This week’s episode is just a start to the New Year. We have a lot of good talk revolving around golf and the holiday season. We debate when is too early in the year to take a golf trip or when is it too late?

We just got back from a quick trip to the Sunshine State where we pegged it up for 3 days and got into some talks around that. This light hearted banter episode brings us back to the roots of this show and its fitting for the first drop of the year.

We dive into the state of the PGA Tour and other talks surrounding golf and sports in general. We finish this off with a Birdie Count challenge that runs the full year. Can you keep track of yours?

Tune in, sit back, and let us know what you think. We’ll be back sooner than later with more guests and more fun talks.

Foreign m
episode of 2025. Here we
are, New Year. Same us, uh,
here on Chase and Birdies. Happy New Year to all out there
listening. Thank you for tuning in today and
happy New Year to you, my man. Pepsi. Good to see you, bud.

>> RB (00:22):
Yeah, Happy New Year, man. I'm really excited about
that. Uh, a little fresh start for the
boys. So, um, that's
exciting, dude.

>> Jonathan (00:31):
You were a little. You were cross eyed right there.

>> RB (00:33):
Yeah, well, I was cross eyed this week too,
but from alcohol. Um, all
right, 2025.
Again, we are happy to be
partnering with our boys over at Red
Vanly. We're excited for that for
2025. We're excited for our
partnership with Nemicolon for 2025.

(00:54):
And we got a couple others trickling down the
pipeline. But make sure you
go to redvamily.com. i know that they're gonna be
sponsoring the Chase and Birdies two, man. Uh,
that we're kind of putting together right now. We're getting all the details, all
the pricing finalized this year. We're gonna go to 48
people. Um, so that's exciting

(01:14):
and we'll get into that a little bit, but we got a lot to get
into today.
We've had a busy couple weeks, man, between
Christmas, which I was sick, Christmas, uh,
day I was down for the count. What, uh, Santa bring you, man? What
was your favorite? Like a little gift?

>> Jonathan (01:30):
It wasn't even Santa that brought this thing rolling
into my house, man. It was Christmas Eve,
and we were out at Christmas Eve
festivities and coming home in
the evening, I see a box on my front porch,
this box, and I thought that it
was left by her sister or
somebody here at the house to be thrown away. It was just a

(01:52):
moving box. So anytime you see a moving box, you're like, oh, what
the hell is that doing? Okay, So I wasn't even
thinking about it until after being in the house for a couple
of minutes. And I said, well, I'll go grab that box off the front
porch here and, uh, throw it in the garage, get it to the
trash. You know what was in that box?
You know what's in that box?

>> RB (02:10):
Well, I know it was in the box, but, um, I'll act like I didn't
know what.

>> Jonathan (02:14):
I look into that box, and there are two puppies,
two little puppies rearing their head out, looking at me
like they just found a new home. And I'm thinking, no way.
You did not just find a new home. Although I am a
sucker for dogs. So I pull these dogs in
And I immediately go, what the hell am I gonna
do with these two dogs? And that kind

(02:36):
of just right there put me on my side a little bit. My axis. I was
thinking about Christmas Eve dinner. Uh, headed
back home to grab some bites with the family. And now I
got these two pups. And fortunately, you
know me, it's like, I'm not gonna give them just to anybody. I need
to find a good home for them, which was my
first responsibility aspect. After

(02:56):
cleaning them up a little bit, give them a bath, brush them down,
get some food.

>> RB (03:00):
But was there just timeout? Because there.
I mean, there was a note in the box. Correct?

>> Jonathan (03:06):
There was a note in the box that said, you know, hey, I
can't really afford these dogs
anymore. Two already passed away, and these
two were left. And I thought that this could be a better
home, which still.

>> RB (03:19):
Want to talk to this person. I want to talk to this person. Be like, how did you end
up. Because your house isn't, like, exactly
the. It's not like. It's, like, off the
main highway, right? You gotta kind of like, mosey on back and
gate and all that jazz. So
how did he end up on that one?

>> Jonathan (03:36):
Right? And I got great video
surveillance of it because I have cameras everywhere, so I'm
able to kind of see and zoom in on the face. Didn't recognize
the guy, but, you
know, you could look at it from, like, so many different
angles. Like, you know what. What a douche. You know?
Why would somebody do that? No, exactly.
My thought is, you know what? I'd rather him do that

(03:59):
than kill him. Then kill him. Or put them in the woods and let
them suffer. You know, that was,
um. That was a pretty wild
experience. But my boy TK up in Chicago,
um, sent me a package of a photo.
And I tell you what, this. This FedEx box looked like. It
was. It was a Jumbotron sitting there,

(04:20):
uh, right. Uh, before Christmas.
And to me, that was one of the coolest
gifts because it just captured a moment in time. It was
a phenomenal photo, naturally, of me,
okay, standing on the tee box at number seven,
Mystic M Rock from this past fall.
And beautifully placed. I mean, we're talking,

(04:41):
like, meticulous. This. This way this picture
just sits. Is huge. It's huge. So I
had it sitting out in the kitchen, and the kids were all
like, what is that? I was like, oh, that's
me. Where was that from? I said, that's when I played in the
US Open. Someone got his photo.
Photo.

>> RB (04:59):
They're like, a number of questions and maybe BCATs
would have been the one in the kitchen.

>> Jonathan (05:04):
But no, no, I didn't. I didn't even show it to
him yet. But, um, you know, so that. Taking it back now,
this has been a couple of weeks. A lot of things have happened. But going to that
point in time, those two moments were like,
you know, and obviously being with family, everything like that, you
know. Um, so, yeah,
man, that. That was pretty much a little bit about my Christmas.

