(00:23):
Welcome.
Hey everybody.
Hope y'all doing awesome today.
I just wanna say welcome back tothe Change Chasers podcast,
where faith is in action andchange is always in motion.
I'm your host, Mandy, and todaywe're going to be diving into
something that every changechaser needs to live out
(00:43):
consistently, and that is atopic of a growth mindset.
So whether you're navigating atransition or stepping into a
calling or maybe pushing throughresistance, I believe that your
mindset is your fuel.
(01:03):
Now, maybe you've never thoughtabout it that way, but I do.
So I'm excited for us to kind ofdive in and talk about it
because I think that whenever weare in control.
Of our mindset and how we areperceiving and thinking about
how we allow things really tohave influence on us.
Right?
(01:23):
Are we having stinking thinkingor are we having a positive
shift of perspective?
And so thinking about a growthmindset, I, I like to say that I
think it's kind of, it's like asecret weapon.
It's what fuels us.
It's what fuels you.
It's what fuels me, y'all.
It's just kind of like.
The thoughts of putting gas in acar, the gas in the car, if it
(01:47):
takes gasoline, hopefully,right?
That's its go-go juice.
You know?
And so my point with that is tosay that in the sense of what we
put in our mind either fuels usfor growth or it doesn't.
There's no in between.
So what we put in our mindeither fuels us for growth or it
simply doesn't.
(02:09):
But if we put.
Kind of talking about the caragain, if we put bad gas in a
car, then y'all, there's gonnabe trouble to the fuel tank,
right?
If we put stinking thinking andlimiting beliefs in our mind,
then there's gonna be trouble inour fuel tank, AKA, our mind.
(02:30):
And so let's go ahead and jumpon into the episode.
Hot take number one.
What is a growth mindset?
The term growth mindset was madepopular by psychologist Carol
Dweck.
Simply put, it's the belief thatyour abilities, intelligence,
and talents can be developedthrough dedication and hard
work.
It's the opposite of a fixedmindset, which says, I'm either
(02:54):
good at this or I'm not Aspeople of faith.
I do believe that we're calledas scripture tells us to renew
our minds daily in Romans 12,two.
It reminds us to not conform tothe patterns of this world, but
to be transformed by therenewing of our minds.
(03:15):
That's the biblical blueprint ofa growth mindset, and so a
change chaser with a growthmindset says, alright, here we
go.
Let's tie those shoe stringstight and say.
I'm not there yet, but I will bea change chaser.
Growth mindset also says thissetback is a setup for a new
(03:36):
level or a change chaser.
Growth mindset says, God's notfinished with me and neither am
I, y'all.
I'll just like to say the, I'mreally super pumped for you to
add your own change chaser, growth mindset statements.
Then as you figure out what theyare, then y'all, I wanna
(03:57):
encourage you to say, heck fire.
Say'em loud and proud.
And so as you do, I encourageyou, I'm rooting you on with the
whole, let's go.
Let's go, bro.
Let's go sis.
We got this.
One of my favorite quotes that Isay often, it's actually even on
the chalkboard in my kitchenthat says, speak what you seek
(04:19):
until you see what you said.
And so this can go along withwhatever you wanna cultivate and
develop as a change chasergrowth mindset.
Your own personal mantra is,Hey, once you figure it out,
then declare it.
Say it loud and proud.
I.
My hot take number two for todayis why growth mindset matters to
(04:41):
change chasers.
So thinking through this, Ithink the straight up truth is
that I believe change requirescourage, don't you?
I mean, you might be giving alittle nod to the mm-hmm.
Yeah, I do too.
I think change is so courageous, like when I see people going
(05:01):
through changes and choosing to.
Go after a dream big goal orbuilding a house or pursuing a
new career or job, or going backto college in their forties, or
giving up smoking or justdeciding that, Hey, I'm gonna,
I.
Try to eat better.
I'm gonna start walking a, youknow, couple, two, three miles a
(05:23):
day, y'all.
That is not easy, right?
I think it's so courageous.
And so if you are being a changechaser, and hopefully this
podcast has been inspiring youto think about ways that you are
going to chase change and thatyou are choosing to grow as you
go, then man, I just wanna sayAir high five sent your way
(05:45):
because I do.
Truly believe 100% with all ofmy heart.
That change requires courage.
So keep being courageous, sweetfriends.
I also wanna say that I believethat courage is fueled by
belief.
When I was thinking about thisepisode, I was like, that it, I
(06:06):
mean, I just wanna make thatpoint, is that, yeah, the truth
is change requires courage, butcourage is fueled by belief.
