Speaker 1 (00:04):
News Radio fifteen eighty one hundred point nine a FM
WCCF seven thirty five. Here on a Friday morning, and
you're listening to the CDBIA Hour with your.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Host Donna Barrett.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Donna, good morning, How are you ken good?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
How you doing great?

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Do you realize that this week here is the height
of hurricane season?

Speaker 4 (00:24):
I did not.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yes, this is well. And it was eight years ago
this week that Hurricane Irma had hit our area. And
fifty seven no, sixty five years ago with yes, sixty
five years ago, Hurricane Donna came through here. She must
have been beautiful. But I want to say you're welcome
to everybody, especially your listeners. You know Murphy's law. If

(00:48):
you plan ahead, you know, and you're prepared, nothing will happen.
And so today's show is all about being prepared for
hurricane season, and we brought the big guns to talk
about hurricanes and home safety with us today. We're really excited.
We have the twenty twenty two Subcontractor of the Year
for the CDBIA and last year's Member of the Year

(01:11):
Chris Hagy and Trey Christian from Elite Hurricane Protection and
also joining us is one of our heroes with a
hammer who when you didn't when you weren't prepared for
a hurricane and had some damage on your home. Our
Jimmy Feliciano with AJF Construction, who was our twenty twenty
two or twenty twenty three Builder of the Year and

(01:33):
twenty twenty four CDBIA President.

Speaker 5 (01:35):
Good morning, Good morning, good morning.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
How are you gentlemen doing outstanding? How have these last
three years been for you?

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Very very busy?

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Yes, yeah, yeah, Now.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
I would imagine you guys are still dealing with people
who had hurricane damage from a couple of years ago.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
I think we're all dealing with still fixing homes from
in Helene and Milton, Milton. There's so many to the hurricanes.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Unfortunately, we kind of laughed over the last three years.
I'll talk first with Chris and Tree. Normally, your phone
start going crazy as soon as you hear that there's
a storm or a name storm in the tropics, and
that's when you start getting phone calls that people want
to get the hurricanes shutters put up? What is your

(02:26):
time table? So somebody was to call you today, when
are you looking at making sure that that home would
have your shutters?

Speaker 6 (02:33):
Probably in the five eight weeks, we'd be able to
be there and have things hanging on the wall.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
That's fantastic. Yeah, you know, these last few years we've
been hit so bad that the timetable had been out
so within. So if somebody really wants to be prepared
by the end of the season right now, you can
still have them prepared. Absolutely, yes, and walk us into that.
Let's say that I have had hurricane damage in the
past and I want to be more secure by the

(02:59):
end of the Here, take me through if you were
to come to my home, what would I need to anticipate.

Speaker 6 (03:06):
All right, So I'm going to show up and we're
gonna walk around together. I look at it as it's
not just a sales call. It's a chance to just
educate the homeowner. In fact, with us, we're going to
walk around, we're going to talk about options, the different
styles of hurricane protection that we offer.

Speaker 7 (03:24):
We're going to talk about where that.

Speaker 6 (03:25):
Hits on the budget, because that's usually a big consideration
for folks. And then we walk around and we look
at the different openings all around the house, and I'll
have good sized samples where you can see, feel, touch
what those options look like, once we've diagnosed what your
situation is, what your goals are, and how you want
to protect things, then I'll go to work, take in

(03:46):
a bunch of measurements, sit down, do some math, and
hopefully before I leave, be able to present you with
an actual quote.

Speaker 7 (03:54):
So you've got numbers.

Speaker 6 (03:54):
Most people in their calling, they're not wanting me to
show up and write up a deal. They're wanting me
to show up give them information so that as they
contemplate how they're going to do go about this process,
give them that good information.

Speaker 7 (04:06):
And so that's what we try to do.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Try. We live in a community where we do have
a lot of older people as well. One of the
biggest calls that we get after or when a hurricane's
getting ready to come is for people to put shutters up.
Can you tell me how shutters have evolved over the
years where when you have an older population putting shutters up,
it's very hard and finding people. I mean, do you

(04:28):
come back and do that or is there other options out?

