Saint Kieran the Younger livedbetween 512 and 546 AD.
He was born in Connaught,Ireland, the son of a carpenter.
He demonstrated a great aptitudein his studies, being educated
by a holy deacon who had himbaptized.
Kieran tended cattle in thefields before continuing his

education at Saint Finian'sMonastery School at Clonard,
where he became a monk.
He soon earned the reputationfor being the most learned monk
at Clonard and was held in highesteem by his instructors and
peers.
Kieran's years of residencethere were marked by many