Like y'all, we just got thisinnate and desire believing deep
down, like, I can do this.
Let's go.
Right?
Because the reality of it is, isthat believing in ourselves is,
I mean, it's over half thebattle, just not.
(06:27):
Thinking in limiting ways oflike, oh, I can't do this, or
poor pitiful me of saying, no,let's go.
And being courageous andstanding up and deciding that
you're gonna have a pivot inyour perspective and try to do
things that get you out of yourcomfort zone.
Because growth does just that.
But I do also realize that it'snot just a belief in the
(06:50):
outcome.
I do believe that change chaserswho have the courage to take the
step, to be able to be fueled inbelief.
Also have to understand thatbelief is in the process, and so
give yourself some grace ifyou're not exactly where you
necessarily want to be.
I would encourage you to allowyourself to.
(07:13):
Maintain some belief in theprocess as you're pursuing your
change and your growth andwhatever it is that you are
aspiring to create in your ownlife.
And so if you're chasing change, whether it be in your life, your
relationships, your health, maybe your calling or your
career, you're going to facemoments where it looks
impossible.
(07:34):
Unfortunately, that's just realtalk, right?
And so.
That's where I believe a growthmindset, y'all, we gotta let it
kick in, you know?
And so we gotta let that growthmindset be what we are, allowing
our mindset and our thoughts toreally even linger on.
Because if we can maintain agrowth mindset, then it keeps us
(07:55):
from quitting too soon.
It keeps us from giving up,throwing in the towel and just
being woe is me and never movingforward in the tough stuff.
And in the moments to wherewe're so close.
If we can maintain a growthmindset, then y'all, we won't
quit too soon.
And so it teaches us to reframefailure as feedback.
(08:17):
And so maybe that's a goodlittle zinger line for you is to
reframe failure as feedback.
A good play on some, um, somealliteration of some F words
there, some positive ones,right?
Reframe failure as feedback.
Hebrews 11, one.
I love this verse because ittells us so solidly that faith
(08:39):
is the substance of thingshopeful for is the evidence of
things not seen.
And so when I think about agrowth mindset is faith in
motion.
It's trusting that even.
If, and I'll say when you don'tsee it with a yet, God is
working right.
(08:59):
A growth mindset is faith inmotion.
It's trusting that even if youdon't see it yet, God is working
and you are growing.
And so allowing the process tobe a part of your approach, I
think is such a huge way to beable to maintain a growth
mindset.
My hot take number three is howto cultivate.
(09:19):
A growth mindset.
And so my two anchor words forthis one is I wanna make the
point of faith plus action.
It takes both.
So here's five steps.
I'm gonna kind of go through'emand then I'll come back with an
explanation for them.
But five steps for cultivating agrowth mindset as a change
chaser.
Number one, reframe thechallenge.
(09:43):
Two, learn to love the process.
Three, speak life over yourself.
Four, surround yourself withgrowth-minded people.
Five, set growth goals, not justoutcome goals.
And so when, number one, kind ofthinking about how do we reframe
the challenge, instead ofsaying, this is too hard, say.
(10:06):
Whew.
This is stretching me, right?
Let's being honest, but you'renot putting a negative
connotation like hard, too hardfor me.
Woe was me counting yourselfout.
But what if you say, this isstretching me again, the mantra
of we are growing as we'regoing.
It tells us in James chapter oneverses two through four, that
the scripture says count it alljoy, right?
(10:28):
That count it all joy when weface trials because they produce
perseverance and maturity.
And so not always easy, I knowto embrace those scriptures and
that verse, but the whole ideaof knowing that whenever we do
continue to persevere, y'all,we're gonna mature, we're gonna
grow, and we're not gonna be whowe were when we started the
(10:50):
journey.
I.
And so when I think about thejourney, I think about the
process.
And so point number two of why Ichose to put on here to learn to
love the process is becausechange isn't just about where
you're going.
It's also about who you'rebecoming.
Who are you becoming along theway.
(11:12):
And so.
I don't know if you like tojournal or whatever or pop in
the notes on your phone of man.
You might even wanna stop afterthis episode and think about
what are some life lessons thatyou've learned, Some things that
you could be able to put down.
And I mean, just brag and beproud of yourself, even if it's
just with your own internalexcitement of knowing that
(11:33):
you've achieved some greatthings.
And so don't look past those.
Don't be.
