Speaker 1 (00:00):
CEOs you should know here from local leaders in the community,
made possible by Witcom and hess CPAs and Financial Advisors.
Our featured CEO this week is Michelle angel Bach, who
is the Chief Executive Officer CEO of Ohio Eastern Star
Home and we are excited to learn about her and
(00:22):
her organization. Michelle, good morning, and thank you for coming in.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Good morning, Thank you for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yeah, I don't know a lot about your organization, just
having you, and so I know I am. Our listeners
are thrilled to learn about you. So share with us
all about you, guys.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
So, the Ohio Eastern Star Home is located in Mount Vernon, Ohio,
and we are what is called a continuing care retirement community,
which means we have all levels of senior care. So
we have independent living if you are just living your
life the best that you can be. But if you
have some kind of a healthcare emergency, we've got you.
(00:57):
We can take care of that. We have assisted living,
we have neighborhood nursing home living, we have a short
term rehabilitation center. So we have got all levels of
care and we can help you in whatever stage you
need of your healthcare journey. If you are fifty five
years and older.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Okay, all right, so how long have you guys been
in operation?
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Over seventy years?
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Wow? Yeah, and you told me the only one here
in the state. Text tell us a little bit about that.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah, So the Ohio Eastern Star Home. There are probably
about a half a dozen throughout the nation, but we
are the only one in the state of Ohio. So
we are a standalone company. We are the only one.
We're very proud of it. We don't have a corporate office.
We do everything ourselves on our sixty acre campus and
we love it.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Okay, terrific. Now, how long have you been with the organization.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I've been there for a little over thirteen years.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Okay, all right, good we're going to learn again more
about Michelle and her company this morning, Ohio Eastern Star Home.
Michelle engelback, the chief executive officer. You say you're located
in Mount Vernon. We're at painis a picture where you
at Montree.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
So we are exactly two miles from Kenyon University en
route two twenty nine. We sit up on top of
a beautiful hill in a rural setting, lots of woods, trees,
walking paths. It's just absolutely gorgeous. There is a problem
with deer every once in a while, but we get
through it.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
There's a lot of deer everywhere, right, yeah, well here
now as you talk about that sounds like a beautiful
setting for residents. You mentioned fifty five and older, and
you help so many people, but it just sounds beautiful, right.
I'm sure you know it's going very serene.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
It's very it's nice to walk through the pass and
see the trees turning and all very well maintained.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
We are learning again this morning about Ohio Eastern Star
Homes CEOs you should know, and our featured CEO this
week is Michelle Engelbach, who is the chief executive officer there.
So you're located in Mount Vernon, Knox County, But how
far do people like come, you know, to live there?
That tell us a little bit about your coverage area.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Sure, so we do pull from some of the surrounding counties.
We are the only not for profit continuing care retirement
community in Knox County, so we do pull from other
areas because it is a desirable location and it fits
the needs of a lot of elders and seniors in
our area. So we draw from all over the state,
(03:19):
all over several states.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Actually, Now, how many people at one given time can
live there? I mean you have a ballpark figure here?
How many?
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Well, well, actually, we are expanding right now. We're in
the middle of a new independent senior living expansion called
Pine Hill, and that's building. We've got some apartments. We've
got two bedroom, two bath apartments, and then now we're
in the process of building some patio homes on our
campus as well. And so pine Hill is the newest
thing for us, and it is super exciting and super amazing.
(03:51):
And we have an open house coming up in December,
and I would love for people to come out and
see what we do. There are a lot of people
in this area that don't know what the continuing care
retirement community is, and they don't know the benefits of
it and the benefits of having living on a campus
where you can go to the fitness center, you can
go to a massage therapy class, you can go to
(04:12):
a yoga class. You can do all these things and
never have to leave the campus. That's all right.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
There, Yeah, very convenient, very convenience. Now, do you want
to share with us? We can circle back to this later.
Would be great to come out to you know, see
you guys take a two or all of that. When
is that event in December?
Speaker 2 (04:29):
It is December the fourth, in the afternoon from four
to six. It's open to the public.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
With that on the calendar for December the fourth. Michelle
Engelbach is with us Ohio Eastern Star Home are featured CEO.
You should know this week. So how about staff? I know,
I talked to so many different people on this program
each week and they always tell me, you know, to
have a great organization, you got to have a great staff.
So tell us, absolutely tell us about your staff and
(04:55):
how many do you have on.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Se So we have a probably around two hundred staff
members and they are amazing. We get accolades consistently from
families and from residents in our community that just love
our staff. It's a very family fun feel and we
are all peers. We all do what we need to
do to make the residents happy and have them live
(05:18):
their best life.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
All it's good to get that good feedback. Absolutely all right, yes, now,
I know right now you're pretty good in terms of staff.
