The pirates push forward on their expedition and are terrified when they discover a skeleton acting as a macabre compass. As they continue to the treasure they hear a horrifying, disembodied voice singing “Fifteen men on the dead man’s chest”.  They are once again shocked when they come upon the location of the buried treasure.

The remaining pirates, angry and frustrated over their lack of success, hold a secret council and present Long John Silver with a "Black Spot". Silver calmly outmaneuvers his men by reminding them that they still have the treasure map. 

Dr. Livesey arrives at the stockade to treat the sick and injured pirates. Livesey warns Long John that if he holds off on finding the treasure, he will do what he can to save him from the gallo...

Jim Hawkins successfully kills Israel Hands in self-defense, frees the Hispaniola, and steers her away from the pirates.

He then hikes back to the stockade at night. Thinking it belongs to his friends, he sneaks in quietly to go to sleep. He steps on a sleeping man's leg, and Long John Silver's pet parrot, Captain Flint, gives him away.

Climbing aboard the Hispaniola, Jim is surprised to see no one on deck, until he catches sight of Israel Hands. After giving Hands the brandy he begged for, he tells Hands he is taking over the ship.

The ship grounds on the beach and Israel tries to take Jim out. Things don’t always go as planned.

This is it, folks. The end of the Herland journey. This concluding chapter deals with the aftermath of Terry’s trial and the final decisions each character must make about their place in Herland.