Speaker 4 (04:32):
So we do not offer that. We don't go back
and put people's shutters up. The reason we can't do
that is because the amount of the volume of calls
we get it's impossible to hire that kind of staff.
There's so many people that still have panels on their home.
What we do is we go educate them on the
options that make it easier as they age to close

(04:54):
up their home quickly and easily. Panels are a very
difficult item for an elderly person to try to get
on a ladder and hang these panels. I mean Europe.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Even the young people that are putting them up, they
just trying to get them.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
To fit absolutely. But there are a number of options
out there that are accordions. As far as budget accordions
are your best budget shutter out there. It's actually one
of the strongest hurricane shutters in the industry and the easiest.
It just closes the right to left and we use
a heavy duty mortis luck for the middle. And we
will absolutely come out with any to any home and

(05:30):
make sure that we can give you a shutter that
is easy for you to close your house up and
be ready for a hurricane.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
So that that's something that's huge. There's so many people
that that was I remember even with IRMA at the
last minute, because so many people had evacuated, we did
not have the manpower here to put that up. Thank
you for offering those options out there.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
So when in came, I had my entire staff hanging
shutters for elderly and we actually were hanging shutters up
until the winds came free in and I had to
finally cut it off and say go home and prepare
your own homes. And at that point is when we
had to take a step back and say, Okay, what
is the best way to move forward? And that's educating

(06:16):
the community on how to be prepared for the hurricane
shot for a hurricane coming in which panels is a
very different I mean, you're gonna take sick on a
normal size house, You're gonna take six to eight hours
to put up panels. Where you can close your entire
house with accordions in about four minutes.

Speaker 6 (06:29):
So.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Six to eight hours to put them up.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
Yes, I have actually witnessed and spoke with homeowners. I
don't have panels on my home, but I have went
and spoke with homeowners that are elderly, and they'll actually
go put up an opening and then have to take
a break because they're climbing a ladder and they potentially
could take six to eight hours to hang out a
normal home of panels.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Wow, and with the new version that we have out there,
you said four minutes, you.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
Can close the standard house in about four minutes. Electric
rolldowns you can close your house in twenty seconds. You
hit one button and they all can go down.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
I'm sorry that pause was shock. Sorry, No, you're okay.
I don't have obviously I don't have those on my
home yet. So something we'll have to talk about in
the future there too. What other things do you did
you learn from or did your company learn from the
past storms that you can offer for assistance, like don't wait, don't.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
Wait, don't wait, don't wait till the hurricanes come in
a call. When a hurricane, when everybody sees the hurricane,
they immediately call us. And the problem is is that
when you're still recovering from the other hurricanes, you're still
backed up, and everybody thinks you have to when you order,
we're going to do it the next day. It takes time,
It takes permitting, and we have to get everything manufactured.

(07:52):
Once it's manufacturer, we have to set a date. So yeah,
it takes a little bit of time, So prepare early. Okay,
there you go.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
Commercial Elite Hurricane Protection and AJF Construction. We'll be right back.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
News Radio fifteen eighty one hundred point nine a FM WCCF.
You're listening to the Cdbia Hour with Donna Barrett.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Donna and we are here with our favorite guests are
Chris Hegey and Trey Christian from Elite Hurricane Protection and
Jimmy feliciano AJF Construction. First, let's go back into if
we could. Chris, what made you get into hurricane shutters?
I mean, how do you wake up and start a
business like that?

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Honestly, I saw the need for protecting homes. You see
all the footage over the years of all the damage,
and so what I did is try to figure out
the best options to protect homes and give them the
easiest way to protect their homes and get in and
out safely.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
And you moved Did you move down to this area
specifically to do that?

Speaker 7 (09:02):
No?

Speaker 4 (09:02):
I moved down here to retire.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Worked out for you, and it didn't work over ver.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
Well, it took about three weeks and I was born.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
And what other services does her? Elite Hurricane Protection? And
let me note it, I may slip and say, because
you've recently changed your name absolutely, and would you like
to tell us why?

Speaker 5 (09:22):
Sure?

Speaker 4 (09:22):
Yeah, so our name was Elite Hurricane Home Protection, and
that prevented us from landing a lot of the commercial
jobs because a lot of the contractors thought we were
only residential. So we just decided to switch and take
the word home out and protect everybody, not just residential.

