Speaker 1 (00:00):
CEOs you should know here from local leaders in the community,
made possible by Witcom and Hess CPAs and Financial Advisors
are featured CEO this week. We are excited as we
are going to talk with Gary frank House, co owner
of My Floors kitchen and bathroom remodeling located in Gallion.

(00:21):
I know they help people all over the area, so
we are excited to learn about them and more about
their story. Gary. First of all, good morning, and thanks
for coming in.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Good morning Erin.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Yeah, I appreciate you. I know I've met your brother.
First time I've had a chance to talk with you,
so really excited. I told you I grew up in
Crawford County, so I've known the name. I've known about
the business. So if somebody is new to the area
and we're getting people moved new to the area all
the time, tell us a little bit about what you
guys do at your company.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
So My Floors we do carpet, luxury, vinyl, tiles, planks, ceramics, woods,
really every flooring you can imagine we do. It. Even
been known to find floorings for people that you know
are out there from places that aren't even in our area.
So that's our main focus, and then about fifteen years
ago we expanded into bathrooms and so we got into

(01:13):
the process of building these custom, elaborate shower systems that
you see in homes, and from the pary to homes
those fancy showers, it's become a real niche. We have
what I call artists on staff, three different guys that
they're not tile guys, they're artists. I mean the detail
that they put into it, it's phenomenal. And then we

(01:34):
added with that, because cabinets were doing vanities in these bathrooms,
we became a kitchen remodeler as well about eight ten
years ago now. So pretty much anything that you can
imagine on the interioror home, we.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Do awesome to learn about. Gary Frankaus again co owner
with his brother Steve, of my floorist, kitchen and bathroom remodeling.
All right, so I say you're based in Galleon.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Correct, that is our home base.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Yes, but I know you have to help people all over,
So give me the coverage area for you.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Again, Northern Columbus, Southern Cleveland and everything in between. I mean,
it really is that big of a span. I do
a lot of work in the Mount Vernon Delaware area
up in the Willard, Norwalk, Mansfield, Lexington, Ontario Galleon, so
pretty much that northern Ohio.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
And Gary, as we jump in, you told me off
the ear, go ahead and share with our listeners. This
has family ties. So do we have late like like
when this all got started. I would love to hear
the story.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Okay, get ready, because we're coming up on the famous
Michigan Ohio State game and we're native Michiganers, so that
makes me a Michigan fan. And I know everybody's going
to be against me on that one, but don't but
don't because we moved here when I was two. My
brother went to Ohio State. My dad actually came to
Ohio to work with my mom's parents who were starting

(02:59):
a paint wall paper store. So I say that, and
some of you may know us as Prince and Paints.
That was our former name. We don't sell paint or
wallpaper anymore. But my dad had moved to Ohio to
help them start a store down in the Newerk area.
And kind of funny, my mom for years listening to
him say he wanted to always start his own business
and he had gone back because his dad owned a

(03:19):
store in Monroe, Michigan, where we're from. So they were
going on a vacation. My dad went up to run
that store while they were on vacation. When he came home,
my mom sold the house. So she's like, you always
said you want to your own business, so let's go
find a place. And we landed in Gallion, Ohio, back
in nineteen seventy seven, so that's how we got there.
I was eight, I think Steve was five, so we've
grown up around the business. We didn't really work in

(03:41):
it other than when we wanted a bike or we
wanted we had to earn money, so we had to
go in in stock paint or do something like that,
put wallpaper rolls away. But we really had no intentions
of being in the business. And he said, well, why
don't we both go back and grow the business, And
so we pitched that to my mom and dad. One
day we asked him to drive to Columbus and here
we are. You know, like I said, we've gone from

(04:03):
paint and wallpaper to flooring and now the bathrooms and
the kitchens. So it's been quite a journey.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah. Again, we're talking this morning with Gary Frankause, co
owner of my floors, kitchen and bathroom remodeling. Again based
in Galley, but help people all across the state of Ohio.
So officially the year that the company started.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
It was August of nineteen seventy seven.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Okay, August of nineteen seventy seven. Is we learn about
you guys, we talk about the business you talked about.
You just have some incredible people working for you. You
love the reputation, right because once you, guys do a
great job, somebody else notices that. Right. You got to
love the reputation.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
That's how it works. I mean, that's how you stay
in business this long. And it's all about relationships, you know.
It starts with our people. We have twenty seven people
we employ our installers, and that's unique. I mean, I
bet you if you looked across the country, less than
twenty percent of stores like us do that. And we
think that's kind of our unique selling proposition because it
differentiates us. We truly care about the details. And when

