Some pets aren't meant to be kept.

Jacob has never been good at keeping things alive. But when he brings home a rare "bottom-dwelling sucker fish" from a mysterious pet store, he's determined to break that pattern.

He names it Ralph.

At first, the large-eyed plecostomus seems like the perfect low-maintenance pet, methodically cleaning Jacob's aquarium with its strange, sucker-like mouth. But as days pass, Ralph begins to change. He grows larger. Faster. His body darkens to a blood-red hue. And the other fish start disappearing.

By the time Jacob realizes something is terribly wrong, Ralph has developed appendages that no fish should have, intelligence no aquatic creature should possess, and a hunger that cannot be satisfied by algae wafers.

When Ralph escapes his tank, Jacob and his on-again, off-again girlfriend Mia discover the horrifying truth: Ralph isn't just adapting to his environment—he's consuming and becoming. And what he wants to become next walks on two legs.

From the sunless depths of the Amazon to the blood-soaked floors of an apartment building, RALPH is a tale of evolutionary horror that will make you think twice about what might be watching you from behind the glass.

Some things should stay in the deep.