(09:43):
We protect businesses all around. Lord, We've done it for years,
but now we just wanted to be proactive and make
our name represent what we actually do.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Nice. Is there a different regulation for commercial versus home
of what they need?

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Yeah? Everything, Every residential and commercial have slight differences in
just how it's permitted, how what products we have to
put on it, how it has to be, how it
has to be installed on the residential because or on
the commercial because it has to be able to be
pulled off and stored. A lot of the commercial jobs

(10:19):
have panels. And then you have to always worry about
traffic when you're doing commercial jobs. Traffic walking in and out,
so you really have to make sure that you're protecting
the consumer walking in and out where there's no trip hazards.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
Fantastic, it's great to know, and congratulations on building your
commercial business. I'm really excited to see where that goes.
Some of the other concerns people have when it comes
to hurricane shutters is the fear of the unknown, not
knowing on what's going on outside their home. So it's like, hey,
if I don't protect one window, I might as well
protect not protect them all. What products have been have

(10:58):
come out recently or in the past few years regarding
to help with people that may have claustrophobia being in
a home, or if people just are nosy and they
want to be able to see, what do you recommend
for that?

Speaker 1 (11:12):
All?

Speaker 6 (11:12):
Right, So we hear that a lot. I'll get to
somebody's house and they go, oh, somebody who was closing
up with panels or plywood, and I felt like I
was in a cave. We have a variety of options
for that that person who feels claustrophobic once they've put
up the shutters. There are panels that are clear panels.
That's one option we could put on in just a
couple of windows.

Speaker 7 (11:31):
You don't have to do the whole house.

Speaker 6 (11:32):
You can still do other solutions on other windows and
just put clear panels and now you get a little
light and at least a place to look out.

Speaker 7 (11:39):
On the aluminum products.

Speaker 6 (11:40):
With our rolldown screens, we actually can take some of
those slats and put in clear view slat. It uses
the same material as the clear panels that you would use,
but you put it right in a slat and now
you've got the ability to let some light in and
see out. Tell people all the time, I'm that guy
that if I start hearing crazy noises in the back
of the house, I want to.

Speaker 7 (11:58):
Go see I want to go look a way to
see out.

Speaker 6 (12:01):
And then one of the things that's gotten very popular
is hurricane screen, and this is a solution. A lot
of times people will want to do something different back
on the Lanai area and totally enclosed the line, make
it an instant hurricane resistant storage area, keep their furniture,
keep their decor protect and not have to move so

(12:22):
much out bring it into the house or whatever, and
the hurricane screen can come down. It's again roll down
and block an entire section of a LINEI opening, but
you can see through it, you can see out, and
people all of a sudden go that relieved that claustrophobic feeling,
that made them feel much more comfortable being able to

(12:43):
see what's out there, and the hurricane screen product has
come a long way over the last few years from
what I've learned and.

Speaker 7 (12:50):
The company we use.

Speaker 6 (12:51):
We install Magna Trac roll down screens and it's what's
it made of. So you'll hear people all the time
talk about those kevlar screens, and the manufacturer of the
actual screen does have an agreement with DuPont to be
able to say kevlar.

Speaker 7 (13:09):
But it's aramid fiber. Is the is the what the.

Speaker 6 (13:13):
Component is that makes it so strong?

Speaker 7 (13:15):
And it is. It's very popular.

Speaker 6 (13:18):
It's very strong, good looking product, and so that's been
a biggie that's been very popular.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
So what's the last How long is it?

Speaker 6 (13:26):
So you're gonna have a Florida the Sun beaten on
that stuff. Yeah, you're gonna have a ten year warranty
on this. And they've taken it and tested it out
in the Arizona Desert in the sun. It's treated for
UV protection and so you can use it. We have
a lot of folks who say, Hey, I don't want
this just for hurricane protection, but the sun. I get
the afternoon sun on the back of the house. I

(13:46):
know we need something to block that and they'll put
the screen in, bring it down during the day.

Speaker 7 (13:51):
You can use it every day. It doesn't avoid the warranty.

