>> Christian Kuntz (00:01):
What's up, everyone? This is Christian Kuntz with the Pittsburgh Steelers,
and you're listening to Chase and Birdies podcast.
>> Jonathan (00:12):
We are back this Thursday with a fresh
new episode of Chase and Birdies.
Thank y'all for tuning in today. My man
JP.
>> RB (00:23):
I look a lot fresher than the last time, huh? Ah, bud.
>> Jonathan (00:26):
Shit, man, the last time we tried to do this, it was
bad.
>> RB (00:29):
It was bad. So we just canceled the episode.
>> Jonathan (00:31):
Yeah. and no one. The best part
is no one said anything. So no one noticed that this has
been a month delay since our last release,
essentially.
>> RB (00:40):
So is that a good thing or a bad thing?
>> Jonathan (00:43):
I think it's a good thing. I think people slammed. Yeah, like,
hey, you know what? We expect it every other week, but at the
same time, we just want to listen to it whenever it comes out.
So here we go.
>> RB (00:52):
So today's episode is brought to you by. Red Vanley.
I just talked to Jim from Red Vanley. So go check them
out@redvanley.com. dot other new falls all winter
apparel is up. I'm still waiting
for boxes here, jimbo.
>> Jonathan (01:06):
but Jim's probably still recovering from
July nimacle.
>> RB (01:09):
He's probably, him and his partner. I wonder if him and tango have talked at
all.
>> Jonathan (01:13):
Yeah.
>> RB (01:13):
So how many out of the last
32 seasons of the Pirates baseball organization?
How many losing seasons do you think.
>> Jonathan (01:20):
They'Ve had in the last 32
years?
30.
>> RB (01:27):
28.
>> Jonathan (01:28):
Damn.
>> RB (01:28):
28 losing seasons. Last 32.
>> Jonathan (01:31):
So I should know this, but, are they going to have a losing season this year?
>> RB (01:34):
That's why that, that stat just came out.
Yes, it's official.
>> Jonathan (01:39):
You know, it's kind of one of those things where I was tuned in early
on in the season, things were kind of going right for them.
>> RB (01:45):
Dude. If they could have snuck into a wild card, they could have
went far with the pitching they have.
>> Jonathan (01:49):
I know. Yeah. But it's just
one of those things, again, where the. I feel like
this is what happens. Maybe the, the late season collapse kind
of takes place.
>> RB (02:00):
So tell us a little bit about pronghorn.
>> Jonathan (02:02):
Oh, shit, dude. So a lot to talk about here.
made the trip out west to
Oregon with the boys,
steve peering, Anthony Caruso, Eric Childers, and all
the old boys out there that I'm used to seeing. Hank
Ashworth, Casey, whole nine
yards, everybody. So, I'm not going to
sit here and bash piering because he's not here to
(02:23):
defend himself. But it was hard
to watch there the second day. But, I mean, I definitely
saw glimmers of his game being, a little
more tuned, if you will. I mean,
he wasn't losing any golf balls in the practice round.
The first three matches of the day, other than the
second match, he was out of it. But the first one and the third
(02:44):
match, he was kind of in it. Got some things going, felt
some good vibes. We were three points off the lead going into
the final two matches on Tuesday, and
my man just, he just, he just didn't have it. I mean, we're
talking. Couldn't get off the tee. Nothing
was going right for the guy. And I kind of felt sorry for him just simply
because I know he had high hopes. I know he had high hopes,
(03:05):
but, man, that place just lives in his head
rent free.
>> RB (03:09):
Is it place or you?
>> Jonathan (03:11):
It could be. It could be me. And, you know, I'm gonna. We're gonna have a heart
to talk. Hard talk. We kind of joked about it. Everyone's like, oh,
you guys gonna play together next year? I don't know. Going to have a
heart to heart talk and be like, Steve, it might be the best for both of
us.
>> RB (03:23):
To enjoy the weekend, right?
>> Jonathan (03:25):
To enjoy it. And we enjoyed it. We enjoyed it. But when
it's time to compete and all that jazz,
it might be best for us to go your own
ways. Might. Maybe. Maybe. But I said to him,
I said, bud, how many pars you have today? And I would tell
him, I just need you to make a par, especially on the
stroke holes. So he says,
(03:45):
five. And I said, steve,
you do not have five pars, bud. And I went through every
hole, and it was not five. I won't say the number, but it was less
than five, greater than one, less than three.
So, needless to say, we didn't get in
the horse race, but adot
and Eric Childers got in on a wild card. They put
up a shit ton of points on day two.
(04:07):
And, you know, that kind of was cool to kind of root them
on a little bit. But none of us, none of us won.
Yeah, it was a good time, though.
>> RB (04:15):
Well, it's good, man. It looked like you guys had a good time. I mean, it's
always nice to see you guys out there having a blast. I
was in the nemical member. Guest,
which we both have to say thank you to the
playing through boys for the gift.
>> Jonathan (04:28):
You guys looked like you were having a great time up here.
>> RB (04:30):
They presented you and I with Betnardi custom
putters, which, I'm putting really well
with it. I kind of wish I wasn't because I want to hang that thing on
the wall, but I'm putting really well with it.
And I know you are, from what I heard. Except the one footer, you
missed.
>> Jonathan (04:45):
I did. I did. Missed the whole.
>> RB (04:47):
It was a net only event. So that kind of. We had a
little uphill climb there. but
Cole Taylor made a three for two, on eleven at
Mystic Rock for his skin the last day. So made a little eagle
for a double eagle, made a bomb, which was awesome
to see. He was excited. He jumped up, got six inches
off the ground. It was great.
>> Jonathan (05:07):
No, the excitement sometimes
adds that little bit of adrenaline rush.
>> RB (05:13):
Then the playing through boys had Charles Kelly from Lady
Antebellum perform Sunday night, and they knocked it out of the
park. So it was all around a great
time and first class event put on by
Nemicoland. So thank you to them.
>> Jonathan (05:27):
It looked great, man. I was kind of following along there. Well,
I got to see y'all Friday before I left on Saturday, rolled up there, see the
boys. And I'll tell you, the putter, it just blew me away. Not so
much. The fact that the putter is. Is incredible, but
the thought gesture behind that. You know what I mean?
>> RB (05:41):
Gibson guitar that I used when I was on tour.
>> Jonathan (05:44):
I mean, what do we. What did we do to deserve that? So I
did. I took it. I took it to Oregon. I sent y'all a picture. And I was
rolling the rock great. Overall. I rolled the rock ball great.
But that putter, it has a different little feel. I
like it. It was kind of what I was looking for. but no,
it looks like you guys with that. That event Sunday
night, guitars are out.
>> RB (06:04):
It was a good time. And so now the
big conversations whirling around up here in
the, tri state area. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
is. Pittsburgh Steelers are three and.
>> Jonathan (06:16):
Oh, they are three and. Oh, man.
>> RB (06:18):
And, I think you and I went five for
seven, or I went five for seven on.
On Sunday. I don't know. I think you took one more game. I didn't
really like that New Orleans Saints game that you sent.
but I won five or seven, and that was big. Cause Saturday was
brutal.
>> Jonathan (06:34):
Yeah, no, Sunday was a good day for the boys in that
regard, but also for the Steelers. I mean, the defense
looks dominant. The offense, Fields is doing things that
I thought, you know, maybe he could show,
maybe not. but they're coming to life, man. And it's fun to
watch. Again, I think they said that the defense has
allowed, what, under 30 points
this is the first time since, I don't know,
(06:56):
seventies. They've allowed less than that through three games.
>> RB (06:59):
well, when Boswell attempted that 64 yarder, I
was thinking about what we talked on the podcast with today's guest,
Christian Coons, long
snapper, how he should get points in fantasy football,
and I felt like that was the right one to that. That would have
been awesome if they made that and he got some points, because that would have
been a bomb.
>> Jonathan (07:18):
See, that's what I'm saying. I bring that up in a podcast. There should be that
tank, that tango.
>> RB (07:22):
Yeah, not. Not yet. Well, some
points for the long snapper. Getting it to the. The
holder. Holder. Yeah,
I kind of agree with you, so. And I think Christian kind of liked that,
too.
>> Jonathan (07:34):
He did. I think he liked a lot of what we had to say.
>> RB (07:36):
So, with that being said, why don't we roll it over to Christian?
I mean, he's a hometown boy. Went to
Duquesne University, undrafted,
even though I try to get him drafted in the conversation.
but now playing for his hometown team, Pittsburgh Steelers. So
let's roll it on overdose to Christian Coons.