(05:03):
you're in someone's home, it's amazing the detail. It's different
in the commercial world. You can get away with a
lot of things, but not in the you know, in
the residential world. So we decided years ago to do that,
and it's just been that's been the difference maker because
our guys just do an amazing job of completing a sale,
Like sales start in the store, but they finish in

(05:23):
the home. And our guys are just so respectful of
people's homes and the way they just prepare things with
cardboard and papers and just sweep when they leave a job,
they care about the home and it's so it's a
relationship there, and then the relationship evolves into people telling people.
I mean, we have over twenty thousand people in our
customer base, and I attribute to you know, we're not perfect.

(05:46):
No one is on this earth. Only one person ever
walked this earth perfect. But you know, we try really
hard and we make it right. Doesn't mean we get
it right maybe the first time, but we're gonna get
it right. So I think it's all about relationship. It's
it's been the core or that my dad started it
with because literally, like I said, we moved to Galley
in this area from Michigan, we didn't know a soul,

(06:07):
and the first person that walked in the store told
my dad he wouldn't make it. So this August when
we start that fiftieth year.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
We made it awesome. Great to hear the story this
morning of my floors, kitchen and bathroom remodeling. We are
talking with one of their co owners and that is
Gary Frankause also his brother Steve frank House owning and
running the company, and we talk about you know, all
you guys have done, and you know, I've been on
social media and I saw some of the photos maybe

(06:36):
you guys have shared, and that's the one thing you'd
encourage people, right, probably go to your website. Let's go
ahead and give them that. I mean, check out some
photos some great work you guys have done, right, because
you're gonna love it.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
It looks like it's amazing. We have a i'll call
it an album on there that one of the girls
in the store keeps up to date. But our sales staff,
we've got designers on staff, so if you need the
designer aspect, but you know, just general salespeople too that
know the ins and outs of flooring. They're there to
help and you know, they just do a great job
and it's so much fun to put those out there.

(07:06):
We had a TV up with a lot of those
pictures scrolling it's just fun to take people to it
and say, I mean, look at that before and look
at that after. I mean, it's.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Artwork, awesome. I get. I love to hear the story
of a great local company. We're doing that this morning
with Gary Frankhause, co owner of My Floors kitchen and
bathroom remodeling, again based in Gallleon. But to help people
all across the state of Ohio, let's give them the website.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Gary, my Floor's Ohio dot com. My Floor'sohio dot com.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
All right, Myfloorsohio dot com. And so again we're talking
with Gary Frankhaus, one of the co owners of the company.
You mentioned the website there. I'm sure they could just
get the ball rolling right. They want they want to
check out what they're looking for, but they want to
talk to somebody when they want to get the process started.
That would probably be the easiest place to start, right.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
It's always easy to call in. Sue will greet you.
She'll get you directed to whether it's sales or whether
it's installation questions. But the numbers four one nine, four
six two five six six.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Three all right again check them out over And gallion,
online he mentioned and give them a telephone call WHILE
i have you. Here how about in terms of, employees
because you, KNOW i threw the question at you do you,
guys you, know contract and work with, people and you're, like, oh,
no go ahead and tell us a little bit about your.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Employees so the story goes that we had expanded back
in ninety, eight took the building next to, us doubled our.
Size we're really moving forward into the flooring from the
paint and, wallpaper and we had one subcontract, group and
my brother AND i, decided you know what we need
to because of the attention to detail, needed we need
to have people that are in it with. Us and

(08:39):
so we started employing. Guys and we had just, graduated you,
know from, College so we had a lot of guys
in the area that were going into the trades and
we convinced them to come work with. Us and several
of those guys are still with us today and they're phenomenal.
Artists LIKE i, said so we employ those, guys and
then on the sales, staff LIKE i, said we've brought
in some designers and just got a great supporting staff

(09:00):
from you, Know there's a lot more that happens in
a business than just selling and. DOING i, mean there's there's,
purchasing there's, accounting there's logistics of. Scheduling several years, AGO
i was The Economic development director For Crawford county and
we were doing these wage tours trying to get kids
in the schools out to see what goes on in,
businesses and it's just. AMAZING i THINK i counted like
just twelve different occupations within our, store and people were