Ah, I hate to say it, but don'tbe comparing yourself to
somebody else's success storiesbecause maybe, maybe theirs does
look different, and that's okay,and that's great, and that's
awesome.
You can cheer'em on, but don'tcount yourself out either.
Again, remember, no stinkingthinking in comparison is the
(11:55):
thief of joy, so don't getcaught up in letting the process
make you feel less than, becauseif we can learn to love the
process.
Then change gets easier, right?
And then we get to grow as wego.
Point number three is I wannaencourage you, speak life over
(12:16):
yourself.
Speak life over you.
What you say matters.
It tells us in Proverbs 1821,that life and death are in the
power of the tongue.
So.
I wanna say this to you guys, that maybe you might even wanna
embrace the mantra that youcould start saying daily to
yourself.
(12:37):
I'm growing, I'm beingtransformed, I'm becoming who
God designed me to be.
Okay, somebody make that coolinto a, you know, cool little
boom, boom, boom.
You know, a little rap orsomething.
I'm growing, I'm beingtransformed.
I'm becoming who God designed meto be.
It's got a good little rhythm toit.
Write that down, start saying ityourself.
(12:59):
Maybe put it on your bathroommirror, and so every time you
brush your teeth, you speakthose words affirming over you,
that you are growing, you'rebeing transformed, and you're
becoming who God designed you tobe.
I wanna encourage you with thisalso on wrapping up this point,
y'all, is that please, please, please remember that you hear
100% of everything that you sayto yourself.
(13:24):
Be kind to your mind.
Be kind to your mind.
My number four point on this onewas surround yourself with
growth-minded people.
Y'all, we gotta get in roomswhere people are celebrating
progress and that they arecultivating change and that
(13:44):
they're willing to.
Do the hard work, right?
Being willing to step out withcourage and say, Hey, let's go.
We we're aspiring, we are changechasers.
And so get in rooms where peoplecelebrate progress, not
perfection.
Maybe you need to join a smallgroup or a mentorship circle.
Maybe you need to find a, ahobby of like-minded people, you
(14:08):
know, whatever it is.
For me, it's a faith-basedcommunity that sharpens me well,
and so.
Whatever works for you.
I wanna encourage you, but alsochallenge you to search that
out, seek that out, and see ifthere are other people that you
can link arms with and do lifewith.
Because if you surround yourselfwith growth minded people, oh my
goodness gracious, it changeseverything.
(14:31):
And so the point number five wasset growth goals, not just
outcome goals.
So I know a lot of times us asbeing changed shapers, like,
well, what I could just, when Iaccomplish this goal, when I
get, when I get down here onthis timeline of, what I want
outta my life or what I wanna doby this month or this year of my
(14:52):
life, then, it can getoverwhelming.
It can actually get reallystagnant in our thinking as
well.
Right?
And so if we can set growthgoals, not just outcome goals,
then I think that it can alsoshift some of the pressure.
And it allows us to enjoy livinglife a little bit more, right?
And so the whole idea ofthinking about, for example, of
(15:14):
instead of only saying, I wannalose 20 pounds, then you can
say, I want to become someonewho honors my body daily.
Pretty great, awesome goal,right?
It's not just an outcome goal,it's a growth goal.
Or instead of saying, I wannapublish a book.
You can say, Hey, I, I want tobecome someone who writes with
(15:35):
discipline every week.
And here's the awesome thing.
In both of those two examples,if you make a commitment to do
both of those daily or weekly,it's in your routine, right?
And so change is going to happenbased off of our routine.
So some of us might need toadapt and create new routines.
And so, hey.
(15:56):
What you start today changestomorrow.
So my encouragement is thinkingabout that.
You know, we've had an episodebefore of talking about day one
or one day, and so maybe this isgonna inspire you to circle back
and think about of, Hey, youknow what, I think today's my
day one.
How cool would that be?
All right, friends, so hot.
(16:18):
Take number four, real talk.
Ready for it.
Growth mindset in the Bible.
I wanted to throw in thinkingabout some biblical characters.
I always try to give an examplein every episode about different
people that are in my life andstories that I know about folks
who have been changed chasers.
(16:39):
So I thought, I wanna gobiblical on this time I think
about David.
We know that he was a shepherd, turned a king.
He faced rejection, danger anddelay, but he didn't stay stuck,
right?
His mindset, it was faith filledand focused.
He had to kinda regroup a coupletimes throughout his journey of
(17:00):
living life.
He wasn't perfect, but hecontinued to make progress.
And so when I stop and I thinkabout the example he set for us,
I'm really, really grateful forhis faith field and focused
growth mindset.