>> Jonathan (07:53):
There we go. Little four week
hiatus from the podcast here on chasing birdies. But you
fellow listeners out there, you loyal listeners out there, we are
in for a ride today. And
we're with the long snapper. Not a turtle, but our man,
Christian coons, the Pittsburgh Steelers. My man. Thank you for
joining us today, man.
>> Christian Kuntz (08:12):
Yes, sir. Thank you for having me. I'm not going to lie.
Chasing birdies. I'm more of, like a chasing bogey type of
guy. I'm playing bogey golf. It's good. So. Yeah,
but the chasing bird. I mean, obviously birdies, but,
man, those are tough to come by for
me.
>> RB (08:26):
But should we start your podcast off like you do?
>> Christian Kuntz (08:29):
Yeah, no, that's how I end. That's how I end.
>> RB (08:31):
That's how you end it. All right, boys, we'll end it.
We'll take it to the next week with that.
>> Christian Kuntz (08:36):
All right, man.
>> RB (08:37):
I'm so glad to get you on here because, obviously,
I, mean, let's just keep the episodes going where we mentioned
Brandon Katsuff. but we met you through
Brandon Katzeff, and, I've had some run ins with you in the store,
and you're hilarious. So I'm really looking forward to this one.
>> Christian Kuntz (08:52):
Yeah, I appreciate. I appreciate it. Yeah, Brandon got
me. He, you know, he whacked me over the head
down at Joyce's, so.
>> Jonathan (08:59):
Yeah, yeah.
>> RB (09:01):
Little rascal. That's what he always does.
>> Christian Kuntz (09:03):
He got me good down there now. He takes care of us.
>> Jonathan (09:06):
He gets you, bud. He always goes with the. The
retails, this. But your price is that
you gotta love it. You can't do anything else. You just gotta buy
it at that point. Damn, dude. What a deal.
>> Christian Kuntz (09:17):
That's so true.
>> RB (09:19):
Well, your best price. Best price is this,
gone through the engagement process a couple times. So,
he's gone through that.
>> Jonathan (09:26):
Yeah, no, no doubt, man. But I heard.
I heard a lot about you. You know, Pep was telling me a little bit, like,
you're obviously pretty, pretty, funny guy
and good sense of humor and whatnot. I was like, dude, this
is exactly what we need right now at this point in time, on a
podcast, because we skipped a week.
We skipped our two week mark last week, so this is actually going to be,
(09:46):
you know.
>> RB (09:46):
Do you want to tell him why, though?
>> Jonathan (09:48):
Yeah. Well, the reason why we missed the
episode is because my man was in Nashville and we were
supposed to do just a banner session. We always do, just him and I.
And we got on the mics, like we are now on Monday morning,
and he was laying in bed, no shirt, his hair is
everywhere. he's like, I can't even think right now. And we
start to record, and like, 20 minutes into it, I'm like,
(10:08):
dude, go
Nashville.
>> RB (10:11):
Nashville was the 14 nothing
Nashville that day. I mean, it was insane.
>> Christian Kuntz (10:17):
Yeah, it was bad. I love
it, man.
>> RB (10:20):
There's a lot of things for you to congratulate you on. You had a
two, two year contract. You just signed
back with the hometown team. Local boy.
I mean, it's like. It's like the Neil Walker of the Pittsburgh
Steelers.
>> Christian Kuntz (10:34):
Yeah, I mean, I didn't how many years in Neil Walker play. He
played quite a while.
>> RB (10:37):
I think he was eight or nine, maybe.
>> Christian Kuntz (10:40):
Was he? True? He wasn't drafted the Pirates, was he?
>> RB (10:42):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (10:43):
Yeah, yeah. Wow. That's pretty sweet,
but I didn't know that. But, yeah, I mean, I'm. I guess, I don't know, dude. I
don't even, like, realize it. Like, I've told you that when I talked to you
in Joyce's. Like, it's not even. Like,
it doesn't even seem real. And I've said that so many
times. Like, I've said that on my pod. Like, I. It doesn't. It
truly doesn't feel real. I just, like, wake up
(11:03):
and go to go to practice. Like, then I'll come home
and I'll be, like, watching film, and I'll think.
>> RB (11:09):
What am I doing?
>> Christian Kuntz (11:10):
Shit. Like, yeah, what am I? Like, what the hell am I
doing? Yeah, I'm, in there.
>> RB (11:14):
Yeah, it's crazy, but that's the cool thing, too.
How much more fun is it? And I know people don't consider what you
do work. They think it's all fun and games, but they really don't realize it is
work. But you come home every
day from work, and you're happy, and you're excited to go to work.
Like, that's so important in life, no matter what you
do.
>> Christian Kuntz (11:32):
Yeah, 100%. Like, dude, I'm. I'm not gonna lie.
Like, I'm stressed during the season. Like, I want to play good.
Like, obviously. Like, this is my job. Like, this is our
right. Yeah. Like, so it is kind of. It
is stressful, but, like, to say
I get to play football for a living and, like. Like,
what the hell am m. I. What am I bitching about? You know?
(11:52):
So it's, like, crazy. There's a lot worse
things, for sure. Yeah.
>> RB (11:57):
But. But that's with anything, right? Like, I mean, I'm
so lucky to work. I work with Brandon, and then I work
with this yo yo right here. This
stuff. I'm very, very lucky and fortunate to do
what I do on both sides of it because I enjoy and I have a blast
doing it. It's not like this podcast bringing us any money.
>> Christian Kuntz (12:18):
Yeah, but, I mean, maybe this is.
>> Jonathan (12:19):
The episode, and apparently, with all the jewelry
discounts, maybe that's not even bringing you money either, bud.
>> Christian Kuntz (12:25):
Yeah, all these are. Hey, this is the retail
price. This is what you get it
for.
>> RB (12:34):
we'll get back into the football, but the next congratulations
is. And I need to get into it, is you're. You got
married at one of our favorite places,
a sponsor of the show, Nemacolin.
And there's some rumbling that some things happened
up there about a couple of things missing,
and. And, you're not the first one with the dog, I'll
(12:54):
tell you that. did you hear who else
did that?
>> Christian Kuntz (12:58):
Yeah, I heard that story. That's. That's why I had to, like,
I had to send him a picture, like, holding that dog the night before my
wedding.
>> RB (13:04):
Yes. Yes. Matt Barkowski, actually.
But I think you were more or less just holding it. Matt
Barkowski was on a mission to steal it.
>> Christian Kuntz (13:12):
Yeah, I, like, went down on one knee and kind of picked it up
and took a picture. I wasn't knowing
they're a sponsor. I wasn't doing anything with the. With the
dog?
>> RB (13:21):
Well, so, yeah, he, took it. I got pictures the next
day from the security team up in Nemicola. Him walking through hallways,
and he hid it outside behind a bush.
So they were on a search for that for a whole night?
>> Jonathan (13:34):
Come on, Bart.
>> Christian Kuntz (13:34):
That's hilarious. That was the best story I've ever
heard. When Brandon told me that.
>> Jonathan (13:39):
Oh, yeah, I heard some stories about Bart recently
at shard. Tears, too. But we won't get into that right now.
>> RB (13:44):
We won't get into that.
>> Jonathan (13:45):
We won't get into that right now.
>> Christian Kuntz (13:47):
belong up to the sharteers, do you?
>> Jonathan (13:49):
The french club, baby.
>> RB (13:50):
All right. We got some boys up there. You know Brian John?
>> Christian Kuntz (13:54):
I don't. I joined in April.
>> RB (13:56):
Guy with two first names. You never can't trust them.
>> Christian Kuntz (13:59):
I probably seen him on the t sheet.
>> RB (14:01):
Jared Detwe.
>> Christian Kuntz (14:03):
Definitely seen that name on the t shirt. I
haven't been up there with the wedding this summer and stuff. I didn't really get a
chance to go up as much as I wanted, so this is the summer where
I'm, like.
>> RB (14:15):
Kind of the guy that we. We nicknamed Fig Jam.
Fuck, I'm good. Just ask me.
So don't worry. He'll be sure to tell
you.
but also the suit, dude, we got to hear. I
heard that you finally found the David Allen suit
he custom made for you. So tell us a little bit where it went
(14:36):
and what the hell, dude?
>> Christian Kuntz (14:38):
I don't know. I'm a big sweater. So, like,
we were killing it on the dance floor. I was sweating my ass
off. Like, I brought a couple extra shirts
to change into, so I went. I went to change my extra
shirt because I was sweating, like, through my. Through my
first shirt. So I went to change my shirt, and I took my jacket off,
and I can't remember, like, where exactly I put
(14:59):
it. I think I put it on the back of, like, somebody
else's chair that was, like, in our wedding.
Like, not in the wedding party, but, like, at the wedding.
