September 23rd is Saint PadrePio of Pietrosina.
Saint Padre Pio lived between1887 and 1968.
He was born to peasant farmersin southern Italy.

By the time he was five yearsold, he practiced a life of
penance and made the decision togive himself completely to God.
He grew up working in the fieldsand at the age of 19 joined the
Capuchin Franciscan Friars.
His Franciscan spirituality waswas characterized by a life of
poverty, love of nature, andcharity to those in need,

especially to those who were hisspiritual children.
Saint Padre Pio had manyspiritual gifts and was a great
miracle worker.
These were well documented frommultiple reliable sources and
included bilocation, levitation,reading souls, and physical
healing by touch.
Word of his holiness spread andpeople, both pious and curious,

flocked to see him.
especially to have him heartheir confession.
He is the first priest known tohave received the stigmata for
which he suffered suspicion andinvestigation.
Because of the unusualsupernatural phenomena
surrounding his life, he isconsidered one of the great
visionaries and mystics of theChurch.

He was canonized by Pope St.
John Paul II in 2002.
