the person that thatbought that car as as as my
memory would would serve me. But anyone else for that one or
that are we moving on to? That that that colour was called
(01:06:58):
Yellow Devil. Very well, Yellow Devil.
Yellow Devil So British Leyland also had a 70s colour called
Yellow Devil. There you go, here you go.
Everything old is new again. Now I've got one more we can do,
which we can do real quick. Who bought to the five people
that actually bought one in Australia?
The first Gen Honda Insight. I can answer that no one.
(01:07:19):
That is correct. They really struggled.
They actually loaned a lot of them out to to councils and
stuff to, you know, to trial to hybrid vehicles because it was
the first hybrid that went on sale in Australia.
But. What was it like a week or two
weeks or something? It was like, it was like some.
Be the Prius by a couple of weeks, but the But yeah they
(01:07:43):
they sold so few of them becausethey were about $55,000 only a
manual and a two seater so. Yeah, and a hybrid, you know,
technology people weren't familiar with, so very niche
market. Very niche.
So yeah, I think in total they sold 47.
I think as I had this discussionwith someone the other day who
(01:08:04):
has two and is 1. And I, I actually contacted
Honda Australia, my contact there and said, you know what,
I, I know you're not into buyingcars, but it would be remiss of
me not to let you know this has come up for sale because you've
actually used it in marketing and with your push on hybrids
now, you know, like with the. Talk about how you did it in
(01:08:27):
2000 and whatever. Correct, correct.
Good story. They were very they they thanked
me profusely and said we will discuss this and get back to you
so. So, well, OK, so they sold 43 of
them or whatever it was 44 of them.
They sold a lot more in Japan and America.
They actually, they were quite popular in America.
(01:08:49):
And for me, they were like the people that bought them were
like your, well, I I don't thinkthey were your celebrity types
because they all ended up in Priuses like your Brad Pitts and
Angelina Jolie. 'S.
They. All ended up in Priuses, but I
just couldn't picture who actually forked out the money to
buy to buy one because like you,you know, the hippies bit of
(01:09:10):
commas went went always for a Prius like like no one.
No, I can't picture who actuallyand I don't know what he bought
them, but like who actually would have bought?
Well, in America, I think the people that bought them were, I
think, I think hippies is is a good, good, good example.
People who were environmentally minded because it was a hybrid.
(01:09:31):
They looked like nothing else onthe road except a citrone.
My friend, friend of the show David Days got 1.
He he always gets people saying,oh, is that a Citroen?
No, it's not a Citroen because it's because.
Of the spats, it's because of the wheel spats.
Yeah, that's right. And and, you know, it had more
than a passing resemblance to a CRX if you squinted, you know.
(01:09:52):
Yeah, Yeah. There was that sort of thing
about them. But one of the biggest, the most
popular restaurant renovations of them in America is putting
AK-20 in them. That's good quite an industry
putting a the two litre K seriesengine in them.
Wow, They go very well with thatbecause they're all aluminium.
They're actually built on the same production line and in the
(01:10:12):
same factory as the NSX. Oh really?
They were I. Think he would have bought that
new would be Nigel from Fitzroy. He's an engineer, but in a very
niche sort of form of engineering.
He was coming out of something maybe like a first Gen Prelude
(01:10:35):
with the wacky dash or somethingand tipped himself into an
Insight because it it really wasadvanced in a way that a lot of
other cars weren't. And Nigel's single collects.
Clocks and restores. Spare time and the Honda Insight
was his vehicle of choice because it's good for getting
off the back lane way into his Fitzroy garage.
(01:10:59):
He's living in the house that he's his mum used to live in and
he's done a minor extension sortof on the back of that, but he
engineered it all himself of course.
What about you, Scotty? That's just brilliant.
I'm signing with Ed. I love it.
Gradually engineer. Do you want to know what ChatGPT
(01:11:20):
says for this? Oh well, I typed in who bought a
first Gen Honda Insight. The first Gen Honda Insight sold
from 99 to 2006 was a very unusual car.
So visor or a pretty specific group.
Here's who typically bought themthe early adopters of technology
who people excited by the end ofthe year of driving the first
modern hybrid eco conscious drivers, engineers and thinkers.