And, I don't know, it just got misplaced, and, like, no one
found it for, like, three weeks. And then Alexis
Allen, our wedding planner, called us and was like, they
found. They found the suit jacket. Like, I had my pants and stuff,
(15:19):
obviously, but, like. And I had the extra stuff. So I didn't go in
there and put the suit jacket with the extra stuff, the extra shirts that I
had, because I had all that stuff. I just lost the jacket.
She called and said they found it. Like, I think it was,
like, in a closet up there somewhere. Someone, like, hung it up in a closet.
>> RB (15:34):
It was a responsible thing to do. You just forgot that you did that.
>> Jonathan (15:37):
I'm sure that was that. Did that jacket have your
name on the inside of it?
>> Christian Kuntz (15:41):
It has my name. It has our wedding
date. It has a picture of my dog on the inside.
>> Jonathan (15:47):
Your dog?
>> Christian Kuntz (15:48):
I have the jacket. It's literally right here.
>> RB (15:51):
I love that. I mean, it's like a game used, jacket.
>> Christian Kuntz (15:54):
I know. So I'm like, the jacket's
famous jacket again.
>> Jonathan (16:00):
You wear that jacket ever or you don't?
>> Christian Kuntz (16:02):
I mean, it was kind of like my first, you know, I've had, like, a black
suit, but that's, like, my first, like, fitted one.
J. David Allen's legit as hell,
so. Yeah, that's, like, my first real nice
suit.
>> RB (16:14):
You felt good, though, didn't you?
>> Christian Kuntz (16:16):
Yeah, I did. That thing's like, dude,
he made me another suit that's, like, stretchy
material, like, more athletic wear. Like,
it's unbelievable.
>> Jonathan (16:26):
Do you ever get tired? You got to wear suits on travel days,
right?
>> Christian Kuntz (16:29):
No, no, we don't wear, like, no sweat
outfits.
>> RB (16:33):
Yeah, this isn't like the university.
>> Jonathan (16:37):
I see the boys posting photos. They look like they're hanging out for
a Gucci mag photo shoot.
>> Christian Kuntz (16:42):
Yeah, that's m. I wear the
bull sweats, dude. Yeah. Like, I
mean, I. When I'm traveling, like, I want to be comfortable,
but the new David Allen suit would be comfortable
sometimes.
>> Jonathan (16:55):
What's my boy Zach Frazier traveling?
>> Christian Kuntz (16:58):
I think he's a bull sweats guy. I think he's in the
sweatsuit. A lot of guys wear the sweats.
>> RB (17:04):
We got a photo, that I am going to bring up to
you right now of our
boy Zach Frazier with bash
down at Pete Dye golf club.
This is on May 2.
I mean, this is. These two are doing.
>> Jonathan (17:20):
Yeah, he just picked me up by my. The back of my
shirt.
>> Christian Kuntz (17:23):
Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry. I'm, like, real closely. He's,
he's a big boy. I want to,
not want to get blocked by him.
>> RB (17:31):
Bash is, like five foot, 6120 pounds soaking
wet.
>> Jonathan (17:34):
148, but rocks all,
baby, baby. Here we go.
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (17:42):
Yeah, Fraser's. Fraser's, a large man, dude. Like, I would
not. He could probably pick me
and you up like that, too.
>> Jonathan (17:50):
Yeah, no doubt.
>> RB (17:51):
So fast, rewind back to when
you played college football at the Duquesne
University. Go, Dukes. thank you. Then
you got drafted by Denver, and
you signed your first contract, or.
>> Jonathan (18:06):
What's wrong, Pat?
>> Christian Kuntz (18:07):
I didn't get drafted I didn't get drafted. yeah, I
wish I got drafted.
>> RB (18:11):
Can we just roll with this?
>> Jonathan (18:13):
Well, that would be false.
>> Christian Kuntz (18:17):
We could have just rolled with it. I should have just
said, yeah. Yeah. I should have took the
traffic. I was undrafted free agent. New England, Denver,
Jacksonville, all that stuff.
>> RB (18:27):
Okay, so you
celebrate. So you sign your first contract with
the Pittsburgh Steelers, and you celebrate by playing around with
golf. You want to tell me a few things that
happened there? I've been digging a little bit, my
man.
>> Christian Kuntz (18:44):
I mean, we were definitely.
>> RB (18:46):
You were celebrating?
>> Christian Kuntz (18:47):
Yeah, we had a couple drinks on the course. yeah, it was the
offseason. my buddy was.
We were actually on 18. We were behaved the
whole round, and we behaved the whole round. Like,
this isn't even that bad, but one.
Whoever I was driving with, I can't even remember. Forgot a
club on the last hole. We were on 17 going 18,
(19:07):
so we were playing in Neville woods. You cross
the road to get to 18. And, my
partner went back, so I just hopped on the back of, like, their
cart. Like, there's already two people in the cart. So I just,
like, got my club and just, like, hopped on the back of the
cart. And we're crossing the road, and we get
across the road, you have to go up, like, this little hill.
(19:27):
And you know how, like, the cart, like, catches?
>> RB (19:30):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (19:31):
It's, like, skidding, and then it just catches and goes. So I'm like, on
the back, and he's going up the hill, and we've been.
We were drinking, obviously, like, we had a couple. Couple drinks,
and he just. The cart
catches and he tail whips it.
I fly off the cart. Like, I just signed.
Like, I was like, oh, my God. Like, this is.
(19:51):
Yeah, this is. This is dumb. And, like, thankfully, like,
I fell in the grass. There was fescue
there. High fescue. I fell in the high fescue.
It was all good, but, yeah, we,
right. And, like, if you ever played Neville.
>> RB (20:06):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (20:06):
Everybody waits for you on 18. Like, you could see everybody. It
was like, around that corner. I don't know if they could see, but
they probably heard the cart screech and, like,
looked out. I was laying in the fescue.
>> RB (20:17):
That's amazing.
>> Jonathan (20:18):
Funny, man.
>> RB (20:18):
I was getting all kinds of info today and tell.
>> Christian Kuntz (20:20):
How'd you get that?
>> RB (20:21):
I can't tell you. I got one more that we'll bring up, too.
But, I mean, other than the rain guard missing from the golf
cart, Neverwood's been looking for that.
>> Jonathan (20:29):
So peps got sources,
dude. Christian, I'll tell you.
>> Christian Kuntz (20:33):
Ripped off, too.
>> Jonathan (20:37):
Yeah.
Uh-huh.
>> Christian Kuntz (20:41):
Contacting me.
>> Jonathan (20:42):
Well, these guys last week, they're at
Nemicolon. Pep and I was in Oregon for a
golf event, but pep's up to Nemico with a bunch of the country
guys, and they take this photo on this piece of
art, and I'm like. I thought
to myself when I saw that on instagram, I'm like, what in
the hell were you guys thinking?
>> RB (21:01):
But it's art on a level. Mystic, you know, to the
left, the frame.
>> Christian Kuntz (21:06):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
>> RB (21:07):
Well, I don't think six people were supposed to sit on that thing, but
we did.
>> Jonathan (21:12):
No.
>> Christian Kuntz (21:15):
Aren't they a sponsor of the show?
>> RB (21:16):
Yeah, it's all right. It's fine. Everything's fine. Everything's
replaceable up there. That's fine.
>> Jonathan (21:22):
Oh, yeah, sure.
>> Christian Kuntz (21:24):
Yeah, they can afford it up there.
>> Jonathan (21:25):
So, what's your, What's your podcast?
>> Christian Kuntz (21:27):
It's just a christian coons podcast, man. I got m
my two friends, Vinnie and Trey. they work for one
team media, and, you know, they kind of. We kind
of just yuck it up. Kind of just. We kind of just jumped
into it, dude. Like, we didn't really. We met on it. We
talked a couple times, and then, like, we were like, fuck
it. Let's just do it. Yeah, we
just. We did it. It's been fun, dude. I kind of. I like it. I
(21:50):
like getting in the guests and, like, being able to talk to the guests
and let. Ask the guest questions, find out about the
guests, and. Yes, like, it's just cool.
>> Jonathan (21:59):
Yeah, no, it is. And honestly, people don't realize this,
but having a podcast, especially one
that's regular, whether
it's by monthly or
it. It takes a, There's a little aspect of work that it
takes to get it going
100%.
>> Christian Kuntz (22:16):
It's not. It's a lot of work, and it's, you know,
people. I I'm in, like, a studio,
too, so, like, we do a studio. Like, we have the
calling guests, but, like, the camera and, like,
talking to a camera through people. Like, it's
not easy to do. No, I think it's just, like, easy to
get out and just act. you know, but it's not easy to get into, like, a
(22:36):
mic and talk or in front of the cameras talk.