(09:24):
amazed when you start telling, them you, know just all
the different things that happen in these small businesses here
in Central. Ohio so it's wonderful what you guys are
doing and getting a focus on those small. Businesses.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
YEAH i love to shine the spotlight on local. Companies
and you, know people may know the, name they get
to hear from somebody that maybe helps run the, company
owns the, company but love to hear the story and
all of. That do you have a ballpark in terms
of employees.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Or we have twenty seven employees twenty seven To it'll
vary at, times like usually around the holiday seasons we'll ramp.
Up we have a wonderful relationship With pioneer where we're
bringing the seniors into work with our. GUYS i created
kind of a career path where we have basically helpers senior,
helpers and then you become where you become a, leader
and then you become a, trainer and there's different wage

(10:09):
groups and based on your skill. Sets but that. CONNECTION
i have three different kids From pioneer working with me right,
now and they're there from six point thirty in the
morning when our guys go out and they get to
work with these senior. Guys so it's a way to
really teach the trade with some background that they're gaining From.
Pioneer that's a wonderful resource in our. Area and encourage
a lot of businesses to look into that because there's

(10:31):
also some tax incentives from the. State it's called the
work Based learning. Credits SO i would encourage you to
get a hold Of pioneer and look into the things
they're doing and see if you can connect some of those.
Students we've been doing it for about four or five
years now and it's been a wonderful.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Experience, yeah that's really, cool And i'm really helping them
in their career right is there coming along in high
school they work with. You that's great.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Experience, oh it's phenomenal and they and some of them
decide they don't like, it which is a great, time
but most of them have actually stayed on, because like
by employing, them you, know we're contributing to their four
one case and we're paying half of their health. Insurance
And i'm an, accountant AS i had, mentioned A, cpa
and so LIKE i dive into the importance of financial

(11:11):
planning with them Because i'll tell, them you, know your
job will earn your, wage but it won't make you.
Rich it's the compounding and the. Investing and So i'm
trying to teach these young kids this pathway for. Success
and you, know our area needs, that and the schools
do a great job of getting him. Educated but you,
KNOW i think it's our job as business owners to
continue that for these students that are coming.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
Out that's awesome to hear what you're doing with your
company students in the area as. Well we'll keep them
for a few more. Minutes great conversation this morning With Gary,
frankhaus one of the co owners Of My floor's kitchen
and bathroom, remodeling and they are based In, galleon but
it can help people all over the state Of. Ohio all,
right so we learn all about the. Business what you guys.

(11:53):
Do let's step away a little, bit find out a
bit about. You, actually you gave a little bit away.
Earlier so if that's, okay it's all, right it's all.
Right somebody missed it. Earlier they don't know you weren't
born In. Ohio but just give us a little. Bit
where you're, from what part Of, michigan that kind of.
Thing just tell us a little bit about.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
You SO i claimed To, michigan BUT i only lived
there for two. Years it Was, Monroe, michigan just over
the border outside Of, toledo and then we moved to
The newark, area went to kindergarten there and then moved To.
Gallleon So i'm a graduate Of galleon of first grade
through high. School left, there went To Miami. University got
my accounting degree, there and what a wonderful. School shout
out To miami Of. OHIO i think they're recognized as

(12:31):
in the top five for the most CEOs in the.
Country so just a wonderful business. Program learned so much,
there went into public, accounting did my two years past the,
exam and you have to work two in public or
five in, private AND i did my two and THEN
i ended up at my floors and at the time
it Was prince And. Paints but you, know LIKE i,
said we've changed that to my floor's kitchen and bathroom.

(12:52):
Modeling and that's HOW i ended up here.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Today you, know thinking about that going to, school you,
know in the company and all. That having that bad
ground in accounting has to be huge in the business, world,
right you, know it's.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
The language of. Business the beautiful thing about my brother
AND i you, said we're co. Owners LIKE i look
at business as a. Chair there's four. Legs there's, finance, operation,
marketing and. Sales i'm kind of that financial and operations,
guy and he's that marketing in, sales and it's it's
what you need and you can share that load because
it's tough to do all. FOUR i, mean some of

(13:24):
us are really, good but we're not that.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Good, well it's funny everybody spent. Me you, Know i'm
a sports. GUY i know you are as. Well but
you can think about.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
It.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Everybody you, know think about a coaching. Staff everybody has
something specific they're good. At you put it. Together gary
makes a great.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Team oh it's all about team. Together everyone achieves. More
SO i use my. SPORTS i actually walked on and
played baseball At miami for a couple of years and
then realized their accounting program is, hard SO I i
had to focus. In but you, know sports is JUST
i love to see students or people That i'm looking
to hire come in with that background because perseverance and

