You're probably familiar withthe charming white and pink
packaging of Malley's chocolates, but there's more to this local
favorite than just itsdelicious treats.
(00:54):
Today we're diving into thesweet history of Malley's, a
true family legacy that startedduring the hardships of the
Great Depression.
It all began in 1935.
While the country grappled witheconomic downturn, albert Mike
Malley was busy pursuing hisdream.
With just $500, mike opened hisfirst chocolate shop in
Lakewood, ohio.
The shop was modest, with Mike, his wife Jo and their children
(01:15):
living right in the back rooms.
But Mike's dedication slowlyturned his dream into a reality.
Fast forward to 1949, mike wasready to open a second location.
By then Mally's chocolates hadbecome a community staple.
The opening night was so packedthat the police had to manage
the crowds.
Mike's passion for chocolatewas clearly contagious.
(01:38):
Enter Bill Mally, mike's son,who took a keen interest in the
family business.
Bill was full of ideas andplayed a pivotal role in
Malley's expansion.
Under his leadership, whichbegan officially in 1967,
malley's not only increasedsales but also outgrew its
production facility, needing alarger factory.
Bill's wife, adele, also left amark on Malley's.
(02:01):
Known for her impeccableattention to detail and design,
adele revolutionized productpresentation and store layout.
Her influence was so profoundthat in 1983, she founded the
Malley School of Merchandisingto aid other businesses in
achieving similar success.
The couple's efforts did not gounnoticed.
(02:21):
Both were inducted into theCandy Hall of Fame in 2014, a
testament to their impact on theconfectionery industry.
They were recognized as masterchocolatiers by Retail
Confectionaries International,highlighting their lifelong
dedication to excellence inchocolate making.
Today, all six of theirchildren continue the family
(02:42):