>> RB (22:39):
Yeah, it's very different. It's very different. It takes
you a couple times even, like, for yourself. You have a great
personality, and you're hilarious and you're outgoing, but still. Did you put
that mic where you're like, okay, what are we gonna talk about today?
>> Christian Kuntz (22:51):
Well, yeah, yeah.
>> RB (22:52):
Start searching for things, right? Yeah. True. yeah,
from our friends, like, what you're doing now. And it's
like, I had him drafted and he wanted to. He wanted to take the pick
away.
>> Christian Kuntz (23:02):
Yeah, that was bad. I should just let that roll.
>> Jonathan (23:05):
But, yeah, if you're in person with someone, when we do. When we
get the opportunity to do interviews in person,
you just feel that energy a little bit more. You kind of like, you know,
you don't even feel like you're recording anything, but whenever you're doing
it like this, you know, I'm looking at you, you're looking at me. We're looking at him.
Who's talking now? What's going on? It's like. But
it. You know what? It works, though. I
(23:26):
don't mind it. yeah, so.
But that's cool. I was the, the
Kelsey brothers made out with their podcast, but.
>> Christian Kuntz (23:33):
Oh, my goodness. I mean, they
sell for a hundred.
>> RB (23:37):
Million, or that's what it was, 100 million.
>> Jonathan (23:40):
But, yeah, podcasting could be good. Yeah, that's a
moral story.
>> Christian Kuntz (23:44):
It's. Yeah, that's more of the story. But it is fun. It's
fun. It's a nice little hobby, but
hopefully.
>> RB (23:51):
Yeah, it is fun. And,
you know, and you could. You can be yourself, too. You don't have to be
so buttoned up, right. Like, in the locker room, you gotta. You got to
answer questions correctly and
properly and all this other stuff. At least you can have of fun on the mics of some of
your buddies and some guests and a lot of people you've had on. I'm
assuming you're your friends in some capacity.
>> Christian Kuntz (24:11):
Yeah. Yeah. They're all people that, you know, I'm connected with, either
teammates or, former steelers that
I've met through, like, events and stuff, like Arthur Mozambique,
Arthur moats, Charlie Batch.
It's been cool, dude, just to talk to people and about their journey
and, like, everyone's. Everyone's got some crazy ass story,
too, like how they got to where they. They're at or like, what
(24:31):
they've been through. So what makes podcasting
cool?
>> Jonathan (24:34):
Charlie Batch is a g. I mean, this cat,
listening to him in preseason and all that jazz, he knows all
the. I mean, he's just like. He does. He doesn't
go away. You know, him and him and pop man together,
it's like, pumping ain't easy, babe. Shit.
>> Christian Kuntz (24:51):
Batches. I mean, Charlie's been. He was in the league for
what, like 16 years or something? I mean,
he's. Yeah, crazy. He's a good dude.
Really good dude.
>> Jonathan (25:01):
So what do you do for recovery? Because our boy on the,
podcast with us right now had to go through a lot of recovery with his
broken fibula over the summer. And you being in
the NFL, you really got to deal with pain. Him, I don't know. But
you. So, what are you guys working in right now
with respect to that dude?
>> Christian Kuntz (25:18):
Before I answer that, I saw him at Joyce's with his.
With his soft ass walking boot on.
He had this sorry puppy dog face on.
>> RB (25:26):
I was so depressed on his computer. I was
depressed.
>> Jonathan (25:30):
So he was probably like, what's up, man?
>> RB (25:32):
Yeah, yeah, what's up, dude?
>> Christian Kuntz (25:33):
But, for me, recovery, I mean, I'm in the
cold tub every day. sauna, cold
tub. keep up with
my mobility, like, my hip mobility, my stretches,
my shoulder mobility. and then the massages
that I get and, like, that kind of treatment.
>> RB (25:50):
Man, massages every day. Could you imagine?
>> Christian Kuntz (25:52):
it's not every day. Every day. Damn. I wish.
I mean, I guess you could. We could get, like, why
not?
>> RB (25:59):
You need it.
>> Christian Kuntz (25:59):
Yeah, you're right. You're right. I guess there are massage
therapists in there. They're. They do, like, ten minute
increments, like, on a muscle that you.
>> RB (26:06):
All I need. That's all I need. Ten minutes. Give me a quick
rub down, and we'll move on to the next thing.
>> Christian Kuntz (26:13):
You're hilarious.
>> RB (26:14):
I mean, but I played college golf. You know what I got? I got a
sleeve of titleist golf balls once a week, and they wanted me to make
that last in that one tournament. Like, this stuff. I love to
hear this stuff.
>> Jonathan (26:25):
Like, the whole tournament they want.
>> RB (26:28):
I mean, I was wearing Tommy hilger figure m our uniform with
Tommy Hilfiger polos from seven years before we
played.
>> Christian Kuntz (26:35):
Dude, how long did that sleeve last?
Seriously?
>> RB (26:38):
Not very long.
>> Jonathan (26:40):
He probably still has some balls, to be honest with you.
>> RB (26:42):
Balls laying around. Some get your hurt
on. but, yeah, like, that's
what people don't realize, too, is how much goes into it for your
body. Even in the. In the off season, dude, you're. You're
having to constantly take care of your body. Eat right.
Don't get me wrong. You might have fun one or two nights
a week and drink some beers in the off season, but other than that,
you gotta kind of take care of yourself. 365
(27:05):
days.
>> Christian Kuntz (27:07):
Yeah. Like, I have to make sure that
I'm, you know, doing the right things. Especially, like, last year, I hurt my
ankle. I sprained my m ankle in November against Green
Bay, and just like, that, lingered around all
the way until, like, you know, a month
ago or something.
>> RB (27:22):
That's crazy.
>> Christian Kuntz (27:23):
Now I'm like, I was doing. I do extra ankle work,
like, after with the strength coach and, like.
And stuff. Build
my. Yeah, build my ankle back up. You should start doing that shit.
>> RB (27:35):
But I've been. You know what they had me do
today for the first time? I had to start jumping.
Yeah. They had me doing, like, jumping like that. I was jumping
up like this.
>> Jonathan (27:48):
Look at him.
>> RB (27:49):
Meanwhile, I got these shorts that are way too tight on me.
>> Jonathan (27:53):
Like, you're gonna break your other bank.
>> RB (27:55):
Yeah, well, that's true. Like, I haven't. The girls, like, we
just did 30 seconds. I'm like, I'm exhausted. Like,
I'm.
>> Christian Kuntz (28:01):
Yeah, 30 seconds. That'd
be hard.
>> RB (28:04):
Give me a cigar and do. I'll do this.
>> Christian Kuntz (28:07):
Yeah, after you. Yeah. Hit a hole in
one. You can jump for two minutes
straight.
>> Jonathan (28:13):
So did you get hurt?
>> RB (28:15):
Was it in Green Bay or in Pittsburgh?
>> Christian Kuntz (28:18):
In Pittsburgh. Just got rolled up
on and.
>> RB (28:22):
Man, that's. That's a tough job.
You got people. That has to be one of the most. I
actually watched a video today of you doing the giant eagle thing, which is freaking
hysterical, where you were like, yeah,
dude, that thing is so funny. But the one guy even said,
and it's one of the most
overlooked positions on the field, and he might be
right.
>> Christian Kuntz (28:42):
Yeah, it's definitely, everyone's job is
hard. Like, every. I don't even know how to explain
it. Every. Every single guy's like, I'm thinking
of, like, a slot on punt team. A guy that's, like,
on the edge of the punt, like, he has to block,
essentially a guy pass, rushing him to block the
punta. He's not paid to do that. That's normally, like, a
safety running back type body. Like, and you're
(29:05):
asking him to basically pass block. you know, we've
put her big out there to pass russian, so it's like, people
don't realize the other
jobs that are in it. Like, they're. There's.
There's some dog shit to everybody's job.
>> Jonathan (29:20):
On fill goals. Are you snapping to Boswell or the
holder?
>> Christian Kuntz (29:23):
To the holder. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
>> Jonathan (29:25):
So I think that there should be a rule. You should get an assist,
dude. Like, week one, you should had six points,
six assists. Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (29:33):
Maybe they could put that in the, Maybe like, a fantasy
league can implement that.
>> RB (29:38):
Assist for the long snapper. That's
actually a pretty good idea, dude.
>> Jonathan (29:42):
I know, because he's getting the good snap now. The holder
might. Yeah, you know what? Forget about the holder. It's a
snapper. Getting it right there. That's what I
would.
>> RB (29:52):
Yeah, what if it was a bad
snap and then the holder covered it for him?
>> Christian Kuntz (29:57):
You said it, not me. Peppy.