And then I think about Peter.
Unfortunately, Peter failed.
He denied Jesus.
(17:21):
But y'all, he didn't say, it'stoo hard I tap out.
Nope.
He came back stronger because hebelieved that he could change.
Peter was a change chaser.
I think those are two greatbiblical examples as well.
And hey, think about otherpeople in your life or maybe
some other characters in theBible too.
(17:41):
Just people who are changechasers, because I believe that
when we get to see examples ofsome other amazingly awesome
change chasers, it motivates meto think about I can do that
too.
And so I wanna encourage youthough, of not getting caught up
in thinking that you have to beall, do all and be just like
someone else's that I reallylove knowing that we are also
(18:04):
uniquely created.
And that we're not all called tobe the same.
And so just giving yourself themindset of thinking about that,
you know, God is good.
I like to say God is faithfuland I am grateful.
And that is so true for mebecause I truly believe, God
tells us in His word inPhilippians one, six, that he
(18:25):
who began a good work in youwill carry it on to completion.
And so whatever it is that youhave been chasing change on,
however you've been trying tocreate a growth mindset, a shift
in perspective, and you've beentrying to say, Hey, this is what
I want to do, then I wannaencourage you, continue to give
(18:46):
some thought to that some timein your schedule.
Maybe change up your routine alittle bit to be able to.
Do some things that fuel yourtank back up so that you can
continue to persevere and makeprogress day in and day out.
And so I wanna encourage youwith kind of a quick little wrap
(19:07):
up about today's episode is Iwant you to remember that a
growth mindset is faith inaction.
Change is not just aboutresults, it's about refinement,
and you can grow through whatyou go through.
Don't chase perfection, chaseprogress, and then God is
(19:28):
working in you just as much ashe's working for you.
I believe all those.
And so I wanted to kind of endwith those just to sweetly
remind you of that.
You got what it takes.
And so I wanna continue to say,Hey, I'm cheering you on.
Some of us have never met inperson.
I know that to be the case, butI'm just gonna go ahead and
(19:49):
continue to tell you air highfive sent your way.
You got this.
Keep on keeping on, and as youdo, I'm gonna close out with our
C3 time our change chaserschallenge.
For this week, I wanna challengeyou to write down one area of
your life where you've had afixed mindset, and then I want
to ask you to rewrite thatnarrative with growth language.
(20:11):
Make it a declaration, speak itdaily, like I said before, loud
and proud.
And so an example to help you tothink through.
To create your own is, let's saythat maybe your personal area of
growth is to get over your fearof public speaking.
So a fixed mindset person wouldsay, I'm just not good at public
(20:32):
speaking.
I always get nervous and stumbleover my words.
I just, I just can't do it.
However, a growth mindsetdeclaration and a person who is
pursuing a growth mindset wouldsay, I'm becoming a confident
and impactful speaker.
Every time I speak, I getstronger, clear, and more
connected to my purpose.
(20:53):
Y'all, that's just one exampleto help you to get to thinking
about something or a task or anarea that you desire to grow and
experience improvement in yourlife.
And I wanna just say that.
Once you figure out your growthdeclaration, will you please,
please have the courage todeclare it daily?
(21:16):
No joke, y'all.
I'm serious.
I want you to speak what youseek until you see what you
said, and so determining, yourgrowth mindset declaration.
Once you know it, then pleasespeak that over yourself daily,
even before.
You feel it.
You may feel like a fake and afraud, but hey, change is never
(21:41):
easy.
But it's so worth it andthinking about having faith in
action and change in motion,y'all, that's what a change
chaser is.
That's what we're about, right?
That's so speaking that overyourself daily, even before you
feel it.
And I do believe when we'rewilling to have the courage to
do that, that's how we move fromstuck to growing Again, with
(22:05):
that sweet reminder of faith inaction, change in motion.
Sweet.
Friends, if this episode hasstirred something in you, will
you please share it?
With a fellow change chaser orsomeone that you just wanna
encourage on their journey, thatyou see something in them and
you're wanting to send thistheir way and say, Hey, I see
(22:26):
you.
I believe in you.
You got what it takes.
I like to think about ironsharpens iron, so one person
sharpens another.
Thanks for inspiring others tokeep leveling up and being proof
that change is possible.
That growth really truly iscontagious.
(22:56):
You've been listening to changeChasers where faith is in action
and change is always in motion.
Until next time, let's keepchasing change and living with
purpose.
Bye sweet friends.