(13:58):
the ability to work through. HARDSHIP i, mean that is.
SPORTS i MEAN i listen to you on the radio
Every friday, night and you guys do an awesome. Job
BUT i just can't speak to like what happens behind
the scenes and sports and how it builds a. Person
it's just it's phenomenal for character and all the things
someone's going to need in their.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Life, no it's. PERFECT i mean you said that. Perfectly
you think, about you, know what coaches do for kids
as they're growing throughout high. School they look up to.
Coaches you talk, about you know what student athletes learn
you know on a football, field basketball, court track and,
field whatever it might, Be and how you can apply
that gary to.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Life, oh it's. HUGE i have four. KIDS i didn't
mention that beautiful. Wife that's a speech. Pathologist but you,
know we've had them all in, sports three, boys and
THEN i have a daughter in eighth. Grade the boys
have since. Graduated but just to watch my daughter and
see how sports has evolved for women and it's, awesome
and just her ability to endure is. Amazing LIKE i
watched her play both soccer and volleyball and get a's

(14:56):
in school and just that work. Ethic it just teaches
you so. Much to, me it's.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Sports great conversation this morning BEFORE i let him. Go
Gary frankause again our guest co owner along with his
Brother Steve, frankause Of My, floors kitchen and bathroom, remodeling
again based In, galleon but helping people all across the
state Of. OHIO i didn't ask, you and are you
guys hiring right? Now if, Not i'm sure you're always
looking for good.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
People we are always looking for good. People so with
an installation, side we've got a sales, side and we've
got that support. Side be thinking about, us and be
thinking about a lot of small. Businesses you'd be surprised
what goes on in this. AREA i, mean business is
bigger than you. Think and LIKE i, SAID i mean
there's like twelve different positions we employ in our. Business

(15:41):
so don't look past the small.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
Business if they want to reach, out they're looking for
a job with a great company Like My, floors how
do they get?

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Started the website My floor's ohio dot. Com like we mentioned,
earlier the phone number once again four one nine for
six two five six six' three located on the west
Side and galleon Out by Pietez Hutten burger king stop
in see. The. Place have we just had a couple
Up from Westerville Because marl county is just moving this
way and that's a good thing for. THIS area i

(16:12):
could go on a whole tangent about Economic development route
thirty and the opportunities that are coming this way from my,
past experience but we just had a lady Up, from
westerville just, blown away like, she's like what are you
guys doing? Up here and because we're part of WHAT'S,
called cca We're A flooring. America dealer there's fifteen hundred
dealers like us in the country and they do wonderful

(16:33):
things with merchandising and give us, an advice, buying. Power
financing they give us all those strengths that you wouldn't
think of that small businesses, would have but we have
them through this co op and she was just. Blown away,
she's like there's nothing like this Even. In COLUMBUS and
i look at that as a pretty big Honor because
columbus is one of the fastest growing cities in, the

(16:53):
country so that was kind. Of Special so i'd encourage
you to. Stop in it's worth.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
The, drive well and again you're kind of Going where
i'm going at the end Here Again, gary frankause co
Owner My floor's kitchen and, bathroom remodeling again Based. In
gallon we talk about helping. PEOPLE everywhere, i mean that's a.
Great compliment, you know somebody coming up from a Place like,
columbus saying, You know i've never. Seen anything, you know
like what you? Guys do what would you like to
leave our? Listeners with and you just mentioned if you've

(17:18):
never been, there before you have to. Stop in but,
you know the quality work and they really need to
come talk to you guys to kind of get the ball.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Rolling, Right yeah but you Know what i'd really say
it is. This relationship even THAT example i just gave
with the Girl from westerbille that was a relationship built
that brought. Those people and, you know we build relationships.
BY listening i preach that to my people all. The
time it's not about you, telling them it's about you
listening and then helping them find what they're telling you.
They want we just have a slogan helping you with

(17:46):
your own, great taste and that's really that. Old's true
so it's our job, to listen to build that relationship
and then just take it from there with the quality
and everything else that then is expected and. People deserve, all.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
Right now gear one, more time give us Website For
my floors and the phone number if somebody wants to
reach out talk to one of your great people and
get started on a.

Speaker 2 (18:05):

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today.