>> Jonathan (30:00):
Wait, I mean, okay, so that takes me to this. What
if.
>> RB (30:03):
What if the new recreate the NFL right now?
>> Jonathan (30:06):
But what if the new team you can draft in fantasy
is the long snapper holder
duo and you get points based upon
how many field goals are good idea as a team.
So, like, it would be you and the holder. I don't know.
>> RB (30:20):
I'm not opposed to that.
>> Christian Kuntz (30:22):
And you can. And you can put in net punting if you want
to draft the punter.
>> RB (30:26):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (30:26):
Whoever has the best net average.
>> Jonathan (30:28):
Right.
>> Christian Kuntz (30:30):
See, we should create our own league.
>> Jonathan (30:32):
Yeah.
>> RB (30:33):
Actually, bash, you might be into something, but I'm.
>> Jonathan (30:37):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (30:37):
Thanks. That was a cool moment.
>> Jonathan (30:39):
Yeah, that was. That was.
I did somebody else. I do gotta make money off. I do admit
I. I love fantasy football.
>> RB (30:47):
You do it, not you, Christian.
>> Christian Kuntz (30:50):
No, yeah, I know. I haven't played fantasy. I don't even remember
when my brothers are like, dude, I've never done it.
Really? What the hell's wrong with you? I feel like, ah, every.
>> Jonathan (30:59):
Dude, what is wrong with you?
>> Christian Kuntz (31:00):
I would be playing fantasy if I wasn't in fit, if I wasn't playing football.
>> Jonathan (31:03):
I feel like he wasn't playing real football.
>> Christian Kuntz (31:05):
Whatever. Dude does. Plays golf and plays
fantasy football.
>> Jonathan (31:09):
Yeah.
>> RB (31:12):
Give me an icy light.
>> Jonathan (31:13):
Yeah.
>> RB (31:14):
Manny, sandwich. Are you an icy light
drinker?
>> Christian Kuntz (31:17):
I like icy light. I do. It's, it's, it's pretty
good. My pap used to drink it, and I remember that
crushing cans and taking them.
But, yeah, I like icy light.
>> RB (31:30):
I like to hear that, I guess, you know, supporting the local, the
locals.
>> Jonathan (31:33):
So I thought that brewery got bought out recently or
something.
>> Christian Kuntz (31:37):
I think something did happen. I'm not, I'm not positive
on what it exactly was, but I think you're right, B.
>> Jonathan (31:43):
Cats knows the story. He knows the guy that he knows.
>> Christian Kuntz (31:45):
Everything is all the drama he does.
>> Jonathan (31:48):
I mean, the guy, if you need something. Hey, B, what happened on
42nd street last Thursday? He was like, that was John.
John Ritchie that fired a shot there.
>> RB (31:56):
Yeah. And he was president of
ICU.
>> Christian Kuntz (32:02):
He's definitely going to listen to this, huh?
>> RB (32:03):
yeah, 1000%.
>> Jonathan (32:04):
Well, maybe nothing, maybe not.
>> RB (32:06):
Actually, there's. Sometimes we question if he even, like, pays attention to
us.
>> Jonathan (32:09):
Yeah.
>> RB (32:10):
Like, hey, us over here, we're your buddies. But now that
you're on it, you know that you're on, he's definitely gonna
listen because he knows he's gonna get. He knows he's gonna get
mentioned. Yeah, we might just cut
that out.
>> Christian Kuntz (32:22):
Yeah, we should cut it out. What an attention whore.
>> Jonathan (32:25):
Yeah. Fomo, my
man.
>> Christian Kuntz (32:28):
Oh, that is funny.
>> Jonathan (32:30):
Good start, though, to the season, my Mandez. So let's keep.
Let's keep it rolling. Let's keep it rolling.
>> Christian Kuntz (32:35):
Huge to announce. Huge, bro.
>> Jonathan (32:36):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (32:37):
Especially two road wins. Like. Yeah, just
massive. So, I mean, you gotta keep it. I know we only have one
touchdown in two games. And, I mean, dude, every time
I'm, like, eating lunch in the
cafeteria, every tv talks about this. I feel like it talks about the
Steelers, everyone. Why did I turn it
off? I don't even watch tv at home. M like, dude, I watch Netflix. That's it.
(32:57):
Netflix. Who? Whatever.
>> RB (32:58):
Yeah, but you from here, you have to. You have
to know that. And being.
>> Christian Kuntz (33:03):
Yeah, but. But I'm saying, like, even national
tvs, like, every time I put on ESPN, it's like.
Or good morning football, they're like, yeah.
Steelers. Justin Fields. I think.
>> RB (33:14):
I think that it's a, I think it's one of the more interesting
stories in NFL. Honestly,
you look at it, it's kind of. If Russ and I.
You don't have to comment on anything on this, but if Russ starts to get better
and come back, then it's almost like a, What do we
do right now? Now it's a little bit of a story that they're
trying to create.
(33:34):
I don't know.
>> Christian Kuntz (33:35):
Yeah, and you just said it. A story that they're trying to create.
>> RB (33:38):
Exactly.
>> Christian Kuntz (33:39):
If. If we're. If we're 40,
they're just gonna keep rolling. I don't. That's.
>> RB (33:44):
Why change anything?
>> Christian Kuntz (33:46):
Exactly. So, I. There's no question. And then as soon
is.
>> RB (33:50):
That's. That's. That's equivalent
to a PGA Tour player leading
through 36 holes. Okay. They're leading a PGA Tour
event through 36 holes, and they fire their caddy Saturday morning.
They bring a different caddy in. That's what you're essentially
doing with the quarterback. He got you to
four. No. Okay. And now you're going to say, you know
what? You're. It's not like he's a.
(34:12):
Either one of them or a starter, by
a long shot. They're. Whatever. They're fighting for a
job right now. At this point.
>> Christian Kuntz (34:20):
Yeah. So, they're just
trying to create a story and just all over the
place all the time.
>> Jonathan (34:26):
But my favorite is.
Yeah. Is reading Mark Madden's post
on tribe. I mean, the guy, like,
the Steelers could win by like 58, and he'd be
like, they should have had 63 there.
>> RB (34:40):
Yeah. He hates it.
That's part of it.
>> Christian Kuntz (34:44):
Yeah. I mean, he.
>> Jonathan (34:46):
He loves all sports, though. It's. Even
with the penguins, though, really.
>> Christian Kuntz (34:51):
He does it for every. I know he probably doesn't
pirates so bad.
>> RB (34:55):
Oh, my God. He buries them.
>> Christian Kuntz (34:57):
Or he probably doesn't even care anymore enough to,
like, say anything about the pirates.
>> RB (35:03):
He kills them. But I think they, But I mean, man,
I'm. I might be a little nuts, but, I don't think
the pirates are that far off. I
really don't. If they can get. And this is asking a lot, but I
think if they can get a couple bats in there. Do
you look at their pitchers that.
>> Jonathan (35:18):
They have loaded for a couple more
years?
>> Christian Kuntz (35:22):
But, bro, how many times have we said that? Look at the pitches we had. We had
Garrick Cole, we had glass. Now we had all these guys that were saying, look at all
these pitchers. If we just get bats and they never bring in bats.
>> Jonathan (35:30):
Right.
>> Christian Kuntz (35:30):
There's a Yinz are right there. Telling you the truth.
>> Jonathan (35:33):
That's right.
>> RB (35:33):
So, growing up, what was your sport to follow in
Pittsburgh? Duquesne basketball or whatever?
>> Christian Kuntz (35:38):
No, it was definitely the Steelers. It was definitely
Steelers. And then pirates,
penguins, penguins.
>> RB (35:46):
Third.
>> Christian Kuntz (35:48):
Yeah.
>> RB (35:48):
Wow.
>> Christian Kuntz (35:49):
And then,
>> RB (35:50):
That's interesting.
>> Christian Kuntz (35:50):
Actually, it was probably pirates,
pit basketball, penguins. This is
growing up penguins. And then,
I mean, then Duquesne.
>> RB (36:01):
That's really interesting.
>> Jonathan (36:02):
Dude. They, made it to the tournament this year.
Man, that was huge.
>> Christian Kuntz (36:07):
Duke ain't above pit. Pit hoops for me.
And, you know, above, I would say
everything besides Steelers.
>> Jonathan (36:15):
Yeah. When I was in college, Duquesne,
I went to W and J, so I didn't go too far from Duquesne,
but, yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (36:23):
Yeah, my brother went to WJ.
>> Jonathan (36:25):
Oh, did he? What year do you graduate?
>> Christian Kuntz (36:28):
Oh, shit. 2011.
>> RB (36:32):
Is he the one that's been.
