(00:00):
The CEO you should know, broughtto you by Robie Foster Miller Eric Insurance.
This week CEO Jordan Worthman, vicepresident of Business Development at Purty Construction,
joining us in studio today and we'regonna shine the spotlight on Purty Construction.
(00:20):
We have joining us Jordan Worthman, who is the VP, vice president
of business Development. Jordan, goodmorning, Good morning here, and thanks
for having me. Thank you, yeah, thank you for coming in.
I've heard your name and we've allheard We've seen the truck's Pretty Construction,
So excited to begin there. Andwhat's need? Is this year pretty exciting
(00:41):
for you guys? Right? Yesit is. Yep. We're celebrating our
one hundred year anniversary this year.I bought that, so it started in
nineteen twenty three. Actually, thevery first project that Pretty Construction did in
town, the reason that we becamea construction company is still standing. The
viaduct that you go under where thirtyand forty two meet going into downtown Mansfield
(01:02):
actually is the reason that Parties cameto town. West Party came to town
was for that project. So it'sstill standing today. So I think we
look pretty good for a hundred yearsold. All right, terrific. All
right, So let's begin. Youmentioned one hundred years. Where are you
guys located at the area. We'reat two hundred East Longview Avenue right by
thirty forty five. All right,so you mentioned in town for one hundred
(01:27):
years. Kind of what's the reachof the company. How far do you
expand outside of Mansfield multiple counties,I would assume, Yeah, so we
will typically travel around sixty miles sixtyseventy miles. We like to stay in
town, so everybody sees our trucksaround here, but we'll travel for some
of the companies we work for. Now, how long have you been involved
(01:51):
with the business. So I've beenthere since twenty fifteen, which is a
year after I graduated high school. And I just kind of started out in
a laborer there and then as Iyou know, started to understand some of
the more larger roles and responsibilities, grew into those, and now pretty much
focus on the development side of constructionand you know, customer retention and attraction.
(02:16):
Now, when you talk about prettyconstruction in terms of a year,
do you have the amount of projects? I'm sure it's a lot that you
guys work on I'm sure it canvary year to year. Some years can't
be busier than others. But asyou mentioned, people see you guys all
over town, you seem to bebusy. What what's what's a normal kind
of year? Um from you know, from a job standpoint, we'll typically
(02:38):
get between two hundred and fifty andthree hundred projects complete in a year.
Wow, tremendous one. All right, So you again are the vice president
of business development, but this hasfamily ties to correct. Yeah, yeah,
yeah. So my parents purchased PrettyConstruction in two thousand and six and
(02:59):
they've owned ever since, and werecently actually just merge with another local company.
So that's something we're really excited about. All right, So big news.
There a lot of excitement now interms of projects for you guys,
Party Construction. Somebody may say, hey, you know, what all do
you do? Is it? Iguess what all do you guys build?
(03:19):
So we typically fall into the categoryof I couldn't get somebody else to quote
this for me, but it's it'sa fun place to be. We get
to work on some of the moreexciting projects in the county. We recently
just redid the bank revetment for theMansfield Reformatory, the historic Reformatory. We're
partnering with Buckeye Imagination Museum to doan exhibit there. We're really excited to
start the work there. We're stringinglights for downtown Mansfield near the Breakyard so
(03:46):
that we kind of spruce the placeup for Final Fridays and the events they
have down there. So it's funbeing tied into the community and we like
being the call when nobody else wantsto answer. All right, terrific.
Didn't know all the local projects youguys have going on. We're chatting this
morning with Jordan Worthman again. Heis this week's CEO. You should know
he is with Pretty Construction, vicepresident of business Development. All right,
(04:10):
so the story got started in nineteentwenty three, as you mentioned, pretty
cool to say you're one hundred yearsold. And when you talk about staff,
I'm sure it can vary in termsof projects and you know, subcontractors
things like that, But could youballpark employees for you guys? So yeah,
right now we have around eighteen employees, but between the different projects we
(04:34):
work on, there's subcontractors just abouteverywhere and doing something for us. All
right, great, Well, let'sstep away from work and find out a
little bit more about you. Ifound out some of this before we started.