(01:11:40):
So you're on the money there, just not attracted?
Thinkers. Commuters bought as a purely
cheap to run communicar, especially with those long hired
drivers. You can run me spending 55 grand
to get it. You could've bought I know 5
grand. Like it's not cheap to bloody
run. And collectors and enthusiasts.
Because it was a quirky 2 seat hatchback with a tee drop shape.
(01:12:01):
It wasn't a mainstream success. You don't say.
Honda only thought about about 17,000 of them in the US. 17,000
they're doing better 17. 1000 inin the US, So I don't think
there was many like how many markets did it get sold in
David? Was it US?
Japan. Or yeah, they were sort of the
UK in the UK, Yeah, not, not a lot, I don't think.
(01:12:24):
You know, the whole thing of parts back up and all that sort
of thing would have been pretty extraordinary.
Actually. Having said that, I'm pretty
sure I've seen left hand drive ones in like, you know, France,
Germany, Netherlands, those sortof places.
Were they like quirky things? Yeah.
That is yeah, yeah, yeah. Would you agree, Rob?
(01:12:45):
I agree. I agree.
I. Agree.
I agree so. Engineer names?
What was his name? Nigel.
Nigel. Yeah.
It's Roy N inherited the house from his mom, did a renovation,
engineered himself. And he tells, he tells everybody
he engineered himself too, because.
He's and now he used to work foran engineering firm, but now he
(01:13:06):
lectures in engineering. Yeah, a few.
Days of Melbourne Uni hangs out with the academics.
Oh, I've got an inside, it's gotan aluminium shots.
It's the same production. Lines the NSX.
He won't let you forget it. And no, no.
No partner will go near him so it doesn't matter.
That's a 2 seater. It's.
Got room for him. And he's pet blue tongue lizard.
(01:13:29):
Interestingly, the there's one at the museum at.
I've broken Scotty. The blue tooth lizard.
The blue tooth lizard got. Me.
That's the best. Thing ever heard?
Yeah, she's called Phoebe when it was 30, not realising they
lived quite so long. Oh jeez.
(01:13:52):
Yeah. Anyway, I think that's a that's
a, that's another good renditionof who bought that new.
Let's get into the car quiz, gentlemen, shall we?
10 questions plus some bonus questions.
We're going to continue on from last week where we talked about
songs from car ads. So you need to name the the car
or I'll let you know if it's just the brand or the car and
(01:14:12):
the brand for two points. All right, so first one question
one, which car brand used the song?
You get what you give by the radicals.
David. David, I'd be in trouble if I
didn't get this Mitsubishi. It was Mitsubishi, correct are.
You. What's that?
What's that song? How's that go?
1/2. 1234 no look back. I got the dreamers.
(01:14:38):
That's the one, That's the one, that's the one.
I thought that was in another kind of company's ad.
It was a 2000s early 2. Thousands Black EV6 was in that
ad too. Yeah, yeah.
OK, party hours and when we haveMr Reelsworth on, we will ask
(01:15:00):
him to bring along his his acoustic version of that song
that he composed. Absolutely.
We'll. Have to Does he play that song?
He does it on the guitar and it's amazing.
And does he sing the words to that song as well?
So just an acoustic back backingtrack?
Does he sing words about Mitsubishi on it He.
(01:15:23):
Might well have put words to it by then.
Got the Magna disease. Anyway, moving on before we
move. Question.
Two question 2 which car brand and car used the song by Flow
rider called Good Feeling. Is this the low?
(01:15:45):
Wider. No, not no.
The artist is called Flow Rider. He did.
This How did it go? That song, How's it go?
How's it go? Well, sometimes I get a good
feeling. Oh yeah, I get a.
Feeling that I never, never, never sometimes.
BMW incorrect rabbits. They had a good one.
(01:16:09):
Actually, back in the day, they had a great one.
Anyone else guess? Take a step.
Take a step. The song and I can hear it, but
I just can't remember the car orthe manufacturer.
Scott, Rob. Nothing.
All right. What is it about?
We're all. Fattening, you guys have got no
idea. No.
(01:16:31):
Toyota Corolla. No.
Really. Toyota Corolla?