(05:24):
Now, I understand you were a little under the weather.

>> RB (05:26):
I was under the weather. And, um, yeah.

>> Jonathan (05:29):
Good time with your kids?

>> RB (05:30):
Yeah, I had a great time with the kids, but it just stinks because
that day, Christmas Day, they're so excited. I'm
sweating bullets over here. I'm cold, I'm
hot, I'm all this stuff, and I'm laying on the couch and they want to play with their
toys at. Santa brought them, rightfully so.
And I couldn't exactly muster up the
energy to do it. Um, so
the 26th was a busy day, shall we say, Because I

(05:53):
started feeling better. Wasn't 100%,
but, um, we got it done.
And, you know, this
VR stuff, virtual reality
mask that Parker has. I mean, uh, he's gonna end up through
a wall, I mean, at some point.

>> Jonathan (06:10):
Or have seizures,
potentially.

>> RB (06:13):
Yeah, Yeah.

>> Jonathan (06:14):
I mean, because the brain is still developing and all this fast
twitching movement cannot be good for kids.

>> RB (06:19):
No, but it's there.

>> Jonathan (06:21):
So especially as your offspring, like, you kind of have
that tendency to begin with, like, squirrel.

>> RB (06:27):
Um. So, um. But other
than that, man, we had. It was an exciting Christmas for the most part.
Santa brought them each, uh, everything that they were
hoping for, and. And, um, it was just. It was an
overall. It was a good year, man. I was tough
on the golf game with the. With the broken ankle,
but, um, other than that, the year was great.

(06:47):
I'm not gonna let that.

>> Jonathan (06:48):
This is the time, right?
Did you get any golf gadgets, anything related to
golf? Like, this is the time of year
where guys get shit, right? Like the wife,
the ladies want to, like, impress. Like, for once
act like they don't care that we love golf, so they
just come out of the blue and buy a driver. And that's

(07:08):
the type of shit you can't just buy. It's appreciated,
but it's like, no, I did not.

>> RB (07:14):
I don't get anything. Like,
golf wise. I, uh, really didn't get much, dude. I
didn't want. I don't want anything.
Because we're at the point in our life where if we want it we
go get it, and then it makes it difficult for the
ladies to buy for us. And I completely understand.
So, um. Well, I didn't necessarily

(07:35):
get, like, oh, my God, that was incredible.
Uh, it was just. You know, actually,
my mom got me some of the best gifts up, but.

>> Jonathan (07:43):
Yeah, well, moms always do. And your mom's great.

>> RB (07:46):
And, um, then, you know, we.
We had New Year's at all the bowl
games, which was. Has been absolutely bonkers,
man.

>> Jonathan (07:56):
Nine days in. We're nine days into the new year already. Hard to
believe. And, you know, tonight, what is the
game for Green for New Year's?

>> RB (08:04):
What did I do for New Year's Eve? We went to a friend's house,
and naturally, I got intoxicated.
And, um. Do you do the
whole, um,
sauerkraut work on New
Year's Day?

>> Jonathan (08:19):
I mean, I have. It's not like, something I
make myself have to do. I just.

>> RB (08:25):
I do it every year.

>> Jonathan (08:26):
So if I was home for New Year's Day, I would have done it. Like.
Like last year, I did it. This year, I didn't do it.

>> RB (08:32):
Yeah, I, um. I love sauerkraut.

>> Jonathan (08:35):
Yeah.

>> RB (08:35):
But I only eat it once a year, and it's on New Year's Day, and, like, I.
I literally get so much sauerkraut, I'll put a
wiener on there, piece of pork,
cover all that in sauerkraut, no bread. And then I
just take yellow mustard and spray that
sauerkraut down. I mean, it's great hangover
food, too. Um, so that was. That

(08:55):
was really nice to.
To have that. And summer was sick on New Year's Day, so
I had to go to the old family house by myself
because the kids didn't want to go. So I'm there by myself, and I'm
like. And I'm watching bowl games and all
that stuff, acting like I'm interested in them.

>> Jonathan (09:10):
Yeah. Hey, what's the score? Yeah,
you know, we went to the Greenbrier for New Year's this
year, and that place was bumping,
dude. Like, I love the Greenbrier. I really
do. I think it's just an awesome
property. And Justin Beard at Sporting Club. Adam Perry. I got
to catch up with those guys. You know that that

(09:31):
track specifically is phenomenal. And then you take
it to the next level and go to the old white, which apparently this year was
in, like, superb shape. But it's a
really cool. It's just a cool spot. Ah, it's close to
my heart. But, um, it was so. It was so Damn
crowded. It was like. It's almost like. I
don't know, in some respect, I feel like the Greenbrier needs a little bit of a

(09:51):
facelift. But yet the fact that it doesn't get
that makes it that much more special, if that makes sense.
So people just don't care. In other words, they're like, screw it. You know what? We're
still going, and it's great, and food is great. Everybody's
great. So,
um, that's what I ended up
doing. And I mean,
Ohio State. Absolutely.

>> RB (10:12):
Well, you asked. I mean, you went
to the Ohio State Tennessee game.

>> Jonathan (10:17):
Yeah. That was epic, dude. Um,
I thought it was so funny that Morgan Wallen
was at that game a couple boxes down from
us, and it must have gotten out
that he was there. I don't know what gave it away.
Maybe the security guard gave it away that was guarding
the door. But, dude, the hallway. We went out to go to the bathroom

(10:39):
at the half. The hallway was lined with teeny boppers,
and they're like, did you see him? Was he in there?
And I'm like, who the are you talking about, man?
I just got to go to the bathroom.