>> Jonathan (36:33):
I graduated zero nine, so I probably. I probably saw
him, knew him.
>> RB (36:37):
I don't know what
I said. Is he the one that's better than you, golfer?
>> Christian Kuntz (36:44):
Well, I don't know if he's better than me at golf.
We're. I think we're even on the year, but, yeah, he
claims he's better than me at golf.
>> RB (36:51):
We're talking about Jim right.
>> Christian Kuntz (36:52):
Yeah. And I. Yeah, you. He's not
better than me at golf.
>> RB (36:56):
That's. Again, I'm not. I got no
dog in this fight speculating. I just have
heard speculation. I
just heard that Jim might be a little better.
>> Jonathan (37:07):
Hey, I need to say something, and I know we're gonna
talk about golf, but I gotta say this, because Christian being
a yinzer, by default, this will make sense to
him, and it'll make sense to you, too, because you travel. But
I love any time I'm traveling
somewhere back to Pittsburgh, whether
it's on a Wednesday, a Thursday night, Friday
(37:27):
morning, doesn't matter. You always look at someone
and you know they're from Pittsburgh. Not because of the Steeler
jerseys they're wearing on a Wednesday.
Not because of the hat they're wearing, just
because of the look that they have. It's like, yep, yeah, we're
going back to Pittsburgh with. This guy's wearing his guys for
sure. and it's like, shit, man.
(37:47):
And then, you know, it never fails. Dude,
I just flew back from Denver. It was the same thing. It's. It's a
Wednesday evening, and. And there's three people on the
plane with their Steelers jersey. Like, the game was over four days ago,
bud. How about change the shirt?
>> Christian Kuntz (38:01):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That is so
true, dude. It is. The Steeler fans are.
Dude, you hear it from other guys on the team in the locker room, too. Like, we.
We truly do have the best fans. And I know every,
like, guy in the NFL says that about their fans, and they're just.
They're literally just saying that. Like, we truly
do.
>> Jonathan (38:18):
Yep, yep.
>> Christian Kuntz (38:20):
not being biased, I think, though.
>> RB (38:22):
All of us being from Pittsburgh growing up, I can tell
you. I can't tell you how many times. Just growing up,
dude. Four, five, six to 15 years
old, you're in your grandparents basement, and you're all watching
the Steeler game, and it was just the thing to do
in Pittsburgh. There was not a person that was not
a Steelers.
>> Christian Kuntz (38:40):
Yeah, it's 100% true. Every
Sunday, we'd be, you know, at my papal's house
or something.
>> RB (38:47):
Yeah. We'd just be looking forward to stealing
pierogi, some rigatoni.
>> Christian Kuntz (38:52):
Oh, you know,
some good food.
>> RB (38:57):
Yes.
So, that's right. Let's talk a little
bit about golf, because that's what we're on here for. We understand that
you're the. You're chasing birdies on the
football field, being the. Being the
best you can be. but on the golf course,
you've. The short time I've gotten to know
(39:17):
you. Every time we've talked, the conversation
gets brought to golf, which means you love the
game.
>> Christian Kuntz (39:23):
I do.
>> RB (39:24):
Where'd this all start for you?
>> Christian Kuntz (39:27):
this all started. I think I was in. I was probably
in like high school. Jim. Jim, my brother, my older
brother came home. One of my older brothers came home, the better of the
two, home from college. And I think he's like, we're
going to take you to Scallies. You guys ever been to
Scaly's?
Pittsburgh Scalli's is a par three.
It's nice. It's a par three out in moon and.
(39:49):
But, like, balls fly everywhere, dude, that's where I feel like you
go to learn how to play golf,
Scallies. So we go and, you know, we're on the
on one's tee box. It runs parallel to
eighteen's green. One's tee box, 18
green are sitting right next to each other. The holes run parallel. Whatever. It's like a
lynx style course. And I'm getting ready to tee
off and we just get, no
(40:11):
forecall, nothing. And I just get
absolutely crushed in the side with the ball
coming. Line drive from nine. Right here
in the side.
>> RB (40:21):
Oh, my God.
>> Christian Kuntz (40:21):
I'm like, in my stance, about to swing the first shot of my life,
and the ball waxed me. yeah, dude, no
forecall. And Jim's like, this is
what you do when you don't hear a forecall. Picks up the
ball and he chucks it all the
way over, over the 18 green.
Like over far, dude, like, you threw the ball far, like,
you're not going to hit your second shot from over there, right?
(40:44):
So the guys come up to the tee box and, like, after I hit
whatever. And, like, you guys see a ball come over here? And we
were like, no, no, we didn't. Like,
we didn't see anything. Sorry. And that was.
That was like how I got into golf. That's the first day I played
golf.
>> Jonathan (40:59):
But you didn't tell him that, like, you, like, just hit me.
>> Christian Kuntz (41:02):
No, we didn't say anything. It just hit me. And it, like, didn't really
hurt, honestly. And then jim just picked it up.
>> Jonathan (41:07):
And out of rage. Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (41:09):
He was in, like, he was young in college. I was. I was
in grade. I might have been in 8th grade. 8th
grade.
>> Jonathan (41:16):
Jesus.
>> Christian Kuntz (41:17):
Hilarious.
>> RB (41:17):
And Scaly is where it all started.
>> Christian Kuntz (41:20):
That's where it all started for me. And then I got my first
set up, probably like a year and a half year after that. I
mean, we were just kind of sharing clubs. And then
once I got half decent, which I'm not. I'm not by any
means good, but I mean, once I got half decent, was
gambling on the course and, like, competing. Yeah, we
were. I was all in. I was like, I gotta get good at this now. I'm like,
(41:40):
now I gotta get really good at.
>> RB (41:42):
But, you probably absolutely smash a
driver.
>> Christian Kuntz (41:45):
No, I mean, dude, I hit it. Yeah. Really hard. But it's.
It's. It's a slice. Because my swing, I'm so, like, over
the top and I can't fix it until I switch.
>> RB (41:53):
Yeah, you gotta. So good drill for that
because if you're going over the top, your arms are all moving,
every which way, right? Tuck in a golf
glove under your left arm and that's gonna
cause you to stay connected. If that golf glove falls out, you're.
That's where your arms are starting to get too far away from your wife's arm.
>> Christian Kuntz (42:11):
If I'm righty.
>> RB (42:12):
Yeah, if you're righty. So you're gonna.
Yep. See, it would fall out right there. So it's. You're
putting it right here and you're. It's teaching you to stay
connected.
>> Christian Kuntz (42:24):
See, I like that. That's what I'm gonna do.
>> RB (42:25):
So it'll feel
so weird, but
that'll help you.
>> Jonathan (42:32):
That's the.
>> RB (42:33):
I'll send you a tutorial.
>> Jonathan (42:35):
I mean, what's. But it sounds like you play a decent
amount for.
>> Christian Kuntz (42:38):
I do.
>> RB (42:39):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (42:39):
I mean, I joined a country club.
>> Jonathan (42:40):
So I. Yeah, I mean, I play a decent.
>> Christian Kuntz (42:43):
Just, like, I haven't really got past shooting.
Like, my
mid range is like 87 to
94 every time, but, like, I need to break
through that. I need to be like, either 87 every time and then,
like, like 87 to 95 everywhere
besides Oakland. Want to get fucking chewed up there.
>> RB (43:03):
Yeah, but I feel like for somebody in that
range, you would save some.
So many shots putting.
I don't even. I've never seen you play.
>> Christian Kuntz (43:13):
I'm actually a decent putter. And, like, my short game is great. Might.
When I'm not off the tee, dude, like, I hit. It's so inside
out. I literally am one of those dudes that, like, you would tag
in an Instagram video. Like, if you want to win
a, hundred million dollars, tag one buddy, that,
you know will slice the ball. It's right here.
>> Jonathan (43:31):
And the ball will come back to you.
>> Christian Kuntz (43:34):
yeah, but, like, bro, I'll play it and it'll be good.
Like, I'll hit it still 240 with a.
I'll hit it by 330, but it'll land 230
center.
>> Jonathan (43:44):
Yeah.
>> RB (43:45):
Shorter is a good spot. Dude, it's tough.
The French? The French?
>> Christian Kuntz (43:50):
Yeah, it's tough. It's. It's a tough coaster.
>> RB (43:53):
What are they calling.
>> Jonathan (43:53):
The greens are great.
>> Christian Kuntz (43:55):
Yeah. The greens are lightning. Click quick. I don't know.
Don't ask me any history questions about why they call it short years. I
don't know.
>> RB (44:01):
French. No, no. Why do they call it the French?
>> Christian Kuntz (44:05):
Oh, gosh.
>> Jonathan (44:06):
Maybe because Shartier is, like.