Absolutely they did. Sometimes they get a good
feeling. Question 3.
Question 3. Gentlemen, which car brand had
the song and Sorry and car had this used the song Thunderstruck
by ACDC. So think about it.
(01:16:57):
It's in the name Scott. Scott was in there first.
Jeez, there's two options that I'm stuck on.
I am going to go with the Was itthe Ford U?
Incorrect. David.
David. David.
The Holden Commodore Ute I believe there.
(01:17:19):
Was the Holden Commodore Ute 2 points?
To you though. That one my two options.
I should have gone with the. Other one there was a Thunder
version. A Thunder.
It was a. Thunder.
Yes, yes. Because Marlu is actually
aboriginal for Thunder. It means.
Thunderstorm or something? Yeah.
As opposed to Barlu, who was thebear?
From the jungle, yeah. Question. 4/5.
(01:17:45):
Which car brand had the song I see You Baby by Groove Armada Ed
with the car Ed. I know I see you baby.
Shaking that ass shaking that isit?
Is it Renault with that horribleMagan?
They had that in Europe, but notin Australia.
Oh come on, that's a. Point.
I'll give you a point, Edward, I'll give you a point, but I'm
(01:18:06):
off to an Australian one. That were last week.
Is this adding to it? Do you think the the back, the
background, the soundtrack or? I think we need the soundtrack
I. I I think, I think I should have
learned my lesson and brought that in this year.
Everybody out. Yeah, this.
Is the first Ford Fiesta we got in in in in Australia?
Oh. Fiesta.
(01:18:27):
It was the the ad was they had the engineers, they were in
their like their, their Oh yeah, coats and.
I remember that. Yes, it's.
It's quite a funny ad actually. It's it's very good.
Question 5 What Car brand which currently is on sale and the car
is currently on sale? How's the song Baby I Got you on
My Mind by Powderfinger? Baby, I got you.
(01:18:51):
On my mind. Great song.
Don't know. GD marketing is great, isn't it?
Yeah, guys. I mean, it's ridiculous.
No idea. Surely someone someone.
OK, Ed, I'll take a guess. Ford Ranger.
Absolutely for Rachel. Good news.
(01:19:11):
Wow, maybe it did sink in somewhere when I watched the
programme. Can't picture it.
Next one is the last one for themusic questions for the evening.
I think going to make a lot of people happy.
Which car brand had the song? I like the way you move by the
body Rockers, Ed Ed. Is that BMW it?
(01:19:33):
Was BMW they. Did.
And so I was there in that era, I think.
Well done, Like the way you move.
That's a good song. All right.
Score. Check.
David on three, Ed on 4. Scotting.
You. Have.
To score anyone's game. Anyone's.
Game question number six, the new civic Type R is sold out.
(01:19:55):
It's they've they've got they'vethey've finished their
allotments. You can't even go on their
website to get it, but they didn't.
But they did announce a price increase.
What is it now available at? I'll do.
Closest 2. I'll do closest to you.
I'll. I'll pay that, yeah.
I'll go. 80K. 80 grand, says Dave Prince.
(01:20:16):
I'll go 84990. 84990 says says Scotty.
Rob 81.9. 81.9 says Rob. 87 Six.Yes, that's a big jump. 80
seven, $679,000. So David is closest to a.
(01:20:37):
Quick, quick question on the type R, right.
So you had the the first of the new type Rs which is.
Yeah, that was that was 72. If yeah, but that was it like
five years ago or something? No.
Two years ago, 2023, that came. Out.
No, it was longer ago than that.2022 they were released but in
Australia we got them in 2023. From what?
(01:20:58):
I so, David, that Type R that I borrowed from you for the day
and it was raining and I drove around whatever, whatever the
press car thing. Yeah.
Was that only three years ago? 22 or 23?
Yeah, that was the older model. That was an FK 8.
I mean that that shape, it's still that hatchy.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
So how much? How much were they when they?
No, no, I mean, I mean that was the first of those hatchy type R
(01:21:20):
shaped things. No, that was it.
That was towards the run of the the end of that F, the FK 8.
The FL 5 is the current one which came out in 2003, but the
update has just been released. That's what Maddie's talking
about. Prior yeah, 2323 OK, no.
