Blessed Dennis of the Nativitylived between sixteen hundred

He was born in France and becamea sailor at the age of twelve.
He had a successful career aspilot in chief and cartographer

He later chose the religiouslife and became a Carmelite
friar, taking the name DionysiusDennis of the Nativity.
He was sent by his superiors ona diplomatic and missionary
mission to the Sultan ofSumatra.
Once there all the members ofhis party were seized at the
instigation of the Dutchauthorities.

They were tortured by theirIslamic captors and were told to
renounce their Catholic faithand become Muslims.
They refused and were martyred.
Saint Dennis was martyred last,as he desired, in order to be
able to strengthen the others.
He was killed by a scimitar blowthat split his head in two.