>> RB (10:49):
You know, a 2025 goal for you.

>> Jonathan (10:51):
You're right.

>> RB (10:52):
Should really be maybe eliminating the, uh, F
word on the podcast a little bit, because
we have children. We do have children.

>> Jonathan (11:00):
You're right. You're absolutely right. And
honestly, it's like,
here we go. Like, I sin, and you're perfect.
Right. So call me out.

>> RB (11:10):
I'm, um, not perfect.

>> Jonathan (11:12):
I agree.

>> RB (11:12):
I just think that this has been brought to our attention a few
times, and the problem.

>> Jonathan (11:16):
No, mainly by my mom. Um, but, yeah, you're right. You're
right. It's a good goal.
I'll add that on my list for 2025.

>> RB (11:26):
Send it to the list, bud.

>> Jonathan (11:27):
I'm not. I'm taking. I'm taking
accountability on this one, and I am agreeing with you that
I should probably. But, dude, it just adds some emphasis to
things. You know what I mean? It's like.

>> RB (11:38):
But you'd be, like, freak.

>> Jonathan (11:40):
No, but if you're. Yeah, freaking.
Yeah, like, freaking.

>> RB (11:43):
Morgan Wallace was down there, like, freaking.

>> Jonathan (11:45):
Like, yeah, who the freak are you talking about? Yeah, that sounds better.
That sounds really good. That's cool. That's great.

>> RB (11:51):
Um, but I'm not perfect by any means.

>> Jonathan (11:54):
You're close, though. You're a great pal.
Uh, God, I just feel like there's
so much to even chitchat about. Dude, we. I had so many
laughs with you on this last Golf trip.

>> RB (12:05):
And I mean, that's what people don't understand, is that
he had. My man Ryan had to drive from
White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia
to Morgantown, West Virginia
on January, uh, second.
Moseyed around for a couple hours at the, at the house,
and then popped over to the airport

(12:25):
and we flew down to
Clearwater for our first golf trip
of the year, January 2nd.
You know, maybe our ladies do have a valid point.
Well, I don't know. Maybe.

>> Jonathan (12:41):
Let's talk about that, because here's the deal.

>> RB (12:43):
When is too early? When it's too soon? When it's too late.
Is January 2nd too early?

>> Jonathan (12:49):
Well, but then the other question would be if you, if you did a golf
trip around Christmas, they would, it would be, why
so late in the year?

>> RB (12:56):
Yeah.

>> Jonathan (12:56):
Uh, so now you just wait.

>> RB (12:58):
I'm trying to get it out of the way.

>> Jonathan (12:59):
Just wait another week, and then it's
like too early in the year. Well, it's not too early because it's
cold. It's perfect. There's all kind of different.
I think it's perfect because you get to spend a lot
of quality time in the two weeks leading up to that.
And then for three nights we get to go play golf. I mean, we play
golf. That's all we do. And eat dinner.

>> RB (13:18):
Mhm.

>> Jonathan (13:19):
But there were two golf trips going on when we, when
we were in Florida. So me and you were in Florida with Brandon Katz
of Michael George and Brian John,
Daddy Wap bailed.
Um, but then over on the west,
or I'm sorry, the east coast of Florida, you
had Steve peering, Ian Patrick, Anthony

(13:39):
Caruso moseying around that coast.

>> RB (13:42):
Mhm.

>> Jonathan (13:43):
Saw on Instagram that they played
Medalist. Now
the verdict from what I've heard, and I have.
Pierings called me today. I need to call him back.

>> RB (13:54):
He called me too.

>> Jonathan (13:55):
Okay, well, so he wants to hear if we know something about
how he played.

>> RB (13:59):
He's sniffing around.

>> Jonathan (14:00):
He's sniffing, you know, and then he'll.

>> RB (14:02):
Be like, hey, pal, how was your trip to Florida, bud?
Like, bud, you don't care how my trip was to Florida. Like you've
been. He. I told you, bud, he has
been. Hey man, safe travels to Florida. Well, Steve,
I don't leave for Florida for another three and a half weeks. Hey man,
safe travels to Florida. Hey, Steve, I don't leave for another three
weeks.

>> Jonathan (14:20):
Yeah, like, uh, right.

>> RB (14:21):
I don't know what to do. Well, I appreciate it, I truly
appreciate it, but it's almost like I just,
it feels like it's Getting to a point where maybe like.

>> Jonathan (14:30):
Mhm.

>> RB (14:31):
You don't need to wish me well three and a half weeks every
day to have fun in Florida. I am going to have fun
in Florida, you know?

>> Jonathan (14:37):
M and yeah, that's it. That's the type of friend that just cares
and wants to ask how you're doing. I mean,
and one thing about him is I've never seen him have a
bad day. Like I don't know if bad day
exists. You ever meet someone like that? Like, we're
kind of like Brian Johnson.

>> RB (14:53):
Mm. Mhm.

>> Jonathan (14:54):
We had two people on a golf trip with two first names
as last names.

>> RB (14:58):
Yeah, that's. See, that's something new, something different.

>> Jonathan (15:01):
Yeah. Um,
so anyways, but yeah, I saw they played medalist.
Heard through the grapevine some of the scores that were coming out
of there, some of the players involved weren't
that great. Not
in line with some, some scores that we have
heard people shooting late in the year.

