reign with him.
If you cry with him, you willhave joy with him.
(02:15):
If you die with him on the crossof tribulation, you will possess
the eternal dwelling place inthe splendor of the saints, and
your name, written in the Bookof Life, will be glorious among
men.
Meditation of the Day, anexcerpt from Abandonment to
Divine Providence by FatherJean-Pierre de Cassade, pages 23
(02:38):
through 24.
The soul, enlightened by faith, judges of things in a very
different way to those who, having only the standard of the
senses by which to measure them, ignore the inestimable treasure
they contain.
The soul that recognizes thewill of God in every smallest
event, and also in those thatare most distressing and
(03:00):
direful, receives all with anequal joy, pleasure, and
respect.
It throws open all its doors toreceive with honor what others
fear and fly from with horror.
The outward appearance may bemean and contemptible, but
beneath this abject garb, theheart discovers and honors the
majesty of the king.
(03:22):
The deeper the abasement of hisentry in such a guise and in
secret, the more does the heartbecome filled with love.
Scripture verse of the day.
Take my yoke upon you and learnfrom me, for I am gentle and
(03:45):
humble in heart, and you willfind rest for your souls, for my
yoke is easy and my burden islight.
Matthew chapter 11, verses 28through 30.
Saint of the day, the saint ofthe day for November 25th is
Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
Saint Catherine of Alexandrialived in the fourth century.
(04:08):
She was born to a noble paganfamily in Alexandria, Egypt, and
her father was governor of thecity.
She was an intelligent child whodevoted herself to study and
converted to the Christian faithafter the Blessed Virgin Mary
appeared to her in a vision.
Many of her fellow Christianswere put to death under the
reign of Roman EmperorMaxintius.
(04:28):
Catherine, at the age ofeighteen, rebuked the emperor to
his face for this injustice, giving a skillful defense of the
Christian faith.
In response, Maxintius broughtfifty of his best philosophers
to debate with her and refuteher claims.
Saint Catherine not only won theargument by confounding her
opponents, but she caused manyof them to convert to the
(04:48):
Christian faith.
The emperor offered Catherine aroyal marriage if she would
renounce her faith, but sherefused.
She was imprisoned, and while incaptivity, through her newfound
fame, converted the emperor'swife and two hundred of his
soldiers.
When this was discovered,Maxintius had them all put to
death.
Catherine was to be tortured andkilled by being torn apart on a
(05:11):
spiked wheel, but the wheel fellto pieces when it touched her.
She was finally martyred bybeheading.
Saint Catherine is the patronessof philosophers, preachers,
lawyers, apologists, scholars, and librarians, to name a few.
Saint Catherine of Alexandria, pray for us.
(05:33):
Readings for Holy Mass forTuesday of the thirty fourth or
last week in ordinary time.
A reading from the book of theProphet Daniel, chapter two,
verses thirty one through fortyfive.
Daniel said to Nebuchadnezzar,In your vision, O king, you saw
a statue, very large andexceedingly bright, terrifying
(05:54):
in appearance as it stood beforeyou.
The head of the statue was puregold, its chest and arms were
silver, its belly and thighsbronze, the legs iron, its feet
partly iron and partly tile.
While you looked at the statue,a stone which was hewn from a
mountain, without a hand beingput to it, struck its iron and
(06:15):
tile feet, breaking them inpieces.
The iron, tile, bronze, silver, and gold all crumbled at once,
fine as the chaff on thethreshing floor in summer, and
the wind blew them away withoutleaving a trace.
But the stone that struck thestatue became a great mountain
and filled the whole earth.
This was the dream, theinterpretation we shall also
(06:37):
give in the king's presence.
You, O king, are the king ofkings.
To you the God of heaven hasgiven dominion and strength,
power and glory.
Men, wild beasts, and birds ofthe air, wherever they may
dwell, he has handed over toyou, making you ruler over them
all.
You are the head of gold.
Another kingdom shall take yourplace, inferior to yours, then a
(07:01):
third kingdom of bronze, whichshall rule over the whole earth.
There will be a fourth kingdomstrong as iron, it shall break
in pieces and subdue all theothers, just as iron breaks in
pieces and crushes everythingelse.
The feet and toes you saw, partly of potter's tile and
partly of iron, mean that itshall be a divided kingdom, but
(07:22):
yet have some of the hardness ofiron.
As you saw the iron mixed withclay tile, and the toes, partly
iron and partly tile, thekingdom shall be partly strong
and partly fragile.
The iron mixed with clay tilemeans that they shall seal their
alliances by intermarriage, butthey shall not stay united any
(07:42):
more than iron mixes with clay.
In the lifetime of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a
kingdom that shall never bedestroyed or delivered up to
another people.
Rather it shall break in piecesall these kingdoms and put an
end to them, and it shall standforever.
That is the meaning of the stoneyou saw hewn from the mountain
(08:03):
without a hand being put to it,which broke in pieces the tile,
iron, bronze, silver, and gold.
The great God has revealed tothe king what shall be in the
future.
This is exactly what youdreamed, and its meaning is
sure.
The word of the Lord.
Responsorial Psalm Danielchapter three.
(08:25):
Give glory and eternal praise tohim.
Bless the Lord, all you works ofthe Lord, praise and exalt him
above all forever.
Give glory and eternal praise tohim.
Angels of the Lord, bless theLord, praise and exalt him above
all forever.
(08:45):
Give glory and eternal praise tohim.
You heavens, bless the Lord, praise and exalt him above all
forever.
Give glory and eternal praise tohim.
All you waters above theheavens, bless the Lord, praise
and exalt him above all forever.
(09:07):
Give glory and eternal praise tohim.
All you hosts of the Lord, blessthe Lord, praise and exalt him
above all forever.
Give glory and eternal praise tohim.
A reading from the Holy Gospelaccording to Luke, chapter
twenty one verses five througheleven.
(09:29):
While some people were speakingabout how the temple was adorned
with costly stones and votiveofferings, Jesus said, All that
you see here, the days will comewhen there will not be left a
stone upon another stone thatwill not be thrown down.
Then they asked him, Teacher, when will this happen?
And what sign will there be whenall these things are about to
(09:51):
happen?
He answered, See that you not bedeceived, for many will come in
my name saying, I am he and thetime has come.
Do not follow them.
When you hear of wars andinsurrections, do not be
terrified, for such things musthappen first, but it will not
immediately be the end.
Then he said to them, Nationwill rise against nation, and
(10:15):
kingdom against kingdom.
There will be powerfulearthquakes, famines, and
plagues from place to place, andawesome sights and mighty signs
will come from the sky.
