Speaker 1 (00:07):
Welcome to Chasing Eden. I'm your host Carolyn Thompson. Today
we're diving into something that might be invisible but could
be profoundly impacting your health. Mold poisoning. Will break down
what it is, how it affects us, how to test
for it, and what we can do about it. Plus
(00:28):
we'll hear insights from pioneer biohacker Dave Asprey and explore
whether the anti fungal medication sporanox could be part of
the solution. So if you've ever felt chronic fatigue, brain fog,
unexplained inflammation, or just not yourself, this episode is for you.
Let's start by understanding what exactly mold poisoning is. Mold poisoning,
(00:55):
also referred to as mold toxicity or illness, occurs when
exposure to mold releases micotoxins, which are toxic byproducts of mold,
into your environment and your body. These can trigger symptoms
ranging from brain fog and fatigue to immune dysregulation and
(01:17):
mitochondrial dysfunction. Research points to micotoxins as neurotoxic, immunotoxic, and
inflammatory agents. Dave Asprey has described his own case. He'd
come down with almost early with almost every early onset
disease like arthritis, pre diabetes, systemic inflammation, which all trace
(01:41):
back to sleeping in a moldy bedroom. His brain scan
leader revealed quote unquote, total chaos inside. Despite outward appearance,
mold is everywhere hidden behind walls, under sinks, in basements
after flow UDDs, or in homes with leaks or high humidity.
(02:04):
Without visible signs, People often remain unaware of exposure for
months or even years. Dave Aspbury has highlighted how mold
affects millions and that many buildings harbor it silently. The
symptoms mirror other chronic conditions such as fatigue, brain fog,
mood swings, odd dreams, but often involve immune dysregulation or
(02:30):
neurological signs. You can do a simple mold culture test
by swabbing and growing on a petri dish. Visible growth
means mold is present. Consider micotoxin panels or tests from
specialized labs like my Mico lab or Genie to detect
(02:53):
internal burdens. Let's not skip testing. The difference between knowing
and guessing can be transformative, so let's talk practically about
things such as your environment, and your body first and foremost.
Get away from mold. Even sleeping in a contaminated space
(03:15):
will make symptoms return. Small infest infestations, like in your
bathroom or in other places in your home that you
don't even realize are there, they can be cleaned with
safer options like vinegar. Make sure that you avoid bleach
if you're sensitive, and wear protective gear. I would avoid
(03:36):
bleach altogether because all of the information that I have
researched about cleaning up mold always involves vinegar and says
to actually not to use bleach. That's not the chemical.
It's not chemically compatible with getting rid of mold. For
large infestations, consider professional remediation and discard anything deeply contaminated
(04:00):
like rugs, upholstered items, and wall materials. Now where the
body is concerned and mold, it's very important to set
up for yourself a binding protocol. So in other words,
what you want to do is you want to take
detox things that would help you to gather the mold
(04:24):
and pull it out of the body. David Aspbury recommends
binding toxins using strategies similar to military protocols. Items like
activated charcoal, bentonite clay and even something called cholestyramine when
prescribed activated charcoal you could actually find in capsule form
(04:47):
pretty easily at your local health food store, and the
same with food grade bentonite clay. Support your detox with glutathion,
which you can also purchase at your local health food store,
calcium D, glucorate, vitamin C. Make sure it's a natural form.
(05:09):
There is an unnatural form out there, alpha lipoic acid
and glycine or what we know as grass fed collagen.
Many people in the biohacking and mold community also use antioxidants,
essential minerals, probiotics, and targeted detox formulas. So let's hear
(05:34):
a little bit more about Dave's personal story and protocol.