(15:22):
But we get in
to. I tell you what, dude, that, that's tough.
Okay? Flying late like that, getting in somewhere
late, it's just tough.

>> RB (15:33):
But, but it was either that or 5am the
next day we take.

>> Jonathan (15:36):
And that's tough too. That's tough too. So you're right, it
was, it was good. But I kind of
regret not going to the pizza shop Thursday night. You
know, I would have rather had a slice of
pizza m than the.

>> RB (15:49):
Uh, burger, than the chicken quesadilla that I
had. That I'm sure that that cook
was not excited to cook at 11:45 at
night.

>> Jonathan (16:00):
Yeah, I mean, let's be honest.

>> RB (16:02):
You think he was? Oh, he. My day was about to be done and
these three yoyos, uh, come in wanting something to eat.
Now.

>> Jonathan (16:09):
So we played this course people called Ardia,
uh, Country Club outside of
Clearwater. A R D E A, I believe it's
spelled. And it's, uh, our good buddy's uncle's place.
And the greens, I gotta tell you,
they are ripping. That place is ripping. But here's one
thing I noticed about that place. I don't know if you saw
this, but they have parking

(16:32):
spots reserved for
their club champions for the previous year.
So, like the women's champion, this men's senior champion.
The men's champion. And we got there pretty
damn early on Friday morning.
And I was looking, I was kind of nosy. I'm looking at the cars
and there was a Ferrari parked on the left side.

(16:53):
Nice little Ferrari, one you don't see too
often. But then down
towards the Men's club champion
was this old classic
GTO. I mean, it had to be from the
80s. This thing, this muscle car just sitting there
ripping like. Like he's a
boss.
I mean, for driving that thing around, still

(17:16):
having to deal with probably all kind
of on it, and then parking that son of a. Right
there all day long. That's.
That's a move. Like, what are you driving
to country club? If you were to club champ
and you had a park in your spot.

>> RB (17:32):
Well, until two weeks ago,
uh, a, um, limited
edition club Toyota Camry.

>> Jonathan (17:41):
Why do you say limited edition?

>> RB (17:43):
Because it's an LE Bud
stands for limited edition, my book.

>> Jonathan (17:51):
The point to that was, I just think it's funny that they have
parking spots. Like, I haven't
seen that. I mean, I've won club championships before, and I had to park
a mile away.

>> RB (18:01):
But you barely got your name on the board.

>> Jonathan (18:03):
Yeah, I tell you one other thing, too.
That steakhouse in Tampa, Burns,
dude, the. I mean. I mean it.

>> RB (18:14):
Brian John got yelled at twice in three minutes
in the wine tour.

>> Jonathan (18:19):
Yeah, don't touch the wine. He's touching.

>> RB (18:21):
He's touching the wine bottles. Okay.

>> Jonathan (18:23):
Don't leave the line.

>> RB (18:24):
And then he just Moses off and starts going wine
cellar on his own. Like, bud,
can you just stand here, hands to your
side like we're in middle school, you know,
fingers tip straight.

>> Jonathan (18:37):
Down, right down, shoulder to shoulder.
The guy, the little guy giving the tour got a little bitey
there.

>> RB (18:44):
He got a little. He got a little teed off,
uh, whenever he touched it. Which, to be
fair, that could be a $4,000 bottle of wine that Bimmer was just, like,
pulling out of the.

>> Jonathan (18:53):
Slot or $200,000 bottle of
wine.

>> RB (18:57):
But that steak, dude, my God. Anybody that's never
been to Burns in Tampa, you have to go.
I'm telling you. Best deal in town.
Best deal in town. I got a
Delmonico, which for those of you out there,
that's a ribeye, 14 ounce
Delmonico with mushrooms,

(19:19):
onion straws, green beans,
baked potato soup, French
onion soup, which they're famous for,
and a salad. M. And that
was $85.

>> Jonathan (19:34):
That's. That's ridiculous. And
you got French dressing, and I got French dressing.

>> RB (19:39):
Homemade. But that steakhouse is
out of this world.

>> Jonathan (19:44):
It is interesting. The prices are that cheap when you think about
it, because you go to a place to get a steak, you're spending a hundred bucks on a
good steak.

>> RB (19:51):
Think about the bottle of wine that you got.

>> Jonathan (19:53):
That was a steal. We drank O3 Pinot Noir
de Mall, Russian River Valley,
2003 vintage. Now, the second
bottle, my man cracked a cork, so we had a little corky
flushing around in that wine. But that was an excellent
bottle of wine.

>> RB (20:08):
That was a very good choice, uh, from you. So you're
becoming quite the.

>> Jonathan (20:12):
I'm not. I'm just, you know. No, no, no. I
just. But seeing that
operation, they did a thousand seating,
a thousand dinners on New
Year's Eve, they ran out of silverware,
napkins. I mean, it's like. They
cut this. They cut your
steak.

>> RB (20:33):
Comes in.

>> Jonathan (20:34):
Yes.

>> RB (20:35):
Like, they're literally. They are. Uh, it was.
It really is. It's a cool experience because they take
you in to the tour after and they take you to the salad
station, which they're making fresh salads, which kind of a little pet
peeve of mine is, you know that
they just make salads like the day before, and they throw them in the fridge and they come
out. Right? Yeah, they're fresh. Making these

(20:55):
there. And then you go see the steaks, and they're pulling
orders, and they're cutting that piece of
meat for your order and putting it on a
dish and sending it to the
chef.

>> Jonathan (21:07):
Right.