So so when when you say the words Honda Civic Type R and you
say 4 door hatch like the big body 4 door hatch thing.
(01:21:44):
Yeah, that. Shape.
When did that come out? Oh, 16?
Yeah. And then the they've just done
an update of that as we as we said and that's all sold out,
that's what you're saying. They've done a new model in
2023. Yeah, new model, yeah.
Yeah, new shape based platform and that update is just sold
(01:22:06):
out. Well, the update is.
Just sold out. But it but it is an ongoing
model like they'll bring in moreof them.
Or is that? I mean, you'd think so, but
it's. If they they like to keep the
the exclusivity around them. Yeah, right.
Yeah. But yeah, I'm sure if you waved
enough money at them, I'm sure you'd.
Yeah. It's.
It's not like the model stopped,it's just that they're.
It's more about supply. I mean, they, they are in demand
(01:22:28):
because they're one of the few, you know, performance cars you
can now buy with a manual gearbox, so.
Yeah, true. Actually, they're in demand.
My mom was. My mom was thrilled when she
heard about the price hike because her one has not gone
down, no. No, wouldn't have.
Wouldn't have. Especially with probably she
could make a profit on. Yeah, yeah.
Well, Honda, Honda did try to buy it back from her that when
(01:22:52):
she went for a dealer like like we'll try to get you into a CRV.
She's like, I don't want to see.Her.
She was. She was actually really annoyed.
She's. Like I bought a type art, why
would I want to say similar? They tried to get her into a
seat. They all have to get around and
tell tell that story. Question #7 According to the
(01:23:15):
Australian Bureau of Statistics, this has just come out recently.
They say a car is pinched in Australia every How many?
Minutes. ED-44 minutes as Ed is I'll give
closest to but. It's.
So here, let me give you one second, Scott.
Has seven. 7 minutes, says Scotty.
Rob, I'll go 3. 3 minutes and David.
(01:23:39):
I'll say 4.5. 4.5. The answer is. 11 minutes.
Oh, enough thought, he gets the chocolates there.
What up? But he's on the.
Book done, Scott. And he's on the board.
Question #8 According to Sorry, which model in the Honda lineup
has been outsold by Ferrari? David.
(01:24:01):
The Honda Accord. It is the Honda Accord.
Wow, that is a sad, sad thought that.
Wow, considering where that car was, wow.
Yeah. Not that long ago either, like.
That's not that long ago, yeah. When you price the car out of
the market, that's what happens,yeah.
(01:24:21):
People stop buying sedans because they wanted SUV's?
Or do people only buy SUV's because there's no sedans for
sale anymore? I think Rob's on the money.
I think it is. Yeah, priced at the market.
You know, why would you buy thatwhen and, and I really like the
new Accord, but the Hyundai Sonata for so much cheaper.
It's offers a lot more and it's way cheaper.
(01:24:43):
Like you know why? Why would you do it?
Question #9 Uber is offering discounts of up to 15% on which
brands This is new cars. So if you're, if you've got an
Uber like gold or platinum, whatever it is, and you're off
to, you're eligible for up to 15% off.
(01:25:06):
Off buying a car. It is, yeah.
It is they're. 4 They're four brands, I mean four brands, and
there is a point for each, Rob. Polestar.
Polestar is incorrect. I'd like your thinking though.
But but that is incorrect. David, hang on.
What I don't? No, just just.
I don't understand. So they're offering on new cars
(01:25:27):
15% off. Uber don't.
Uber don't sell cars. That is, they've, they've got a,
they've done a, they've done a deal with these, with the, with
this. Brand.
So if I go and it doesn't make sense, so if I go to say one of
these brands, let's just say 1 was Polestar.
All right, so I rock up to Polestar to buy a Polestar and
I'll mention what code word Uberand I get a disc like how does
(01:25:48):
this work? I think you got to go through
their portal maybe? Through their.
Portal I'm. Buying a polestar through Uber?
Is this for? Is this for using for Uber?
Purposes or do I have a membership?
So you got to have like Uber membership.
I don't even know dude. I'm not an Uber driver.