But you told me we're always looking for good people
so that they could reach out if somebody's interested in.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Oh, oh, heck yes, if you've got a heart for caring
for senior citizens, we want you at our place because
we are the best place around. We have the most
fun and it's just a great place.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
So how would somebody apply? Would they go online? Would
they stop in? How do they apply?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
All of the above? Okay? Oh yes, home dot org
is where you can apply. There is a tab on
there to put an application or stop, buy and see us.
We love to just sit down and welcome you and
talk to you and show off our place.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
All right, again, you can go online and get more
information oshome dot org. Again, we're talking with Ohio Eastern
Star Home chief executive Officer Michelle Engelbach in studio with us.
All right, so we're gonna step away from work and
find out a little bit more about you. So we
found thirteen years with the organization, but we don't know
(06:22):
where you were born, where you're from, high school college.
So tell us a little bit about the Michelle's story.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Well, so in the middle of Ohio, I live in Columbus,
but I am from the state of Michigan. So I'm
the person that's going to run around yelling go bluey
and have a lot of fun with that, right, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
We've been having a lot of fun recently.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
I have had a ton of fun recently.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
So how'd you make it down to Ohio?
Speaker 2 (06:46):
So? I went to Bowling Green State University and I
have been in the senior care environment for over forty
years and just love it and incredibly passionate about senior
care and creating the best life for them and helping
them to live their best life.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
All right, So a Falcon want to be gas? I? Yeah, Yeah,
I was up there. I go up there quite a
bit for like tournament basketball and things like that. Campus
a lot of improvements, a lot of great things going.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
A lot different than.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Now growing up? Was that always your aspiration to go
kind of into this field, did you think? Or was
it not necessarily?
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Now? When I was in high school, I worked in
a nursing home as a nursing assistant, fell absolutely in
love with it, fell in love with the seniors, and
decided that that's what I wanted to do the rest
of my life. And that's what I've been doing. All right.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Well, it sounds like you have a lot of fun,
You enjoy what you do in helping people, as we
learned the story this morning of Michelle engelback again, chief
executive officer Ohio Eastern Star Home. So I don't know,
married children, tell us a bit about Michelle and the family.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
So, yes, married for thirty three years, have step children,
have a daughter, a couple of grand babies, all living
near us.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Fun good now away from work. Hobbies that you and
I were talking off era, not a lot of free time.
You're busy, but I'm sure free time has family and
things like that. I don't tell us a little bit.
What do you like to do?
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Just a lot of family. And my husband and I
have recently picked up glamping, and so we do a
little bit of that every once in a while. We
have a camper trailer and get away every once in
a while and do that.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
All right, glamping, you said.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Glamping, Yes, because it's not a camper.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Okay, it is a.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Camper, but it feels like a cabin on wheels.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Okay, all right. Nice, able to travel around a little
bit then see different places. Then all right, terrific. Well
let's get back to work before I let you go.
This morning been a great conversation learning about Michelle engelback
again with Ohio Eastern Star Home are featured CEO. You
should know she's the chief executive officer, so located in
Mount Vernon. And as we learn a little bit more
(08:55):
about you guys, you mentioned a little bit earlier some
of kind of the amenities do you want to share?
Tell you a little more about some of the things
you offer.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Yeah, So the really the best part about Pine Hill
and the expansion that we're doing is if you are
a senior couple and you both move in together into
independent living, and then one has a healthcare crisis, you
can move that person can go into the healthcare center
and live in that area to recuperate, to do whatever,
or perhaps stay there. But then you as the remaining spouse,
(09:25):
We have a connector hallway that you can get from
your apartment, your independent living apartment, onto the campus to
visit every day, back and forth. And in the middle
of January which is coming with all this bad weather,
you never have to go outside. And that is the
beauty of our campuses that we keep everybody connected. We
keep everybody going where they want to go, doing what
(09:46):
they want to do with the amenities again all under
one roof. You never have to go outside.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah, you keep loved ones together. You mentioned you don't
have to go outside. Awesome. Do you have like a
hopeful completion date on your on your own.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Part, Well, part of it is completed already. The apartments
are open, the patio homes, some of them are open,
and we're just continuing to build and add on a
few more as we go. So come and see what
we have to offer on December the fourth, take a tour,
see what it's all about. Learn about our campus and
all the amenities that we have and the great healthcare
services that we provide.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Well, you mentioned great healthcare, and that's important. I was
on your website and looking you know different people, you know,
you know, medical director and things like that. Boy, it's
nice to have those right there at the facility.

the setting on the hill and all that, but hey,
(10:51):
when you walk through, you can you know, hands on,
take a look, bring members of the family, make sure
it's absolutely right.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yes, it will be an open house, so it's open
to the public. Come enjoy some refreshments. We will have
some more dervs, some refreshments, lots of people to talk to.
Some of the folks that live there now will be
available so you can ask them, so what's life like here?
How do you love it here? And it'll be a
great event.
Speaker 1 (11:13):

You can get a free tour and take a look
at it all right.