But let's step back to the beginningand find out where was Jordan Worthman
born as I was born right herein man It's good, Ohio? All
right? Born in Mansfield. Where'dyou go to high school? Madison?
(04:57):
All right? So a ram afterhigh school? Tell us about that.
I know you're working now with prettyconstruction, but tell us you graduate at
Madison to where you are now?So graduated, decided I wanted to try
to go to college, did thatfor two years and kind of realized that
my passion was keeping with my lastname and coming back to the family business
(05:18):
and seeing what I can do.I'm going to have been there ever since
after high school? Were there otheraspirations where you? I mean? Or
was it always thinking I'm probably goingto get into family business? Yeah?
I think it was always the tieback end. I really enjoy the Mansfield
and Richson County community. All right, Great, now as we talk about
you, I know you told memarried and kids, but if you would
(05:42):
share with those listening a little bitmore about Jordan and the family. Yeah,
So I've been married now for threeyears, and I've got a little
girl who's coming up on her secondbirthday, and then we've got another kid
on the way. He'll be bornin the September October region. All right,
So work, family, busy, busy time for you. But hang
(06:02):
on. You told me you doa lot locally, you give back here
in the community. To tell usyou're on multiple boards, right, yeah,
I try to be. I'll goanywhere they accept me. I really
enjoy being involved in the nonprofit spacein the civic space. So I sit
on a couple of different boards intown. I am currently the president of
(06:24):
the rich and Young Professionals. I'mthe vice president of the Mansfield Reformatory Preservation
Society. I'm on the executive committeefor the Habitat for Humanity of Richland and
Crawford County, and I just recentlygot appointed to the Board of Directors for
the Richland County Mental Health and RecoveryServices Board. And then my final seat
(06:45):
is with the Chamber of Commerce asan ex officio member by way of the
Young Professionals. All right, Somy next question for Jordan Worthman is what
do you do when you're not working? And it sounds like you kind of
give back, right, But doyou have any hobbies if you in any
spare time, whether it's golf, whether it's travel, vacation, what do
you like to do if if youget a little spare time. Um,
(07:05):
it's really honestly, I love beingat home with my wife, with my
daughter. That's where I get myjoy. And I really like to spend
the most of my time. Andshe'll tell you that it's not enough because
I'm out and about all the timedoing something. But that's that's what I
do. All right. Terrific tolearn this morning about Jordan Worthman, this
week's CEO. You should know aswe shine the spotlight on pretty Construction celebrating
(07:30):
one hundred years here in Mansfield,he's the VP vice president of business Development.
All right, So as we getback to work and you mentioned,
you know lights downtown. Boy,there's a lot of excitement in Mansfield,
Richland County all across with all theimprovement projects they're Boy, there's there are
a lot of cool things going on. There are a ton of great things
going on in Mansfield in Richland Countyarea, and it's it's really exciting being
(07:55):
involved. You get to be apart of the discussions. Being in construction,
you get to be a part ofthat is discussions maybe a little bit
before anybody else gets to know aboutthem. And that's the exciting part about
what we do. So I haven'ttalked with anybody really in the construction field
recently, and I know when youthink about the pandemic, it was so
challenging to get materials. How arethings now for um, it's it's better.
(08:18):
Lead times are still crazy. Ithink we're still recovering from from the
supply drop off, if you will, But it is things are coming back
to us. All right, that'sterrific to hear. Now, before I
let you go, if somebody's like, hey, I got a question.
I'm thinking about a project. Iwant more information, how do they reach
out to get the ball rolling withperty? Yeah? I think you see
(08:39):
a truck driving down the street, just flag them down like that. I
like that. You know what's gonnahappen now? Yeah, I know.
I know. I'm gonna be drivingdown Park av You're gonna get out in
front of me. Um. Now, the numbers on the side all the
trucks, it's four four, two, four nine one. We're on Facebook,
our website is pretty con as inconstruction dot com. You can find
(09:01):
us there. There's plenty of waysto reach out. I try to be
everywhere I can, so just flagme down if you see me any I
mean carrier pigeon smoke signals, willtake it all. All right? Well,
I love it Now? Did Imiss anything about Pretty Construction? Something
we miss? People should know aboutyou guys. I know you love to
