Speaker 1 (00:03):
Thank you so much for joining us.
Welcome back to CC Airwaves.

(00:31):
I'm Jen Cappsio and I'm PaigeMattillo.
We are excited for anotheredition of CC Airwaves' new
segment Word of the Month.
If you're not familiar with theWord of the Month, it is a
singular word designed toprovide comfort, encourage
reflection and serve as areminder of strength during
difficult times.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
We know that life can feel overwhelming and we wanted
to provide something small butmeaningful that you can carry
with you, a word to return towhen you need to recenter or
find peace, and this month we'rediscussing the word
perseverance, for this month, Idrew inspiration from August
birth flower, the gladiolus.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
This flower symbolizes strength, honor,
integrity and, of course,perseverance.
Its name comes from the Latinword gladius, meaning sword, due
to its long blade-like shape, and what makes this even more
fitting is that this flower isoften associated with
remembrance.
In ancient Rome, these flowerswere tossed into arenas during

(01:30):
gladiator games as a sign ofrespect for the fallen.
Gladiators even wore themaround their necks for
protection during battle.
That blend of strength andremembrance felt like the
perfect representation ofperseverance, especially in the
context of grief.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
The word perseverance has many meanings in the face
of grief, but we first want toshare a quote that has stuck out
to us and fits so well with ourtheme.
But what is grief if not love, persevering Vision from Marvel's
WandaVision.
Grieving is not fun, it'spainful, and there's no
sugarcoating that no one wantsto grieve and it is heavy aching

(02:05):
process that unfortunatelyhappens to all of us at some
point, especially in periods ofgrief.
It can feel impossible to seethe light in such a time, but we
grieve because we love sodeeply.
And that's exactly what thequote is saying that pain, as
unbearable as it may feel, is areflection of the love we still
carry for the ones that havepassed away.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
And, yeah, this quote reframes grief in such a
meaningful way.
What this quote is saying isthat that grief we are feeling
is actually just love for thatperson.
That grief is just lovetransformed.
It is a reminder that we lovethat person and that love
remains with us Love persevering.
This quote invites us to seegrief as a form of ongoing love

(02:48):
and not a burden.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
And I believe we've discussed this before even
though grief always starts assomething sad, and you know
we've always seen it assomething negative, I think that
this quote can maybe be aturning point for our listeners
and help them see it in a morepositive way.
I completely agree, paige.
So what else does perseverancemean in the context of grief?

(03:12):
Well, some days are easier, some feel impossible, but just
getting through each one andshowing up for your life, even
if you're hurting, that isperseverance.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
It's important to say healing doesn't mean forgetting
.
When you lose someone, movingforward can feel often like a
betrayal, but healing is not asign that you've stopped loving
them.
It takes incredible strength tolet yourself move forward and
hold onto their memory.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
And I think that there's a misconception when
someone passes away and you moveforward, that you're forgetting
them, and this is somethingthat we've talked a lot about.
You don't have to forgetsomeone to move forward.
You can hold on to them andmove forward as well.
There's so many activities thatwe can do that we've discussed

(04:00):
in our grief support groups thatcan allow you to do this.
So it's just something to keepin mind for the future.
And it does take perseveranceto keep someone's memory alive
without letting it consume you.
So there is a balance, andsometimes you think you've made
peace, until a memory, a scentor a moment pulls you right back

(04:20):
and those moments can feel likesetbacks.
But even in those waves, whenyou choose to keep going, you
are persevering.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Yeah, and I think a lot of people don't acknowledge
how much perseverance it takesto grieve.
Yes, it takes a lot to bestrong and move forward during
these difficult periods, but Ithink having that perseverance
is something that we need toacknowledge on how strong you
are and it's you're doingamazing when you are in those

(04:49):
periods of grief.
So that is all we have fortoday.
So thank you so much forjoining us for today's segment
of Word of the Month on CCAirwaves, and remember to take
the word perseverance with youthroughout the month.
Be sure to check out our lastmonth's segment, where we
discussed the word strength.
If you missed it, follow oursocial media and if you have any

(05:11):
topics you want us to discusson the podcast, send us a
message at cleesemorg or at anyof our social platforms.