>> RB (21:08):
Which, I mean, does it. I mean, it's literally coming off
the cow's ass to
you. Yeah.

>> Jonathan (21:15):
So how are you cooking your steaks?

>> RB (21:18):
How do I cook my steaks?

>> Jonathan (21:19):
Yeah, how you cook them?

>> RB (21:20):
So I have a smithy, uh,
cast iron skillet. And, uh, which.
They are the best cast iron skillets out there. I've had this for
about seven years. Uh, this particular
one that I use, it's a little deeper. Put
them in to sear it. So two minutes on one side, flip it
over two minutes the other. Salt, pepper, olive

(21:41):
oil, and then I put it in the
oven. Um, 375 for about
eight to nine minutes. Take it off, let it
rest. Bingo, bango bongo.

>> Jonathan (21:51):
Yeah. See that? Less is more with a steak, isn't it?

>> RB (21:54):
It's. You don't gotta do anything. Just
literally just sear it two minutes each side.
Boom, put it in, you're done. Put
butter in there, some garlic, some thyme.
And you got so much flavor in that steak.

>> Jonathan (22:08):
Yeah.

>> RB (22:08):
Like, don't screw it up.

>> Jonathan (22:10):
So, you know, we got the,
um. I agree with you, though, real
quick. That's. That's just the way to do it if you're cooking steaks.
But Saturday and Sunday, we had the
privilege, thanks to our dear friend, Mr. Brandon
Katsif, playing Pelican Golf
Club, which is a short jaunt. From his
place. So, 36 on

(22:32):
Saturday, 18 on Sunday.
Now, I was pretty stoked about
my new golf shoes. Okay. I,
uh, I got these shoes. I was on the
Internet, scrolling, and I saw these shoes, or they
reminded me of old skater shoes. Like, if you
guys were into skating, kind of
like an airwalk or. Or DCs,

(22:54):
or something like that. Um, so I like
them G4. And I'm thinking, this is a
great new addition to my shoe collection, which is not a
collection at all. So I buy these
shoes. Now, my buddy here, Mr. Pepe, is
fashion forward all the time with golf. I mean, he's got the
Jordan promo shoes, right? The tag says promo only.

(23:15):
So how do you get those? I don't know. I don't know. I actually
don't know. But my man has them. He's got the
swag, you know, from this guy, that guy, this
guy.
So outfits match shoes, shoes match outfit.
That's just how he rolls. Kind of like JR Hess.
So me, I'm like. I'm pretty neutral, you
know? Um, I'm just chill when it comes to the outfits.

(23:38):
But I was stoked about these shoes.
So I opened up my carry bag as we're getting ready
to go to the golf course, and I pulled my shoes out.
I said, check these out. And he said,
those are pickleball shoes, bud. I said, what are you talking about?
They're pickleball shoes. He said, those aren't golf
shoes. Those are pickleball shoes. I said, no, they're not.

(23:59):
I saw them on G4. They're. They were
advertised. Well, they were advertised
as something. So
apparently I made
the mistake of buying street shoes slash
pickleball athletic shoes for the golf course. But
you know what I said? I said, freak it. I said,
freak it. You know why I'm still wearing them? They're a

(24:21):
little. They were comfy.

>> RB (24:22):
I can honestly say that I have not had
that, uh, kind of laugh in a long time. He
kind of doubted me. And I'm like, dude, I'm telling you, these are pickleball
shoes. And we went to G4. And under
pickleball, slash lifestyle, there they are.

>> Jonathan (24:36):
There's my M shoes.

>> RB (24:37):
And if you look at the same edition shoe
in the golf version, it's got little nubs, like little spikes
all over it. Because you're playing golf and you need
to grab the turf.
These don't have any spikes at all. Which you
said that they were fine. But also, we were playing in Florida, where
it's not very hilly and things like that. So you got to take that

(24:57):
into account for later down on the road.

>> Jonathan (25:00):
Yeah. And I will say I think I bought the wrong size. I think they're
half size too small because by the end of that second
round on Saturday, um, all of
my toes were, like, squished together. And from my
toenails, like, just being
squeezed or squoze, whatever
next to my toes, they just cut the skin off my

(25:20):
toes. And it's not that my toenails are long, it's
just that they were kind of hitting the nail pretty good and just squeezing in
there. But that was, that was some, that was my
mistake. You know something, I was kind of pumped on New
year, new shoes, and, uh,
unfortunately I bought pickleball shoes, but I live that
one down. And honestly, I'll probably still wear them because they

(25:40):
did, they, they felt fine. I mean, I had a couple times I'm in the
bunker. Got nice traction, you
know, I, I don't know.
I mean, BCATs had the watermelons on.

>> RB (25:51):
He did have the, um, hot pink
with watermelon green, um,
G4s on that. They looked very nice, though.
They are perfect for where he is in life right
now, uh, down there.
So, um, but, man,
what a time at Pelican.

(26:12):
Everything there's top notch. Let's just get that out of the way. The food was
great. Like, dude, that banana pepper,
pepperoni pizza. We
played 36 holes on Saturday,
Pelican. And we moseyed in on
and, uh, ate some pizzas and wings. It was
dynamite. It was so good. It was easy.
Service is good. The people were

(26:34):
great. They treat you like a member, even if you aren't
one. Um, the caddies were great.
The caddies were funny. The course was in great shape.

>> Jonathan (26:43):
Caddies are great. Caddies are awesome.