Shartier.
>> RB (44:11):
Shartier. Country. That's what you should call
country club this weekend, boys. Are there a
bunch of other guys on the team that play with you or you kind of,
like, singled out a little bit?
>> Christian Kuntz (44:22):
no, boss. Boss is an avid golfer, and
he's a stick. Kyle Allen plays a
lot. I haven't played with him, but, we tried to get out, and he plays a lot,
and supposedly he's a stick. I know
Boz is a stick. dirty red plays
Medicaid. I know TJ plays a little.
Who else? There's some o
(44:42):
linemen that play.
>> RB (44:43):
Oh, lineman playing out there.
>> Christian Kuntz (44:45):
Fraser.
>> Jonathan (44:46):
Zach plays Fraser.
>> Christian Kuntz (44:48):
Yeah. Frase plays because I was going to get him out to short tears.
Yeah.
>> Jonathan (44:51):
Yeah, he can hit it.
>> Christian Kuntz (44:53):
Yeah. Bad. I mean, strong as an
ox.
>> Jonathan (44:57):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (44:58):
Swing with one hand.
>> Jonathan (44:59):
Yeah. Yeah, I feel like. So what's. What's
your handicap right now, like, if you had to have one?
>> Christian Kuntz (45:07):
Yeah. Ah. I think. Unless I'm. I did play.
Let me check it right now. Hold on. I'll get you some.
>> Jonathan (45:13):
I mean, bud, we might do all right in, an
event, bud, where we're getting some strokes.
>> Christian Kuntz (45:17):
Oh, yeah. I'll get out there and I'll hit a
couple. 14. for 14.
>> Jonathan (45:23):
Four. There we go. And see, that's legit. See, people,
I love it. At least you're not. At least
you're not sitting here saying you're a ten.
>> Christian Kuntz (45:31):
Oh, dude. No. I play honest golf.
There's no other way to play it because I. You know, I'm not going to screw
myself when I go to gamble, people, right?
>> Jonathan (45:40):
You want to. You want to help yourself.
>> Christian Kuntz (45:42):
Exactly. Like, I'm not even that I want to help myself. I just want it to be
honest.
>> Jonathan (45:45):
Yeah. Because golf's an honest game, and that's what
we do.
>> RB (45:50):
Maybe next year. You know what, bash?
>> Jonathan (45:52):
What's that?
>> RB (45:53):
Our man here, he's a big. He likes
Picasso paintings.
>> Jonathan (45:57):
Oh, my God.
>> RB (45:58):
But maybe get my man into the Jason
birdies. Two man at number colon next summer.
Well, I mean, it's
a blind draw event, so we put a players with b
players do a blind draw. That's where we did the
Picasso video for everybody. Yeah,
that was nice. There were kids walking by. I mean, we got a guy with a
cowboy hat on, naked, drawing a painting.
>> Jonathan (46:22):
did you see the video?
>> Christian Kuntz (46:24):
I saw. I saw everything. I saw. I saw too
much.
>> RB (46:28):
That's actually like a gift that you give somebody on a team
and you don't tell them. Right. Let them
hang it up a little bit.
>> Christian Kuntz (46:36):
Yeah.
>> RB (46:37):
And then you like, hey, dude, by the way, this
is. He did that.
>> Christian Kuntz (46:40):
You're sick. You're sick.
>> Jonathan (46:42):
You should tell them that. They should really feel the texture.
This is a pain.
>> RB (46:47):
Feel it. Just rub your hand along it.
That mushroom stamp at the top. Right, just. Yep. That's good
luck.
>> Jonathan (46:56):
Just feel it.
>> Christian Kuntz (46:57):
Wait, so explain the scramble, Pepe.
>> Jonathan (47:00):
Oh, best ball.
>> RB (47:01):
Off topic. Best ball. So it's a best ball
event. We have chase the birdies. Two man John Barry, who played in
the NBA for a long time, won it this year. him and
his partner took home ten grand. But it's a blind dress,
so you have no clue who you're getting. We take all
the low handicaps. 1st, 24.
Lowest, handicaps are an a player. The rest are b. So we draw
(47:22):
an a player with a b player, that's your partner for two
days.
>> Jonathan (47:25):
It's a blast.
>> RB (47:27):
It's.
>> Christian Kuntz (47:27):
How much cash is everyone give in?
>> RB (47:29):
Blast? so each team, 750.
So 375 a man.
>> Christian Kuntz (47:35):
Yeah.
>> RB (47:36):
I mean, dude, it's sick.
>> Christian Kuntz (47:38):
Yeah. My. I'm a true. Whatever. I told
you.
>> RB (47:42):
When? Yeah. Ah, your camp, though, we're doing end of
July.
>> Christian Kuntz (47:45):
You do it late in July. Ah. devastating.
>> Jonathan (47:48):
That's true. I forgot about camp.
>> Christian Kuntz (47:50):
I mean, I feel like I was just in camp. We'll
talk about it. If it works. It works, but, yeah,
it'd be sweet. I like shit like that.
>> RB (47:58):
If not Jim, the better one of the two can,
look at him.
>> Jonathan (48:04):
You get him all rattled.
>> Christian Kuntz (48:05):
I'm not rattled. He just.
>> RB (48:08):
Jim just said, who's better?
>> Christian Kuntz (48:11):
Jim?
>> Jonathan (48:11):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (48:12):
Because Jim is focused on golf.
>> RB (48:14):
I'm like, you have an actual living,
right?
>> Christian Kuntz (48:19):
He's golfing.
>> Jonathan (48:20):
Did he play at W and J?
>> Christian Kuntz (48:22):
He did play. He played football at W and J.
>> Jonathan (48:24):
Okay. Not golf, because I played golf at WJ,
so I don't.
>> Christian Kuntz (48:28):
You guys have crossed, you know we have.
>> RB (48:30):
Sure. The golf team and the football team cross, the athletic.
>> Jonathan (48:32):
Yeah. Well, back then, maybe not, but nowadays,
absolutely, yeah. Golf's
cool. Everybody knows it.
>> RB (48:41):
Everybody's digging on golf right now. It's insane.
>> Christian Kuntz (48:43):
Yeah, Covid, like, sparked, resparked
golf.
>> RB (48:46):
Made it fun, made it cool, made it to.
>> Christian Kuntz (48:48):
Things always been cool.
>> RB (48:50):
Yeah. I'm not saying, but I'm saying it got
so big.
>> Christian Kuntz (48:54):
Oh, yeah, yeah, you're right.
>> RB (48:54):
Like, we put our time in to be, like,
we have the right to be there before you. Yo yo's right.
During COVID They just came out of the woodwork
100%. And now all of a sudden, we're all big
golfers. No, not in this. Not in this
lifetime.
>> Jonathan (49:10):
I played this golf course I had never played.
It's not too far from here in Cheat Lake. It's up in Deep Creek,
Maryland, and it's at the
Wisp. It's called lodestone, which you've probably heard of it, I think,
how Irwin designed it back in the day. But any rate,
so I went up there, a couple weeks ago with a couple buddies
of mine, and again, I just. I never played it,
but I got invited to go. So, I'm open to it. And
(49:33):
I got to tell you something. That course
is beautifully designed. Like, the layout is
absolutely gorgeous. The way it's cut through the mountains, you kind of
get views of the lake. If
somebody had like six
to $8 million, maybe call it
ten Max, just to throw it into that
(49:53):
course, that course would be
incredible. It was. Conditioning
wise, it was awful. It was
awful.
>> Christian Kuntz (50:02):
What. What's your. What's your top courses
in, like, Pittsburgh? Laurel.
Do you like Laurel?
>> Jonathan (50:09):
Me personally, I mean, I really. I do like
Laurel. Absolutely. I really like Laura. But
fox chapel, I just. And maybe cuz I played it a decent
amount, but I really like Fox chapel. I got to really start
liking Allegheny recently.
>> Christian Kuntz (50:24):
I played Allegheny once, but.
>> Jonathan (50:27):
So those two courses, I. You know, and Oakmont's obviously
great, but Oakmont's one of those courses where.
I don't know, man. It's. It's. It's a phenomenal golf course, but
I enjoy playing Fox chapel more.
Yeah, Oakmont's very difficult. Have you ever played down.
Ah, Pikewood. See, I'm in Morgantown. That's where I live.
>> Christian Kuntz (50:49):
I haven't played in Pikewood yet. I talked to Brandon
about it. I just haven't had. I was
playing with the wedding this summer. Next summer is gonna be my.
It's gonna be my year.
>> Jonathan (50:59):
Okay.
>> RB (50:59):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (51:00):
My golf year. Yeah, for sure.
>> RB (51:03):
Good, good. You deserve it.