But like I think, I think it's, it's if you, the more you've
done with them, the better your discount is essentially.
(01:26:09):
I think so. It sounds like if you're an Uber
driver and you want to get a deal on a pollster, you can go
through Uber and get a deal. That one, yeah.
Probably. OK, I'll shut up now all.
Right. So who was in next?
So so pollster was in. David.
David was next. David Byd.
Incorrect. Oh, Ed.
(01:26:30):
I will say. Toyota Camry Hybrid.
That's what I thought it would be, but no, that is completely.
I will say Cherry. Cherry is incorrect.
You're all back in for one more guess each.
Ed Val. Val is incorrect.
What? Was that David?
Tesla. Tesla's incorrect.
(01:26:51):
Rob. Gilly, Gilly, please.
Incorrect, Scotty. Obviously a car company that
wants people to use them as Uber, but they're currently not
using. They're they're quite desperate
at this. Point.
They're very desperate. All Stellantis group, probably
Jeep. Nixon.
Incorrect. I like your thinking.
(01:27:12):
No, it is VW, Audi, Coopera or Skoda.
They're. The These drivers are going to
go broke. They'll go broke.
That's why. No good.
You can't tell me anybody Uber is going to be like, oh, give me
a buddy, a new Passat to be an Uber driver.
They'll be like. No, hey.
It it won't last about 5. Minutes stick with their hybrid
(01:27:34):
Camrys, absolutely. Yeah, correct.
Doesn't matter if. That I'm 34500 doesn't matter.
Same. I hoped in AII was in an Uber
not too long ago. It was a what was it?
It was a Toyota. It was like it was an import.
It was that was, it was a Prius. It was a Prius.
It was a Toyota. But like a, a, a plug in hybrid
(01:27:54):
Prius from, from, from Japan. It had done 580,000 kilometres.
To be fair, the car was mounted and it smelled like, and it
smelled like absolute ass. But but he's like, he's like the
battery's perfect. Like it was, it drove really
well. I'm like, Yep, I can see why
(01:28:15):
they're becoming an Uber's favourite.
Yeah, that's funny. That discount thing on the van?
The van group will not work because they will take premium
unleaded as well. Yeah.
I mean, why, why would you put yourself in a petrol car that's
not, you know, hugely economicalwith the runs on premium?
No good, David. You're not going to go and pick
(01:28:37):
up a Cupra, no. Yep.
But anyway, last question, MG isbringing you to Australia in
2026 because everybody is at this point.
What is it called? I saw this today, someone was
showing me this bloody thing this morning.
It's got tail lights on the rearthat look like a passenger car
(01:28:58):
does. There's something X U-7 or
something? No, it's like a manta or mantra
or something like that. Incorrect.
Scotty and Davids. No.
No, no, I haven't seen anything. That's how enthralling the.
Yeah, like you're so. Dull it is.
You're all out. Yeah, it's called the U9.
(01:29:23):
The U9, why that? I'll change that to the urine.
Yeah. Yeah.
Very Lamborghini Urus. Yeah.
MG now a urine. Yeah.
And that Alfa Romeo. What's that toenail?
2 nail. Yeah, and that's your car quiz,
(01:29:44):
gents. I'm looking at the I'm looking
at the interior and like the shifter that they've got for it.
Yeah, is. Is it very phallically objected
or? No, it's kind of you got to grip
it like this. You should pull down on it.
Yeah, it's almost kind of like athrottle.
(01:30:07):
Oh, the size of it. Little shines of it, David, the
size of it. The.
Size. You'd never get it down the.
Driveway. Hey Rob, I think, I think you
found your replacement for your transit mate.
One of those Oh. No, you know, I'll.
Get. The shark before I get the U9.
I don't mind the shark. Not going round Australia in the
Bloody Shark, Rob. I'm.
(01:30:28):
Going in a shark. You can go in a shark but not
round Australia. You're not going to a ring in a
shark. I could plug in the fridge or I
can use my induction stove. And you and you won't be able to
move. What?
It's a. It's a rolling generator.
It is quite literally a rolling. It's all it is.
That kind of is a. Rolling.
Generator. It is a rolling generator.
I'm I'm with you. I'm, I'm seeing sharks
(01:30:50):
everywhere too. Like they.
