name here locally and excited to learnabout you and your business. So let's
kind of begin at the top.Could you explain to us what you do
at Perry Hearing Aid Service. Yes, of course, We've been in business
(00:46):
fifty five years, Aaron, andwhat we do is we test or examine
people's hearing and if they have ahearing loss, we recommend fitting of a
hearing instrument. However, if theyhave a conductive loss, then we recommend
them to a otolaryngologist so they canconsider having an operation that would bring their
(01:10):
hearing him back up. So youhave been here for a long time,
you said, bet, but fiftyfive years? Yes, yes, Where
are you currently located at? Rightacross the street? From Texas Roadhouse twenty
one forty seven Stumbo Road. Allright, it's located in the city of
Ontario. Yes, and you mentionedto me but you know off there.
But share of those listening people comefrom all over to see. Yes they
(01:34):
do, Yes, they come.Well, we have a service center in
Tiffin at Fabrizio's Chiropractic Center. Theycome as far as Mount Vernon, Mount
Gilead, Cardington, Busiris, allover the place. Joe Perry is the
voice you hear. He's visiting withus today, this week's CEO. You
should know. He is president andCEO of Perry Hearing Age Service. I
(02:00):
mentioned you've been here better than fiftyyears. Is there a story on how
you got into this, how allof this started? Yes, you know
in nineteen seventy the state law requireda license at a state license and I
started back in nineteen sixty five originally, and my girlfriend was in the hearing
aid business and there was no licensinglaw and her and her sister used to
(02:23):
go to Michigan and do these openhouses and that's how I got involved with
the hearing aid business. Now,let's step away from work a little bit
and find out a little bit moreabout you. So let's go back to
the beginning. If you would tellus where was Joe Perry Bourne. I
(02:43):
was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and I graduated Victory High School and
I did some other schooling. Lateron, I was in the real estate
and got my broker's license, andthen I realized that the hearing aids was
more suited for me than the realestate business, so I stayed in the
(03:04):
hearing aid business. Now, peoplemay want to know you were born to
West Virginia, but how'd you makeit to the Mansfield Highway. Well,
you know, there was a recessionback in Clarksburg. It was a coal
mining area, and my dad movedto Originally, he and I come up
to Cleveland, Ohio and stayed fora while. Then I ended up going
into the Air Force for four yearsand my dad brought the whole family up
(03:30):
to live in Cleveland, Ohio. All right, terrific to learn about Joe
Perry. Now, as we getback to work, how many staff members
do you guys have right now atPerry Hearing Each Their used to have a
lot because we used to have alot of consultants in the field. Decided
to be simple. I have anoffice manager and myself. Once in a
(03:51):
while, my son has a hearingaid office in Mount Vernon, he'll come
up and help me. Other thanthat, it's about two or three Keep
it's simple, Joe. As welearn about your company, Perry Hearing Aid
Service, I'm sure from when youstarted to now that there's so many different
options right now when it comes tosomebody coming to see you and in what
(04:12):
type of hearing aid or device theymight be able to get. Yes,
we have the one behind the earand they're programmable digital. That means next
year, if you're hearing changes, all we have to do is do a
new test and reprogrammed the hearing aid. We have the ones that fit in
the ear, and we have theones that you just charge up every night.
(04:32):
You don't have to replace batteries. And I'm sure, as I mentioned,
from when you started to now, technology has changed so much. All
that's right. They used to havethe big ones behind the ear and they
were solid state, so they couldn'tbe changed. Once you ran out of
the volume going up, you hadto get a new hearing aid and they
(04:54):
were all solid state. They couldn'tbe programmed. Joe, Perry's the voice
you hear today. Spending a fewminutes with us this morning. This week's
CEO you should know he is Presidentand CEO of Perry Hearing Aid Service.
So we talk about your business andwe talk about all the people you're able
to help, and you think aboutyour hearing, how important that is.
(05:15):
How does it work? Do theyjust make an appointment to come in,
you go through the hearing test, because you kind of will walk us through
the process if somebody's never been tosee you before. Yeah, what we
do is they fill out of paperand then we test their hearing and we
recommend what they should do about it, and then we put a hearing instrument
on them right there and then weprogram it to their loss and they can
(05:38):
see exactly how they heard when theyfirst come in and how they're hearing now
and they make a decision based uponthat. We keep as simple as we
can, and this is the processfor the test pretty quick, coming to
take very long to attach, abouta half hour to do the testing,
and we do pure tone air andthen we do own conduction. Then we
(06:00):
go from there. All right.Terrific to learn again about Joe Perry,
President CEO Perry Hearing Aid Service thisweek's CEO. You should know a few
more questions while we're visiting with youhere today. So we learned about where
you're from, a high school andall of that, and how you got
to the area. If you wouldtell us a bit more about Joe Perry
and the family. Well, myparents, of course we had there was
(06:21):
eight children in the family, andall the boys decided to go into business
themselves because my dad was in businessin West Virginia, had a cold trucks
and so we learned from him thatyou could be in your own business.
So that's that's what we learned fromthat. Now, how about spare time
(06:46):
away from work when you're not working. It sounds like you're working all the
time. But when you're not working, do you have any hobbies? Arrest
a lot? And also I loveto play golf, So every Friday morning
we try to play golf of LittleApple and have some fun that way.
And I followed baseball, of course. I was a catcher in high school
(07:08):
and played baseball there in an AmericanLegion ball. So I played ball for
about twelve years all together as acatcher, And so I followed the Cleveland,
Indians, not the Guardians. Ifollow them and I like baseball,
all right, terrific to learn thismorning about Joe Perry again joining us in
(07:29):
studio for a few more minutes. So we talked about, you know,
different products and things like that whenit comes to somebody coming to see you
at Perry Hearing Aids services. Thereanything else we missed it that people should
know about you guys. Well,we have Miracle Ear only we're franchised Miracle
Ear. We don't have various hearingaid products. We have one kind that's
(07:53):
a Miracle ear. Miracle Air hasover fourteen hundred stores throughout the United States.
So if we fit to you hereand you go to Florida in the
winter and you need service, yougo to the local Miracles here a place
and they take care of you. That's a big asset, you know.
Instead of being an independent you havestores around the country that can call you
and say, we have somebody comingin your area and here's their name.
(08:18):
Give them a call so you cantake care of him. So maybe somebody
spends you know, winners down inFlorida, but they're here in the summer,
they'd come see you then, right, that's right. Okay, that's
good now, Joe. How aboutmore information? Somebody here's your voice this

on this bad anything else you wantto share? I learned with people when
I worked for my brother out ofColumbus. He was district manager of PF.
