Meditation of the day, anexcerpt from In the School of
the Holy Spirit by FatherJacques Philippe, page thirty
seven.
The Spirit of God is a spirit ofpeace, and he speaks and acts in

(02:35):
peace and gentleness, never intumult and agitation.
What's more, the motions of thespirit are delicate touches that
don't make a great noise and canpenetrate our spiritual
consciousness only if we havewithin ourselves a sort of calm
zone of silence and peace.
If our inner world is noisy andagitated, the gentle voice of

(02:57):
the Holy Spirit will find itvery difficult to be heard.
If we want to recognize andfollow the Spirit's motions, it
is of the greatest importance tomaintain a peaceful heart in all
circumstances.
Scripture verse of the day.

(03:21):
Wait for the Lord, be strong andtake heart and wait for the
Lord.
Psalm 28, verses 13 through 14.
Saint of the day, the saint ofthe day for November 18th is
Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne.
Saint Rose Philippine Duchesnelived between 1769 and 1852.

(03:44):
She was born in Grenoble,France, to a wealthy and
prominent family.
At the age of 18, she joined theVisitation Nuns against the
wishes of her family, taking herreligious name after Saint Rose
of Lima and Saint Philip Neri.
During the anti religious fervorof French Revolution, the reign
of terror, her convent was shutdown.

(04:04):
She then took up the work ofproviding care for the sick,
hiding priests from therevolutionaries, and educating
homeless children.
When the tensions of therevolution subsided, she rented
out her old convent in anattempt to revive her religious
order, but the spirit was gone.
She and the few remaining nunsof her convent then joined the

(04:24):
Society of the Sacred Heart ofJesus.
Since childhood, Saint RosePhilippine had a strong desire
to do missionary work in the NewWorld, especially among the
Native Americans.
This was realized in 1818 whenshe and four nuns traveled
across the Atlantic, a journeyof eleven weeks and another
seven up the Mississippi Riverto serve in one of the remotest

(04:47):
outposts in the region in St.
Charles, Missouri.
Saint Rose Philippine was ahardy pioneer woman ministering
in the Midwest during itsdifficult frontier days.
She opened several schools andserved the Pottawatomie Indians
who gave her the name Kwa KakaNumad, meaning woman who prays
always.

(05:08):
Saint Rose Philippine Duchen, pray for us.
Readings for Holy Mass forWednesday of the thirty third
week in ordinary time A readingfrom two Maccabees chapter seven
and verses twenty through thirtyone.
It happened that seven brotherswith their mother were arrested

(05:30):
and tortured with whips andscourges by the king to force
them to eat pork in violation ofGod's law.
Most admirable and worthy ofeverlasting remembrance was the
mother, who saw her seven sonsperish in a single day, yet bore
it courageously because of herhope in the Lord.
Filled with a noble spirit thatstirred her womanly heart with

(05:54):
manly courage, she exhorted eachof them in the language of their
ancestors with these words.
I do not know how you came intoexistence in my womb.
It was not I who gave you thebreath of life, nor was it I who
set in order the elements ofwhich each of you is composed.
Therefore, since it is thecreator of the universe who

(06:16):
shapes each man's beginning, ashe brings about the origin of
everything, he in his mercy willgive you back both breath and
life, because you now disregardyourselves for the sake of his
law.
Antiochus, suspecting insult inher words, thought he was being
ridiculed.
As the youngest brother wasstill alive, the king appealed

(06:38):
to him, not with mere words, butwith promises on oath to make
him rich and happy if he wouldabandon his ancestral customs.
He would make him his friend andentrust him with high office.
When the youth paid no attentionto him at all, the king appealed
to the mother, urging her toadvise her boy to save his life.

(06:58):
After he had urged her for along time, she went through the
motions of persuading her son.
In derision of the cruel tyrant, she leaned over close to her son
and said in their nativelanguage, Son, have pity on me,
who carried you in my womb fornine months, nursed you for
three years, brought you up,educated and supported you to

(07:20):
your present age.
I beg you, child, to look at theheavens and the earth and see
all that is in them, then youwill know that God did not make
them out of existing things, andin the same way the human race
came into existence.
Do not be afraid of thisexecutioner, but be worthy of
your brothers and accept death,so that in the time of mercy I

(07:43):
may receive you again with them.
She had scarcely finishedspeaking when the youth said,
What are you waiting for?
I will not obey the king'scommand.
I obey the command of the lawgiven to our fathers through
Moses, but you who havecontrived every kind of
affliction for the Hebrews willnot escape the hands of God.

(08:04):
The Word of the LordResponsorial Psalm Psalm
seventeen Lord, when your gloryappears, my joy will be full.
Hear, O Lord, a just suit, attend to my outcry, hearken to
my prayer from lips withoutdeceit.
Lord, when your glory appears,my joy will be full.

(08:26):
My steps have been steadfast inyour paths, my feet have not
faltered.
I call upon you, for you willanswer me, O God, incline your
ear to me, hear my word.
Lord, when your glory appears,my joy will be full.
Keep me as the apple of youreye, hide me in the shadow of
your wings, but I in justiceshall behold your face.

(08:49):
On waking I shall be content inyour presence.
Lord, when your glory appears,my joy will be full.
A reading from the Holy Gospelaccording to Luke, chapter
nineteen verses eleven throughtwenty eight.
While people were listening toJesus speak, he proceeded to
tell a parable because he wasnear Jerusalem, and they thought

(09:12):
that the kingdom of God wouldappear there immediately.
So he said, A nobleman went offto a distant country to obtain
the kingship for himself andthen to return.
He called ten of his servantsand gave them ten gold coins and
told them, Engage in trade withthese until I return.
His fellow citizens, however, despised him and sent a

(09:34):
delegation after him toannounce, We do not want this
man to be our king.
But when he returned afterobtaining the kingship, he had
the servants called, to whom hehad given the money, to learn
what they had gained by trading.
The first came forward and said,Sir, your gold coin has earned
ten additional ones.
He replied, Well done, goodservant.

(09:56):
You have been faithful in thissmall matter, take charge of ten
cities.
Then the second came andreported, Your gold coin, sir,
has earned five more, and tothis servant too he said, You
take charge of five cities.
Then the other servant came andsaid, Sir, here is your gold
coin.
I kept it stored away in ahandkerchief, for I was afraid

(10:18):
of you because you are ademanding man.
You take up what you did not laydown, and you harvest what you
did not plant.
He said to him, With your ownwords I shall condemn you, you
wicked servant.
You knew I was a demanding man, taking up what I did not lay
down and harvesting what I didnot plant.
Why did you not put my money ina bank?

(10:38):
Then on my return I would havecollected it with interest.
And to those standing by hesaid, Take the gold coin from
him and give it to the servantwho has ten.
But they said to him, Sir he hasten gold coins, he replied, I
tell you, to everyone who hasmore will be given, but from the
one who has not, even what hehas will be taken away.

Now as for those enemies of minewho did not want me as their
king, bring them here and slaythem before me.
