the intentions of your sacredheart, in union with the holy

Pope Leo XV, our SupremePontiff, and direct him
according to thy loving kindnessin the way of eternal salvation,

(01:03):
that of thy gift he may everdesire that which is pleasing
unto thee, and may accomplish itwith all his might, through
Christ our Lord, amen.
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will bedone, on earth as it is in
heaven.
Give us this day our dailybread, and forgive us our

(01:24):
trespasses, as we forgive thosewho trespass against us, and
lead us not into temptation, butdeliver us from evil, amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, theLord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy
womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, prayfor us sinners, now and at the

(01:45):
hour of our death, amen.
Glory be to the Father and tothe Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, isnow, and ever shall be, world
without end, amen.
In the name of the Father and ofthe Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
amen.
Quote from Saint Benedict ofNurcia He who labors as he

(02:08):
prays, lifts his heart to Godwith his hands.
Meditation of the Day an excerptfrom the Imitation of Mary in
four books by Alexander deRouville, pages one hundred
ninety four through one ninetysix.
I know your neighbor is often aburden to you because of his

(02:29):
moods and silly ideas andstrange behavior, but if you are
obedient to grace, it will teachyou to overcome your repugnance
and win great merit.
The occasions for practicingheroic virtue did not come every
day even to the saints, yetbecause they patiently put up
with the faults of theirneighbors, each day added a new

(02:52):
luster to their crown.
A Christian's life is a life ofsacrifices, and a man's neighbor
with his faults is constantlygiving occasion for multiplying
such sacrifices.
All men sin many times.
They ought therefore make of usthe means they have of expiating
their sins.

(03:12):
One of the most effective ofthese means is to put up with
one's neighbor in a spirit ofpenance.
In addition, my child, every manhas his faults.
The most perfect man is simplythe one who has fewer defects
than anyone else.
You will find defects in yourbrothers and they in you.
Be not one of those who thinkthey have no defects and by that

(03:34):
very fact have the greatestdefect of all.
Your brothers put up with you asyou are, put up with them as
they are.
In bearing with your neighbor, show the patience he needs in
bearing with you and with thedefects he cannot but observe in
you.
You have long been wearingyourself out trying to improve
yourself, but your efforts untilnow have seen little success.

(03:59):
How then can you claim tocorrect those of others as you
wish?
All your complaints at theannoyances you must put up with
from certain people whodisplease you are not helpful
and certainly will not bringabout their correction.
In dealing with such annoyances, the only course of action for
you to take is to ask Jesus tohelp you in drawing profit from

(04:21):
them, in testing yourself, andin gaining more solid virtues.
Scripture verse of the day Beperfect, therefore, as your
heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew chapter five verse fortyeight.
Saint of the day.
The saint of the day fornovember seventeenth is Saint

(04:43):
Elizabeth of Hungary.
Saint Elizabeth of Hungary livedbetween twelve oh seven and
twelve thirty one.
She was born in Hungary, thedaughter of King Andrew II of
Hungary and his wife Gertrude.
As a child she was sent toThuringa.
She was sent to Thuringia, nowGermany, to be brought up with

(05:04):
Prince Ludwig of Thuringia, whomshe was to marry at the age of
fourteen in order to solidify apolitical alliance between the
two nations.
Their marriage was a very happyone, and they had three children
together.
Although Elizabeth was aprincess surrounded by a
magnificent court, she lived ahumble life serving the sick and
poor outside her castle walls.

(05:26):
No amount of disapproval fromthose who considered this
behavior beneath her royalstatus could dissuade her from
her faithfulness to this task.
One day, on her way to feed thepoor, her husband stopped her
and asked to see what sheconcealed beneath her mantle.
The food she carried wasmiraculously replaced by roses,
signifying God's approval of hercharity.

(05:48):
When her husband, after sixyears of marriage, tragically
died on his way to join thecrusade in Jerusalem, Elizabeth
was grief stricken.
She vowed to never remarry andeventually left her life of
nobility to join the secularFranciscans as a penitent.
She continued her charitableworks to an even greater degree
and helped the Rinja recoverfrom a famine by giving them a

(06:11):
huge gift of grain.
It was this act, along with herhabit of distributing bread to
the poor, that made her thepatron saint of bakers.
She is also the patron ofhospitals, the homeless, widows,
charities, and nursing homes.
And today, november seventeenth,is the feast day of Saint
Elizabeth of Hungary.

(06:34):
Devotion of the Month Novemberis the month of the holy souls.
The Catholic Church dedicatesthe entire month of November to
praying in a special way for theholy souls in purgatory.
The holy souls, also called thefaithful departed, are members
of the Church, who await thepurification of their souls
before joining the saints inheaven for all eternity.

(06:56):
Specifically, they are referredto as the church suffering, the
saints in heaven are the churchtriumphant, and the faithful on
earth are the church militant.
The poor souls in purgatorycannot pray for themselves or do
anything to hasten theirentrance into heaven, but we can
and ought to pray for them as anact of charity.

(07:17):
Readings for Holy Mass forThursday at the thirty third
week in ordinary time.
A reading from the Book ofRevelation, chapter five, verses
one through ten.
I, John, saw a scroll in theright hand of the one who sat on
the throne.
It had writing on both sides andwas sealed with seven seals.

(07:38):
Then I saw a mighty angel whoproclaimed in a loud voice, Who
is worthy to open the scroll andbreak its seals?
But no one in heaven or on earthor under the earth was able to
open the scroll or to examineit.
I shed many tears because no onewas found worthy to open the
scroll or to examine it.

(07:59):
One of the elders said to me, Donot weep, the lion of the tribe
of Judah, the root of David, hastriumphed, enabling him to open
the scroll with its seven seals.
Then I saw standing in the midstof the throne and the four
living creatures and the elders,a lamb that seemed to have been
slain.

(08:19):
He had seven horns and seveneyes, these are the seven
spirits of God sent out into thewhole world.
He came and received the scrollfrom the right hand of the one
who sat on the throne.
When he took it the four livingcreatures and the twenty four
elders fell down before thelamb.
Each of the elders held a harpand gold bowls filled with

(08:41):
incense, which are the prayersof the holy ones.
They sang a new hymn.
Worthy are you to receive thescroll and break open its seals,
for you were slain, and withyour blood you purchased for God
those from every tribe andtongue, people and nation.
You made them a kingdom andpriests for our God, and they

(09:01):
will reign on earth.