Speaker 6 (13:53):
It's it's made to take that and they'll double duty.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
So I'm not an engineer, I'm not you know anything.
I just have been through a storm or eighty and
one of the things that you hear million times is
like if you have your front door open and the
winds come in, that that could be the cause of
why your home can collapse. Yes, with that screen there,

(14:18):
do you still need to have your doors closed? I
mean it does it.

Speaker 6 (14:20):
Protect any opening that lets anything from the outside end.
You want to keep it closed. You do not want
anything outside coming in. This screen is going to stop
ninety ninety eight percent of any wind or rain, and
so it does that.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
Job for sure.

Speaker 5 (14:36):
So can you Is it would be safe for you
to be able to go out on the line. I say,
if somebody needed to get out of the house go
smoke a cigarette or something during the hurricane, absolutely.

Speaker 6 (14:45):
Yes, and the search in general, and I are not
against the smoking of the cigarette, but yes, you.

Speaker 7 (14:49):
Could go out there.

Speaker 6 (14:50):
And I'm a storm watcher though, so if you want
to go out watch the storm, go by.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Yeah, do they make that screen to cover the nyes
so we could protect Darland eyes.

Speaker 7 (14:58):
Now the open for Lani. Yes, a cage.

Speaker 6 (15:02):
The actual structure of the cage doesn't meet the specs
necessary to be to code, so you can enclose the lani.
Your cage is still you could go out in your
lanai and watch the cage see.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
How it performs.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
One more thing too, before we do get ready to
go to break, I do want to just personally throw
in here how involved you both are in the community
or your whole company is in the community. And just
this week again in the height of hurricane season, Leadership
Englewood with the Anglewood Chamber of Commerce, Chris was actually
announced as being part of the Leadership Englewood class of

(15:41):
twenty twenty six and Trey Christian will be a part
of Leadership Charlotte with the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce.
So I'm really excited to see where you both go. Gret,
God Garret, I'm the only one to here that can
sear that nobody to argue with me ha ha unless

(16:02):
somebody calls up now I mentioned that. But more than anything,
your team has been so great of being so involved
in our community, and I want to say thank you
on a personal level. Just many times Chris, even behind
the scenes, there's been a lot of things that he
has done to help support I know some of the

(16:24):
things where people can see it. With the land Braves,
you support them. You can see your name all over
the place there. Northport baseball team, I believe, basketball, Northport
girls basketball, and Port Charlotte High School football, which they're
playing Venice tonight. This is the game of the week,
I think from what I'm hearing on all the news stations.

(16:46):
But you, but more so than anything, in so many
different areas, Chris. I've watched you trade and your team,
which is a family run business. Chris's two sons were
actually work with him too, and they are so involved
and engaged and make our community even better. So I
want to just say thank you to that.

Speaker 5 (17:04):
I appreciate I forget Chris a board member for our CDB.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
I A oh yes, yes, he joined our board last
year and has been a huge part of the success
of our association.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
So thank you. Thank you for that too. I'd like
to be again. We're getting ready to go to break.
Can we get contact information for both of you.

Speaker 6 (17:27):
Well, the best thing to do would be to call
the office and they would then because I'm out doing whatever,
and then we'll reach back out to the homeowner and
set something up. If you reach out to the office,
the number is nine four one two zero zero two
nine one six and.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
AJAF Construction is nine four one two four nine five
zero three zero or AJF Construction sixteen at gmail dot com.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
And make sure you log on to CDBI A talkt com. Yes,
check it all out. Okay, top of the hour, news
and traffic coming your way. We'll be back after.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
That on the CDBI A Hour right here on news
Radio fifteen eighty News Radio fifteen eighty one hundred point

(18:29):
nine f m w c C F eight oh six
on a Friday, and you're listening to the CDBI A
Hour with your host Donna Barrett.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
I need to know who sings that song?

Speaker 2 (18:40):
That is jose Feliciana, Is it? Yes?

Speaker 3 (18:43):
I gotta write that he's still around.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
I don't know if he is.