>> RB (26:45):
Had some great fun, uh, with the money games.
Um, personal level, I
played pretty good on, on Saturday. Uh,
I was proud of the way on the second round, I got four over through four
and got it back. Sunday
was a different story, boys.
Different story, which I cannot believe. You only had me down
one gun in 18, with me shooting a 9

(27:08):
over 44 on the back nine.

>> Jonathan (27:10):
I gave it away. I, I,
I struggled immensely on Sunday, you know, just
kind of just not getting through the ball and kind of swaying a little bit
and hitting a lot of things a little heavy and, and whatnot.
But, you know, pep when it matters the most.
I came through.

>> RB (27:27):
You did. You topped a hybrid out of the bunker.
Got it up and down from about 120 for
par. Um, I naturally
on that back nine, I three whacked it. And, um,
like, literally was putting with my eyes
closed. Everything was going, like, 15ft
by, um.

>> Jonathan (27:46):
I can tell you right now with full
certainty, I am
certain. At par four. Opening up the chorus
number one. You got trees kind of lining the left
side, but just beyond the trees are
homes. And somebody must have been having a
birthday party Sunday morning, because There were
probably 12 cars lined up in front of these

(28:08):
houses, just on the streets, in the driveway, in the
yard, everywhere.
So for a guy that swings
the club path left, and sometimes
the face is a little closed, and that cut doesn't
happen, what do you do? You hit it
straight left, Straight. Pool piss
missile. So,

(28:31):
bcats, we already had family emergency going on, teeing
off, uh, on Sunday. I mean, couldn't find
his parents. So we're naturally a little bit worried about that.
Right. Like, legitimately. We're like, what's
going on here?

>> RB (28:43):
Yeah, you think?

>> Jonathan (28:45):
And you
said that so seriously,
you said, I mean, he can't find his parents because. Can't find his
parents right now.

>> RB (28:55):
I, um, Mean, I was concerned. I mean, how can one play
golf?

>> Jonathan (28:58):
I think we were all concerned.

>> RB (29:00):
How can one enjoy themselves and play golf when.

>> Jonathan (29:03):
I know. But the way you said it, it's like. It was like. It's
like saying something similar. Like, you misplace your car keys.
Like you can't find your car keys.

>> RB (29:11):
No way. Did I whatever mean that?

>> Jonathan (29:13):
No, no, no. But I'm just saying, when someone can't
find something, the, uh, the thing you just.

>> RB (29:18):
The way it sounded.

>> Jonathan (29:19):
Yeah, the thing you don't expect them not to be able to find are their
parents.

>> RB (29:23):
Well, BCATs we can confirm hit the car.

>> Jonathan (29:26):
We can definitely confirm that he hit the
car.

>> RB (29:30):
Okay. Because when we were hitting our second shot,
there was a guy out
there on his phone, which
even the Caddy of ours said he looks like he's looking at
damage to a car.
So bcat's got a breakfast ball
as he's walking down the fair. After he hit a second
shot, he gets a phone call.

(29:52):
Yeah, it's his mom. Everything's all right.
Well, so then BCATS rattles off a birdie on one.

>> Jonathan (29:58):
Yeah.

>> RB (29:59):
Didn't care they hit the car. We told him that.

>> Jonathan (30:01):
No.

>> RB (30:02):
2, he chips
it in, pull hooks his second shot into a
little bit of, um, pine straw. And
number two is such a hard hole. I think it's the
hardest hole out there. Um, and
B cats. I was right there. I was pin high watching it. He probably
had, like, 70 yards, and he had

(30:22):
a perfect shot and he dunked it in and he started
out.

>> Jonathan (30:25):
Birdie, birdie. Spun it back, dude. I mean,
spun it back from the pine straw. And so he goes
200 through 2. Um,
but being the guy that he is, I mean, this is the guy
that sees somebody at the airport and he's like, hey, do you
know, you know this guy? Whatever? And you're like, no,
I've never heard of him. He's like, well, that's him over there. And. And
BKATS gets up and goes and says, hello, how you doing?

(30:48):
Nice. I'm surprised he didn't check on the
car. The guy's outside on the phone with the insurance
company as we were walking, looking at the dents,
looking at the bust, the busted nature of
his vehicle. And,
um, it was not, you
know, it wasn't a worry for him, which
he had bigger worries at the time. So. I get it. I get it.

>> RB (31:10):
Saw a buddy, uh, uh, a, uh, friend,
um, and Chris McKnight at Pelican, so it was good to see
him. He's. He played in the old Memorial. Member,
Pro. Um,
and then he was on our flight home to la, which, the
flight.

>> Jonathan (31:24):
Home, I, I, I'm still not. I get home at
1am I'm still not. I'm still surprised it wasn't
canceled.

>> RB (31:31):
Well, what was there to cancel it? Was it bad heading down through West.

>> Jonathan (31:34):
Virginia when we hit West Virginia was bad, but that was
it. But no, it wasn't. You know, you're looking at this monster
storm.
Well, because, partly. Why? Because I wanted to
go play more golf on Monday, that's
why.

>> RB (31:47):
Where were you going?

>> Jonathan (31:49):
Well, I was gonna mosey on down to Naples and,
uh, talk to some of my old buddies, you know,
from up here, and play a, Play a little place, play a little
calusa. Get it in. All I hear
about is how great Calusa is it. You got to come down and play. You
gotta. Well, I had a chance to go ahead and do it, and I didn't
because I flew home to the blizzard. But it's

(32:10):
definitely, uh, it was a little surprising,
to be honest with you.

