(02:08):
Never will we understand thevalue of time better than when
our last hour is at hand.
Meditation of the Day, anexcerpt from Cultivating Virtue,
Self-Mastery with the Saints,Anonymous, page 292 The Lord
measures our perfection not bythe number and greatness of the

(02:30):
works we do for Him, but by ourmanner of doing them.
And this manner is only the loveof God with which and for which
we do them.
They are more perfect as theyare done with more pure and
perfect love, and as they areless mingled with the thoughts
of pleasure or praise in thislife or the other.

(02:50):
Saint John of the Cross WhenSaint Bernard was assisting one
night at Matins, he saw someangels who were carefully noting
down the merit of each of themonks.
The merit of those who werepraying with much fervor They
sat down in golden characters,of those with less fervor, in
silver characters, of those withgoodwill, but without affection,

(03:12):
in ink, of those with sloth anddrowsiness, in water.
But as to those who were inmortal sin or voluntarily
distracted, they wrote nothing, but, standing motionless, they
lamented their blindness.
Scripture Verse of the Day Makeme understand the way of your

(03:33):
precepts and I will meditate onyour wondrous works.
My soul melts away for sorrow.
Strengthen me according to yourword.
Put false ways far from me andgraciously teach me your law.
I have chosen the way offaithfulness.
I set your ordinances before me.
I cling to your decrees, O Lord.

(03:53):
Let me not be put to shame.
I run the way of yourcommandments, for you enlarge my
understanding.

Devotion of the Month July isthe month of the precious blood.
The month of July traditionallyhonors the most precious blood
of Jesus.
It is the blood of Christ, theLamb of God, which cleanses from
sin.
Therefore, the church developeda devotion to Jesus' physical

(06:07):
blood and its mystical power, just as it did for his sacred
heart from which his bloodpoured out on the cross.
The precious blood of Jesuscourses through the church
spiritually, giving eternal lifeto the body of Christ through
the sacraments.
Many saints had a devotion tothe precious blood of Jesus,
especially St.
Catherine of Siena.

(06:27):
Devotion to the precious bloodspread widely through the
preaching of St.
Gaspar del Buffalo, who was a19th century priest and the
founder of the Missionaries ofthe Precious Blood.
This devotion was later approvedand recommended by the Holy See.
The feast day of the mostprecious blood of Jesus is July
1st.

verses 15 through 29.

(07:16):
hand and the hands of his wifeand his two daughters, and led
them to safety outside the city.
As soon as they had been broughtoutside, he was told, flee for
your life.
Don't look back or stop anywhereon the plane.
Get off to the hills at once oryou will be swept away.
Oh no, my lord, Lot replied.
You have already thought enoughof your servant to do me the

(07:38):
great kindness of intervening tosave my life.
But I cannot flee to the hillsto keep the disaster from
overtaking me, and so I shalldie.
Look, this town ahead is nearenough to escape to.
It's only a small place.
Let me flee there.
It's a small place, is it not, that my life may be saved?

(07:58):
Well then, he replied, I willalso grant you the favor you now
ask.
I will not overthrow the townyou speak of.
Hurry, escape there.
I cannot do anything until youarrive there.
That is why the town is calledZor.
The sun was just rising over theearth as Lot arrived in Zor.
At the same time, the Lordrained down sulfurous fire upon

(08:22):
Sodom and Gomorrah from the Lordout of heaven.
He overthrew those cities andthe whole plain, together with
the inhabitants of the citiesand the produce of the soil.
But Lot's wife looked back, andshe was turned into a pillar of
salt.
Early the next morning, Abrahamwent to the place where he had
stood in the Lord's presence.

(08:42):
The Word of the LordResponsorial Psalm, Psalm 26 O

(09:11):
Lord, your mercy is before myeyes.
Search me, O Lord, and try me.
Test my soul and my heart, foryour mercy is before my eyes,
and I walk in your truth.
O Lord, your mercy is before myeyes.
Gather not my soul with those ofsinners, nor with men of blood

(09:32):
my life.
On their hands are crimes, andtheir right hands are full of
bribes.
O Lord, your mercy is before myeyes.
But I walk in integrity.
Redeem me and have mercy on me.
My foot stands on level ground.
In the assemblies I will blessthe Lord.
O Lord, your mercy is before myeyes.