Speaker 5 (18:45):
I wish I was related, but no.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
You can see, well what.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
A great tie in from Feliciana Tosa. So hurricane comes
and you have damage help what happens. Take us through
the process that well, of course we've learned a lot,
We have a lot of lessons learned. And Jimmy, once again,
I want to say this, even on a personal level

(19:12):
of how many people you helped, I know that there
have been situations through the years with all the different
storms that they were different. Every home is different when
you're going through a storm. Yes, you cannot go off
social media and what somebody says on social media and
think that that's what's going to fix your situation. Whether

(19:32):
it's you have different insurance, whether it's you have different
product on your home. Your home is individual, unique and
sometimes that ends up causing stress for the homeowner. Absolutely,
and you have walked a lot of people off a
ledge with a lot of the situations that they've gone through.
So I want to thank you huge. We are getting

(19:55):
to the point for the first time. Things are swimming
down a little bit. We are getting caught up on
a lot of the hurricane repairs. There's still a lot
to go. We still have a lot of bruises on
our community, especially in the government, and we hear all
of that all the time. But Jimmy, take me through
a process that if somebody is has damage where even

(20:15):
right now they're seeing rain and they have leaks, tell
me how you can help with with AJF construction.

Speaker 5 (20:23):
Well, we do similar to what Elite does. We'll get
the call and we'll go out and we will assess
the situation that they have. Different storms have different damages.
Ian was windstorms, so we had a lot of roof damages,
you know, a lot of structural damage. These two last year,
Milton and Helene were flood damage, so that was concentrated

(20:45):
mainly on from the floor to about four foot up.
But the same thing, we will go out, we will
take a walk around the house. We will talk to
the client and find out, you know, what they have seen,
what they know is wrong for sure, and go from
there and same thing. We give them quotes. Our quotes
aren't on the spot like Elite is because there's a

(21:07):
lot of other things involved. But we will get with
them kind of find out if they have a budget
or what's going on with that, and then get back
with them within a week or two typically on a budget,
on a quote on how to take care of their
situation for them.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Now, I know we talk hurricanes, but tell me about
AJF construction. What services do you offer.

Speaker 5 (21:27):
We are a certified general contractor in the state of Florida,
so we do residential remodels, additions, kitchens, baths, windows. I
know Elite doesn't want to hear that, but we do
hurricane windows.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
We don't do windows.

Speaker 5 (21:44):
And we are also commercial. We do commercial buildouts. So
if you're a new business getting ready to go into
a new space and need that space done up for
what to fit your needs, we can do that for you.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
So you have a Florida general contractor license. Correct, the
best license that you can have, because you could even
build bridges if you want.

Speaker 5 (22:03):
Right, correct, Yes, skyscrapers whatever.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
If we go over eighty five feet in pint of grdy,
you could build one of those buildings, right, that's right.
I like stirring the pod a little bit there too.
And Jimmy, how long have you been here? Tell me
a little bit about yourself.

Speaker 5 (22:20):
I have been here since nineteen ninety three, so quite
a while now. Came was born in the Midwest, born
in Ohio, but raised out west between New Mexico and California.
This is home now. It's been, like I said, over
thirty years here, so over half my life. I have
been here. This is my community. We like to take

(22:40):
care of it.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
Raise your daughter here, raised my.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
Daughter here, yes, and my own Now I have a
grandson from her, so that is the second joy in
my life. My daughter is still my first, but Leo
was right up there with her.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
I'd almost have to challenge that. Recently, Lear just started
walking and he very proud. Grandpa had to bring him
into the office so we can see him walking and
you know, see where his future picture is going to be.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
Right exactly, and he is definitely Grandpa's boy.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
So I'm gonna throw a couple of questions out there
and probably shutting you. Just make you think. What's one
of your favorite projects you've done in Charlotte County.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
Oh my goodness, Now you're throwing me on the spot,
because I don't want to discount anybody's project.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
What's one of the one that you're most proud of?

Speaker 5 (23:24):
How about that we did a church in a in
a commercial building one time that we took from you know,
from studs and concrete and made their sanctuary and offices
and classrooms and things like that, and it really turned
out good.