>> RB (32:14):
Yeah, we got home and that was
the best part about all that, so.
And generally, I am the one. Let's get that out there.
I am the one that's antsy to hurry up, get out of there.
Let's go. Let's do this, let's do that. Let's fly home
early. I was kind of chill, bud. You got to
give me that. I would say every once well, hey, we're delayed

(32:34):
again, but I didn't, like, uh, you know.

>> Jonathan (32:37):
No, you stayed present, which was one of your goals,
so. Yeah.

>> RB (32:41):
Yeah.

>> Jonathan (32:41):
But it was nice to meet Natalie Sheehan at
Pelican Golf Club. Now, she does a lot of stuff at the Golf
Channel. She, uh, actually played on the LPGA
event, um, at
Pelican, and, uh, we caught up with her on the
range. She teaches and does a lot of social media stuff
and. And again, has a show on the Golf Channel. So

(33:01):
we, uh, we invite her on the show
and sounds like she's coming on the show.
So I'm excited for that because I
think hearing someone from. From that type of
world is just what we need to kind of kick off the year a
little bit, you know?

>> RB (33:16):
Yeah, I think, uh, it'll be cool.

>> Jonathan (33:19):
She's married to the. She's married to the director of golfer. The head pro,
I think.

>> RB (33:22):
Justin, the head pro down at Pelican.

>> Jonathan (33:24):
I got you.

>> RB (33:25):
Um, but, hey, it's gonna
be a good interview. I, um, think we're. We're hammering the
details out with her over the next few days, and
that'll be the next episode. And then we're working on some other cool
things. I know Brady Singer's coming on. Rick
Ankiel. Um, Robbie
Berger says he's coming on. Uh, we've been trying to.

(33:46):
You know, I've been texting back and forth with Robbie trying to get
that hammered down. So we got some exciting new guests this year, and I
think that that is one of our goals this year. Not that
necessarily. If we miss one, we miss one. Give you
better, uh, interviews.

>> Jonathan (34:00):
Yeah, just better.

>> RB (34:01):
Just. Yeah, exactly. Instead of just throwing an episode out there,
just to throw one out there, like.

>> Jonathan (34:07):
Yeah.

>> RB (34:07):
I'll tell you what, I'm excited for this. The
new title, this ball, the new pro.

>> Jonathan (34:13):
That ball comes out. It's.

>> RB (34:15):
Our order is already in. Um, our boy Eric
Childers is taking care of us from. From Titleist on on
that. Um, and I cannot wait for that. Pro V1. We got
a chance to play a few of the. Those balls last year as the
prototype. Um, and, man, that thing into
the wind does not
falter at all.

>> Jonathan (34:34):
Yeah.
And on that note, with equipment, you know,
we got the GTs in the bag. Titleist new driver. Now, you
got to admit, you have to admit,
and I know I'm not the longest driver, but I
also am not short by any stretch,
but in that round that
we played Saturday afternoon,

(34:55):
and I was hitting that driver extremely
well. I was. I Picked up
distance, I would say.

>> RB (35:01):
Yeah.

>> Jonathan (35:01):
Uh, like, uh, noticeably.
I mean, there were. There. What?

>> RB (35:07):
Yeah.

>> Jonathan (35:08):
Yeah. So thank you. That's all I wanted to hear you say. Because
I know it, I felt it, I see it a
lot less spinny, um, ten
side, blue shaft, ten degrees,
half inch short.

>> RB (35:21):
You got the GT3, right? No, I think.
Where'd you get four? No, you got the GT3.

>> Jonathan (35:27):
No, I think it's a three.

>> RB (35:28):
I mean, I don't.

>> Jonathan (35:30):
I can't remember. Dude, like, sounds like a Pontiac.

>> RB (35:33):
It's. He's using the butt
end of a pickle ball as a grip. Big
pickleball guy.

>> Jonathan (35:41):
But the first event, um, for
2025, commenced this past
weekend. And Hideki
Matsuyama took it down over there in
Hawaii at Kapalua.

>> RB (35:53):
I mean, it sounds like you want to take a little trip over there. I was giving you a little
tour of the course. Um, I've been fortunate enough to
play it a couple times, and, um,
I think. I think you would enjoy yourself at Kapalua.

>> Jonathan (36:05):
You know what, dude? That's the part of the trip that I.
I forgot about. You and I in a hotel room Thursday night
together and ripping that thing.
Watching Hawaii on tv. You know, it kind
of felt pretty calming.

>> RB (36:18):
Vitamins.

>> Jonathan (36:19):
Yeah, it kind of felt pretty calming.
But the, um, new me M. The
guy shot 35 under. Now, I don't care
what golf course you're playing. I don't care if
you're pro, amateur, it doesn't matter. The
point is you.
That. That is a new

(36:40):
PGA Tour record. Apparently, from what, from
what I understand, 35 under in the golf tournament, four day
tournament. And then here's the other
crazy thing. Second place.
Morikawa, my man was
32 under, I believe. So
you're talking about two guys 35,
32 under. And then, you know,

(37:02):
the last third place cat was 29 under.
So you get 35, 32, 29 under
four. Dude, that is insane. Now, I understand the
elevation, and a lot of those par fives are very short, so
they're going to make eagles.

>> RB (37:16):
Still going to do it though.

>> Jonathan (37:18):
So that's the New Year Challenge.
You brought this up at our discussion, and I
think it's worth trying to adhere to,
which is keeping track of your total birdie count through
the year. Total birdie count for the year. It
doesn't matter what your total score of the year. Total
birdie count of the year. Can you. Because the question was,
have you made 35 birdies in a year?