You deserve a golf summer, a gulf summer.
>> Christian Kuntz (51:08):
After this, after the Super bowl, that's right.
>> Jonathan (51:10):
After you get that ring, let's go.
>> RB (51:13):
So like, yeah, let's discuss
that. You went a Super bowl. What's, what's the plan,
dad? What's the party like?
Where are we going? Where are we going?
>> Christian Kuntz (51:25):
I don't know. The party will be
wild.
I mean, I remember when we did, we went
0705.
I remember seeing, you know, those streets and the parking
garages slam packed with people fucking hanging
from railings, everything. It was great.
>> RB (51:43):
I went to Station square and
just boozed. I was
too young, according to law, but
I was too young. So I mean, like, yeah,
I mean, dude, there's so which your, what's your
watering hole that you go to around here? Like when you and your
buddies from high school go out, where are you
(52:03):
gonna have a couple beers?
>> Christian Kuntz (52:06):
I don't know. Because I live in a strip. I'm probably going to like
Cooper. I don't know,
somewhere downtown.
Try to stay away from the south side. I want to
go to the south side. Walters. I like Walters in
Lawrenceville.
>> RB (52:20):
Southside just isn't the same. Huh? Huh?
>> Christian Kuntz (52:22):
No, south side's no. I lived there for
three years in college.
>> RB (52:26):
That's sad.
>> Christian Kuntz (52:27):
It just went downhill.
>> RB (52:29):
Yeah, it's Sadhesthe. I mean, I used to, I
used to love going down there. But I will go down there for a little Carson street
deli sandwich.
>> Christian Kuntz (52:36):
Oh, I could do that. Oh, Carson street deli,
that's.
>> RB (52:40):
That. And Nacom is not even the same anymore
to me.
>> Christian Kuntz (52:44):
Not nothing. Nothing down there is the same.
>> Jonathan (52:47):
Is diesel still there?
>> RB (52:48):
No, but. Diesel. But, well, that
dies.
>> Jonathan (52:52):
I mean, but it's not like, that was kind of a cool spot
back in.
>> RB (52:55):
It was a great spot back then. A day you got bottle
service. Couldn't make
ends meet that time. Make m. But I sure as hell could have
bottle service.
>> Christian Kuntz (53:05):
Yeah, it's yeah, like out.
It's so funny. It's so true.
It's so true.
>> RB (53:12):
No, you guys want to get a bottle? It's $300. We can
all split it like 30 ways. It's $10 a person. Come on, let's
just do it.
>> Jonathan (53:19):
And you didn't have them back then.
Oh, crazy.
>> Christian Kuntz (53:24):
Yeah, that had to have sucked. No one was getting paid. If you put
your card down, you were screwed.
>> Jonathan (53:28):
You were absolutely screwed.
>> RB (53:30):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (53:31):
Who died? Cash on them?
>> RB (53:32):
Mm
>> Christian Kuntz (53:32):
Nobody.
Yeah, exactly.
>> RB (53:34):
Nobody has that now.
>> Christian Kuntz (53:36):
Yeah.
>> RB (53:37):
So.
>> Jonathan (53:37):
Well, bud, I tell you, it's been a pleasure getting to
keep you on here. Chasing birdies, showing up
here. And I haven't formally met you yet, but I do
definitely look forward to meeting you because I've heard a lot about you from
pep and BK. All serious. All jokes aside,
I have. so we appreciate you coming on here on chasing
birdies.
And as always, we are going to end this segment with our
(53:58):
standard tap in segment. My man's going to ask you four
questions that demand your quick witted
response. And today's segment is brought to you by. Betting Artie
golf. Check them out online@betnardi.com. dot I
just got pep, and I just got some sick betting Artie putters from the
playing through boys shout out. Thank you.
>> RB (54:15):
Oh, you see these dirty. Dude, there's a
car on, on the ins, on the heel of the putter.
>> Jonathan (54:22):
It's hard to miss. It's hard to miss.
>> RB (54:24):
It's. It's pretty sweet. So we we. Maybe we get you dialed in
with one of those, from bet nerdy.
all right, favorite golf course in
pittsburgh.
>> Christian Kuntz (54:34):
Oh, favorite golf course in Pittsburgh.
Never would, really. M
I like it. I think it's forgiving.
It is to my strengths.
>> Jonathan (54:45):
Yeah.
>> Christian Kuntz (54:46):
Just. I like Neverwood.
>> Jonathan (54:47):
Good layout.
>> Christian Kuntz (54:48):
It's always in great shape.
>> RB (54:49):
Always. It's. It's plush.
>> Christian Kuntz (54:52):
Yeah, it's unbelievable.
>> RB (54:53):
All right, advice that you would give to a young
Christian.
>> Christian Kuntz (54:58):
Advice. I would get
work on your golf swing earlier,
so I'm not over the top.
>> RB (55:08):
That's good advice. All
right, favorite thing about playing for your hometown
Steelers?
>> Christian Kuntz (55:16):
I think just being like my
family, being able to either come to the game or
watch every game because it's being brought, like, my yaya gets to
watch the games. I feel like that's definitely the
coolest part.
>> RB (55:28):
That's awesome. All right, and last one. What are you
chasing?
>> Christian Kuntz (55:32):
I'm chasing Super bowl ring.
>> RB (55:34):
Let's go. That's the first one that anybody said on
that.
>> Christian Kuntz (55:37):
Yeah, yeah. I'm chasing birdies off the field, but
we're chasing suit. Damn. Super bowl ring.
>> RB (55:42):
That's the birdie on the field, though, boys. We're chasing that birdie.
>> Jonathan (55:45):
Let's get it.
>> Christian Kuntz (55:45):
That's it right there.
>> RB (55:47):
All, right, everybody tuning in. Make sure you go check him out on
instagram. Go check his podcast out, too, because it is
hilarious. And this is where we go.
>> Jonathan (56:00):
My man. thank you so much, dude.
Yeah, likewise.
>> RB (56:09):
Just a kid from Pittsburgh that enjoys an icy light
every once in a while. That was a great conversation with
Christian. you think about that playing
for your hometown team?
>> Jonathan (56:20):
Yeah. I mean, it's awesome. Yeah, we. And we heard that
story before with the guy like Neil Walker. I mean, playing for the hometown
team, but this is a little different story. And
hats off, man, he's clearly, been
in, you know, used a lot this year. I
mean, the first two games, that's all we did was kick field.
>> RB (56:36):
Yeah, yeah. His arm is probably getting tired,
his, knees.
>> Jonathan (56:41):
And he definitely sounds like, you know what I like about him?
He put that, like, I don't know what his
nationality is. Is it ukrainian or
Russian? I don't know what that's a
Russian.
>> RB (56:52):
Russian.
>> Jonathan (56:52):
Not a Russian. Not Russian. But it's something like that
because he goes, he, when he says his name, it's like,
Kuntz. Kuntz. Which, that's close to some
other things we try to refrain from. But,
cuz I was saying Kuntz. But he's like, Kuntz.
Yeah, I like it. It's a little flourish.
>> RB (57:09):
Good. So good.
>> Jonathan (57:10):
It's awesome, man. Thanks for coming on the show.
>> RB (57:12):
30 for the Steelers. I hope they keep it
rolling. for their sake and Christian's sake, I
mean, they're looking pretty, pretty good. the running game
looks good. Receivers, I mean, fields
looks great, as you've mentioned. I like that he's
thrown. He's slinging it downfield, dude. It's nice to see
middle of the.
>> Jonathan (57:29):
Field using all angles. Yeah, it's great.
>> RB (57:32):
This Austin receiver, huh? Huh?
>> Jonathan (57:33):
I'll tell you who was slinging it. Good. And I got to give a shout out to one of our prior
guests here on the show, Garrett Green from the West Virginia
Mountaineers. I will not discuss the pick game because I was in the
air during that, and I was totally pissed
off. However, the last game last weekend
against Kansas, my man took that game into his own
hands in the final five minutes, took the
boys down, scored two point conversion, then wins
(57:56):
it to Gallagher. Gigi, you demand
dog. And I was happy to see that, but it was fun to watch you play
that. But in the mountaineers, you
know, not only are they, am I a loyal mountaineers
fan, but the men's golf team this upcoming
weekend, Jason Birdies is going to be involved in

something right now and not even you know about this,
but people ask me about our swag. Can I
get a shirt? Can I get this? That another. And the reality is right now, we
just, we just aren't good at that. Okay. That's the
truth. But I do have some things I am working on
personally for the fall that will come in
handy for all you out there listening that we will release at
(01:00:09):
some point.
>> RB (01:00:10):
What is it?

that.
>> RB (01:00:20):
