Meditation of the Day An excerptfrom Interior Freedom by Fr.

(03:03):
Jacques-Philippe, p.
47 What really hurts is not somuch suffering as the fear of
suffering.
If welcomed trustingly andpeacefully, suffering makes us
grow.
It matures and trains us,purifies us, teaches us to love
unselfishly, makes us poor inheart, humble, gentle and

(03:25):
compassionate toward ourneighbor.
Fear of suffering, on the otherhand, hardens us in
self-protective, defensiveattitudes and often leads us to
make irrational choices withdisastrous consequences.

(03:55):
Saint of the Day The Saint ofthe Day for September 8th is
Saint Adrian of Nicomedia.
Saint Adrian of Nicomedia diedin 306 AD.
He lived under the Christianpersecutions of the Roman
Emperor Galerius Maximian.
Thirty-three Christians wereseized in Nicomedia, brought
before a judge, and ordered tobe savagely beaten.

(04:16):
With each new torture the menreceived, they bravely
proclaimed their faith inChrist.
They argued with the judge thatby his tortures he was only
increasing their heavenly glorywhile guaranteeing his own
damnation to hell.
Adrian, a man of 28 years, washead of the praetorium and
witnessed the steadfast faith ofthese men.

(04:37):
He was moved to the point ofconversion and exclaimed that he
too would reject paganism tosuffer and die for the name of
Christ along with the otherChristians.
One of Adrian's servants ran totell his wife Natalie what her