(37:40):
So how many people out there can say they've made
35 birdies in one year of
golf. I mean, I
guess a lot of people can probably,
but, you know, for most.

>> RB (37:53):
Yeah, we should do it. We should do it. We should just keep a running total
of birdies. Or we can just May versus shooting
birdies, see who makes the most birdies in the year.

>> Jonathan (38:01):
Got a birdie challenge from January 1st to
December 31st. How many birdies did you
make in that count?

>> RB (38:07):
How's that only when we play together? Or is it any
round?

>> Jonathan (38:10):
Any round. What's your birdie count
for the year?

>> RB (38:14):
Okay, bud, look, don't yell at me, all right? I kind of get stupid.

>> Jonathan (38:17):
That's a good one.

>> RB (38:18):
I didn't make a birdie in the first two rounds there.

>> Jonathan (38:20):
I. I did, um. I didn't make
a birdie. I made one birdie in the final.

>> RB (38:25):
Round, and I shot 74 with no birdies.
And then I shot 72
with four, and then I had
two on. So I had six birdies. I own. Six
is my account right now.

>> Jonathan (38:39):
I guess you could add that in. And. And also I'm going to post
every damn score. I guess you could add.

>> RB (38:44):
You have to. Now, dude. Like, that's a thing now.

>> Jonathan (38:46):
So, yeah, I guess you can post, you know, in your. In
your gin app, your Hole
by hole. Not, I guess you can, but I'm saying you
can. That's a little bit too much work. But that
would be one way to track your birdies. If you're posting every round and
punching in hole by hole scores, which I'm.

>> RB (39:04):
Not gonna do that, so I'll send over to you. Six
is my start so far.

>> Jonathan (39:08):
Okay, well, I gotta. I.
I can't remember how many birdies I made. I
know. Saturday morning, I had three birdies in that
round. Saturday afternoon at 2,
and I had one on Sunday, so there's six.

>> RB (39:24):
There you go.

>> Jonathan (39:26):
Friday, I don't. Friday, I don't. I have to go through the
round. I made one birdie on Friday, so you're.

>> RB (39:32):
You're in the lead with someone.

>> Jonathan (39:33):
I made one birdie on that short par 4. The pin was on
the front. I made the putt.

>> RB (39:38):
Awesome. Well, I wish you luck in
that challenge. Um, yeah, I think it'll be fun to see how
many birdies we can make, and then maybe we can see how many rounds we've played, too,
just to see. But,
um, I'm really looking forward to the
chasing birdies. Two, man. This year, it's July 27th to
29th at Nemacolin.
Nemacolan

(39:59):
what do we have to say about that? I mean,
gusto. Gusto. It's pronounced
both ways out of this world.
Um, they. They are knocking out of the park with that
restaurant. Uh, the skiing's ripping now
this, the tubing's ripping the pools open.
There is so much to do in the winter time at Nemocol. Make sure you go to

(40:19):
nemocolin.com, maybe take your lady
there or your man there for
Valentine's Day.

>> Jonathan (40:26):
Yeah, that's around the corner. Definitely got
to check it out. And then summer will be here.
It's a great spot for that.
This weekend, though, dude, we have to continue our footing,
our football adventure. Um, we did pretty
well this year, but NFL, uh, wildcard
weekend kicks off here on Saturday.
And naturally, the Steelers play Saturday night, which they're gonna

(40:49):
get waxed. There's no two ways about it. They will
get thumped. In my mind when I was like, thinking
what they will be, I figured eight point underdog.
It was all the way up to ten. Now it backed
down to nine and a half. I don't know what it is right now specifically,
but the point is, I don't expect them to win.
They look like they're at their lowest point of

(41:10):
the whole season. They look awful. And
they're by far the worst team in the playoffs right now.
But with that being said, I
will naturally watch and en route and hope,
because that's what we got to do.

>> RB (41:23):
You got to hope a lot, bud. You better hope a lot because they've lost last
four. If they lose the fifth game in a row to end
this season, that is a complete debacle
in disgrace.

>> Jonathan (41:32):
And you got to look at some things, you know, I mean, again, we're
coaching here from the podcast, which doesn't
really count, but. No, but, but the Sony Open
also kicks off in Hawaii. Uh, and
unfortunately, Grayson Murray, who passed away this
year, he won last year, I believe in, in
2024, he won 17 under par

(41:53):
playoff with, um, Keegan
Bradley, I believe. So that kicks off this week,
and I always like it. Well, I, ah, kiss off today. I always like it
because it kind of gives us vitamin D through the television
screen because it's gray and we get to
watch some sun and, uh, talk
about it. So

(42:13):
at any rate, guys,
new year, same us, that's the theme, and
we're gonna ride it out again here in 2025.
And we hope you continue listening to us
talk about whatever a lot of things.

>> RB (42:29):
Keep chasing, stay chasing, and,
uh, we're looking forward to
2025 with y'all chasing underscore Birdies. Like
it, Love it. Tap it. Tell your friends
you don't like it. Don't tell anybody.
We can't wait to see you the rest of the year.

>> Jonathan (42:46):
Yeah. Guys, we appreciate you tuning in
today's episode of Chasing Birdies.
Thank you to Allie, Emily and Ivo over at Simpler Media for
putting this thing together. Jacqueline de Paterio, Rachel London
for all your help here on Chasing Birdies. And we
look forward to continuing this trend in 2022.
5 With all of you all, and

(43:06):
have a blessed weekend. We will catch you all
in two.