Are, yeah, but they're just wannabe builders who drive
around with a laptop and don't actually do anything with it.
What's it? Well, it's exactly what Ranger
up the drivers are like. That's exactly.
The same drivers Ranger up. That's fine, but Rob is talking
about going around the country you know, and being self
efficient. That's not your car.
Why not? You need a nice turbo diesel
(01:31:13):
with a caravan on the back. No caravan, just a rooftop tent
That's. It mate 38380 that's where it's
at. I love a.
Rooftop. Tent, but it's.
It's tied up there, Rob. It's not.
You know you. Know the wife won't like it.
But you know, and this isn't going to be cramped up there.
It's fine for me, you know? Debbie will be like, I'll sleep
in the tent alone. You'll be like, oh, that's all
right, I've got the. You want a?
Caravan where you can sit and play cards at the table.
(01:31:36):
Comfy leather seats and the 380 come on like that's.
The three. 81. Sport Check Put.
A tow bar on the 380 and tow a little 5 Grand Caravan.
It's perfect. I think it's got a tow bar on
it. I think it does that 102.
This story's writing itself. It's on gas too.
(01:31:58):
Even better. So not that you can get gas in
the country, but where you can get it, you can do a bit of gas.
Absolutely. Yeah, that didn't look cracking
a thread with a little lightweight pop top on the back.
You can get those little A vans, you know there's a jump jump and
they're up and they're about 10 grand.
This is a cheap. This is riding the cheap way to
get around Australia. I'm I'm.
(01:32:19):
With you I, I think. It's being 7080 on these
behemoth bands. You can't park, you're
unreliable or all European. No good. 380 SEC rooftop tent
and. A a van.
You can play Uno, they can Scrabble with the wife.
Oh. Drastic.
Many hours of fun. Well.
What do you think you're going to do in the band?
(01:32:40):
It's the same thing. Yeah, no, all right, I could.
I can't take the push bikes and tow the motorbike and all that,
sort of. Stuff, I'm just going to throw
it out there and just say Dodge Ram.
TRX competition there for a TRXImight win that, yeah.
There's your answer. And that comes with a Caravan 2
(01:33:01):
to TRX. Happy days, Happy days Rob.
Score check from the quiz. Rob didn't get to score tonight.
Rob Scotty on one, Edward on four and tonight's winner on a
grand title of five is Mr. DavidPrince.
Well done. Well.
Done well. Done some some interesting
trivia and now you'll know that Powderfinger are back on their
(01:33:26):
screens with the Ford Ranger. So there you go, that's a.
It's a wonderful. World and that the Ferrari as a
brain has outsold the Accord. Wow, just that.
That when I saw that today, I blew my mind.
I was like, what the hell? How does that even happen?
Yeah. But anyway, changing automotive
(01:33:46):
landscape. Yes, let's just say that.
Liz. Gentlemen, I think that's a
podcast. Thank you mate.
Yep, Yep. Thank you.
You let's do some plugs. Rob's doing it.
He's firefighting, electrical neighbour hating 380, restoring
camping what? Ford punching on with Ranger
(01:34:08):
driving what? What else you've been doing
recently, Rob? Oh look, the neighbours moving
out across the street or one of the neighbours.
So hopefully the other 3 will move out and I'll be right.
Yeah, that's it 100%. Yep.
You're getting rid of him, Rob. I like it.
Telling Rob should we be buying in?
Absolutely. Why not?
I'm not going up in the street. We still.
Haven't imagine being in the. Street.
Oh, oh, I can see it now. I can see it now.
(01:34:32):
Yeah. That would be sick.
Pop over to borrow. A cup of sugar and maybe an 18
millimetre, you know, high tensile socket, yeah.
Absolutely. Hoist, hoist there.
And yeah, yeah, hey. Rob, can I, can I borrow your
hoist for half an hour? Yeah, mate.
Bring it over. Yeah.
(01:34:53):
No, no. Worries man, no.
Bucket. Please.
Great, a car next door out in the street, no one's going to
complain. No, we we will be happily
letting you put that car on the street you walk.
You walk out to your car and it's got all this over spray on
it. Yeah, Rob's been out.