Dave's journey how to do with chronic inflammation, insulin resistance,
and neurological issues which were all connected to sleeping in
a moldy bedroom. It wasn't until a brain scan showed
total chaos that he realized it was chemically induced mold
(05:56):
brain damage and not psychological issues. His protocol involved bind
the toxins as a first step, support mitochondria and detox
with glutathion, calcium, deglucrate, vitamin C, coffee with fulvic slash
humic acid, and a type of meditation gratitude exercise to
(06:19):
stabilize his mindset. He also recommends testing environmentally and biologically
and staying out of mold active spaces while healing. When
mold colonizes the body or the sinuses, or binding alone
doesn't relieve symptoms. Anti fungal medications like sporanox also known
(06:43):
as yitroconazol, may be considered under medical supervision if you
have frequent sinus infections. If you've got the green mucus
coming out of your nose, that's mold. So what is
bor an ox Well, it's an FDA approved anti fungal
(07:05):
also known as yitroconazol for systemic infections like aspergillosis, blastomycosis,
and onchomycosis. The way it works is it halts the
fungal growth by disrupting the cell membranes. It's very potent
and it's sometimes used off label for mold colonization. In
(07:28):
clinical mold detox protocols consider this. Common side effects are nausea,
digestive upset, headache, and serious risks like liver toxicity and
heart complications. In regard to the common side effects, some
may argue that the nausea and digestive upset, as well
(07:52):
as the headache are actually just detox side effects. I'm
not saying that's a fact. I'm saying that oftentimes when
we have side effects from detoxing, these particular side effects
are in that list. It is recommended where spornox is concerned,
(08:13):
that you would use it only under a medical guidance,
especially with liver monitoring. As Dave noted, do it with
another liver test a week after you take it. Typical
courses range from thirty to sixty days. Some protocols extend longer,
depending on severity and response. And I will say this,
(08:33):
I've watched Dave in an interview when he was talking
about spoornox. He had done so many different mold protocols.
He knew that he had mold, he had symptoms of it,
so he he's a biohacker, So he went on a
deep dive and he did all of these different protocols.
He eventually went and got tested and the doctor told
(08:54):
him you still have mold, and the only way you're
going to get rid of this mold is by going
on a spoor an ox protocol. This is the anti
fungal solution and it's guaranteed to work. So Dave went
on a protocol that he says was six months. So
(09:15):
obviously he likes to experiment a little bit with his
own body. Because he didn't say the doctor told him
you're clear, now you can go off spoor an ox.
He said, I felt like I didn't need it anymore.
So just a little tidbit on how Dave went about that.
This says typical courses range thirty to sixty days, and
(09:36):
some may extend longer depending on severity and response. So
just so you know. So now, if you're going to
be integrating the protocol, there's a step by step blueprint
you could discuss with a qualified provider. Test both your
environment and your body. Remove the mold closure offenders, so
(10:02):
either clean up or relocate if you can do that.
Start binding the toxins with the charcoal the clays while
also supporting your detox. Support mitochondria with antioxidants, and one
of the antioxidants listed was glutithion, which is excellent foundational
(10:24):
nutrients and mental practices. And you just want to relax.
You don't want to be stressed out. That will help
you heal. Consider anti fungal protocols like sporinox if symptoms
persist after step three. According to Dave, his doctor told
him the only way to remove mold would be with
the sporinox to be guaranteed, because he told him even
(10:47):
after all of his detoxing and protocols, he still had
some in his body. You also want to make sure
that it's monitored closely when you're going through this process,
especially like Dave said, the liver markers, and keep pay
attention or keep a journal of your symptoms and the
way your body is responding to the protocol that you're
(11:09):
doing for it. Listen to your body. Someone with brain fog, anxiety,
sleep disturbances improves after binding in detox. According to most
people who have been through this journey, a chronic sinus
case may require spor anox to fully clear the fungal colonization.
So if you've had chronic sinus infections for a long time,
(11:33):
you are going to need to look into this spoor
anox as a remedy because chances are you may not
be able to clear this up any other way. So,
one member of the Toxic Mold Exposure Forum said to
rinse or sinuses two to three times a day. Dave
(11:54):
Asprey has a sinus rinse he said was highly effective
that helped him through his sinus detox. So here's some
questions and answers. One is mold poisoning real? The answer
is yes, Scientific evidence and thousands of cases attest to it.
(12:16):
Micocut toxins impact neurological and immune systems. This is another
one about bleach versus vinegar cleaning. I already talked about
that vinegar is known to be safer and more effective
and bleach is not recommended. Children can absolutely get mold poisoning,
(12:37):
so that's something that could be easily overlooked and diagnosed
to something else. When should you see a doctor, Well,
if symptoms are chronic, progressive, or you suspect mold colonization
or systemic illness, consult a knowledgeable physician. In my opinion,
I would be contacting a nature path or perhaps a
(13:00):
functional medicine doctor, especially before starting medications like sport knox.
I would check with them first, and, like Asprey said,
look into having your liver tested before and after you start,
so to wrap it up. If you're wondering, do I
have mold poisoning? No, you're not alone, and there are
(13:21):
steps you can take. Test your environment, bind toxins, support
your detox system, move out of moldi spaces, and consider
medical options like spoor an ox when needed and safe.
