Meditation of the Day, anexcerpt from Dialogue of St.
Catherine of Siena, page 94.
I do not wish the soul toconsider her sins, either in
general or in particular, without also remembering the
(02:28):
blood and the broadness of mymercy, for fear that otherwise
she should be brought toconfusion.
And together with confusionwould come the devil, who has
caused it, under color ofcontrition and displeasure of
sin.
And so she would arrive ateternal damnation, not only on
account of her confusion, butalso through the despair which
(02:49):
would come to her, because shedid not seize the arm of my
mercy.
This is one of the subtledevices with which the devil
deludes my servants.
And in order to escape from hisdeceit and to be pleasing to me,
you must enlarge your hearts andaffections in my boundless mercy
with true humility." You knowthat the pride of the devil
(03:12):
cannot resist the humble mind, nor can any confusion of spirit
be greater than the broadness ofmy good mercy, if the soul will
only truly hope therein.

One of them, however, disappeared, and I had to
conclude that he must have beentorn to pieces by wild beasts.

befalls him, you will send mywhite head down to the