What's that red line on your car?
(01:35:18):
Yeah. He's painting something, that
fella. Music.
Oh, there's another fire he's been welding.
It's another Ltd on fire. It's all right you.
Guys, it'll be our street, so we'll just block it off.
Yeah, 100%. It'd be a good Christmas party
too. Imagine the block parties we
could have. Yeah, imagine winning the block,
(01:35:42):
you know, the one that you know,Phillip Bond where all the
houses. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah, do that right now can.
See it now. Green can see it now.
David's David. Prince's Wisdom.
Oh. Yeah, one, we're all going to
die, but on all the others we'renot.
That is true, Yeah. Good one like it.
(01:36:03):
Live your life. Like I heard one recently which
I've heard before and but it resonated with me.
I liked it. Life is not a dress rehearsal.
This isn't a practise run. If you want to do it, do it
basically. That's a bit it's a bit Ed
wisdom it it. It isn't.
It isn't. It isn't anything you guys want
to plug. Honda Sky V.
(01:36:24):
AV Yeah. Seem to be for sale locate.
Your mate didn't want it. I was thinking about it, which
means no, no locate, sorry, locate, locate if you ignore the
1st digit. Yeah. 6 1/2 thousand cracker.
Yeah, bad. What are you after for that,
(01:36:46):
Edward, out of curiosity? 3 1/2.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's fair with Rd with.
Reg till December. Timing belt just done.
All right, belts just done. Radiator just done.
What did you think about that Mazda 6 MPSI?
Had a look at that. I quite liked it.
(01:37:09):
I thought you could bring that back.
But then as As for the question I asked, you know what, what's a
cracker worth? Are they, are they 12?
Are they 13? Are they 9?
You know. It's so hard.
Because there just there's not that many pop up and.
It and it had done 200K, which is not crazy KS, but it's still
something if it if it had done, you know, 140 or something a bit
(01:37:32):
more, yeah, you might be able toask 12990 for that and maybe
worth doing. But if it's only an 8 or 9
grander or A10 grander, it's like, oh, you're getting tight.
Not much in it to flip it. Yeah, yeah, I get you.
That BMW that I, I sent to Grey,the little 320, I, I lost money
on that. I lost like 4 or $500 on it.
(01:37:54):
Anyway, it went to someone and sure enough, the next day popped
up on on Facebook Marketplace for four and a half and then it
went or two and now it's 3/8. I saved it.
It's going down by the day. Good luck with that.
Good luck with that. I did I think about 3:20.
(01:38:15):
You think it'll get down to 320?Is that what you said, David?
I I don't think we heard about the 3:20.
Oh, it was just a little white 320I.
It's down to three eight now. You know, the E90 shape 2006,
not a great car. It's the one that I sold to a
work colleague five years ago. So I ended up buying it back,
(01:38:36):
but it's a bit more bashed around now and I just sort of
cleaned it and sent it to Grey'sbecause there were just too many
things. Yeah.
Ironically, it drove really well, like the motor and the
trans and the air con and you know, it, it was actually a very
good driving car and as it was when I had it, but I sold it to
him with 90 on it. It's now done 158.
But just, you know, yeah, had a bit of a life.
(01:38:57):
Yeah. And it's a sort of a shame.
I looked at it and thought, oh, with, with, with a few weekends
on it and fix the bumper and to put a new interior mirror and do
this and give it a service. And, you know, it still drives
so well, but they're just worth nothing.
Those early 90s now they're, they're really sort of 545 grand
cars. And so, yeah, I, as I said, I
(01:39:20):
lost money on it at Grace. So yeah, what do you do?
Got his golf tip of the week. So when you're having trouble
hitting the golf ball, don't picture it as a circle.
Picture it as just a like a flatobject because it's easy when
you think about as a flat objectwhen you're coming down to hit
(01:39:41):
it. So kind of like picture it as
like a rock or a piece of wood or something.
And just don't think about all those thoughts of your YouTube
clips that you watched of how toswing.
Just think about how you're going to hit it.
And most of the time, you're probably not going to miss.
(01:40:02):
Like that one? Scary.
It's a good one. Good morning, Tell.