Speaker 4 (23:39):
That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (23:40):
Yeah, I'm glad to hear that. Again we're talking hurricanes,
but we know that the FARDA building code is set
to help make sure that if you are doing a
model or doing a new build or remodel, that you're
following that code there too. Is there any additional steps
that you take to help when you're looking, because I

(24:01):
think that this is always our number one priority when
whether we're buying a home or buying a business, we
want to know how that building is going to be
when a hurricane comes.

Speaker 5 (24:11):
Absolutely, we always give suggestions and we let the client
or potential client know that is a suggestion. This is
not something that you have to do, but we want
them to be as safe as possible too. We don't
want to have to be coming out and doing repairs
on them every year or every minor storm. And again
we understand people have budgets, so there are only so
many things they can do, but yes, we do give

(24:33):
suggestions and to help them out for that.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
And insurance has also been a very big topic. So
is there services that you offer both of you both
companies Elite Hurricane Protection and AJF Construction. Is there any
services that you offer that can help maybe reduce insurance?

Speaker 4 (24:53):
So in my world. If all of your home and
all of your openings are detected, some insurance companies and
not all insurance companies, you'll have to seek out your
insurance companies speak with them, but they will give you
a reduction in your insurance cost for having your home
protective with hurricane shutters.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (25:13):
Okay, yes, And along that lines too, we can offer
changing out the windows if they don't want to do shutters.
If they want to go with the impact windows, we
can change those out and those also are a discount.
There's also the third nail in the roof that helps
you know the roof needs to be held down. There's

(25:34):
a there's a process for roof all the way down
to foundation needs to be held down. So in some homes,
in the older homes, if we can apply a third
nail in the the strap that holds this trusses down
to the wall, that is a big insurance discount.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
Also, that's exciting to hear. Elevate far to lifting homes.
Is that anything that you do, Jimmy, we have not
done that yet. No, Okay, good to know that too.
I know that there's a lot of conversations good, bad,
and indifferent, and there are a lot of questions that
some people have, and again, don't go off just social media.
Your home is something unique and you want to have

(26:17):
a trusted.

Speaker 5 (26:18):
Licensed contractor looking at it correct.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
Coming out looking and letting you know the good bads
and difference on all of that too. What is your
contact information Jimmy A.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
JF Construction nine four one two four nine five zero
three zero or AJF Construction sixteen at gmail dot com.

Speaker 3 (26:38):
And if somebody needs some work that's done, it's not
hurricane but they want to maybe sprucing up their home
before they sell it, is that something that you would do.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
Absolutely, we do big and small. Nothing's too big, nothing's
too small. Give us a call or an email and
let us know.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
And if somebody needs a quote or assessment, they want
to see if they should get hurricane shutters, how would
they contact you?

Speaker 6 (27:01):
Best thing to do reach out to the office numbers
nine four to one, who's e RO zero two nine
one six and then I'll follow up and we'll get
something on the calendar.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
Fantastic And if you are interested in.

Speaker 4 (27:16):
You can also go to our website at Elite Hurricane
Protection dot com.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
And with that, we got to take a break and
we'll be right back.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
News Radio fifteen eighty one hundred point nine FM WCCF
and we're back on the CDBIA Hour with your host
Donna Barrett.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
So what's really exciting during break time you get to
hear about other services that our companies here offer with
us today again is Jimmy Fuliciano with AJF Construction, Chris
and Trey from Elite Hurricane Protection. I cannot stand bugs?
What help me?

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Who loves them?

Speaker 3 (28:00):
Especially at dusk when the sun is getting range of set.
They want to eat me up alive? How can you
help me with this?

Speaker 6 (28:06):
All right, primarily we're out there doing the hurricane thing,
but we can help you with your bug problem, Donna. Yes,
we have other products that are not hurricane specific, but
we do bug screens, shade screens, we can solar screen,
we can put those on again in a commercial application,

(28:27):
we can attach those. There's something we can put on
your cage to give you privacy around your pool.

Speaker 7 (28:32):
We can do that. I have folks.

Speaker 6 (28:36):
It wasn't a big thing in Kentucky where I'm from,
but in this area a lot of folks sit in
their garages and they'll bring down a privacy screen so
that they can see what's going on out front versus
out back. And so we do roll down screens over
garage doors for folks.

Speaker 7 (28:49):
On the regular.

Speaker 6 (28:49):
So, yes, we can help you with your bug problem
or your sun problem.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
And how fast can you do that?

Speaker 6 (28:55):
We're probably more likely to be in the four to
six week range that is a non permitted product, and
so we can move a little quicker on that, so.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
I can have sunset and sunrise with no bugs in
less than four weeks.

Speaker 7 (29:09):
There you go, oh, yes, ma'am you.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
Seeing that's music to my ears.

Speaker 6 (29:15):
It'll be somebody like Jimmy who's working with a homeowner
going through that process and he'll say, hey, guys, I'm
doing all this big stuff, but I need you get
over here and give me a quote for whether it's
a hurricane screen or a bug screen. And we work
hand in hand with the contractors and builders to do that.

Speaker 5 (29:30):
Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
I love that too, and using these subs on that
contracting licensing. How important is licensing? We I can stress
that every single month.

Speaker 5 (29:44):
Can't stress that enough, especially during the storms when we
have so many and influx of so many people that
come down and storm chase I understand most people want
to get it done now. They don't want to live
in a house that's damaged. But we cannot stress enough

(30:04):
the importance of using using a licensed contractor. If not
the local contractor, we live here, we are going to
back our work.

Speaker 7 (30:14):
You know.

Speaker 5 (30:14):
Sometimes we have people from from other places in the
state come down, which is fine. They are they are
you know, Florida license, but they don't live in our community.
Are they going to be here in six months if
something goes wrong. That's that's why we stress using a
local licensed contractor.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
Call your local b A, call them, ask call the
Charlotte DESDA Building Industry Associates and ask them, ask them
for a licensed contractor. Always hire a license contractor.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
No matter what you do, we can vet a company
for you at the cdbi A. It's a free service
that we do offer. So if you are getting ready
to hire somebody and do keep in mind what Chris,
Jimmy and Trey are saying is so important. The calls
that we're getting now are a lot of people that
hired a company from another part of town because they

(31:00):
were rushing. It is almost disgusting how many people paid
deposits and didn't have work done, or shoddy work that
was done, and now they're not coming back here to
fix that work. And more than anything, we get calls
from nonprofits and say who should we call to get
a donation. My response is and always will be, I

(31:22):
will never give out a company name. It'll be called
the company that you hired. And if they're not from here,
they're not going to support your child's sports team or
extracurricular activity. I want to just throw up really fast
if I can on behalf of the CDBIA that we
are really excited that on November eighth, we will be
hosting our first ever show me the License Home Building

(31:46):
and Remodeling show. Our presenting sponsor is Hurricane Home Protection.

Speaker 7 (32:05):
Yes and oh my goodness, put in the home.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
Because I really I'm going to have to go back
and listen to that, Oh my goodness, hurricane no one
will hear what exactly did I say?

and wants.

Speaker 5 (32:47):

Just you could stop on by if you are looking
at model remodeling your home, or if you just want
more information to be protective. Again, our number one priority
is our homeowners always and forever. We want to make
sure that they're taking care of the best that we

(33:10):
possibly can. In our industry, it's a very regulated industry.
We know that we have different codes. You can you
know somebody who built who did roofing in Ohio does
not understand the Florida building code the same thing. These
are the experts to know about hurricane shutters or how
to rebuild after hurricane. Get in contractors like Jimmy and

(33:32):
with AJF Construction and Chris and Trey with Elite Hurricane Protection.

their services. So this is a great time where you

anybody for your home, we have a free service. We

be a great time where you may want to do

(34:25):
some upgrades which can help build up your price. Companies
such as what Jimmy offers can help you with that.
You could join us. On Friday night, we have joined
the draft the CDBIA Professional Women in Building. It's sponsored
by Warreton Smith. We're doing a membership drive and the

(35:07):
with some of the powerful women and within the building industry.

our cruise in Northport, we're having a meeting with our

through the steps of what you need to take to
hopefully take care of anything that's going on in your home.

closer to hurricane season people, it becomes a front burner
issue and then they call and then we're swammed. And
it's not four to six weeks or five to eight weeks,
it's teens of weeks.

Speaker 7 (36:29):
